Abstract

Using data samples of 102 million Upsilon(1S) events and 158 million Upsilon(2S) events collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider, we search for [udsccbar] pentaquark states decaying to Jpsi Lambda. Using the first observations of Upsilon(1S, 2S) inclusive decays to Jpsi Lambda, we find evidence of the P_ccbars(4459)0 state with a significance of 3.3 standard deviations, including statistical and systematic uncertainties. We measure the mass and width of the Pccbars(4459)0 to be (4471.7 +- 4.8 +- 0.6) MeV/c2 and (21.9 +- 13.1 +- 2.7) MeV, respectively. The branching fractions for P_ccbars(4459)0 production are measured to be B[Upsilon(1S) -> P_ccbars(4459)0/ Pbar_ccbars(4459)0 + anything] = (3.5 +- 2.0 +- 0.2)*10-6 and B[Upsilin(2S) -> P_ccbars(4459)0/ Pbar_ccbars(4459)0 +anything] = (2.9 +- 1.7 +- 0.4)*10-6. The inclusive branching fractions of Upsilon(1S, 2S) -> Jpsi Lambda/Lambdabar are measured to be B[Upsilin(1S) -> Jpsi Lambda/Lambdabar + anything] = (36.9 +- 5.3 +- 2.4)*10-6 and B[Upsilon(2S) -> Jpsi Lambda/Lambdabar + anything] = (22.3 +- 5.7 +- 3.1)*10-6. We measure the visible cross section $\sigma(e^+e^- \to J/psi \Lambda/\bar\Lambda$ + anything) = (90 +- 14 +- 6) fb for the continuum production at $\sqrt{s} = 10.52$ GeV. In all cases, the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic., Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures

Abstract

We present a measurement of the branching fraction of $B^+\to\tau^+\nu_\tau$ decays using $(387\pm6)\times 10^6$ $\Upsilon(4S)$ collected between 2019 and 2022 with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. We reconstruct the accompanying $B^-$ meson using the hadronic tagging method, while $B^+\to\tau^+\nu_\tau$ candidates are identified in the recoil. We find evidence for $B^+\to\tau^+\nu_\tau$ decays at 3.0 standard deviations, including systematic uncertainties. The measured branching fraction is $\mathcal{B}(B^+\to\tau^+\nu_\tau) = [1.24 \pm 0.41 (\text{stat.}) \pm 0.19 (\text{syst.})] \times 10^{-4}$.

Abstract

We report a search for lepton-flavor-violating decays $\tau^- \to \ell^- \phi$ ($\ell^- =e^-,\mu^-$) at the Belle II experiment, using a sample of electron-positron data produced at the SuperKEKB collider in 2019-2021 and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 190 fb$^{-1}$. We use a new untagged selection for $e^+e^- \to \tau^+\tau^-$ events, where the signal $\tau$ is searched for as a neutrinoless final state of a single charged lepton and a $\phi$ meson and the other $\tau$ is not reconstructed in any specific decay mode, in contrast to previous measurements by the BaBar and Belle experiments. We find no evidence for $\tau^- \to \ell^- \phi$ decays and obtain upper limits on the branching fractions at 90% confidence level of 23 $\times 10^{-8}$ and 9.7$\times 10^{-8}$ for $\tau^- \rightarrow e^-\phi$ and $\tau^- \rightarrow \mu^-\phi$, respectively

Abstract

We present a measurement of the branching fractions of four $B^{0,-}\to D^{(*)+,0} K^- K^{0}_S$ decay modes. The measurement is based on data from SuperKEKB electron-positron collisions at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance collected with the Belle II detector and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of ${362~\text{fb}^{-1}}$. The event yields are extracted from fits to the distributions of the difference between expected and observed $B$ meson energy to separate signal and background, and are efficiency-corrected as a function of the invariant mass of the $K^-K_S^0$ system. We find the branching fractions to be: \[ \text{B}(B^-\to D^0K^-K_S^0)=(1.89\pm 0.16\pm 0.10)\times 10^{-4}, \] \[ \text{B}(\overline B{}^0\to D^+K^-K_S^0)=(0.85\pm 0.11\pm 0.05)\times 10^{-4},\] \[ \text{B}(B^-\to D^{*0}K^-K_S^0)=(1.57\pm 0.27\pm 0.12)\times 10^{-4}, \] \[ \text{B}(\overline B{}^0\to D^{*+}K^-K_S^0)=(0.96\pm 0.18\pm 0.06)\times 10^{-4},\] where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. These results include the first observation of $\overline B{}^0\to D^+K^-K_S^0$, $B^-\to D^{*0}K^-K_S^0$, and $\overline B{}^0\to D^{*+}K^-K_S^0$ decays and a significant improvement in the precision of $\text{B}(B^-\to D^0K^-K_S^0)$ compared to previous measurements.

Abstract

We present results on the semileptonic decays $B^0 \to \rho^- \ell^+ \nu_\ell$ and $B^+ \to \rho^0 \ell^+ \nu_\ell$ in a sample corresponding to 189.9/fb of Belle II data at the SuperKEKB $e^- e^+$ collider. Signal decays are identified using full reconstruction of the recoil $B$ meson in hadronic final states. We determine the total branching fractions via fits to the distributions of the square of the "missing" mass in the event and the dipion mass in the signal candidate and find ${\mathcal{B}(B^0\to\rho^-\ell^+ \nu_\ell) = (4.12 \pm 0.64(\mathrm{stat}) \pm 1.16(\mathrm{syst})) \times 10^{-4}}$ and ${\mathcal{B}({B^+\to\rho^0\ell^+\nu_\ell}) = (1.77 \pm 0.23 (\mathrm{stat}) \pm 0.36 (\mathrm{syst})) \times 10^{-4}}$ where the dominant systematic uncertainty comes from modeling the nonresonant $B\to (\pi\pi)\ell^+\nu_\ell$ contribution.

Abstract

At the LaAlO$_3$-SrTiO$_3$ interface, electronic phase transitions can be triggered by modulation of the charge carrier density, making this system an excellent prospect for the realization of versatile electronic devices. Here, we report repeatable transistor operation in locally gated LaAlO$_3$-SrTiO$_3$ field-effect devices of which the LaAlO$_3$ dielectric is only four unit cells thin, the critical thickness for conduction at this interface. This extremely thin dielectric allows a very efficient charge modulation of ${\sim}3.2\times10^{13}$ cm$^{-2}$ within a gate-voltage window of $\pm1$ V, as extracted from capacitance-voltage measurements. These also reveal a large stray capacitance between gate and source, presenting a complication for nanoscale device operation. Despite the small LaAlO$_3$ thickness, we observe a negligible gate leakage current, which we ascribe to the extension of the conducting states into the SrTiO$_3$ substrate., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures. We examined the psychometric properties of the 16-item Concise Health Risk Tracking Scale – Self Report (CHRT-SR16) to measure suicidality among adults with moderate-to-severe methamphetamine use disorder.Methods: Participants (n = 403) with moderate-to-severe methamphetamine use disorder completed the CHRT-SR16 as part of a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pharmacotherapy trial. The CHRT-SR16 factor structure was assessed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Internal consistency was estimated with coefficients alpha (α) and omega (ω), test-retest reliability with intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and standard error of measurement, and convergent validity using Spearman’s ρ rank order correlation coefficient test between CHRT-SR16 factors and the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9). The analyses utilized baseline and week 1 data (for test-retest reliability only).Results: CFA revealed a seven-factor model of Pessimism, Helplessness, Social Support, Despair, Impulsivity, Irritability, and Suicidal Thoughts as the best-fitting model. Abstract

The magnetic field integrals connected with the momentum resolution are calculated for the ATLAS inner tracking volume in a range of pseudorapidity $|\eta| < 3$ for the cases of `ideal' and inhomogeneous solenoid fields. In the latest case, the magnetic field map is extracted from POISSON calculations with help of an interface program POISGT. The tracking volume is restricted by a length of 6.8 m and by a radius of 1.06 m. The solenoid coil with an active length of 6.3 m and with an inner radius of 1.23 m produces the magnetic flux density of 2 T in the center of the coil., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures

12. Characterisation of the electronic ground states of BaH+ and BaD+ by high-resolution photoelectron spectroscopy.

Abstract

The rovibrational energy-level structures of BaH+ and BaD+ in their X+ 1Σ+ electronic ground state have been characterised by pulsed-field-ionisation zero-kinetic-energy photoelectron spectroscopy following resonance-enhanced (1 + 1′) two-photon excitation from the BaH/BaD X 2Σ+ ground state via the E 2Π1/2 (v′ = 0, 1) intermediate levels. A full set of rovibrational molecular constants for the BaH+ and BaD+ ground states has been derived for the first time and the adiabatic ionisation energies of BaH and BaD were determined to be 38 679.96(20) and 38 652.69(20) cm−1, respectively. Photoelectron spectra recorded via E-state levels of selected rovibronic parity exhibit pronounced intensity alternations of transitions to rotational states of the cations with even- and odd-valued rotational-angular-momentum quantum number N+. This observation is interpreted by invoking dominant contributions of even- photoelectron partial waves in the photoionisation of the E 2Π1/2 (v′ = 0, 1) intermediate states of barium hydride. The lowest pure-rotational transition frequencies of BaH+ and BaD+ are derived from the photoelectron spectra which may help the detection of BaH+ in the microwave and millimetre-wave ranges. 19. Analysis of short-circuit transients in the LHC main dipole circuit

Abstract

After the occurrence and detection of a short circuit to ground in the LHC main dipole circuit, a fast power abort is triggered and the current in the circuit starts decaying semi-exponentially from a maximum value of 11.85 kA to zero, with a time constant of 103 s. If a short to ground occurs, the current flows through the fuse that is present in the grounding subcircuit. Depending on the value of the thermal load, the fuse first enters a pre-arcing region where it starts intermittently blowing up, until the blow-up threshold is reached, after which it definitively blows up. A simulation scheme utilising a common interface between PSpice and Matlab is proposed in order to simulate the blow-up behaviour of the fuse and hence increase the accuracy of the circuit model for short circuits to ground. A parametric analysis of the short circuit to ground parameters is performed and a better understanding of the behaviour of the circuit under different conditions is obtained. The worst-case values of the voltage to ground in the LHC main dipole circuit are identified for both the case where the intermittent behaviour of the fuse is included in the model as well as for the case where the fuse is not modelled and a comparison between the two is given.

25. Characterisation of the ground X+ 2ΠΩ and first excited A+ 2Σ+ electronic states of MgO+ by high-resolution photoelectron spectroscopy.

Abstract

Despite the importance of MgO+ for understanding the electronic structure and chemical bonds in alkaline-earth metal oxides and its potential astrophysical relevance, hardly any spectroscopic information is available on this molecular cation. We report on a high-resolution photoelectron spectroscopic study of MgO using a resonant (1 + 1′) two-photon excitation scheme in combination with PFI-ZEKE photoelectron spectroscopy. By carrying out the resonant excitation via selected rotational levels of several intermediate states of different electronic configurations, total electronic spins, and internuclear distances, a broad range of vibrational levels of the X+ 2ΠΩ (Ω = 3/2, 1/2) ground and A+ 2Σ+ first excited states of MgO+ were observed for the first time. The new data provide a full characterisation of the rovibronic level structure of MgO+ up to 2 eV (16 000 cm−1) of internal energy. A full set of vibrational, rotational and spin–orbit-coupling molecular constants were extracted for these two electronic states. The adiabatic ionisation energy and the singlet–triplet interval of 24Mg16O were determined to be 64 577.65(20) cm−1 and 2492.4(3) cm−1, respectively. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

A small drift chamber was read out by means of a MediPix2 readout chip as direct anode. A Micromegas foil was placed 50 $\mu$m above the chip, and electron multiplication occurred in the gap. With a He/Isobutane 80/20 mixture, gas multiplication factors up to tens of thousands were achieved, resulting in an efficiency for detecting single electrons of better than 90% . We recorded many frames containing 2D images with tracks from cosmic muons. Eliciting neutralizing antibodies is thought to be a key activity of a vaccine against human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). However, a number of studies have suggested that in addition to neutralization, interaction of IgG with Fc gamma receptors (FcγR) may play an important role in antibody-mediated protection. We have previously obtained evidence that the protective activity of the broadly neutralizing human IgG1 anti-HIV monoclonal antibody (MAb) b12 in macaques is diminished in the absence of FcγR binding capacity. To investigate antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) as a contributor to FcγR-associated protection, we developed a nonfucosylated variant of b12 (NFb12). We showed that, compared to fully fucosylated (referred to as wild-type in the text) b12, NFb12 had higher affinity for human and rhesus macaque FcγRIIIa and was more efficient in inhibiting viral replication and more effective in killing HIV-infected cells in an ADCC assay. Despite these more potent in vitro antiviral activities, NFb12 did not enhance protection in vivo against repeated low-dose vaginal challenge in the simian-human immunodeficiency virus (SHIV)/macaque model compared to wild-type b12. No difference in protection, viral load, or infection susceptibility was observed between animals given NFb12 and those given fully fucosylated b12, indicating that FcγR-mediated activities distinct from FcγRIIIa-mediated ADCC may be important in the observed protection against SHIV challenge.

Abstract

This paper presents the main results of COST Action PEARL PV, aiming at finding connections between the observed performance of monitored PV systems and degradation causes and failure modes according to literature with a focus on the most dominant technology among installed PV modules, namely silicon PV. It is found that there there exists a great potential for performance improvements, though in practice it is difficult to identify exact causes for failure and underperformance.
