Layered 2D halide perovskites are chemically synthesized realizations of quantum well stacks with giant exciton oscillator strengths, tunable emission spectra and very large exciton binding energies. While these features render 2D halide perovskites a promising platform for room-temperature polaritonics, bosonic condensation and polariton lasing in 2D perovskites have so far remained elusive at ambient conditions. Here, we demonstrate room-temperature cavity exciton-polariton condensation in mechanically exfoliated crystals of the 2D Ruddlesden-Popper iodide perovskite $(BA)_{2}(MA)_{2}Pb_{3}I_{10}$ in an open optical microcavity. We observe a polariton condensation threshold of $P_{th}=6.76 fJ$ per pulse and detect a strong non-linear response. Interferometric measurements confirm the spontaneous emergence of spatial coherence across the condensate with an associated first-order autocorrelation reaching $g^{(1)}\approx 0.6$. Our results lay the foundation for a new class of room-temperature polariton lasers based on 2D halide perovskites with great potential for hetero-integration with other van-der-Waals materials and combination with photonic crystals or waveguides., Comment: 21 pages, 8 figures

Quantum non-Gaussian states of light have fundamental properties that are essential for a multitude of applications in quantum technology. However, many of these features are difficult to detect using standard criteria due to optical losses and detector inefficiency. As the statistics of light are unknown, the loss correction on the data is unreliable, despite the fact that the losses can be precisely measured. To address this issue, we employ a loss-mitigated verification technique utilising quantum non-Gaussian witnesses, which incorporate the known optical losses and detector inefficiency into their derivation. This approach allows us to address the considerable challenge of experimentally demonstrating unheralded quantum non-Gaussian states of single photons and photon pairs., Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures and supplemental material (2 pages)

MoTe$_2$ monolayers and bilayers are unique within the family of van-der-Waals materials since they pave the way towards atomically thin infrared light-matter quantum interfaces, potentially reaching the important telecommunication windows. Here, we report emergent exciton-polaritons based on MoTe$_2$ monolayer and bilayer in a low-temperature open micro-cavity in a joint experiment-theory study. Our experiments clearly evidence both the enhanced oscillator strength and enhanced luminescence of MoTe$_2$ bilayers, signified by a 38 \% increase of the Rabi-splitting and a strongly enhanced relaxation of polaritons to low-energy states. The latter is distinct from polaritons in MoTe$_2$ monolayers, which feature a bottleneck-like relaxation inhibition. Both the polaritonic spin-valley locking in monolayers and the spin-layer locking in bilayers are revealed via the Zeeman effect, which we map and control via the light-matter composition of our polaritonic resonances., Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures

Waveguide quantum electrodynamics, the study of atomic systems interacting with propagating electromagnetic fields, is a powerful platform for understanding the complex interplay between light and matter. Qubit control is an indispensable tool in this field, and most experiments have so far focused on narrowband electromagnetic waves that interact with qubits at specific frequencies. This interaction, however, changes significantly with fast, broadband pulses, as waveguide properties like dispersion affect the pulse evolution and its impact on the qubit. Here, we use dispersion to achieve spatial addressing of superconducting qubits separated by a sub-wavelength distance within a microwave waveguide. This novel approach relies on a self-focusing effect to create a position-dependent interaction between the pulse and the qubits. This experiment emphasizes the importance of dispersion in the design and analysis of quantum experiments, and offers new avenues for the rapid control of quantum states.

Topological photonics is an emergent research discipline which interlinks fundamental aspects of photonics, information processing and solid-state physics. Exciton-polaritons are a specifically interesting platform to study topological phenomena, since the coherent light matter coupling enables new degrees of freedom such as tunable non-linearities, chiralities and dissipation. Room-temperature operation of such exciton-polaritons relies on materials comprising both, large exciton binding energies and oscillator strength. We harness widely spectrally tunable, room temperature exciton-polaritons based on a WS2 monolayer in an open optical cavity to realize a polariton potential landscape which emulates the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) Hamiltonian. It comprises a domain boundary hosting a topological, exponentially localized mode at the interface between two lattices characterized by different Zak-phases which features a spectral tunability over a range as large as 80 meV. Moreover, we utilize the unique tilt-tunability of our implementation, to transform the SSH-lattice into a Stark-ladder. This transformation couples the topologically protected defect mode to propagating lattice modes, and effectively changes the symmetry of the system. Furthermore, it allows us to directly quantify the Zak-phase difference $\Delta_{Zak}=(1.13\pm 0.11)\pi$ between the two topological phases. Our work comprises an important step towards in-situ tuning topological lattices to control and guide light on non-linear chips.

As quantum information technologies advance they face challenges in scaling and connectivity. In particular, two necessities remain independent of the technological implementation: the need for connectivity between distant qubits and the need for efficient generation of entanglement. Perfect State Transfer is a technique which realises the time optimal transfer of a quantum state between distant nodes of qubit lattices with only nearest-neighbour couplings, hence providing an important tool to improve device connectivity. Crucially, the transfer protocol results in effective parity-dependent non-local interactions, extending its utility to the efficient generation of entangled states. Here, we experimentally demonstrate Perfect State Transfer and the generation of multi-qubit entanglement on a chain of superconducting qubits. The system consists of six fixed-frequency transmon qubits connected by tunable couplers, where the couplings are controlled via parametric drives. By simultaneously activating all couplings and engineering their individual amplitudes and frequencies, we implement Perfect State Transfer on up to six qubits and observe the respective single-excitation dynamics for different initial states. We then apply the protocol in the presence of multiple excitations and verify its parity-dependent property, where the number of excitations within the chain controls the phase of the transferred state. Finally, we utilise this property to prepare a multi-qubit Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state using only a single transfer operation, demonstrating its application for efficient entanglement generation., Comment: 16 pages, 10 figures

We demonstrate evidence of correlated magnetism for exciton-polaritons in a MoSe$_{2}$/WS$_{2}$ moir\'e heterostructure with near-parallel alignment subject to electron doping. In our experiments, interactions between electrons and moir\'e excitons are controlled electrostatically by field-effect doping, and the polaritonic regime of strong light-matter coupling is established in an open cryogenic microcavity. Remarkably, at filling fractions around one electron per moir\'e cell, we observe drastic and nonlinear enhancement of the effective polariton Land\'e factor as a hallmark of correlated magnetism, which is cavity-controlled via resonance tuning of light and matter polariton constituents. Our work establishes moir\'e van der Waals heterostructures as an outstanding platform for studies of correlated phenomena in the presence of strong light-matter coupling and many-body phases of lattice-ordered excitons, charges and spins.

According to the principles of quantum mechanics the Hamiltonian describing a closed system's energies must be Hermitian. This leads to an avoided crossing on resonance, as coupling between states causes the energy levels to repel. This concept lies at the heart of exciton-polariton physics, where coherent exciton-photon interaction causes polariton branches to repel in momentum dispersion. However, non-Hermitian physics predicts an opposite effect: level attraction, which occurs when significant energy dissipation is present in the system. Here, we show a manifestation of dissipative coupling in a high-quality AlGaAs-based polariton microcavity, where two polariton branches attract, resulting in an anomalous, inverted dispersion of the lower branch in momentum dispersion. We observe the evolution of the level attraction with exciton-photon detuning, leading to changes in anomalous dispersion shape within a single sample. The dissipative coupling is explained by the interaction with an indirect exciton, acting as a highly dissipative channel in our system, and the observed dispersions are well captured within a phenomenological model. Our results present a new mechanism of dissipative coupling in light-matter systems and offer a tunable and well-controlled AlGaAs-based platform for engineering the non-Hermitian and negative mass effects in polariton systems.

LiSrAlF$_6$ crystals doped with $^{229}$Th are used in a laser-based search for the nuclear isomeric transition. Two spectroscopic features near the nuclear transition energy are observed. The first is a broad excitation feature that produces red-shifted fluorescence that decays with a timescale of a few seconds. The second is a narrow, laser-linewidth-limited spectral feature at $148.38219(4)_{\textrm{stat}}(20)_{\textrm{sys}}$ nm ($2020407.3(5)_{\textrm{stat}}(30)_{\textrm{sys}}$ GHz) that decays with a lifetime of $568(13)_{\textrm{stat}}(20)_{\textrm{sys}}$ s. This feature is assigned to the excitation of the $^{229}$Th nuclear isomeric state, whose energy is found to be $8.355733(2)_{\textrm{stat}}(10)_{\textrm{sys}}$ eV in $^{229}$Th:\thor:LiSrAlF$_6$., Comment: Submitted to Physical Review Letters on March 25, 2024

We present an experimental study on optical properties and dynamics of direct and spatially and momentum indirect excitons in AlGaAs/AlAs quantum wells near the crossover between $\varGamma$- and $X$-valley confined electron states. The time-integrated photoluminescence experiment at $T=$4.8 K revealed three simultaneously observed optical transitions resulting from (a) a direct exciton recombination, involving an electron and a hole states both located in the $\varGamma$-valley in the quantum well layer, and (b) two spatially and momentum indirect excitons, comprising of the confined electron states in the $X$-valley in the AlAs barrier with different effective masses and quantum well holes in the $\varGamma$-valley. The measured spatial extent, density dependence and temperature dependence of the structure photoluminescence revealed characteristics necessary to pinpoint the states' nature and provided their characterization crucial in future device design. Temporal dynamics observed in the time-resolved photoluminescence measurement showed the complexity of the capture and recombination dynamics, largely affected by nonradiative processes, what is additionally critical in the system's use. This solid state platform hosting both direct and indirect excitons in a highly tunable monolithic system can benefit and underline the operation principles of novel electronic and photonic devices.

Bosonic condensation and lasing of exciton-polaritons in microcavities is a fascinating solid-state phenomenon. It provides a versatile platform to study out-of-equilibrium many-body physics and has recently appeared at the forefront of quantum technologies. Here, we study the photon statistics via the second-order temporal correlation function of polariton lasing emerging from an optical microcavity integrated with an atomically thin MoSe2 crystal. Furthermore, we investigate the macroscopic polariton phase transition for varying excitation powers and temperatures. The lower-polariton exhibits photon bunching below the threshold, implying a dominant thermal distribution of the emission, while above the threshold, the second-order correlation transits towards unity, which evidences the formation of a coherent state. With the upcoming multitude of commercial and public applications envisioned in the mobile 6G radio landscape using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) plays a key role to enable the detection and localization of passive objects with radar sensing, while optimizing the utilization of scarce resources. To explore the potential of future ISAC architectures with UAVs as mobile nodes in distributed multi-sensor networks, the system's fundamental capability to detect static and dynamic objects that reveal themselves by their bi-static back-scattering needs to be evaluated. Therefore, this paper addresses simulation- and measurement based data acquisition methods to gather knowledge about the bistatic reflectivity of single objects including their Micro-Doppler signature for object identification as well as the influence of multipath propagation in different environments on the localization accuracy and radar tracking performance. We show exemplary results from simulation models, bi-static reflectivity measurements in laboratory environment and real-flight channel sounding experiments in selected scenarios showcasing the potential of synthetic and measured data sets for development and evaluation of ISAC algorithms. Ultracold atomic gases hold unique promise for space science by capitalizing on quantum advantages and extended freefall, afforded in a microgravity environment, to enable next-generation precision sensors. Atom interferometers are a class of quantum sensors which can use freely falling gases of atoms cooled to sub-photon-recoil temperatures to provide unprecedented sensitivities to accelerations, rotations, and gravitational forces, and are currently being developed for space-based applications in gravitational, earth, and planetary sciences, as well as to search for subtle forces that could signify physics beyond General Relativity and the Standard Model. NASA's Cold Atom Lab (CAL) operates onboard the International Space Station as a multi-user facility for studies of ultracold atoms and to mature quantum technologies, including atom interferometry, in persistent microgravity. In this paper, we report on path-finding experiments utilizing ultracold $^{87}$Rb atoms in the CAL atom interferometer, which was enabled by an on-orbit upgrade of the CAL science module: A three-pulse Mach-Zehnder interferometer was studied to understand limitations from the influence of ISS vibrations. Additionally, Ramsey shear-wave interferometry was used to manifest interference patterns in a single run that were observable for over 150 ms free-expansion time. Finally, the CAL atom interferometer was used to remotely measure the photon recoil from the atom interferometer laser as a demonstration of the first quantum sensor using matter-wave interferometry in space., Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures

The upcoming 3GPP global mobile communication standard 6G strives to push the technological limits of radio frequency (RF) communication even further than its predecessors: Sum data rates beyond 100 Gbit/s, RF bandwidths above 1 GHz per link, and sub-millisecond latency necessitate very high performance development tools. We propose a new SDR firmware and software architecture designed explicitly to meet these challenging requirements. It relies on Ethernet and commercial off-the-shelf network and server components to maximize flexibility and to reduce costs. We analyze state-of-the-art solutions (USRP X440 and other RFSoC-based systems), derive architectural design goals, explain resulting design decision in detail, and exemplify our architecture's implementation on the XCZU48DR RFSoC. Finally, we validate its performance via measurements and outline how the architecture surpasses the state-of-the-art with respect to sustained RF recording, while maintaining high Ethernet bandwidth efficiency. Building a 6G integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) example, we demonstrate its real-time and rapid application development capabilities.

With a seminal work of Raghu and Haldane in 2008, concepts of topology have been successfully introduced in a wide range of optical systems, emulating specific lattice Hamiltonians. Certainly, one of the most promising routes to an application of topological photonics in an actual device are topological lasers, where efficient and highly coherent lasing from a topologically non-trivial mode is achieved. While some attempts have been made to excite such structures electrically, the majority of published fundamental experiments use a form of laser excitation. In this paper, we use a lattice of vertical resonator polariton micropillars to form an exponentially localized topological Su-Schrieffer-Heeger defect. Upon electrical excitation of the p-i-n doped structure, the system unequivocally shows polariton lasing from the topological defect using a carefully placed gold contact. Despite the presence of doping and electrical contacts, the polariton band structure clearly preserves its topological properties. At high excitation power the Mott density is exceeded leading to highly efficient lasing in the weak coupling regime. Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) comprises detection and analysis of non-cooperative targets by exploiting the resources of the mobile radio system. In this context, micro-Doppler is of great importance for target classification, in order to distinguish objects with local movements. For developing algorithms for target classification, it is necessary to have a large amount of target signatures. Aiming to generate these data, this paper proposes a mathematical model for the micro-Doppler of drone rotating propellers, and validate the proposed model by comparing it to measured micro-Doppler. The integration of wireless communication and radar sensing is gaining the interest of researchers from wireless communication and radar societies. Sensing in Integrated Communication and Sensing (ICAS) systems differs from the traditional radar system in the configuration of transmitter-target-receiver, the operating frequency bands, and the transmitting waveform. It is necessary to understand how target electromagnetic signatures behave in this context. Therefore, this paper presents measurements and analysis of two important target signatures, reflectivity and micro-Doppler, for sensing in ICAS. Organic molecule exciton-polaritons in photonic lattices are a versatile platform to emulate unconventional phases of matter at ambient conditions, including protected interface modes in topological insulators. Here, we investigate bosonic condensation in the most prototypical higher-order topological lattice: a 2D-version of the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model, supporting both 0D and 1D topological modes. We study fluorescent protein-filled, structured microcavities defining a staggered photonic trapping potential and observe the resulting first- and higher-order topologically protected modes via spatially resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy. We account for the spatial mode patterns by tight-binding calculations and theoretically characterize the topological invariants of the lattice. Under strong optical pumping, we observe bosonic condensation into the topological modes. Via interferometric measurements, we map the spatial first-order coherence in the protected 1D modes extending over 10 microns. Our findings pave the way towards organic on-chip polaritonics using higher-order topology as a tool for the generation of robustly confined polaritonic lasing states., Comment: 23 pages, 7 figures

Dark excitons in transition metal dichalcogenides (TMD) have been so far neglected in the context of polariton physics due to their lack of oscillator strength. However, in tungsten-based TMDs, dark excitons are known to be the energetically lowest states and could thus provide important scattering partners for polaritons. In this joint theory-experiment work, we investigate the impact of the full exciton energy landscape on polariton absorption and reflectance. By changing the cavity detuning, we vary the polariton energy relative to the unaffected dark excitons in such a way that we open or close specific phonon-driven scattering channels. We demonstrate both in theory and experiment that this controlled switching of scattering channels manifests in characteristic sharp changes in optical spectra of polaritons. These spectral features can be exploited to extract the position of dark excitons. Our work suggests new possibilities for exploiting polaritons for fingerprinting nanomaterials via their unique exciton landscape.

Efficient scattering into the exciton polariton ground state is a key prerequisite for generating Bose-Einstein condensates and low-threshold polariton lasing. However, this can be challenging to achieve at low densities due to the polariton bottleneck effect that impedes phonon-driven scattering into low-momentum polariton states. The rich exciton landscape of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) provides potential intervalley scattering pathways via dark excitons to rapidly populate these polaritons. Here, we present a microscopic study exploring the time- and momentum-resolved relaxation of exciton polaritons supported by a \ce{MoSe2} monolayer integrated within a Fabry-Perot cavity. By exploiting phonon-assisted transitions between momentum-dark excitons and the lower polariton branch, we demonstrate that it is possible to circumvent the bottleneck region and efficiently populate the polariton ground state. Furthermore, this intervalley pathway is predicted to give rise to, yet unobserved, angle-resolved phonon sidebands in low-temperature photoluminescence spectra that are associated with momentum-dark excitons. This represents a distinctive experimental signature for efficient phonon-mediated polariton-dark-exciton interactions.

To control and measure the state of a quantum system it must necessarily be coupled to external degrees of freedom. This inevitably leads to spontaneous emission via the Purcell effect, photon-induced dephasing from measurement back-action, and errors caused by unwanted interactions with nearby quantum systems. To tackle this fundamental challenge, we make use of the design flexibility of superconducting quantum circuits to form a multi-mode element -- an artificial molecule -- with symmetry-protected modes. The proposed circuit consists of three superconducting islands coupled to a central island via Josephson junctions. It exhibits two essential non-linear modes, one of which is flux-insensitive and used as the protected qubit mode. The second mode is flux-tunable and serves via a cross-Kerr type coupling as a mediator to control the dispersive coupling of the qubit mode to the readout resonator. We demonstrate the Purcell protection of the qubit mode by measuring relaxation times that are independent of the mediated dispersive coupling. We show that the coherence of the qubit is not limited by photon-induced dephasing when detuning the mediator mode from the readout resonator and thereby reducing the dispersive coupling. The resulting highly protected qubit with tunable interactions may serve as a basic building block of a scalable quantum processor architecture, in which qubit decoherence is strongly suppressed.

Two-photon interference is an indispensable resource in quantum photonics, but it is not straightforward to achieve. The cascaded generation of photon pairs contains intrinsic temporal correlations that negatively affect the ability of such sources to perform two-photon interference, thus hindering applications. We report on how such correlation interplays with decoherence and temporal postselection, and under which conditions temporal postselection could improve two-photon interference visibility. Our study identifies crucial parameters and points the way to a source with optimal performance.

Entangled photon pairs are an important resource for quantum cryptography schemes that go beyond point-to-point communication. Semiconductor Bragg-reflection waveguides are a promising photon-pair source due to mature fabrication, integrability, large transparency window in the telecom wavelength range, integration capabilities for electro-optical devices as well as a high second-order nonlinear coefficient. To increase performance we improved the fabrication of Bragg-reflection waveguides by employing fixed-beam-moving-stage optical lithography, low pressure and low chlorine concentration etching, and resist reflow. The reduction in sidewall roughness yields a low optical loss coefficient for telecom wavelength light of alpha_reflow = 0.08(6)mm^(-1). Owing to the decreased losses, we achieved a photon pair production rate of 8800(300)(mW*s*mm)^(-1) which is 15-fold higher than in previous samples.

Mass-deployable implementations for quantum communication require compact, reliable, and low-cost hardware solutions for photon generation, control and analysis. We present a fiber-pigtailed hybrid photonic circuit comprising nonlinear waveguides for photon-pair generation and a polymer interposer reaching 68dB of pump suppression and photon separation with >25dB polarization extinction ratio. The optical stability of the hybrid assembly enhances the quality of the entanglement, and the efficient background suppression and photon routing further reduce accidental coincidences. We thus achieve a 96(-8,+3)% concurrence and a 96(-5,+2)% fidelity to a Bell state. The generated telecom-wavelength, time-bin entangled photon pairs are ideally suited for distributing Bell pairs over fiber networks with low dispersion.

In recent years, much research has been undertaken to investigate the suitability of two-dimensional materials to act as single-photon sources with high optical and quantum optical quality. Amongst them, transition-metal dichalcogenides, especially WSe$_{2}$, have been one of the subjects of intensive studies. Yet, their single-photon purity and photon indistinguishability, remain the most significant challenges to compete with mature semiconducting systems such as self-assembled InGaAs quantum dots. In this work, we explore the emission properties of quantum emitters in a WSe$_{2}$ monolayer which are induced by metallic nanoparticles. Under quasi-resonant pulsed excitation, we verify clean single-photon emission with a $g^{(2)}(0) = 0.036\pm0.004$. Furthermore, we determine its temperature dependent coherence time via Michelson interferometry, where a value of (13.5$\pm$1.0) ps is extracted for the zero-phonon line (ZPL) at 4 K, which reduces to (9$\pm$2) ps at 8 K. Associated time-resolved photoluminescence experiments reveal a decrease of the decay time from (2.4$\pm$0.1) ns to (0.42$\pm$0.05) ns. This change in decay time is explained by a model which considers a F\"orster-type resonant energy transfer process, which yields a strong temperature induced energy loss from the SPE to the nearby Ag nanoparticle.

Emitter dephasing is one of the key issues in the performance of solid-state single photon sources. Among the various sources of dephasing, acoustic phonons play a central role in adding decoherence to the single photon emission. Here, we demonstrate, that it is possible to tune and engineer the coherence of photons emitted from a single WSe$_2$ monolayer quantum dot via selectively coupling it to a spectral cavity resonance. We utilize an open cavity to demonstrate spectral enhancement, leveling, and suppression of the highly asymmetric phonon sideband, finding excellent agreement with a microscopic description of the exciton-phonon dephasing in a truly two-dimensional system. Moreover, the impact of cavity tuning on the dephasing is directly assessed via optical interferometry, which points out the capability to utilize light-matter coupling to steer and design dephasing and coherence of quantum emitters in atomically thin crystals.

Optical resonators are a powerful platform to control the spontaneous emission dynamics of excitons in solid-state nanostructures. Here, we study a MoSe$_2$-WSe$_2$ van-der-Waals heterostructure that is integrated in a widely tunable open optical microcavity to gain insights into fundamental optical properties of the emergent interlayer charge-transfer excitons. First, we utilize an ultra-low quality factor open planar vertical cavity and investigate the modification of the excitonic lifetime as on- and off-resonant conditions are met with consecutive longitudinal modes. Time-resolved photoluminescence measurements reveal that the interlayer exciton lifetime can thus be periodically tuned with an amplitude of 110 ps. The resulting oscillations of the interlayer exciton lifetime allows us to extract a 0.5 ns free-space radiative lifetime and a quantum efficiency as high as 81 \%. We subsequently engineer the local density of optical states by introducing a spatially confined and fully spectrally tunable Tamm-plasmon resonance. The Cold Atom Laboratory (CAL) is a quantum facility for studying ultra-cold gases in the microgravity environment of the International Space Station. It enables research in a temperature regime and force-free environment inaccessible to terrestrial laboratories. In the microgravity environment, observation times over a few seconds and temperatures below 100 pK are achievable, unlocking the potential to observe new quantum phenomena. CAL launched to the International Space Station in May 2018 and has been operating since then as the world's first multi-user facility for studying ultra\-cold atoms in space. CAL is the first quantum science facility to produce the fifth state of matter called a Bose-Einstein condensate with rubidium-87 and potassium-41 in Earth orbit. We will give an overview of CAL's operational setup, outline its contributions to date, present planned upgrades for the next few years, and consider design choices for microgravity BEC successor-mission planning., Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures. We propose a general scheme to generate entanglement encoded in the photon-number basis, via a sequential resonant two-photon excitation of a three-level system. We apply it to the specific case of a quantum dot three-level system, which can emit a photon pair through a biexciton-exciton cascade. The state generated in our scheme constitutes a tool for secure communication, as the multipartite correlations present in the produced state may provide an enhanced rate of secret communication with respect to a perfect GHZ state., Comment: 05 pages and 04 figures

We revisit and extend the standard bosonic interpretation of interlayer excitons in the moir\'e potential of twisted heterostructures of transition-metal dichalcogenides. In our experiments, we probe a high quality MoSe$_2$/WSe$_2$ van der Waals bilayer heterostructure via density-dependent photoluminescence spectroscopy and reveal strongly developed, unconventional spectral shifts of the emergent moir\'e exciton resonances. The observation of saturating blueshifts of successive exciton resonances allow us to explain their physics in terms of a model utilizing fermionic saturable absorbers. This approach is strongly inspired by established quantum-dot models, which underlines the close analogy of interlayer excitons trapped in pockets of the moir\'e potential, and quantum emitters with discrete eigenstates.
