Accessible communication comprises all measures employed to reduce communication barriers in various situations and fields of activity. Disabilities, illnesses, different educational opportunities and/or major life events can result in vastly different requirements in terms of how texts or messages must be prepared in order to meet the individual needs and access conditions of the recipients of accessible communication. This handbook examines and critically reflects accessible communication in its interdisciplinary breadth. Current findings, proposed solutions and research desiderata are juxtaposed with reports from practitioners and users, who provide insights into how they deal with accessible communication and highlight current and future requirements and problems.

Co-Creation ist eine gemeinsame Wertschaffung von Unternehmen und Kunden, bei der Kunden personalisierte Experiences (Erfahrungen und Erlebnisse) mitgestalten können. Dabei stellt die Integration von Kundenressourcen die Basis der Wertschaffung dar. Co-Creation bei Kunden erfordert eine echte Mitwirkung seitens der Kunden und sollte über die reine Produktebene hinausgehen. Kunden in unternehmerischen Entscheidungen einzubeziehen bedeutet, sie direkt in Partizipations- und Entscheidungsprozessen mitwirken zu lassen. In dieser Forschungsarbeit wird ein Co-Creation Modell entwickelt, um die Themen erlebnisreicher zu gestalten und die Kunden in der Lösungsfindung einzubinden. Letztendlich beruht Kernansatz der Co-Creation darauf, dass Kunden eine höhere Verbundenheit und Identifikation entwickeln, wenn sie an der Entwicklung und Verbesserungen von Lösungen aktiv integriert werden.

This book studies the role of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) as an advocate for greater environmental responsibility and analyses the major achievements and outcomes of two landmark conferences – Stockholm (1972) and Rio (1992) – which set the agenda for the future role of the UNEP. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg entwickelte sich die Landwirtschaft des Oldenburger Münsterlandes zum Rückgrat einer florierenden gewerblichen Wirtschaft. Inzwischen stehen die Bauern jedoch unter wachsendem ökonomischen Druck. Zudem wird das bisherige Erfolgsmodell, eine hochintensive Landwirtschaft, in der Öffentlichkeit zusehends in Frage gestellt. Am Beispiel des Oldenburger Münsterlandes zeigt sich eine Reihe von Strukturproblemen der modernen Landwirtschaft in gedrängter Form. In 38 offenen Interviews gaben Landwirte und ihre Familien aus dem Südoldenburger Raum Auskunft über ihre Stellung in der Gesellschaft, über Zumutungen und Glücksmomente ihres Berufes und darüber, wie sie sich der Zukunft stellen. Die gesammelten Aussagen zeigen nicht nur individuelle Wege und Schicksale; sie verweisen auch auf die Chancen und Perspektiven der ganzen Berufsgruppe.

Buchmann analyses the work of UK, German, Danish and Swedish embassies in the USA and China on climate change in the late 2000s and early 2010s. She relates which coalitions and narratives embassies sought to develop to convince China and the United States that a more progressive climate policy was possible, to achieve gains supporting an agreement under the UNFCCC. This book shows that a key interpretation of climate diplomacy was selling/trade: Europe selling technology “solutions” to solve climate change. In this narrative, Europe has already done what needs to be done and outsourcing of production to China e.g. is ignored. In the USA, embassies entered coalitions with states, faith groups and the military, arguing that a more progressive climate policy was mandated by either God or security concerns. State politicians, including Democrats, often actually didn't implement any climate policies. Any gains were reversed through climate denial lobbying funded by corporations. Embassies did not address this.

Essays that generate a new, empirically grounded theory of transnational advocacy Margaret E. Keck and Kathryn Sikkink introduced the boomerang theory in their 1998 book, Activists beyond Borders: Advocacy Networks in International Politics. It remains one of the first broadly applicable theories for why groups of NGOs and interested individuals form transnational advocacy networks. Since its publication, however, the empirical conditions that prompted their theory have changed. The types of actors involved in transnational advocacy have diversified. Northern NGOs have lost power and influence and have been restricted in their access to southern states. Southern NGOs have developed the capacity to undertake advocacy on their own and often built closer relationships with their own governments. The architecture of global governance has likewise changed, providing new avenues of access and influence for southern voices. In Beyond the Boomerang: From Transnational Advocacy Networks to Transcalar Advocacy in International Politics, editors Christopher L. Pallas and Elizabeth A. Bloodgood offer cutting-edge scholarship that synthesizes a new theoretical framework to develop a coherent, integrated picture of the current dynamics in global advocacy. This new theory of transcalar advocacy focuses on advocacy activities and policy impacts that transcend different levels or scales of political action. In transcalar advocacy, all NGOs–northern and southern–are treated as strategic actors, choosing the targets, scales of advocacy, and partnerships that best suit their capacities and goals. The case studies in the volume develop the empirical grounding of this theory using data from Latin America, Africa, Europe, and Asia, with several chapters featuring cross-national comparison. The chapters highlight the wide variety of actors involved in advocacy work, including NGOs, social movements, international institutions, governments, and businesses. Contributors use both qualitative and quantitative methodologies and bring to bear insights from political science, international relations, and sociology. The case studies also include diverse issue areas, from women's rights to environmental protection, sustainable agriculture, health policy, and democracy promotion.

A comprehensive study of the growth, potential, and limits of transnational eco-certification in China and the implications for other emerging economies.China has long prioritized economic growth over environmental protection. But in recent years, the country has become a global leader in the fight to save the planet by promoting clean energy, cutting air and water pollution, and developing a system of green finance. In Certifying China, Yixian Sun explores the potential and limits of transnational eco-certification in moving the world's most populous country toward sustainable consumption and production. He identifies the forces that drive companies from three sectors—seafood, palm oil, and tea—to embrace eco-certification. The success of eco-certification, he says, will depend on the extent to which it wins the support of domestic actors in fast-growing emerging economies. The assumption of eco-certification is that demand along the supply chain can drive businesses to adopt good practices for social, environmental, and economic sustainability by specifying rules for production, third-party verification, and product labeling. Through case studies drawn from extensive fieldwork and mixed methods, Sun traces the processes by which certification programs originating from the Global North were introduced in China and gradually gained traction. He finds that the rise of eco-certification in the Chinese market is mainly driven by state actors, including government-sponsored industry associations, who seek benefits of transnational governance for their own development goals. The book challenges the conventional wisdom that the Chinese state has little interest in supporting transnational governance, offering novel insights into the interaction between state and non-state actors in earth system governance in emerging economies.
