BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The aim of this study was to assess the neurological complications of SARS-CoV-2 infection and compare phenotypes and outcomes in infected patients with and without selected neurological manifestations. METHODS The data source was a registry established by the European Academy of Neurology during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Neurologists collected data on patients with COVID-19 seen as in- and outpatients and in emergency rooms in 23 European and seven non-European countries. Prospective and retrospective data included patient demographics, lifestyle habits, comorbidities, main COVID-19 complications, hospital and intensive care unit admissions, diagnostic tests, and outcome. Acute/subacute selected neurological manifestations in patients with COVID-19 were analysed, comparing individuals with and without each condition for several risk factors. RESULTS By July 31, 2021, 1523 patients (758 men, 756 women, and nine intersex/unknown, aged 16-101 years) were registered. Neurological manifestations were diagnosed in 1213 infected patients (79.6%). At study entry, 978 patients (64.2%) had one or more chronic general or neurological comorbidities. Predominant acute/subacute neurological manifestations were cognitive dysfunction (N = 449, 29.5%), stroke (N = 392, 25.7%), sleep-wake disturbances (N = 250, 16.4%), dysautonomia (N = 224, 14.7%), peripheral neuropathy (N = 145, 9.5%), movement disorders (N = 142, 9.3%), ataxia (N = 134, 8.8%), and seizures (N = 126, 8.3%). These manifestations tended to differ with regard to age, general and neurological comorbidities, infection severity and non-neurological manifestations, extent of association with other acute/subacute neurological manifestations, and outcome. CONCLUSIONS Patients with COVID-19 and neurological manifestations present with distinct phenotypes. Differences in age, general and neurological comorbidities, and infection severity characterize the various neurological manifestations of COVID-19.

Mestrado em Design Materiais e Gestão do Produto O presente trabalho propõe-se divulgar um estudo que consiste em avaliar a forma como a segurança e o design contribuem para a concepção de máquinas ferramenta mais seguras. Este estudo foi efectuado para o sector da indústria da cerâmica estrutural, dada a importância que o sector apresenta para o distrito de Aveiro. Não se poderia iniciar esta avaliação sem o conhecimento da indústria cerâmica estrutural, das suas máquinas ferramenta e respectivos problemas de segurança, bem como das possibilidades do design para a segurança activa e passiva das máquinas ferramenta. Optou-se então, nesta dissertação, pela inicial de todas as máquinas ferramenta do processo produtivo da indústria cerâmica estrutural e pela posterior escolha de uma máquina ferramenta, Mesa de Corte Multifio, para análise de riscos e seu redesign, tendo em vista a concepção de uma máquina mais segura. A metodologia utilizada na avaliação de segurança da máquina ferramenta, consistiu numa Avaliação de Risco, pelo método W. T. FINE. Esta Avaliação de Risco, considerou os requisitos legais e regulamentares, bem como a análise prática de todos os factores de risco na máquina ferramenta, pretendendo-se deste modo a análise de todos os factores de risco na máquina ferramenta em estudo O resultado da Avaliação de Risco conduziu a propostas de melhoria para a mesma, tendo-se procedido ao seu redesign The evaluation of the contribution to make more secure tool machines combined safety and design was the objective of this study. Considering the economic importance of one particular industry in the Aveiro district, the study approach the ceramic industry and more precisely the structural ceramic industry. We can’t initiate this evaluation with out knowing the structural ceramic industry. Including is the dissertation there is a initial analysis off all tool machines used in the ceramic production process industry, focusing after in a one precise tool machine a “Multifio” Cut Table and there risk analysis and redesign forward a more secure machine. The methodology used in the tool machine safety evaluation was by W. T. Fine risk evaluation method. The legal issues and regulamentation lays as well one practical analyse of all tool machine operations were including in the hazard evaluation, to make sure that all risk factors considered in the study of this particular tool machine. The hazard evaluation to improvement proposals and machine redesign. After redesign procedure the hazards evaluation to the operator were again made. The new hazard evaluation used the same method previously identify. The result of this revaluation leads to more secure tool machine conception. And result of this dissertation we concluded that one hazard evaluation that have in consideration the operator and the active and passive safety in the tool machine can lead design to concept more safety tool machine.
