Interpreting and predicting the saturation of tight sandstone gas reservoirs are the key task to improve the reservoir development. The role of gas diffusion dynamics is stronger than that of buoyancy during the gas accumulation of tight sandstone reservoirs. In this study, a saturation height model that takes gas diffusion dynamics into account is proposed, which can complement logging saturation interpretation and provide a better practice in saturation prediction. Taking the study of the Sulige tight sandstone gas reservoir in China as an example, the saturation height model compares the controlling factors and uncertainties affecting the saturation distribution, characterizes the complex gas-water distribution, and determines the lower gas charging limits. This study concludes that the configuration between gas diffusion dynamics and reservoir capillary pressure controls the distribution of saturation. The buoyancy effect only serves to improve the saturation at regional uplifts with good petrophysical properties. The different saturation characteristics in the central, western, and eastern parts of the Sulige gas field are precisely caused by the different configurations of source rock quality and reservoir quality. This study provides a key reference for static model and development deployment.

The Loess Plateau region is characterized by fragmented habitats and ecological vulnerability. Analyzing the changes in land use and ecological risk within the region is of great significance for promoting high-quality development of the Loess Plateau. The study utilized land use data from 2000, 2010, and 2020 in the Loess Plateau region to assess the spatio-temporal variation in land use patterns and landscape ecological risks, aiming to provide valuable references and decision support for ecological risk management and sustainable development in the area. The results indicated that the main land use types in the region are grassland and cropland. From 2000 to 2020, forest, grassland, and water areas increased by 1.39 × 106, 6.25 × 105, and 7.09 × 104 ha, respectively. The impervious area increased rapidly, growing from 9.77 × 104 ha in 2000 to 1.85 × 106 ha in 2020. The cropland decreased by 1.82 × 106 ha from 2000 to 2020, with 4.61 × 105, 4.95 × 106, and 8.91 × 105 ha of cropland converted to forest, grassland, and impervious area, respectively. The fragmentation of the ecological landscape in the region has decreased, and the diversity and richness of landscape types have increased. The fragmentation of cropland, forest, and grassland has decreased, and landscape patches have become more concentrated. High-value areas of landscape ecological risk in the region show a trend of continuous aggregation, altering the dispersion pattern of high-risk areas. Currently, high-risk areas of landscape ecology in the Loess Plateau region are mainly concentrated in northern Shaanxi and some areas along the Yellow River, such as Yulin, Yan’an, Ordos, and others. Currently, the ecological environment remains a bottleneck constraining the high-quality development of the Loess Plateau. It is necessary to persist in coordinated governance and ecological engineering construction, and improving the quality of ecological environment is a prerequisite for consolidating the social foundation and leading the high-quality development of the ecological industry on the Loess Plateau.

Individuals diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are more likely to have suicidal thoughts and behaviors. However, little research delineates the temporal and mechanistic associations between potential risk factors and suicidality in autistic individuals. We assessed 129 autistic and 121 age-matched and sex-assigned-at-birth-matched typically developing (TD) children and youth at baseline and follow-up. We evaluated internalizing/externalizing problems, bullying experiences, and three executive function tasks at a mean baseline age of 13.4 years (standard deviation: 4.2 years). After an average of 5.8 years (standard deviation: 1.7 years), we evaluated their suicidal thoughts and behaviors. The experiences of being bullied partially mediated the temporal relationship between pre-existing ASD and later-reported suicidal thoughts. Several cognitive flexibility and sustained attention indices mediated the temporal relationship between pre-existing ASD and later-reported suicidal thoughts. A multiple mediation model confirmed that bullying victimization and cognitive flexibility jointly mediated the temporal relationship between ASD and suicidal thoughts. Better cognitive flexibility and experiences of bullying victimization in autistic children/youth were both associated with higher risks of later-reported suicidal thoughts in adolescence/adulthood. School bullying-prevention programs and tailored clinical support for autistic youth with better cognitive flexibility are warranted for personalized suicide prevention for the autistic population.

This paper is about a study on the mechanical properties of a new polymer-cement composite (PCC) in constant elongation, tension, and shear. The study explored the effects of powder-liquid ratio and cement ratio on the mechanical properties of PCC through detecting the strength, deformation, and energy consumption of specimens under different powder-liquid ratios and cement ratios. In addition, scanning electron microscope and mercury injection apparatus were used for an in-depth analysis on the micromorphology and pore structure features of PCC under different powder-liquid ratios and cement ratios to explore the influence of powder-liquid ratio and cement ratio of the micromechanical properties of PCC. The results showed that, with the increase of powder-liquid ratio and cement ratio, the constant elongation adhesion strength of PCC decreased, and, at a high powder-liquid ratio (0.55) or a high cement ratio (0.5), the constant elongation adhesion strength of PCC completely disappeared. Meanwhile, with the increase of powder-liquid ratio and cement ratio, the tensile shear strength of PCC increased, while the deformation capacity of PCC decreased. The optimal ranges of powder-liquid ratio and cement ratio for PCC were 0.35–0.4 and 0.3-0.4, respectively. Furthermore, the increased powder-liquid ratio and cement ratio made the total pore volume decreased and pore structure refined, which improved the compactness of PCC, thus influencing the performance of PCC macroscopically. An achievement for the study is a flexible composite material, which was formulated with the polymer film as continuous base phase, as well as the inorganic composition and cement hydrates as dispersion phase. The material can effectively improve the economy and practicability of cementation of fissures for airfield pavement.

With the further development of oilfield, liquid-gas separation has become an essential problem. Cylindrical cyclone separators are popular in the industrial process due to the advantage that they are simple, compact, and inexpensive to manufacture. In this paper, a three-dimensional turbulence model including Reynolds stress model was established to describe the mixture flow field in the separator. Through the numerical simulation, the separation efficiency was investigated under different parameter cases such as separator length, gas phase outlet diameter, and inlet shape. It can be indicated from the simulation results that the separation efficiency decreases with the increase of the separator length, and the separation efficiency increases firstly and then decreases with the increase of the gas phase outlet diameter as well as the liquid phase outlet. Furthermore, the rectangular inlet is more suitable than the circular inlet with the separation efficiency changing from 66.45% to 79.04%. In the end, the optimal geometrical structure was presented with separation efficiency of 86.15%.

Background/Purpose: The number of psychiatrists working in community clinics in Taiwan has increased dramatically in the recent decade. This study aimed to investigate the trend of prevalence and incidence of depressive disorders and assess the quality of depression care between 2007 and 2016 in Taiwan. Methods: We used the claims database derived from Taiwan's National Health Insurance (NHI) program, in which approximately 23.0 million individuals were enrolled, translating to a coverage rate of 99%. Patients with depressive disorders were identified based on International Classification of Diseases codes. The process indicators of depression care quality included visit, duration, and dose adequacy. The outcome indicators included the rate of psychiatric hospitalisation, emergency visit, self-harm hospitalisation, and suicide. Results: The prevalence of treated depressive disorders increased from 1.61% in 2007 to 1.92% in 2016, i.e., a 25% increase, whereas the incidence of first-ever or recurrent depressive disorder did not change significantly. The number of patients treated by psychiatrists and in community clinics also increased. The quality of depression care improved, the proportion of patients receiving minimum psychiatric clinic follow-up and adequate medication increased, and the rate of emergency visits, psychiatric hospitalisation, and self-harm hospitalisation declined. Conclusion: The community-based psychiatric services increased and the quality indicators of depression care in Taiwan improved during 2007–2016. The causality warrants further investigations.

Objectives To evaluate the impact of Helicobacter pylori eradication on venous thromboembolism (VTE) events, and the differences between early and late treatment timing.Design A population-based cohort study.Setting Taiwan’s National Health Insurance Research Database.Participants A total of 6736 patients who received H. pylori eradication therapy from 2000 to 2010 were identified. We randomly selected 26 944 subjects matching in gender, age and baseline year as comparison cohort.Primary and secondary outcome measures The incidence rate ratios of VTE in the H. pylori eradication cohorts to that of the control cohort were examined. Multivariable Cox proportional hazard regression analysis was used to estimate the relative HRs and 95% CI of VTE development.Results The total incidence rate of VTE was observed in the late H. pylori eradication cohort, the early H. pylori eradication cohort and the control cohort (15.2, 3.04 and 2.91 per 1000 person-years, respectively). An age-specific trend was found in the late H. pylori eradication cohort, with a greater rate of VTE in the 50–65 years and more than 65 years age groups (adjusted HR 5.44; 95% CI 4.21 to 7.03 and 3.13; 95% CI 2.46 to 3.99). With comorbidities, the late H. pylori eradication cohort seemed to have the highest VTE incidence rate and adjusted HR (4.48, 95% CI 3.78 to 5.30).Conclusions Late H. pylori eradication was associated with a significantly increased risk of VTE, and there was a significantly greater risk of VTE in patients with female gender, age more than 50 years and with comorbidities.

Background/Purpose: We examined the prevalence of probable common mental disorders (CMDs) in commercial low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) lung cancer screening consumers relative to the general population and to determine the correlates of probable CMDs among screening participants. Methods: Commercial LDCT lung cancer screening consumers (N = 1323) were compared with a nationally representative sample from the Taiwan Social Change Survey (TSCS) (N = 2034). Respondents scoring ≥3 on the Chinese Health Questionnaire were classified as having a probable CMD. Logistic regression was used to investigate differences between the two groups and correlates of probable CMDs among LDCT lung cancer screening participants. Results: The prevalence of probable CMDs was higher among LDCT lung cancer screening participants (25.47%) than among TSCS adults (21.56%). Compared with the TSCS sample, the screening participants had a higher probability of CMDs (OR = 1.40, 95% CI = 1.13–1.73), higher education levels (OR = 7.95, 95% CI = 6.00–10.53), and a history of drinking (OR = 11.85, 95% CI = 9.45–14.85) or betel-quid use (OR = 5.43, 95% CI = 3.98–7.42) but were less likely to smoke (OR = 0.52, 95% CI = 0.40–0.68). Among the screening participants, being female (OR = 1.37, 95% CI = 1.02–1.84) and a current smoker (OR = 1.74, 1.19–2.54) and living near ≥2 smoking family members (OR = 2.30, 95% CI 1.57–3.38) were associated with an increased likelihood of having CMDs. Conclusion: Commercial LDCT lung cancer screening users may have a positive association with probable CMDs compared to the general population. Screening programs should consider including criteria and providing psychoeducation to improve the physical and mental outcomes of participants. Abstract Background Goji (Lycium) is a popular traditional health food, and its fruit and root extracts have been found to possess antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and hypocholesterolemia-inducing abilities. Goji leaves also contain high amounts of phenolic compounds, similar to its fruit, and their extracts also exhibit several pharmaceutical effects. The induction of galls on Goji leaves reduces their photosynthetic ability and fruit yield, which raise their farming costs, thereby leading to economic loss. However, the defense mechanisms induced by infection may elevate the secondary metabolite content of the leaves, which might provide more nutritive compounds. Method Content of chlorophyll, carotenoids, polyphenols, and flavonoids in the extracts of normal and infected Goji leaves (L. chinense) were analyzed. The relative content of chlorogenic acid and rutin, two major phenolic compounds in Goji leaves, were determined by LC-MS/MS. Antioxidant activity was presented by demonstrating the DPPH scavenging percentage. The extract of Goji fruit (L. barbarum) was also analyzed to show a comparative result. Results In this study, we found that in infected Goji leaves, the polyphenol content was significantly increased. The level of chlorogenic acid was increased by 36% in galled leaves. The content of rutin in galled leaves was also elevated. Testing the antioxidant activities also showed that the extracts of galled leaves have higher DPPH scavenging abilities. Conclusions Our results demonstrated that galled Goji leaves have higher functional value, and may have potential as being consumed as health food.

Background: Administering premixed drugs in commodity packets was first reported in Asia in 2015, but there continues to be a dearth of related population-based data. This study aimed at examining (1) the prevalence of drug-packet use in the population and (2) the sociodemographic profiles, particularly gender distribution, of drug-packet users. Methods: Data were derived from a survey of 18,626 Taiwanese civilians, aged 12-64 years, using stratified, multi-stage, random sampling in 2018. Participants anonymously completed a computer-assisted self-interview on tablet computers which covered the use and problematic use of illicit drugs/inhalants, prescription drugs, and other psychoactive substances. Results: Approximately 1.46% of respondents had a lifetime use of illicit drugs, with drugs in commodity packets (0.18%) being ranked the fifth-most commonly used illicit drugs, higher than nitrous oxide (0.14%) and heroin (0.09%). Ten formats of drug packets were endorsed by users. Approximately 81.6% of persons with drug packet use had lifetime use of other illicit drugs. The correlates of the use of drugs in commodity packets were different from those of the exclusive use of other drugs, particularly concerning the lack of gender differences in the former category in the whole sample and the subgroups of various sociodemographic characteristics and other substance use. Conclusion: Drugs in commodity packets have become a common way of administering illicit drugs in the population in Taiwan, and there were no gender differences among users. Our findings have implications for more efficient drug testing and culturally appropriate intervention for drug-packet use. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this work, we suggest a differential variational inequality in reflexive Banach spaces and construct a sequence with a set of constraints and a penalty parameter. We use the penalty method to prove a unique solution to the problem and make suitable assumptions to prove the convergence of the sequence. The proof is based on arguments for compactness, symmetry, pseudomonotonicity, Mosco convergence, inverse strong monotonicity and Lipschitz continuity. Finally, we discuss the boundary value problem for the differential variational inequality problem as an application.

In this article, we propose an optimal control problem for generalized elliptic quasi-variational inequality with unilateral constraints. Then, we discuss the sufficient assumptions that ensure the convergence of the solutions to the optimal control problem. The proofs depend on convergence results for generalized elliptic quasi-variational inequalities, obtained by the arguments of compactness, lower semi-continuity, monotonicity, penalty and different estimates. As an application, we addressed the abstract convergence results in the analysis of optimal control associated with boundary value problems.

Abstract The purpose of this article is to propose a modified viscosity implicit-type proximal point algorithm for approximating a common solution of a monotone inclusion problem and a fixed point problem for an asymptotically nonexpansive mapping in Hadamard spaces. Under suitable conditions, some strong convergence theorems of the proposed algorithms to such a common solution are proved. Our results extend and complement some recent results in this direction.

To analyze the enrichment characteristics and correlation of Se and heavy metals in soil-blueberry fruit systems in different geological background areas of Guizhou Province, 86 soil samples and 58 blueberry fruit samples were collected from blueberry planting areas in the Majiang, Ziyun, and Huangping counties of Guizhou Province. The contents of Se and 9 other heavy metals in soil and blueberry fruit were determined using an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (ICP-MS) and inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometer (ICP-AES). The results showed that the Se contents of the soils in the dolomite and limestone distribution areas are higher than the background values of topsoil in Guizhou, and both met the Se-rich soil standard. The Se content of the soil in the study areas exhibits the characteristics of limestone area>dolomite area>sandstone area, indicating that the geological background controls the Se content of the soil. In dolomite soil, Se is negatively correlated with As, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb, and Zn, while in limestone soil, Se is positively correlated with As, Cr, Ni, and Zn. In dolomite and limestone areas, the Se in soil is negatively correlated with Hg and Pb in blueberry fruit. There is no significant correlation in the sandstone area. The blueberries in each growing area have a high enrichment capacity for Se and have all reached the selenium-rich blueberry standard, which has the potential for development into selenium-rich blueberry agriculture. The main purpose of this paper is threefold. One is to study the existence and convergence problem of solutions for a class of generalized mixed quasi-variational hemivariational inequalities. The second one is to study the existence of optimal control for such kind of generalized mixed quasi-variational hemivariational inequalities under given control u∈U. The third one is to study the relationship between the optimal control and the data for the underlying generalized mixed quasi-variational inequality problems and a class of minimization problem. As an application, we utilize our results to study the elastic frictional problem in a class of Hilbert spaces. The results presented in the paper extend and improve upon some recent results.

Cervical spinal cord injury interrupts supraspinal pathways innervating thoracic sympathetic preganglionic neurons and results in cardiovascular dysfunction. Both respiratory and locomotor functions were also impaired due to damages of motoneuron pools controlling respiratory and forelimb muscles, respectively. However, no study has investigated autonomic and somatic motor functions in the same animal model. The present study aimed to establish a cervical spinal cord injury model to evaluate cardiorespiratory response and locomotor activity in unanesthetized rats. Cardiovascular response and respiratory behavior following laminectomy or cervical spinal contusion were measured using noninvasive blood pressure analyzer and plethysmography systems, respectively. Locomotor activity was evaluated by an open-field test and a locomotor rating scale. The results demonstrated that mean arterial blood pressure and heart rate were significantly reduced in contused rats compared with uninjured rats at the acute injured stage. Tidal volume was also significantly reduced during the acute and subchronic stages. Moreover, locomotor function was severely impaired, evidenced by decreasing moving ability and locomotor rating scores from the acute to chronic injured stages. Retrograde neurotracer results revealed that cervical spinal cord injury caused a reduction in number of phrenic and triceps motoneurons. Immunofluorescence staining revealed a significant attenuation of serotonergic, noradrenergic, glutamatergic, and GABAergic fibers innervating the thoracic sympathetic preganglionic neurons in chronically contused rats. These results revealed the pathological mechanism underlying the comorbidity of cardiorespiratory and locomotor dysfunction following cervical spinal cord injury. We proposed that this animal model can be used to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of potential strategies to improve different physiological functions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, we introduce an iterative algorithm for finding a common solution of a finite family of the equilibrium problems, quasi-variational inclusion problems and fixed point problem on Hadamard manifolds. Under suitable conditions, some strong convergence theorems are proved. Our results extend some recent results in literature.

Heritage trees carry both botanical and historical value for a city’s resilience and sustainability and hence are precious and unique. Their transplant is costly and very rare due to tremendous cost and 100% survival requirement by law. Rootless transplant is even more detrimental to the heritage tree due to removal of roots infected by brown root rot (BRR) before transplanting. This study examined the adventitious roots (AR) induction ability of the Ficus elastica Roxb. heritage tree infected with BRR. The experimental design considered three factors: root diameter (RD), wounding method (WM), and auxin solution on aerial roots under fractional factorial experiment in completely randomized design (CRD). There were four RD groups: RDI (RD < 2 cm), RDII (2 ≤ RD ≤ 4.3 cm), RDIII (4.3 < RD ≤ 22), and RDIV (RD > 22); three WMs: cutting off (CF), girdling (GD), and rectangular shape peeling (RP) of aerial roots; and three auxin solutions: 2000 mg·L−1 IBA(Indole-3-butyric acid) (2B), 2000 mg·L−1 IBA + 2000 mg·L−1 NAA(1-Naphthaleneacetic acid) (2NB), and 4000 mg·L−1 IBA (4B) plus water as control (C). The number of rooting wounds, number of roots, and the mean length of the three longest adventitious roots in each wound were recorded to evaluate the AR rooting performance. Twenty four treatment combinations including 328 wounds were tested. The results showed that rooting ability was significantly correlated with RD and WM. Smaller RDs had better rooting and declined with increased RDs. CF had the best rooting followed by GD and then RP. Auxin solution did not significantly affect the rooting ability. It may be due to the abundant endogenous auxin in the heritage tree, which mitigated the effect of exogenous auxin for AR induction. We conclude that cutting off small-diameter aerial roots is the best approach to induce ARs from rootless F. elastica heritage trees to enhance transplantation success.

It is widely accepted that snake venom cardiotoxins (CTXs) target the plasma membranes of cells. In the present study, we investigated the role of Asp residues in the interaction of Naja atra cardiotoxin 1 (CTX1) and cardiotoxin 3 (CTX3) with phospholipid bilayers using chemical modification. CTX1 contains three Asp residues at positions 29, 40, and 57; CTX3 contains two Asp residues at positions 40 and 57. Compared to Asp29 and Asp40, Asp57 was sparingly modified with semi-carbazide, as revealed by matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight (MALDI-TOF) mass and mass/mass analyses. Thus, semi-carbazide-modified CTX1 (SEM-CTX1) mainly contained modified Asp29 and Asp40, while SEM-CTX3 contained modified Asp40. Compared to that of native toxins, trifluoroethanol easily induced structural transition of SEM-CTX1 and SEM-CTX3, suggesting that the structural flexibility of CTXs was constrained by Asp40. Modification of Asp29 and Asp40 markedly promoted the ability of CTX1 to induce permeability of cell membranes and lipid vesicles; CTX3 and SEM-CTX3 showed similar membrane-damaging activity. Modification of Asp residues did not affect the membrane-binding capability of CTXs. Circular dichroism spectra of SEM-CTX3 and CTX3 were similar, while the gross conformation of SEM-CTX1 was distinct from that of CTX1. The interaction of CTX1 with membrane was distinctly changed by Asp modification. Collectively, our data suggest that Asp29 of CTX1 suppresses the optimization of membrane-bound conformation to a fully active state and that the function of Asp40 in the structural constraints of CTX1 and CTX3 is not important for the manifestation of membrane-perturbing activity.
