2. A Study on Awareness of Medicinal Plants and Utilization of Pain Relief Products

Abstract

This study was conducted to investigate and analyze the lifestyle of modern people and the awareness, knowledge, and use status of medicinal plants for pain relief according to body parts. The subjects of the study were 400 men and women in their 20s and 60s or less in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. Data analysis was performed by calculating and analyzing descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and Cronbach's α using the SPSS statistical package 21.0 version, and cross-analysis and t-test were performed. As a result of the study, interest and preference for medicinal plants with pain relief effects were high, but awareness that medicinal plants are effective for pain was found to be insufficient. In addition, it was studied that products using medicinal plants did not have various purchase paths and lacked product diversity. Therefore, it can be said that it has a meaning as a study in a positive aspect that is contrary to the previous researchers on the perception of the use of medicinal plants. This study is expected to be used as basic data for the development of the beauty industry and the product industry using medicinal plants if products that help relieve pain are developed using medicinal plants.

Abstract

Backgound: This study evaluated whether the hydration status affected health-related quality of life (HRQOL) during 12 months in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. Methods: The hydration status and the HRQOL were examined at baseline and after 12 months using a bioimpedance spectroscopy and Kidney Disease Quality of Life-Short Form, respectively in PD patients. Four hundred eighty-one patients were included and divided according to the baseline overhydration (OH) value; normohydration group (NH group, -2L≤ OH ≤+2L, n=266) and overhydration group (OH group, OH >+2L, n=215). Baseline HRQOL scores were compared between the two groups. The subjects were re-stratified into quartiles according to the OH difference (OH value at baseline - OH value at 12 months

6. The Analysis of the Sweating Rate, Skin Temperature on the Upper Body and Subjective Sensations

Abstract

This study aimed to measure the amount of sweating on 12 parts of the upper body using absorption fabric and analyze subjective sensations. The study was conducted with 9 male subjects in climate chamber controled at 30±0.5 o C, and 55±5% RH. The result was that sweating amount of the upper back part was significantly more than upper front part. We assumed that forced convection flow cased by exercise decreased the sweating rate in the front. The skin temperature of upper front body rapidly decreased as soon as exercise starts and gradually increased with cessation of exercise. On the other hand, the skin temperature of palm increased with exercise and showed continuous increasing even exercise stopping all the experimental period. This is caused by thermoregulatory responses through vasodilatation on the peripheral area. Subjective sensations, such as thermal sensation, wet sensation, and thermal comfort showed the highest score at the time of exercise stop. This means the subjects felt more hot, wet, and uncomfortable after exercise stopped. Bur after wiping of sweat, subjective sensation scores were recovered rapidly. The present study has provided more detailed information on the upper body sweat distribution than previously available, which can be used in clothing design, thermo-physiological modeling, and thermal manikin design. We also think that results of the present study will play an important role in making the sweat distribution map.

Abstract

This study compares the gait characteristics of elderly women during barefoot walking and walking with sneakers. We measured foot angles, max foot pressure, peak plantar pressure of each plantar region, velocity of Center of Pressure(COP), and axis shifting of COP with an RS-scan system. Elderly women's foot angles were narrower when walking with sneakers than when barefoot walking. We found that the subtalar joint angle (representing ankle joint flex- ibility) affected walking stability. Regarding the peak plantar pressure of each foot region, pressures were high in the medial regions and the pressures greatly varied depending on the region measured during barefoot walking. The COP moved significantly faster when walking with sneakers than barefoot walking and suggests that elderly women walked faster in sneakers. Axis shifting of the COP decreased during walking with sneakers and indicated that gait balance improved when walking with sneakers. The findings of the present study can be utilized as foundational data for elderly women's gait characteristics as well as data for the production of functional footwear. 8. The Physiological Responses of Material-improved Working Clothes for Construction Site Worker

Abstract

In this paper, experiments to develop working clothes and evaluated, including the current and material-improved working clothes in relation to physiological functionality measurement. Experiments were conducted on sub-jects after wearing working clothes in an climate chamber, and the thermo-physiological response, such as human bodytemperature, micro-climate within the clothes, blood pressure, heart rate were measured. In this manner, the phys-iological functionality of improved working clothes was compared with that of current working clothes and evaluated. Thesummary of obtained results is as follows: For physiological functionality evaluation through material-improved workingclothes, P working clothes showed significantly lower rectal temperature than C working clothes. For mean skin tem-perature, P's skin temperature was significantly higher than C's in the second half of the experiment. P working clothes'stemperature around the thighs in Micro climate was significantly lower than that of the C working clothes. Also, humiditywithin the clothes showed similar trends. During the exercise period, C working clothes showed higher blood pressurethan P, but P showed higher heart rates than C. Also, the oxygen uptake amount was higher in C than P during the exer-cise period, it explains that the energy consumption amount of P working clothes was smaller than that of C workingclothes. Of the subjective evaluation, for temperature sensation, workers wearing P working clothes felt cooler. Forhumidity, C working clothes showed more humidity. For comfort, P working clothes were better, and for sense of fatigue,workers felt less tired wearing P working clothes. From results above, we can see that physiological functionality improvedin the material-improved working clothes in the working clothes for construction site workers. The improvement of workingclothes through functionality improvements not only will provide personal pleasantness to constriction site workers, but willalso generate efficiency and productivity improvements at construction sites. All in all, the continuous study of functionalityimprovements in working clothes taking into consideration the human body's physiological responses is required.Key words:construction field, material-improved working clothes, physiological responses

Abstract

Background: MIBI(Methoxyisobutylisonitrile complex), a member of the isonitrile class of coordination compounds, is a lipophilic cation presently under investigation for clinical use as myocardial perfusion imaging agent and is widely used to detect myocardial infarction. Preliminary reports indicate that -201 accumulate in human neoplasm and several authors reported MIBI may also localized in primary malignant tumor and metastatic deposits from lung cancer. We evaluated the uptake of MIBI in lung cancer and localization of mediastinal and other site metastasis, and compared the benign lesion of the lung. Method: Thirty four patients of lung cancer and ten patients of benign lung lesion were studied with chest CT and MIBI Lung SPECT. MIBI uptake ratio was assessed by TR/NL(Lung lesion/ Normal area), HT/NL (Heart/Normal area) and HT/TR(Heart/Lung lesion). Results: 1) All lung cancer patients showed increased uptakes of MIBI in malignant lung lesion and Tc-99m MIBI uptake was also increased in mediastinal and lymph node metastasis except two cases. 2) There was significant different ratio of TR/NL between malignant and benign lesion, and on planar images, respectively(p MIBI uptake ratio between squamous cell carcinoma, small cell carcinoma and adeno carcinoma(, , respectively). Conclusion: MIBI lung SPECT was useful in the localization of tumor and mediastinal or other site metastatic lesion in lung cancer and also in the differential diagnosis between benign and malignant lesion.
