Introduction: The basic strategy to mitigate water crisis is to save agricultural water consumption by increasing productivity, which will result in more income for farmers and sustainable production. Due to the economic importance of barley production in the country, it is necessary to study the volume of irrigation water and water productivity to produce this strategic product. Based on extensive field research on irrigation water management and application of different irrigation methods in barley farms, the innovations of this research were: a) measuring water consumed and determining water use efficiency in barley production, b) the up-to-date of the measurements and research findings, c) findings applicability for application in agricultural planning at the national and regional levels, d) the ability to development the findings in barley farms at the national level to improve water use efficiency. The hypotheses of this research are: a) barley irrigation water is various in different regions, b) water applied in barley farms is more than the required one, c) the water use efficiency of barley is different in the main production areas, and d) The applied water of barley is not the same in different irrigation methods. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to determine the water consumed and water use efficiency in barley production; to measure the water applied to barley farms in the main production areas; to compare the water measured in the production areas with the net irrigation requirement; and finally to determine water use efficiency of the barley in the main production areas in the Iran. Materials and Methods For this purpose, the volume of irrigation water and barley yield in 296 selected farms in 12 provinces (about 75% of the area under cultivation and production of barley in Iran) including Khuzestan, East Azerbaijan, Ardabil, North Khorasan, Fars, Khorasan Razavi, Tehran, Semnan, Markazi, Isfahan, Hamedan and Qazvin were measured directly. Farms in the mentioned provinces were selected to cover various factors such as irrigation method, level of ownership, proper distribution and quality of irrigation water. By carefully monitoring the irrigation program of selected farms during the growing season, the amount of irrigation water for barley during one year was measured. At the end of the season and after determining the average yield of barley during the 2020-2021 year, the values of irrigation water productivity and total water productivity (irrigation+effective rainfall) were determined in selected barley farms in each region. The volume of water supplied was compared with the gross irrigation requirements estimated by the Penman-Monteith method using meteorological data from the last ten years, and compared with the values of the National Water Document. Analysis of variance was used to investigate the possible differences in yield, irrigation water and water productivity in barley production. Results and Discussion To assess the reliability of statistical analysis, we evaluated the sufficiency of the number of measurements needed for both the quantity of irrigation water and the ley yield on the farms. Subsequently, we computed statistical indices, such as the mean and standard deviation. The results showed that the number of measurements of irrigation water and barley yield was to be 296 and 283, respectively, which was more than the number of measurements required for irrigation water (41 dataset) and yield (50 dataset). Therefore, the sufficiency of the data for the statistical analysis was reliable. The results showed that the difference in yield, volume of irrigation water and water productivity indices were significant in the mentioned provinces. The volume of barley irrigation water in the studied areas varied from 1900 to 9300 cubic meters per hectare and its average weight was 4875 cubic meters per hectare. The average barley yield in selected farms varied from 1630 to 7050 kg ha-1 and the average was 3985 kg ha-1. Irrigation water productivity in selected provinces ranged from 0.22 to 1.53 and its weight average was 0.90 kg m-3. Average gross irrigation water requirement in the study areas by the Penman-Monteith method using meteorological data of the last ten years and the national water document were 4710 and 4950 cubic meters per hectare, respectively. Irrigation efficiency of barley fields in the country is estimated at 6265% without deficit irrigation. Conclusion In order to reduce water consumption and improve water productivity, it is suggested to manage water delivery to farms during the season and deliver water rights to them according to crops water requirements. To reduce water losses and enhance productivity in the barley farms, it is suggested the application of modern irrigation systems according to the farms conditions with the suitable operation; and modification and improvement of surface and traditional irrigation methods. Note that, water is only one of several necessary and effective inputs in the optimal and economic production of barley. Background and Objectives: Oligodendrogliomas are defined by IDH1/2 mutation and codeletion of chromosome arms 1p/19q. Although previous studies identified CIC , FUBP1 , and TERTp as frequently altered in oligodendrogliomas, the clinical relevance of these molecular signatures is unclear. Moreover, previous studies predominantly used research panels that are not readily available to providers and patients. Accordingly, we explore genomic alterations in molecularly defined oligodendrogliomas using clinically standardized next-generation sequencing (NGS) panels., Methods: A retrospective single-center study evaluated adults with pathologically confirmed IDH -mutant, 1p/19q-codeleted oligodendrogliomas diagnosed between 2005 and 2021. Genetic data from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded specimens were analyzed with the NGS Solid Tumor Panel at the Johns Hopkins Medical Laboratories, which tests more than 400 cancer-related genes. Kaplan-Meier plots and log-rank tests compared progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival by variant status. χ 2 tests, t -tests, and Wilcoxon rank-sum tests were used to compare clinical characteristics between genomic variant status in the 10 most frequently altered genes., Results: Two hundred and seventy-seven patients with molecularly defined oligodendrogliomas were identified, of which 95 patients had available NGS reports. Ten genes had 9 or more patients with a genomic alteration, with CIC , FUBP1 , and TERTp being the most frequently altered genes (n = 60, 23, and 22, respectively). Kaplan-Meier curves showed that most genes were not associated with differences in PFS or overall survival. At earlier time points (PFS <100 months), CIC alterations conferred a reduction in PFS in patients ( P = .038)., Conclusion: Our study confirms the elevated frequency of CIC , FUBP1 , and TERTp alterations in molecularly defined oligodendrogliomas and suggests a potential relationship of CIC alteration to PFS at earlier time points. The European Union's ban on animal testing for cosmetic products and their ingredients, combined with the lack of validated animal-free methods, poses challenges in evaluating their potential repeated-dose organ toxicity. To address this, innovative strategies like Next-Generation Risk Assessment (NGRA) are being explored, integrating historical animal data with new mechanistic insights from non-animal New Approach Methodologies (NAMs). This paper introduces the TOXIN knowledge graph (TOXIN KG), a tool designed to retrieve toxicological information on cosmetic ingredients, with a focus on liver-related data. TOXIN KG uses graph-structured semantic technology and integrates toxicological data through ontologies, ensuring interoperable representation. The primary data source is safety information on cosmetic ingredients from scientific opinions issued by the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety between 2009 and 2019. The ToxRTool automates the reliability assessment of toxicity studies, while the Simplified Molecular Input Line Entry System (SMILES) notation standardizes chemical identification, enabling in silico prediction of repeated-dose toxicity via the implementation of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship Toolbox (OECD QSAR Toolbox). The ToXic Process Ontology, enriched with relevant biological repositories, is employed to represent toxicological concepts systematically. Search filters allow the identification of cosmetic compounds potentially linked to liver toxicity. Data visualization is achieved through Ontodia, a JavaScript library. TOXIN KG, filled with information for 88 cosmetic ingredients, allowed us to identify 53 compounds affecting at least one liver toxicity parameter in a 90-day repeated-dose animal study. For one compound, we illustrate how TOXIN KG links this observation to hepatic cholestasis as an adverse outcome. In an ab initio NGRA context, follow-up in vitro studies using human-based NAMs would be necessary to understand the compound's biological activity and the molecular mechanism leading to the adverse effect. In summary, TOXIN KG emerges as a valuable tool for advancing the reusability of cosmetics safety data, providing knowledge in support of NAM-based hazard and risk assessments. Purpose: Oligodendroglioma is an adult-type diffuse glioma defined by 1p/19q codeletion and IDH1/2 mutation. Treatment includes surgery followed by observation alone in select low-grade tumors, or combination radiation and chemotherapy with procarbazine, lomustine, and vincristine (PCV) or temozolomide (TMZ). While prospective studies investigating treatments for molecularly defined oligodendrogliomas are ongoing, this retrospective study analyzes the relationship between adjuvant regimens and progression-free survival (PFS)., Methods: Adults with IDH-mutant, 1p/19q codeleted oligodendroglioma (WHO grade 2 or 3) who underwent surgery between 2005 and 2021 were identified. Clinical data, disease characteristics, treatment, and outcomes were collected., Results: A total of 207 patients with grade 2 and 70 with grade 3 oligodendrogliomas were identified. Median (IQR) follow-up was 57 (87) months. Patients with grade 3 tumors who received adjuvant radiation and PCV had longer median PFS (> 110 months) than patients who received radiation and TMZ (52 months, p = 0.008) or no adjuvant chemoradiation (83 months, p = 0.03), which was not seen in grade 2 tumors (p = 0.8). In multivariate analysis, patients who received PCV chemotherapy (Relative Risk [95% CI] = 0.24[0.05-1.08] and radiotherapy (0.46[0.21-1.02]) trended towards longer PFS, independently of grade., Conclusion: Adjuvant radiation and PCV are associated with improved PFS over radiation with TMZ in patients with grade 3 molecularly defined oligodendrogliomas, and all-grade patients treated with PCV trended towards decreased risk of recurrence and progression. Background: Pretreatment computed tomography perfusion parameter relative cerebral blood volume (rCBV) lesion volume has been shown to predict 90-day modified Rankin Scale score in small-core strokes with Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Score ≥5, including those with medium-vessel occlusions (mid and distal M2 segment occlusions). Hence, in this study we aim to assess the performance of different rCBV lesion volume thresholds (rCBV <42%, rCBV <38%, and rCBV <34%) with 90-day modified Rankin Scale score including patients with large core (Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Score <5) and strictly including only patients with anterior circulation large-vessel occlusion., Methods and Results: In this retrospective evaluation of our prospectively collected database, inclusion criteria were (1) Computed tomographic angiography confirmed anterior circulation large-vessel occlusion from September 1, 2017, to October 1, 2023; and (2) diagnostic computed tomography perfusion. Student t test, Mann-Whitney U test, and χ 2 test were used in the univariate data analysis. Spearman's rank correlation analysis was used to assess correlations. Outcome measure was dichotomized into good functional outcome (90-day modified Rankin Scale score, 0-2) and poor functional outcome (90-day modified Rankin Scale score, 3-6) for logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic analysis. P ≤0.05 was considered significant. In total, 229 patients met our inclusion criteria. The majority of the patients (n=161) in our cohort had M1 occlusion. All the rCBV thresholds were significantly higher in patients with poor 90-day functional outcomes and were independently associated with the outcome. Spearman's rank correlation analysis revealed a slightly stronger correlation of rCBV <42% (ρ=0.27, P <0.001), as compared with rCBV <38% (ρ=0.25, P <0.001) and rCBV <34% (ρ=0.24, P <0.001) with functional outcome. Receiver operating characteristic analysis revealed that rCBV <42% (area under the curve, 0.67 [95% CI, 0.60-0.74]; P <0.001) performed marginally better than rCBV <38% (area under the curve, 0.66 [95% CI, 0.59-0.73]; P <0.001), and rCBV <34% (area under the curve, 0.65 [95% CI, 0.58-0.72]; P <0.001)., Conclusions: All the rCBV thresholds were independently associated with poor 90-day functional outcome; however, the rCBV <42% marginally outperformed rCBV <38% and rCBV <34% lesion volumes.

Background and Aim: Recent studies have shown that the CT Perfusion (CTP) parameter of rCBV < 42 % lesion volume can predict 90-day functional outcomes in stroke patients. However, its correlation with discharge outcomes, including functional dependence, has not been investigated. Our study aims to evaluate the relationship between rCBV < 42 % and poor functional outcomes at discharge, defined as a modified Rankin score (mRS) of 3 or higher., Materials and Methods: This retrospective study analyzed patients with confirmed occlusion on CT angiography, who also received CT perfusion between 9/1/2017 and 10/01/2023. Statistical tests (Student's T, Mann-Whitney U, and Chi-Square) were used to assess differences. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed to evaluate the associations of rCBV < 42 % with discharge mRS. A p-value ≤ 0.05 was considered significant., Results: A total of 268 patients [median age: 68 years (IQR: 59-77), 56.3 % female] met the inclusion criteria. Among them, 85 patients (31.7 %) received intravenous thrombolysis (IVT), and 221 patients (82.5 %) underwent mechanical thrombectomy (MT). After adjusting for various variables, logistic regression analysis indicated that rCBV < 42 % lesion volume was associated with poor functional outcomes at discharge (aOR = 0.97, p < 0.05). Objectives: The variation in quality and quantity of collateral status (CS) is in part responsible for a wide variability in extent of neural damage following acute ischemic stroke from large vessel occlusion (AIS-LVO). Single-phase CTA based clot burden score (CBS) is a promising marker in estimating CS. The aim of this study is to assess the relationship of pretreatment CTA based CBS with the reference standard Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) based American Society of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology (ASITN) CS., Methods: In this retrospective study, inclusion criteria were as follows: (1) Anterior circulation LVO confirmed on CTA from January 9, 2017 to January 10, 2023; (2) diagnostic CTA; and (3) underwent mechanical thrombectomy with documented DSA CS. Spearman's rank correlation analysis, multivariate logistic regression and ROC analysis was performed to assess the correlation of CTA CBS with DSA CS. P ≤ .05 was considered significant., Results: 292 consecutive patients (median age = 68 years; 56.2% female) met our inclusion criteria. CTA CBS and DSA CS showed significant positive correlation (ρ = 0.51, P < .001). On multivariate logistic regression analysis CBS was found to be independently associated with DSA CS (adjusted OR = 1.83, P < .001, 95% CI: 1.54-2.19), after adjusting for age, sex, race, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, diabetes, prior stroke or transient ischemic attack, atrial fibrillation, premorbid mRS, admission NIH stroke scale, and ASPECTS. ROC analysis of CBS in predicting good DSA CS showed AUC of 0.76 (P < .001; 95% CI: 0.68-0.82). CBS threshold of > 6 has 84.6% sensitivity and 42.3% specificity in predicting good DSA CS., Conclusion: CTA CBS is independently associated with DSA CS and serves as a valuable supplementary tool for CS estimation. Background and Purpose: Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is the treatment standard for large vessel occlusion (LVO) stroke. Under current guidelines, only patients with smaller ischemic core volumes (ICV) are eligible for MT. Thus, it is of interest to quickly estimate ICV in stroke patients. The Los Angeles Motor Scale (LAMS) is a validated tool used to assess stroke severity directly in the field. This study aims to determine whether LAMS score is also associated with ICV, as defined by the CBF <30% volume on CT perfusion imaging., Methods: We performed a retrospective, multicenter cohort study of consecutive patients presenting with LVO stroke from 9/1/2017 to 10/1/2023. The inclusion criteria were patients with (1) stroke caused by large vessel occlusion confirmed on CTA and (2) diagnostically adequate, multimodal pretreatment CT imaging. Demographic, clinical, and imaging data was collected through manual chart review. Both univariate and multivariate analyses were applied to assess associations. A p -value <.05 was considered significant., Results: A total of 283 patients (median age: 69, IQR: 61-78) were included in the study. On multivariate logistic regression analysis, we found that lower admission LAMS score (adjusted OR: 0.511, 95% CI: 0.313-0.834, p = .007) was independently associated with a CBF <30% volume of less than 50cc., Conclusions: Admission LAMS is an independent predictor of a CBF <30% volume of less than 50cc. Background: The relative level of functional impairment in stroke patients is a significant determinant of post-acute care. The Activity Measure for Post Acute Care 6-Clicks (AM-PAC) scores for basic mobility and daily activity are rapid standardized assessments whose utilities in predicting long-term stroke outcomes have not yet been studied. Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of acute ischemic stroke patients and their outcomes. We evaluated the distribution of outcomes using the chi-square test. We then compared the proportions of patients with good stroke outcomes for different combinations of favorable scores. We performed two-proportion z-tests to determine the significance, and p < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: 282 patients met all of the inclusion criteria between 12 January 2017 and 19 March 2023 ( M age = 66.4, 59.9% female). After dichotomizing the scores as "favorable" vs. "unfavorable", we found that 128/155 (82.6%) patients with favorable basic mobility had good stroke outcomes vs. 20/127 (15.7%) with unfavorable basic mobility ( p < 0.0001). Similarly, for favorable daily activity, it was 103/113 (91.2%) vs. 45/169 (26.6%), for both favorable, it was 100/109 (91.7%) vs. 48/173 (27.7%), and for neither favorable, it was 17/123 (13.8%) vs. 131/159 (82.4%), all with p < 0.0001. When comparing among groups, both favorable patients differed significantly from those with favorable basic mobility alone ( p = 0.033) but not those with favorable daily activity alone ( p = 0.875). Even after adjusting for age, the odds ratios of favorable scores were greater than 20 for any combination ( p < 0.001). Conclusions: Basic mobility and daily activity AM-PAC scores at discharge are independent predictors of anterior circulation acute ischemic stroke outcomes at 90 days.

Purpose of Review: To describe patient experiences of transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) and review recent advances in enhancing clinical outcomes., Recent Findings: High rates of recurrence and progression of non-muscle invasive bladder tumors expose patients to multiple TURBT procedures throughout their disease process. Understanding the impact of TURBT on quality of life and patient experiences is crucial for shared decision-making, thus enhanced recovery protocol trials are being explored to improve patient outcomes. The variability in TURBT practices worldwide contributes to differing bladder tumor recurrence rates, prompting efforts to standardize practices by evaluating the impact of patient, hospital, and surgeon factors. For select cases, less intensive surveillance regimens have reduced toxicities and costs without compromising oncologic outcomes. New innovative approaches such as en bloc- and stratified resection techniques may reduce perioperative complications and improve clinical outcomes. Finally, neoadjuvant and ablative treatments have shown to be promising alternatives to TURBT, necessitating further investigation in this setting. TURBT is essential for diagnosing and treating bladder cancer. Reducing associated morbidities and improving surgical outcomes involve multifaceted approaches, including standardizing surgical practices, exploring innovative techniques, and optimizing surveillance regimens, all while promoting patient quality of life. Background: Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) is the treatment standard in eligible patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) secondary to large vessel occlusions (LVO). Studies have shown that good collateral status is a strong predictor of MT efficacy, thus making collateral status important to quickly assess. The Los Angeles Motor Scale is a clinically validated tool for identifying LVO in the field. The aim of this study is to investigate whether admission LAMS score is also associated with the American Society of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology (ASITN) collateral score on digital subtraction angiography (DSA)., Methods: We conducted a retrospective multicenter cohort study of consecutive patients presenting with AIS caused by LVO from 9/1/2017 to 10/1/2023 with diagnostically adequate DSA imaging. Demographic, clinical, and imaging data was collected through manual chart review. Both univariate and multivariate analysis were applied to assess associations. A p -value <0.05 was considered significant., Results: A total of 308 patients (median age: 68, IQR: 57.5-77) were included in the study. On multivariate logistic regression analysis, we found that lower admission LAMS score (adjusted OR: 0.82, 95% CI: 0.68-0.98, p  < 0.05) and higher ASPECTS score (adjusted OR: 1.21, 95% CI: 1.02-1.42, p  < 0.05) were independently associated with good DSA ASITN collateral score of 3-4., Conclusions: Admission LAMS and ASPECTS score are both independently associated with DSA ASITN collateral score. This demonstrates the capability of LAMS to act as a surrogate marker of CS in the field.

A series of new benzylideneiminophenylthiazole analogues were designed and synthesized. Common spectroscopic methods, such as FT-IR, 1 H-, 13 C-NMR, and MASS spectra, and elemental analysis, were used to confirm the molecular structures. Then, the antioxidant, cytotoxicity, and anti-bacterial effects of synthesized analogues were assessed against 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), three cancer cell lines, and two bacterial strains, respectively. Among the analogues, 7f was detected as the most potent compound for antioxidant activity. Moreover, the compounds 7b, 7f, and 7 g exhibited the maximum cytotoxicity activity against MCF-7, HepG-2, and A549 cell lines, respectively. Finally, 7e showed the highest anti-bacterial activity against both S. aureus and E. coli strains. It was concluded from the antioxidant, cytotoxicity, and anti-bacterial effects that the benzylideneiminophenylthiazoles might serve as candidate molecules for the development of small molecules with medicinal potential., (© 2024. Background: Collateral status (CS) plays a crucial role in infarct growth rate, risk of postthrombectomy hemorrhage, and overall clinical outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) secondary to anterior circulation large-vessel occlusions (LVOs). Hypoperfusion intensity ratio has been previously validated as an indirect noninvasive pretreatment imaging biomarker of CS. In addition to imaging, derangements in admission laboratory findings can also influence outcomes in patients with AIS-LVO. Therefore, our study aims to assess the relationship between admission laboratory findings, baseline characteristics, and CS, as assessed by hypoperfusion intensity ratio in patients with AIS-LVO., Methods and Results: In this retrospective study, consecutive patients presenting with AIS secondary to anterior circulation LVO who underwent pretreatment computed tomography perfusion were included. The computed tomography perfusion data processed by RAPID (Ischema View, Menlo Park, CA) generated the hypoperfusion intensity ratio. Binary logistic regression models were used to assess the relationship between patients' baseline characteristics, admission laboratory findings, and poor CS. A total of 221 consecutive patients with AIS-LVO between January 2017 and September 2022 were included in our study (mean±SD age, 67.0±15.8 years; 119 men [53.8%]). Multivariable logistic regression showed that patients with AIS caused by cardioembolic and cryptogenic causes (adjusted odds ratio [OR], 2.67; 95% CI, 1.20-5.97; P =0.016), those who presented with admission National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score ≥12 (adjusted OR, 3.12; 95% CI, 1.61-6.04; P =0.001), and male patients (adjusted OR, 2.06; 95% CI, 1.13-3.77; P =0.018) were associated with poor CS., Conclusions: Stroke caused by cardioembolic or cryptogenic causes, admission National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score of ≥12, and male sex were associated with poor CS, as defined by hypoperfusion intensity ratio in the patients with AIS-LVO.

One of the multifactorial worldwide health syndromes is diabetes mellitus which is increasing at a disturbing rate. The inhibition of α-glucosidase, an enzyme that catalyzes starch hydrolysis in the intestine, is one helpful therapeutic approach for controlling hyperglycemia related to type-2 diabetes. To discover α-glucosidase inhibitors, some 2-hydrazolyl-4-thiazolidinone hybrids ( 3a-e ) were synthesized from new one-pot reaction procedures. Next, their chemical structures were confirmed by 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, and FT-IR spectra, and elemental analysis technique. Then, the α-glucosidase inhibitory activity of the titled compounds was evaluated. Among them, derivatives 3b and 3c revealed the highest activity against α-glucosidase compared to acarbose as a drug. Enzyme kinetic studies of the most active derivative ( 3b ) indicated a competitive inhibition. Background: Collateral status (CS) is an important biomarker of functional outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke secondary to large vessel occlusion (AIS-LVO). Pretreatment CT perfusion (CTP) parameters serve as reliable surrogates of collateral status (CS). In this study, we aim to assess the relationship between the relative cerebral blood flow less than 38% (rCBF <38%), with the reference standard American Society of Interventional and Therapeutic Neuroradiology (ASITN) collateral score (CS) on DSA., Methods: In this prospectively collected, retrospectively reviewed analysis, inclusion criteria were as follows: (a) CT angiography (CTA) confirmed anterior circulation large vessel occlusion from 9/1/2017 to 10/01/2023; (b) diagnostic CT perfusion; and (c) underwent mechanical thrombectomy with documented ASITN CS. The ratios of the CTP-derived CBF values were calculated by dividing the values of the ischemic lesion by the corresponding values of the contralateral normal region (which were defined as rCBF). Spearman's rank correlation and logistic regression analysis were performed to determine the relationship of rCBF <38% lesion volume with DSA ASITN CS. p ≤ .05 was considered significant., Results: In total, 223 patients [mean age: 67.77 ± 15.76 years, 56.1% ( n = 125) female] met our inclusion criteria. Significant negative correlation was noted between rCBF <38% volume and DSA CS (ρ = -0.37, p < .001). On multivariate logistic regression analysis, rCBF <38% volume was found to be independently associated with worse ASITN CS (unadjusted OR: 3.03, 95% CI: 1.60-5.69, p < .001, and adjusted OR: 2.73, 95% CI: 1.34-5.50, p < .01)., Conclusion: Greater volume of tissue with rCBF <38% is independently associated with better DSA CS. rCBF <38% is a useful adjunct tool in collateralization-based prognostication. Background and Aim: The Los Angeles Motor Scale (LAMS) is an objective tool that has been used to rapidly assess and predict the presence of large vessel occlusion (LVO) in the pre-hospital setting successfully in several studies. This study explores nitrate reduction in aqueous solutions using carboxymethyl cellulose loaded with zero-valent iron nanoparticles (Fe 0 -CMC). The structures of this nano-composite were characterized using various techniques. Based on the characterization results, the specific surface area of Fe 0 -CMC measured by the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis were 39.6 m 2 /g. In addition, Scanning Electron Microscopy images displayed that spherical nano zero-valent iron particles (nZVI) with an average particle diameter of 80 nm are surrounded by carboxymethyl cellulose and no noticeable aggregates were detected. Batch experiments assessed Fe 0 -CMC's effectiveness in nitrate removal under diverse conditions including different adsorbent dosages (C s , 2-10 mg/L), contact time (t, 10-1440 min), initial pH (pH i , 2-10), temperature (T, 10-55 °C), and initial concentration of nitrate (C 0 , 10-500 mg/L). Results indicated decreased removal with higher initial pHi and C 0 , while increased Cs and T enhanced removal. The study of nitrate removal mechanism by Fe 0 -CMC revealed that the redox reaction between immobilized nZVI on the CMC surface and nitrate ions was responsible for nitrate removal, and the main product of this reaction was ammonium, which was subsequently completely removed by the synthesized nanocomposite. In addition, a stable deviation quantum particle swarm optimization algorithm (SD-QPSO) and a least square error method were employed to train the ANFIS parameters. To demonstrate model performance, a quadratic polynomial function was proposed to display the performance of the SD-QPSO algorithm in which the constant parameters were optimized through the SD-QPSO algorithm. Sensitivity analysis was conducted on the proposed quadratic polynomial function by adding a constant deviation and removing each input using two different strategies. According to the sensitivity analysis, the predicted removal efficiency was most sensitive to changes in pH i , followed by C s , T, C 0 , and t. The obtained results underscore the potential of the ANFIS model (R 2  = 0.99803, RMSE = 0.9888), and polynomial function (R 2  = 0.998256, RMSE = 1.7532) as accurate and efficient alternatives to time-consuming laboratory measurements for assessing nitrate removal efficiency. Stilbenes are a small family of polyphenolic secondary metabolites produced in a variety of closely related plant species. These compounds function as phytoalexins, aiding plant defense against phytopathogens and plants' adaptation to abiotic environmental factors. Structurally, some important phenolic compounds have a 14-carbon skeleton and usually have two isomeric forms, Z and E . Stilbenes contain two benzene rings linked by a molecule of ethanol or ethylene. Some derivatives of natural (poly)phenolic stilbenes such as resveratrol, pterostilbene, and combretastatin A-4 have shown various biological activities, such as anti-microbial, anti-cancer, and anti-inflammatory properties as well as protection against heart disease, Alzheimer's disease, and diabetes. Among stilbenes, resveratrol is certainly the most popular and extensively studied for its health properties. In recent years, an increasing number of stilbene compounds have been investigated for their bioactivity. This review focuses on the assessment of synthetic stilbene derivatives in terms of their biological activities and structure-activity relationship. The field of chemical toxicity testing is undergoing a transition to overcome the limitations of in vivo experiments. This evolution involves implementing innovative non-animal approaches to improve predictability and provide a more precise understanding of toxicity mechanisms. Adverse outcome pathway (AOP) networks are pivotal in organizing existing mechanistic knowledge related to toxicological processes. However, these AOP networks are dynamic and require regular updates to incorporate the latest data. Regulatory challenges also persist due to concerns about the reliability of the information they offer. This study introduces a generic Weight-of-Evidence (WoE) scoring method, aligned with the tailored Bradford-Hill criteria, to quantitatively assess the confidence levels in key event relationships (KERs) within AOP networks. We use the previously published AOP network on chemical-induced liver steatosis, a prevalent form of human liver injury, as a case study. Initially, the existing AOP network is optimized with the latest scientific information extracted from PubMed using the free SysRev platform for artificial intelligence (AI)-based abstract inclusion and standardized data collection. The resulting optimized AOP network, constructed using Cytoscape, visually represents confidence levels through node size (key event, KE) and edge thickness (KERs). Additionally, a Shiny application is developed to facilitate user interaction with the dataset, promoting future updates. Our analysis of 173 research papers yielded 100 unique KEs and 221 KERs among which 72 KEs and 170 KERs, respectively, have not been previously documented in the prior AOP network or AOP-wiki. Notably, modifications in de novo lipogenesis, fatty acid uptake and mitochondrial beta-oxidation, leading to lipid accumulation and liver steatosis, garnered the highest KER confidence scores. In conclusion, our study delivers a generic methodology for developing and assessing AOP networks. The quantitative WoE scoring method facilitates in determining the level of support for KERs within the optimized AOP network, offering valuable insights into its utility in both scientific research and regulatory contexts. The novel hybrids with 1,2,3-triazole and polyhydroquinoline scaffolds were successfully synthesized by multicomponent reaction of propargyloxybenzaldehyde, 1,3-cyclohexadione, ethylacetoacetate and ammonium acetate followed through click reaction in the presence of deep eutectic solvent ChCl/ZnCl 2 as an efficient catalyst. Their anti-leishmanial activity was evaluated against amastigote and promastigote forms of L. tropica , L. major, and two different species of L. infantum . Furthermore, to determine the cytotoxicity of the hybrids, they were evaluated against the murine macrophage cell line J 774.A1 . Based on the results, three hybrids showed the highest antileishmanial activity. However, they revealed low cytotoxicity. Hybrid 6j was the most potent compound against both the forms of all leishmanial types, with IC 50 = 13.5 and 11.9 µg/mL for L. major , 37.5 and 25 µg/mL for L. tropica , 17.5 and 20 µg/mL for L. infantum (MCAN/IR//96/LON49) and 35.5 and 30 µg/mL for L. infantum (MCAN/ES/98/LIM-877) , respectively. Adult neurotoxicity (ANT) and developmental neurotoxicity (DNT) assessments aim to understand the adverse effects and underlying mechanisms of toxicants on the human nervous system. In recent years, there has been an increasing focus on the so-called new approach methodologies (NAMs). The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), together with European and American regulatory agencies, promote the use of validated alternative test systems, but to date, guidelines for regulatory DNT and ANT assessment rely primarily on classical animal testing. Alternative methods include both non-animal approaches and test systems on non-vertebrates (e.g., nematodes) or non-mammals (e.g., fish). Therefore, this review summarizes the recent advances of NAMs focusing on ANT and DNT and highlights the potential and current critical issues for the full implementation of these methods in the future. The status of the DNT in vitro battery (DNT IVB) is also reviewed as a first step of NAMs for the assessment of neurotoxicity in the regulatory context. Critical issues such as (i) the need for test batteries and method integration (from in silico and in vitro to in vivo alternatives, e.g., zebrafish, C. elegans) requiring interdisciplinarity to manage complexity, (ii) interlaboratory transferability, and (iii) the urgent need for method validation are discussed., (© 2024. Pretreatment CT Perfusion (CTP) parameter rCBV < 42% lesion volume has recently been shown to predict 90-day mRS. In this study, we aim to assess the relationship between rCBV < 42% and a radiographic follow-up infarct volume delineated on FLAIR images. In this retrospective evaluation of our prospectively collected database, we included acute stroke patients triaged by multimodal CT imaging, including CT angiography and perfusion imaging, with confirmed anterior circulation large vessel occlusion between 9 January 2017 and 10 January 2023. Follow-up FLAIR imaging was used to determine the final infarct volume. Student t, Mann-Whitney-U, and Chi-Square tests were used to assess differences. Spearman's rank correlation and linear regression analysis were used to assess associations between rCBV < 42% and follow-up infarct volume on FLAIR. In total, 158 patients (median age: 68 years, 52.5% female) met our inclusion criteria. rCBV < 42% (ρ = 0.56, p < 0.001) significantly correlated with follow-up-FLAIR infarct volume. On multivariable linear regression analysis, rCBV < 42% lesion volume (beta = 0.60, p < 0.001), ASPECTS (beta = -0.214, p < 0.01), mTICI (beta = -0.277, p < 0.001), and diabetes (beta = 0.16, p < 0.05) were independently associated with follow-up infarct volume. The rCBV < 42% lesion volume is independently associated with FLAIR follow-up infarct volume.

Ischemic stroke poses a significant global health challenge, necessitating ongoing exploration of its pathophysiology and treatment strategies. This comprehensive review integrates various aspects of ischemic stroke research, emphasizing crucial mechanisms, therapeutic approaches, and the role of clinical imaging in disease management. It discusses the multifaceted role of Netrin-1, highlighting its potential in promoting neurovascular repair and mitigating post-stroke neurological decline. It also examines the impact of blood-brain barrier permeability on stroke outcomes and explores alternative therapeutic targets such as statins and sphingosine-1-phosphate signaling. Neurocardiology investigations underscore the contribution of cardiac factors to post-stroke mortality, emphasizing the importance of understanding the brain-heart axis for targeted interventions. Additionally, the review advocates for early reperfusion and neuroprotective agents to counter-time-dependent excitotoxicity and inflammation, aiming to preserve tissue viability. Advanced imaging techniques, including DWI, PI, and MR angiography, are discussed for their role in evaluating ischemic penumbra evolution and guiding therapeutic decisions. By integrating molecular insights with imaging modalities, this interdisciplinary approach enhances our understanding of ischemic stroke and offers promising avenues for future research and clinical interventions to improve patient outcomes.

Chronic inflammatory pathway activation, commonly referred to as "Inflammaging" or chronic inflammation (CI), is associated with frailty, cognitive and functional decline, and other causes of health span decline in older adults. We investigated the variability of candidate serum measures of CI among community-dwelling older adults selected for mild low-grade inflammation. We focused on serum cytokines known to be highly predictive of adverse health outcomes in older adults (sTNFR1, IL-6) during a short-term (weeks) and medium-term (months) follow-up, as well as immune markers that are less studied in aging but reflect other potentially relevant domains such as adaptive immune activation (sCD25), innate immune activation (sCD14 and sCD163), and the inflammation-metabolism interface (adiponectin/Acrp30) during short-term (weeks) follow up. We found that sTNFR1 was more reproducible than IL-6 over a period of weeks and months short-term and medium-term. The intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) for sTNFR1 was 0.95 on repeated measures over 6 weeks, and 0.79 on repeated measures with mean interval of 14 weeks, while the ICC for IL-6 was 0.52 over corresponding short-term and 0.67 over corresponding medium-term follow-up. This suggests that sTNFR1 is a more reliable marker of CI than IL-6. This study provides new insights into the reproducibility of serum markers of CI in older adults. The findings suggest that sTNFR1 may be a better marker of CI than IL-6 in this population. Group differences were assessed using the Student's t test, Mann-Whitney U test and Chi-Square test. Spearman's rank correlation and logistic regression analyses were used to assess associations between rCBV < 42% and DSA CS. Results: In total, 222 patients (median age: 69 years, 56.3% female) met our inclusion criteria. In the multivariable logistic regression analysis, taking into account age, sex, race, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, atrial fibrillation, prior stroke or transient ischemic attack, the admission National Institute of Health stroke scale, the premorbid modified Rankin score, the Alberta stroke program early CT score (ASPECTS), and segment occlusion, the rCBV < 42% lesion volume (adjusted OR: 0.98, p < 0.05) was independently associated with the DSA CS. Conclusion: The rCBV < 42% lesion volume is independently associated with the DSA CS.

Objectives: This review study aimed to evaluate the impact of therapeutic exercises on Upper-Crossed Syndrome (UCS). The study utilized a systematic review and meta-analysis approach to investigate the effects of various therapeutic exercises on forward head posture, rounded shoulders, and hyperkyphosis associated with upper crossed syndrome., Methods: The study identified relevant keywords for each independent and dependent variable and conducted a search in scientific databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar, without any time limitations until 12 August 2023. Overall, 4625 articles were found in the selected databases, which were reduced to 1085 after being entered into the EndNote software and removing duplicate data. The full texts of 30 remaining studies were reviewed; ten articles meeting the criteria were included. Additionally, 12 studies from the Google Scholar database were included, resulting in 22 studies. Using Comprehensive meta-analysis software (CMA ver 3), data heterogeneity was measured with I 2 and the Q tests. The Funnel Plot and Egger test methods were utilized to determine the possibility of publication bias. The JBI checklist was used to assess the quality of the studies., Results: The results of the meta-analysis showed that therapeutic exercises were effective in improving forward head, rounded shoulders, and thoracic kyphosis angles (CI 95% = -1.85-1.161, P = 0.001, P = 0.001, CI95%=-1.822-1.15, and P = 0.001, CI 95%= -1.83-1.09, respectively)., Conclusion: Based on the results, it appears that performing therapeutic exercises in the form of strength exercises, stretching, shoulder-based exercises, and incredibly comprehensive exercises that target all muscles may be effective in reducing forward head, rounded shoulders, thoracic kyphosis, and overall UCS., (© 2024. Water consumption management and the application of advanced techniques in the agricultural sector can significantly contribute to the efficient utilization of limited water resources. This can be achieved by improving soil texture, increasing water retention, reducing erosion, and enhancing seedling germination through the use of superabsorbent polymers. This study aimed to investigate the effect of Aquasource superabsorbent (AS) on the morphological characteristics, phytochemical properties, antioxidant content, and water use efficiency of peppermint. It was conducted under different irrigation management and using different superabsorbent levels. Therefore, a 3 × 4 factorial design was used to determine the effects of irrigation intervals (2-, 4-, and 6-day) and different levels of AS amount (zero [control], 0.5, 1, and 2 wt%). The effects of these factors on various parameters (morphological characteristics, essential oil percentage, nutrient, protein, proline, carotenoid, antioxidant, and chlorophyll content, leaf area index, relative water content, and water use efficiency [WUE]) were evaluated. The results showed that morphological characteristics and essential oil percentage decreased significantly under drought stress (increasing the irrigation intervals). However, the addition of 0.5 (wt%) AS improved plant growth conditions. Increasing the amount of superabsorbent used to 1 and 2 (wt%) decreased the measured traits, which indicates the creation of unsuitable conditions for plant growth. AS application improved the growth of the root more than the leaf yield of peppermint. A 0.5 (wt%) addition of AS resulted in root length increases of 3, 13, and 15%, respectively, at irrigation intervals of 2, 4, and 6 days, respectively. Additionally, at 0.5 (wt%) AS, root weight increased by 8, 15, and 16% in 2-, 4-, and 6-day irrigation intervals, respectively. Also, the height of the plant increased by 3, 5, and 17% at 2-, 4-, and 6-day irrigation intervals when 0.5 (wt%) of AS was used compared to the control. As well, essential oil percentage increased by 2.14, 2.06, and 1.63% at 2-, 4-, and 6-day irrigation intervals. The nutrient and protein contents decreased as irrigation intervals and AS usage increased, indicating a similar trend. However, compared with the control, the addition of 0.5 (wt%) of AS resulted in some improvements in nutrients and protein. The highest WUE (3.075 kg m -3 ) was attained in the 4-day irrigation interval and 1 wt% AS addition. This was followed closely by the 2-day irrigation interval with 1 wt% AS addition at 3.025 kg m -3 , and the 4-day irrigation interval with 0.5 wt% AS addition, which reached 2.941 kg m -3 . Overall, the use of AS in appropriate amounts (0.5 wt%) can reduce water consumption and enhance essential oil yield and WUE in peppermint cultivation in water-scarce arid and semi-arid regions., (© 2023. Leishmaniasis includes a range of parasitic diseases caused by numerous types of the protozoan kinetoplastid parasite. Fungal and bacterial pathogens have led to infectious illnesses causing some main public health problem in current years. A series of dihydropyridine and tetrahydropyrimidine derivatives having fluoro, bromo, and nitro substituents at para-phenyl ring on C4 of dihydropyridine and tetrahydropyrimidine rings were synthesized. Then, anti-leishmanial and antimicrobial potencies of compounds were assessed. All compounds were synthesized via Hantzsch and Biginelli reactions. All derivatives were evaluated for their anti-leishmanial and antimicrobial activities. Moreover, docking and molecular dynamics simulation calculations of the compounds in PRT1 binding site were performed to report the results of anti-leishmanial and antimicrobial activities. Compounds 4a and 4b showed the highest anti-amastigote and anti-promastigote activities. Compound 4a revealed the highest antimicrobial activity against E. coli, P. aeruginosa, and C. albicans strains. In addition, compound 4c showed the highest activity against S. aureus. The fluoro, bromo, and nitro substituents in para-position of phenyl group at C4 of dihydropyridine and tetrahydropyrimidine moieties as well as the bulk and length of the chain linking to the ester moieties are essential for anti-leishmanial and anti-microbial activities of these derivatives. Low cytotoxicity was shown by most of derivatives against macrophages. The molecular docking studies were in agreement with in vitro assay. Moreover, hydrogen binds, RMSF, RMSD, and Rg, strongly showed the steady binding of 4a and 4b compounds in PRT1 active site., (© 2022.
