Objectives:We aimed to evaluate the effect of radiofrequency energy on mucociliary transport applied to inferior turbinate hypertrophy that occurred by compensation due to septal deviation. Methods:Fourteen patients were selected (8 female, 6 male; age range 19-56 years) who underwent septoplasty for septal deviation and radiofrequency treatment for compensatory inferior turbinate hypertrophy between January 2005 and October 2005. Postoperative 3 months mucociliary transport function was evaluated by saccharine transit time test. Results:Saccharine transit time results were not statistically different between groups (p>0.05).Conclusion:Radiofrequency treatment should be considered one of the succesful methods for reduction of inferior turbinate.
