Objectives:Cardio-renal syndrome type 1 (CRS1) complicates 40% of patients hospitalized for acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) and is associated with poor prognosis. Factors associated with the development and recovery of CRS1 have not been completely understood, and the value of cystatin C in this context has not been studied.Materials and Methods:We evaluated the predictive value of cystatin C levels at admission and 24thhour and deltacystatin C (cystatin C change in the first 24 hours of admission) in the development and reversibility of CRS1 in patients hospitalized for ADHF. One hundred ten consecutive patients hospitalized for ADHF were enrolled.Results:Admission cystatin C [odds ratio (OR): 30.97, confidence interval (CI): 9.28-139.60, pConclusion:This study demonstrated the potential value of cystatin C and delta-cystatin C in CRS1. Further studies are required to determine the clinical utility of these findings.

Background: Resolvin D1 (RvD1) can play a determining role in inflammatory cell migration and reduce the expression of inflammatory cytokines to enhance cardioprotection. The aim of this study was to compare serum RvD1 levels in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and individuals with normal coronary arteries (NCAs) and to evaluate the association between serum RvD1 levels and prognostic markers of STEMI. Methods: 140 subjects (88 patients diagnosed with the indication of STEMI and 52 healthy individuals with NCA) were studied. Results: Regression analysis revealed that RvD1 levels were independently associated with STEMI. While RvD1 levels were negatively correlated with high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, pro-brain natriuretic peptide, peak troponin, and Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction thrombus grade, they were positively correlated with left ventricular ejection fraction. An RvD1 cut-off value of 5.07 (ng/mL) was effective in predicting STEMI with a sensitivity of 79.5% and specificity of 96.2%. Conclusion: Serum RvD1 levels were found to be lower in the group with STEMI compared to the control group. Levels of RvD1 at admission were associated with poor prognostic markers of STEMI.

Aim: MFG-E8 (milk fat globule-epidermal growth factor 8, also known as lactaderin) plays an important role in many adverse clinical conditions such as atherosclerosis, angiogenesis, ischemia/reperfusion injury and cancers. The present study aims to investigate the association of serum MFG-E8 levels at admission with the severity of coronary artery disease (CAD) in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Material and Methods: A total of 88 patients were enrolled into the study. Patients were divided into two groups according to SYNTAX score as low SYNTAX score 0.05). However, there was a moderate and negative correlation between MFG-E8 levels and Thrombolysis In Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) risk score (r = -0.365, p = 0.001). A slightly negative association between serum uric acid level and MFG-E8 was also determined ( r = -0.232, p = 0.03). In addition, diabetes mellitus (p = 0.031), monocyte to HDL ratio (p = 0.049), TIMI risk score (p = 0.004) and SYNTAX II (p = 0.012) score were significantly higher in the high SYNTAX group with a significantly lower LVEF (p = 0.014). Conclusion: The serum levels of MFG-E8 were not found to be correlated with the SYNTAX score, an indicator of worsening clinical cardiovascular event risk and the severity of coronary artery stenosis. However, MFG-E8 levels were found to be correlated with TIMI risk score, which is one of the most commonly used risk stratification model for patients presenting with non-ST segment elevation miyocardial infarction (NSTEMI)., Amaç: MFG-E8 (süt yağı globül-epidermal büyüme faktörü 8, laktaderin olarak da bilinir) ateroskleroz, anjiyogenez, iskemi/reperfüzyon hasarı ve kanserler gibi birçok olumsuz klinik durumda önemli rol oynamaktadır. Bu çalışmada, akut koroner sendrom (ACS) hastalarında başvuru sırasında serum MFG-E8 düzeyinin koroner arter hastalığı (CAD) ciddiyeti ile ilişkisini araştırmayı amaçladık. Ancak, NSTEMI ile başvuran hastalarda en sık kullanılan risk sınıflandırma modellerinden biri olan TIMI risk skoru ile serum MFG-E8 seviyeleri arasında negatif ilişki bulunmaktadır.

This study evaluated the association between no-reflow (NR) and serum uric acid/albumin ratio (UAR) in 360 consecutive patients with non-ST-elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention. The study population was divided into two groups as follows: reflow (n = 310) and NR (n = 50) group. The thrombolysis in myocardial infarction (TIMI) flow score was used to describe NR. High UAR (Odds Ratio: 3.495, 95% CI; 1.216–10.048; P < .001) was found to be an independent predictor of NR. Additionally, UAR was positively correlated with the SYNTAX score and neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio; UAR was negatively correlated with left ventricular ejection fraction. The highest cut-off ratio of UAR predicting NR was found to be 1.35 with 68% sensitivity and 66.8% specificity. The area under the curve (AUC) for UAR was .768 (95% CI: .690-.847) after receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve assessment. The AUC for UAR was found to be higher than for its components: serum uric acid (AUC: .655) and albumin (AUC: .663) ( P < .001 for each evaluation).
