Objective: To describe the characteristics of asthma consultations provided in Peruvian emergency departments during 2021. Materials and methods: A descriptive study using secondary sources was conducted. The source of information was the open-access dataset "Morbilidad en Emergencia Hospitalaria" (Morbidity in Hospital Emergency Departments), prepared by the Ministry of Health (MINSA) and available on the Plataforma Nacional de Datos Abiertos (National Open Data Platform). A total of 4,338 consultations for patients with a definitive diagnosis of asthma treated in MINSA emergency departments were included. The evaluated characteristics were age, sex, diagnosis according to the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10), level of care and month of consultation. In addition, patients with five or more consultations were identified to describe their emergency department use pattern, and the intensity of use for the entire sample was calculated. Descriptive statistics were performed using the free spreadsheet Jamovi 2.3.26, with absolute frequencies and percentages for the variables. Results: The consultations were predominantly concentrated in the 27 to 59 age group (56.71 %), female patients (61.80 %), the diagnosis "Asthma, unspecified" (84.21 %) and severity level I (59.78 %). An upward trend was observed from February, resulting in 560 consultations by the end of the year in December. A total of 2,988 patients had one consultation, while 41 patients had five or more consultations, with the maximum number of consultations for a single patient reaching 32. The overall intensity of use accounted for 1.25. Conclusions: In 2021, starting in February, there was an increase in the number of consultations for patients with a definitive diagnosis of asthma in MINSA emergency departments. Foundation: the medical emergencies integrated system has the purpose of improving the care quality for patients receiving emergency medical services.Objective: to describe the Integrated System of Medical Emergencies’ work results.Methods: descriptive, cross-sectional study, carried out between September 2021 and September 2022 in the Cienfuegos province, about the emergency system operation. The analyzed variables were: conditions and most frequent causes of transfer through the system; days and hours in which the services are requested.Results: acute respiratory diseases were the ones that most caused transfers. Among the chronic non-communicable diseases, acute myocardial infarction, acute coronary syndrome and cerebrovascular disease were the diseases, in ascending order, that most caused requests for medical transfers; Tuesday the day with the most requests.Conclusions: respiratory diseases cause a high number of requests for transfer to medical emergencies, followed by chronic non-communicable diseases.

OBJECTIVE: Identify the frequency of SA cases treated in the emergency department by temporality (in the last five years) and describe the possible risk factors and possible triggers, some characteristics of the SA, and the request for care. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An observational, retrospective, and descriptive medical records review study from 2018 to 2023. RESULTS: 296 records with the diagnosis of SA were reviewed. 74% were women, 56% were late adolescents, 43% were early adolescents, and 1% were children. Every month, with the exception of January, there is an increase in cases treated by SA during the pandemic. The main risk factors and triggers were: interpersonal conflicts (64.19%), social stress (57.43%), exacerbation of a previous mental health disorder (56.08%), a history of previous IS (48.31%), parental divorce (31.42%) and experiencing different forms of violence [psychological (28.33%), sexual (18.92%) and peer violence (16.55%)]. The hours for requesting care were mainly concentrated in the evening and night shifts (79.39%). CONCLUSIONS: During the pandemic, there was an increase in the number of cases treated for SA in adolescents in the emergency department and changes in the timing of presentation. Introduction: Categorizing surgical emergencies is necessary due to the continued imbalance between the supply and demand of surgical services in most institutions where the service is enabled. There are approaches to the subject, with strategies for prioritizing surgical cases, which consider scales and flowcharts, but their lack of external validity and the particularities of the institutions and insurers have limited the generalization of the results. Methods: A conceptualization of the triage of surgical emergencies is carried out with critical and reflective approaches supported by evidence. Potential research opportunities are also identified. Discussion: The potential benefits of surgical triage in emergent situations are extensive to all health system actors, reducing the possibility of adverse outcomes and economic repercussions for institutions and insurers. Queuing theory offers support for understanding the issue and contributes to solutions. However, its adoption is scarce in an emergency as part of a local surgical prioritization strategy. Conclusion: The creation of strategies that establish triage for the patient with a surgical emergency is influenced by the continuous and effective participation of the actors involved in the process and its impact on clinical outcomes. The objective of this paper was to identify the main indicators used to measure the performance in emergency trauma care. A literature review was carried out in the electronic databases: PubMEd, LILACS and Epistemónikos, including publications between January 2011 and December 31, 2021, in Spanish, English and Portuguese. A total of 962 publications were identified. When reviewing the full text, 48 articles were included. The indicators were classified in the dimensions of process and results. 100 different indicators were identified to analyze the performance of emergency trauma care. 71% were process indicators, including service time and triage. In the results dimension 29 indicators were identified; mortality was the indicator most analyzed as well as length of stay. Six indicators on the disability of injured people and 14 indicators related to satisfaction were identified, the most frequent being complaints. Various indicators have been used to assess the performance of emergency trauma care. In the results dimension, the indicators related to satisfaction and disability after injuries have been little explored. Decision-makers and those responsible for emergency care must promote performance evaluation exercises to learn about their current situation using appropriate and sensitive indicators with the available data. Resumen Objetivos: La polifarmacia es un concepto ampliamente utilizado en la práctica clínica. Sin embargo, no existe unanimidad en el punto de corte. De lo que sí hay evidencia es que a mayor número de medicamentos los pacientes pueden presentar mayor número de eventos adversos y menor adherencia terapéutica. El objetivo de este estudio es analizar la relación entre la polifarmacia -entendida como 10 medicamentos o más- en los pacientes mayores de 65 años atendidos en urgencias y la mortalidad, la hospitalización y la readmisión en urgencias. Metodología: Estudio descriptivo retrospectivo de 591 pacientes, en el que se realiza estadística univariante, bivariante y multivariante estableciendo una p < 0,05. Resultados: Se encontró asociación estadísticamente significativa entre la polifarmacia y la mortalidad y la hospitalización tanto a 3, 6 como a 9 meses. También se encontró asociación con la readmisión en urgencias a los 6 y los 9 meses. De estas asociaciones, los datos fueron de forma especial clínicamente relevantes en la asociación entre la polifarmacia y la mortalidad, tanto a corto como a medio plazo. Los pacientes con polifarmacia tuvieron 1,66 (1,12-2,44) veces más riesgo que los pacientes sin polifarmacia. Conclusiones: La polifarmacia, entendida como 10 o más fármacos, es un óptimo punto de corte para detectar a pacientes mayores de 65 años de alto riesgo en urgencias. La selección de estos pacientes puede ayudar al clínico a tomar decisiones, a optimizar el tratamiento y a la inclusión en programas específicos para estos pacientes de alto riesgo.

Introducción: La categorización de las urgencias quirúrgicas es una necesidad en razón al continuo desbalance entre la oferta y la demanda de servicios quirúrgicos en la mayoría de las instituciones donde se encuentra habilitada la prestación del servicio. Hay abordajes en el tema, con estrategias de priorización de los casos quirúrgicos, que consideran escalas y flujogramas, pero su ausente validez externa y las particularidades de las instituciones y aseguradores, han limitado una generalización de los resultados. Métodos: Se efectúa una conceptualización del triaje de las urgencias quirúrgicas con planteamientos críticos y reflexivos soportados en la evidencia. Se identifican, asimismo, las posibles oportunidades para la investigación. Discusión: Los beneficios potenciales de un triaje quirúrgico en situaciones de urgencia, son extensivos a todos los actores del sistema de salud, disminuyen la posibilidad de desenlaces y repercusiones económicas negativas para las instituciones y los aseguradores. La teoría de las colas ofrece el soporte para un entendimiento del tema y contribuye en las soluciones. Su adopción es escasa como parte de una estrategia local de priorización quirúrgica en un contexto de urgencia. Conclusión: La creación de estrategias que establezcan el triaje para el paciente con una urgencia quirúrgica están influenciadas por la participación continua y efectiva de los actores involucrados en el proceso y en su impacto en los desenlaces clínicos.

Objective: To determine the effectiveness of the implementation of the Immediate Care Office as a quality management strategy at the Emergency Service of a public hospital in Lima, Peru. Materials and methods: An analytical, quasi-experimental, before-and-after study conducted with 338 outpatients from different groups treated at the Emergency Service of Hospital María Auxiliadora. Before and after the implementation of the Immediate Care Office, waiting time, satisfaction--assessed through the modified SERVQUAL questionnaire, which was validated and recommended by the Ministry of Health and administered to the postimplementation group--as well as the relationship between satisfaction and waiting time were evaluated. The analysis was performed using IBM SPSS statistics V25.0, frequencies and percentages, the mean difference of both groups obtained through the Levene's test, and the nonparametric measurement of the Spearman's correlation coefficient with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: The results showed a predominance of the female sex (60.95 %), the 14-to-29-year age range (24.56 %) and the Emergency Severity Index level IV (67.16 %). The average waiting time accounted for 17.70 and 4.27 before and after the office implementation, respectively. Therefore, there was a significant difference after the management strategy (p < 0.00). Out of all outpatients, 56.21 % were satisfied with the implementation of the Immediate Care Office, mainly with the empathy (76.33 %) and responsiveness (69.23 %) dimensions, while reliability was the dimension with the lowest satisfaction score (48.52 %). Additionally, there was a significant inverse correlation between waiting time and satisfaction (p < 0.01 and rho: -0.39). Conclusions: The implementation of the Immediate Care Office at the Emergency Service was effective since it reduced the waiting time, which in turn brought satisfaction to the outpatients. Introducción: La injuria renal aguda (IRA) es un trastorno muy frecuente, actúa como factor de morbimortalidad en adultos mayores. Es un problema de salud pública asociado a varios factores, algunos modificables. Métodos: Estudio analítico de corte transversal realizado en Cuenca en el servicio de emergencia del HVCM desde marzo 2018 hasta marzo 2020. El muestreo fue probabilístico, valoró 200 adultos mayores. Se utilizaron los criterios KDIGO (Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes) para determinar y clasificar IRA. Los datos fueron analizados con el programa SPSS v.20.0, utilizando la razón de prevalencia (RP) para medir asociación, con IC 95% y con significancia estadística P < 0.05. Resultados: La media de edad fue 80 años ± 8.37, predominó el género femenino y la mayoría tuvo un nivel de instrucción primaria. La prevalencia de IRA fue 33%. Cuatro de cada diez adultos mayores presentó estadio 3 de IRA y más de la mitad presenta hipertensión arterial y consumo de nefrotóxicos. Los factores asociados fueron: sepsis (RP 2.27; IC95% 1.58–3.27; P =0.0002), deshidratación (RP 1.73; IC95% 1.18–2.54; P =0.006) y diabetes mellitus (RP 1.58; IC95% 1.07–2.34; P =0.0181). Conclusión: Más de un tercio de adultos mayores hospitalizados presentaron IRA, predominó el estadio 3 de KDIGO y estuvo asociado a: sepsis, deshidratación y diabetes mellitus.

Objetivo: analizar los indicadores de gestión de salud relacionados con el servicio móvil de atención de urgencias en el Estado de Ceará. Método: se trata de un estudio documental, retrospectivo, de abordaje cuantitativo, realizado en el sitio IntegraSUS del gobierno del estado de Ceará - Brasil, en el período de julio de 2021, para el análisis de los indicadores "total de llamadas" y "tiempo medio de respuesta". Resultados: se verificó un perfil de prevalencia de llamadas para hombres (52,66%), con edad avanzada >70 años (22,06%), ocurrencias de asistencia del Covid-19 para la Central Juazeiro (7,62%) y accidentes de motocicleta para la Central Eusébio (7,94%). El servicio obtuvo llamadas para 177 municipios de Ceará (96,19%) con un tiempo medio de respuesta mayor para Covid-19. Conclusión: el análisis señala la necesidad de ajustar las estrategias para mejorar el rendimiento del tiempo de respuesta del servicio, con una revisión del sistema organizativo, incluida la publicación de datos por la plataforma digital.

Objetivo: Determinar la eficacia de la implementación del Consultorio de Atención Inmediata como estrategia de gestión de calidad en el Servicio de Emergencia de un hospital público de Lima, Perú. Materiales y métodos: Estudio analítico, cuasi experimental de antes y después, con grupos diferentes, que se realizó en 338 usuarios externos atendidos en el Servicio de Emergencia del Hospital María Auxiliadora. Se evaluó el tiempo de espera antes y después de la implementación del Consultorio de Atención Inmediata, así como la satisfacción a través del cuestionario SERVQUAL modificado —validado y recomendado por el Ministerio de Salud (Minsa) y aplicado en el grupo de posimplementación—, además de su relación con el tiempo de espera obtenido. El análisis se realizó a través del software de IBM SPSS S25.0 mediante medidas de frecuencias y porcentajes, diferencia de medias en grupos distintos con el test de Levene y la medida no paramétrica del coeficiente de correlación de Spearman con un nivel de significancia p < 0,05. Resultados: Los resultados mostraron predominio del sexo femenino (60,95 %), en el rango de edad de 14 a 29 años (24,56 %), en la prioridad IV (67,16 %); el tiempo de espera para la atención tuvo una media de 17,70 previo a la implementación y una media de 4,27 posterior a esta, por lo tanto, hubo una diferencia significativa después de la estrategia de gestión (p < 0,00). La satisfacción del Consultorio de Atención Inmediata se obtuvo en el 56,21 % de los usuarios externos, con énfasis en la dimensión empatía (76,33 %) y capacidad de respuesta (69,23 %), mientras que la dimensión con menor satisfacción fue la fiabilidad (48,52 %), además de obtener una correlación significativa inversa entre el tiempo de espera y la satisfacción (p < 0,01 y rho: -0,39). Conclusiones: La implementación del Consultorio de Atención Inmediata en el Servicio de Emergencia fue eficaz; en consecuencia, el tiempo de espera disminuyó, lo cual, a su vez, generó satisfacción en el usuario externo.

Objetivo: describir las competencias profesionales de los enfermeros que trabajan en urgencias y emergencias y comprender la percepción que tienen sobre las competencias esenciales para el desempeño y la actualización profesional. Método: estudio secuencial explicativo de métodos mixtos, realizado con enfermeros de urgencias y emergencias. Para obtener datos cuantitativos, se utilizó un cuestionario con 78 ítems, respondido por 39 enfermeros, que fueron analizados mediante estadística descriptiva y pruebas no paramétricas. Los datos cualitativos se obtuvieron a través de entrevistas semiestructuradas con 17 enfermeros, que fueron interpretados mediante el análisis temático de contenido inductivo. Los datos se combinaron por conexión. Resultados: se obtuvo un alto nivel de competencia en la autoevaluación de los enfermeros de urgencias y emergencias en el factor 2 - relaciones en el trabajo y un nivel más bajo en el factor 6 - excelencia profesional (p=0,036). Los datos cualitativos coincidieron positivamente con el factor relaciones en el trabajo, identificando la asociación entre conocimiento y experiencia práctica con las competencias, además de un escenario que carece de educación continua. Conclusión: a pesar de los altos niveles de competencia identificados en los enfermeros de urgencias y emergencias, el fortalecimiento de las estrategias educativas favorece el desarrollo y reconocimiento profesional.

Background: Fractures of the maxillofacial complex constitute about half of all fractures, and in a large number of patients they are associated with other fractures and injuries. The etiology is varied, and requires fast, accurate, and timely diagnosis and treatment. The study of this entity is relevant to know its characteristics as part of emergency care; as well as its clinical and social implications.Objective: to describe the behavior of maxillofacial fractures in patients treated at the Maxillofacial Surgery service of Princess Marina Hospital, Gaborone, Botswana.Methods: a descriptive and retrospective study was carried out in the Maxillofacial Surgery service of the Princess Marina Hospital, in Gaborone, Botswana, from June 2018 to June 2020. All patients (N = 423) with diagnosis were included of maxillofacial trauma, and consequently, of some type of fracture of this part of the body. Absolute and relative frequency tables were used to show the information.Results: 423 patients with maxillofacial fractures were attended, among which the male sex predominated. The age group most affected was 26-35 years old; interpersonal violence, the most frequent cause; and skull injuries and fractures, the most common associated injuries.Conclusion: Results were similar to other published studies. Interpersonal violence exceeded traffic accidents as the most common cause of maxillofacial fractures.

A raíz de un proyecto de investigación clínica, aprovechamos la oportunidad para normalizar el rechazo de un manuscrito científico ante su envío a revistas científicas arbitradas e indexadas. Comentamos lecciones aprendidas de nuestra experiencia, haciendo hincapié sobre los pasos para seguir a fin de superar satisfactoriamente el proceso editorial y alcanzar una publicación.

Objetivos: determinar la seguridad al referir pacientes triage 4 y 5 desde un servicio de urgencias a centros de atención primaria, conociendo su disposición final y las posibles complicaciones por esta estrategia. Métodos: estudio observacional retrospectivo de 333 pacientes clasificados como triage 4 y 5 que fueron referidos desde el servicio de urgencias a un centro de atención primaria en febrero 2019. A través de la aseguradora se obtuvo la información sobre si asistieron o no a dicha cita programada y la conclusión final de la consulta. Resultados: 52 pacientes (15,6%) no asistieron a la cita programada sin que esto causara alguna complicación para su salud. De los 281 que sí asistieron, 1,4% fueron referidos a valoración especializada urgente sin que requirieran ingreso hospitalario y 98,6% fueron atendidos y manejados en forma ambulatoria por el médico de atención primaria. Se encontraron diferencias entre los no asistentes a la atención primaria en los subgrupos de edad entre 3 a 17 (p=0,009) y 18 a 37 años (p=0,04). Conclusiones: la estrategia de referencia de pacientes clasificados en 4 o 5 desde un servicio de urgencias a centros de atención primaria es segura, incluso si estos no asisten a la cita programada.

Introducción: Los problemas relacionados con la seguridad del paciente en el contexto prehospitalario son poco explorados, pero esenciales, dada la vulnerabilidad a incidentes. Objetivo: analizar el clima de seguridad del paciente desde la perspectiva del equipo multidisciplinario que actúa en la Atención Prehospitalaria Móvil (APS). Materiales y Métodos: estudio transversal, realizado en una Atención Prehospitalaria Móvil. La recolección de datos se realizó a través de Seguridad actitudes Cuestionario (SAQ), con muestreo por conveniencia y tasa de participación del 94,3% de los profesionales elegibles. Para el análisis de los datos se utilizó estadística descriptiva y la prueba de Mann-Whitney. Resultados: Entre los 151 profesionales participantes, predominaron los del sexo masculino (54,6%), auxiliares y técnicos de enfermería (42,0%), con 10 o más años de actuación (61,0%), en la atención de adultos y pediátrica (93,4%). El SAQ Total tuvo una mediana de 70, indicando una percepción negativa de los participantes sobre la seguridad del paciente en la APH. Los dominios con percepción negativa fueron: Clima de Seguridad, Reconocimiento del Estrés, Percepción de la Gestión y Condiciones de Trabajo; mientras que los dominios Clima de Trabajo en Equipo y Satisfacción Laboral mostraron una percepción positiva. En el análisis comparativo entre profesionales, se observaron diferencias entre algunas categorías para los dominios de Satisfacción en el Trabajo, Reconocimiento del Estrés y Condiciones de Trabajo. Conclusiones: Este estudio presenta las peculiaridades de los servicios médicos de emergencia y la necesidad de sensibilizar a los profesionales y gestores sobre la seguridad del paciente, con el fin de comprender mejor el escenario actual y las posibilidades de reducción de eventos adversos para mejorar la atención ofrecida. Objective: face and content validation of an instrument for Recording the Nursing Process in the Mobile Emergency Care Service. Method: quantitative study of face and content validation of the instrument by a committee of 21 experts in the field of prehospital mobile emergency care nationwide. A Content Validity Index (CVI) equal to or greater than 0.80 determined validation. Results: a CVI of 0.94 was obtained. Only the item ease of reading, related to appearance, had an index below the established. It was possible to evaluate the 99 nursing interventions listed. Conclusion: the instrument for the Nursing Process Record in the Mobile Emergency Care Service was considered valid and can enable the manual documentation of nursing practice in this setting. Objective: To report the importance of offering the cervix for newborns who are in a Neonatal Intermediate Care Unit with a maternal or family bond broken by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. Methods: This is a descriptive study of the experience report type, based on the implementation of the "colo time" project in a public reference hospital, located in the city of João Pessoa/Paraíba. Results: It was observed that the offer of the cervix had an impact not only on reducing stress and pain in newborns, but on the weight gain in weight as energy expenditure was minimized through the reduction of crying. The length of stay in the unit influenced by weight also decreased when compared to the months prior to the study. Conclusion: Colinho time provided the strengthening of reception in environments that are notoriously recognized as stressful, both for patients and professionals. Objective: Identify the consequences of violence at work suffered by nurses in pre-hospital care. Methods: This is a cross-sectional, descriptive study conducted with 67 nurses from a pre-hospital care service in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The data were analyzed using the Johari's Window. Results: Complaints of fear, stress, anxiety, insomnia irritability, work demotivation, tachycardia, headache, sadness, discouragement, hypertension, precordialgia, weight gain, need for psychological and psychiatric care with the prescription of medicalization were highlighted as consequences of violence at work. Conclusion: Violence at work in pre-hospital care causes consequences that involve the physical and emotional dimensions. It is necessary to discuss and reflect at the institutional level, with the participation of professionals, on the characteristics of the work environment, risks, exposures, work-related diseases, causal link and the consequences of violence at work. Objective: To characterize accidents with biological materials and analyze the perception of Mobile Emergency Care Service professionals about the occurrence and post-accident conduct. Methods: Qualitative study, with a descriptive-exploratory approach, conducted with 39 professionals from the occupation. The interviews were conducted in 2020, using a semi-structured interview script and analyzed according to Bardin's content analysis. This study was approved by the Ethics and Research Committee of the State University of Santa Cruz, through the CAAE number: 29980820.7.0000.5526. Results: After analysis, the quantitative data showed that accidents were more frequent in hygiene professionals and nursing technicians, happening by percutaneous and cutaneous mucous route, mainly in the hands and eyes, during ambulance cleaning and venipuncture. Regarding qualitative data, three categories emerged: feelings experienced by professionals regarding the risk to which they are exposed, accidents risk identification with biological material and conduct in post-exposure care and health care network. Conclusion: It is perceived that concern, fear, and anguish were the feelings most evidenced by the professionals, and that they have basic knowledge about how to handle accidents, despite not knowing the structure of the work system. Objective: to develop an analysis matrix to identify problems related to the patient safety culture in an emergency care unit in southern Brazil. Method: the first stage, with a descriptive cross-sectional design, occurred from July to August 2018, with nurses, through the self-application of the instrument "Safety Attitudes Questionaire - SAQ Short Form 2006". In the second stage, with a descriptive exploratory design, the SAQ questions underwent an interpretative analysis, carried out by nurses dedicated to the study of the subject, in April 2021. Results: the problems in the patient safety culture in the emergency care unit were related to the structure, management processes and clinical processes, mainly of an organizational nature. Conclusion: the use of causal chain analysis allowed the construction of an analysis matrix, facilitating the identification of the main problems related to the patient safety culture in the emergency care unit. Introduction: Problems related to patient safety in the pre-hospital context are little explored, but essential, given the vulnerability to incidents. Objective: To analyze the patient safety climate from the perspective of the multidisciplinary team that works in Mobile Pre-Hospital Care (PHC). Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional study, conducted in a Mobile Pre-Hospital Care. Data collection was performed through Safety attitudes Questionnaire (SAQ), with convenience sampling and participation rate of 94.3% of eligible professionals. Descriptive statistics and the Mann-Whitney test were used for data analysis. Results: Among the 151 participating professionals, males predominated (54.6%), nursing assistants and technicians (42.0%), working for 10 or more years (61.0%), in adult and pediatric care (93.4%). The SAQ Total had a median of 70, indicating a negative perception of the participants about patient safety in the APH. The domains with a negative perception were: Safety Climate, Stress Recognition, Management Perception and Working Conditions; while the Teamwork Climate and Job Satisfaction domains showed a positive perception. In the comparative analysis among professionals, differences were observed between some categories for the domains of Job Satisfaction, Stress Recognition and Working Conditions. Conclusions: This study presents the peculiarities of emergency medical services and the need to sensitize professionals and managers about patient safety, with a view to better understanding the current scenario and possibilities of reducing adverse events to improve the care offered. Objective: To identify the scientific evidence in the literature on the use of early warning scales in the identification of adult and elderly patients in clinical deterioration in emergency medical services. Methods: Integrative review, supported by the recommendation Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses, with a search mnemonic based on the Populacion - Interest Phenomenon - Context (PICo) strategy, performed in the sources: US National Library of Medicine National Institutes Database Search of Health, Web of Science, SciVerse Scopus, Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature. Rayyan was used in selection and content analysis to analyze the findings. Results: 691 articles were identified, of which 22 composed the sample and 27 scales were listed, with emphasis on the National Early Warning Score, National Early Warning Score 2, Quick Sepsis Related Organ Failure Assessment and Modified Early Warning Score. The scales had similar assessment parameters, characterized by heart rate, respiratory rate, systolic blood pressure, temperature, oxygen saturation and level of consciousness. Conclusion: 27 scales were listed with similar evaluation parameters, in which four were the most prevalent and of these the National Early Warning Score proved to be the most accurate, however evidence shows that the Modified Early Warning Score is the most used in emergency medical services. The population and geographic characteristics of each mobile emergency service directly interfere with its effectiveness, and there are several reports that the local actions developed by the service have immediate results that are little known. Thus, the objective was to identify the epidemiology of cases treated by the Mobile Emergency Care Service in the city of Palmas, Tocantins, Brazil. This is a retrospective, documentary research, with a quantitative approach, carried out at the Mobile Emergency Care Service in the municipality of Palmas, with data collected from May to June 2019. 3,037 registration forms for the year 2018 were evaluated. The data from the analyzed records were tabulated in an excel spreadsheet, and descriptive statistics of the data were performed. There was a prevalence of attendance of male victims (53.1%), aged between 19-29 years (19.7%). There was also a prevalence of clinical causes (25.7%), followed by traumatic causes (20.4%). Regarding external causes, there was a prevalence of traffic accidents (11.9%); among the clinical causes, seizures (3.1%), cardiopulmonary arrest (2.3%) and syncope (2.5%) predominated; and in obstetric care, labor prevailed (66.9%). The destination of care was predominant in hospitals. Therefore, it is concluded that most of the emergency cases attended were young male victims whose prevalence of causes varied between clinical and traumatic. It is noteworthy that these data, if included in the agenda of decision makers, can support better and more effective practices of containment and mitigation of recurrent diseases, as well as the co-responsible promotion of health through the proper use of mobile emergency service equipment. Introduction: To explore perceptions, concerns and needs of healthcare professionals in an emergency department (ED) from Argentina. Methods: Participatory action research, coordinated and carried out by ED healthcare professionals, which included physicians, nurses and administrative staff who actively engaged in both data collection and analysis. Mixed methodologies were used: documentary analysis of complaints and written claims by patients, 10 individual interviews, and two reflective focus groups of 10 healthcare professionals (who differed in occupation, seniority and experience, including residents in training). Results: The topics that emerged were work factors that lead to errors and threaten patient-centered clinical encounters: work overload and lack of time, the overuse of resources for defensive medicine purposes and technology that replaces physical contact. Healthcare professionals reported episodes of aggression by patients or their families, when long waits and structural insufficiencies (such as lack of beds, saturation of the waiting room, discomfort) threaten patience and tolerance. From these insights, improvements were generated in various areas of the ED. Conclusions: The identification of problems by the ED stakeholders l was a relevant approach that led to a process of collective management change, promoted reflection and raised awareness, allowing the identification of areas for improvement, design strategies and concrete feasible proposals. Objective: To describe the process of implementing a participatory and multifaceted intervention to improve sepsis care and its effects on improving the quality of care. Materials and methods: This is a before-after quasi-experimental study conducted in 2017/2018 in the emergency service of a hospital in Northeast Brazil. The quality of care of 564 patients diagnosed with sepsis was assessed using nine process criteria and one result criterion. The intervention was participatory and multifaceted, being applied for 10 months. Results: After the intervention, the number of non-conformities decreased by 67% (843 vs 506), and all 10 criteria improved, with a significant improvement (p<0.05) in eight of them. Lethality decreased by 10% (p=0.005). Conclusion: The intervention model presented was effective in improving the quality of care for sepsis in the emergency service, with the possibility of scaling up its use in Brazilian hospitals.
