The combined effect of gamma radiation and Carum copticum C. B. Clarke essential oil were determined for the management of Tribolium confusum Du Val larvae and adults. Experiments were carried out at 27 ± 1 ºC and 65 ± 5% R. H. under dark condition and three steps were designed: (A) Application of gamma radiation and essential oil at the same time. (B) Irradiation followed by essential oil. (C) Essential oil followed by irradiation. Radiation doses of 100 to 500 Gy were applied in combination with 5.97, 7.52 and 10.47 μl/l air of essential oil for the adults and 1.91, 4.08 and 12.02 μl/l for the larvae. The result showed that the combination of gamma radiation with C. copticum oil increased larval and adult mortality compared with the control, so that, the interaction of 500 Gy with 10.47 μl/l air for adults and 12.02 μl/l air for larvae caused 100% mortality in 13 and 8 days, respectively; although 100% of the larvae and adults mortality at 500 Gy alone caused within 22 days. It was revealed that the combination of irradiation and essential oils could be used as an effective control method and a good alternative to fumigants.

In cultural and media studies, investigating how social roles, ethnicity, sub-cultures and specially men and women are represented, holds great significance. One of the educational functions of the media with respect to children is role representation and gender stereotypes. This article aims to compare Iranian and foreign child-audience TV programs considering “gender” focusing on “Kolah Ghermezi” New Year Puppet Series and Disney Animations. Examining how gender is represented in “Kolah Ghermezi Puppet Series (Version 2015) and “Big Hero 6” animation, this research also shows what kind of concepts and values are presented to the audience. Accordingly, applying social constructionism theories of representation elaborated by Stuart Hall and based on gender stereotype concept, the author qualitatively analyzes media texts through semiotic approach. In doing so, the latest version of “Kolah Ghermezi” New Year puppet series- version 2015- and “Big Hero 6” animation were purposefully selected. The results are indicative of the fact that women are less represented in both programs. In the former, the mentioned representation occurs through traditional stereotypes, and in the latter, the same goes along with deconstruction of gender stereotypes. Moreover, in both programs “positive” concepts and values are more represented than negative ones. However, “Big hero 6” holds a greater role in this regard.

The ultra-structure of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) was examined by transmission electronic (TEM)) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The study was performed to describe the morphology of susceptible, multidrug-resistant (MDR), extensively drug-resistant (XDR) and extremely drug-resistant tuberculosis isolates (XXDR-TB) during their exponential growth phase. Four types of cell division were observed and described. While three of them (symmetrical, asymmetrical and branching type) occurred in all isolates studied, the fourth one (adapted type) was seen only in XDR and XXDR-TB bacilli. In the fourth type of cell division, a rod shaped mother cell produced a small round shape bacillus (0.3-0.5 μm). These round cells were different from buds or polar division, but similar to terminal endospores without showing the typing heat resistance. Based on the present observation, we suggest that XDR-and XXDR-TB bacilli accommodate changes helping them to overcome the hostile environment. Viewed under AFM, the other frequently detected shapes in MTB isolates were oval, V, Y and multi-branching filaments. These shape variation confirmed pleomorphic phenomena in MTB populations and the specific features of pan-resistant strains.
