Food is essential for the development and essential functions of our lives. Our typical dietary intake consists of vegetables, fruits, legumes, pulses, grains, and other similar foods. These ingredients can be consumed in their raw form or transformed into delicious recipes. Food adulteration refers to the deliberate introduction of potentially hazardous substances into food or food products to contaminate or adulterate them. Prolonged storage of food without sufficient preservation leads to spoilage, which poses a health risk. Food undergoes degradation over an extended duration of storage, leading to the proliferation of germs on its surface. Nanotechnology revolutionizes food safety by employing precise detection and preservation methods. Nanoparticles play a crucial role in expediting the detection of adulterants, enabling the identification of even minute amounts of contaminants like pesticides or hazardous compounds. This, in turn, ensures the preservation of the quality and safety of food items. Nanosensors are used to identify spoilage by monitoring microbial activity or changes in pH levels, to prevent the intake of spoiled food. Nano-emulsions and coatings can extend the shelf life of products by establishing protective barriers that hinder the ingress of oxygen, moisture, and microbial growth. This process effectively preserves the freshness and nutritional value of the products. A simple and cost-effective synthesis method for zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) was developed and loaded with metformin (MET@ZIF-8) for pH sensitive-release behaviour for the treatment of lung cancer. ZIF-8 and MET@ZIF-8 were subjected to particle size, zeta potential analysis and HR-TEM through which it shows evidence that the particles had spherical morphology and nanosize. Percentage of metformin (MET) loading in the ZIF-8 was found to be 63.39 ± 1.32%. Dissociation of ZIF-8 into its coordination ions at acidic conditions (pH 5–6) thereby leads to the release of MET at a higher drug release rate (98%) compared to physiological conditions (pH 7.4) the drug release rate at 35%. Pore volume and pore size of ZIF-8 (1242 m2/g) gets reduced to 1042.00 m2/g after incorporation of MET in ZIF-8. In-vitro cytotoxicity assay results showed the enhanced cytotoxicity for MET @ZIF-8 compared to free MET in a dose dependent manner in human lung adenocarcinoma cells A549. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A sensitive HPTLC method was developed for the simultaneous estimation of quercetin (QUR) and resveratrol (RES). The chromatographic separation was achieved using mobile phase toluene:chloroform:ethyl acetate:formic acid (3:2:4.9:0.1% v/v) and densitometric scan performed at 280 nm. The developed method was linear at 2–10 µg/mL with correlation coefficient of 0.9907 (QUR) and 0.9917 (RES). The method was validated for its precision, specificity, detection and quantification limits and % RSD was found to be less than 4.0%. The developed HPTLC method was evaluated in QUR and RES-loaded nanoformulation and Sesbania grandiflora leaf extract. The amount of QUR and RES present in the SG leaf extract was found to be 26.13 ± 0.7 µg/mg and 4.31 ± 0.8 µg/mg, respectively. The pH-dependent stability of RES has checked using the developed method. The above-developed method can be used to check the QUR/RES content in herbal/pharmaceutical formulation with scope towards industries. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Gene silencing is the characteristic that inhibits gene expression afforded by siRNA interference. The efficacy of the delivery system in terms of precision, efficacy, and stability can be enhanced by genebased drug delivery options. The delivery challenges and their associated side effects create a challenge for the delivery of gene-based drug delivery carriers. Nano-based delivery systems were reported to improve the efficacy of therapy. The absence of an efficient delivery mechanism that shields siRNA from nuclease degradation delivers it to cancer cells, and releases it into the cytoplasm of specific cancer cells without causing side effects is currently the greatest obstacle to the practical implementation of siRNA therapy. This article focuses on general aspects of siRNA and various siRNA nanocarrier-based formulations.
