Carter identifies sexuality in its diverse manifestations as her main concern and acknowledges images derived from European popular tradition as the source of her 'raw material.' Moreover, she characterises her prose as intertextual and identifies herself as a Caucasian Westerner. It is from this contemporary, Europe-centred perspective that she, first, surveys manifestations of sexuality, and then uses them to create her own--often allegorical--imaginative stories. This paper is concerned with the former stage of Carter's intellectual endeavour: surveying expressions of sexuality in public discourse from a Western woman's point of view. This study examined how attachment orientation is also associated with reasons for not having sex. More specifically, the study focused on whether attachment orientation was associated with reasons for not having sex among young adult virgins, as well as their emotional reactions to their virginity status. The sample consisted of 671 "virgin" college students obtained as part of a larger study. They completed an anonymous survey which included a measure of attachment orientation, ratings of the importance of several reasons for being a virgin, and emotional reactions to their virginity status. Results indicated that fearful and dismissing attachment young adults were more likely than secure attachment young adults to say they were still virgins because they were not ready to have sex (e.g., not been in love enough). Differences based on attachment style were also found for affective reactions to the virginity status. Preoccupied attachment young adults had the most negative reaction to their virginity status.

In this research, we explored the social imaginary that relates to women's sexuality based on the writings of several prominent Indonesian female authors. We argue that the social imaginary is not only a social construction but also a construct created through an individual's active participation. Historically, the social imaginary in Indonesia has been tied to nationalism; however, it has gradually shifted toward the individual perspective. In particular, this study examined the construction of the social imaginary in Indonesia by comparing and differentiating literary works created under two political regimes: the authoritarian New Order regime (1968-1998) and the more democratic Reformasi regime (1999-present), wherein individuals--especially women--were given more space and liberty to participate in the construction of the social imaginary of their sexuality. This study focused primarily on two important research questions. First, how has the social imaginary of women's sexuality, as contested by Indonesian women authors in their literary works, changed from the New Order era to the Reformasi era? And second, how has the re-emergence of religious, political, and social powers during the Reformasi era contributed to authors' contestations of women's sexuality? The content analysis of selected literary works revealed that the social imaginary of women's sexuality changed alongside the changes in Indonesia's political regimes. During the New Order era, the social imaginary was controlled by the hegemonic power of the State. In the early period of Suharto's rule, women authors were co-opted by the State's power, whereas its later years were marked by the struggles of women authors against his authoritarian government. The Reformasi era gave way for liberty in women's discussions of their sexuality, but this freedom was found to be temporary, its ephemerality compounded by new, religiously oriented conservative powers' attempts to push back against the new wave of self-expressive women authors and restore women's position to one of suppression and subordination. La stigmatisation de la sexualité affecte les jeunes et les personnes âgées de manières diverses, mais toujours interconnectées. Dans cet article, Leah Tidey et Alexandra Haupt partent du principe que l'expression du genre et de l'âge fait l'objet d'une surveillance tout au long de notre vie, le corps jeune, cisgenre et hétérosexuel étant investi d'une plus grande valeur sociale que tous les autres. Or, le théâtre permet d'explorer dans un environnement relativement sûr les attentes associées à la sexualité, au genre et à l'âge. Tidey et Haupt s'appuient sur des théories en lien avec les scénarios sexuels et d'autres sur la performativité du genre et de l'âge pour s'intéresser aux expériences rattachées à la négociation de la sexualité, du genre et de l'âge vécues par des jeunes et des personnes plus âgées à travers la performance. In this article I argue that Olive Schreiner's novel From Man to Man or Perhaps Only--(1926) explores the female subject's relationship to sexuality in late nineteenth-century colonial South Africa in spatial terms. Reading the novel through Sara Ahmed's (2006) idea of 'queer phenomenology' and the concepts of 'bodily horizon,' 'extension,' and 'orientation,' I claim that it is in the interaction of body and space that the potential lies for both oppression and resistance in relation to sexual and racial norms in the novel. The analysis focuses on how the main characters, Rebekah and Bertie, respond to restrictive sociosexual norms through their orientation in space. The article further considers how Rebekah and Bertie attempt to manage their troubled relation to colonial domesticity, and ultimately transform it, through their relationships with the servants Dorcas and Clartje and with Rebekah's adopted daughter Sartje; the former of which are ultimately imbued with notions of sexualised invasion. This article reveals how the spatial and embodied practices of the main characters are essential in negotiating their sexual positions in late nineteenth-century South African society. The purpose of this study was to compare reports from young adults with ASD and parents from the same families on the young adult's sexual behavior, experiences, knowledge, and communication. 100 young adults (18-30 years) and parents completed an online survey. Results indicated that young adults reported more typical privacy and sexual behaviors, and higher sexual victimization than their parents reported on their behalf. Our findings indicated that individuals with ASD desire and pursue sexual relationships typical of most people and suggest the need for sex education and communication about topics generally covered for neurotypically developing young adults.

Sexual consent determines if sex is consensual, but the concept is under-researched globally. In this article, we focus on heterosexual young men and how they negotiate sex and consent. We draw on peer group interviews to understand how young men are constituted by the dominant discourses at play in shaping their realities. We have identified two different discourses that inform consent, the discourse of consent (based on legal, educational, and grassroots discourses), and the discourse of heterosexuality (based on the heterosexual script, porn, and gender roles) resulting in conflicting messages for boys. They are supposed to take responsibility for sex to be consensual as well as being gentle partners, but at the same time, the heterosexual discourse itself produces power imbalances in sex and dating. Governments, civil society, and policymakers assert the potential of international migration to foster development and alleviate poverty. Often such claims are rooted in macroscale geopolitical analyses of migration and development, which mask the localized, uneven, and embodied ways family members 'left behind' bear the costs and subsidize the U.S./Mexico (inter)national integration project. Informed by feminist geopolitics, this article demonstrates how the left behind disproportionately bear the hidden costs of neoliberal restructuring and migration. We draw upon Mexican Migration Project (MMP) ethnosurvey data to frame the narratives of migrant family members left behind. Narratives were constructed through in-depth interviews conducted in rural Veracruz. We conclude that in the absence of geographically specific examinations of the hidden costs associated with neoliberal development and migration it is possible that 'migration for development' programs and policies may exacerbate inequities that will perpetuate migration and further weaken Mexican origin communities.
