Purpose: Twenty five years have passed since the first national survey on erectile dysfunction (ED) in Japan. The Japanese Society for Sexual Medicine conducted a nationwide survey on the actual status of sexual function targeting men over 20 years old in Japan using validated questionnaires commonly used in clinical practice. Materials and Methods: Japanese men aged 20 to 79 years participated in our online epidemiological study on sexual dysfunction. Erectile status was assessed by direct questioning and specific questionnaires. Risk factors and frequencies of sexual intercourse, masturbation, nocturnal erections, and feeling sexual desire were assessed. The prevalence of these risk factors was compared between men with and without ED. Prevalence and frequencies were calculated for each 5-year age group. Main outcomes were the prevalence and number of patients with ED and simultaneous evaluation of age-related variations. Results: Direct questioning of the men revealed that 13.0% felt troubled by ED. Although 81.0% of them had at least some ED symptoms based on a Sexual Health Inventory For Men score of ≤21, the prevalence of men with ED by Erection Hardness Score (EHS), the most appropriate questionnaire for Japanese with low sexual activity, was 30.9%, indicating that 14,012,596 men have ED. Most risk factors were related with ED, whereas frequencies of sexual intercourse, masturbation, nocturnal erections, and feeling sexual desire were affected by aging. However, the low frequency of these factors in the young generation was surprising. Conclusions: The EHS-based assessment revealed a prevalence of ED of 30.9%, which affected approximately 14 million men, and that the sexual desire, erection stiffness, orgasms, and satisfaction were lower than expected in young Japanese men, especially those aged 20 to 24 years, although those factors tended to worsen with aging. This essay discusses two seventeenth-century literary works that compel us to re-historicize debates over reading methods and thereby to reassess what count as feminist and queer modes of critique: George Thornley's 1657 translation of Longus's Daphnis and Chloe , and Aphra Behn's Love-Letters Between a Nobleman and his Sister , published in three parts between 1684 and 1687. Formally and structurally, erotic literature written for and, in Behn's case, by women complicates modern methodological categories that pit affect against context, surface against symptom, and reparative against paranoid reading. Early modern erotica, literature that both portrays and provokes sexual arousal, offers a valuable archive for understanding histories of affect and sexuality that refuse this investment in women's innocence, sexual as well as political. Building on recent theory (Muscatell and Inagaki, 2021), we focused instead on the socially affiliative experience of sex. We investigated the interplay between immunology and motivation on sexual well-being among 158 individuals in romantic relationships. Inflammation, indexed by C-reactive protein (CRP), and sexual well-being were measured multiple times over a month. Relational approach motivation (i.e., motivation toward rewards in relationships) was measured at study entry. Results revealed significant associations between CRP and sexual satisfaction and partnered orgasms frequency for those most motivated to approach rewards with their partner. Interaction effects were replicated with relationship-focused psychological correlates of sexual well-being (e.g., touch, shared laughter, social support), but not with individual-focused outcomes (e.g., adapting to change, goal progress). Despite the overwhelming support for the importance of sexual communication to intimate relationships, there is limited information about what motivates someone to engage in or avoid sexual communication. Motivational frameworks have been applied to various aspects of intimate relationships, serving as strong predictors of different behavioural processes and playing a crucial role in facilitating behavioural change. As such, we aimed to elucidate the motivations for sexual communication and explore how they relate to other aspects of the process of sexual communication. A total of 373 participants were recruited from online crowdsourcing websites across two studies, and they completed online questionnaires using a mixed methods approach. In Study 1, open-ended responses regarding participants' motivations for sexual communication were inductively coded and aligned with the Regulatory Focus Theory, which describes two distinct modes of goal pursuit depending on if the person is focused on growth and advancement (i.e., promotion-focused) or safety and security (prevention-focused). This coding structure was replicated in Study 2, and we expanded the results to examine the predictive ability of the coded motivations. We found that those higher in attachment avoidance were more likely to have prevention-focused motivations, and those with relationship-oriented promotion-focused motivations reported more depth of both sexual and nonsexual communication as well as more relationship and sexual satisfaction. The transition to parenthood is characterized by physical changes and altered sexual dynamics that may be associated with a tendency for new parents to underestimate their partner's physical attraction to them and/or be more attuned to daily changes in their partner's attraction. To examine this possibility, this study assessed directional bias and tracking accuracy in new parents' perceptions of their partner's daily physical attraction to them. Fifty-nine couples completed 21-day diary tasks during pregnancy, 2 weeks after childbirth, and 15 weeks after childbirth (i.e., up to 63 diary days). Both mothers and fathers experienced increased appearance insecurity and decreased sexual frequency and sexual satisfaction across the transition. Moreover, at times when new parents reported higher appearance insecurity or lower sexual satisfaction, they underestimated their partner's physical attraction to them, but were not more likely to notice day-to-day fluctuations in their partner's attraction. Objective: There are inconsistent reports regarding the relationship between cannabis use and male sexual function with almost no data about synthetic cannabinoids (SC) and their effect on male sexual functions. This study investigated psychological concerns related to male sexual functions among cannabis and SC users. The research assessed different sexual functions and aspects of sexual psychopathology in cannabis and SCs dependent men compared to controls. Method: Thirty male patients with cannabis dependence, thirty male patients with SCs dependence, and thirty matched controls from the outpatient clinic at Kasr Al Ainy hospital, Egypt, were assessed using the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV TR Axis I Disorders (SCID-I), International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF), and Sexuality scale. Results: The means of IIEF questionnaire in the cannabis and SC group were significant lower (worse) than the means of the control group (P <.001) except the orgasmic function in cannabis group (P =.052). In the SCs group, sexual depression was higher and preoccupation lower than in the cannabis group (P <.020; P <.003, respectively) and control groups (P <.001; P <.001, respectively). The duration and dose of cannabis and SCs correlated significantly with sexual esteem, sexual preoccupation and all domains of IIEF. Conclusion: Cannabis and SC dependence were associated with lower erectile function, sexual desire, intercourse satisfaction and overall satisfaction, and lower orgasmic functions in the SC group than controls. Both groups showed higher sexual depression, lower sexual esteem and sexual preoccupation than controls. AbstractPrior literature has indicated that autistic students report unsatisfactory sexual education experiences and may also be at greater risk of both sexual assault victimization and perpetration than non-autistic peers. Current mixed methods findings combine data from two related studies to explore satisfaction with sexual education among autistic and non-autistic college students. Findings support hypotheses that autistic students are less satisfied with consent education than non-autistic peers. Qualitatively, a theme of difficulties in identifying one’s own desire to consent was observed across groups. Within the autistic group, a theme of delayed recognition of sexual assault was observed. Findings support the importance of early and comprehensive sexual education and suggest further attention may be needed to support students in navigating healthy sexual decision-making. Introduction: Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) significantly impacts adults' wellbeing, causing both physical and psychological harm. IPV has been consistently linked to adverse sexual health outcomes, including an increased risk of sexually transmitted infections, unintended pregnancies, and sexual dysfunction. This systematic review examines the evolving relationship between IPV and sexual health outcomes in adults from 2014 to 2024, addressing gaps in understanding across diverse populations and exploring the complex interplay between violence, sexuality, and health. Methods: A comprehensive search of multiple databases was conducted for peer-reviewed articles published between January 2014 and February 2024. Studies examining the association between IPV and sexual health variables in adult populations (aged 18 and older) were included. The review followed PRISMA guidelines, and 27 articles met the inclusion criteria after full-text screening and quality assessment. Results: IPV was consistently associated with poorer sexual health outcomes across diverse populations and contexts. Studies utilized various validated instruments to assess IPV and sexual health. Research primarily focused on cisgender heterosexual women, with limited studies on cisgender heterosexual men, men who have sex with men, and transgender individuals. Background: The physical and mental changes created during menopause cause sexual dysfunction, which affects the quality of life, self-esteem, and emotional relationships. Wormwood cream contains tannins, terpenoids, flavonoids, phytosterols, and alkaloids. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of wormwood vaginal cream on the sexual satisfaction and quality of sexual life of postmenopausal women. Method: This study was a randomized, triple-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial conducted on 112 postmenopausal women (45–65 years old) in 2021. The studied women were randomly assigned to two wormwood cream or placebo groups. Wormwood cream or placebo was used for 4 weeks and 3 times a week. The main data collection tools included the Larson Sexual Satisfaction Questionnaire (LSSQ) and the Sexual Quality of Life Questionnaire (SQOL-F). SPSS software version 26 and independent t, Mann–Whitney, paired t and Wilcoxon tests were used for statistical analysis. P < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: Before the intervention, the mean and standard deviation of sexual satisfaction was 73.57 ± 3.84 in the intervention group and 73.16 ± 4.52 in the placebo group. After the intervention, the mean and standard deviation of sexual satisfaction in the intervention group was 75.34 ± 3.85 and in the placebo group was 72.82 ± 4.32. The quality of women's sexual life before of the intervention in the intervention and placebo groups was 59.16 ± 14.10 and 57.18 ± 12.38, and after the intervention, it was 83.00 ± 11.51and 69.64 ± 12.97, respectively. At the end of 4 weeks, participants in the wormwood cream group showed a significant improvement in sexual satisfaction and the quality of women's sexual life (P < 0.001). It was meaningful. Conclusion: Based on the findings of this trial, wormwood vaginal cream can be used as an uncomplicated topical supplement to improve sexual satisfaction and quality of sexual life in postmenopausal women with low sexual satisfaction and quality of sexual life. Sexual assistants can help people with physical and/or intellectual disabilities to meet their sexual needs, but little is known about these invisible, unregulated care providers.Qualitative descriptive study.The study was conducted in a region of southern Spain. Convenience sampling was used to recruit 22 nurses aged 23–41 years, who had provided care to people with physical and/or intellectual disabilities. The participants' experiences were explored through semi‐structured interviews conducted between November 2022 and May 2023.Three main themes were extracted from the data analysis: (1) the need to increase the visibility of people with physical and/or intellectual disabilities sexuality, (2) sexual assistance: a conspiracy of silence and (3) defining the role of sexual assistants.According to the nurses, sexual assistants are still unregulated care providers who carry out their work in anonymity. Sexual assistants support people with physical and/or intellectual disabilities in the whole spectrum of their sexuality; in addition to sexual pleasure, they provide opportunities for bonding, affection, physical contact, stimulation or caressing. Nurses are committed to normalising the role of sexual assistants and regulating their services within a sound legal framework. Purpose: To explore women's lived experiences of intimacy, sexuality and sexual functioning in the context of cauda equina syndrome (CES). Methods: Ten women completed an in-depth semi-structured interview exploring the psychosocial impact of CES on their sexuality and data were analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Results: One superordinate theme was generated: "Sexuality forever altered, it's changed completely," reflecting the enduring impact of CES on women's sexuality. Five subordinate themes emerged reflecting a range of changed roles and relationships, primarily associated with loss of sexual identity and a sense that health professionals did not prioritize sexual functioning (1): Loss of worth as a sexual being: "Feel like a nothing" (2) Relationships have changed: "It's not a meeting of equals anymore" (3) Lack of professional support: "We don't like to talk about anything below the waist" (4) Challenges for motherhood: "What kind of future will they have with a mother like me..." and (5) Finding ways of coping: "Closed the door on it." Conclusion: Findings highlight the detrimental effect of CES, directly and indirectly, on women's sexuality. There is a need for a multidisciplinary approach to address the physical, emotional, cognitive, and behavioural effects experienced in relation to sexuality as part of a rehabilitative process. Satisfying romantic relationships often feature high levels of nurturance and eroticism. Consensually non-monogamous (CNM) individuals may experience these with additional partners, potentially reducing the need for both to be present in a primary relationship to achieve satisfaction. We assessed how nurturance and eroticism relate to relationship satisfaction in single-partnered (n = 289) and multi-partnered (n = 335) individuals. We also compared relationship behavior (single vs multiple current partners) and identity (monogamous, n = 217 vs CNM, n = 399). Compared to multi-partnered individuals’ reports of their primary relationship, single-partnered individuals reported similar satisfaction and nurturance, and higher eroticism. Across single- and multi-partnered individuals, nurturance and eroticism were positively associated with relationship satisfaction, with no upper level interactions. Instead, interactions emerged when assessing relationship identity. Among monogamous individuals, nurturance and eroticism also did not interact, meaning the positive association of one was consistent across levels of the other. For CNM-identified individuals, however, nurturance and eroticism interacted; nurturance was more strongly linked to satisfaction when eroticism was low, while eroticism was only linked to satisfaction when nurturance was low. When nurturance was high, there was no association between eroticism and satisfaction. Longer relationship durations were linked to lower eroticism and higher nurturance, regardless of partner number or age. Findings suggest that nurturance and eroticism contribute to satisfaction differently for monogamous and CNM individuals, with CNM individuals fostering highly satisfying relationships even when eroticism is low. AbstractThis study presents the development and validation of the Sexual Boredom Inventory (SBI), a 6-item measure assessing sexual boredom as a temporary, context-dependent state. Initial items were drafted from data obtained through qualitative analysis, and the SBI was tested using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) with a sample of adults reporting on their sexual experiences in the past month. A single-factor model was found to be the best fit, with four items dropped during refinement. The SBI demonstrated good internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = .88) and evidence of discriminant validity, with significant negative correlations to sexual pleasure and well-being. Additionally, the SBI was positively correlated with attention difficulties and impulsivity, highlighting a link between sexual boredom and ADHD. Findings suggest that sexual boredom, as a transient experience, is associated with negative sexual outcomes. Further research should confirm these relationships and potential interventions. AbstractTrial registrationDissatisfaction with physical appearance can cause problems in experiencing sexual satisfaction. In this randomized controlled clinical trial, we analyzed the effects of an educational-behavioral online intervention on transgender women’s body image satisfaction and sexual satisfaction from December 2020 to March 2021, when the data collection of the study was completed in Tehran, Iran. 70 transgender women who met the inclusion criteria were randomly assigned to the control group and the experimental groups (i.e., 35 in each group). Both groups first received routine training and then the experimental group received four 90-minute training sessions. In both groups, body image satisfaction (as a primary outcome) and sexual satisfaction of transgender women (as a secondary outcome) were evaluated by questionnaire prior to the intervention and three months after the intervention. Independent and paired t-test were used for data analysis, and the significance level was considered P < 0.05. According to the research findings, the educational-behavioral intervention improved transgender women’s body images but had no effects on their sexual satisfaction. Although previous studies have established links between anxiety disorders, sexual dysfunctions, and sexual satisfaction, there is relatively little research on the specific factors associated with living with an anxiety disorder that might contribute to these sexual health disparities. This study assessed the associations between anxiety, cognitive distractions, biased expectancies, and 1) sexual dysfunction (DSM-5 diagnostic criteria) 2) associated distress, and 3) sexual satisfaction while considering the role of pharmacological treatment-related sexual side effects and comorbid depressive symptoms. A large clinical population (N = 207) of people with anxiety diagnoses seeking treatment at 11 outpatient anxiety clinics in Denmark participated. Higher cognitive distraction levels were linked with a greater risk of sexual dysfunction, more sexual dysfunction-associated distress, and lower sexual satisfaction. Higher sexuality and anxiety biased expectancies were associated with an increased risk of sexual dysfunctions and associated distress and decreased sexual satisfaction. Higher anxiety symptom severity was only associated with lower sexual satisfaction among female respondents. Introduction: The rate of sexual activity among adolescents is very high, with serious repercussions such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and sexually transmitted diseases. Understanding the factors that influence adolescents' engagement in sexual activity is crucial for promoting healthy sexual attitudes and behaviors in schools, sex education programs, communities, and families. This study aimed to examine the factors influencing sexual decision-making among Cambodian adolescents. Methods: In accordance with the Standards for Reporting Qualitative Research (SRQR), this study used a descriptive qualitative methodology with individual interviews. The participants in the study were 30 Cambodian adolescents (15 males and 15 females) who were all unmarried and sexually active. They were recruited using various methods, including social networking services, and interviewed to explore their sexual decision-making processes. Results: The analysis revealed that the decision-making process was influenced by both internal and external factors. Internal factors included sexually explicit Internet material and arousal from sexy outfits, while external factors included foreign vs. Khmer culture, the surrounding environment including community, peers, and family, and educational advice received at school. Gender differences were noted in responses to stimuli like sexy outfits and perceptions of cultural norms. Conclusions: This study underscores the complexity of adolescent sexual decision-making in Cambodia. It highlights the need for sex education that is not only comprehensive but also culturally sensitive, addressing the diverse influences on these adolescents. Future research should include a broader demographic group, including rural adolescents, to gain more comprehensive insights. Implications for practice: This study uncovers how cultural norms, peers, and the media impact sexual behaviors, emphasizing the significant gender differences in these aspects. AbstractSexual boredom in women is associated with various levels and dimensions of sexual desire, as well as lower sexual and relationship satisfaction. However, the directionality of these relationships remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate whether sexual boredom mediates the relationship between partner and attractive-other sexual desire and sexual and relationship satisfaction in a sample of 1155 Portuguese women in long-term monogamous relationships. Participants, aged 18-66 years (M = 31.60, SD = 5.65), were involved in cohabiting relationships of 1 year or more. Linear regression analysis and Structural Equation Modeling were conducted, revealing that sexual boredom emerged as a stronger predictor of sexual and relationship satisfaction compared to dimensions of sexual desire. Additionally, sexual boredom partially mediated the relationship between partnered sexual desire and satisfaction and fully mediated the relationship between attractive other-related sexual desire and satisfaction variables. Notably, sexual boredom explained up to one-third of sexual satisfaction (32%) and slightly less of relationship satisfaction (27%). These findings underscore the importance of addressing sexual boredom in long-term relationships to promote women’s sexual health. Furthermore, they suggest that experiencing sexual desire for attractive non-partners is not indicative of sexual and relationship dissatisfaction unless accompanied by sexual boredom. The present study aims to evaluate the effect of sexual counseling based on the PLISSIT model on improving the sexual function of postmenopausal women.The randomized trial focused on postmenopausal married women who did not have any pre-existing health conditions. The intervention group were provided with personalized sexual counseling grounded in the PLISSIT model, whereas the control group were given educational pamphlets. Participants filled out the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) questionnaire and were categorized into two groups through randomized blocking, utilizing blocks of four and six. The main outcome measure was the average sexual function score assessed at the start of the study, as well as at 4 and 8 weeks following the intervention.A total of 60 eligible participants were included in the study. The mean ± standard deviation participant age was 58.7 ± 3.5 years. At week 4 following the intervention, statistically significant differences were observed between the study groups in the mean scores of sexual desire (p = 0.023), arousal (p = 0.002), orgasm (p = 0.0001), lubrication (p = 0.001) and satisfaction (p = 0.004). At week 8 following the intervention, significant differences were noted in the mean scores for sexual arousal (p = 0.001), orgasm (p = 0.000), lubrication (p = 0.031) and satisfaction (p = 0.004) between the study groups.The sexual counseling based on the PLISSIT model can significantly improve sexual function in postmenopausal women, making it a valuable intervention for healthcare providers to consider in their practice. This paper finds its origin in a debate between Georges Bataille (1897-1962) and Octavio Paz (1914-1998) on what is central to the idea of eroticism. Bataille posits that violence and transgression are fundamental to eroticism, and without prohibition, eroticism would cease to exist. Paz, however, views violence and transgression as merely intersecting with, rather than being intrinsic to, eroticism. Paz places focus on imagination, and transforms eroticism from a transgressive, to a ritualistic act. Eroticism thus functions as an intermediary, turning animal sexuality into ceremony and rite. In this paper, I argue that Paz and Bataille are not fundamentally at odds in their conceptualisation of eroticism. Instead, Paz redefines the locus of eroticism by subverting its unsettling aspects. His conception of eroticism gives precedence to the imagination, which in itself is an act of violation. Imagination transgresses normal life, but this transgression – the violation of the habitual world – also introduces a glimpse of the numinous that Paz associates with belongingness. Partner and relationship factors often play a key role in determining survivors' sexual adjustment, making it likely that couple‐based interventions that integrate survivors' partners could be especially promising for addressing survivors' sexual concerns. Yet few such interventions have been tested. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of the Intimacy Enhancement (IE) intervention, a four‐session, couple‐based intervention addressing breast cancer survivors' sexual concerns by telephone in a randomized controlled trial.Female posttreatment breast cancer survivors reporting sexual concerns and their intimate partners (N = 120 couples; 240 participants) were randomized either to the IE intervention or to Living Healthy Together (LHT), an active control intervention of equivalent length. Outcomes (measured at baseline, postintervention, and at 3 and 6 months postintervention) included breast cancer survivors' sexual function (primary), partners' sexual function (secondary), and survivors' and partners' psychosocial and relationship outcomes (secondary). Mixed linear regression models examined intervention effects on outcomes at all follow‐ups.Model‐based estimates of intervention effects showed greater improvements in survivors' overall sexual function, sexual satisfaction, arousal, lubrication, and orgasm at postintervention (p < .05). Effects on survivors' 3‐month and 6‐month sexual functioning or other secondary outcomes were minimal. Most couples completed all IE sessions (97%) and LHT (92%), and satisfaction ratings were high.Compared with an active control intervention, the IE intervention had significant short‐term benefits for survivors' sexual function. AbstractSexual assertiveness – the ability to express and act on sexual desires – is crucial for sexual health, linked to greater sexual satisfaction and reduced risk of sexual violence. However, little is known about the role of sexuality education for individual differences in sexual assertiveness. This study examined self-reported sexual assertiveness of 199 German university students (ages 18–25). It aimed to: (1) investigate the association between the amount of sexuality education information and sexual assertiveness, (2) explore the role of various educational sources (schools, caregivers, peers, Internet), (3) as well as sexual-risk topics and sex-positive topics, and (4) examine the interaction between educational sources and topics. Results from multiple regression analyses indicated that while receiving more sexuality education information generally correlated with higher sexual assertiveness, this link may be largely driven by peer-provided information and self-estimated knowledge about sex-positive topics. Furthermore, the positive link between information received from peers and sexual assertiveness was weaker among students with more self-estimated knowledge about sexual-risk topics, while there were no other interactions between educational sources and self-estimated knowledge about sex-positive topics. Objectives: While many people strive for a fulfilling sexual life as they age, the inevitable changes that come with aging can present significant challenges concerning their sexual well-being (SWB). This study aims to present a comparative analysis of the scores in the variables of sexual satisfaction, adjustment to aging (AtA), and satisfaction with life (SwL) before and after the implementation of an intervention program to promote SWB among older adults. Methods: A convenience sample of 117 older community-dwelling adults (M = 72.31; SD = 5.752) were included in this study, and an ex post facto longitudinal design was applied. A six-week intervention program aimed at improving older adults' understanding and exchanging their experiences of SWB was performed. The following measures were utilized: (1) a sociodemographic, health and lifestyle questionnaire; (2) Adjustment to Aging Scale (AtAS); (3) Satisfaction with Life Scale (SwLS); (4) New Sexual Satisfaction Scale (NSSS-S); and (5) Mini-Mental Status Exam (MMSE). The specified assessment time points in this study were as follows: baseline and after intervention. A follow-up assessment was conducted 6 months and 12 months after the baseline measurement. Results: The results indicated an increase in the scores in sexual satisfaction, AtA, and SwL from before to after the intervention among the intervention group. Conclusions: The development of intervention programs in older communities is necessary to contribute to the enhancing older adults' SWB and to explore the best practices for implementing tailored interventions within community settings. Most genotypically XX females born with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) have undergone feminizing genital reconstructive surgery within their first few years of life or in early childhood. Reconstructive surgery may impact the sexual function of patients later in life, including their satisfaction with sexual activity. A review of the sexual function of CAH patients with previous reconstructive surgery was conducted through PubMed using several search terms, including (((sexual function) AND (female)) AND (congenital adrenal hyperplasia)) AND (reconstruction), and focused on articles published within the past 25 years. Relevant cited references within these articles were reviewed as well. Most studies demonstrated worse sexual function in female CAH patients compared to controls, while some showed comparable sexual function between the two groups. This study explored the relationships among psychological, relational, and sexual factors and their impact on sexual satisfaction among Italian women during the COVID-19 lockdown. Data were collected via an online survey with 3803 participants. The survey assessed mental health, relationship quality, frequency of sexual intercourse, frequency of masturbation, body awareness, and sexual satisfaction. Correlation analyses revealed positive relationships among all the variables and negative relationships with low mental health. A network analysis showed that sexual satisfaction was the most central variable, strongly linked to relationship quality, frequency of sexual intercourse, and body awareness. An exploratory mediation model examined the indirect effects of mental health and frequency of masturbation on sexual satisfaction through the other variables as mediators. The results indicated that mental health negatively influenced sexual satisfaction both directly and indirectly through relationship quality and body awareness, while frequency of masturbation had a positive indirect effect through body awareness. These findings highlight the complex interplay among mental health, body awareness, relational factors, and sexual satisfaction, emphasizing the importance of holistic approaches in enhancing sexual well-being. Self‐insertion of foreign bodies into the urethra is uncommon and is often associated with complex psychological or behavioral factors. Many cases of foreign bodies in the urethra have been reported worldwide with variable complaints of penile pain, penile itching, dysuria, hematuria, and complete obstruction of urine. These foreign objects are managed to remove according to their size, complexity of shape, and location in the urethra. We report a case of a self‐inserted sewing needle in the urethra by an old man during an act of achieving sexual gratification, which was removed through an endoscopic approach by cystoscopy, along with a literature review. Objective: To investigate the association between female sexual function and metabolic features among women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) during reproductive age. Method: This was a cross-sectional study in which 288 women with PCOS and 180 women without PCOS between the ages of 20 and 40 years were evaluated. All women had serum total testosterone, androstenedione, DHEA-S, fasting glucose, total cholesterol, HDL-C, LDL-C, and triglyceride levels analyzed. The McCoy Female Sexual Questionnaire (MFSQ) was applied to all studied women. Exploratory factor analysis and reliability analysis were done after data collection. The factor loadings of MFSQ domains were compared between women with PCOS and controls. Results: Average factor loadings of the MFSQ sexuality domain and MFSQ sexual partner domain were significantly lower in the PCOS group when compared to controls. There was no correlation between the two sexual function domains of the MFSQ and the PCOS features either in the PCOS group or the controls. Conclusion: PCOS is a heterogeneous disease with different metabolic components, such as insulin resistance, obesity, and hyperandrogenism. Although sexual function among women with PCOS was lower than controls, no differences were found in metabolic features of the PCOS and non-PCOS groups with relation to sexual function determined by the MFSQ. Background: Vaginal dryness (VD) represents a significant concern affecting women across diverse life stages, encompassing both pre- and postmenopausal women at any age. Dyspareunia, defined by genital pain that can be experienced before, during, or after intercourse, is often associated with vaginal dryness. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of a water-based vaginal lubricant with hyaluronic acid to reduce sexual discomfort associated with vaginal dryness. Methods: A prospective, multicenter, uncontrolled clinical investigation was conducted over a three-month period in women aged 18 years or older experiencing pain or difficulty during sexual intercourse for whom the use of a vaginal lubricant was recommended. Results: Significant improvements were observed in the FSFI scores, indicating enhanced sexual function (p <.001). Vaginal dryness symptoms, including irritation, dryness, itching, and dyspareunia, significantly decreased after product use (p <.001). Clinical implications: This study contributes to the limited scientific knowledge on the application of lubricants in the context of symptoms associated with VD. Objectives: To evaluate the effect of bio-electromagnetic energy regulation (BEMER) therapy on erectile dysfunction (ED) in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). Methods: A triple-blind randomized clinical trial was conducted in two different centers. Fifty-two male participants with MS were randomly allocated into two groups. Patients received either three weeks of BEMER with pelvic floor exercises or sham BEMER with pelvic floor exercises. The primary measure was the International Index of Erectile Function—Erectile Function (IIEF-EF). Secondary measures included the Sexual Health Inventory for Men (SHIM), Erection Hardness Scale (EHS), Arizona Sexual Experience Scale (AXES), Modified Fatigue Impact Scale (MFIS), and Multiple Sclerosis, Intimacy, and Sexuality Questionnaire (MSISQ-19). Results: Compared to the sham BEMER group, the BEMER group showed better improvements in the IIEF-EF (mean difference [MD]: −6.9, p < 0.001), SHIM (MD: −6.1, p < 0.001), EHS (MD: −0.4, p = 0.022), AXES (MD: 2.9, p = 0.030), MSISQ-19 (MD: 15.0, p < 0.001), and MFIS (MD: 31.0, p < 0.001). Conclusions: BEMER therapy improved erectile function and sexual satisfaction and reduced fatigue in patients with MS after three weeks of intervention. Research shows that humour is related to relationship satisfaction, but little is known about couples' use of sexual humour. The current study examined sexual humour use and its associations with relational humour, relationship satisfaction, and sexual satisfaction. Participants (adults in a romantic relationship of at least 4 months; N = 196) completed online measures of the frequency, nature, and perceptions of sexual humour use, relational humour use, relationship satisfaction, and sexual satisfaction, and they described an example of sexual humour their partner had used. Participants indicated that sexual humour was used at least occasionally with their partner. Examples of sexual humour suggest several common forms (e.g., inside jokes/rituals, physical humour, smoothing over awkward moments). Most participants perceived positive consequences of sexual humour, including increased comfort, fun, and closeness. More frequent use of positive relational humour (by self and partner) was associated with more frequent and more positively valenced sexual humour, whereas more frequent negative relational humour use by partner predicted lower relationship and sexual satisfaction. Finally, more positively valenced sexual humour predicted sexual satisfaction over and above relationship satisfaction and relational humour. Relationship and sexual humour are related to both relationship and sexual satisfaction. Sexual humour may help mitigate discomfort with potentially awkward situations and facilitate individual comfort as well as connection with a partner. The unique contribution of sexual humour to sexual satisfaction suggests it may play a modest but distinctive role in sexual well-being. Implications and future directions are discussed. Are university students aware that physiological sexual arousal (i.e., erection, lubrication, orgasm) may occur in victims during a sexual assault? In this study, we examined this question and the role of the gender of the participant, the gender of the victim, and the gender of the perpetrator on perceptions of physiological sexual arousal in sexual assault victims. They also examined the link between endorsement of rape myths and these perceptions. A sample of 477 female and 230 male students was recruited and invited to complete an online questionnaire. The questionnaire included an adapted version of the Illinois Rape Myth Acceptance–Short Form (IRMA-SF) scale, along with questions about perceptions of sexual arousal in various scenarios of sexual assault. In general, students agreed that physiological sexual arousal could occur in some victims. Particularly, students overall judged sexual arousal to be most likely when both the perpetrator and the victim are men. For erection in male victims specifically, male students believed it to be more plausible when the perpetrator is a woman. Female students thought that lubrication is more likely to occur than male students did, regardless of the gender of the perpetrator. Endorsement of rape myths was negatively associated with the belief that it is possible for a victim to experience sexual arousal during a sexual assault. Sexual activity can provide important opportunities for fulfilling experiences that contribute to greater relationship satisfaction and overall well-being, yet young adults are reporting fewer partnered sexual interactions. According to self-determination theory, when people perceive their needs for autonomy, competence, and relatedness are met in relationships, they report greater relationship and sexual well-being, whereas need frustration contributes to relationship dysfunction and dissatisfaction. In the current cross-sectional study, we extend these ideas to a sexual context. We hypothesized that sex-specific need satisfaction would be associated with higher sexual desire, sexual satisfaction and relationship satisfaction and lower sexual distress beyond that of general need satisfaction within one's relationship. We expected opposite associations for sex-specific need frustration. Partnered individuals aged 18–29 (N = 197) completed online measures of sexual and relationship need satisfaction and frustration, sexual desire, sexual and relationship satisfaction, and sexual distress. Controlling for need satisfaction within the relationship, which was associated with higher desire and satisfaction, multivariate regression analyses indicated that sex-specific need satisfaction was associated with higher sexual desire, higher sexual and relationship satisfaction, and lower sexual distress. Furthermore, sex-specific need frustration was associated with higher sexual distress. While need satisfaction in one's relationship and sex life may have benefits for sexual desire and sexual and relationship satisfaction, promoting need satisfaction and minimizing need frustration specific to sex may be helpful in minimizing sexual distress. Implications for researchers and clinicians highlight the importance of distinguishing between psychological need satisfaction (and frustration) across different relational contexts. Sexualized drug use (SDU) has been associated with various motivations (e.g. coping with emotional distress, enhancing sexual functioning) and factors related to sexo-relational well-being (e.g., sexual satisfaction, performance anxiety). However, there is a lack of comprehensive models exploring associations between motivations for SDU and sexo-relational correlates. This study examined motivations related to SDU and their associations with sexo-relational correlates (e.g., sexual satisfaction, compulsivity). A community sample of 1,196 adults from Quebec completed an online survey on sexual health, including a questionnaire on SDU and related motivations and validated questionnaires on sexual satisfaction, sexual performance anxiety, body shame, discomfort with sexual communication, sexual compulsivity, and a history of childhood sexual abuse (CSA). Exploratory factor analyses (EFA) were performed on the SDU motivations questionnaire, followed by path analysis to test for sexo-relational correlates motivation domains. The EFA revealed four SDU motivations: increasing satisfaction and sensations (Factor 1), increasing sexual self-esteem (Factor 2), mitigating distress (Factor 3), and increasing sexual responsiveness and functioning (Factor 4). Higher performance anxiety and sexual compulsivity were associated with higher scores on all four motivation factors. Greater body shame was positively linked to Factors 2 and 3 and negatively to Factor 4. Sexual satisfaction, discomfort with sexual communication, and CSA were, respectively, uniquely associated with Factors 1, 3, and 4. Sexual arousal, or feeling "turned on," is experienced by many, yet an endless variety of factors influence how this response is manifested. Literature on the topic of sexually arousing partner characteristics is limited and focuses on primarily majority samples. The present mixed-methods study sought to answer the overarching question of what partner characteristics are considered sexually arousing by a diverse sample. Participants (N = 344) were recruited through social media to complete open-ended questions inquiring about partner-related aspects of what turns them on sexually in the following domains: physical characteristics, personality traits, and nature of connection. Thematic analysis revealed nine themes and 28 subthemes overall, with few differences in frequency of endorsement between cisgender men and women or between gender diverse and cisgender participants. Quantitative analyses indicated differences in preferences for physical, though not for personality or connection characteristics among cisgender men and women and gender-diverse individuals. Background Duty Sex—the act of engaging in sex out of a sense of duty or obligation to a partner—is a commonly reported reason why women have sex, with studies indicating associations between Duty Sex and sexual dysfunction, as well as nonconsensual sexual experiences (NSEs). Aim This study sought to examine the associations between Duty Sex frequency, sexual function, and NSEs using comprehensive, validated measures of sexual function and NSE histories in a large community sample of women. Methods Six hundred and fifty-eight women with (n  = 293) and without (n  = 365) NSE histories completed measures of sexual function and sexual motivations. Results Women with NSE histories reported more sexual pain, lower sexual satisfaction, and more frequent Duty Sex. The relation between NSE history and Duty Sex remained after controlling for the variance in sexual function. The type of NSE behavior, but not the timing of the first NSE nor the perceived impact of the experience, predicted Duty Sex frequency. Clinical implications Clinicians should consider sexual motivations, particularly Duty Sex, when treating women with NSE histories or who experience sexual dysfunction. Strengths and Limitations To our knowledge, this was the first study to examine how NSEs relate to all domains of sexual function and sexual motives, revealing a link between NSEs, sexual function, and Duty Sex. However, we were unable to account for what percentage of sexual encounters are considered Duty Sex. Therefore, our measurement of Duty Sex lacks specificity, which may explain the relatively low variance accounted for by the models in our analyses. Conclusions There are consequences of NSEs, including difficulties with communicating sexual boundaries and impairment of sexual function, that may contribute to the increased likelihood of engaging in Duty Sex. Background Individuals experiencing chronic pain often report adverse effects on their sexual functioning. However, other important aspects of sexual well-being (SWB), such as sexual distress and sexual self-esteem, have received little attention. This is an important omission because a SWB involves more than just good sexual function. Similarly, past research has not examined how chronic pain characteristics affect the different aspects of SWB. Aim The goal of this cross-sectional study was to examine the SWB of individuals living with chronic pain and to examine the extent to which SWB is associated with different chronic pain characteristics. Methods A total of 310 individuals (28.1% men, 70.6% women, 1.3% transgender men) with ages between 21 and 50 (M  = 31.96, SD  = 6.13) who were in a romantic relationship and with self-reported chronic pain for three months or longer completed an online survey. Outcomes The following indicators of SWB were included in the study: frequency of genital sexual activity, sexual satisfaction, sexual self-esteem, sexual desire, sexual function, genital pain, and sexual distress. Results The results show that most individuals with chronic pain maintain an active and satisfying sexual life and feel positive about themselves as a sexual partner. Slightly more than a fourth reported experiencing at least one sexual functioning difficulty and almost three-fourths of them found those difficulties sexually distressing. A first canonical correlation showed that more negative pain characteristics were associated with poorer SWB. The second canonical correlation showed that greater perceived partner support can offset the negative relationship between pain and some aspects of SWB. Clinical implications These findings show that individuals living with chronic pain can experience positive SWB. Furthermore, the buffering effect of partner support suggests it is important to involve romantic partners in interventions aimed at improving the SWB of people living with chronic pain. Strengths and limitations The study examined a large number of indicators of SWB using a sample of individuals with different types of chronic pain. Limitations include potential self-selection bias and a sample that was predominantly white and highly educated. Conclusions The results paint a more positive picture of the SWB of individuals living with pain and show that individuals living with chronic pain can experience positive SWB. STUDY QUESTION Does offering the Pleasure&Pregnancy (P&P) programme rather than expectant management improve naturally conceived ongoing pregnancy rates in couples diagnosed with unexplained infertility? SUMMARY ANSWER The P&P programme had no effect on the ongoing pregnancy rates of couples with unexplained infertility. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Underpowered studies suggested that face-to-face interventions targeting sexual health may increase pregnancy rates. The impact of an eHealth sexual health programme had yet to be evaluated by a large randomized controlled trial. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION This is a nationwide multi-centre, unblinded, randomized controlled superiority trial (web-based randomization programme, 1:1 allocation ratio). This RCT intended to recruit 1164 couples within 3 years but was put on hold after having included 700 couples over 5 years (2016–2021). The web-based P&P programme contains psychosexual information and couple communication, mindfulness and sensate focus exercises aiming to help maintain or improve sexual health, mainly pleasure, and hence increase pregnancy rates. The P&P programme additionally offers information on the biology of conception and enables couples to interact online with peers and via email with coaches. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS Heterosexual couples with unexplained infertility and a Hunault-prognosis of at least 30% chance of naturally conceiving a live-born child within 12 months were included, after their diagnostic work-up in 41 Dutch secondary and tertiary fertility centres. The primary outcome was an ongoing pregnancy, defined as a viable intrauterine pregnancy of at least 12 weeks duration confirmed by an ultrasound scan, conceived naturally within 6 months after randomization. Secondary outcomes were time to pregnancy, live birth, sexual health, and personal and relational well-being at baseline and after 3 and 6 months. The primary analyses were according to intention-to-treat principles. We calculated relative risks (RRs, pregnancy rates) and a risk difference (RD, pregnancy rates), Kaplan–Meier survival curves (live birth over time), and time, group, and interactive effects with mixed models analyses (sexual health and well-being). MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE Totals of 352 (one withdrawal) and 348 (three withdrawals) couples were allocated to, respectively the P&P group and the expectant management group. Web-based tracking of the intervention group showed a high attrition rate (57% of couples) and limited engagement (i.e. median of 16 visits and 33 min total visitation time per couple). Intention-to-treat analyses showed that 19.4% (n = 68/351) of the P&P group and 22.6% (n = 78/345) of the expectant management group achieved a naturally conceived ongoing pregnancy (RR = 0.86; 95% CI = 0.64–1.15, RD = −3.24%; 95% CI −9.28 to 2.81). The time to pregnancy did not differ between the groups (Log rank = 0.23). Live birth occurred in 18.8% (n = 66/351) of the couples of the P&P group and 22.3% (n = 77/345) of the couples of the expectant management group (RR = 0.84; 95% CI = 0.63–1.1). Intercourse frequency decreased equally over time in both groups. Sexual pleasure, orgasm, and satisfaction of women of the P&P group improved while these outcomes remained stable in the expectant management group. Male orgasm, intercourse satisfaction, and overall satisfaction decreased over time with no differences between groups. The intervention did not affect personal and relational well-being. Non-compliance by prematurely starting medically assisted reproduction, and clinical loss to follow-up were, respectively, 15.1% and 1.4% for the complete study population. Per protocol analysis for the primary outcome did not indicate a difference between the groups. Comparing the most engaged users with the expectant management group added that coital frequency decreased less, and that male sexual desire improved in the intervention group. LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION The intended sample size of 1164 was not reached because of a slow recruitment rate. The achieved sample size was, however, large enough to exclude an improvement of more than 8% of the P&P programme on our primary outcome. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS The P&P programme should not be offered to increase natural pregnancy rates but may be considered to improve sexual health. The attrition from and limited engagement with the P&P programme is in line with research on other eHealth programmes and underlines the importance of a user experience study. In a cross-sectional study, researchers investigated pregnant women's quality of sexual life and marital adjustment. The sample consisted of 312 pregnant women admitted to the gynecology and obstetrics outpatient clinic of State Hospital between June and November 2020. Data were collected using a personal information form, the Quality Scale-Female (SQLQ-F), and Marriage Adjustment Test (MAT). Participants with one child had a significantly higher median SQLQ-F score than those with three or more children. Participants with 8–12 wk of pregnancy had a significantly higher median SQLQ-F score than those with 25 wk of pregnancy or longer (p < 0.05). There was a positive correlation between SQLQ-F and MAT scores (r = 0.447. p < 0.001), suggesting that the higher the quality of sexual life, the better the marital adjustment. Masturbation – self-sexual stimulation of the genitalia – literature is underdeveloped, especially in terms of non-Western samples. More importantly, there remains very little or no research about how masturbation as a sexual practice contributes to understanding the gender dynamics of sexual choices in Africa. Using the African feminist resistance framework of 'radical rudeness', developed by the Ugandan feminist Stella Nyanzi, this paper, through a scoping review of twenty-five studies, aims to review and synthesise the literature on masturbation discourse by identifying the socio-demographic dynamics of masturbators, their understanding of masturbation and its rationale, and the agentic and innovative ways of masturbation as reflected in existing works. The author argues that masturbation offers a space to experience one's own sexual pleasure, as they push for a conceptually nuanced viewpoint about African sex. • Women with FMS have a major reduction in sexual function compared to healthy women. • Desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm and pain are the domains most affected by FMS. • Women with FMS have less sexual satisfaction than healthy women. Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a chronic condition that associates pain, sleep disturbances, and cognitive changes. Recent evidence shows that sexual dysfunction is also associated with fibromyalgia, further affecting patients' quality of life. Our aim was to explore the association between FMS and sexual dysfunction (SD) in women. A comprehensive search strategy was carried out, using the keywords "fibromyalgia" and "sexual dysfunction" and their synonyms. The databases used were MEDLINE, EMBASE, Scopus, Biomed Central, Web of Science, CINAHL, IBECS, LILACS, Congress Abstracts, and gray literature sources like Google Scholar. Studies published from January 1990 to August 2023 were considered, without imposing any language restrictions. The inclusion criteria involved studies that investigated individuals diagnosed with FMS and who suffered from sexual dysfunction, while studies that did not meet these criteria were excluded. The methodological quality of the included studies was assessed using the New Castle Ottawa tool. The results were presented in tables and forest graphs generated by the RevMan 5.4 software. 27 studies were included, 10 of which were case-control and 17 were cross-sectional. These studies were published between 2005 and 2023, with participants aged between 18 and 81 years. Patients with FMS performed markedly worse than healthy controls in all domains of sexual dysfunction assessed. The methodological quality of the included studies was classified as moderate to high. Compared to healthy women, the findings indicate a negative correlation between sexual dysfunction and fibromyalgia. These results underscore the significance of addressing sexual disturbances as a source of distress in the context of fibromyalgia syndrome. It becomes evident that incorporating psychological therapies that encompass emotional, physical, and sexual health could be a pivotal component in the comprehensive treatment of fibromyalgia syndrome. This study aims to test the predictive capacity of the attachment theory in delineating the line between normal and pathological love as well as testing the moderating role of gender in the link between insecure attachment and sexual satisfaction. We administered to a sample of 307 adults the Attachment Style Questionnaire (ASQ), the Love Addiction Inventory (LAI), the Passionate Love Scale (PLS), and the New Sexual Satisfaction Scale (NSSS). We found that some subscales of the ASQ predict LAI scores and that the relationship between passionate love and love addiction was positively moderated by insecure styles of attachment (i.e. discomfort for closeness, preoccupation for relationships, and need for approval). In addition, insecure attachment was negatively related to sexual satisfaction. However, moderation analyses evidenced that the relationship between attachment avoidance and low sexual satisfaction was positive only among males. The study confirmed the utility of the attachment perspective in the understanding of the processes underlying romantic relationships. Results also suggest that the quality of attachment style may be a key factor in differentiating normal from pathological love and that the impact of avoidant attachment style on sexual satisfaction may follow different pathways according to gender. Shame is an intensely painful emotion that adversely impacts mental health and social relationships. Although shame proneness is associated with insecure attachment and sexual satisfaction, independently, no research has examined how shame proneness relates to both of these constructs simultaneously. Such an investigation is necessary due to pervasive cultural messaging that intertwines shame, attachment, and sexuality. The present study addressed this gap in the literature through testing a moderated mediation model with an online sample of 384 American adults. Results indicate that sexual self-esteem mediated the relationship between insecure attachment style and sexual satisfaction among the present sample. Shame proneness moderated the relationship between avoidant attachment and sexual satisfaction. The relationship between body appreciation and sexual satisfaction in cisgender heterosexual women is established, but little is known about sexual and gender minorities assigned female at birth (SGM-AFAB). Additionally, most studies focus primarily on partnered sexual experience, while sexual satisfaction from masturbation remains understudied. We addressed these gaps by examining, among SGM-AFAB, the relationship between body appreciation and sexual satisfaction from both partnered sex and masturbation, as well as how perceived social support and gender identity (cisgender vs. gender minority) moderated this relationship. Participants (N = 287, Mage = 25.74, 79.1% cisgender) responded to an online survey assessing their sexual satisfaction from partnered sex and from masturbation. We found that higher body appreciation was associated with higher sexual satisfaction both from partnered sex and from masturbation. Exploratory moderation analysis revealed that, for gender minority AFAB (but not sexual minority cisgender women), the positive relationship between body appreciation and sexual satisfaction from masturbation only existed in those with low levels of social support. Taken together, the findings highlight the critical role of body appreciation in sexual satisfaction for SGM-AFAB, especially gender minority (e.g., transgender and non-binary) individuals who lack social support. This article explores female sexuality during state-socialist rule in Croatia and Poland. Using life-course framework and qualitative data from individual interviews with 35 women aged 65–93, we investigate a complex interplay of socialist puritanism, officially proclaimed gender equality, and a patriarchal cultural tradition based on a restrictive religious morality, and the role it played in women's perception of sexuality, sexual expression, and pleasure. In the private sphere, the process of socialist modernization (and its gender egalitarian ideology) was frequently neutralized by the post-World War II austerity and conservative family socialization—with long-term consequences for female sexuality. Sexual communication is associated with higher levels of sexual and relationship satisfaction. However, research suggests that many struggle with sexual communication. Using a cross-country convenience sample of 7,139 respondents from six European countries (Denmark, Finland, France, Norway, Sweden, and the UK), we investigated sociodemographic predictors of different facets of sexual communication and their associations with sexual, relationship, and life satisfaction. Data was collected in May and June 2022 through respondent panels, by Cint, a market research software platform. Participants received an email invitation to the study and completed an online self-report survey. We found that a large proportion did report difficulties with sexual communication or a wish to improve such communication. We also found that sociodemographic factors predicted each facet (self-disclosure, frequency of communication, and quality of communication) of sexual communication as a set, but that the strongest predictors were sexual frequency and dissatisfaction with the low frequency of sex. Lastly, each facet of sexual communication was associated with higher levels of sexual, relationship, and life satisfaction. Across results, we generally found little cross-country variation. This study aims to assess the patterns of life satisfaction with life (SwL), sexual satisfaction, and adjustment to aging (AtA), of older adults in Mexico and Portugal. A sample of 658 older adults, aged 65 years-old and older, from Mexico and Portugal were recruited for this cross-cultural study. The following measures were applied: (a) Adjustment to Aging Scale (ATAS); (b) Satisfaction with Life Scale (SwLS); (c) New Sexual Satisfaction Scale (NSSS); (d) Mini-Mental State Exam; and (e) Sociodemographic, health and lifestyle questionnaire. Clusters were identified and characterized by using K-means cluster analysis, encompassing SwL, AtA, and sexual satisfaction. Sexual well-being differences among clusters were analyzed with One-way ANOVAs. Findings indicated three clusters, which explained 76.4% (R-sq = 0.764) of the total variance: Cluster #1: "Moderately adjusted older adults" (n = 355, 53.9%), Cluster #2: "Moderately fulfilled older adults" (n = 265, 40.3%), and Cluster 3: "Well adjusted and satisfied older adults" (n = 38, 5.8%). Participants in Cluster #1 were mostly Mexican, with moderate levels of AtA and reduced sexual satisfaction and SwL. Conversely, Cluster #2 predominantly consisted of Portuguese participants with moderate sexual satisfaction and SwL, and lower levels of AtA. Participants from Cluster #3 were mostly Portuguese with high levels of AtA, sexual satisfaction, and SwL. This innovative study explored the intricate relationship between sexual well-being, the ability to adjust to aging, and overall SwL, in two different cultural contexts. Findings contributed to the understanding of the relationship between these three variables and for developing tailored future interventions and service planning with older adults in different cultures. Condoms are safe and effective at preventing the risk of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and pregnancy (Hatcher, 2007; Holmes et al., 2004). However, when an individual enters a committed relationship, their condom use decreases significantly (Copen, 2017; Lehmiller et al., 2014; Matser et al., 2014; Weitzman et al., 2019). We surveyed 219 heterosexual individuals in committed relationships and 87 in noncommitted sexual relationships to determine differences in their condom use patterns. We collected data on individual psychometric characteristics (condom use attitudes, sexual narcissism, perceived invulnerability, concern for sexual pleasure, condom use self-efficacy, and concern for pregnancy and STIs), individual sexual behaviors (birth control usage, type of sexual activity, number of partners, number of sexual encounters), and couple characteristics (commitment and exclusivity). We modeled the predictors using hierarchical regressions. Our model for coupled participants was significant, F(3, 150) = 10.12, p = .002, R2 = .36, and included birth control, pregnancy, and condom use attitudes as significant predictors. Our model for single individuals was also significant, F(3, 82) = 18.02, p < .001, R2 = .38, and included STI concern, pregnancy concern, and condom use attitudes as significant predictors. Understanding predictors of when college-aged individuals in committed and casual relationships chose to use condoms may allow researchers to be able to create better, targeted tactics to promote condom use in the future. Background: Restless genital syndrome (RGS), also known as persistent genital arousal disorder, is a distressing condition characterized by unwanted genital arousal in the absence of sexual desire. This study explores the prevalence of RGS in women with restless legs syndrome (RLS), investigates the associated psychological impacts, and assesses the overall effect on quality of life. Methods: This retrospective study included 69 female patients who were diagnosed with RLS at two university medical centers. Data were collected via the RGS diagnostic form, Beck Depression Inventory, Beck Anxiety Inventory, and WHOQOL-BREF quality of life scale. Statistical analyses were used to assess the correlation between RGS and psychological health measures. Results: Approximately 44.9% of the participants with RLS also reported symptoms of RGS. Significant findings included increased nighttime and rest-related exacerbation of RGS symptoms. Compared with those without RGS, participants with RGS presented significantly higher anxiety and depression scores. Moreover, RGS significantly impacted physical health and social relationships, as indicated by lower WHOQOL-BREF scores. Conclusion: This study highlights a significant overlap between RGS and RLS, with substantial impacts on psychological well-being and quality of life. These findings underscore the importance of considering RGS in the clinical management of RLS, suggesting a need for integrated treatment strategies to address both the neurological and the psychological aspects of these conditions. Background: People living with HIV (PLHIV) have historically faced a range of challenges negotiating satisfying sex lives in the context of virus transmission risks and HIV-related stigma. We examine the experience of sexual satisfaction among PLHIV in an era of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and undetectable=untransmissible (U=U)/treatment as prevention. Methods: Data are derived from HIV Futures 9, a cross-sectional survey of PLHIV in Australia conducted between December 2018 and May 2019. Logistic regression was used to identify factors associated with sexual satisfaction, including awareness of/engagement with U=U and PrEP as well as experiences that denote HIV-related stigma. Results: Over half (56.5%) of the total sample (n = 715) reported they were not satisfied with their sex lives. Those who avoided sex because of their HIV status (44.4%) were more likely to report sexual dissatisfaction, as were those who were aged 50 years or over and those with worse self-reported health. Participants who expressed a concern about their drug use were more likely to report sexual dissatisfaction when compared with those who expressed no such concern. Conclusions: Concerns about HIV continue to be present in the lives of PLHIV and can interrupt or undermine intimate and sexual relationships. Although biomedical prevention technologies such as PrEP and antiretroviral therapy may alleviate anxiety relating to onward transmission of HIV, these findings indicate that concerns about HIV status, which may be related to experiences of stigma, are still adversely associated with enjoyment of sex for those living with HIV. For people living with HIV (PLHIV), sexual satisfaction can be challenging because of stigma, discrimination, or fears surrounding onward transmission. This article investigates sexual satisfaction among PLHIV, demonstrating high levels of sexual dissatisfaction associated with avoiding sex due to HIV status, concerns about drug use, older age, and poor self-reported health. These findings highlight that supporting PLHIV extends beyond biomedical considerations (e.g. HIV treatment), demanding a holistic approach that tackles stigma and other health concerns.
