RationaleHIV and cardiometabolic disorders including hypertension and diabetes pose a serious double threat in Malawi. Supportive couple relationships may be an important resource for managing these conditions. According to the theory of communal coping, couples will more effectively manage illness if they view the illness as "our problem" (shared illness appraisal) and are united in shared behavioral efforts.MethodsThis study qualitatively investigated communal coping of 25 couples living with HIV and hypertension or diabetes in Zomba, Malawi. Partners were interviewed separately regarding relationship quality, shared illness appraisal, communal coping, and dyadic management of illness.ResultsMost participants (80%) were living with HIV, and more than half were also living with hypertension. Most participants expressed high levels of unity and the view that illness was "our problem." In some couples, partners expected but did not extend help and support and reported little collaboration. Communal coping and dyadic management were strongly gendered. Some women reported a one-sided support relationship in which they gave but did not receive support. Women were also more likely to initiate support interactions and offered more varied support than men. In couples with poor relationship quality and weak communal coping, dyadic management of illness was also weak. Partner support was particularly crucial for dietary changes, as women typically prepared meals for the entire family. Other lifestyle changes that could be supported or hindered by a partner included exercise, stress reduction, and medication adherence.ConclusionWe conclude that gendered power imbalances may influence the extent to which couple-level ideals translate into actual communal coping and health behaviors. Given that spouses and families of patients are also at risk due to shared environments, we call for a shift from an illness management paradigm to a paradigm of optimizing health for spouses and families regardless of diabetes or hypertension diagnosis.

This study aims to test the predictive capacity of the attachment theory in delineating the line between normal and pathological love as well as testing the moderating role of gender in the link between insecure attachment and sexual satisfaction. We administered to a sample of 307 adults the Attachment Style Questionnaire (ASQ), the Love Addiction Inventory (LAI), the Passionate Love Scale (PLS), and the New Sexual Satisfaction Scale (NSSS). We found that some subscales of the ASQ predict LAI scores and that the relationship between passionate love and love addiction was positively moderated by insecure styles of attachment (i.e. discomfort for closeness, preoccupation for relationships, and need for approval). In addition, insecure attachment was negatively related to sexual satisfaction. However, moderation analyses evidenced that the relationship between attachment avoidance and low sexual satisfaction was positive only among males. The study confirmed the utility of the attachment perspective in the understanding of the processes underlying romantic relationships. Results also suggest that the quality of attachment style may be a key factor in differentiating normal from pathological love and that the impact of avoidant attachment style on sexual satisfaction may follow different pathways according to gender. Shame is an intensely painful emotion that adversely impacts mental health and social relationships. Although shame proneness is associated with insecure attachment and sexual satisfaction, independently, no research has examined how shame proneness relates to both of these constructs simultaneously. Such an investigation is necessary due to pervasive cultural messaging that intertwines shame, attachment, and sexuality. The present study addressed this gap in the literature through testing a moderated mediation model with an online sample of 384 American adults. Results indicate that sexual self-esteem mediated the relationship between insecure attachment style and sexual satisfaction among the present sample. Shame proneness moderated the relationship between avoidant attachment and sexual satisfaction. The relationship between body appreciation and sexual satisfaction in cisgender heterosexual women is established, but little is known about sexual and gender minorities assigned female at birth (SGM-AFAB). Additionally, most studies focus primarily on partnered sexual experience, while sexual satisfaction from masturbation remains understudied. We addressed these gaps by examining, among SGM-AFAB, the relationship between body appreciation and sexual satisfaction from both partnered sex and masturbation, as well as how perceived social support and gender identity (cisgender vs. gender minority) moderated this relationship. Participants (N = 287, Mage = 25.74, 79.1% cisgender) responded to an online survey assessing their sexual satisfaction from partnered sex and from masturbation. We found that higher body appreciation was associated with higher sexual satisfaction both from partnered sex and from masturbation. Exploratory moderation analysis revealed that, for gender minority AFAB (but not sexual minority cisgender women), the positive relationship between body appreciation and sexual satisfaction from masturbation only existed in those with low levels of social support. Taken together, the findings highlight the critical role of body appreciation in sexual satisfaction for SGM-AFAB, especially gender minority (e.g., transgender and non-binary) individuals who lack social support. Sexual communication is associated with higher levels of sexual and relationship satisfaction. However, research suggests that many struggle with sexual communication. Using a cross-country convenience sample of 7,139 respondents from six European countries (Denmark, Finland, France, Norway, Sweden, and the UK), we investigated sociodemographic predictors of different facets of sexual communication and their associations with sexual, relationship, and life satisfaction. Data was collected in May and June 2022 through respondent panels, by Cint, a market research software platform. Participants received an email invitation to the study and completed an online self-report survey. We found that a large proportion did report difficulties with sexual communication or a wish to improve such communication. We also found that sociodemographic factors predicted each facet (self-disclosure, frequency of communication, and quality of communication) of sexual communication as a set, but that the strongest predictors were sexual frequency and dissatisfaction with the low frequency of sex. Lastly, each facet of sexual communication was associated with higher levels of sexual, relationship, and life satisfaction. Across results, we generally found little cross-country variation. This study aims to assess the patterns of life satisfaction with life (SwL), sexual satisfaction, and adjustment to aging (AtA), of older adults in Mexico and Portugal. A sample of 658 older adults, aged 65 years-old and older, from Mexico and Portugal were recruited for this cross-cultural study. The following measures were applied: (a) Adjustment to Aging Scale (ATAS); (b) Satisfaction with Life Scale (SwLS); (c) New Sexual Satisfaction Scale (NSSS); (d) Mini-Mental State Exam; and (e) Sociodemographic, health and lifestyle questionnaire. Clusters were identified and characterized by using K-means cluster analysis, encompassing SwL, AtA, and sexual satisfaction. Sexual well-being differences among clusters were analyzed with One-way ANOVAs. Findings indicated three clusters, which explained 76.4% (R-sq = 0.764) of the total variance: Cluster #1: "Moderately adjusted older adults" (n = 355, 53.9%), Cluster #2: "Moderately fulfilled older adults" (n = 265, 40.3%), and Cluster 3: "Well adjusted and satisfied older adults" (n = 38, 5.8%). Participants in Cluster #1 were mostly Mexican, with moderate levels of AtA and reduced sexual satisfaction and SwL. Conversely, Cluster #2 predominantly consisted of Portuguese participants with moderate sexual satisfaction and SwL, and lower levels of AtA. Participants from Cluster #3 were mostly Portuguese with high levels of AtA, sexual satisfaction, and SwL. This innovative study explored the intricate relationship between sexual well-being, the ability to adjust to aging, and overall SwL, in two different cultural contexts. Findings contributed to the understanding of the relationship between these three variables and for developing tailored future interventions and service planning with older adults in different cultures. Purpose: Erectile function changes after prostate cancer (PCa) treatment are well documented, but less understood is the relative impact of prostate biopsy and active surveillance on sexual well-being. It is unknown whether potential negative impacts are exclusive to patients who have been treated for PCa, or whether the diagnosis itself or the experience of biopsy may also impact sexual well-being. Sexual satisfaction is an important yet understudied indicator of sexual well-being in this population. This study examines sexual satisfaction and its predictors across several comparison groups to explore relative impact. Methods: At baseline and 12 months, questionnaire data was collected in four samples: (1) following PCa treatment, (2) active surveillance, (3) negative prostate biopsy result, and (4) controls receiving no biopsy or treatment. Predictors assessed included group, erectile function, communication style, and partner involvement. Results: Sexual satisfaction declined in the active treatment group, no changes were observed in active surveillance or non-PCa control, and improvements were observed in the biopsy group. Predictors of sexual satisfaction over and above erectile function included restrictive communication (i.e. protective buffering) and perceived partner involvement. For higher levels of erectile function, a higher perceived degree of partner involvement was protective of sexual satisfaction. Conclusion: Sexual satisfaction is an important indicator of sexual well-being and is negatively impacted following PCa treatment, but not active surveillance or prostate biopsy. Implications for Cancer Survivors: Communication and partner involvement are potentially modifiable factors to be considered for intervention and may promote sexual satisfaction following PCa treatment. Patients experiencing negative biopsy, who note lower sexual satisfaction may experience improved satisfaction with time, and those under active surveillance who worry about sexual satisfaction may find reassurance from these results. However, the absence of validated guidelines and the controversy surrounding vaginoplasty surgery have limited our understanding of the long‐term outcomes and impact on quality of life and psychosexual functioning for women with a short or absent vagina. This study provides valuable insights into the Australian context, reflecting the treatment approaches and long‐term psychosocial outcomes for this patient group.This study aimed to assess the long‐term effects of vaginal dilation, with or without vaginoplasty surgery, on quality of life and psychosexual functioning in women diagnosed with a short or absent vagina.A mixed‐methods design was employed, utilising validated psychometric tools and a semi‐structured interview. The study included patients with disorders of sex development aged above 16 who underwent vaginal dilator therapy between 2012 and 2020, as well as healthy age‐matched controls. The research was conducted at a single tertiary hospital in Sydney, NSW, Australia.The questionnaire was completed by 30 participants, including 11 non‐surgical cases, four surgical cases, and 15 controls. The mean age at inclusion was 30.8 ± 14.1 years. The non‐surgical group exhibited significantly higher scores indicating a greater ‘need for help’ compared to the surgical group (30.0 ± 19.3 and 4.5 ± 9.0; P = 0.0121). No other statistically significant differences were observed between the two groups.Choice of treatment should consider various factors, including patient preference and responsiveness to treatment. These findings emphasise the importance of personalised care in the Australian context and highlight the need for further research, particularly with larger and more homogenous sample sizes, to enhance clinical decision‐making in this population. Objective: Sexual functioning is a multifaceted aspect of human life that can be profoundly affected in patients with glioma. Most frequent symptoms include reduced sexual desire, difficulties in sexual arousal, or low satisfaction. Such symptoms may cause distress or interpersonal difficulties, inevitably resulting in negative outcomes on different domains of patients' quality of life. Despite this, sexuality is rarely addressed by medical staff and remains understudied. An important question still unanswered is whether sexual dysfunctions in glioma patients correlate with features of the tumor itself, with its treatment, or with the secondary effects of the tumor on the patient's psychological status. To answer this question, the present study aims to investigate the incidence of sexual life impairments in a very large population of patients with low- and high-grade gliomas, focusing on demographic, clinical, and treatment factors associated with their occurrence and developments. Methods: A total of 148 patients treated for glioma were evaluated for sexual functioning, i.e., sexual dysfunction (SD), relationship status (RS), intercourse frequency (IF), and sexual satisfaction (SS), by using a specific anonymous questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were utilized to investigate participant characteristics and to evaluate the occurrence of sexual problems. Chi-squared tests were performed to detect the association between "SS" or "IF" and different clinical/demographic factors as well as between "SS" or "IF" and the "subjective–personal skills judgment". Results: Results showed no difference between male and female patients, a very low frequency (1.4%) of SD, but a consistent percentage (25%) of subjective deterioration in sexual wellbeing. Notably, 24% of patients reported to have interrupted their relationship after the diagnosis. Chi-squared analyses reveal an association between adjuvant treatments (chemotherapy and radiotherapy) and reduction of IF. Interestingly, "SS" or "IF" was not associated with demographic, clinical, or histomolecular factors. Conclusion: Our study showed that sexual problems in glioma patients are not uncommon, and they are especially linked to SS, RS, and IF. Specifically, intercourse frequency reduction is associated with the adjuvant treatments. AbstractSexual health among lesbian and bisexual (LB) women has largely been studied in the context of sexual health behaviors. Less is known about aspects of sexual health such as sexual satisfaction and minority stress processes as possible predictors of sexual satisfaction. This study explored sexual satisfaction and minority stress in LB women. Single and partnered cisgender LB women (N = 627) were compared on measures of sexual satisfaction and proximal minority stress (i.e., internalized homonegativity and outness/concealment). The proximal minority stress variables were tested as predictors of sexual satisfaction in a regression analysis. Multigroup analyses were also conducted to explore differences between lesbian and bisexual women in the regression analysis. Participants were recruited through LGBT+ websites and other social media platforms in Norway. Results showed that lesbian women were more open about their sexual orientation, reported greater identification with the LGBT+ community, and were more sexually satisfied than bisexual women. Those with a steady partner were also more sexually satisfied than those who were single. Being younger, partnered and experiencing less internalized homonegativity (IH) predicted greater satisfaction in LB women overall, and no differences in the predictors across sexual orientation were found in the multigroup analysis. Purpose of Review: Despite the growing attention toward minority stress, there remains a scarcity of studies on its associations with sexual wellbeing. This scoping review aimed to examine the empirical literature from the last five years concerning how minority stress may relate to sexual wellbeing among adults. Recent Findings: Results from the 13 peer-reviewed articles were inconsistent. Internalized negativity (e.g., homophobia) showed varying associations with sexual satisfaction and function. Concealing one's sexual identity was linked to lower sexual satisfaction and sexual function. Fear of being rejected was associated with worse sexual function. Prejudice-related events were negatively associated with sexual satisfaction and function, and positively with sexual distress. Personal discomfort with one's non-monogamous engagement did not correlate with sexual satisfaction. Summary: Findings suggest that greater minority stress tends to be related to lower sexual wellbeing, albeit inconsistently. Background: Two male contraceptive methods that inhibit spermatogenesis currently exist: thermal male contraception and hormonal male contraception. Only five studies have been conducted on the acceptability of these methods among men; among women, only the hypothetical acceptability of such a male contraceptive approach as the sole contraception method used by a couple has been evaluated. Objectives: To evaluate the motivation, experience, and satisfaction of female partners in couples using hormonal male contraception or thermal male contraception as the sole contraception. Materials and methods: In this cross‐sectional study, 123 male users of hormonal male contraception or thermal male contraception as the couple's sole contraception method were asked to invite their female partner to participate in an anonymous online survey. The questionnaire included 95 questions exploring population characteristics, contraceptive and pregnancy history, motivations for choosing hormonal male contraception or thermal male contraception, the experience of the women in the successive phase of use, relationships with their partner, and satisfaction with the contraception method. Results: The response rate among participating women was 69% (59/86). The two main reasons for choosing male contraceptive were the desire to share the contraception role in the couple (65%) and the desire of the man to take charge of the contraception (61%). The sexual satisfaction score increased significantly between the contraceptive methods used before hormonal male contraception or thermal male contraception and the phase of contraceptive use (p < 0.01). The overall satisfaction level with thermal male contraception or hormonal male contraception was rated at 3.7 ± 0.6 out of 4. Women mostly recommended hormonal male contraception or thermal male contraception because of the share of contraceptive responsibility and mental load (n = 23/54, 43%). Discussion: This population of women seemed to have struggled to find a contraceptive method that suited them, but most took advantage of thermal male contraception or hormonal male contraception and trusted their male partner to take charge of contraception use. Conclusion: The positive evaluation from women in partnerships using thermal male contraception and hormonal male contraception should encourage the development of these methods. Purpose: Breast cancer and its treatments can cause sexual problems both physically and psychologically by the changes it brings. This study aimed to investigate the effect of sexual health counseling based on acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) on the sexual satisfaction of women with chemotherapy-induced menopause (CIM) in breast cancer survivors. Methods: Seventy women with CIM were randomly divided into two intervention (N = 34) and control (N = 36) groups. The intervention group attended eight sessions of 90-min sexual health counseling based on ACT. The control group received an educational booklet. The Sexual Satisfaction Scale for Women(SSS-W), the Sexual Quality of Life-Female questionnaire(SQOL-F), and the Menopause Rating Scale(MRS) were used to collect data before, after, and 1 month after the intervention in both groups. Results: The mean score of sexual satisfaction (F = 45.67, P < 0.001) and sexual quality of life (F = 33.39, P < 0.001) were significantly higher after the intervention and follow-up than before intervention in the intervention group. Also, the mean score of menopausal symptoms was significantly lower after the intervention and follow-up than before intervention in the intervention group (F = 11.80, P < 0.001). However, the mean score of sexual satisfaction (F = 0.02, P = 0.98), sexual quality of life (F = 0.05, P = 0.94), and menopausal symptoms (F = 0.08, P = 0.92) did not show significant differences before, after, and 1 month after the intervention in the control group. Conclusions: Therefore, sexual health counseling based on ACT seems to have salutary effect on sexual satisfaction, sexual quality of life, and menopausal symptoms of women with breast cancer who experience CIM. This paper explores women's agentic practices in expressing their sexual dissatisfaction in the context of male sexual 'non-performance'. Much scholarly work on male sexual 'non-performance' in Tanzanian context largely focus on the voices of men in making sense of their sexual performance concerns. Common limitations of these studies are isolating women from male sexual 'non-performance' and their narrow focus on the voices of women. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork in Tanzania, and building on the Afro-feminism perspective, this article demonstrates women's cheating habits, breaking up with their partners, naming and shaming and, participating in non-sexual intimate matters as agentic practices of their sexual dissatisfaction in heterosexual relationships. While these practices that women devise to handle their male partner's sexual 'non-performance' challenge the patriarchal structures of sexuality and gender relations on the one hand, they performatively reproduce them on the other hand. The findings of this paper indicate that women are active social actors, who are often sexually expressive and devise various agentic practices for handling their partners' sexual 'non-performance'. In a nutshell, women's viewpoints in this paper highlight the need to further consider how women demand and achieve sexual satisfaction in their sexual relationships. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and Aim: Several factors influence women's perception of their genitalia. Understanding the elements associated with genital self‑image (GSI) can significantly contribute to enhancing women's sexual experiences. Therefore, the present study aimed to identify the predictors of GSI in Iranian women. Materials and methods: This online cross-sectional study was conducted on 722 healthy married reproductive-aged women with records in Amol-Iran health centers during 2022. Participants were selected using a random sampling method from all the healthcare centers. Data were collected through a checklist of socio-demographic and obstetrics information, the Female Genital Self-Image Scale (FGSI), the 6-item Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI-6), the Female Sexual Distress Scale – revised (FSDS-R), and the Multidimensional Sexual Self-Concept Questionnaire (MSSCQ) for assessing sexual esteem and sexual satisfaction. The general linear model was employed to assess the impact of each independent variable (socio-demographic and obstetrics characteristics, sexual function, sexual distress, sexual esteem, and sexual satisfaction) on the dependent variable (GSI). Results: The mean score of GSI was 21.70 ± 3.82. Based on the Pearson correlation test, there were significant correlations between GSI and sexual function, sexual esteem, sexual satisfaction, and sexual distress (r = 0.20, r = 0.43, r = 0.42, r = -0.28 respectively; p < 0.001). Using the adjusted general linear model, with the increasing scores of sexual esteem and sexual satisfaction, the GSI score also increased (β = 0.19, 95% CI: 0.10 to 0.27, β = 0.14, 95% CI: 0.06 to 0.22, respectively; p < 0.001). Additionally, age, abnormal vaginal discharge, genital feedback from partners, and satisfaction with body image were identified as other predictors of GSI. Conclusion: Based on the study results, it was observed that sexual esteem, sexual satisfaction, and certain socio-demographic variables served as predictors of GSI. Consequently, considering the potential impact of GSI on various aspects of women's lives, healthcare providers can enhance their counseling techniques to improve GSI by gaining an appropriate understanding of the factors that influence it. Perceived Partner Responsiveness (PPR) is an important attribute of intimate relationships. While measured globally in most studies, evidence suggests that responsiveness to different needs may have differential effects on relational and sexual outcomes. In this article, we argue for differentiating between PPR targeting affiliation-, sexuality-, and exploration-related needs. We developed new scales to measure PPR to each of these needs, and conducted two studies to test their reliability and validity. Our results offered initial support for the psychometric properties of the new scales and additional insights on the association between the different types of PPR and relationship and sexual satisfaction. Background: Pregnancy loss affects 1 in 4 women and is linked with poorer overall health and relationship outcomes. Despite sexual well-being's importance to health, how sexual well-being changes across time after a pregnancy loss and what might predict such changes, like perinatal grief, have never been examined, leaving practitioners and couples without knowledge of what to expect. Aim: We aimed to examine (1) how sexual satisfaction, sexual desire, sexual distress, and perinatal grief change from 10 to 25 weeks postloss for both couple members; and (2) if perinatal grief levels at 10 weeks postloss predict sexual well-being trajectories. Methods: Women and gender-diverse individuals who were pregnant when a pregnancy loss occurred (within the last 4 months) and men, women, and gender-diverse partners who were not pregnant (N = 132 couples) independently completed 4 monthly assessments of sexual well-being and perinatal grief. Outcomes: Outcomes included sexual satisfaction (Global Measure of Sexual Satisfaction), sexual desire (Sexual Desire Inventory), sexual distress (Sexual Distress Scale–Short Form), perinatal grief (Perinatal Grief Scale). Results: Dyadic growth curve modeling indicated that, from 10 to 25 weeks postloss, both couple members' sexual satisfaction increased, and their sexual desire remained stable; sexual distress decreased for partners but remained stable for individuals who were pregnant; and both couple members' perinatal grief decreased. Perinatal grief levels at 10 weeks postloss did not predict sexual well-being trajectories over time. Clinical Implications: Given sexual well-being's dynamic nature, clinicians should regularly discuss sexuality with both couple members after pregnancy loss. During such discussions, clinicians could reassure couples about their sexual relationship's recovery by sharing that, on average, sexual satisfaction, sexual desire, and sexual distress tend to improve or stay the same (rather than worsen) from 10 to 25 weeks postloss. They can also share that perinatal grief tends to decrease during this time and is unrelated to trajectories of sexual satisfaction, sexual desire, and sexual distress. Strengths and limitations: This is the first study, to our knowledge, to examine how sexual well-being changes across time after a pregnancy loss and perinatal grief's role in such changes. The results may not generalize broadly, as most couples were in mixed-gender/sex relationships, identified as White, and were relatively affluent. Conclusion: From 10 to 25 weeks postloss, both couple members tend to experience improvements in their overall sexual well-being and declines in their perinatal grief. There is a well-researched relationship between sexual satisfaction and relationship satisfaction, and recent literature has explored how body image impacts this relationship. The purpose of this study was to assess the degree to which the body dissatisfaction-sexual satisfaction-relationship satisfaction causal sequence varied at levels of pornography use and depression. Mechanical Turk data from a related study was used to explore three sets of hypotheses for the variables' relationships. Surprising results prompted the exploration of a three-way interaction outside of the original hypotheses. The exploratory analysis revealed that the moderating impact of pornography use on the relationship between body dissatisfaction, sexual satisfaction, and relationship satisfaction depends on the level of depression. Traditional sexual scripts (TSS) are associated with gender inequality for exposing women to vulnerabilities. Higher adherence to TSS has also been associated with deficits in sexual agency, contributing for decrease women's sexual health and problems with sexual satisfaction. The sexual agency is achieved through sex education, and comparing Portugal and Brazil that treat this issue in different ways may contribute to understand the role of sex education policies. This study verified and compared the association between TSSs, sexual agency and sexual satisfaction in Portuguese and Brazilian women and analyzed the predictive power of the variables on female sexual satisfaction. A cross-sectional online survey with 322 women university students, 161 Brazilian and 161 Portuguese, aged between 18 and 29, was made using measures to verify sexual scripts, sexual agency and sexual satisfaction, and data were analyzed using statistical analyses. Results indicate a significant moderate positive association between sexual satisfaction and initiation, and communion in both groups. Initiation, refusal, communion, instrumentality, and permissiveness were predictors of sexual satisfaction in Portuguese, and initiation, communion were predictors of sexual satisfaction in the Brazilian group. Despite higher rates of sex education and practices to prevent STIs and early pregnancy in the Portuguese group, there was no significant difference in adherence to sexual scripts in the groups. Compulsory sex education in Portugal contributes to increasing sexual agency in sexual practices, but programs focused on STI prevention and early pregnancy are not enough to change TSS, promote an integral agency, and sexual satisfaction. Little is known about the role of subjective sexual arousal within romantic relationships. The current paper addresses this limitation using a prospective study design that investigates the direct associations between subjective sexual arousal induced by a romantic partner (partner arousal) and arousal induced by pornography (porn arousal) on changes in relational outcomes. A total of 309 participants who were in a current romantic relationship completed measures of partner and porn arousal as well as relational outcomes (i.e., sexual satisfaction and relationship quality and stability) at baseline (T1) and completed a second assessment of relational outcomes 2 months later (T2). Partner arousal was found to have no significant associations with changes in relational outcomes; however, porn arousal was associated with significant declines in sexual satisfaction and relationship quality and stability over a 2-month period. Pornography can be used through multiple media and its associations with couples' relationship and sexual satisfaction are mixed. The aims of this study were to examine the proportion of use of different pornographic media (i.e., videos, pictures, audio material, and written material), including different contents (i.e., sexual activities and nudity), gender-based differences in the frequency of use of these media, and the associations between an individual's frequency of use of different pornographic media and their own and their partner's sexual and relationship satisfaction, considering potential gender differences. A sample of 706 adult couples (1368 participants; Mage = 32.19 years) completed online self-report questionnaires. Results of actor-partner interdependence models indicated that video use was associated with lower relationship and sexual satisfaction, and partners' lower sexual satisfaction. Picture use was associated with lower relationship satisfaction and partners' lower sexual satisfaction. Written material use was associated with lower sexual satisfaction. Cisgender women's audio use was associated with their own higher sexual satisfaction, whereas cisgender men's audio use was associated with their partner's lower sexual satisfaction. This systematic review and meta-analysis study aimed to investigate the effect of sexual counseling based on PLISSIT (Permission, Limited Information, Specific Suggestions, and Intensive Therapy) and EX-PLISSIT models on sexual function, satisfaction, and quality of sexual life. We searched seven electronic databases (MEDLINE, CINAHL, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, ProQuest, Scopus, and PubMed). Studies published between January 1, 2010, and August 16, 2022, were included in the search. Eighteen articles were eligible for inclusion in the analysis. There was a significant difference in the sexual function scores of the PLISSIT and EX-PLISSIT groups and the comparison groups (standardized mean difference (SMD): 1.677; 95% CI 0.668, 2.686; p < 0.05) and "sexual and communication satisfaction" sub-dimension of sexual life quality (SMD: 0.748; 95% CI 0.022, 1.475; p < 0.05). There was no difference in the sexual satisfaction (SMD: 0.425; 95% CI − 0.335, 1.184; p > 0.05) and quality of sexual life scores of the PLISSIT and EX-PLISSIT groups and the comparison groups (SMD: − 0.09; 95% CI − 0.211, 0.032; p > 0.05). PLISSIT and EX-PLISSIT models-based sexual counseling on sexual function was affected by the moderator variables of the time of evaluation of the results after the intervention, type of comparison group, the study population, and by whom the intervention was applied. Objective: Proper sexual functioning is among the factors affecting marital satisfaction. A satisfactory sexual relationship plays a crucial role in individuals' sexual satisfaction, increased life satisfaction, and, consequently, family stability. The aim of this study was to explore the lived experiences of women dealing with sexual separation. Methods: To this end, a qualitative research approach was employed using a descriptive phenomenological method. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with thirteen married women who reported having experienced sexual separation for more than a year and were living with their husbands at the time of the interview. Data analysis was conducted using Colaizzi's method. Findings: Ultimately, two main themes emerged: the nature of sexual separation and the reasons for sexual separation. The nature of sexual separation was divided into two sub-themes: lackluster relationship and wrong path. The reasons for sexual separation were coded into six sub-themes: personal injuries, emotional divorce, emotional wounds, beyond tolerance, unilateral pleasures, and backgrounds. Conclusion: According to the research findings, it can be inferred that sexual separation has different culturally dependent meanings. However, what stands out more prominently in the categories derived from this study is the reduction in frequency and duration of sexual relations and the lack of sexual desire and enthusiasm towards the spouse. Additionally, the factors causing sexual separation are an intertwined set of various reasons, with the most influential being emotional wounds and emotional divorce. Premature ejaculation is listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders and is one of the most common ejaculation disorders in the male population. This study aimed to describe the experiences of men with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and premature ejaculation. This is a descriptive qualitative study based on Merleau-Ponty’s hermeneutic phenomenology. Twenty-three patients diagnosed with ADHD who experience premature ejaculation participated. Thematic analysis was used for data analysis with ATLAS.ti computer software. Two main themes were drawn from the data analysis: (1) “Virility in question: ejaculation time as the measure of masculinity” and (2) “Restoring sexual identity and function”. Premature ejaculators with ADHD experience heightened emotional challenges stemming from traditional masculine norms and the social pressure to conform, which has a negative impact on their sexual well-being. Furthermore, they encounter difficulties in their relationships, resulting in sexual dissatisfaction for both partners. In a quest to reclaim their sexual identity and function, the participants sought assistance from healthcare professionals and explored potential triggers for this sexual dysfunction, including the influence of ADHD.

Abstract Background and Aim Several factors influence women’s perception of their genitalia. Understanding the elements associated with genital self‑image (GSI) can significantly contribute to enhancing women’s sexual experiences. Therefore, the present study aimed to identify the predictors of GSI in Iranian women. Materials and methods This online cross-sectional study was conducted on 722 healthy married reproductive-aged women with records in Amol-Iran health centers during 2022. Participants were selected using a random sampling method from all the healthcare centers. Data were collected through a checklist of socio-demographic and obstetrics information, the Female Genital Self-Image Scale (FGSI), the 6-item Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI-6), the Female Sexual Distress Scale – revised (FSDS-R), and the Multidimensional Sexual Self-Concept Questionnaire (MSSCQ) for assessing sexual esteem and sexual satisfaction. The general linear model was employed to assess the impact of each independent variable (socio-demographic and obstetrics characteristics, sexual function, sexual distress, sexual esteem, and sexual satisfaction) on the dependent variable (GSI). Results The mean score of GSI was 21.70 ± 3.82. Background and Aim: Orgasm is the peak of sexual arousal or behavior, whenever the peak of satisfaction is attained. Sexual satisfaction refers to the subjective experience of pleasure, contentment, and fulfillment related to one’s sexual activities and relationships and intimacy is the heart and soul of a close relationship. India is a diverse country with unique cultural, social, and economic factors that can impact women’s experiences in terms of intimacy and sexual satisfaction. The aim is to find out the relationship between orgasm in sexual satisfaction and intimacy among females in India. Materials and Methods: A descriptive research design is used for the present study. Through simple random sampling, 128 females who were married, people who can understand English, and who provided informed consent were selected for the study. The study was conducted from April 2022 to March 2023. The 20-item New Sexual Satisfaction Scale and the 36-item personal assessment of intimacy in relationships, and a semi-structured interview schedule were administered. Data were statistically analyzed using the statistical package for social services software, Version 26.0. A simple percentage analysis was used. The correlation was calculated for the variables. The Pearson correlation method was used to find the relationship between variables. A one-way ANOVA was employed to find out the significant mean difference between the demographic variables with a 95% confidence level, and P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The result reveals that there is a relationship between intimacy and sexual satisfaction. Researchers found that there is a significant difference between sexual satisfaction and age, educational qualification, family type, place of living, and orgasm. Conclusion: There exists a positive correlation between intimacy and sexual satisfaction. This study helps to create awareness and promote intimacy, orgasm, and sexual satisfaction among Indian females.

Abstract Purpose Child marriage remains a significant socio-cultural phenomenon with profound implications for the quality of marital relationships, particularly among young women. This study investigates the association between child marriage and the quality of marriage among young married women in Iran. Methods This study employed a population-based cross-sectional research design. A total of 70 young women, aged 18–20 years, who had married before reaching 18 years of age, were selected from four primary health care (PHC) centers in Papi District, Lorestan Province, Iran, employing a systematic random sampling approach. Subjects were categorized into women experiencing relationship distress and those without such distress using the Quality of Marriage Index (QMI). Concurrently, their level of sexual satisfaction was assessed utilizing the Hudson’s Index of Sexual Satisfaction (ISS). Furthermore, Social Support was evaluated using the Social Support Questionnaire (SSQ). Results The mean age (SD) of women was 18.9 (0.7) years, and their mean age (SD) of marriage was 15.2 (2.1) years. Women experiencing distress showed significant differences in age of menarche (P = 0.006), education levels (P = 0.039), spouses’ education (P = 0.025), spouses’ occupations (P = 0.004), household income satisfaction (P = 0.041), and household structure (P = 0.045). Sexual self-disclosure (SSD) is when a person shares information about their sexuality with another person. Technology-mediated communication is pervasive in modern society, yet researchers have not distinguished between SSDs that occur in-person versus in technology-mediated contexts. Using the Interpersonal Exchange Model of Sexual Satisfaction, researchers previously found that SSD predicts sexual rewards, costs, and satisfaction. In this study, we (1) compared cisgender/transgender men’s and women’s frequency (how much) and breadth (how many topics) of SSD via typed technology and in-person (H1, H2), and (2) examined the extent to which the frequency and breadth of SSD in each context predicted perceived sexual rewards, comparison of sexual rewards, and in turn sexual satisfaction while controlling for relationship satisfaction (H3, H4, H5, H6). Undergraduate students (N = 450) completed an online survey that assessed SSD in each context, perceived sexual rewards and costs, comparison of own and partner’s sexual rewards and costs, and sexual and relationship satisfaction. Participants reported more frequent and greater breadth of SSD in-person than via technology. We also found that women disclosed more sexual topics than men in-person but not through typed technology. Using path analyses, a greater frequency of SSD in-person predicted greater perceived sexual rewards and comparison sexual rewards, and in turn, greater sexual satisfaction. The frequency of SSD via typed technology and the SSD breadth in either context did not predict exchanges or sexual satisfaction.

Objectives: From a cross-cultural perspective, aging well may encompass pertinent challenges in terms of adjustment, sexual well-being, and satisfaction with life in the late years. Considering the paucity of empirical data concerning cultural diversity of experiencing aging, this study aims to help fill this gap by assessing the specific patterns of sexual satisfaction, adjustment to aging (AtA), and life satisfaction with life (SwL) of older adults in Portugal and Spain. Methods: This cross-national study included 326 older adults, age 65 and older, from Portugal and Spain. Five instruments were applied: (a) Adjustment to Aging Scale (ATAS); (b) Satisfaction with Life Scale (SwLS); (c) New Sexual Satisfaction Scale-Short (NSSS-S); (d) Mini-Mental State Exam; and (e) Sociodemographic, Health and Lifestyle questionnaire. K-means cluster analysis was employed to identify and characterize the clusters considering adjustments to aging, sexual satisfaction, and life satisfaction. One-way ANOVAs were conducted to analyze differences in sexual well-being among clusters. Results: Findings indicated three clusters, which explained 77.7% (R-sq = 0.777) of the total variance: Cluster 1: “Most skilled” (n = 26, 8.0%), Cluster 2: “Least adjusted” (n = 115, 35.3%), and Cluster 3: “Aging strivers” (n = 185, 56.7%). Participants in Cluster 1 were mostly Portuguese, with high levels of AtA, sexual satisfaction, and SWL. Conversely, Cluster 2 included mostly Portuguese participants with moderate sexual satisfaction and lower levels of AtA and SwL. Participants from Cluster 3 were mostly Spanish, with moderate levels of AtA and reduced sexual satisfaction and SwL. Conclusions: This study innovates by exploring the elaborate interplay among sexual satisfaction, AtA, and SwL in a cross-cultural perspective, with implications for tailoring interventions, service planning, development, and evaluation of culturally diverse older populations.

Abstract Background Limited gender-based research has compared sexual health among pornography users (PUs) and non-users, including non-problematic pornography users (non-PPUs) and problematic pornography users (PPUs), particularly in non-Western cultures. Methods A 2022 cross-sectional study involving 450 Iranian university students categorized participants as PUs or non-users based on 12 months of use. PUs were further classified as non-PPUs or PPUs using the 'Problematic Pornography Use Scale' cutoff point, with comparisons of demographic and sexual variables made between these groups. Results Pornography use was reported among 39.6% of students, including 51.7% of men and 33.6% of women. In general, 9.5% of participants were PPUs, including 17.4% of men and 5.6% of women. PUs were mainly men, had fewer children, shorter marriages, lower religiosity, and lower levels of education. Compared with non-users, PUs reported earlier sexual relationships, lower satisfaction with sex frequency and communication, and greater rates of extramarital relationships, masturbation, sexual desire, and sexual distress. PPUs reported more sexual desire, pornography use, masturbation, and extramarital affairs than non-PPUs. Similar patterns in demographics, sexual history, and health were observed in pornography use across genders. The regression indicated being male (OR: 2.42, 95% CI: 1.44–4.06), having lower education (OR: 0.89, 95% CI: 0.81–0.97), fewer children (OR: 0.64, 95% CI: 0.48–0.86), higher masturbation (OR: 1.31, 95% CI: 1.14–1.49), more extramarital relationship (OR: 1.69, 95% CI: 1.07–2.67), less religiosity (OR: 0.87, 95% CI: 0.82–0.93), more sexual excitement (OR: 0.79, 95% CI:0.62–1), and more sexual distress (OR: 1.20, 95% CI: 1.02–1.32) were associated with pornography use. Two-way ANOVA found no significant effects of gender or pornography use on sexual satisfaction. Women had worse sexual function regardless of usage. Pornography users, regardless of gender, experienced higher sexual distress.

Introduction: Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are more at risk of facing problems related to sexual dysfunction than their peers. This study was conducted with the aim of the effectiveness of the pulmonary rehabilitation program on the sexual satisfaction and self-efficacy of men with this disease. Materials and Methods: The present study was a randomized clinical trial. There were 40 patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease who met the conditions for entering the study and were divided into two intervention and control groups using a table of random numbers. Both groups completed sexual satisfaction and sexual self-efficacy questionnaires. For the people in the intervention group, the pulmonary rehabilitation program was implemented. Both questionnaires were completed immediately and one month after the end of the intervention by the participants in both groups. Data were analyzed using ANOVA with repeated and Bonferroni's post hoc test. Results: Most of the samples were in the range of 45-50 years. The average score of sexual satisfaction and sexual self-efficacy before the intervention was not significantly different in the two group (p>0.05). In the intervention group, the sexual satisfaction and sexual self-efficacy scores immediately and one month after the intervention were significantly higher than before the intervention (p<0.001). Conclusion: Pulmonary rehabilitation program improved the self-efficacy and sexual satisfaction of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Parent couples often struggle to maintain satisfying sex lives perhaps because partners have different priorities to balance including the self, their relationship with each other, and their relationships with their children. Given that parents are increasingly involved in supporting adult children, it is important to examine how prioritization of other's needs over one's own shapes a couple's sexual relationship. In a sample of 179 parent couples with university student children living at home, we examined whether prioritizing one's partner's (i.e., partner‐centrism) and/or their child's (i.e., child‐centrism) needs above one's own were associated with couples' sexual relationship outcomes (sexual desire, satisfaction, and frequency). The results showed that higher partner‐centrism was positively associated with sexual satisfaction for both men and women. Having a partner who prioritized them and not their child was beneficial for men's sexual relationship. In contrast, it was important for highly child‐centric women that their partner was also child‐centric. The findings highlight the importance of examining the ways in which parents prioritize their own and other family members' needs when working with couples. Sexual desire discrepancy is one of the most common, and potentially distressing, aspects of couples' sexual health. There are gaps in the literature exploring desire discrepancy specifically in distressed couples, as well as in queer (sexual and/or gender minority) couples. This study sought to gather qualitative data regarding long‐term couples' experiences with distressing desire discrepancy. Semi‐structured interviews were conducted with both heterosexual and queer partners of varying gender identities (n = 26) to fill these research gaps. Interviews included couple interviews, as well as individual interviews with partners. Data analysis was conducted with thematic analysis, which yielded four primary themes across the course of relationships: Sexual and relationship satisfaction; Changes in sexual frequency, desire, and behavior; Changes in barriers to sex; and Coping with desire discrepancy. Objective: Childhood traumas (CT), particularly sexual abuse, are linked with sexual dysfunction and reduced sexual satisfaction. This study explores the association between CT, anxiety, and sexual satisfaction in individuals with erectile dysfunction (ED). Method: The study cohort consisted of 93 patients with ED and 95 control group volunteers. Participants completed self-report forms on demographic data and sexual histories, along with the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ), the State and Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), and the Golombok-Rust Inventory of Sexual Satisfaction (GRISS). Results: Forty participants from the ED groups also had a co-diagnosis of premature ejaculation (PE). Those with co-morbid PE were categorized as a separate group (ED + PE). Physical abuse, sexual abuse, and minimization as measured by the CTQ, along with impotence, infrequency, and dissatisfaction as measured by the GRISS, were significantly lower in the control group compared to the ED and ED + PE groups (p<0.001). Anxiety scores were significantly different between the ED + PE group and both the ED and control groups (p<0.001). A history of childhood sexual abuse was linked to avoidance behavior (p<0.05). Significant correlations were observed between emotional maltreatment and PE (p<0.05), impotence and minimization (p<0.001), impotence and psychical neglect (p<0.05), and tactile avoidance and emotional neglect (p<0.01). Although many challenges inherent to the birth of a first child are likely to interfere with new parent couples' sexuality, sexual well-being has often been neglected during the transition to parenthood. Considering the numerous uncertainties arising in this period, it is relevant to study whether first-time parents' intolerance of uncertainty could contribute to their lower sexual well-being and explore whether their perception of intimacy could explain this association. The aim of this study was to investigate the roles of intolerance of uncertainty and intimacy in first-time parents' sexual well-being (i.e., sexual desire and sexual satisfaction). A total of 211 couples expecting their first child were recruited in a province of Canada to participate in a broader longitudinal study. Bearing mothers and their partners answered validated questionnaires measuring sexual desire, sexual satisfaction, intolerance of uncertainty, depression symptoms, and perceived intimacy at 4, 8, and 12 months postpartum. Dyadic path analyses revealed that, controlling for postpartum depression symptoms at 12 months postpartum, mothers' intolerance of uncertainty at 4 months postpartum was associated with both partners' lower sexual satisfaction at 12 months postpartum through their own lower perception of intimacy at 8 months postpartum. Mothers' intolerance of uncertainty at 4 months postpartum was also associated with partners' lower sexual desire at 12 months postpartum through their own lower perception of intimacy at 8 months postpartum. Better understanding these individual and interpersonal factors associated with first-time parents' sexual well-being could help in educating expecting couples and preventing sexual challenges they may encounter. Sexual satisfaction is an important dimension of sexual health. Despite there being evidence about its relations with sexual arousal, this association has not been addressed considering arousal as a trait and as a state. Therefore, the goal of this laboratory study was to examine, in young women with different levels of sexual satisfaction in their relationships, sexual arousal as a trait (i.e., propensity for sexual excitation/inhibition) and as a state (i.e., genital response and self-reported sexual arousal to a video with explicit sexual content). The sample was composed of 45 Spanish heterosexual women with a partner, from 18 to 25 years old. In the first phase, we evaluated the propensity for sexual inhibition/excitation and sexual satisfaction of the participants. In the second phase—in the context of a sexuality laboratory—the vaginal pulse amplitude, the rating of sexual arousal, and the rating of genital sensations were evaluated. The participants, distributed in three groups with different levels of sexual satisfaction (p < 0.001), were compared based on the different measures of sexual arousal. The results indicated that the group with lower sexual satisfaction, compared to the group with higher sexual satisfaction, reported more sexual inhibition due to the threat of performance failure (p = 0.011) and due to the threat of performance consequences (p = 0.038). However, no significant differences in sexual arousal status were found between the three groups. In conclusion, the negative association between sexual satisfaction and propensity for sexual inhibition in young women with a partner is supported, but not the positive association between trait/state sexual arousal and sexual satisfaction. Up to 80% of women living with chronic kidney disease (CKD) experience sexual dysfunction, though its link with sexual activity and sexual satisfaction is not well understood. Among older women with CKD treated with hemodialysis, the majority report sexual inactivity, though few describe sexual difficulty and most report high sexual satisfaction. Whether this applies to reproductive-aged females living with CKD is yet unknown. This study aimed to assess the sexual activity, function, and satisfaction of reproductive-aged females living with CKD. Self-identified females aged 18–51 years with CKD were recruited from nephrology clinics in Calgary, Canada. Sexual activity, function, and satisfaction were assessed with a modified version of the Female Sexual Function Index. Fifty-seven participants were recruited (35% CKD without kidney replacement therapy, 44% CKD treated with hemodialysis, 9% CKD treated with peritoneal dialysis, 12% CKD treated with kidney transplant) and nearly half (47%) reported sexual activity. Among sexually active participants, there was a high prevalence of sexual dysfunction (67%) and only 25% of participants reported sexual satisfaction. A strong relationship between sexual function and satisfaction was identified. Reproductive-aged females living with CKD are sexually active, though experience high rates of sexual dysfunction and dissatisfaction. Gender and perceived importance of sexuality were moderators: in men higher depression scores were associated with a decrease in sexual satisfaction, whereas in women higher depression scores were associated with an increase in sexual satisfaction. In participants for whom sexual life was important, higher depression scores were associated with a decrease in sexual satisfaction. The evolution of technology has transformed the way young adults develop and maintain relationships, including their sexuality. Since many young adults report low sexual satisfaction, it is important to understand what contributes to these negative experiences. Several studies have identified that attachment anxiety and avoidance are related to lower sexual satisfaction. However, few studies have considered technology-mediated sexual interactions (TMSI) – and the motives for doing so – in the associations between attachment and sexual satisfaction. This study explored the mediating and moderating role of TMSI (frequency and motives) in these associations in a sample of 478 young adults (Study 1) and 142 couples (Study 2). Results showed that attachment anxiety was related to a higher TMSI frequency and engaging in TMSI for avoidance motives. Engaging in TMSI for approach motives was related to higher sexual satisfaction, while engaging in TMSI for avoidance motives was related to lower sexual satisfaction. Finally, engaging in TMSI to manage distance moderated the association between attachment avoidance and sexual satisfaction. These results suggest that beyond the role of attachment anxiety and avoidance, contemporary factors related to digital technologies, such as sexting frequency and motives, are related to sexual satisfaction. This study showed that young adults who have developed insecure attachment are less sexually satisfied and more frequently use technology-mediated sexual interactions (TMSI) such as sexting with their partner, but mostly to avoid negative consequences. Risky sexual behaviors (RSBs) are a prevalent public health concern among adolescents and young adults. Dating apps, which are relatively new technological means to meet sexual partners, are on the rise among this population. However, the scientific literature is mixed regarding the association between the use of dating apps and RSBs, with most studies focusing exclusively on condom use. The present study examined the associations between dating app use and a comprehensive range of RSBs, as well as the moderating role of sexual satisfaction. Self-report questionnaires assessing the level of activity on dating apps, sexual satisfaction, and RSBs were completed by 342 adolescents and young adults. The results revealed significant positive associations between dating app use and a variety of RSBs. Sexual satisfaction was a significant moderator of the link between dating app use and impulsive sexual behaviors. Specifically, dating app use was positively associated with impulsive sexual behaviors at both low and high levels of sexual satisfaction, but more strongly so at low levels of sexual satisfaction. The findings highlight the importance of examining a wide variety of RSBs beyond condom use and have meaningful implications for the prevention of RSBs among youth. Dating app use was linked to higher levels of risky sexual behaviors, such as having multiple sexual partners. In addition, low sexual satisfaction played a role in amplifying the link between dating app use and impulsive sexual behaviors. Individual, biological, psychological, and social factors have each been associated with sexual satisfaction. In the current study we examine ways that these factors combined in the same study might be associated with understanding couples' sexual satisfaction and harmonious sexual passion by evaluating an actor-partner-interdependence-model (APIM). This model was based on data (N = 2,187 couples) collected as part of a nationally representative study of the Couple Relationships and Transition Experiences (CREATE) study. Structural equation modeling was used to assess the APIM model. The results indicated that the quality of sleep and the number of physical symptoms both partners were experiencing were substantially associated with the same individual's depression and anxiety. In turn, depression and anxiety were associated with the quality of communication and the ability to resolve conflict. These social variables had strong associations with sexual satisfaction and they, along with sexual satisfaction, were significantly associated with the couple's ability to experience harmonious sexual passion in their relationship. We examined how couples' sleep, symptoms of illness, depression and anxiety, communication and conflict were associated with couples' sexuality. With a sample of 2,187 couples, we found that sleep and symptoms of illness were associated with depression and anxiety which were associated with communication and conflict. Much of the research on mindfulness training has focused on individuals and little has evaluated mindfulness training and education in the context of romantic relationships. Mindfulness practiced by committed partners has been linked to greater empathy, perspective taking, and overall marital satisfaction. However, no relationship education program includes training on how mindfulness may benefit a couple's sexual relationship. Sexual mindfulness is a new area of research that preliminarily has shown that sexual mindfulness may benefit individuals and couples above and beyond mindfulness alone. To build on the small amount of research that indicates mindfulness and sexual mindfulness may benefit romantic relationships, we compared heterosexual couples in a mindfulness-only intervention comparison group (n = 66 individuals) to couples in a sexual-mindfulness intervention treatment group (n = 83 individuals). Couples in both groups were taught about mindfulness, communication, and effective problem solving. Participants in the treatment group were given addition information about sexual mindfulness. The two-session, six-hour intervention found that both groups improved in all metrics. The sexual-mindfulness group made greater improvements in sexual mindfulness awareness. Implications about how sexual mindfulness may benefit relationship education programs and therapists' practice are discussed. This intervention two-treatment design compared the use of mindfulness only and sexual mindfulness. Both treatments showed positive results. The sexual mindfulness treatment showed higher sexual awareness than mindfulness alone. We explored longitudinal associations between attachment, differentiation, relational satisfaction, and sexual satisfaction and desire among 286 married couples to see which of the two differing domains of attachment and differentiation of self best predict couple relationship outcomes. We observed that baseline attachment variables did not significantly predict couple sexual outcomes a year later while differentiation variables did. Specifically, husbands' emotional cutoff predicted decreased husbands' sexual desire and wives' emotional reactivity predicted decreased wives' sexual desire. Additionally, wives' emotional cutoff predicted increased wives' avoidant attachment and husbands' avoidant attachment predicted decreased wives' emotional cutoff. Implications for practitioners are discussed. Purpose: Child marriage remains a significant socio-cultural phenomenon with profound implications for the quality of marital relationships, particularly among young women. This study investigates the association between child marriage and the quality of marriage among young married women in Iran. Methods: This study employed a population-based cross-sectional research design. A total of 70 young women, aged 18–20 years, who had married before reaching 18 years of age, were selected from four primary health care (PHC) centers in Papi District, Lorestan Province, Iran, employing a systematic random sampling approach. Subjects were categorized into women experiencing relationship distress and those without such distress using the Quality of Marriage Index (QMI). Concurrently, their level of sexual satisfaction was assessed utilizing the Hudson's Index of Sexual Satisfaction (ISS). Furthermore, Social Support was evaluated using the Social Support Questionnaire (SSQ). Results: The mean age (SD) of women was 18.9 (0.7) years, and their mean age (SD) of marriage was 15.2 (2.1) years. Women experiencing distress showed significant differences in age of menarche (P = 0.006), education levels (P = 0.039), spouses' education (P = 0.025), spouses' occupations (P = 0.004), household income satisfaction (P = 0.041), and household structure (P = 0.045). Pearson's correlation coefficient analysis revealed significant and positive correlations between sexual self-efficacy and social support with marital quality (r = 0.73, p < 0.001 and r = 0.55, p < 0.001, respectively). Conversely, there was a significant negative correlation between the score of indexes of sexual satisfaction and marital quality (r = -0.65, p < 0.001). Conclusion: These findings emphasize the complex factors affecting marital quality and underscore the urgent need for interventions to support young women in early marriages.
