This study explored the complex dynamics of student engagement, community of inquiry, and transactional distance in online learning environments. The study analyzed 1,281 participants’ responses to identify the factors contributing to online learning outcomes. The research highlighted the crucial role that transactional distance and community of inquiry play in shaping students’ behavioral engagement and provided insight into their significant impact on participants’ learning experience. Through a stepwise multiple linear regression analysis, the research uncovered the complex relationships among these variables, thereby providing valuable insights for educators and institutions aiming to enhance the online learning experience. The results have significant implications for educational practitioners and policymakers, including practical strategies to increase student engagement and foster a lively community of inquiry in online learning environments. Ultimately, this research is a valuable resource for all those involved in online education, to help them understand the key factors that contribute to successful online learning experiences.

This study aims to explore the usability of the virtual robotics programming curriculum (VRP-C) for robotics programming teaching. Pre-service computer science (CS) teachers were trained for robotics programming teaching by using VRP-C in a scientific education activity. After training, views of the participants were revealed by using a scale and an evaluation form consisting of open-ended questions. Results show that VRP-C is compatible with the curriculum for robotics programming teaching in schools, and pre-service CS teachers tend to use VRP-C in their courses. They think that VRP-C will be beneficial for robotics programming teaching in terms of content, functionality, and cost. Compatibility, visual design, feedback, time management, fiction, gamification, and cost are the characteristics that increase the usability of VRP-C. VRP-C can be used as an online tool for robotics programming training due to the necessity of transition to distance education because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bu araştırmada Türkiye adresli lisansüstü tezler incelenerek bağlılık kavramı ile ilgili yürütülen araştırmaların yıllara, anabilim dallarına, örneklem gruplarına, araştırma yöntemlerine, veri toplama araçlarına, veri analiz yöntemlerine ve incelenen bağlılık türlerine göre dağılımları ortaya konulmuştur. Yükseköğretim Kurulu Başkanlığı Tez Merkezi’ndeki eğitim ve öğretim konu başlığı altında yayınlanmış tezler doküman analizi yöntemi kullanılarak incelenmiştir. Analizler çeşitli ölçütler kullanılarak ulaşılan 95 tez üzerinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Analizler sonucunda Türkiye’de bağlılık kavramının lisansüstü düzeyde 2006 yılından itibaren çalışılmaya başlandığı görülmüştür. Bağlılık kavramına yönelik olarak en fazla yüksek lisans düzeyinde araştırma gerçekleştirilmiştir. Örneklem grubu olarak öğretmenler üzerinde öğrenme ortamlarının diğer paydaşlarına göre daha fazla araştırma yürütülmüştür. Araştırma deseni olarak nicel desenler daha fazla tercih edilmiştir. Bağlılık ile ilgili veriler daha çok Likert tipindeki tutum, algı, kişilik veya yetenek testleri ile toplanmıştır. Toplanan veriler en fazla kestirimsel analizler kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Tezlerde yaygın olarak araştırılan bağlılık bileşenleri bilişsel bağlılık, davranışsal bağlılık ve duyuşsal bağlılıktır. Gerçekleştirilen inceleme ile Türkiye’deki araştırmacılara bağlılık kavramına yönelik bütüncül bir bakış açısı sunulmuş ve uluslararası düzeyde yürütülen araştırmaların ulusal düzeyde nasıl karşılık bulduğu betimlenmiştir. Araştırma sonuçları doğrultusunda ileride bağlılık kavramı ile ilgili yürütülecek araştırmalara yönelik çeşitli önerilerde bulunulmuştur.

In an effort to understand trends in open and distance education more comprehensively, this study aims to identify the research trends, major concepts, and cutoff points in the articles published between 2009 and 2016. From five major peer-reviewed journals, a total of 989 articles were analyzed through a systematic literature review process using content analysis. The articles were coded based on the following three categories: level, topics, and sub-topics. The results indicated the followings: (1) emerged main themes in the articles were foundations of open and distance education, instructional process, and effects of applications; (2) there was an upward growth in the publishing of the articles on massive open online courses, open educational resources, and students’ perspectives; (3) new pedagogical approaches and online learning design played a triggering role in the research topics; and (4) technological and pedagogical developments between 2011 and 2012 had an influence on the tendency of the articles. In addition, we explored cutoff points so that they may provide insights and valuable hints for researchers to design new studies in open and distance education field. Discussions about the gaps in the state-of-the-art trends and directions about future research were also included.
