Changing-look active galactic nuclei (CLAGNs) show the appearance and disappearance of broad emission lines in their UV/optical spectra on timescales of months to decades. Here, we investigate how CL transitions depend on several AGN parameters such as accretion rate, obscuration properties and black hole mass. We study a sample of 20 nearby optically-identified CLAGNs from the BAT AGN Spectroscopic Survey (BASS), using quasi-simultaneous optical and X-ray observations taken in the last $\sim 40$ years. We find that for all CLAGNs, the transition is accompanied by a change in Eddington ratio. The CL transitions are not associated with changes in the obscuration properties of the AGN. CLAGNs are found to have a median Eddington ratio lower than the AGNs in the BASS sample in which CL transitions were not detected. The median of the transition Eddington ratio (Eddington ratio at which AGN changes its state) is found to be $\sim 0.01$ for type 1 $\leftrightarrow$ 1.8/1.9/2 transition, which is consistent with the hard $\leftrightarrow$ soft state transition in black hole X-ray binaries. Most CL events are constrained to occur within 3-4 years, which is considerably shorter than the expected viscous timescale in AGN accretion disk. SRGe J194401.8+284452 is the brightest point-like X-ray object within the position uncertainty ellipse of an unidentified $\gamma$-ray source 4FGL J1943.9+2841. We performed multi-wavelength spectral and photometric studies to determine its nature and possible association with the $\gamma$-ray source. We firmly established its optical counterpart with the Gaia based distance of about 415 pc. Our data show that the object is a cataclysmic variable with an orbital period of about 1.5 hours. SRGe J194401.8+284452 exhibits fast spontaneous transitions between the high and low luminosity states simultaneously in the optical and X-rays, remaining relatively stable between the transitions on scales of several months/years. This can be caused by an order of magnitude changes in the accretion rate. The brightness of the source is about 17 mag and 20 mag in the optical range and $5\times 10^{-12}$ and $5\times 10^{-13}$ erg/cm$^2$/s in the $0.3- 10$ keV range in the high and low states, respectively. We constrained the mass of the white dwarf ($0.3 - 0.9$ $M_\odot$) and its temperature in the low state (14750 $\pm$ 1250 K), the mass of the donor star ($\leq$ 0.08 $\pm$ 0.01 $M_ \odot$). In the low state, we detected regular optical pulsations with an amplitude of 0.2 mag and a period of 8 min. They are likely associated with the spin of the white dwarf, rather than with its non-radial pulsations. In the high state, the object demonstrates only stochastic optical brightness variations on time scales of $1 - 15$~minutes with amplitudes of $0.2 - 0.6$~mag. We conclude, that SRGe J194401.8+284452 can be classified as an intermediate polar, and its association with the $\gamma$-ray source is very unlikely.

The origin of a compact millimeter (mm, 100-250 GHz) emission in radio-quiet active galactic nuclei (RQ AGN) remains debated. Recent studies propose a connection with self-absorbed synchrotron emission from the accretion disk X-ray corona. We present the first joint ALMA ($\sim$100 GHz) and X-ray (NICER/XMM-Newton/Swift; 2-10 keV) observations of the unobscured RQ AGN, IC 4329A ($z = 0.016$). The time-averaged mm-to-X-ray flux ratio aligns with recently established trends for larger samples (Kawamuro et al. 2022, Ricci et al. 2023), but with a tighter scatter ($\sim$0.1 dex) compared to previous studies. However, there is no significant correlation on timescales of less than 20 days. The compact mm emission exhibits a spectral index of $-0.23 \pm 0.18$, remains unresolved with a 13 pc upper limit, and shows no jet signatures. Notably, the mm flux density varies significantly (factor of 3) within 4 days, exceeding the contemporaneous X-ray variability (37% vs. 18%) and showing the largest mm variations ever detected in RQ AGN over daily timescales. The high amplitude variability rules out scenarios of heated dust and thermal free-free emission, pointing toward a synchrotron origin for the mm radiation in a source of $\sim$1 light day size. We present the results of the optical identification and spectroscopic redshift measurements of 216 galaxy clusters detected in the SRG/eROSITA all-sky X-ray survey. The spectroscopic observations were performed in 2020-2023 with the 6-m BTA telescope at the Special Astrophysical Observatory of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the 2.5-m telescope at the Caucasus Mountain Observatory of the Sternberg Astronomical Institute of the Moscow State University, the 1.6-m AZT-33IK telescope at the Sayan Solar Observatory of the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the 1.5-m Russian-Turkish telescope (RTT-150) at the T\"{U}B\.{I}TAK Observatory. For all of the galaxy clusters presented here the spectroscopic redshift measurements have been obtained for the first time. Of these, 139 galaxy clusters have been detected for the first time in the SRG/eROSITA survey and 22 galaxy clusters are at redshifts $z_{spec} \gtrsim 0.7$, including three at $z_{spec} \gtrsim 1$. Deep direct images with the rizJK filters have also been obtained for four distant galaxy clusters at $z_{spec} > 0.7$. For these observations the most massive clusters are selected. Therefore, most of the galaxy clusters presented here most likely will be included in the cosmological samples of galaxy clusters from the SRG/eROSITA survey.

Optical circular polarization observations can directly test the particle composition in black holes jets. Here we report on the first observations of the BL Lac type object S4 0954+65 in high linear polarized states. While no circular polarization was detected, we were able to place upper limits of <0.5% at the 99.7% confidence. Using a simple model and our novel optical circular polarization observations we can constrain the allowed parameter space for the magnetic field strength and composition of the emitting particles. Our results favor models that require magnetic field strengths of only a few Gauss and models where the jet composition is dominated by electron-positron pairs. The interaction of a supermassive black hole with the matter of an accretion disk in the presence of a magnetic field is the key mechanism of energy release in active galactic nuclei. However, determining the physical parameters of this system, such as the spin and mass of the black hole, the shape and parameters of the rotation of the accretion disk, and the geometry of the magnetic field in the accretion disk is a complex and not completely solved problem. We have previously shown, based on our numerical models, that these estimates can be obtained from just three parameters: the black hole mass, bolometric luminosity, and optical polarization. In this paper, we estimate the accretion disk and black hole parameters for a sample of 14 type 1 Seyfert galaxies. Using the spectropolarimetric data obtained by us, we selected only those objects in which the polarization of optical radiation is generated mainly by the mechanism in the accretion disk. Despite the small statistics, our results for such a sample are consistent with our previous conclusions and show a discrepancy between the disk magnetic field parameters and the classical Shakura-Sunyaev disk model., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures

Archival {\it XMM-Newton}, {\it Chandra} and {\it Hubble Space Telescope (HST)} data have been used to study the X-ray and optical properties of two candidate ultraluminous X-ray sources (ULXs) in NGC\,4536. In order to search for potential optical counterparts, relative astrometry between {\it Chandra} and {\it HST} was improved, and as a result, optical counterparts were detected for both X-ray sources. To complement our findings (based on the archival data), ground-based optical spectra of the counterparts were obtained with the 6m BTA Telescope located at the Special Astrophysical Observatory (SAO). The calculated redshift (z = 0.4391$\pm$0.0010) for one of the sources (X-3) indicates that the source is, in fact, a background active galactic nucleus (AGN). Two possible optical counterparts (s1 and s2) were found for X-2. Whether s1 is point-like or an extended source is unclear: If it is point-like and the emission is dominated by the donor its spectral type indicates O-B star. We present the results of the optical identification, classification, as well as analysis of photometric and spectral observations of the X-ray transient SRGe2149+6736 detected by the eROSITA telescope during SRG all-sky X-ray survey. Photometric observations of the optical companion of SRGe2149+6736 were carried out on 6m telescope BTA SAO RAS, 1.5m Russian-Turkish telescope RTT-150 and 2.5m telescope CMO of Moscow State University. Together with ZTF data they showed that the source is a cataclysmic variable with an orbital period $P=85\pm0.4$~min which demonstrates long-term brightness variability from $23.5$~mag (low state) to $20$~mag (high state). The high-state light curves are consistent with a model of accreting magnetic white dwarf and suggest that SRGe2149+6736 belongs to AM~Her type variables. The optical spectra obtained in the low state are consistent with a spectral energy distribution of a white dwarf with a temperature of ~24000 K.

This paper is devoted to the memory of Dr. Victor Afanasiev and his immense legacy. The report highlights the capabilities of two new instruments tested at the 1-meter Zeiss-1000 telescope of SAO RAS: the Stokes Polarimeter (StoP) and the MAGIC focal reducer. Optimized for the study of active galactic nuclei (AGN), methodically, these instruments are suitable for a wide range of small telescope tasks. The fields of view of StoP and MAGIC are 6' and 13' for direct images, respectively. The StoP device allows one to conduct photometric observations and polarimetric ones with a double Wollaston prism; the spectral mode was added to MAGIC. For a starlike target up to 14 mag in medium-band filters with a seeing of 1" for 20 minutes of total exposure, the photometry accuracy is better than 0.01 mag and the polarization accuracy is better than 0.6%. The available spectral range obtained with the volume phase holographic grating in MAGIC is 4000-7200AA with a dispersion of 2A/px. StoP and MAGIC received the first light in 2020 and are used in test mode at the Zeiss-1000. We discuss the polarization of broad emission lines in the type 1 active galactic nuclei (AGNs). The polarization depends on the geometry of the broad line region (BLR), and also on the polarization mechanism, or distribution of the scattering material. Therefore the polarization measurements can indicate the geometry of the BLR and the mechanism of polarization (equatorial or polar scattering). In addition, the polarization angle (PA) shape across the line profile can be used to measure the supermassive black hole (SMBH) mass, and constrain the BLR characteristics. We give an overview of ours and other recent investigations of the polarization in broad lines from both aspects: theoretical and observational., Comment: accepted in Ast.Nach. SRGE J170245.3+130104 was discovered by the eROSITA telescope aboard the SRG space observatory on March 13-15, 2020 during the first half-year scan of its all-sky X-ray survey. The optical counterpart of the X-ray source was photometrically identified as a distant quasar candidate at $z\approx5.5$. Follow-up spectroscopic observations, done in August/September 2020 with the SCORPIO-II instrument at the BTA 6-m telescope, confirmed that SRGE J170245.3+130104 is a distant quasar at redshift z=5.466. The X-ray luminosity of the quasar during the first half-year scan of the eROSITA all-sky survey was $3.6^{+2.1}_{-1.5}\times 10^{46}$ erg/s (in the 2-10 keV energy range), whereas its X-ray spectrum could be described by a power law with a slope of $\Gamma=1.8^{+0.9}_{-0.8}$. Six months later (September 13-14, 2020), during the second half-year scan of the eROSITA all-sky survey, the quasar was detected again and its X-ray luminosity had decreased by a factor of 2 (at the $\approx 1.9\sigma$ confidence level). The SRGE J170245.3+130104 proves to be the most X-ray luminous among all known X-ray quasars at $z>5$. It is also one of the radio-loudest distant quasars (with radio-loudness $R\sim10^3$), which may imply that it is a blazar. We present the results of long-term photometric monitoring of two active galactic nuclei, 2MASX J08535955+7700543 (z $\sim$ 0.106) and VII Zw 244 (z $\sim$ 0.131), being investigated by the reverberation mapping method in medium-band filters. To estimate the size of the broad line region, we have analyzed the light curves with the JAVELIN code. The emission line widths have been measured using the spectroscopic data obtained at the 6-m BTA telescope of SAO RAS. We give our estimates of the supermassive black hole masses $\lg (M/M_{\odot})$, $7.398_{-0.171}^{+0.153}$, and $7.049_{-0.075}^{+0.068}$, respectively, Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures

We present new spectroscopic and polarimetric observations of the first discovered gravitational lens Q0957+561 obtained with the 6m telescope of the Special Astrophysical Observatory (SAO, Russia). We explore spectropolarimetric parameters of Q0957+561 A,B components to investigate the innermost structure of the quasar, and explore the nature of polarization in lensed quasars. Additionally, we compare their present-day spectral characteristics with previous observations in order to study long-term spectral changes. We analyze spectral characteristics of lensed quasar comparing spectra of A and B images, as well as comparing previously observed image spectra with present-day ones. The polarization parameters of A-B images are compared. We also model the macro-lens influence on the polarization of the images representing the gravitational lens with a singular isothermal elliptical potential. We find that the brightness and SED ratio of components A and B changed during a long period. Polarization in broad lines of components A and B showed that the equatorial scattering cannot be detected in this quasar. We find wavelength-dependent polarization that may be explained as a combination of the polarization from the disc and outflowing material. There is a significant difference between polarization parameters of the A and B images: the B component shows a higher polarization degree and polarization angle. However, both polarization vectors are nearly perpendicular to the observed radio jet projection. It indicates that the polarization in the continuum is coming from the accretion disc. Our simple lensing model of a polarized source showed that macro-lens can cause the observed differences in polarization parameters of Q0957+561 A,B images. Using Mg II broad line and luminosity of component A we estimated that the Q0957+561 black hole mass is M~(4.8-6.1) $10^8$ M$\odot$, Comment: accepted in AA

For the interpretation of X-ray radiation from kiloparsec jets of quasars, the inverse Compton scattering of the cosmic microwave background has been widely used for almost 20 years. A recent analysis of the Fermi-LAT observational data showed that this assumption is inapplicable for jets of several quasars. In this paper, we consider the inverse Compton scattering of photons from a central source as a possible mechanism for the formation of X-ray radiation from kiloparsec jets of the quasars PKS 0637-752, 3C 273, PKS 1510-089, and PKS 1045-188. Estimates for the angle between the line of sight and the velocity of kiloparsec-scale jets are obtained. The predicted gamma-ray flux for all objects turned out to be below the upper limit on the flux from a kiloparsec jet obtained from the Fermi-LAT data. It is shown that our assumption about the mechanism of kiloparsec jets X-ray radiation is consistent with all data of multiwavelength observations available to date., Comment: 22 pages, 15 figures, 8 tables

The bright radio source S5 0716+714, which is usually classified as a BL Lac object, is one of the most intensively studied blazar. S5 0716+714 demonstrates extremely peculiar properties, such as the shortest time-scale of optical and polarimetric variations observed in blazars. In the given talk, we present the results of 8-h polarimetric monitoring of S5 0716+714 with a $\sim70$-sec resolution carried out using the 6-m telescope BTA of the SAO RAS. The observation data analysis reveals the variability both in total and polarized light on the 1.5-hour timescales that specifies the size of the unresolved emitting region. The numerical model of polarization in jet with the helical structure of the magnetic field is suggested, and fitting the model reveals a magnetic field precession with a period of about 15 days., Comment: Proceeding to the XII SCSLSA; published in CAOSP Special Issuie

Here we give an observational method for measurements of the equatorial scattering region radius using variability in the polarized broad lines in Type 1 active galactic nuclei (AGNs). The polarization in broad lines of Type 1 AGNs is mostly caused by equatorial scattering, where specific features allow one to separate its contribution from the total polarized flux. We propose to monitor variability in the polarized line flux and find the time lag between the nonpolarized continuum and polarized broad line variability. The distance to the scattering screen can then be determined from the time delay. The method was, for the first time, applied to the observations of the Type 1 AGN Mrk 6, and we found that the size of the scattering region in this AGN is around 100 light days. That is significantly smaller than the dusty region size estimated by the infrared interferometric observations and also larger than known broad line region (BLR) size. This indicates that the scattering region lies between the BLR and the dusty region and could be used as a probe of the dust sublimation radius., Comment: Accepted to ApJ

The bright radio source S5 0716+714, that is usually classified as BL Lac object, is one of the most intensively studied. S5 0716+714 demonstrates extremely peculiar properties such as the shortest time-scale of optical and polarimetric variations observed in blazars. In given paper, the results of 9-hour polarimetric monitoring of S5 0716+714 with the $\sim$70-second resolution, carried out by the 6-m telescope BTA of SAO RAS, are presented. The observation data analysis reveals the variability both in total and polarized light on the 1-1.5-hour time-scale. Since polarization is generated by plasma motion in the magnetic field, the variations of polarization vector are bounded with the magnetic field configuration and the average time-scales specify the size of the emitting region, unresolved directly. We suggest a processed numerically model of polarization in the jet with the precessing helical magnetic field. Fitting the model discovers that observed short-term variations with the complicated trajectory of polarization vector could be induced by the magnetic field precession with the period $T \approx 15$ days., Comment: 7 pages, 9 figures; submitted to MNRAS
