Abstract Pea, member of the plant family Leguminosae, play a pivotal role in global food security as essential legumes. However, their production faces challenges stemming from the detrimental impacts of abiotic stressors, leading to a concerning decline in output. Salinity stress is one of the major factors that limiting the growth and productivity of pea. However, biochar amendment in soil has a potential role in alleviating the oxidative damage caused by salinity stress. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the potential role of biochar amendment in soil that may mitigate the adverse effect of salinity stress on pea. The treatments of this study were, (a) Pea varieties; (i) V1 = Meteor and V2 = Green Grass, Salinity Stress, (b) Control (0 mM) and (ii) Salinity (80 mM) (c) Biochar applications; (i) Control, (ii) 8 g/kg soil (56 g) and (iii) 16 g/kg soil (112 g). Salinity stress demonstrated a considerable reduction in morphological parameters as Shoot and root length decreased by (29% and 47%), fresh weight and dry weight of shoot and root by (85, 63%) and (49, 68%), as well as area of leaf reduced by (71%) among both varieties. Photosynthetic pigments (chlorophyll a, b, and carotenoid contents decreased under 80 mM salinity up to (41, 63, 55 and 76%) in both varieties as compared to control. Exposure of pea plants to salinity stress increased the oxidative damage by enhancing hydrogen peroxide and malondialdehyde content by (79 and 89%), while amendment of biochar reduced their activities as, (56% and 59%) in both varieties. The activities of catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and peroxidase (POD) were increased by biochar applications under salinity stress as, (49, 59, and 86%) as well as non-enzymatic antioxidants as, anthocyanin and flavonoids improved by (112 and 67%). Organic osmolytes such as total soluble proteins, sugars, and glycine betaine were increased up to (57, 83, and 140%) by biochar amendment. Among uptake of mineral ions, shoot and root Na+ uptake was greater (144 and 73%) in saline-stressed plants as compared to control, while shoot and root Ca2+ and K+ were greater up to (175, 119%) and (77, 146%) in biochar-treated plants. Overall findings revealed that 16 g/kg soil (112 g) biochar was found to be effective in reducing salinity toxicity by causing reduction in reactive oxygen species and root and shoot Na+ ions uptake and improving growth, physiological and anti-oxidative activities in pea plants (Fig. 1). Objective: This research intended to compare histological impacts of various antioxidants in preventing doxorubicin-induced testicular toxicity and subsequent male infertility in rats. Study Design: Cross-sectional study. Place and Duration of Study: This study was conducted at the Animal House and Histopathology Laboratory of Peshawar Medical College, Peshawar, Pakistan from May 2023 to April 2024. Methods: An overall of 120 male rats were included in the research. The rats were divided into six groups: the control group, the doxorubicin only group, and four treatment groups receiving doxorubicin along with different antioxidants. The antioxidants administered were Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Coenzyme Q10, and Selenium. Histological analyses were performed on testicular tissues post-treatment to assess the extent of damage and protective effects of the antioxidants. Results: The doxorubicin only group showed statistically significant histological damage, including marked reductions in spermatogenesis and degeneration of seminiferous tubules. Antioxidant treated groups demonstrated significant protective effects, with the Selenium group exhibiting the highest level of protection, closely resembling the control group, followed by Vitamin E and Coenzyme Q10, which also provided substantial preservation of testicular structure. Conclusion: The study concluded that antioxidants, particularly Selenium, Vitamin E, and Coenzyme Q10, provided significant protection against doxorubicin induced testicular toxicity in rats. These findings suggested possible use of these antioxidants in mitigating male infertility associated with doxorubicin therapy. Whole genome duplication plays a significant role in plant genome evolution by providing raw materials that can be modified by natural or artificial selection. Nucleotide binding site leucine rich repeat receptor (NLRs) like other gene families are clusters of genes created by duplication and their size reflects the number of duplicated genes. NLR genes encode immune receptors that facilitate identification and binding of effector compounds produced by pathogen as a part of effector triggered immunity (ETI). The accurate identification and characterization of NLR genes substantially contributes to the repertoire of resistance and improves production. The ancestors of Fabaceae family have underwent whole genome duplication (WGD) approximately 58.5 million years ago. In this study, we focused on the subsequent effects of WGD on the evolution of NLR genes within the Vicioid clade, which consists of various legume crops such as chickpea, clover, alfalfa, and pea. The Vicioid clade is divided into three major tribes: Cicereae, Fabeae, and Trifolieae. The analysis of 22 species from the Vicioid clade revealed an overall contraction of the NLRome (the complete set of NLR genes) in members of the Cicereae and Fabeae tribes. This contraction aligns with previous observations that WGD events are often followed by diploidization, leading to a reduced number of duplicated genes. Contrary to this contraction trend, tribe Trifolieae have shown large scale expansion of NLRome irrespective to their genome size. Additionally, the primary diversification of relatively conserved NLR gene subclasses, including helper genes (CCR-NLR) and CCG10-NLR, was reported. Comprehensive evolutionary analysis suggests that NLRome expansion have occurred in during recent 1-6 Mya probably due to their higher substitutions per site per year in Trifolieae. We further hypothesized that this higher rate directed accelerated gene duplications after speciation from their common ancestor and later gene conversion and asymmetric recombination played an active role in subgroup diversification.

Smart and productive image retrieval from flexible image datasets is an unavoidable necessity of the current period. Crude picture marks are imperative to mirror the visual ascribes for content-based image retrieval (CBIR). Algorithmically enlightened and recognized visual substance structure image marks to accurately file and recover comparative outcomes. Consequently, highlighted vectors ought to contain adequate image data with color, shape, objects, spatial data viewpoints to recognize image class as a qualifying applicant. This article presents the maximum response of visual features of an image over profound convolutional neural networks in blend with an innovative content-based image retrieval plan to recover phenomenally precise outcomes. For this determination, a serial fusion of GoogLeNet and VGG-19 based generated signatures are formulated with visual features including texture, color and shape. Initially, the maximum response is calculated for texture pattern by using Markov Random Field (MRF) classifier. Thereafter, cascaded samples are passed through a human retinal system like descriptor named Fast Retina Keypoint (FREAK) for corresponding fundamental points through the image. GoogLeNet and VGG-19 are applied to extract deep features of an image; hence color components are obtained using a correlogram. Finally, all the image signatures are combined and passed through the BoW scheme. The proposed method is applied experimentally to challenging datasets, including Caltech-256, ALOT (250), Corel 1000, Cifar-100, and Cifar 10. Remarkable precision,Recall and F-score results obtained.The texture dataset ALOT (250) with the uppermost precision rate 0.99 for a maximum of its categories, whereas Caltech-256 gives 0.66 precision, and Corel 1000 0.99 for VGG-19 and 0.95 for GoogLeNet. Recall, F-score, ARR and ARP rates shows the significant rates in most of the image categories.

The aim of this paper is to investigate the challenges associated with emergency remote teaching in the developing countries of Palestine, Libya, and Afghanistan, as reported by middle-school students, their parents, and teachers. These countries have been struggling with an unstable and violent situation for decades. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 60 participants from the three countries and 60 online classes were observed. Findings revealed that COVID-19 widened the digital gap among students and families, which created challenges in terms of online class attendance. In addition, violation of students’ and parents’ digital privacy emerged as another key challenge to emergency remote teaching. However, teacher presence and timely feedback in synchronous online sessions strengthened students’ engagement within the emergency remote teaching environment. Overall, emergency remote teaching during the COVID-19 crisis deepened inequities across students and infringed upon the digital ethics of students, teachers, and parents.
