PurposeThis study deployed a bibliometric analysis of 604 academic articles on celebrity endorsement collected from the Scopus database from January 1960 to August 2021 (the first published article dated back to 1976). This study integrated three bibliometric analyses: timeline visualization, co-citation cluster analysis, and historical direct citation analysis. This study conducted a qualitative review to further examine the obtained quantitative results.Design/methodology/approachThis study reviewed the existing research on the celebrity endorsement domain. Based on a bibliometric review of existing literature, this study aimed to provide main theoretical roots and research trajectories and propose new research avenues concerning the theory, context, characteristics, and research methodologies adopted within the marketing discipline.FindingsThe findings revealed that the existing relevant research focused on celebrity endorsement in different periods. The main theoretical roots and research trajectories identified were developed under the influence of primary articles from co-citation analysis and historical direct citation.Research limitations/implicationsBased on the quantitative bibliometric analysis and a qualitative literature review, this study has provided a comprehensive overview of the current stage of this domain. The study also has underscored an abundance of celebrity endorsement literature and revealed the research topics that require further investigations to theoretically and empirically advance the understanding of celebrity endorsement.Practical implicationsSome topics were recommended for further research within the theory, context, characteristics, and methodology aspects. Some practical examples and suggestions are also given in the study.Originality/valueThis study proposed a bibliometric overview of celebrity endorsement in the marketing discipline, especially based on timeline visualization, co-citation cluster analysis, and historical direct citation analysis. PurposeThis study aims to provide the theoretical roots, research trajectories and promising research directions of green marketing in marketing and related fields.Design/methodology/approachThis study integrates three bibliometric analyses, i.e. co-citation analysis, historical direct citation analysis and co-occurrence analysis, and a qualitative review to examine the 781 publications that matched the search criteria between January 1991 and December 2021 from the Web of Science (WoS) database.FindingsThe research findings show that eleven groups of cited references characterize the theoretical roots of green marketing in marketing and related fields. Besides, the two main research trajectories identified were found to be developed under the impact of prior studies. Moreover, the four research themes concerning this research domain are presented. The results also highlight promising research directions.Research limitations/implicationsBased on the quantitative bibliometric analysis and qualitative literature reviews, this study has provided a comprehensive overview of the current stage of this domain. The study also has underscored an abundance of green marketing literature and revealed the research topics that require further investigations to theoretically and empirically advance the understanding of green marketing.Practical implicationsSome topics about green marketing were recommended for further research. Transition metal carbides have sparked unprecedented enthusiasm as high-performance catalysts in recent years. Still, the catalytic properties of copper (Cu) carbide remain unexplored. By introducing subsurface carbon (C) to Cu(111), displacement reaction of proton in carboxyl acid group with single Cu atom is demonstrated at the atomic scale and room temperature. Its occurrence is attributed to the C-doping induced local charge of surface Cu atoms (up to +0.30 e/atom), which accelerates the rate of on-surface deprotonation via reduction of the corresponding energy barrier, thus enabling the instant displacement of a proton with a Cu atom when the molecules land on the surface. PurposeThis paper aims to analyze how a real-time COVID-19 pandemic is impacting Macao’s hospitality industry, and illustrates why lessons from COVID-19 are an opportunity for further development for the city.Design/methodology/approachThis case study highlights local government and hospitality industry responses to a real-time crisis. Academic studies, media news and reports have been collected to illustrate why the Macao’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic could be taken as a city case study example. Previous crisis experience provided guidance to Macao’s success in this pandemic.FindingsMacao has succeeded in managing the adverse effects of COVID-19, illustrating the coexistence of challenges and opportunities from experiencing the epidemic. With no COVID-19 cases in the city, cross-border tourism with China resumed in September. Macao is undeniably over reliant on the gambling industry to provide tax income and employment, creating an unbalanced industrial structure. However, the Chinese and Macao Governments, the hospitality industry and other stakeholders, have presented high levels of engagement, unity and rational courses of action during the pandemic. This paper examines Macao’s two orientations – intra and post-coronavirus – which are shown to be instrumental in the city’s future tourism development.Practical implicationsAs the paper is Macao-specific, some generalization may not be applicable. The lessons and strategies proposed in the paper may only be theoretically and temporarily workable in this real-time situation. However, as COVID-19 will remain for some time globally, the efficacy of the findings justifies further ongoing analysis and application beyond Macao.Originality/valueThe case offers a first-hand analysis on the governance of Macao to negate the impacts of COVID-19, enabling a comprehensive review on the practices and policies that were effective during the virus outbreak. There is reference for researchers and practitioners in the public policy domain, and particularly in the area of crisis management and destination resilience. The result is worthy of future exploration on how the mechanism of centralized government facilitates risk management, and the rebuilding of a tourism economy in a crisis context, comparing this to other national systems.

In recent years, Protaetia brevitarsis Lewis has gradually become an important pest of several crops including grape (Vitis vinifera L.) and peach (Amygdalus persica L.) in Xinjiang, China. Toward improving trapping efficacy as part of a management program, various colors, types, and placement of traps and the use of an attractant were evaluated in field and laboratory studies. Laboratory color-choice tests and field tests indicated that P. brevitarsis adults preferred red. In trap placement tests, more adults were captured on traps placed 1 or 1.5 m above the ground and on top of the horizontal grape canopy. Before grape ripening, more adults were captured in traps placed in a 0.5-m border around the outside edge of the vineyard; during grape ripening, more were caught within the vineyard. Newly designed traps that were red, with a triangular baffle and a landing plate, were more efficient than traditional bucket-shaped traps. When P. brevitarsis adults were trapped and killed from June to July 2018, the population of P. brevitarsis adults in August to early September 2018 was significantly lower than in August to early September 2017, when adults had not been trapped and killed in the prior 2 mo.

Background Medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction (MPFLR) is a well-established procedure for addressing recurrent patellar dislocation (RPD) in young patients. However, despite being a promising procedure for RPD with genu valgum, there is a scarcity of reports on simultaneous MPFLR and closing-wedge distal femoral osteotomy (CWDFO). The purpose of the present study was to observe and analyse the clinical and imaging findings of CWDFO combined with MPFLR for RPD with genu valgum. Methods From May 2015 to April 2018, 25 patients with RPD and genu valgum were surgically treated in our department. Anteroposterior long-leg, weight-bearing, lower-extremity radiographs, lateral radiographs and computed tomography (CT) scans of the patellofemoral joint were obtained, and the anatomical femorotibial angle (aFTA), mechanical lateral distal femoral angle (mLDFA), weight-bearing line rate (WBLR), patellar height, patellar lateral shift (PLS) and tibial tubercle–trochlear groove (TT-TG) distance were analysed. Validated knee scores, such as the Kujala, Lysholm, visual analogue scale (VAS) scores and Tegner socres, were evaluated preoperatively and 2 years postoperatively. Results 25 patients, with an average age of 19.8 years (14–27), were evaluated. During the 2-year follow-up period, all patients were able to achieve a better sports level without any problems, with no recurrence of patellar instability. Compared with preoperation, the aFTA, mLDFA, WBLR and PLS showed statistically significant improvement following the procedure (p < 0.001). Meanwhile, no significant differences in the Insall index and TT-TG distance were found. The mean Kujala score, average Lysholm score, VAS score and Tegner socres showed significant postoperative improvement. Conclusions CWDFO combined with MPFLR is a suitable treatment for RPD with genu valgum, and can lead to significant improvement in the clinical and imaging findings of the knee in the short term.

The electrochemical properties of Li3V2(PO4)3 (LVP) cathode of lithium ion batteries are often improved by ion doping. Nevertheless, the mechanism of ion doping has not been fully understood. Here, Ti4+ has been chosen as a typical dopant with similar atomic radius to the 6-coordinated V3+. A series of Li3TixV(2-x)(PO4)3/C samples are successfully synthesized by a sol-gel route. The 7Li MAS NMR spectra of the LTxVP/C demonstrate that the doping of Ti4+ can enhance the mobility of Li ions. The results of electrochemical properties tests show that moderate Ti4+ doping is able to improve the high rate capability of the materials by increasing the electronic conductivity and Li-ion diffusion coefficient. The optimal sample (LT0.08VP/C) exhibits the best cycling behavior and rate capability, which can deliver 110.85 mAh/g and capacity retention of 99.36% at 10 C after 100 cycles. On-surface synthesis (OSS) involving relatively high energy barriers remains challenging due to a typical dilemma: firm molecular anchor is required to prevent molecular desorption upon the reaction, whereas sufficient lateral mobility is crucial for subsequent coupling and assembly. By locking the molecular precursors on the substrate then unlocking them during the reaction, we present a strategy to address this challenge. High-yield synthesis based on well-defined decarboxylation, intermediate transition, and hexamerization is demonstrated, resulting in an extended and ordered network exclusively composed of the newly synthesized macrocyclic compound. Thanks to the steric hindrance of its maleimide group, we attain a preferential selection of the coupling. This work unlocks a promising path to enrich the reaction types and improve the coupling selectivity hence the structual homogeneity of the final product for OSS.

Chemical reactions that convert sp2 to sp3 hybridization have been demonstrated to be a fascinating yet challenging route to functionalize graphene. So far it has not been possible to precisely control the reaction sites nor their lateral order at the atomic/molecular scale. The application prospects have been limited for reactions that require long soaking, heating, electric pulses or probe-tip press. Here we demonstrate a spatially selective photocycloaddition reaction of a two-dimensional molecular network with defect-free basal plane of single-layer graphene. Directly visualized at the submolecular level, the cycloaddition is triggered by ultraviolet irradiation in ultrahigh vacuum, requiring no aid of the graphene Moiré pattern. The reaction involves both [2+2] and [2+4] cycloadditions, with the reaction sites aligned into a two-dimensional extended and well-ordered array, inducing a bandgap for the reacted graphene layer. This work provides a solid base for designing and engineering graphene-based optoelectronic and microelectronic devices. [Figure not available: see fulltext.].

Traditionally, for diagnosing patellar dislocation, clinicians make manual geometric measurements on computerized tomography (CT) images taken in the knee area, which is often complex and error-prone. Therefore, we develop a prototype CAD system for automatic measurement and diagnosis. We firstly segment the patella and the femur regions on the CT images and then measure two geometric quantities, patellar tilt angle (PTA), and patellar lateral shift (PLS) automatically on the segmentation results, which are finally used to assist in diagnoses. The proposed quantities are proved valid and the proposed algorithms are proved effective by experiments.

Purpose: To examine the results of medial open-wedge high tibial osteotomy (MOWHTO) combined with all-inside repair focusing on medial meniscus posterior root tears (MMPRT) by second-look arthroscopy and determine the clinical relevance of the findings. Methods: From June 2015 to June 2017, 27 consecutive patients underwent MOWHTO and meniscal treatment for MMPRT using all-inside repair. All were available for second-look arthroscopy evaluation at the time of plate removal. Cartilage regeneration in the medial condyles and healing status of the MMPRT were assessed at the time of second-look arthroscopy. Clinical outcomes were evaluated by the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) scores and the Lysholm score scale. The potential factors affecting the healing of MMPRT, including age, body mass index (BMI), weight-bearing line rate (WBLR) and femorotibial angle (FTA) were discussed. Results: There were 11 (41%) cases with complete healing (group A) and 16 (59%) cases with lax healing (group B). A complete cartilage coverage of chondral lesions was observed at second-look arthroscopy. Improvements of HSS in both groups were 41.25 ± 6.18 and 38.82 ± 5.43, while improvements in Lysholm score seen in both groups were 30.40 ± 4.84 and 32.65 ± 4.11. There was no significant difference in the postoperative clinical results between the two groups. In group A, the age (months), BMI, WBLR, and FTA are 54.61 ± 2.53, 23.58 ± 2.39, 66.10 ± 2.86% and 169.00 ± 2.62°, respectively, while in group B, they are 55.16 ± 4.92, 29.58 ± 3.91, 57.51 ± 5.49% and 175.21 ± 2.87°, respectively. A significant difference has been identified between two groups except for age. Conclusion: As seen in this retrospective study, a higher healing rate of MMPRT using all-inside repair and regeneration of degenerated articular cartilage in the medial condyles after MOWHTO can be expected. Healing of the MMPRT was not related to a better clinical outcome. Moreover, it can be inferred that BMI, WBLR and FTA may affect the healing status of MMPRT.

To explore the clinical efficacy of arthroscopic simultaneous both anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction and suture of the meniscus bucket-handle tear (BHT).Between January 2013 and April 2014, 22 patients (22 knees) with ACL injury and BHT, who accorded with the inclusion criteria, were studied. There were 14 males and 8 females with a mean age of 30.68 years (range, 15-44 years). The left side was involved in 10 cases and the right side in 12 cases. Injury located at the medial meniscus in 14 patients, and at the lateral meniscus in 8 patients. The median of interval from injury to operation was 40 days (range, 9 hours to 4 years). BHT was sutured, and then single bundle reconstruction of ACL was performed under arthroscopy.All incisions healed by first intention, and there were no serious complications such as infection, vascular injury, and nerve injury. The patients were followed up for 26.7 months on average (range, 12-42 months). At 6 weeks after operation, one patient had limited motion of the knee, the function was recovered after release under anesthesia; and one patient had joint space tenderness, which was relieved after conservative treatment. The total effective rate was 90.9% (20/22). At last follow-up, the anterior drawer test, Lachman test, and McMurray test were negative in all the cases. The visual analogue scale (VAS), Tegner activity level score, and Lysholm score were significantly improved at 12 months after operation when compared with preoperative scores (Arthroscopic simultaneous both ACL reconstruction and suture of BHT can improve the symptoms, reduce the risk of re-tear of sutured meniscus effectively, delay degeneration of articular cartilage, and maintain the stability of the knee joint.探讨关节镜下前交叉韧带（anterior cruciate ligament，ACL）重建联合半月板缝合修补术治疗 ACL 损伤合并半月板桶柄样撕裂（bucket-handle tear，BHT）的临床疗效。.将 2013 年 1 月—2014 年 4 月收治并符合选择标准的 22 例（22 膝）ACL 损伤合并半月板 BHT 患者纳入研究。其中，男 14 例，女 8 例；年龄 15～44 岁，平均 30.68 岁。左膝 10 例，右膝 12 例。内侧半月板损伤 14 例，外侧 8 例。初次受伤至入院时间为 9 h～4 年，中位时间 40 d。于关节镜下首先行半月板缝合修补术，然后行 ACL 单束重建。.术后患者切口均Ⅰ期愈合，均未出现感染、血管神经损伤等严重并发症。22 例患者均获随访，随访时间 12～42 个月，平均 26.7 个月。1 例术后 6 周关节功能活动仍受限，经麻醉下手法松解后功能恢复良好；1 例存在关节间隙压痛，经保守治疗后疼痛缓解。临床有效率为 90.9%（20/22）。末次随访时，患者前抽屉试验、Lachman 试验、McMurray 试验均为阴性。术后 12 个月疼痛视觉模拟评分（VAS）、Tegner 运动水平评分、Lysholm 评分均较术前显著改善，比较差异有统计学意义（关节镜下半月板缝合修补联合 ACL 单束重建治疗 ACL 损伤合并 BHT，能有效缓解临床症状、降低半月板再次撕裂概率，延缓关节软骨退行性变，维持膝关节稳定性。.

The aim of this randomized control study was to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of endoscopy for the treatment of surgical site infection (SSI), compared with conventional therapy. One hundred and six patients who were diagnosed with severe SSI were included in the study, performed from May 2005 to July 2012 at Tianjin Binhai New Area Dagang Hospital, China. Patients were randomly divided into two groups: 57 patients in group A treated by endoscopy and 49 patients in group B treated by conventional therapy for SSI. The primary outcome was the healing period of the wound; the secondary outcomes were the blood loss following surgery, visual analog scale (VAS) measurement, volume of irrigation saline during surgery, rate of skin transplantation, length of hospital stay and other complications. The mean wound healing time was significantly less in group A (10.0±2.5 days) than in group B (19.4±5.2 days). The mean VAS score 7 days after surgery in group A was significantly less compared with group B. The intra-operative blood loss, intra-operative volume of irrigation saline and length of the hospital stay were significantly reduced in group A compared with group B. No significant differences between the groups were revealed in terms of the duration of surgery and the clinical complications. This study demonstrated that the endoscopy procedure for the treatment of SSI reduces the wound healing time compared with that of traditional surgery, without increasing any risk of clinical events. The present study showed that endoscopy was not only effective but also safe in the therapy of serious SSI. However, a further randomized control trial is necessary to testify our conclusions.

An efficient method for the conversion of 2,4,6-tri- O -acetyl- d -glucal to 2,3-unsaturated glycosides by using triflic acid on SiO 2 as catalyst has been established. A series of 2,3-unsaturated glucosides were synthesized in good yield and high anomeric selectivity under transition metal-free conditions.

By using iron(III) triflate as catalyst, an improved method for the synthesis of 2,3-unsaturated-O-glycosides has been established. A series of 2,3-unsaturated-O-glucosides were obtained from 2,4,6-tri-O-acetyl- d -glucal in good yield and high anomeric selectivity.

Abstract —An essential role for protein kinase C ε (PKCε) has been shown in multiple forms of cardioprotection; however, there is a distinct paucity of information concerning the signaling architecture that is responsible for the manifestation of a protective phenotype. We and others have recently shown that signal transduction may proceed via the formation of signaling complexes ( Circ Res . 2001;88:59–62). In order to understand if the assembly of multiprotein complexes is the manner by which signaling is conducted in cardioprotection, we designed a series of experiments to characterize the associations of Src tyrosine kinase with PKCε in a conscious rabbit model of nitric oxide (NO)-induced late preconditioning. Our data demonstrate that PKCε and Src can form functional signaling modules in vitro: PKCε interacts with Src; the association with PKCε activates Src; and adult cardiac cells receiving recombinant adenoviruses encoding PKCε exhibit increased Src activity. Furthermore, our results show that NO-induced late preconditioning involved PKCε-Src module formation and enhanced the enzymatic activity of PKCε-associated Src. Inhibition of PKC blocked cardioprotection, module formation, and PKCε-associated Src activity, providing direct evidence for a functional role of the PKCε-Src module in the orchestration of NO-induced cardioprotection in conscious rabbits.

Smooth muscle cell differentiation and proliferation are increasingly seen to be intimately tied to the etiology of atherosclerosis and hypertension. To determine the role of PKC alpha in the regulation of smooth muscle cell differentiation and proliferation, the rat embryonic smooth muscle cell line A7r5 was transfected with an expression vector containing the full-length PKC alpha cDNA. Neomycin-resistant clones which exhibited increased PKC alpha levels compared to wild-type cells were selected. The A7r5 cells overexpressing PKC alpha had altered morphology and decreased growth rates compared to wild-type cells and cells transfected only with the neomycin resistance gene. Electrophoretic mobility shift assays showed that nuclear extracts from overexpressing clones gave a different pattern of protein-DNA binding to an AP-1 consensus oligonucleotide compared to wild-type cells. In contrast to the growth characteristics of these clones, their levels of cell differentiation marker proteins such as vinculin and desmin were not affected by PKC alpha overexpression. Moreover, the smooth muscle-specific differentiation marker alpha-actin was markedly reduced, while beta-actin levels were found to remain unchanged. Northern blot analysis confirmed that alpha-actin downregulation occurred at the RNA level. Western blot analysis revealed that A7r5 cells have five different PKC isoforms and that these isoform protein levels were not changed by PKC alpha overexpression. These findings suggest that PKC alpha regulates growth and differentiation of A7r5 smooth muscle cells and that these changes might result from altered expression/function of AP-1 transcription factors.

The therapeutic effects of the Sonic hedgehog (Shh) have been difficult to evaluate because of its relatively short serum half-life. To address this issue polyethylene glycol modification (PEGylation) was investigated as an approach to improve systemic exposure. Shh was PEGylated by a targeted approach using cysteines that were engineered into the protein by site-directed mutagenesis as the sites of attachment. Sixteen different versions of the protein containing one, two, three, or four sites of attachment were characterized. Two forms were selected for extensive testing in animals, Shh A192C, which provided a single site for PEGylation, and Shh A192C/N91C, which provided two sites. The PEGylated proteins were evaluated for reaction specificity by SDS-PAGE and peptide mapping, in vitro potency, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties, and efficacy in a sciatic nerve injury model. Targeted PEGylation was highly selective for the engineered cysteines and had no deleterious effect on Shh function in vitro. Systemic clearance values in rats decreased from 117.4 mL/h/kg for unmodified Shh to 29.4 mL/h/kg for mono-PEGylated Shh A192C that was modified with 20 kDa PEG-maleimide and to 2.5 mL/h/kg for di-PEGylated Shh A192C/N91C modified with 2, 20 kDa PEG vinylsulfone adducts. Serum half-life increased from 1 h for unmodified Shh to 7.0 and 12.6 h for the mono- and di-PEGylated products. These changes in clearance and half-life resulted in higher serum levels of Shh in the PEG-Shh-treated animals. In Ptc-LacZ knock-in mice expressing lacZ under regulation of the Shh receptor Patched, about a 10-fold lower dose of PEG-Shh was needed to induce beta-galactosidase than for the unmodified protein. Therapeutic treatment of mice with PEG-Shh enhanced the regeneration of injured sciatic nerves. These studies demonstrate that targeted PEGylation greatly alters the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of Shh, resulting in a form with improved pharmaceutical properties.
