Search

Type II supernovae (SNeII) mark the endpoint in the lives of hydrogen-rich massive stars. Their large explosion energies and luminosities allow us to measure distances, metallicities, and star formation rates into the distant Universe. To fully exploit their use in answering different astrophysical problems, high-quality low-redshift data sets are required. Such samples are vital to understand the physics of SNeII, but also to serve as calibrators for distinct - and often lower-quality - samples. We present uBgVri optical and YJH near-infrared (NIR) photometry for 94 low-redshift SNeII observed by the Carnegie Supernova Project (CSP). A total of 9817 optical and 1872 NIR photometric data points are released, leading to a sample of high-quality SNII light curves during the first ~150 days post explosion on a well-calibrated photometric system. The sample is presented and its properties are analysed and discussed through comparison to literature events. We also focus on individual SNeII as examples of classically defined subtypes and outlier objects. Making a cut in the plateau decline rate of our sample (s2), a new subsample of fast-declining SNeII is presented. The sample has a median redshift of 0.015, with the nearest event at 0.001 and the most distant at 0.07. At optical wavelengths (V), the sample has a median cadence of 4.7 days over the course of a median coverage of 80 days. In the NIR (J), the median cadence is 7.2 days over the course of 59 days. The fast-declining subsample is more luminous than the full sample and shows shorter plateau phases. Of the non-standard SNeII highlighted, SN2009A particularly stands out with a steeply declining then rising light curve, together with what appears to be two superimposed P-Cygni profiles of H-alpha in its spectra. We present the second results from Citizen ASAS-SN, a citizen science project for the All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN) hosted on the Zooniverse platform. Citizen ASAS-SN tasks users with classifying variable stars based on their light curves. We started with 94975 new variable candidates and identified 4432 new variable stars. The users classified the new variables as 841 pulsating variables, 2995 rotational variables, 350 eclipsing binaries, and 246 unknown variables. We found 68% user agreement for user-classified pulsating variables, 51% for rotational variables, and 77% for eclipsing binaries. We investigate user statistics and compare new variables to known variables. We present a sample of variables flagged as interesting or unusual., Comment: 10 pages, 10 figures

We report on spectroscopic and photometric observations of the AM CVn system ASASSN-21br, which was discovered in outburst by the All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae in February 2021. The outburst lasted for around three weeks, and exhibited a pronounced brightness dip for $\approx$ 4 days, during which the spectra showed a sudden transition from emission- to absorption-line dominated. Only $\approx$ 60 AM CVn systems with derived orbital periods are found in the Galaxy, therefore increasing the sample of AM CVn systems with known orbital periods is of tremendous importance to (1) constrain the physical mechanisms of their outbursts and (2) establish a better understanding of the low-frequency background noise of future gravitational wave surveys. Time-resolved photometry taken during the outburst of ASASSN-21br showed modulation with a period of around 36.65 minutes, which is likely the superhump or orbital period of the system. Time-resolved spectroscopy taken with the Southern African Large Telescope did not show any sign of periodicity in the He I absorption lines. This is possibly due to the origin of these lines in the outbursting accretion disc, which makes it challenging to retrieve periodicity from the spectral lines. Understanding the nature of the luminous 1991T-like supernovae is of great importance to supernova cosmology as they are likely to have been more common in the early universe. In this paper we explore the observational properties of 1991T-like supernovae to study their relationship to other luminous, slow-declining Type~Ia supernovae (SNe Ia). From the spectroscopic and photometric criteria defined in Phillips et al. (1992), we identify 17 1991T-like supernovae from the literature. Combining these objects with ten 1991T-like supernovae from the Carnegie Supernova Project-II, the spectra, light curves, and colors of these events, along with their host galaxy properties, are examined in detail. We conclude that 1991T-like supernovae are closely related in essentially all of their UV, optical, and near-infrared properties -- as well as their host galaxy parameters -- to the slow-declining subset of Branch core-normal supernovae and to the intermediate 1999aa-like events, forming a continuum of luminous SNe Ia. The overriding difference between these three subgroups appears to be the extent to which $^{56}$Ni mixes into the ejecta, producing the pre-maximum spectra dominated by Fe III absorption, the broader UV light curves, and the higher luminosities that characterize the 1991T-like events. Nevertheless, the association of 1991T-like SNe with the rare Type Ia CSM supernovae would seem to run counter to this hypothesis, in which case 1991T-like events may form a separate subclass of SNe Ia, possibly arising from single-degenerate progenitor systems., Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJS

We present the second and final release of optical spectroscopy of Type Ia Supernovae (SNe Ia) obtained during the first and second phases of the Carnegie Supernova Project (CSP-I and CSP-II). The newly released data consist of 148 spectra of 30 SNe Ia observed in the course of the CSP-I, and 234 spectra of 127 SNe Ia obtained during the CSP-II. We also present 216 optical spectra of 46 historical SNe Ia, including 53 spectra of 30 SNe Ia observed by the Cal\'an/Tololo Supernova Survey. We combine these observations with previously published CSP data and publicly-available spectra to compile a large sample of measurements of spectroscopic parameters at maximum light, consisting of pseudo-equivalent widths and expansion velocities of selected features, for 232 CSP and historical SNe Ia (including more than 1000 spectra). Finally, we review some of the strongest correlations between spectroscopic and photometric properties of SNe Ia. Specifically, we define two samples: one consisting of SNe Ia discovered by targeted searches (most of them CSP-I objects) and the other composed of SNe Ia discovered by untargeted searches, which includes most of the CSP-II objects. The analysed correlations are similar for both samples. We find a larger incidence of SNe Ia belonging to the Cool (CL)and Broad Line (BL) Branch subtypes among the events discovered by targeted searches, Shallow Silicon (SS) SNe Ia are present with similar frequencies in both samples, while Core Normal (CN) SNe Ia are more frequent in untargeted searches., Comment: 59 pages, 16 figures, accepted for publication in The Astrophysical Journal. We present a JWST MIRI/MRS spectrum (5-27 $\mathrm{\mu}$m) of the Type Ia supernova (SN Ia), SN 2021aefx at $+415$ days past $B$-band maximum. The spectrum, which was obtained during the iron-dominated nebular phase, has been analyzed in combination with previous JWST observations of SN 2021aefx, to provide the first JWST time series analysis of an SN Ia. We find the temporal evolution of the [Co III] 11.888 $\mathrm{\mu}$m feature directly traces the decay of $^{56}$Co. The spectra, line profiles, and their evolution are analyzed with off-center delayed-detonation models. Best fits were obtained with White Dwarf (WD) central densities of $\rho_c=0.9-1.1\times 10^9$g cm$^{-3}$, a WD mass of M$_{\mathrm{WD}}$=1.33-1.35M$_\odot$, a WD magnetic field of $\approx10^6$G, and an off-center deflagration-to-detonation transition at $\approx$ 0.5 $M_\odot$ seen opposite to the line of sight of the observer (-30). The inner electron capture core is dominated by energy deposition from $\gamma$-rays whereas a broader region is dominated by positron deposition, placing SN 2021aefx at +415 d in the transitional phase of the evolution to the positron-dominated regime. The formerly `flat-tilted' profile at 9 $\mathrm{\mu}$m now has significant contribution from [Ni IV], [Fe II], and [Fe III] and less from [Ar III], which alters the shape of the feature as positrons excite mostly the low-velocity Ar. Overall, the strength of the stable Ni features in the spectrum is dominated by positron transport rather than the Ni mass. Based on multi-dimensional models, our analysis is consistent with a single-spot, close-to-central ignition with an indication for a pre-existing turbulent velocity field, and excludes a multiple-spot, off-center ignition., Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJ

We report the All-Sky Automated Survey for SuperNovae discovery of the tidal disruption event (TDE) ASASSN-23bd (AT 2023clx) in NGC 3799, a LINER galaxy with no evidence of strong AGN activity over the past decade. With a redshift of $z = 0.01107$ and a peak UV/optical luminosity of $(5.4\pm0.4)\times10^{42}$ erg s$^{-1}$, ASASSN-23bd is the lowest-redshift and least-luminous TDE discovered to date. Spectroscopically, ASASSN-23bd shows H$\alpha$ and He I emission throughout its spectral time series, and the UV spectrum shows nitrogen lines without the strong carbon and magnesium lines typically seen for AGN. Fits to the rising ASAS-SN light curve show that ASASSN-23bd started to brighten on MJD 59988$^{+1}_{-1}$, $\sim$9 days before discovery, with a nearly linear rise in flux, peaking in the $g$ band on MJD $60000^{+3}_{-3}$. Scaling relations and TDE light curve modelling find a black hole mass of $\sim$10$^6$ $M_\odot$, which is on the lower end of supermassive black hole masses. ASASSN-23bd is a dim X-ray source, with an upper limit of $L_{0.3-10\,\mathrm{keV}} < 1.0\times10^{40}$ erg s$^{-1}$ from stacking all \emph{Swift} observations prior to MJD 60061, but with soft ($\sim 0.1$ keV) thermal emission with a luminosity of $L_{0.3-2 \,\mathrm{keV}}\sim4\times10^{39}$ erg s$^{-1}$ in \emph{XMM-Newton} observations on MJD 60095. The rapid $(t < 15$ days) light curve rise, low UV/optical luminosity, and a luminosity decline over 40 days of $\Delta L_{40}\approx-0.7$ make ASASSN-23bd one of the dimmest TDEs to date and a member of the growing ``Low Luminosity and Fast'' class of TDEs., Comment: 17 pages, 13 figures, submitted to MNRAS

We present a JWST mid-infrared spectrum of the under-luminous Type Ia Supernova (SN Ia) 2022xkq, obtained with the medium-resolution spectrometer on the Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI) $\sim130$ days post-explosion. We identify the first MIR lines beyond 14 $\mu$m in SN Ia observations. We find features unique to under-luminous SNe Ia, including: isolated emission of stable Ni, strong blends of [Ti II], and large ratios of singly ionized to doubly ionized species in both [Ar] and [Co]. Comparisons to normal-luminosity SNe Ia spectra at similar phases show a tentative trend between the width of the [Co III] 11.888 $\mu$m feature and the SN light curve shape. Using non-LTE-multi-dimensional radiation hydro simulations and the observed electron capture elements we constrain the mass of the exploding white dwarf. The best-fitting model shows that SN 2022xkq is consistent with an off-center delayed-detonation explosion of a near-Chandrasekhar mass WD (M$_{\rm ej}$ $\approx 1.37$ M$_{\odot}$) of high-central density ($\rho_c \geq 2.0\times10^{9}$ g cm$^{-3}$) seen equator on, which produced M($^{56}$Ni) $= 0.324$ M$_{\odot}$ and M($^{58}$Ni) $\geq 0.06$ M$_{\odot}$. The observed line widths are consistent with the overall abundance distribution; and the narrow stable Ni lines indicate little to no mixing in the central regions, favoring central ignition of sub-sonic carbon burning followed by an off-center DDT beginning at a single point. Additional observations may further constrain the physics revealing the presence of additional species including Cr and Mn. We collect a sample of 42 SNe Ia with Swift UV photometry and well-measured early-time light curve rises and find that 2002es-like and 2003fg-like SNe Ia have different pre-peak UV color evolutions compared to normal SNe Ia and other spectroscopic subtypes. Specifically, 2002es-like and 2003fg-like SNe Ia are cleanly separated from other SNe Ia subtypes by UVM2-UVW1>=1.0~mag at 10 days prior to B-band maximum. Furthermore, the SNe Ia that exhibit non-monotonic bumps in their rising light curves, to date, consist solely of 2002es-like and 2003fg-like SNe Ia. We also find that SNe Ia with two-component power-law rises are more luminous than SNe Ia with single-component power-law rises at pre-peak epochs. Given the similar UV colors, along with other observational similarities, we discuss a possible progenitor scenario that places 2002es-like and 2003fg-like SNe Ia along a continuum and may explain the unique UV colors, early-time bumps, and other observational similarities between these objects. Ultimately, further observations of both subtypes, especially in the near-infrared, are critical for constraining models of these peculiar thermonuclear explosions., Comment: 26 pages, 5 figures. We present optical and near-infrared observations of SN~2022crv, a stripped envelope supernova in NGC~3054, discovered within 12 hrs of explosion by the Distance Less Than 40 Mpc Survey. We suggest SN~2022crv is a transitional object on the continuum between SNe Ib and SNe IIb. A high-velocity hydrogen feature ($\sim$$-$20,000 -- $-$16,000 $\rm km\,s^{-1}$) was conspicuous in SN~2022crv at early phases, and then quickly disappeared around maximum light. By comparing with hydrodynamic modeling, we find that a hydrogen envelope of $\sim 10^{-3}$ \msun{} can reproduce the behaviour of the hydrogen feature observed in SN~2022crv. The early light curve of SN~2022crv did not show envelope cooling emission, implying that SN~2022crv had a compact progenitor with extremely low amount of hydrogen. The analysis of the nebular spectra shows that SN~2022crv is consistent with the explosion of a He star with a final mass of $\sim$4.5 -- 5.6 \msun{} that has evolved from a $\sim$16 -- 22 \msun{} zero-age main sequence star in a binary system with about 1.0 -- 1.7 \msun{} of oxygen finally synthesized in the core. The high metallicity at the supernova site indicates that the progenitor experienced a strong stellar wind mass loss. In order to retain a small amount of residual hydrogen at such a high metallicity, the initial orbital separation of the binary system is likely larger than $\sim$1000~$\rm R_{\odot}$. The near-infrared spectra of SN~2022crv show a unique absorption feature on the blue side of He I line at $\sim$1.005~$\mu$m. This is the first time that such a feature has been observed in a Type Ib/IIb, and could be due to \ion{Sr}{2}. Further detailed modelling on SN~2022crv can shed light on the progenitor and the origin of the mysterious absorption feature in the near infrared., Comment: accepted for publication in ApJ

We present extensive ultraviolet (UV) and optical photometric and optical spectroscopic follow-up of supernova (SN)~2021gno by the "Precision Observations of Infant Supernova Explosions" (POISE) project, starting less than two days after the explosion. Given its intermediate luminosity, fast photometric evolution, and quick transition to the nebular phase with spectra dominated by [Ca~II] lines, SN~2021gno belongs to the small family of Calcium-rich transients. Moreover, it shows double-peaked light curves, a phenomenon shared with only four other Calcium-rich events. The projected distance from the center of the host galaxy is not as large as other objects in this family. The initial optical light-curve peaks coincide with a very quick decline of the UV flux, indicating a fast initial cooling phase. Through hydrodynamical modelling of the bolometric light curve and line velocity evolution, we found that the observations are compatible with the explosion of a highly-stripped massive star with an ejecta mass of $0.8\,M_\odot$ and a $^{56}$Ni mass of $0.024~M_{\odot}$. The initial cooling phase (first light curve peak) is explained by the presence of an extended circumstellar material comprising $\sim$$10^{-2}\,M_{\odot}$ with an extension of $1100\,R_{\odot}$. We discuss if hydrogen features are present in both maximum-light and nebular spectra, and its implications in terms of the proposed progenitor scenarios for Calcium-rich transients., Comment: 21 pages, 13 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS

The optical spectra of novae are characterized by emission lines from the hydrogen Balmer series and either Fe II or He/N, leading to their traditional classification into two spectral classes: "Fe II" and "He/N". For decades, the origins of these spectral features were discussed in the literature in the contexts of different bodies of gas or changes in the opacity of the ejecta, particularly associated with studies by R. E. Williams and S. N. Shore. Here, we revisit these major studies with dedicated, modern data sets, covering the evolution of several novae from early rise to peak all the way to the nebular phase. Our data confirm previous suggestions in the literature that the "Fe II" and "He/N" spectral classes are phases in the spectroscopic evolution of novae driven primarily by changes in the opacity, ionization, and density of the ejecta, and most if not all novae go through at least three spectroscopic phases as their eruptions evolve: an early He/N (phase 1; observed during the early rise to visible peak and characterized by P Cygni lines of He I, N II, and N III), then an Fe II (phase 2; observed near visible peak and characterized by P Cygni lines of Fe II and O I), and then a later He/N (phase 3; observed during the decline and characterized by emission lines of He I. He II, N II, and N III), before entering the nebular phase. This spectral evolution seems to be ubiquitous across novae, regardless of their speed class; however the duration of each of these phase differs based on the speed class of the nova., Comment: 21 pages, 14 figures, 11 tables, Accepted in MNRAS

We present deep Hubble Space Telescope imaging of the nearby Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) 2011fe obtained 11.5yr after explosion. No emission is detected at the SN location to a $1\sigma$ ($3\sigma$) limit of ${F555W > 30.2 \;(29.0)}~$mag, or equivalently $M_V > 1.2 \;(-0.1)~$mag, neglecting the distance uncertainty to M101. We constrain the presence of donor stars impacted by the SN ejecta with the strictest limits thus far on compact (i.e., $\log \,g \gtrsim 4$) companions. H-rich zero-age main-sequence companions with masses $\geq 2~\rm M_\odot$ are excluded, a significant improvement upon the pre-explosion imaging limit of $\approx 5~\rm M_\odot$. Main-sequence He stars with masses $\geq 1~\rm M_\odot$ and subgiant He stars with masses $\lesssim 0.8~\rm M_\odot$ are also disfavored by our late-time imaging. Synthesizing our limits on post-impact donors with previous constraints from pre-explosion imaging, early-time radio and X-ray observations, and nebular-phase spectroscopy, essentially all formation channels for SN2011fe invoking a non-degenerate donor star at the time of explosion are unlikely., Comment: 5 pages excluding references, 4 figures, 1 table. We present 307 Type Ia supernova (SN) light curves from the first four years of the TESS mission. We use this sample to characterize the shapes of the early time light curves, measure the rise times from first light to peak, and search for companion star interactions. Using simulations, we show that light curves must have noise $<$10% of the peak to avoid biases in the early time light curve shape, restricting our quantitative analysis to 74 light curves. We find that the mean power law index $t^{\beta_1}$ of the early time light curves is 1.93$\pm$ 0.57 and the mean rise time to peak is 15.7 $\pm$ 3.5 days. We also estimate the underlying population distribution and find a Gaussian component with mean $\beta_1 = 2.29$, width 0.34, and a tail extending to values less than 1.0. We use model comparison techniques to test for the presence of companion interactions. In contrast to recent results in the literature, we find that the data can rarely distinguish between models with and without companion interactions, and caution is needed when claiming detections of early time flux excesses. Nevertheless, we find three high-quality SN light curves that tentatively prefer the addition of a companion interaction model, but the statistical evidence is not robust. We also find two SNe that disfavor the addition of a companion interaction model to a curved power law model. Taking the 74 SNe together, we calculate 3$\sigma$ upper limits on the presence of companion signatures to control for orientation effects that can hide companions in individual light curves. Our results rule out common progenitor systems with companions having Roche lobe radii $>$ 31 R$_{\odot}$ (99.9% confidence level) and disfavor companions having Roche lobe radii $>$ 10 R$_{\odot}$ (95% confidence level). We present the discovery and extensive follow-up of a remarkable fast-evolving optical transient, AT2022aedm, detected by the Asteroid Terrestrial impact Last Alert Survey (ATLAS). AT2022aedm exhibited a rise time of $9\pm1$ days in the ATLAS $o$-band, reaching a luminous peak with $M_g\approx-22$ mag. It faded by 2 magnitudes in $g$-band during the next 15 days. These timescales are consistent with other rapidly evolving transients, though the luminosity is extreme. Most surprisingly, the host galaxy is a massive elliptical with negligible current star formation. X-ray and radio observations rule out a relativistic AT2018cow-like explosion. A spectrum in the first few days after explosion showed short-lived He II emission resembling young core-collapse supernovae, but obvious broad supernova features never developed; later spectra showed only a fast-cooling continuum and narrow, blue-shifted absorption lines, possibly arising in a wind with $v\approx2700$ km s$^{-1}$. We identify two further transients in the literature (Dougie in particular, as well as AT2020bot) that share similarities in their luminosities, timescales, colour evolution and largely featureless spectra, and propose that these may constitute a new class of transients: luminous fast-coolers (LFCs). All three events occurred in passive galaxies at offsets of $\sim4-10$ kpc from the nucleus, posing a challenge for progenitor models involving massive stars or massive black holes. The light curves and spectra appear to be consistent with shock breakout emission, though usually this mechanism is associated with core-collapse supernovae. The encounter of a star with a stellar mass black hole may provide a promising alternative explanation., Comment: Accepted in ApJL

We present the volumetric rates and luminosity functions (LFs) of Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) from the $V$-band All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN) catalogues spanning discovery dates from UTC 2014-01-26 to UTC 2017-12-29. Our standard sample consists of 404 SNe Ia with $m_{V,\mathrm{peak}}<17$ mag and Galactic latitude $|b|>15^{\circ}$. Our results are both statistically more precise and systematically more robust than previous studies due to the large sample size and high spectroscopic completeness. We make completeness corrections based on both the apparent and absolute magnitudes by simulating the detection of SNe Ia in ASAS-SN light curves. We find a total volumetric rate for all subtypes of $R_{\mathrm{tot}}=2.28^{+0.20}_{-0.20}\,\times 10^{4}\,\mathrm{yr}^{-1}\,\mathrm{Gpc}^{-3}\,h^{3}_{70}$ for $M_{V,\mathrm{peak}}<-16.5$ mag ($R_{\mathrm{tot}}=1.91^{+0.12}_{-0.12}\,\times 10^{4}\,\mathrm{yr}^{-1}\,\mathrm{Gpc}^{-3}\,h^{3}_{70}$ for $M_{V,\mathrm{peak}}<-17.5$ mag) at the median redshift of our sample, $z_{\mathrm{med}}=0.024$. This is in agreement ($1\sigma$) with the local volumetric rates found by previous studies. We also compile luminosity functions (LFs) for the entire sample as well as for subtypes of SNe Ia for the first time. The major subtypes with more than one SN include Ia-91bg, Ia-91T, Ia-CSM, and Ia-03fg with total rates of $R_{\mathrm{Ia-91bg}}=1.4^{+0.5}_{-0.5} \times 10^{3}\,\mathrm{yr}^{-1}\,\mathrm{Gpc}^{-3}\,h^{3}_{70}$, $R_{\mathrm{Ia-91T}}=8.5^{+1.6}_{-1.7} \times 10^{2}\,\mathrm{yr}^{-1}\,\mathrm{Gpc}^{-3}\,h^{3}_{70}$, $R_{\mathrm{Ia-CSM}}=10^{+7}_{-7}\,\mathrm{yr}^{-1}\,\mathrm{Gpc}^{-3}\,h^{3}_{70}$, and $R_{\mathrm{Ia-03fg}}=30^{+20}_{-20}\,\mathrm{yr}^{-1}\,\mathrm{Gpc}^{-3}\,h^{3}_{70}$, respectively. We present early spectral observations of the very slow Galactic nova Gaia22alz, over its gradual rise to peak brightness that lasted 180 days. During the first 50 days, when the nova was only 3--4 magnitudes above its normal brightness, the spectra showed narrow (FWHM $\approx$ 400 km s$^{-1}$) emission lines of H Balmer, He I, He II, and C IV, but no P Cygni absorption. A few weeks later, the high-excitation He II and C IV lines disappeared, and P Cygni profiles of Balmer, He I, and eventually Fe II lines emerged, yielding a spectrum typical of classical novae before peak. We propose that the early spectra of Gaia22alz are produced in the white dwarf's envelope or accretion disk, reprocessing X-ray and ultraviolet emission from the white dwarf after a dramatic increase in the rate of thermonuclear reactions, during a phase known as the ``early X-ray/UV flash''. If true, this would be one of the rare times that the optical signature of the early X-ray/UV flash has been detected. While this phase might last only a few hours in other novae and thus be easily missed, it was possible to detect in Gaia22alz due to its very slow and gradual rise and thanks to the efficiency of new all-sky surveys in detecting transients on their rise. The All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN) began observing in late-2011 and has been imaging the entire sky with nightly cadence since late 2017. A core goal of ASAS-SN is to release as much useful data as possible to the community. Working towards this goal, in 2017 the first ASAS-SN Sky Patrol was established as a tool for the community to obtain light curves from our data with no preselection of targets. Then, in 2020 we released static V-band photometry from 2013--2018 for 61 million sources. Here we describe the next generation ASAS-SN Sky Patrol, Version 2.0, which represents a major progression of this effort. Sky Patrol 2.0 provides continuously updated light curves for 111 million targets derived from numerous external catalogs of stars, galaxies, and solar system objects. We are generally able to serve photometry data within an hour of observation. Moreover, with a novel database architecture, the catalogs and light curves can be queried at unparalleled speed, returning thousands of light curves within seconds. Light curves can be accessed through a web interface (http://asas-sn.ifa.hawaii.edu/skypatrol/) or a Python client (https://asas-sn.ifa.hawaii.edu/documentation). The Python client can be used to retrieve up to 1 million light curves, generally limited only by bandwidth. This paper gives an updated overview of our survey, introduces the new Sky Patrol, and describes its system architecture. We present a JWST/MIRI low-resolution mid-infrared (MIR) spectroscopic observation of the normal Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) SN 2021aefx at +323 days past rest-frame B-band maximum light. The spectrum ranges from 4-14 um, and shows many unique qualities including a flat-topped [Ar III] 8.991 um profile, a strongly tilted [Co III] 11.888 um feature, and multiple stable Ni lines. These features provide critical information about the physics of the explosion. The observations are compared to synthetic spectra from detailed NLTE multi-dimensional models. The results of the best-fitting model are used to identify the components of the spectral blends and provide a quantitative comparison to the explosion physics. Emission line profiles and the presence of electron capture (EC) elements are used to constrain the mass of the exploding white dwarf (WD) and the chemical asymmetries in the ejecta. We show that the observations of SN 2021aefx are consistent with an off-center delayed-detonation explosion of a near-Chandrasekhar mass (Mch) WD at a viewing angle of -30 degrees relative to the point of the deflagration-to-detonation transition. From the strength of the stable Ni lines we determine that there is little to no mixing in the central regions of the ejecta. Based on both the presence of stable Ni and the Ar velocity distributions, we obtain a strict lower limit of 1.2 Msun of the initial WD, implying that most sub-Mch explosions models are not viable models for SN 2021aefx. We present ultraviolet (UV) to near-infrared (NIR) observations and analysis of the nearby Type Ia supernova SN 2021fxy. Our observations include UV photometry from Swift/UVOT, UV spectroscopy from HST/STIS, and high-cadence optical photometry with the Swope 1-m telescope capturing intra-night rises during the early light curve. Early $B-V$ colours show SN 2021fxy is the first "shallow-silicon" (SS) SN Ia to follow a red-to-blue evolution, compared to other SS objects which show blue colours from the earliest observations. Comparisons to other spectroscopically normal SNe Ia with HST UV spectra reveal SN 2021fxy is one of several SNe Ia with flux suppression in the mid-UV. These SNe also show blue-shifted mid-UV spectral features and strong high-velocity Ca II features. One possible origin of this mid-UV suppression is the increased effective opacity in the UV due to increased line blanketing from high velocity material, but differences in the explosion mechanism cannot be ruled out. Among SNe Ia with mid-UV suppression, SNe 2021fxy and 2017erp show substantial similarities in their optical properties despite belonging to different Branch subgroups, and UV flux differences of the same order as those found between SNe 2011fe and 2011by. Differential comparisons to multiple sets of synthetic SN Ia UV spectra reveal this UV flux difference likely originates from a luminosity difference between SNe 2021fxy and 2017erp, and not differing progenitor metallicities as suggested for SNe 2011by and 2011fe. Masses and radii of stars can be derived by combining eclipsing binary light curves with spectroscopic orbits. In our previous work, we modeled the All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN) light curves of more than 30,000 detached eclipsing binaries using PHOEBE. Here we combine our results with 128 double-lined spectroscopic orbits from Gaia Data Release 3. We visually inspect ASAS-SN light curves of double-lined spectroscopic binaries on the lower main sequence and the giant branch, adding 11 binaries to our sample. We find that only 50% of systems have Gaia periods and eccentricities consistent with the ASAS-SN values. We use emcee and PHOEBE to determine masses and radii for a total of 122 stars with median fractional uncertainties of 7.9% and 6.3%, respectively., Comment: 11 pages, 9 figures. Submitted to MNRAS. In previous work we identified a population of 38 cool and luminous variable stars in the Magellanic Clouds and examined 11 in detail in order to classify them as either Thorne-\.Zytkow Objects (T\.ZOs, red supergiants with a neutron star cores) or super-AGB stars (the most massive stars that will not undergo core collapse). This population includes HV\,2112, a peculiar star previously considered in other works to be either a T\.ZO or high-mass AGB star. Here we continue this investigation, using the kinematic and radio environments and local star formation history of these stars to place constraints on the age of the progenitor systems and the presence of past supernovae. These stars are not associated with regions of recent star formation, and we find no evidence of past supernovae at their locations. Finally, we also assess the presence of heavy elements and lithium in their spectra compared to red supergiants. We find strong absorption in Li and s-process elements compared to RSGs in most of the sample, consistent with super-AGB nucleosynthesis, while HV\,2112 shows additional strong lines associated with T\.ZO nucleosynthesis. Coupled with our previous mass estimates, the results are consistent with the stars being massive (~4-6.5M$_{\odot}$) or super-AGB (~6.5-12M$_{\odot}$) stars in the thermally pulsing phase, providing crucial observations of the transition between low- and high-mass stellar populations. NGC 5273 is a known optical and X-ray variable AGN. We analyze new and archival IR, optical, UV, and X-ray data in order to characterize its long-term variability from 2000 to 2022. At least one optical changing-look event occurred between 2011 and 2014, when the AGN changed from a Type 1.8/1.9 Seyfert to a Type 1. It then faded considerably at all wavelengths, followed by a dramatic but slow increase in UV/optical brightness between 2021 and 2022. Near-IR (NIR) spectra in 2022 show prominent broad Paschen lines that are absent in an archival spectrum from 2010, making NGC 5273 one of the few AGNs to be observed changing-look in the NIR. We propose that NGC 5273 underwent multiple changing-look events between 2000 and 2022 -- starting as a Type 1.8/1.9, NGC 5273 changes-look to a Type 1 temporarily in 2002 and again in 2014, reverting back to a Type 1.8/1.9 by 2005 and 2017, respectively. In 2022, it is again a Type 1 Seyfert. We characterize the changing-look events and their connection to the dynamic accretion and radiative processes in NGC 5273, and propose that the variable luminosity (and thus, Eddington ratio) of the source is changing how the broad line region (BLR) reprocesses the continuum emission., Comment: 19 pages, 13 figures, 5 tables, accepted to MNRAS

Using blazar light curves from the optical All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN) and the $\gamma$-ray \textit{Fermi}-LAT telescope, we performed the most extensive statistical correlation study between both bands, using a sample of 1,180 blazars. This is almost an order of magnitude larger than other recent studies. Blazars represent more than 98\% of the AGNs detected by \textit{Fermi}-LAT and are the brightest $\gamma$-ray sources in the extragalactic sky. They are essential for studying the physical properties of astrophysical jets from central black holes. However, their $\gamma$-ray flare mechanism is not fully understood. Multi-wavelength correlations help constrain the dominant mechanisms of blazar variability. We search for temporal relationships between optical and $\gamma$-ray bands. Using a Bayesian Block Decomposition, we detect 1414 optical and 510 $\gamma$-ray flares, we find a strong correlation between both bands. Among all the flares, we find 321 correlated flares from 133 blazars, and derive an average rest-frame time delay of only 1.1$_{-8.5}^{+7.1}$ days, with no difference between the flat-spectrum radio quasars, BL Lacertae-like objects or low, intermediate, and high-synchrotron peaked blazar classes. Our time-delay limit rules out the hadronic proton-synchrotron model as the driver for non-orphan flares and suggests a leptonic single-zone model. Limiting our search to well-defined light curves and removing 976 potential but unclear ``orphan'' flares, we find 191 (13\%) and 115 (22\%) clear ``orphan'' optical and $\gamma$-ray flares. We present the Spectroscopic Classification of Astronomical Transients (SCAT) survey, which is dedicated to spectrophotometric observations of transient objects such as supernovae and tidal disruption events. SCAT uses the SuperNova Integral-Field Spectrograph (SNIFS) on the University of Hawai'i 2.2-meter (UH2.2m) telescope. SNIFS was designed specifically for accurate transient spectrophotometry, including absolute flux calibration and host-galaxy removal. We describe the data reduction and calibration pipeline including spectral extraction, telluric correction, atmospheric characterization, nightly photometricity, and spectrophotometric precision. We achieve $\lesssim 5\%$ spectrophotometry across the full optical wavelength range ($3500-9000~\r{A}$) under photometric conditions. The inclusion of photometry from the SNIFS multi-filter mosaic imager allows for decent spectrophotometric calibration ($10-20\%$) even under unfavorable weather/atmospheric conditions. SCAT obtained $\approx 640$ spectra of transients over the first 3 years of operations, including supernovae of all types, active galactic nuclei, cataclysmic variables, and rare transients such as superluminous supernovae and tidal disruption events. We catalog the 443 bright supernovae discovered by the All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN) in $2018-2020$ along with the 519 supernovae recovered by ASAS-SN and 516 additional $m_{peak}\leq18$ mag supernovae missed by ASAS-SN. Our statistical analysis focuses primarily on the 984 supernovae discovered or recovered in ASAS-SN $g$-band observations. The complete sample of 2427 ASAS-SN supernovae includes earlier $V$-band samples and unrecovered supernovae. For each supernova, we identify the host galaxy, its UV to mid-IR photometry, and the offset of the supernova from the center of the host. Updated light curves, redshifts, classifications, and host galaxy identifications supersede earlier results. With the increase of the limiting magnitude to $g\leq18$ mag, the ASAS-SN sample is roughly complete up to $m_{peak}=16.7$ mag and is $90\%$ complete for $m_{peak}\leq17.0$ mag. This is an increase from the $V$-band sample where it was roughly complete up to $m_{peak}=16.2$ mag and $70\%$ complete for $m_{peak}\leq17.0$ mag., Comment: 14 pages, 7 figures, 4 tables. Detached eclipsing binaries are the primary tool used to measure precise masses and radii of stars. In our previous paper estimating the parameters of more than 30,000 detached eclipsing binaries, we identified 766 eclipsing binaries with additional features in their All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN) and Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) light curves. Here, we characterize these "extra-physics" systems, identifying eclipsing binaries with spotted stars, pulsating components, and candidate triple/quadruple systems. We use the Gaia, ATLAS, ZTF, and ASAS-SN variable star catalogs to consider possible blends. We use MIST isochrones and evolutionary tracks to identify systems with main sequence, subgiant, and giant primaries and highlight systems in sparsely populated regions of the color-magnitude diagram. We find that the orbital period distribution of spotted binaries is divided by evolutionary state and find 68 with X-ray detections. For the candidate triple/quadruples and pulsating systems, we calculate the extra orbital/pulsational period and identify systems with resonances. A large fraction of Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) observations over the next decade will be in the near-infrared (NIR), at wavelengths beyond the reach of the current standard light-curve model for SN Ia cosmology, SALT3 ($\sim 2800$--8700$A$ central filter wavelength). To harness this new SN Ia sample and reduce future light-curve standardization systematic uncertainties, we train SALT3 at NIR wavelengths (SALT3-NIR) up to 2 $\mu$m with the open-source model-training software SALTShaker, which can easily accommodate future observations. Using simulated data we show that the training process constrains the NIR model to $\sim 2$--3% across the phase range ($-20$ to $50$ days). We find that Hubble residual (HR) scatter is smaller using the NIR alone or optical+NIR compared to optical alone, by up to $\sim 30$% depending on filter choice (95% confidence). There is significant correlation between NIR light-curve stretch measurements and luminosity, with stretch and color corrections often improving HR scatter by up to $\sim20%$. For SN Ia observations expected from the \textit{Roman Space Telescope}, SALT3-NIR increases the amount of usable data in the SALT framework by $\sim 20$% at redshift $z\lesssim0.4$ and by $\sim 50$% at $z\lesssim0.15$. Detached eclipsing binaries are a fundamental tool for measuring the physical parameters of stars that are effectively evolving in isolation. Starting from more than 40,000 eclipsing binary candidates identified by the All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN), we use PHOEBE to determine the sum of the fractional radii, the ratio of effective temperatures, the inclinations, and the eccentricities for 35,464 systems. We visually inspect all the light curve models to verify the model fits and examine the TESS light curves, when available, to select systems with evidence for additional physics, such as spots, mass transfer, and hierarchical triples. We examine the distributions of the eclipsing binary model parameters and the orbital parameters. We identify two groups in the sum of the fractional radii and effective temperature ratio parameter space that may distinguish systems approaching the semidetached limit. Combining Gaia EDR3 with extinction estimates from 3-dimensional dust maps, we examine the properties of the systems as a function of their absolute magnitude and evolutionary state. The All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN) is the first optical survey to monitor the entire sky, currently with a cadence of $\lesssim 24$ hours down to $g \lesssim 18.5$ mag. ASAS-SN has routinely operated since 2013, collecting $\sim$ 2,000 to over 7,500 epochs of $V$ and $g-$band observations per field to date. This work illustrates the first analysis of ASAS-SN's newer, deeper, higher cadence $g-$band data. From an input source list of ${\sim}55$ million isolated sources with $g<18$~mag, we identified $1.5\times10^6$ variable star candidates using a random forest classifier trained on features derived from $\textit{Gaia}$, 2MASS, and AllWISE. Using ASAS-SN $g-$band light curves, and an updated random forest classifier augmented with data from Citizen ASAS-SN, we classified the candidate variables into 8 broad variability types. We present a catalog of ${\sim}116,000$ new variable stars with high classification probabilities, including ${\sim}111,000$ periodic variables and ${\sim}5,000$ irregular variables. We present early-time photometric and spectroscopic observations of the Type Ia Supernova (SN Ia) 2021aefx. The early time u-band light curve shows an excess flux when compared to normal SNe Ia. We suggest that the early-excess blue flux may be due to a rapid change in spectral velocity in the first few days post explosion, produced by the emission of the Ca II H&K feature passing from the u to the B bands on the time scale of a few days. This effect could be dominant for all SNe Ia which have broad absorption features and early-time velocities over 25,000 km/s. It is likely to be one of the main causes of early-excess u-band flux in SNe Ia which have early-time high-velocities. This effect may also be dominant in the UV filters, as well as in places where the SN spectral energy distribution is quickly rising to longer wavelengths. The rapid change in velocity can only produce a monotonic change (in flux-space) in the u-band. For objects which explode at lower velocities, and have a more structured shape in the early-excess emission, there must also be an additional parameter producing the early-time diversity. The most stringent local measurement of the Hubble-Lema\^itre constant from Cepheid-calibrated Type Ia supernovae (SNe~Ia) differs from the value inferred via the cosmic microwave background radiation ({\it Planck}$+\Lambda$CDM) by $\sim 5\sigma$. This so-called "Hubble tension" has been confirmed by other independent methods, and thus does not appear to be a possible consequence of systematic errors. Here, we continue upon our prior work of using Type II supernovae to provide another, largely-independent method to measure the Hubble-Lema\^itre constant. From 13 SNe~II with geometric, Cepheid, or tip of the red giant branch (TRGB) host-galaxy distance measurements, we derive H$_0= 75.4^{+3.8}_{-3.7}$\,km\,s$^{-1}$\,Mpc$^{-1}$ (statistical errors only), consistent with the local measurement but in disagreement by $\sim 2.0\sigma$ with the {\it Planck}$+\Lambda$CDM value. Using only Cepheids ($N=7$), we find H$_0 = 77.6^{+5.2}_{-4.8}$\,km\,s$^{-1}$\,Mpc$^{-1}$, while using only TRGB ($N=5$), we derive H$_0 = 73.1^{+5.7}_{-5.3}$\,km\,s$^{-1}$\,Mpc$^{-1}$. Via 13 variants of our dataset, we derive a systematic uncertainty estimate of 1.5\,km\,s$^{-1}$\,Mpc$^{-1}$. The median value derived from these variants differs by just 0.3\,km\,s$^{-1}$\,Mpc$^{-1}$ from that produced by our fiducial model. Because we only replace SNe~Ia with SNe~II -- and we do not find statistically significant difference between the Cepheid and TRGB H$_0$ measurements -- our work reveals no indication that SNe~Ia or Cepheids could be the sources of the "H$_0$ tension." Using data from the Complete Nearby ($z_{host}<0.02$) sample of Type Ia Supernovae (CNIa0.02), we discover a linear relation between two parameters derived from the $B-V$ color curves of Type Ia supernovae: the "color stretch" $s_{BV}$ and the rising color slope $s_0^*(B-V)$ after the peak, and this relation applies to the full range of $s_{BV}$. The $s_{BV}$ parameter is known to be tightly correlated with the peak luminosity, and especially for "fast decliners" (dim Type Ia supernovae), and the luminosity correlation with $s_{BV}$ is markedly better than with the classic light-curve width parameters such as $\Delta{m_{15}(B)}$. Thus our new linear relation can be used to infer peak luminosity from $s_0^*$. Unlike $s_{BV}$ (or $\Delta{m_{15}}$), the measurement of $s_0^*(B-V)$ does not rely on the well-determined time of light-curve peak or color maximum, making it less demanding on the light-curve coverage than past approaches., Comment: Submitted to AAS Journals, 7 pages, 4 figures

We present the first results from Citizen ASAS-SN, a citizen science project for the All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN) hosted on the Zooniverse platform. Citizen ASAS-SN utilizes the newer, deeper, higher cadence ASAS-SN $g$-band data and tasks volunteers to classify periodic variable star candidates based on their phased light curves. We started from 40,640 new variable candidates from an input list of ${\sim} 7.4$ million stars with $\delta < -60^\circ$ and the volunteers identified 10,420 new discoveries which they classified as 4,234 pulsating variables, 3,132 rotational variables, 2,923 eclipsing binaries, and 131 variables flagged as Unknown. They classified known variable stars with an accuracy of 89% for pulsating variables, 81% for eclipsing binaries, and 49% for rotational variables. We examine user performance, agreement between users, and compare the citizen science classifications with our machine learning classifier updated for the $g$-band light curves. In general, user activity correlates with higher classification accuracy and higher user agreement. We used the user's "Junk" classifications to develop an effective machine learning classifier to separate real from false variables, and there is a clear path for using this "Junk" training set to significantly improve our primary machine learning classifier. We analyze new multi-filter Hubble Space Telescope (HST) photometry of the normal Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) 2011fe out to $\approx 2400~$days after maximum light, the latest observations to-date of a SN Ia. We model the pseudo-bolometric light curve with a simple radioactive decay model and find energy input from both $^{57}$Co and $^{55}$Fe are needed to power the late-time luminosity. This is the first detection of $^{55}$Fe in a SN Ia. We consider potential sources of contamination such as a surviving companion star or delaying the deposition timescale for $^{56}$Co positrons but these scenarios are ultimately disfavored. The relative isotopic abundances place direct constraints on the burning conditions experienced by the white dwarf (WD). Additionally, we place a conservative upper limit of $< 10^{-3}~M_\odot$ on the synthesized mass of $^{44}$Ti. Only 2 classes of explosion models are currently consistent with all observations of SN2011fe: 1) the delayed detonation of a low-$\rho_c$, near-$\rm{M}_{\rm{Ch}}$ ($1.2-1.3~M_\odot$) WD, or 2) a sub-$\rm{M}_{\rm{Ch}}$ ($1.0-1.1~M_\odot$) WD experiencing a thin-shell double detonation., Comment: 14 pages, 8 figures, 1 table. We present three new spectra of the nearby Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) 2011fe covering $\approx 480-850~$days after maximum light and show that the ejecta undergoes a rapid ionization shift at $\sim 500~$days after explosion. The prominent [FeIII] emission lines at $\approx 4600~$\r{A} are replaced with the permitted FeI+FeII blends at $\sim 4400~$\r{A} and $\sim 5400~$\r{A}. The $\approx 7300~$\r{A} feature, which is produced by [FeII]+[NiII] at $\lesssim 400~$days after explosion, is replaced by broad ($\approx \pm 15\,000~\rm{km}~\rm{s}^{-1}$) symmetric [CaII] emission. Models predict this ionization transition occurring $\sim 100$ days later than what is observed, which we attribute to clumping in the ejecta. Finally, we use the nebular-phase spectra to test several proposed progenitor scenarios for SN2011fe. Non-detections of H and He exclude nearby non-degenerate companions, [OI] non-detections disfavor the violent merger of two white dwarfs, and the symmetric emission-line profiles favor a symmetric explosion., Comment: 8 pages, 1 table, 6 figures. We present optical and near-infrared photometric and spectroscopic observations of the fast-declining Type Ia Supernova (SN) 2015bo. SN 2015bo is under-luminous (M$_B$ = -17.67 $\pm$ 0.15 mag) and has a fast-evolving light curve ($\Delta \mathrm{m}_{15}\mathrm{(B)}$ = 1.91 $\pm$ 0.01 mag and $s_{BV}$ = 0.48 $\pm$ 0.01). It has a unique morphology in the $V-r$ color curve, where it is bluer than all other SNe in the comparison sample. A $^{56}$Ni mass of 0.17 $\pm$ 0.03 $M_{\odot}$ was derived from the peak bolometric luminosity, which is consistent with its location on the luminosity-width relation. Spectroscopically, SN 2015bo is a Cool SN in the Branch classification scheme. The velocity evolution measured from spectral features is consistent with 1991bg-like SNe. SN 2015bo has a SN twin (similar spectra) and sibling (same host galaxy), SN 1997cn. Distance moduli of $\mu$ = 34.33 $\pm$ 0.01 (stat) $\pm$0.11 (sys) mag and $\mu$ = 34.34 $\pm$ 0.04 (stat) $\pm$ 0.12 (sys) mag were derived for SN 2015bo and SN 1997cn, respectively. These distances are consistent at the 0.06-$\sigma$ level with each other, and are also consistent with distances derived using surface-brightness fluctuations and redshift-corrected cosmology. This suggests that fast-declining SNe could be accurate distance indicators which should not be excluded from future cosmological analyses., Comment: Accepted to ApJ. 29 pages, 22 figures

We present spectroscopy and photometry of SN 2018zd, a Type IIP core-collapse supernova with signatures of interaction with circumstantial material in its earliest spectra. High ionization lines, the earmark of shock breakout, are not seen in the earliest spectral epoch, and are only seen in a single spectrum at 4.9 d after explosion. The strength and brevity of these features imply a confined circumstellar material shell in the immediate vicinity of the progenitor. Once the narrow emission lines disappear, SN 2018zd evolves similarly to a Type IIP SN, although the blue colour and enhanced plateau magnitude of SN 2018zd suggests an additional source of luminosity throughout the plateau phase. While SN 2018zd has previously been proposed as an electron-capture SN, we suggest that it is an Fe core-collapse from a low mass red supergiant progenitor. Differences in interpretation for SN 2018zd arise in part due to the large uncertainty on the distance to the host-galaxy NGC 2146, which we re-derive here to be $15.6^{+6.1}_{-3.0}$ Mpc. We find the ejected $^{56}$Ni mass for SN 2018zd to be 0.017 M$_{\odot}$, significantly higher than models of ECSNe predict. We also find the Ni/Fe ratio in SN 2018zd to be much lower that would be expected for an ECSN.

We present observations of SN 2021csp, a unique supernova (SN) which displays evidence for interaction with H- and He- poor circumstellar material (CSM) at early times. Using high-cadence spectroscopy taken over the first week after explosion, we show that the spectra of SN 2021csp are dominated by C III lines with a velocity of 1800 km s$^{-1}$. We associate this emission with CSM lost by the progenitor prior to explosion. Subsequently, the SN displays narrow He lines before metamorphosing into a broad-lined Type Ic SN. We model the bolometric light curve of SN 2021csp, and show that it is consistent with the energetic ($4\times10^{51}$ erg) explosion of a stripped star, producing 0.4 M$_\odot$ of 56Ni within a $\sim$1 M$_\odot$ shell of CSM extending out to 400 R$_\odot$., Comment: 19 pg, submitted

SN 2017jgh is a type IIb supernova discovered by Pan-STARRS during the C16/C17 campaigns of the Kepler/K2 mission. Here we present the Kepler/K2 and ground based observations of SN 2017jgh, which captured the shock cooling of the progenitor shock breakout with an unprecedented cadence. This event presents a unique opportunity to investigate the progenitors of stripped envelope supernovae. By fitting analytical models to the SN 2017jgh lightcurve, we find that the progenitor of SN 2017jgh was likely a yellow supergiant with an envelope radius of $\sim50-290~R_{\odot}$, and an envelope mass of $\sim0-1.7~M_{\odot}$. SN 2017jgh likely had a shock velocity of $\sim7500-10300$ km s$^{-1}$. Additionally, we use the lightcurve of SN 2017jgh to investigate how early observations of the rise contribute to constraints on progenitor models. Fitting just the ground based observations, we find an envelope radius of $\sim50-330~R_{\odot}$, an envelope mass of $\sim0.3-1.7~M_{\odot}$ and a shock velocity of $\sim9,000-15,000$ km s$^{-1}$. Without the rise, the explosion time can not be well constrained which leads to a systematic offset in the velocity parameter and larger uncertainties in the mass and radius. Therefore, it is likely that progenitor property estimates through these models may have larger systematic uncertainties than previously calculated., Comment: 15 pages, 9 figures. Accepted to MNRAS

We report on the search for electromagnetic counterparts to the nine gravitational-wave events with a $>$60\% probability of containing a neutron star during the third (O3) LIGO-Virgo Collaboration (LVC) observing run with the All-Sky Automated Survey for SuperNovae (ASAS-SN). No optical counterparts associated with a gravitational wave event was found. However, thanks to its network of telescopes, the average area visible to at least one ASAS-SN site during the first 10 hours after the trigger contained $\sim$30\% of the integrated source location probability. Through a combination of normal operations and target-of-opportunity observations, ASAS-SN observations of the highest probability fields began within one hour of the trigger for four of the events. After 24 hours, ASAS-SN observed $>$60\% of total probability for three events and $>$40\% for all but one of the events. This is the largest area coverage to a depth of $g = 18.5$ mag from any survey with published coverage statistics for seven of the nine events. We present $V$-band photometry of the 20,000 brightest asteroids using data from the All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN) between 2012 and 2018. We were able to apply the convex inversion method to more than 5,000 asteroids with more than 60 good measurements in order to derive their sidereal rotation periods, spin axis orientations, and shape models. We derive unique spin state and shape solutions for 760 asteroids, including 163 new determinations. This corresponds to a success rate of about 15%, which is significantly higher than the success rate previously achieved using photometry from surveys. We derive the first sidereal rotation periods for additional 69 asteroids. We find good agreement in spin periods and pole orientations for objects with prior solutions. We obtain a statistical sample of asteroid physical properties that is sufficient for the detection of several previously known trends, such as the underrepresentation of slow rotators in current databases, and the anisotropic distribution of spin orientations driven by the nongravitational forces. We also investigate the dependence of spin orientations on the rotation period. We present photometric and spectroscopic observations of the 03fg-like type Ia supernova (SN Ia) ASASSN-15hy from the ultraviolet (UV) to the near-infrared (NIR). ASASSN-15hy shares many of the hallmark characteristics of 03fg-like SNe Ia, previously referred to as "super-Chandrasekhar" SNe Ia. It is bright in the UV and NIR, lacks a clear i-band secondary maximum, shows a strong and persistent C II feature, and has a low Si II $\lambda$6355 velocity. However, some of its properties are also extreme among the subgroup. ASASSN-15hy is under-luminous (M$_{B,peak}=-19.14^{+0.11}_{-0.16}$ mag), red ($(B-V)_{Bmax}=0.18^{+0.01}_{-0.03}$ mag), yet slowly declining ($\Delta{m_{15}}(B)=0.72 \pm 0.04$ mag). It has the most delayed onset of the i-band maximum of any 03fg-like SN. ASASSN-15hy lacks the prominent H-band break emission feature that is typically present during the first month past maximum in normal SNe Ia. Such events may be a potential problem for high-redshift SN Ia cosmology. ASASSN-15hy may be explained in the context of an explosion of a degenerate core inside a non-degenerate envelope. The explosion impacting the non-degenerate envelope with a large mass provides additional luminosity and low ejecta velocities. An initial deflagration burning phase is critical in reproducing the low $^{56}$Ni mass and luminosity, while the large core mass is essential in providing the large diffusion time scales required to produce the broad light curves. The model consists of a rapidly rotating 1.47 $M_{\odot}$ degenerate core and a 0.8 $M_{\odot}$ non-degenerate envelope. We use ASAS V-band and ASAS-SN g-band observations to model the long-period detached eclipsing binary ASASSN-21co. ASAS observations show an eclipse of depth V ~ 0.6 mag in April of 2009. ASAS-SN g-band observations from March of 2021 show an eclipse of similar duration and depth, suggesting an orbital period of 11.9 years. We combine the g-band observations with additional BVRI photometry taken during the eclipse to model the eclipse using PHOEBE. We find that the system is best described by two M giants with a ratio of secondary radius to primary radius of ~0.61. Optical spectra taken during the eclipse are consistent with at least one component of the binary being an M giant, and we find no temporal changes in the spectral features. The eclipse itself is asymmetric, showing an increase in brightness near mid-eclipse, likely due to rotational variability that is too low amplitude to be observed out-of-eclipse., Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure, published in RNAAS

We present a multi-wavelength photometric and spectroscopic analysis of thirteen "Super-Chandrasekhar Mass"/2003fg-like type Ia Supernova (SNe~Ia). Nine of these objects were observed by the Carnegie Supernova Project. 2003fg-like have slowly declining light curves ($\Delta m_{15}$(B) $<$1.3 mag), and peak absolute $B$-band magnitudes between $-19

The majority of non-merging stellar mass black holes are discovered by observing high energy emission from accretion processes. Here we pursue the large, but still mostly unstudied population of non-interacting black holes and neutron stars by searching for the tidally-induced ellipsoidal variability of their stellar companions. We start from a sample of about 200,000 rotational variables, semi-regular variables, and eclipsing binary stars from the All-Sky Automated Survey for Supernovae (ASAS-SN). We use a $\chi^2$ ratio test followed by visual inspection to identify 369 candidates for ellipsoidal variability. We also discuss how to combine the amplitude of the variability with mass and radius estimates for observed stars to calculate a minimum companion mass, identifying the most promising candidates for high mass companions., Comment: 13 pages, 13 figures, 4 tables. We characterize the extreme heartbeat star system MACHO 80.7443.1718 in the LMC using TESS photometry and spectroscopic observations from the Magellan Inamori Kyocera Echelle (MIKE) and SOAR Goodman spectographs. MACHO 80.7443.1718 was first identified as a heartbeat star system in the All-Sky Automated Survey for SuperNovae (ASAS-SN) with $P_{\rm orb}=32.836\pm0.008\,{\rm d}$. MACHO 80.7443.1718 is a young (${\sim}6$~Myr), massive binary, composed of a B0 Iae supergiant with $M_1 \simeq 35 M_\odot$ and an O9.5V secondary with $M_2 \simeq 16 M_\odot$ on an eccentric ($e=0.51\pm0.03$) orbit. In addition to having the largest variability amplitude amongst all known heartbeats stars, MACHO 80.7443.1718 is also one of the most massive heartbeat stars yet discovered. The B[e] supergiant has Balmer emission lines and permitted/forbidden metallic emission lines associated with a circumstellar disk. The disk rapidly dissipates at periastron which could indicate mass transfer to the secondary, but re-emerges immediately following periastron passage. MACHO 80.7443.1718 also shows tidally excited oscillations at the $N=25$ and $N=41$ orbital harmonics and has a rotational period of 4.4 d., Comment: 21 pages, 16 figures. Submitted to MNRAS

We present "Citizen ASAS-SN", a citizen science project hosted on the Zooniverse platform which utilizes data from the All-Sky Automated Survey for SuperNovae (ASAS-SN). Volunteers are presented with ASAS-SN $g$-band light curves of variable star candidates. We present the bolometric lightcurve, identification and analysis of the progenitor candidate, and preliminary modelling of AT2016jbu (Gaia16cfr). We find a progenitor consistent with a $\sim$22--25~$M_{\odot}$ yellow hypergiant surrounded by a dusty circumstellar shell, in agreement with what has been previously reported. We see evidence for significant photometric variability in the progenitor, as well as strong H$\alpha$ emission consistent with pre-existing circumstellar material. The age of the environment as well as the resolved stellar population surrounding AT2016jbu, support a progenitor age of $>$10 Myr, consistent with a progenitor mass of $\sim$22~$M_{\odot}$. A joint analysis of the velocity evolution of AT2016jbu, and the photospheric radius inferred from the bolometric lightcurve shows the transient is consistent with two successive outbursts/explosions. The first outburst ejected material with velocity $\sim$650$kms^{-1}$, while the second, more energetic event, ejected material at $\sim$4500$kms^{-1}$. Whether the latter is the core-collapse of the progenitor remains uncertain. We place a limit on the ejected $^{56}$Ni mass of $<$0.016$M_{\odot}$. Using the BPASS code, we explore a wide range of possible progenitor systems, and find that the majority of these are in binaries, some of which are undergoing mass transfer or common envelope evolution immediately prior to explosion. Finally, we use the SNEC code to demonstrate that the low-energy explosion within some of these binary systems, together with sufficient CSM, can reproduce the overall morphology of the lightcurve of AT2016jbu., Comment: 23 pages, 15 figures, accepted for publication in MNRAS

We present the results from a high cadence, multi-wavelength observation campaign of AT 2016jbu (aka Gaia16cfr), an interacting transient. This dataset complements the current literature by adding higher cadence as well as extended coverage of the lightcurve evolution and late-time spectroscopic evolution. Photometric coverage reveals that AT 2016jbu underwent significant photometric variability followed by two luminous events, the latter of which reached an absolute magnitude of M$_V\sim$-18.5 mag. This is similar to the transient SN 2009ip whose nature is still debated. Spectra are dominated by narrow emission lines and show a blue continuum during the peak of the second event. AT 2016jbu shows signatures of a complex, non-homogeneous circumstellar material (CSM). We see slowly evolving asymmetric hydrogen line profiles, with velocities of 500km$s^{-1}$ seen in narrow emission features from a slow moving CSM, and up to 10,000km$s^{-1}$ seen in broad absorption from some high velocity material. Late-time spectra ($\sim$+1 year) show a lack of forbidden emission lines expected from a core-collapse supernova and are dominated by strong emission from H, He i and Ca ii. Strong asymmetric emission features, a bumpy lightcurve, and continually evolving spectra suggest an inhibit nebular phase. We compare the evolution of H$\alpha$ among SN 2009ip-like transients and find possible evidence for orientation angle effects.
