Clinical course of acute nonspecific lymphadenitis of the face and neck is studied in 241 patients aged 1-14 years in order to improve the diagnosis and therapy of this condition. General clinical examinations were supplemented by laser biophotometry and assessment of the activities of some local defense factors (lysozyme, beta-lysine, secretory and serum IgA). Multiple-modality treatment for the first time included magnetic laser therapy (MLT), and its efficacy is assessed. Results of biophotometry helped define objective criteria for the diagnosis and evaluation of treatment efficacy in children with acute lymphadenitis of the face and neck. MLT proved to be a highly effective treatment modality, decreasing the inflammation and correcting local (oral) defense factors. Use of MLT accelerated all phases of the inflammatory process, promoted its regression at the serous stage, and decreased the incidence of suppurative forms of acute lymphadenitis by 40%.

A total of 102 patients with mandibular fractures were treated by multiple-modality treatment including infrared (IR) laser exposure and magnetic and laser therapy (MT). For monitoring the treatment efficacy and predicting its results, nonspecific defense factors and intensity of free-radical oxidation (FRO) in the saliva were assessed. IR laser and MT by the Uleĭ-2K device stimulated local defense factors, decreased the intensity of salivary FRO, and thus promoted the healing of mandibular fractures.

Based on assessment of the severity of endogenous intoxication, the authors developed a complex differentiated protocol for the treatment of patients with phlegmons of the face and neck, including electrochemical detoxication and intravenous laser exposure of the blood. Such treatment appreciably decreases endogenous intoxication, normalizes homeostasis, more rapidly arrests local pyoinflammatory process, and thus cuts down the duration of treatment and improves its outcomes.

To extend the potentialities of sialography, we used roentgenography with direct multiple amplification of the image by Reis microfocal portable x-ray diagnostic device and analyzed this image by analog UAR-1 computer operating in a high-frequency harmonization mode. The basic feature of such roentgenography is spatial stratification of the object shadow simultaneously forming its spatial image. High-frequency harmonization of an x-ray image essentially improved its contrast, this permitting detection of small formations poorly shown on sialogram, the contours of these formations and relationships between them. A total of 85 patients were examined using this method. Analysis of the resultant sialograms showed that using this method it is possible to assess the status of small structures of the gland, detect the changes in the pharyngeal process of the parotid gland. Sialogram direct projection is no longer needed.

The authors compare the efficacy of IR laser, a combination of magnetic laser radiation and UHF electric field followed dy calcium chloride electrophoresis on the course of mandibular fracture healing. With this purpose 114 patients with uni- and bilateral mandibular fractures were examined and administered a course of preventive treatment. Analysis of the clinical data, subjective sensations of the injured subjects, and data of functional diagnostic methods (rheography, polarography, echo-osteometry) brought the authors to a conclusion on a positive effect ot IR laser and, more so, of magnetic laser therapy on the recovery of regional hemodynamics and oxygen homeostasis of tissues at the site of injury, this being conducive to reduction of pyoinflammatory complications and a sooner rehabilitation of the patients. These results recommend IR laser combined with magnetic field exposure for multiple-modality treatment of patients with mandibular fractures, particularly for those with marked dislocation of bone fragments and regional blood flow disturbances.

The effectiveness of drug and surgical treatments for chronic destructive types of periodontitis was examined in 64 patients with chronic obstructive bronchitis by using clinical, X-ray, and immunological data. The findings suggest that surgical management is more preferable for treating prolonged destructive periodontitis in patients with chronic bronchitis.

In rabbits isolated CO2 and He-Ne laser irradiation promotes early granulation of wounds and accelerates epithelialization with more complete restitution of the regenerated skin organ specificity. The best effect was achieved when combined laser irradiation was applied. This was further corroborated by the immunohistochemical investigation.
