Abstract

Genetic diversity was assessed in 60 pearl millet inbred restorers for 10 agro-morphological and six seed quality traits. High range of variation was observed and trait contribution to genetic diversity depicted that panicle length contributed the maximum (19.04 %) followed by panicle girth (18.76 %). Based on the clustering pattern, a total of 09 clusters were obtained of which Cluster II was the largest and comprised of 39 inbreds followed by cluster III with 10. Cluster mean depicted that cluster I, III and IX comprised of potential lines having a desirable mean performance for the traits studied. Cluster distance was also high among these aforesaid clusters thus suggesting their use in hybrid development as well as in recombination breeding for generating better inbreds in pearl millet.

Abstract

Background: Health of a woman in the family is far more important because whole family revolves around her. Any deviation from the state of normal physical, mental and social well being is morbidity and the morbidity in women at any stage of the life cycle, more so during reproductive age group, adversely affects the quality of life of her own as well as that of whole family. It creates hinderances in the overall development at the individual level and that of the nation as well. Objectives: To assess the morbidity pattern of women in reproductive age group (15-44 years). Material and methods: A cross- sectional study was conducted on the females of reproductive age group (15-44 years) in rural and urban field practice areas of Government Medical College, Amritsar from 1st March 2021 to 28th Feb. 2022. Sample size was calculated using formula N ≥ Z 2 × P × (1-P) / d2 . A pre-tested, semi structured questionnaire was used for collection of the required data. Participants: All females in the age group of 15-44 years who gave a consent to participate in the study were selected. Any female with any congenital disease / malformation / intellectual disability, pregnant female and females who failed to give written informed consent / not willing for participation in the study were excluded. Results: Out of 330 study participants, 146 (44.2%) had one or more types of morbidities at the time of study. The majority (95%) of these morbidities were chronic in nature while a small proportion i.e. 5% were acute. The system involved in multiple morbidities was reproductive and gynaecological system in majority (43.8%) of study participants which was followed by cardiovascular system (9.6%), musculoskeletal system (9.3%), central nervous system (4.2%), metabolic, ENT and urinary system (3.9% each), gastrointestinal system (3.3%), skin (2.4%) and respiratory system (2.1%). Conclusions: The pattern of morbidity in females of reproductive age group turned out to be Reproductive and Gynecological inclusive of menstrual disturbances, PID, fibroid, RTIs, STIs, vaginal discharge etc. followed by cardiovascular system (9.6%), musculoskeletal system (9.3%), central nervous system (4.2%), metabolic, ENT and urinary system (3.9% each), gastrointestinal system (3.3%), skin (2.4%) and respiratory system (2.1%). 42. SEASONAL INCIDENCE OF MAJOR INSECT PESTS OF SESAME.

Abstract

This study explores the seasonal incidence of major insect pests of sesame at the Entomology Research Farm of the College of Agriculture, RVSKVV, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh during kharif, 2019. The results revealed that- among the sucking pests, the incidence of leafhopper Orosius albicinctus exhibited a positive and significant correlation with evening relative humidity (RH) and rainfall; and with evaporation it was significantly negative. The whitefly Bemisia tabaci did not show any significant correlation with weather factors. Of the other major pests, incidence of horned caterpillar Acherontia styx was observed to be significantly positively correlated with rainfall, evening RH and minimum temperature whereas it was a significant negative one with evaporation. With leafroller and capsule borer Antigastra catalaunalis it was a significant positive correlation with morning/ evening RH and rainfall, and a significant negative one with evaporation. Pod damage by A. catalaunalis was significantly negatively correlated with maximum and minimum temperature. The mirid Nesidiocoris tenuis showed a positive correlation with morning RH, and a significantly negative one with maximum temperature and evaporation. The incidence of gall fly Asphondylia sesami revealed a significant positive correlation with morning RH, while it was a significant negative one with evaporation and maximum temperature.
