Recent advancements in the field have centered on the design optimization and miniaturization of wearable biosensors. Wireless communication technologies have facilitated the simultaneous, non-invasive detection of multiple analytes with high sensitivity and selectivity through wearable biosensors, significantly enhancing diagnostic accuracy. This review meticulously chronicles noteworthy advancements in wearable sensors tailored for healthcare and biomedical applications, spanning the current market landscape, challenges faced, and prospective trends, including multifunctional smart wearable sensors and integrated decision-support systems. The domain of flexible electronics has witnessed substantial progress over the past decade, particularly in flexible strain sensors, which are crucial for contemporary wearable and implantable devices. These innovations have broadened the scope of applications in human health monitoring and diagnostics. Continuous advancements in novel materials and device architectural methodologies aim to expand the utility of these sensors while meeting the increasingly stringent demands for enhanced sensing performance. This review explores the diverse array of wearable sensors-from piezoelectric, piezoresistive, and capacitive sensors to advanced optical and bioimpedance sensors-each distinguished by unique material properties and functionalities. We analyzed these technologies' sensitivity, accuracy, and response time, which were crucial for reliably capturing strain metrics in dynamic, real-world conditions. Quantitative performance comparisons across various sensor types highlighted their relative effectiveness, strengths, and limitations regarding detection precision, durability, and user comfort. Additionally, we discussed the current challenges in wearable sensor design, including energy efficiency, data transmission, and integration with machine learning models for enhanced data interpretation. Existing fossil-based commercial products present a significant threat to the depletion of global natural resources and the conservation of the natural environment. Also, the ongoing generation of waste is giving rise to challenges in waste management. Conventional practices for the management of waste, for instance, incineration and landfilling, emit gases that contribute to global warming. Additionally, the need for energy is escalating rapidly due to the growing populace and industrialization. To address this escalating desire in a sustainable manner, access to clean and renewable sources of energy is imperative for long-term development of mankind. These interrelated challenges can be effectively tackled through the scientific application of biowaste-to-bioenergy technologies. The current article states an overview of the strategies and current status of these technologies, including anaerobic digestion, transesterification, photobiological hydrogen production, and alcoholic fermentation which are utilized to convert diverse biowastes such as agricultural and forest residues, animal waste, and municipal waste into bioenergy forms like bioelectricity, biodiesel, bio alcohol, and biogas. Recent developments in nanoscale materials have found extensive use in various fields, especially in the biomedical industry. Several substantial obstacles must be overcome, particularly those related to nanostructured materials in biomedicine, before they can be used in therapeutic applications. Significant concerns in biomedicine include biological processes, adaptability, toxic effects, and nano-biointerfacial properties. Biomedical researchers have difficulty choosing suitable materials for drug carriers, cancer treatment, and antiviral uses. Carbon nanomaterials are among the various nanoparticle forms that are continually receiving interest for biomedical applications. They are suitable materials owing to their distinctive physical and chemical properties, such as electrical, high-temperature, mechanical, and optical diversification. An individualized, controlled, dependable, low-carcinogenic, target-specific drug delivery system can diagnose and treat infections in biomedical applications. The variety of carbon materials at the nanoscale is remarkable. Allotropes and other forms of the same element, carbon, are represented in nanoscale dimensions. These show promise for a wide range of applications. Carbon nanostructured materials with exceptional mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties include graphene and carbon nanotubes. They can potentially revolutionize industries, including electronics, energy, and medicine. Ongoing investigation and expansion efforts continue to unlock possibilities for these materials, making them a key player in shaping the future of advanced technology. Perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acids (PFCAs) exhibit high chemical and thermal stability, rendering them versatile for various applications. However, their notable toxicity poses environmental and human health concerns. Detecting trace amounts of these chemicals is crucial to mitigate risks. Electrochemical sensors surpass traditional methods in sensitivity, selectivity, and cost-effectiveness. In this study, a graphene nanosheet-based sensor was developed for detecting perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorodecanoic acid (PFDA). Using the Hummer method, graphene nanosheets were synthesized and characterized in terms of morphology, structural ordering, and surface topology. Ab initio molecular dynamics simulations determined the molecular interaction of per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) with the sensor material. The sensor exhibited high sensitivity (50.75 μA·μM -1 ·cm -2 for PFOA and 29.58 μA·μM -1 ·cm -2 for PFDA) and low detection limits (10.4 nM for PFOA and 16.6 nM for PFDA) within the electrode dynamic linearity range of 0.05-500.0 μM (PFOA) and 0.08-500.0 μM (PFDA). Under optimal conditions, the sensor demonstrated excellent selectivity and recovery in testing for PFOA and PFDA in environmental samples, including spiked soil, water, spoiled vegetables, and fruit samples.

Microplastics (MPs) have become the major global concern due to their adverse effects on the environment, human health, and hygiene. These complex molecules have numerous toxic impacts on human well-being. This review focuses on the methods for chemically quantifying and identifying MPs in real-time samples, as well as the detrimental effects resulting from exposure to them. Biopolymers offer promising solutions for reducing the environmental impact caused by persistent plastic pollution. The photocatalytic removal of toxic chemical pollutants from wastewater has garnered significant attention in recent times owing to its notable removal efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and eco-friendly characteristics. Nonetheless, this catalytic process necessitates augmented charge separation and distinctive interface properties to facilitate catalytic reactions for water treatment applications. Therefore, in the current study, novel g-C 3 N 4 /Ni-doped ZrO 2 heterostructured hybrid catalysts have been synthesized via a hydrothermal approach. Microscopic studies reveal that ZrO 2 nanospheres were distributed on the layered-like 2D structure of g-C 3 N 4 nanosheets. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-DRS), and photoluminescence (PL) characterizations were employed to investigate the impact of bandgap, electron-hole recombination, charge transfer, and interface properties on the catalytic performance of g-C 3 N 4 /ZrO 2 hybrids. XRD analysis confirmed that the Ni-ions do not disturb the host lattice crystal structure and heterostructure development between g-C 3 N 4 and doped ZrO 2 sample. Structurally, Ni-doped nanoparticles were found to be equally superficially dispersed on g-C 3 N 4 sheets. Optical analysis results suggest that the hybrid catalyst possesses a narrow bandgap of 2.56 eV. The synthesized photocatalyst degraded rhodamine B (RhB) and tetracycline (TC) with ∼92% and ∼89% degradation efficiency, respectively. Heterostructured hybrid catalysts showed superior degradation rate constants than other catalysts. This might be attributed to the sufficient separation of electron-hole due to the development of a heterojunction. The radical scavenging experiments suggested that O 2 ●- and ● OH radicals contributed substantially to the dye elimination activity of the composite. The abstract highlights the development of an electroanalytical sensor for the detection of 2-phenylphenol (2-PPL) as a contaminant. The novelty of the experiment lies in the utilization of a 1-D nanostructured WO 3 /CuO nanocomposite integrated with a carbon paste electrode (CPE). The hydrothermal method was used to synthesize the WO 3 NPs, which were then characterized using Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) techniques. Tungsten oxides (WO 3 ) have been the subject of extensive study because of their many desirable characteristics, including their ease of preparation, tunable stoichiometry, crystal structure, particle morphology, 2.6 eV bandgap, excellent photocatalytic oxidation capacity, non-toxic nature, and widespread availability. The narrow band gap in CuO makes it an ideal sensing material. Copper oxide has applications in many different industries because it is a semiconductor metal with a narrow band gap in the spectrum of 1.2-1.9 eV and unique optical, electrical, and magnetic properties. Techniques like cyclic voltammetry (CV), and square wave voltammetry (SWV) were used. Real sample analysis was carried out in real-world samples like different types of soil, vegetables, and water. The electroanalytical sensor showed outstanding catalytic behavior by enhancing the peak current of the 2-phenylphenol with the potential shift to the less positive side compared to the unmodified carbon paste electrode in the presence of pH 7.0 phosphate buffer solution (PB). Throughout the experimental study, double distilled was used. Various electro-kinetic parameters like pH, accumulation time study, scan rate, concentration variation, standard heterogeneous rate constant, and participation of electrons, accumulation time, and transfer coefficient have been studied at WO 3 /CuO/CPE. The limit of detection was quantified together with the limit of quantification. Possible electrochemical oxidation mechanism of the toxic molecule was depicted. Sustainable technologies pave the way to address future energy demand by converting lignocellulosic biomass into fuels, carbon-neutral materials, and chemicals which might replace fossil fuels. Thermochemical and biochemical technologies are conventional methods that convert biomass into value-added products. To enhance biofuel production, the existing technologies should be upgraded using advanced processes. In this regard, the present review explores the advanced technologies of thermochemical processes such as plasma technology, hydrothermal treatment, microwave-based processing, microbial-catalyzed electrochemical systems, etc. Advanced biochemical technologies such as synthetic metabolic engineering and genomic engineering have led to the development of an effective strategy to produce biofuels. The microwave-plasma-based technique increases the biofuel conversion efficiency by 97% and the genetic engineering strains increase the sugar production by 40%, inferring that the advanced technologies enhances the efficiency. Low-cost and reliable wastewater treatment is a relevant issue worldwide to reduce the concentration of environmental pollutants. Industrial effluents containing dyes, heavy metals, and other inorganic and organic compounds can pollute water resources; therefore, novel technologies are required to mitigate and control their release into the environment. Adsorption is one of the simplest methods for treating contaminated water in which a wide spectrum of adsorbents can be used to remove emerging compounds. Hydrogels are interesting materials with high adsorption capacities that can be synthesized via green routes. These adsorbents are promising for large-scale industrial wastewater treatment applications; however, gaps still exist in achieving sustainable commercial implementation. This review focuses on the discussion and analysis of preparation, characterization, and adsorption properties of hydrogels for water purification. The advantages of these polymeric materials for water treatment were analyzed, including their performance in the removal of different organic and inorganic contaminants. Recent advances in the functionalization of hydrogels and the synthesis of novel composites have also been described. The adsorption capacities of hydrogel-based adsorbents are higher than 500 mg/g for different organic and inorganic pollutants, and can reach values of up to >2000 mg/g for organic compounds, significantly outperforming other materials reported for water cleaning. The main interactions involved in the adsorption of water pollutants using hydrogel-based adsorbents were described and explained to allow the interpretation of their removal mechanisms. The current challenges in the implementation of hydrogels for water purification in real-life operations are also highlighted. Procaine hydrochloride (P.HCl) is one of the earliest and most well-established local anesthetic drugs used in medicine. Though it is employed frequently for effective clinical nerve blocks during surgeries, its immoderate administration has often shown reports of systemic toxicity. To prevent such repercussions, developing a sensor for the drug is crucial to enable real-time monitoring of the drug and assist in quality control procedures during its industrial preparations. Thus, in this work, we have fabricated a simple yet highly selective and sensitive amperometric sensor for P.HCl detection based on a Barium-oxide multi-wall carbon nanotube-modified carbon paste electrode (BaO-MWCNT/CPE). Herein, we have adopted a novel approach devoid of sophisticated procedures and pretreatments for rapidly determining P.HCl. Furthermore, experimental conditions, including supporting electrolytes, pH, and scan rate, were optimized to achieve a well-defined P.HCl anodic peak current at 631 mV, which is lower than the previously reported peak potentials, indicating an advantage of reduced overpotential. Besides, a striking 66-fold rise in current responsiveness to P.HCl was achieved upon modification with BaO-MWCNT. Such an intense signal enhancement upon electrode modification compared to bare CPE was due to the strong electrocatalytic feature of BaO-MWCNT, which was verified using surface morphology studies with scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Additionally, the charge transfer kinetics analyzed via electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) justified the enhancement of electrocatalytic activity upon electrode modification. The developed sensor exhibited a remarkable analytical performance over a wide linear dynamic range of 2.0-100.0 µM with a detection limit of 0.14 µM. Moreover, a significant merit of this sensor is its excellent selectivity towards P.HCl even in the presence of various common interferants. Novel heterostructured hybrid catalysts are essential for the efficient photocatalytic removal of organic pollutants from wastewater generated by the pharmaceutical and textile industries. In this study, novel g-C 3 N 4 /BiVO 4 nanohybrid catalysts were prepared using a solvothermal technique, and examined their structural and optical properties using different characterizations. The X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the monoclinic crystal phase of BiVO 4 . Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) images revealed that g-C 3 N 4 sheets anchored on the surface of BiVO 4 nanospheres. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis confirmed the oxidation states of g-C 3 N 4 /BiVO 4 composite sample. UV-Vis DRS spectroscopy analysis revealed that the composite (2.08 eV) sample had a reduced bandgap compared to other samples. The photocatalytic properties of the prepared samples were tested in the presence of organic methylene blue (MB) and antibiotic tetracycline (TC) pollutants under visible light illumination. The hybrid composite catalyst exhibited enhanced photocatalytic degradation efficiency of MB (88%) and TC (89%) pollutants at elevated rate constants of 0.0128 and 0.01174 min -1 , respectively. The improved catalytic performance of the composite catalyst is due to the heterojunctions between g-C 3 N 4 and BiVO 4 that successfully reduced the rate of charge carrier recombination in the catalyst system. Scavenger experiments revealed that O 2 ●- and h + radicals played a main role in the degradation of the chemical pollutants. The mother earth is a source of natural resources that, in conjunction with anthropogenic activities, generates a wide spectrum of different biowastes. These biomaterials can be used as low-cost raw feedstock to produce bioenergy, value-added products, and other commodities. However, the improper management and disposal of these biowastes can generate relevant environmental impacts. Consequently, it is imperative to explore alternative technologies for the valorization and exploitation of these wastes to obtain benefits for the society. This review covers different aspects related to valorization of biowastes and their applications in water pollution, soil fertility and green energy generation. The classification and characteristics of different biowastes (biosolids, animal wastes and effluents, plant biomass, wood and green wastes) including their main generation sources are discussed. Different technologies (e.g., pyrolysis, hydrothermal carbonization, anaerobic digestion, gasification, biodrying) for the transformation and valorization of these residues are also analyzed. The application of biowastes in soil fertility, environmental pollution and energy production are described and illustrative examples are provided. Finally, the challenges related to implement low-cost and sustainable biowaste management strategies are highlighted. It was concluded that reliable simulation studies are required to optimize all the logistic stages of management chain of these residues considering the constraints generated from the economic, environmental and social aspects of the biowaste generation sources and their locations. The recollection and sorting of biowastes are key parameters to minimize the costs associated to their management and valorization. Also, the concepts of Industry 4.0 can contribute to achieve a successful commercial production of the value-added products obtained from the biowaste valorization. To curtail pathogens or tumors, antimicrobial or antineoplastic drugs have been developed. These drugs target microbial/cancer growth and survival, thereby improving the host's health. In attempts to evade the detrimental effects of such drugs, these cells have evolved several mechanisms over time. Some variants of the cells have developed resistances against multiple drugs or antimicrobial agents. Such microorganisms or cancer cells are said to exhibit multidrug resistance (MDR). The drug resistance status of a cell can be determined by analyzing several genotypic and phenotypic changes, which are brought about by significant physiological and biochemical alterations. Owing to their resilient nature, treatment and management of MDR cases in clinics is arduous and requires a meticulous approach. Currently, techniques such as plating and culturing, biopsy, gene sequencing, and magnetic resonance imaging are prevalent in clinical practices for determining drug resistance status. However, the major drawbacks of using these methods lie in their time-consuming nature and the problem of translating them into point-of-care or mass-detection tools. To overcome the shortcomings of conventional techniques, biosensors with a low detection limit have been engineered to provide quick and reliable results conveniently. These devices are highly versatile in terms of analyte range and quantities that can be detected to report drug resistance in a given sample. A brief introduction to MDR, along with a detailed insight into recent biosensor design trends and use for identifying multidrug-resistant microorganisms and tumors, is presented in this review.

Lab-on-a-chip (LOC) biosensors have recently piqued the interest of the research community as a result of its potential utility in personal healthcare and disease diagnostics. LOCs devices have been consistently developed over the last decades as merging microfluidics onto a single chip for performing many lab studies at the same time, such as biochemical and biomolecular detection. Molding, microcontact printing, micromachining, and other techniques were used in the preliminary advancement of miniature sensing platforms known as micro total analysis systems (μTAS). These time-consuming and multi-step processes were utilized to create structures on a micrometer size. As time passes, new approaches and modifications for replacing rigid substrates with flexible substrates were developed. Over the years, paper and plastic substrates have shown unique properties such as durability, flexibility, mobility, cost-effective, and simple manufacturing procedure owing to their compatibility with a wide range of printing equipment. This review discusses the different types of fabrication methods and techniques such as photolithography, soft lithography, screen printing, inkjet printing, laser micromachining, nanoimprinting for designing LOC sensing devices extensively. The types of transduction systems which includes electrochemical, optical and mechanical that play an important role in sensing devices have also been extensively described in this manuscript. In recent years, an increasing amount of attention has been paid to utilizing dedicated waste biomass as a sustainable, cheap, and abundant fuel and material source. There is a tremendous opportunity for maximizing energy production by applying different reliable waste biomass as a renewable, affordable, and excellent resource. As a result of renewable hydrocarbons such as biomass, bioenergy is produced, green chemicals are manufactured, and carbon materials are made. Furthermore, biomass can be utilized as a source of advanced carbon materials. Carbon materials derived from biomass can also be used to support catalysts in fuel cells with polymer electrolyte membranes. For the fabrication of electrochemical sensors, porous carbonaceous materials generated from biomass are highly advised owing to their specific qualities, including regenerative nature, affordability, distinctive structure, and sustainability. The surface morphology of the sensor, especially its pore volume, surface area, and pore size affects both its electrochemical and catalytic activity. Metal nanoparticle activation, doping, and dispersion are just a few of the methods that may be used to improve the performance of sensors. To detect a variety of target analytes, such as biomolecules, metal ions, contaminants, food additives, and flavonoids, some of the key or seminal advances in the field of biomass-derived carbonaceous compounds are discussed. The materials and composites made of biomass-derived carbon will be in-depth examined, evaluated, and compared in this review. The associated technological difficulties are also discussed, and future research areas are suggested for use in practical applications. Nano carbon materials have several integrated advantages, including good electrical conductivity, structural and chemical flexibility, reduced chemical functionalization, and bulk production potential, making them viable candidates for various electrochemical processes. In the coming years, bio-carbon production from waste biomass is expected to gain rapid scientific and industrial interest because it will be used in electrochemical devices and rechargeable batteries. We emphasize the variety of waste biomass precursors that are accessible, as well as the recent developments in the manufacture of bio-carbon. The current study elucidates the fundamentals of technical, financial, and environmental viability of the processes used for sustainable "drop-in" fuel generation. At present, the price of producing "drop-in" fuels is around two times as costly (5-6 USD/gallon) as the cost of fossil fuels (3 USD/gallon), especially when using second-generation feedstocks. Hence, this necessitates a comprehensive techno-economic understanding of the current technologies with respect to "drop-in"-fuel. This entitles technical-economic viability, and environmental sustainability to make the processes involved commercially viable. In this context, the present review addresses unique contrasts among the various processes involved in "drop-in" fuel production. Furthermore, principles and process flow of techno-economic analysis as well as environmental implications in terms of reduced carbon footprint and carbon credit are elucidated to discuss fundamentals of techno-economic analysis in terms of capital and operational expenditure, revenue, simulation, cash flow analysis, mass and energy balances with respect to evidence-based practices. Chlorinated organic compounds are useful chemicals or intermediates that are used extensively in both industry and agriculture. The 4-chlorophenol (4CP) in low concentration poses a serious environmental problem and causes many health issues, including cancer and liver disease. In this work, we demonstrated the detection of 4CP at carbon paste electrodes modified using tungsten oxide (WO 3 ) nanorods and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanoparticles. The significance of pH on the voltammetric response of 4CP was investigated, and it was discovered that an alkaline pH is an optimal condition for detecting substituted phenols. Moreover, parameters like heterogeneous rate constant, accumulation time, temperature effect, Gibb's free energy, scan rate, enthalpy, activation energy, and entropy were studied. The excellent catalytic and bulk properties of tungsten oxide nanostructures make it an effective modifier in electrochemical sensors. The employment of nanostructured WO 3 for the assay of 4CP offers excellent sensitivity, selectivity, and applicability. The WO 3 nanostructures are obtained hydrothermally and characterized in detail to understand the crystalline, quantitative and chemical properties. The electrochemical behavior of 4CP was studied utilizing voltammetry techniques. The CV technique was used to optimize and affect many factors in the electrochemical behavior of 4CP. The scan rate investigation helps to examine the physicochemical characteristics of the electrode process, and the electrooxidation of 4CP included 2 electrons and 2 protons. With 4CP, the modified electrode displayed a broad range of linearity. The limit of detection was determined to be 0.102 nM, while the limit of quantification was 0.3433 nM. The concentration of 4CP ranged between 0.1 × 10 -7  M and 3.5 × 10 -7  M. The fabricated electrode was also used to detect 4CP in soil and water samples. Good recoveries were obtained from the soil and water samples. The present study involves detecting and determining CIP by a new electrochemical sensor based on graphene (Gr) in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) employing voltammetric techniques. Surface morphology studies of the sensing material were analyzed using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and atomic force microscope (AFM). In the electroanalysis of CIP at the developed electrode, an enhanced anodic peak response was recorded, suggesting the electro-oxidation of CIP at the electrode surface. Furthermore, we evaluated the impact of the electrolytic solution, scan rate, accumulation time, and concentration variation on the electrochemical behavior of CIP. The possible electrode mechanism was proposed based on the acquired experimental information. A concentration variation study was performed using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) in the lower concentration range, and the fabricated electrode achieved a detection limit of 2.9 × 10 -8 M. The proposed sensor detected CIP in pharmaceutical and biological samples. The findings displayed good recovery, with 93.8% for tablet analysis and 93.3% to 98.7% for urine analysis. The stability of a developed electrode was tested by inter- and intraday analysis.

The antibiotic drug trimethoprim (TMP) is used to treat bacterial infections in humans and animals, and frequently TMP is used along with sulfonamides. However, a large portion of TMP is excreted in its active state, which poses a severe problem to humans and the environment. A sensitive, rapid, cost-effective analytical tool is required to monitor the TMP concentration in biological and environmental samples. Hence, this study proposed an analytical methodology to analyze TMP in clinical, biological and environmental samples. The investigations were carried out using a glucose-modified carbon paste electrode (G-CPE) employing voltammetric techniques. Electrochemical behavior was examined with 0.5 mM TMP solution at optimum pH 3.4 (Phosphate Buffer Solution, I = 0.2 M). The influence of scan rate on the electro-oxidation of TMP was studied within the range of 0.05 to 0.55 V/s. The effect of pH and scan rate variations revealed proton transfer during oxidation. Moreover, diffusion phenomena governed the irreversibility of the electrode reaction. A probable and suitable electrode interaction and reaction mechanism was proposed for the electrochemical oxidation of TMP. Further, the TMP was quantitatively estimated with the differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) technique in the concentration range from 9.0 × 10 -7 to 1.0 × 10 -4 M. The tablet, spiked water and urine analysis demonstrated that the selected method and developed electrode were rapid, simple, sensitive, and cost-effective.

In this research, detection of trimethoprim (TMP) was carried out using a nanostructured zinc oxide nanoparticle-modified carbon paste electrode (ZnO/CPE) with an anionic surfactant and sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) with the help of voltametric techniques. The electrochemical nature of TMP was studied in 0.2 M pH 3.0 phosphate-buffer solution (PBS). The developed electrode displayed the highest peak current compared to nascent CPE. Effects of variation in different parameters, such as pH, immersion time, scan rate, and concentration, were investigated. The electrode process of TMP was irreversible and diffusion controlled with two electrons transferred. The effective concentration range (8.0 × 10 -7 M-1.0 × 10 -5 M) of TMP was obtained by varying the concentration with a lower limit of detection obtained to be 2.58 × 10 -8 M. In addition, this approach was effectively employed in the detection of TMP in pharmaceutical dosages and samples of urine with the excellent recovery data, suggesting the potency of the developed electrode in clinical and pharmaceutical sample analysis.

Increasing demand of pure and accessible water and improper disposal of waste into the existing water resources are the major challenges for sustainable development. Nanoscale technology is an effective approach that is increasingly being applied to water remediation. Compared to conventional water treatment processes, silver nanotechnology has been demonstrated to have advantages due to its anti-microbial and oligodynamic (biocidal) properties. This review is focused on environmentally friendly green syntheses of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and their applications for the disinfection and microbial control of wastewater. A bibliometric keyword analysis is conducted to unveil important keywords and topics in the utilisation of AgNPs for water treatment applications. The effectiveness of AgNPs, as both free nanoparticles (NPs) or as supported NPs (nanocomposites), to deal with noxious pollutants like complex dyes, heavy metals as well as emerging pollutants of concern is also discussed. This knowledge dataset will be helpful for researchers to identify and utilise the distinctive features of AgNPs and will hopefully stimulate the development of novel solutions to improve wastewater treatment. Incorporating new pollutants and environmental pollution has become a formidable issue as new pollutants are introduced into it and have become a significant concern in recent years. Detection of such pollutants needs a susceptible, selective, and cost-effective sensor that can sense their presence and quantify them at a trace level. In the present study, we have designed a 2D graphene oxide (GO)-based glassy carbon electrode (GCE) electrochemical sensor (GO/GCE) and utilized it as a sensing material for the detection and determination of CRZ. The voltammetric behavior of CRZ was studied using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and square wave voltammetry (SWV) techniques. The SWV was applied to quantify and analyze CRZ in actual samples. A better response of CRZ was noticed at GO/GCE when phosphate buffer solution of pH 4.2 was used as a supporting electrolyte for to experiment. The SWV technique achieved trace-level detection of CRZ. A linearity plot was obtained for the concentration range of 1.0 × 10 -7  M to 2.5 × 10 -4  M with a limit of detection of 1.38 × 10 -8  M. The selectivity of the modified sensor was verified by the interference study of metal ions and other pesticides with CRZ. The use of the herbicide aminotriazole (3-ATA) in agriculture poses rising concerns about global water-borne contamination. Due to its toxicity which is known to cause cancer and thyroid dysfunction, 3-ATA is considered an important analytical target. Environmental protection agencies worldwide have introduced several directives that set concentration limits for chemicals to combat water pollution. Hence, to evaluate the presence of 3-ATA in water and limit their impact on ecosystems and human health, the development of an efficient real-time monitoring device is the key. The as-synthesized copper oxide decorated multiwall carbon nanotubes at 400 °C (CuO-MWCNT@400) showed remarkable efficiency as modifiers. Under optimal conditions, we explored the direct oxidation of 3-ATA at CuO-MWCNT@400 modified carbon paste electrode (MCPE). With its distinguishing synergistic features like high levels of porosity, stability, and surface area, this structure favoured greater detection, selectivity, and sensitivity. The amperometric i-t curve technique was adopted for the first time for 3-ATA quantification. This technique rendered a good detection sensitivity of 1.65 × 10 -8  mol L -1 and anti-interference characteristics for several interferent species, including fungicides, fertilizers, herbicides, inorganic ions, and carbohydrates. Finally, the proof-of-concept was yielded by selective and sensitive detection of 3-ATA from two different samples of spiked water. Carbon nanofibers (CNFs) display colossal potential in different fields like energy, catalysis, biomedicine, sensing, and environmental science. CNFs have revealed extensive uses in various sensing platforms due to their distinctive structure, properties, function, and accessible surface functionalization capabilities. This review presents insight into various fabrication methods for CNFs like electrospinning, chemical vapor deposition, and template methods with merits and demerits of each technique. Also, we give a brief overview of CNF functionalization. Their unique physical and chemical properties make them promising candidates for the sensor applications. This review offers detailed discussion of sensing applications (strain sensor, biosensor, small molecule detection, food preservative detection, toxicity biomarker detection, and gas sensor). Various sensing applications of CNF like human motion monitoring and energy storage and conversion are discussed in brief. The challenges and obstacles associated with CNFs for futuristic applications are discussed. This review will be helpful for readers to understand the different fabrication methods and explore various applications of the versatile CNFs.

The electrochemical analysis of theophylline (THP) was investigated by fabricating a carbon paste electrode (CPE) modified with graphene oxide (GO) along with copper oxide (CuO) nanoparticles (CuO-GO/CPE). The impact of electro-kinetic parameters such as the heterogeneous rate constant, the scan rate, the accumulation time, the pH, the transfer coefficient, and the number of electrons and protons transferred into the electro-oxidation mechanism of THP has been studied utilizing electrochemical methods such as cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The differential pulse voltammetry technique was employed to investigate THP in pharmaceutical and biological samples, confirming the limit of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) of the THP. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis were performed to characterize the CuO nanoparticles. The CuO-GO/CPE was more sensitive in THP detection because its electrocatalytic characteristics displayed an enhanced peak current in the 0.2 M supporting electrolyte of pH 6.0, proving the excellent sensing functioning of the modified electrode.

Pramipexole (PMXL) belongs to the benzothiazole class of aromatic compounds and is used in treating Parkinson's disease; however, overdosage leads to some abnormal effects that could trigger severe side effects. Therefore, it demands a sensitive analytical tool for trace level detection. In this work, we successfully developed an electrochemical sensor for the trace level detection of PMXL, using the voltammetric method. For the analysis, graphitic carbon nitride (gCN) was opted and synthesized by using a high-temperature thermal condensation method. The synthesized nanoparticles were employed for surface characterization, using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and atomic force microscopy (AFM) techniques. The electrochemical characterization of the material was evaluated by using the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technique to evaluate the solution-electrode interface property. The cyclic voltammetry (CV) behavior of PMXL displayed an anodic peak in the forward scan, indicating that PMXL underwent electrooxidation, and an enhanced detection peak with lower detection potential was achieved for gCN-modified carbon paste electrode (gCN·CPE). The influence of different parameters on the electrochemical behavior was analyzed, revealing the diffusion governing the electrode process with an equal number of hydronium ions and electron involvement. For the fabricated gCN·CPE, good linearity range was noticed from 0.05 to 500 µM, and a lower detection limit (L D ) of 0.012 µM was achieved for the selected concentration range (0.5 to 30 µM). Selectivity of the electrode in PMXL detection was investigated by conducting an interference study, while the tablet sample analysis demonstrates the sensitive and real-time application of the electrode. The good recovery values for the analysis illustrate the efficiency of the electrode for PMXL analysis.

The leading cause of gynecological cancer-related morbidity and mortality is ovarian cancer (OC), which is dubbed a silent killer. Currently, OC is a target of intense biomarker research, because it is often not discovered until the disease is advanced. The goal of OC research is to develop effective tests using biomarkers that can detect the disease at the earliest stages, which would eventually decrease the mortality, thereby preventing recurrence. Therefore, there is a pressing need to revisit the existing biomarkers to recognize the potential biomarkers that can lead to efficient predictors for the OC diagnosis. This Perspective covers an update on the currently available biomarkers used in the triaging of OC to gain certain insights into the potential role of these biomarkers and their estimation that are crucial to the understanding of neoplasm progression, diagnostics, and therapy.

Artificially simulated photosynthesis has created substantial curiosity as the majority of efforts in this arena have been aimed to upsurge solar fuel efficiencies for commercialization. The layered inorganic 2D nanosheets offer considerably higher tunability of their chemical surface, physicochemical properties and catalytic activity. Despites the intrinsic advantages of such metal-based materials viz., metal oxides, transition metal dichalcogenides, metal oxyhalides, metal organic frameworks, layered double hydroxide, MXene's, boron nitride, black phosphorous and perovskites, studies on such systems are limited for applications in photocatalytic CO 2 reduction. The role of metal-based layers for CO 2 conversion and new strategies such as surface modifications, defect generation and heterojunctions to optimize their functionalities are discussed in this review. Graphene is an intriguing two-dimensional honeycomb-like carbon material with a unique basal plane structure, charge carrier mobility, thermal conductivity, wide electrochemical spectrum, and unusual physicochemical properties. Therefore, it has attracted considerable scientific interest in the field of nanoscience and bionanotechnology. The high specific surface area of graphene allows it to support high biomolecule loading for good detection sensitivity. As such, graphene, graphene oxide (GO), and reduced GO are excellent materials for the fabrication of new nanocomposites and electrochemical sensors. Graphene has been widely used as a chemical building block and/or scaffold with various materials to create highly sensitive and selective electrochemical sensing microdevices. Over the past decade, significant advancements have been made by utilizing graphene and graphene-based nanocomposites to design electrochemical sensors with enhanced analytical performance. This review focus on the synthetic strategies, as well as the structure-to-function studies of graphene, electrochemistry, novel multi nanocomposites combining graphene, limit of detection, stability, sensitivity, assay time. Butyl butyrate (BB) derived from bio-renewable resources is the most promising jet fuel blend. This review highlights essential properties of jet fuel, including calorific value, kinematic viscosity, freezing point, flash point, auto-ignition temperature, and density to compare with different bio-renewable chemicals, which are compatible to be blended with the jet fuel. A detailed discussion follows on the importance of intermediate formation, reaction mechanism, and catalyst properties that are critical towards the production of bio-renewable resource-derived BB. BB is primarily produced via the esterification of butyric acid (BA) in butanol (BuOH) with or without using a catalyst. The corresponding reactions are carried out in both homogeneous and heterogeneous phases, provided it has acidic properties. Thus, a wide range of acidic catalysts such as [HSO 3 -pmim] HSO 4 ionic liquids, heteropolyacid, methanesulfonic acid, Dowex 50 Wx8-400 resins, and sulfonated char causes up to 98%, 97.9%, 93.2%, 95.3%, and 90% of BB yield, respectively are critically reviewed. Moreover, reaction mechanism, product, and by-product formation that primarily dictate the BB yield and selectivity have been comprehensively reviewed. The widespread use of methyl parathion (MP) and carbendazim (CBZ) as pesticide molecules for controlling pests and protect crops has added pollution issues; excess usage of these can lead to atmospheric pollution through contaminating water and soil sources. In the present study, detection of these compounds at the trace level was achieved by employing graphene oxide (GO) and graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) nanohybrid electrode assembly (GO/g-C 3 N 4 /GCE). The X-ray diffraction (XRD), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) techniques were also used to characterize the materials developed to reveal their purity, crystal structure, and morphology. The complete voltammetric behavior of these analytes was investigated using cyclic voltammetic (CV) and square wave voltammetry (SWV) techniques. The influence of pH was studied and it was noticed that electrochemical response was the highest at pH 7.0 for MP and at pH 4.2 for CBZ. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations could help us to understand the adsorption behavior of MP and CBZ onto the GO and g-C 3 N 4 before their degradation due to the electrochemical reactions. SWV technique was helpful in the trace level detection of MP and CBZ. Linearity plots were obtained in the range of concentration from 8.0 × 10 -8  M to 1.0 × 10 -4  M with a limit of detection 0.824 nM for MP and 1.0 × 10 -8  M to 2.5 × 10 -4  M for CBZ with the detection limit of 2.82 nM. Diabetes mellitus is a physiological and metabolic disorder affecting millions of people worldwide, associated with global morbidity, mortality, and financial expenses. Long-term complications can be avoided by frequent, continuous self-monitoring of blood glucose. Therefore, this review summarizes the current state-of-art glycemic control regimes involving measurement approaches and basic concepts. Following an introduction to the significance of continuous glucose sensing, we have tracked the evolution of glucose monitoring devices from minimally invasive to non-invasive methods to present an overview of the spectrum of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) technologies. The conveniences, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness of the real-time CGM systems (rt-CGMs) are the factors considered for discussion. Transdermal biosensing and drug delivery routes have recently emerged as an innovative approach to substitute hypodermal needles. This work reviews skin-patchable glucose monitoring sensors for the first time, providing specifics of all the major findings in the past 6 years. Skin patch sensors and their progressive form, i.e., microneedle (MN) array sensory and delivery systems, are elaborated, covering self-powered, enzymatic, and non-enzymatic devices. The critical aspects reviewed are material design and assembly techniques focusing on flexibility, sensitivity, selectivity, biocompatibility, and user-end comfort. The review highlights the advantages of patchable MNs' multi-sensor technology designed to maintain precise blood glucose levels and administer diabetes drugs or insulin through a "sense and act" feedback loop. Subsequently, the limitations and potential challenges encountered from the MN array as rt-CGMs are listed. Furthermore, the current statuses of working prototype glucose-responsive "closed-loop" insulin delivery systems are discussed. Finally, the expected future developments and outlooks in clinical applications are discussed.

In agro-areas, linuron (LNR) and amino-triazole (ATZ) are the widely used herbicides to protect crops, but their widespread use pollutes the environment, especially when these are mixed with water or soil. In efforts to address these environmental issues and to detect trace quantities of the herbicides, a graphitic carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4 ) with cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) modified carbon paste electrode (g-C 3 N 4 -CTAB/CPE) was developed and used for the detection of LNR and ATZ. Materials were characterized by XRD, TEM and AFM techniques. The effect of pH on electro-oxidation (under optimized conditions) showed the maximum peak current at pH of 4.2 for AMT and pH 6.0 for LNR. The electro-kinetic and thermodynamic parameters of LNR and ATZ were determined. Additional experiments were performed for the trace level detection of ATZ and LNR using the square wave voltammetric technique. Concentrations were varied linearly in the range of 3.0 × 10 -7  M to 4.5 × 10 -5  M for ATZ with a detection limit of 6.41 × 10 -8  M, and 1.2 × 10 -7  M to 3.0 × 10 -4  M for LNR with a detection limit of 2.47 × 10 -8  M. Coronavirus (COVID-19), a deadly pandemic has spread worldwide and created many global health issues. Though methods of its detection are being continuously developed for the early detection and monitoring of COVID-19, still there is need for more novel methods. The presently used methods include rapid antigen tests, serological surveys, reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), artificial intelligence-based techniques, and assays based on sensors/biosensors. Of all these, RT-PCR test has high sensitivity and specificity though it requires more time for testing and need for skilled technicians. Recently, electrochemical sensors have been developed for rapid monitoring and detection of SARS-CoV-2 from the patient's biological fluid samples. This review covers the recently developed electrochemical sensors that are focused on the detection of viral nucleic acid, immunoglobulin, antigen, and the entire viral particles. In addition, we also compare and assess their detection limits, sensitivities and specificities for the identification and monitoring of COVID-19. The production of hydrogen, its separation, and storage for use as a primary source of energy is an important component of the green energy economy of the world. Hydrogen is a potential non-carbon-based energy source, which is gradually replacing the dependency on fossil fuels. It is anticipated that as the alternative fuel since hydrogen can be produced from green and clean sources. The evolution of hydrogen from renewable and non-renewable sources by various technologies has now gained tremendous research and industrial interest. The most appropriate methods for hydrogen generation involve the direct conversion of solar energy, exploitation of solar and wind energy for the electrolysis of water, besides conversion of fuel and biomass. To produce cleaner hydrogen and its separation from the chemical impurities is crucial and several methods including photobiological, photoelectrochemical, electrochemical, photocatalytic, thermochemical, thermolysis, and steam gasification have been used. The diverse types of membranes along with the pressure gas swing adsorption technique is another technique used to separate hydrogen, but the storage of hydrogen in an inexpensive, safe, compact, and environmentally friendly manner is one of the major concerns contributing to the country's economy. Apart from the countless advantages, storage and handling of hydrogen is a serious concern. Owing to its high inflammability, enough safety measures should be adopted during its production and storage as a fuel. The electrochemical performance of linuron (LNR) was studied by fabricating the carbon paste electrode (CPE) using multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) along with zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles (MWCNTs/ZnO/CPE). The influence of electro-kinetic specifications involving steady heterogeneous rate, pH, sweep rate, temperature effect, transfer coefficient, accumulation time, activation energy, as well as the total number of protons and electrons participating in electro-oxidation of LNR has been established using voltammetric techniques like cyclic voltammetry (CV) and square wave voltammetry (SWV). These techniques were applied to investigate LNR in real samples such as soil including water samples. Over the 0.02 μM-0.34 μM ranges, a linear relationship was confirmed along with the limit of detection and quantification (LOD and LOQ) of the LNR. In recent times, the synthesis of metal nanoparticles (NPs) using plant extracts has recently emerged as an intriguing issue in the field of nanoscience and nanobiotechnology, with numerous advantages over conventional physicochemical approaches. In the current study, ZnO NPs were synthesized from Synadium grantii leaf extricate with varying Cu-dopant concentrations. In order to the synthesis of the pure and Cu-doped ZnO NPs, zinc nitrate hexahydrate and copper nitrate trihydrate were used as a precursor in leaf extracts of the plant. XRD, TEM, FTIR, XPS, and PL measurements were carried out to examine the physical and optical properties of the synthesized samples. The photocatalytic studies of the prepared samples were studied using Methylene blue (MB), Indigo Carmine (IC), and Rhodamine B (RhB) organic pollutants. The wurtzite crystal structure of synthesized samples was confirmed by XRD and TEM analysis. Further, the presence of functional groups in the prepared samples was confirmed by FTIR analysis. XPS analysis confirmed that the binding energies of a host material and dopant ions. The emission peaks identified at 424, 446 and 573 nm are associated with the electron movement from the deep donor level, zinc interstitial to the zinc vacancy and oxygen vacancy. 3% and 5% Cu-doped samples exhibited superior photocatalytic activity for MB, IC, and RhB dyes. The green synthesized ZnO NPs showed enriched photocatalytic performance, signifying that bio-synthesis can be an outstanding approach to develop versatile and environmental products., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. Lignocellulosic biomass is an effective and sustainable alternative for petroleum-derived fuels and chemicals to produce biofuels and bio-based products. Despite the high availability, the degradation of biomass is a substantial challenge. Hence, it is necessary to integrate several unit processes such as biochemical, thermochemical, physical, and catalytic conversion to produce wide range of bio-based products. Integrating these processes enhances the yield, reduces the reaction time, and can be cost-effective. Process integration could significantly lead to various outcomes which guides towards the circular economy. This review addresses integration of several biorefinery processes for the production of multifaceted products. Fabrication of novel metal oxide nanostructured composites is a proficient approach to develop efficient energy storage devices and development of cost-free and eco-friendly metal oxide nanostructures for supercapacitor applications received considerable attention in recent years. The Co 3 O 4 nanocubes-NiO octahedral structured composite was constructed using facile and one-step calcination process. Cyclic voltammetry, charge-discharge, and electrochemical impedance spectral techniques have been employed to analyze the specific capacitance of the synthesized nanostructures and the composites. Specific capacitance and cycling stability of the composites were evaluated with the pristine Co 3 O 4 and NiO nanostructures. The composite showed a specific capacitance of 832 F g -1 at a current density of 0.25 A g -1 , which was ~1.5 and ~1.9-times higher than pristine Co 3 O 4 nanocubes and NiO octahedral structure, respectively. On the other hand, electrode showed approximately 50 % capacity retention at a higher current density (5 Ag -1 ) because of the uniform morphology of Co 3 O 4 and NiO. The charge-discharge stability measurements of the composite showed an admirable specific capacitance retention capability, which was 94.5 % after 2000 continuous charge-discharge cycles at a current density of 5 A g -1 . The superior electrochemical performance of the nano-composite was ascribed to synergistic effects and uniform morphology. Microplastics (MPs) and nanoplastics (NPs) have gained much attention in recent years because of their ubiquitous presence, which is the widely acknowledged threat to the environment. MPs can be <5 mm size, while NPs are <100 nm, and both can be detected in various forms and shapes in the environment to alleviate their harmful effects on aquatic species, soil organisms, birds, and humans. In efforts to address these issues, the present review discusses about sampling methods for water, sediments, and biota along with their merits and demerits. Various identification techniques such as FTIR, Raman, ToF-SIMS, MALDI TOF MS, and ICP-MS are critically discussed. Virus-induced infection such as SARS-CoV-2 is a serious threat to human health and the economic setback of the world. Continued advances in the development of technologies are required before the viruses undergo mutation. The low concentration of viruses in environmental samples makes the detection extremely challenging; simple, accurate and rapid detection methods are in urgent need. Of all the analytical techniques, electrochemical methods have the established capabilities to address the issues. Particularly, the integration of nanotechnology would allow miniature devices to be made available at the point-of-care. This review outlines the capabilities of electrochemical methods in conjunction with nanotechnology for the detection of SARS-CoV-2. Metal chalcogenides play a vital role in the conversion of solar energy into hydrogen fuel. Hydrogen fuel technology can possibly tackle the future energy crises by replacing carbon fuels such as petroleum, diesel and kerosene, owning to zero emission carbon-free gas and eco-friendliness. Metal chalcogenides are classified into narrow band gap (CdS, Cu 2 S, Bi 2 S 3, MoS 2, CdSe and MoSe 2 ) materials and wide band gap materials (ZnS, ZnSe and ZnTe). Composites of these materials are fabricated with different architectures in which core-shell is one of the unique composites that drastically improve the photo-excitons separation, where chalcogenides in the core can be well protected for sustainable uses. Thus,the core-shell structures promote the design and fabrication of composites with the required characteristics. Interestingly, the metal chalcogenides as a core-shell photocatalyst can be classified into type-I, reverse type-I, type-II and S-type nanocomposites, which can effectively influence and significantly enhance the rate of hydrogen production. Cholinesterase enzymes such as acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) cause hydrolysis of acetylcholine (ACh), a neurotransmitter responsible for the cognitive functions of the brain such as acquiring knowledge and comprehension. Therefore, inhibition of these enzymes is an effective process to curb the progressive and fatal neurological Alzheimer's disease (AD). Herein, we explored the potential inhibitory activities of various pyridine, quinoxaline, and triazine derivatives (3a-k, 6a-j and 11a-h) against AChE and BuChE enzymes by following the modified Ellman's method. Further, anti-oxidant property of these libraries was monitored using DPPH (2,2'-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazylhydrate) radical scavenging analysis. From the studies, we identified that compounds 6e, 6f, 11b and 11f behaved as selective AChE inhibitors with IC 50 values ranging from 7.23 to 10.35 μM. Further studies revealed good anti-oxidant activity by these compounds with IC 50 values in the range of 14.80-27.22 μM. The kinetic studies of the active analogues demonstrated mixed-type of inhibition due to their interaction with both the catalytic active sites (CAS) and peripheral anionic sites (PAS) of the AChE. Additionally, molecular simulation in association with fluorescence and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopic analyses explained strong affinities of inhibitors to bind with AChE enzyme at the physiological pH of 7.2. Binding constant values of 5.4 × 10 4 , 4.3 × 10 4 , 3.2 × 10 4 and 4.9 × 10 4  M -1 corresponding to free energy changes -5.593, -6.799, -6.605 and -8.104 KcalM -1 were obtained at 25 °C from fluorescence emission spectroscopic studies of 6e, 6f, 11b and 11f, respectively. Besides, CD spectroscopy deliberately explained the secondary structure of AChE partly unfolded upon binding with these dynamic molecules. Design and development of the efficient and durable photocatalyst that generates H 2 fuel utilizing industrial wastewater under solar light irradiation is a sustainable process. Innumerable photocatalysts have been reported for efficient H 2 production, but their large-scale production with the same efficiency of H 2 production is a challenging task. In this study, a few gram-scale syntheses of ZnS wrapped with NiO hierarchical core-shell nanostructure via the surfactant-mediated process has been reported. Morphology and crystal structure analysis of ZnS/NiO showed spherical shaped hierarchical core-shell with cubic and face-centered cubic crystal structures. The surface examination confirmed the presence of Zn 2+ , S 2- , Ni 2+ and O 2- ions in the nanocomposite. The photocurrent and photoluminescence studies of pristine and nanocomposites revealed that core-shell material is non-corrosive with a prolonged life-time of photo-excitons. Parametric studies on photocatalytic H 2 generation in lab-scale photoreactor using crude glycerol in water recorded a high rate of H 2 generation of 9.3 mmol h -1 .g -1 of catalyst under the simulated solar light irradiation. Optimized reaction parameters are extended to a demonstrative photoreactor containing aqueous crude glycerol produced 18.5 mmol h -1 of H 2 generation under the natural solar light irradiation. The same nanostructures were further tested with the simulated sulfide wastewater and the optimized catalyst showed H 2 production of 350 mL h -1 . The recent outbreak of COVID-19 has created much inconvenience and fear that the virus can seriously affect humans, causing health hazards and death. This pandemic has created much worry and as per the report by World Health Organization (WHO), more than 43 million individuals in 215 countries and territories were affected. People around the world are still struggling to overcome the problems associated with this pandemic. Of all the available methods, reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) has been widely practiced for the pandemic detection even though several diagnostic tools are available having varying accuracy and sensitivity. The method offers many advantages making it a life-saving tool, but the method has the limitation of transporting to the nearest pathology lab, thus limiting its application in resource limited settings. Silver nanoparticles doped with FCNT-TiO 2 heterogeneous catalyst was prepared via one-step chemical reduction process and their efficacy was tested for hydrogen production under solar simulator. Crystallinity, purity, optical properties, and morphologies of the catalysts were examined by X-Ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, UV-Visible diffuse reflectance spectra, and Transmission Electron Microscopy. The chemical states and interface interactions were studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The optimized catalyst showed 19.2 mmol g -1 h -1 of hydrogen production, which is 28.5 and 7 times higher than the pristine TiO 2 nanoparticles and FCNT-TiO 2 nanocomposite, respectively. The optimized catalyst showed stability up to 50 h under the solar simulator irradiation. The natural solar light irradiated catalyst showed ~2.2 times higher hydrogen production rate than the solar simulator irradiation. A plausible reaction mechanism of Ag NPs/FCNT-TiO 2 photocatalyst was elucidated by investigating the beneficial co-catalytic role of Ag NPs and FCNTs for enhanced hydrogen production., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Ltd. The availability of organic matters in vast quantities from the agricultural/industrial practices has long been a significant environmental challenge. These wastes have created global issues in increasing the levels of BOD or COD in water as well as in soil or air segments. Such wastes can be converted into bioenergy using a specific conversion platform in conjunction with the appropriate utilization of the methods such as anaerobic digestion, secondary waste treatment, or efficient hydrolytic breakdown as these can promote bioenergy production to mitigate the environmental issues. By the proper utilization of waste organics and by adopting innovative approaches, one can develop bioenergy processes to meet the energy needs of the society. Waste organic matters from plant origins or other agro-sources, biopolymers, or complex organic matters (cellulose, hemicelluloses, non-consumable starches or proteins) can be used as cheap raw carbon resources to produce biofuels or biogases to fulfill the ever increasing energy demands. Attempts have been made for bioenergy production by biosynthesizing, methanol, n-butanol, ethanol, algal biodiesel, and biohydrogen using different types of organic matters via biotechnological/chemical routes to meet the world's energy need by producing least amount of toxic gases (reduction up to 20-70% in concentration) in order to promote sustainable green environmental growth. This review emphasizes on the nature of available wastes, different strategies for its breakdown or hydrolysis, efficient microbial systems. Some representative examples of biomasses source that are used for bioenergy production by providing critical information are discussed. Furthermore, bioenergy production from the plant-based organic matters and environmental issues are also discussed. Microplastics (MPs) with sizes < 5 mm are found in various compositions, shapes, morphologies, and textures that are the major sources of environmental pollution. The fraction of MPs in total weight of plastic accumulation around the world is predicted to be 13.2% by 2060. These micron-sized MPs are hazardous to marine species, birds, animals, soil creatures and humans due to their occurrence in air, water, soil, indoor dust and food items. The present review covers discussions on the damaging effects of MPs on the environment and their removal techniques including biodegradation, adsorption, catalytic, photocatalytic degradation, coagulation, filtration and electro-coagulation. The main techniques used to analyze the structural and surface changes such as cracks, holes and erosion post the degradation processes are FTIR and SEM analysis. In addition, reduction in plastic molecular weight by the microbes implies disintegration of MPs. Adsorptive removal by the magnetic adsorbent promises complete elimination while the biodegradable catalysts could remove 70-100% of MPs. Catalytic degradation via advanced oxidation assisted by S O 4 • - or O H • radicals generated by peroxymonosulfate or sodium sulfate are also adequately covered in addition to photocatalysis. The chemical methods such as sol-gel, agglomeration, and coagulation in conjunction with other physical methods are discussed concerning the drinking water/wastewater/sludge treatments. Heterostructured nanohybrids were prepared from sodium bismuth sulfide (NaBiS 2 ) and zinc oxide (ZnO) through hydrothermal process. The nanocomposite was used for tetracycline (TC) degradation as well as photoelectrochemical (PEC) water oxidation. Morphology and structural analyses were performed to confirm the dispersion of ultra-small ZnO nanosheets into the NaBiS 2 nanoribbons. By tuning the band gap, it was possible to degrade tetracycline toxic pollutant within 90 min under the simulated solar light irradiation, while PEC suggested a lower charge-transfer resistance, high photocurrent response, and exceptionally good stability. The highest photocurrent density of 0.751 mAcm -2 vs. Ag/AgCl in 0.1 M Na 2 SO 3 solution was observed under solar-light illumination. Ongoing pandemic coronavirus (COVID-19) has affected over 218 countries and infected 88,512,243 and 1,906,853 deaths reported by Jan. 8, 2021. At present, vaccines are being developed in Europe, Russia, USA, and China, although some of these are in phase III of trials, which are waiting to be available for the general public. The only option available now is by vigorous testing, isolation of the infected cases, and maintaining physical and social distances. Numerous methods are now available or being developed for testing the suspected cases, which may act as carriers of the virus. In this review, efforts have been made to discuss the conventional as well as fast, rapid, and efficient testing methods developed for the diagnosis of 2019-nCoV.Testing methods can be based on the sensing of targets, which include RNA, spike proteins and antibodies such as IgG and IgM. Apart from the development of RNA targeted PCR, antibody and VSV pseudovirus neutralization assay along with several other diagnostic techniques have been developed.
