We study universal clusters in quasi-two dimensions (q2D) that consist of a light (L) atom interacting with two or three heavy (H) identical fermions, forming the trimer or tetramer bound state. The axial confinement in q2D is shown to lift the three-fold degeneracy of 3D trimer (tetramer) in $p$-wave channel and uniquely select the ground state with magnetic angular momentum $|m|=1$ ($m=0$). By varying the interaction or confinement strength, we explore the dimensional crossover of these clusters from 3D to 2D, characterized by a gradual change of critical H-L mass ratio for their emergence and momentum-space distribution. Importantly, we find that a finite effective range will {\it not} alter their critical mass ratios in the weak coupling regime. There, we establish an effective 2D model to quantitatively reproduce the properties of q2D clusters, and further identify the optimal interaction strengths for their detections in experiments. We discuss standard and tighter upper bounds on the critical temperature $T_c$ of two-dimensional (2D) superconductors and superfluids versus particle density $n$ or filling factor $\nu$ for continuum and lattice systems from the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) to Bose regime. We discuss only one-band Hamiltonians, where the transition from the normal to superconducting (superfluid) phase is governed by Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless (BKT) mechanism of vortex-antivortex binding, such that a direct relation between the superfluid density tensor and $T_c$ exists. We demonstrate that it is imperative to consider at least the full effect of phase fluctuations of order parameter for superconductivity (superfluidity) to establish tighter bounds. Using the renormalization group, we obtain phase-fluctuation critical temperature $T_c^{\theta}$, a much tighter upper bound to critical temperature supremum $T_c^{\rm sup}$ than standard critical temperature upper bound $T_c^{\rm up1}$ from Ferrell-Glover-Tinkham sum rule. We go beyond textbook phase-fluctuation theories and show that chemical potential renormalization, order parameter equation, and Nelson-Kosterlitz relation need to be solved self-consistently and simultaneously with renormalization group flow equation to produce $T_c^{\theta}$ over the entire BCS-Bose crossover. We note that an analytic theory including modulus fluctuations of the order parameter valid throughout the BCS-Bose evolution is still lacking, but the inclusion of modulus fluctuations can only produce a critical temperature lower than $T_c^{\theta}$ and thus produce an even tighter bound to $T_c^{\rm sup}$. We conclude by indicating that if the measured critical temperature exceeds $T_c^{\theta}$ in experiments involving 2D single-band systems, then a non-BKT mechanism must be invoked to describe the superconducting (superfluid) transition., Comment: 12 pages, 5 figures, a long version of the short paper listed on arXiv:2203.05478

Afterpulsing noise in InGaAs/InP single photon avalanche photodiodes (APDs) is caused by carrier trapping and can be suppressed successfully through limiting the avalanche charge via sub-nanosecond gating. Detection of faint avalanches requires an electronic circuit that is able to effectively remove the gate-induced capacitive response while keeping photon signals intact. Here we demonstrate a novel ultra-narrowband interference circuit (UNIC) that can reject the capacitive response by up to 80 dB per stage with little distortion to avalanche signals. Cascading two UNIC's in a readout circuit, we were able to enable high count rate of up to 700 MC/s and low afterpulsing of 0.5 % at a detection efficiency of 25.3 % for 1.25 GHz sinusoidally gated InGaAs/InP APDs. At -30 degree C, we measured 1 % afterpulsing at a detection efficiency of 21.2 %.

We study the crossover from the Bardeen-Cooper-Shrieffer (BCS) regime to the Bose-Einstein-condensation (BEC) regime in a quasi-two-dimensional quantum gas of ultracold fermionic atoms. Using an effective two-dimensional Hamiltonian with renormalized interactions between atoms and dressed molecules within a Gaussian pair fluctuation theory, we investigate how Fermi superfluidity is affected by reduced dimensionality at zero temperature in a wide range of crossover. We observe that the order parameter and pair size show universal relations with the chemical potential on the BCS side, irrespective of dimensionality. However, such universal dependences break down towards the BEC limit with increasing interaction strength. This results reveal the notable effect of reduced dimenionality on pairing physics, which can also be observed in the sound velocity and convexity parameter of the Goldstone mode. We compare our results with the latest experiments in both ${}^{6}$Li atomic gases and layered nitrides LixZrNCl and find good agreements., Comment: 11 pages, 7 fugures

Exploring quantum phenomena beyond predictions of any classical model has fundamental importance to understand the boundary of classical and quantum descriptions of nature. As a typical property that a quantum system behaves distinctively from a classical counterpart, contextuality has been studied extensively and verified experimentally in systems composed of at least three levels (qutrit). Here we extend the scope of experimental test of contextuality to a minimal quantum system of only two states (qubit) by implementing the minimum error state discrimination on a single $^{171}$Yb$^+$ ion. We observe a substantial violation of a no-go inequality derived by assuming non-contextuality, and firmly conclude that the measured results of state discrimination cannot be reconciled with any non-contextual description. We discuss the evolution from BCS to Bose superconductivity versus carrier density in gated two-dimensional s-wave superconductors. We show that the transition from the normal to the superconducting state is controlled by the Berezinskii-Kosterlitz-Thouless vortex-antivortex pairing mechanism, and that the evolution from high carrier density (BCS pairing) to low carrier density (Bose pairing) is just a crossover in s-wave systems. We compare our results to recent experiments on the superconductor LixZrNCl, a lithium intercalated layered nitride, and obtain very good quantitative agreement at low and intermediate densities., Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures

Anion exchange offers great flexibility and high precision in phase control, compositional engineering and optoelectronic property tuning. Different from previous successful anion exchange process in liquid solution, herein, we develop a vapor-phase anion-exchange strategy to realize the precise phase and bandgap control of large-scale inorganic perovskites by using gas injection cycle, produing some perovskites such as CsPbCl3 which has never been reported in thin film morphology. Ab-initio calculations also provide the insightful mechanism to understand the impact of anion exchange on tuning the electronic properties and optimizing the structural stability. Furthermore, because of precise control of specific atomic concentrations, intriguing tunable photoluminsecence is observed and photodetectors with tunable photoresponse edge from green to ultraviolet light can be realized accurately with an ultrahigh spectral resolution of 1 nm. A discrete subset $S$ of a topological gyrogroup $G$ with the identity $0$ is said to be a {\it suitable set} for $G$ if it generates a dense subgyrogroup of $G$ and $S\cup \{0\}$ is closed in $G$. In this paper, it was proved that each countable Hausdorff topological gyrogroup has a suitable set; moreover, it is shown that each separable metrizable strongly topological gyrogroup has a suitable set., Comment: 13

A paratopological group $G$ has a {\it suitable set} $S$. The latter means that $S$ is a discrete subspace of $G$, $S\cup \{e\}$ is closed, and the subgroup $\langle S\rangle$ of $G$ generated by $S$ is dense in $G$. Suitable sets in topological groups were studied by many authors. The aim of the present paper is to provide a start-up for a general investigation of suitable sets for paratopological groups, looking to what extent we can (by proving propositions) or cannot (by constructing examples) generalize to paratopological groups results which hold for topological groups, and to pose a few challenging questions for possible future research. We shall discuss when paratopological groups of different classes have suitable sets. Namely, we consider paratopological groups (in particular, countable) satisfying different separation axioms, paratopological groups which are compact-like spaces, and saturated (in particular, precompact) paratopological groups. Also we consider the permanence of a property of a group to have a suitable set with respect to (open or dense) subgroups, products and extensions., Comment: 14 pages
