This study was designed to develop a novel culture method for the efficient proliferation of canine peripheral blood lymphocytes (cPBL) for adoptive immunotherapy. When cPBL were cultured in the presence of concanavalin A (Con A), proliferation of cPBL was induced and expression of interleukin-2 receptor (IL-2R) which enables to respond to exogenously added IL-2 was upregulated. And then, when cPBL were cultured with recombinant human interleukin-2 (rhIL-2) in addition to Con A, proliferation was accelerated and increased to about 10-fold after 1 week. The phenotypic analysis showed that the main population of the cultured cPBL was consisted of CD8+ positive lymphocytes. Among them, CD4+CD8+ double positive (DP) lymphocytes had significantly increased, and the ratio of CD4+ single positive (SP) lymphocytes to CD8+ SP lymphocytes (CD4+SP/CD8+SP) was decreased as compared to before culturing. To evaluate the cytotoxic activity of cPBL cultured with Con A and rhIL-2, furthermore, cytotoxic assay was carried out against xenogeneic melanoma cell line (MeWo), which resulted in MHC-unrestricted cytokilling. These results suggest that the culture method of cPBL by the use of Con A and rhIL-2 may be useful for generating lymphokine activated killer cells, and also this may be beneficial for adoptive immunotherapy of tumor-bearing dogs.

A new robot hand for cloth handling has been developed. This robot hand has a function of sensing and functions of separations, transferring and placing cloth on any position in 3 dimensions. The hardware of the hand is simple in spite of its multiple functions.

PCT characterristics and the electrode performance on laves phase Zr-Mn alloy were studied. The effects of substitution of Zr by Ti and of Mn by Ni were investigated. The influence of the compositional deviation from the stoichiometry were also studied. The electrode test was performed in the electrolyte flood open type cell. The Zr1-yTiyNixMn1. 8-x V0. 2 alloy showed its maximum capacity of 390 mAh/g when x=1.2 and y=0.2. This is due to the improvement of the homogeneity and activity of alloys. The high rate capacity increase with the decrease of B/A ratio. The probable reason is that the mechanical strength of the alloy decreases as B/A ratio decreases. Thus the specific surface area increases more rapidly by the self-break-down of the alloy powder during charge/discharge cycles. For B site rich alloys, the metallographical homogeneity are improved while hydrogen equilibrium pressure increases.

In order to modernize patterning works of figured cloth by jacquard loom, a prototype of DDC weaving system for figured cloth has been developed. The system is consisted of the following equipments.1. Pattern Analyser, 2 . Paper Tape Reader 3 . Mini Computer, 4 . Actuator for Selecting Needles of a Jacquard Machine, 5 . Jacquard LoomThe signal processing and weaving in the system are performed as follows : (1) Colors and patterns in a sketch design are recognized by the pattern analyser, conver-ted into color pattern signal at run length and then punched out on a paper tape.(2) On weaving, color pattern signals read out from the sketch design are read into a mini computer and are converted into pattern weavingsignals, corresponding to on-off bit pattern of the pattern card, by a stored program.(3) The signals are sent to the actuators by a request signal from the jacquard loom and needles of a jacquard machine are selected by the signal synchronously with cycle of the loom motion.Thus, a figured cloth is automatically woven according to a sketch design. Since highly skil-lful craftmen's techniques for production of pattern cards can be stored as a program, it is easy to weave a highly complicated figured cloth only by changing a color pattern tape andby resetting a design of fabric. The performance of the prototype shows that it seems possible to realize labor-saving and speed-up of the patterning work of jacquard weaving process requiring many workers.

The dual carding system discussed here consists of two feeding zones and two carding zones around a cylinder. Feed the same type of fiber in equal quantities through the two feeding zones. Fix the diameter, r.p.m., settings and metallic wire of the taker-in rollers, workers and doffers in both carding zones under the same conditions. In this case, the ratio of blending, in the slivers, of fibers fed through the two feeding zones are obtainable as follows:q01/Q01:q02'/Q01=k:k' (1-k)where Q01: Weight (g/cm) of slivers delivered through doffer (do1) on which fibers are fed through the two feeding zones fe1 and fe2. Q10: Weight (g/cm) of sliver delivered through doffer (do1) on which fibers are fed through the feeding zone fe1. q02': Weight (g cm) of sliver delivered through doffer (do1) on which fibers are fed through the feeding zone fe2. k: Ratio of transfer from cylinder to doffer (do1) of the fibers fed through feeding zone fe1. k': Ratio of transfer from cylinder to doffer (do1) of the fibers fed through feeding zone fe2.The blending ratio obtained experimentally, about 6:4, is explained by a difference in quantity between the fibers fed through the two feeding zones and differences in opening conditions at the point where fibers transfer from the cylinder to the doffer. The author believes that opening by the workers has to be improved to make the blending ratio 5:5 or bring it close to this figure.

New antibiotics phoslactomycins A, B, C, D, E and F, which contain alpha, beta-unsaturated delta-lactone, phosphate ester, conjugated diene and cyclohexane ring moieties, were isolated from the culture broth of a soil isolate actinomycete. Morphological, cultural and physiological studies revealed that the isolate is a strain of Streptomyces nigrescens. Phoslactomycins were obtained by butanol extraction, gel filtration and reverse phase chromatography. The antibiotics show strong activity against various fungi, particularly phytopathogenic fungi (Botrytis cinerea and Alternaria kikuchiana).

Homoalanosine having a herbicidal activity was isolated from the culture filtrate of a soil isolate SC-1688 which was classified as Streptomyces galilaeus. The chemical structure of homoalanosine was determined to be L-2-amino-4-nitrosohydroxyaminobutyric acid by analyses of spectral and biological data. The antibiotic has high herbicidal activity at low concentrations against especially common cocklebur and ladysthumb among the tested weeds and crops. Foliar application of this antibiotic inhibited the growth of roots and buds. This result indicated that homoalanosine had a systemic herbicidal activity.
