A new diagnosis method for high energy ions utilizing a single CR-39 detector mounted on plastic plates is demonstrated to identify the presence of the high energy component beyond the CR-39's detection threshold limit. On irradiation of the CR-39 detector unit with a 25 MeV per nucleon He ion beam from conventional rf-accelerators, a large number of etch pits having elliptical opening shapes are observed on the rear surface of the CR-39. Detailed investigations reveal that these etch pits are created by heavy ions inelastically backscattered from the plastic plates. This ion detection method is applied to laser-driven ion acceleration experiments using cluster-gas targets, and ion signals with energies up to 50 MeV per nucleon are identified.

When the mass difference between the lightest slepton and the lightest neutralino is smaller than the tau mass, the lifetime of the lightest slepton in the constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) increases in many orders of magnitude with respect to typical lifetimes of other supersymmetric particles. In a general MSSM, the lifetime of the lightest slepton is inversely proportional to the square of the intergenerational mixing in the slepton mass matrices. Such a long-lived slepton would produce a distinctive signature at LHC and a measurement of its lifetime would be relatively simple. Therefore, the long-lived slepton scenario offers an excellent opportunity to study lepton flavour violation at ATLAS and CMS detectors in the LHC and an improvement of the leptonic mass insertion bounds by more than five orders of magnitude would be possible., Comment: 10 pages, 2 figures, 2 tables. Coherent interaction of solar neutrino with the moon and its implication are investigated. We solve the Dirac equation with the moon potential and show that a phase shift of the neutrino wave function becomes almost one unit if the neutrino penetrates the moon. Spatial interference is generated for the neutrino wave packets during eclipse and possibility of observing interference effect that is similar to that of a double slit experiment is pointed out., Comment: 7 pages, no figures

We analyze oscillations of intermediate neutrinos in terms of the scattering of particles described by Gaussian wave packets. We study a scalar model as in a previous paper (I) but in realistic situations, where the two particles of the initial state and final state are wave packets and neutrinos are in the intermediate state. The oscillation of the intermediate neutrino is found from the time evolution of the total transition probability between the initial state and final state. The effect of a finite lifetime and a finite relaxation time are also studied. We find that the oscillation pattern depends on the magnitude of wave packet sizes of particles in the initial state and final state and the lifetime of the initial particle. For $\Delta m^2_{21}=3\times 10^{-2}$ eV$^2$, the oscillation probability deviates from that of the standard formula if the wave packet sizes are around $10^{-13}$ m for 0.4 MeV neutrino., Comment: 29 pages, 11 figures. typos corrected, appendix added

We propose a quantum version of a gedanken experiment which supports the generalized second law of black hole thermodynamics. A quantum measurement of particles in the region outside of the event horizon decreases the entropy of the outside matter due to the entanglement of the inside and outside particle states. This decrease is compensated, however, by the increase in the detector entropy. If the detector is conditionally dropped into the black hole depending on the experimental outcome, the decrease of the matter entropy is more than compensated by the increase of the black hole entropy via the increase of the black hole mass which is ultimately attributed to the work done by the measurement., Comment: 5 pages, RevTex, submitted to PRL

We investigate whether the generalized second law is valid, using two dimensional black hole spacetime, irrespective of models. A time derivative form of the generalized second law is formulated and it is shown that the law might become invalid.
