Background: Economic deprivation is expected to influence cancer mortality due to its impact on screening and treatment options, as well as healthy lifestyle. However, the relationship between insurance type, premiums, and mortality rates remains unclear. This study investigated the relationship between insurance type and mortality in patients with newly diagnosed cancer using data from the Korean National Health Insurance Database. Methods: this retrospective cohort study included 111,941 cancer patients diagnosed between 1 January 2007 and 31 December 2008, with a median follow-up period of 13.41 years. The insurance types were categorized as regional and workplace subscribers and income-based insurance premiums were divided into tertiles (T1, T2, and T3). Results: Cox proportional hazards regression analysis adjusted for age, lifestyle factors, health metrics, and comorbidities showed workplace subscribers (n = 76,944) had a lower all-cause mortality hazard ratio (HR) (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.940 [0.919–0.961]) compared to regional subscribers (n = 34,997). Higher income tertiles (T2, T3) were associated with lower mortality compared to the T1 group, notably in male regional and workplace subscribers, and female regional subscribers. Conclusion: The study identified that insurance types and premiums significantly influence mortality in cancer patients, highlighting the necessity for individualized insurance policies for cancer patients. (1) Background: This study evaluated the clinical implications of a new measurement technique for muscle mass using discrete multi-wavelength near-infrared spectroscopy (DMW-NIRS) compared with multifrequency bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) in older adults. (2) Methods: In a cross-sectional study involving 91 participants aged 65 years, the agreement of total lean mass for each measurement was assessed using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Pearson's correlation analysis. The study was conducted at a university hospital from 10 July 2023 to 1 November 2023. (3) Results: A total of 45 men (mean age, 74.1) and 46 women (mean age, 73.6) were analyzed. In the comparisons of total lean mass between DMW-NIRS and BIA, ICC (2.1) was 0.943 and Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.949 (p < 0.001). Across all segments of lean mass, we found excellent agreement with the ICCs (>0.90) and acceptable values of the correlation coefficients (>0.6) between DMW-NIRS and BIA. (4) Conclusions: This study confirmed agreement in the measurements of muscle mass between portable devices using DMW-NIRS and BIA among community-dwelling older adults. Image analysis-based artificial intelligence (AI) models leveraging convolutional neural networks (CNN) take a significant role in evaluating the ripeness of strawberry, contributing to the maximization of productivity. However, the convolution, which constitutes the majority of the CNN models, imposes significant computational burdens. Additionally, the dense operations in the fully connected (FC) layer necessitate a vast number of parameters and entail extensive external memory access. Therefore, reducing the computational burden of convolution operations and alleviating memory overhead is essential in embedded environment. In this paper, we propose a strawberry ripeness classification system utilizing a convolution-based feature extractor (CoFEx) for accelerating convolution operations and an edge AI processor, Intellino, for replacing FC layer operations. We accelerated feature map extraction utilizing the CoFEx constructed with systolic array (SA) and alleviated the computational burden and memory overhead associated with the FC layer operations by replacing them with the k-nearest neighbors (k-NN) algorithm. The CoFEx and the Intellino both were designed with Verilog HDL and implemented on a field-programmable gate array (FPGA). The proposed system achieved a high precision of 93.4%, recall of 93.3%, and F1 score of 0.933. The current nutritional guidelines for stomach cancer survivors (SCSs) mainly focus on the influence of the surgical resection of the stomach, with limited guidance regarding a wider range of food options. We aimed to investigate the factors associated with healthier dietary changes in Korean adult SCSs. This cross-sectional study assessed dietary pattern changes after cancer treatment for 11 food categories, using a self-administered questionnaire. A 'healthier dietary change' was operationally defined as a reduced consumption of red and processed meat, grains, salt, and burnt food, and an increased consumption of poultry, fish, vegetables, fruits, legumes, and dairy products. Among a total of 624 SCSs, approximately 60% of participants reported dietary changes in a healthier direction in three or more food categories, while 9.1% reported no changes. There was no significant difference in dietary habit changes between surgery types. Multivariable adjusted analysis showed that elderly and long-term survivors were inversely associated with a healthier dietary change. SCSs with a higher level of educational achievement and income were more likely to make healthier changes in their intake of processed meat, vegetables, fruits, burnt food, or salt. SCSs with higher levels of fear of cancer recurrence, anxiety, or depression were more likely to follow healthier dietary changes regarding fish, meat, fruits, grains, or burnt food. Change in dietary pattern varied across different food items, and was associated with various characteristics of SCSs.
