Public administration as a field has struggled with truly understanding international migration as a phenomenon. This article argues that the concept of transnational administration can be used to better analyze how administrative states are able to reach and support their migrant workers in other countries. It develops the exceptional case of a national skills certification program implemented by the Philippines as an example of a state-led transnational administration. They have done so by using the administrative structures already in place through their embassies and consulates while also entering into partnerships with non-state actors in the destination countries. Embassies and consular offices act as an important focal point in the multi-scalar activities of the state by engaging in collaborative partnerships with both state and non-state actors. COVID-19 has disrupted the flow of international remittance that many South Asian economies depend upon. This 'remittance shock' is likely to catalyse a downturn in foreign exchange earnings, worsen structural unemployment and threaten the welfare of millions of low-income families. We situate the pandemic as an unprecedented challenge to the migration-development nexus in South Asia and examine the economic implications for three remittance economies: India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. We evaluate those countries' existing responses to the crisis and discuss policy alternatives, highlighting the need to recalibrate development strategies by reducing reliance on migration and remittances. There is a growing recognition in refugee and forced migration studies that research partnerships, especially those that cross geographies of the global North and global South, are both a blessing and a potential curse. They are a blessing as they encourage new approaches to the co-creation of knowledge, build solidarity networks, and leverage support for scholars based in the global South. But they can also be a curse as they typically function within and can inadvertently reproduce deeply embedded structures of inequality. Drawing on the results of a review of forced displacement research centres based in the global South and interviews with the directors of these centres, this article encourages a shift from focusing on research partnerships to an approach that supports the localization of knowledge production in refugee and forced migration studies. This approach seeks to change the structures of knowledge production, including direct funding to researchers and research centres based in the global South, an emphasis on the transfer of power to researchers in the South, a recognition of the diverse forms and sources of knowledge produced within the field, and an appreciation for the diverse understandings of success and impact across contexts. Why do international regime complexes develop? Are hard-law regimes effective in integrating regime complexes for international water resources management? Are there other alternatives? This article introduces international regime complexes and argues that these form a superior alternative to hard law and traditional global integrated regimes for many global policy issues. Failure of hard law to overcome fragmentation and generate integrated policy outcomes in international forestry, migration and water resource management is presented. Additional insights are drawn from two successful cases of water management in North America to argue for international regime complexes for better multi-level governance at the regional level. The authors delve into a very complex and long conflict relating to the Rohingya population in Myanmar by exploring and analysing the conflict thoroughly over time and from many different perspectives, including those of each major actor involved. The key actors involved in this conflict according to the authors are: the Rohingya Muslims, the Rakhine (Buddhist), the Tatmadaw (the Burman-dominated military), the National League for Democracy (NLD) government and the international community.
