Abstract The green synthesis of Iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) has shown numerous advantages over conventional physical and chemical synthesis methods as these methods non-ecofriendly and uses toxic chemicals and complicated equipments. In present study, Iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) were created using simple, sustainable, eco-friendly and green chemistry protocol. The roots of novel medicinal plant Sageretia thea was used as a bio-template for the preparation of IONPs. Further, the synthesis of IONPs was confirmed using different analytical tools like UV-Vis, FT-IR, XRD, EDX, and SEM. The average sizes of (NPs) were found to be 16.04 nm. Further, asynthesized IONPs were evaluated for several biological potentials including antibacterial, antifungal Anti-radical potentials (DPPH) and cytotoxicity assays. Antibacterial potencies were investigated using bacterial strains (in the concentration range of 1000–31.25 µg/mL) revealing significant antibacterial potentials. ABA and SAU was reported to be least susceptible while KPN was observed to be most susceptible strain in bactericidal studies. Further, different fungal strains were used to investigate the antifungal potentials of IONPs (in the concentration range of 1000–31.25 µg/mL) and revealed strong antifungal potencies against different pathogenic strains. Furthermore, MRA, FA and ANI were most susceptible and ABA was least susceptible in fungicidal examination. Significant cytotoxicity potential was examined using brine shrimps cytotoxicity assay, thus revealing the cytotoxic potential of asynthesized IONPs. The IC50 for S. thea based IONPs was recorded as 33.85 µg/mL. Strong anti-radical potentials (DPPH) assay was performed to evaluate the ROS scavenging potential of S.T@IONPs. The highest scavenging potential was noted as 78.06%, TRP as 81.92% and TAC as 84% on maximum concentration of 200 µg/mL. In summary, our experimental results concluded, that asynthesized IONPs have strong antibacterial, antifungal, DPPH scavenging and cytotoxic potentials and can be used in different biological applications. In nutshell, our as-prepared nanoparticles have shown potential bioactivities and we recommend, different other in vitro and in vivo biological and bioactivities to further analyze the biological potentials.

Abstract As a springboard to explore novel potent inhibitors of cholinesterase enzymes (AChE and BChE) responsible for causing Alzheimer disorder, the current study was conducted to synthesize pyrrole derived triazole based Schiff base scaffolds by facile synthetic route. These compounds were validated by 1HNMR, 13CNMR and HREI-MS. All these scaffolds (1–16) were examined for their inhibitory activity against AChE and BChE in contrast to Donepezil (10.20 ± 0.10 and 10.80 ± 0.20 µM) and Allanzanthone (12.40 ± 0.10 and 13.10 ± 0.10 µM). All pyrrole derived triazole based Schiff base scaffolds (1–16) showed varied range of inhibitory potentials against acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase enzymes with lowest inhibition concentration values ranging from 5.10 ± 0.40–27.10 ± 0.10 µM (for AChE) and 5.60 ± 0.30–28.40 ± 0.30 µM (for BChE). SAR analysis of these derivatives revealed analog 7 as lead molecule against targeted enzyme, while analog 6 and 11 were ranked as second and third most potent scaffolds. Binding affinity and selectivity of potent molecules against targeted enzymes were examined by molecular docking and obtained results showed that potent molecule have versatile significant binding interactions with stated enzymes. Furthermore, safety profiles of potent analogues were predicted via ADMET protocols. Graphical Abstract

Abstract The study empirically examines the factors affecting the financing decisions of non-financial listed companies in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Using static and dynamic two-step generalized method of moments techniques, it analyzes unbalanced panel data from 364 non-financial companies across six GCC countries from 2011 to 2021. The findings partially support optimal capital structure theories, highlighting significant internal factors such as profitability, market-to-book ratio, firm size, earnings volatility, and growth opportunities that influence financing decisions. While no single theory fully explains the financing choices, the association of internal factors with book and market leverage is consistent. The study provides robust and generalizable results, aiding financial institutions and policymakers in formulating pro-development policies and regulations. This research facilitates better coordination between corporate managers and financial institutions, supporting the region’s economic transition. It is the first study to use extensive data from GCC non-financial firms to investigate financing decisions, offering valuable insights for investors and a basis for further analysis of capital structure choices in the region and beyond.

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19), an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered Coronavirus (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) was targeted in the current research study. Different hybrid thiadiazole based thiazolidinone derivatives were designed and successfully synthesized. Structural validation of novel compounds was achieved via spectroscopy by employing 1HNMR, 13CNMR, HREI-MS. All the synthesized compounds were biologically evaluated to study their potential to inhibit the main protease of SARS-CoV-2. The SAR data revealed that among the synthesized thiadiazole-based thiazolidinone derivatives showed significant inhibitory profile against the targeted enzymes. Different substituted compounds 1 (IC50 = 0.10 µM), 2 (IC50 = 1.43 µM), 4 (IC50 = 2.25 µM), 5 (IC50 = 24.56 µM), 6 (IC50 = 26.47 µM), and 8 (IC50 = 19.59 µM), were found with excellent potentials, even more potent than its standard GC-376 drug (IC50 = 0.439 µM). Among the potent candidates of the series, compound 1 bearing CF3 at meta and NO2 at ortho position exhibited the top ranking potential and emerged as the excellent inhibitor of protease of SARS-CoV-2. Furthermore, these potent analogues were subjected to molecular docking study in order to explore their bonding interactions with active sites of SARS-CoV-2 3CL protease. This study was also enriched with ADME analysis to evaluate drug-likeness of lead compounds of the series.

AbstractThis study examines the empirical relationship between the different leverage levels as a proxy of financing mix on the financial performance of the non-financial firms listed on capital markets in GCC economies. The study uses the pooled ordinary least squares regression (OLS), fixed and random effects regression, and feasible generalised least square (FGLS) regression to explore the relationship among variables on the data of GCC firms listed from 2011 to 2021. The results suggest that the capital structure considerably affects firms’ performance. Findings refute the theoretical assumptions of Modigliani and Miller’s debt irrelevance and debt-supporting theorem. The findings also contradict the debt-supporting benefits the agency and trade-off theory suggest. Empirically, short-term, long-term, and total debt adversely affect the return on assets, equity, and earnings per share. Control variables, growth opportunities, and size of the firm positively and asset tangibility negatively contribute to the performance. The results will support the managers in making performance-improving financing decisions. Lenders should improve ex-ante screening and ex-post monitoring to avoid possible defaults. Local and foreign investors should carefully examine the firms’ debt levels before making investment decisions. Policymakers should focus on the flourishing of the bond markets to support privatisation and economic diversification. Our study is the first to use the recent data of GCC-listed firms to examine the impact of capital structure on firms’ performance. Contributing to the literature gap will also lay a foundation for a more comparative study on corporate financing with alternative financial instruments.

In recent years, green nanomaterials are increasingly being utilized in horticulture and agriculture due to their potential to transform plant development, improve crop yield, combat diseases, and pest management, among other applications. Significantly, green nanomaterials enhance nutrient delivery by improving stability, uptake, and solubility efficiency. Utilizing non-toxic precursors, waste reduction strategies, renewable resources, and energy-efficient processes, they offer sustainable technology advancement. Moreover, tomatoes, the largest domestic and industrial crop, yield around 200 million tons globally. They are beneficial for blood cleansing, gastrointestinal secretion, and nutrient reduction. However, they are susceptible to diseases like early blight, septoria leaf spot, late blight, and buckeye rot. In this regard, green nanomaterials have the potential to revolutionize agriculture by improving disease management, detecting diseases quickly, enhancing nutrient uptake, safely delivering agrochemicals, and reducing pesticide dosage. So, impressed by this, in this current review paper, we explored the use of green nanomaterials for tomato growth, and development and investigated their unique features, utilization, challenges, and future prospects. Ultimately, this review will open a new research gateway for plant-based nanomaterial and their utilization in various disciplines particularly for crop protection, growth, and soil health.

We have synthesized thiadiazole-isatin hybrid analogues (1–20), characterized through different spectroscopic techniques such as 1HNMR, 13CNMR, HREI-MS, and evaluated against α-glucosidase and α-amylase enzymes. All analogues showed potent inhibitory potentials, having an IC50 values ranged from 22.08 ± 0.09 to 54.03 ± 0.07 μM (against α-amylase) and 19.03 ± 0.04 to 50.03 ± 0.02 μM (α-glucosidase) when compared with the standard drug acarbose (IC50 = 22.07 ± 0.02 μM for α-amylase and IC50 = 18.01 ± 0.06 μM for α-glucosidase respectively). Among the series, analogues 13 (IC50 = 19.03 ± 0.04 and 22.08 ± 0.09 μM), 12 (IC50 = 21.03 ± 0.07 and 24.03 ± 0.07 μM), and 5 (IC50 = 22.02 ± 0.03 and 26.02 ± 0.04 μM) were identified as the most active inhibitors. The structure–activity relationship was carried out, mainly associated with the nature, number, position, and electron-donating and electron-withdrawing effects of the substituent (s) on the phenyl ring. With the help of molecular docking, the binding interaction of the most active analogues within the active site of enzymes was confirmed. Almost twelve compounds were also screened for antibacterial potential, and few were found to be effective against Bacillus subtilis. All compounds were verified for cytotoxicity against the 3 T3 mouse fibroblast cell line and detected non-toxic.

In this study we have adopted a new synthetic route for different substituted Schiff base derivatives (1–10) and examined their anti-diabetic potential. All these compounds exhibited a varied range against α-amylase and α-glucosidase with antidiabetic potential. Analog (6) with triflouro methyl substituent, present on the para position of the ring was emerged as most potent compound. Acarbose was used as reference drug with IC50 = 6.80 ± 0.40 μM and 7.20 ± 0.70 μM for α-amylase and α-glucosidase, respectively. Furthermore, antibacterial and antifungal activity of these compounds was also evaluated against E. coli and A. alternate in the presence of marketed drug Terbinafine and Streptomycin. Binding modalities of synthesized compounds with the receptor residues of target enzymes were explored by in silico docking. Additionally, ADME analysis and DFT were also conducted to assess the drug-like characteristics and electronic properties of the potent derivatives. The synthesized compounds were confirmed through spectroscopic techniques such as 13C NMR, 1H NMR and HREI-Mass spectrometry.

A novel series of varied substituted thiadiazole/oxadiazole based bis-Schiff base derivatives (1–10) was synthesized and characterized using NMR (13CNMR and 1HNMR) and HREI-mass spectrometry. To determine their anti-diabetic potential, these analogues were examined against α-amylase and α-glucosidase. These compounds demonstrated varied inhibitory range between IC50 = 1.10 ± 0.50 to 21.40 ± 0.20 µM (α-amylase) and 2.50 ± 0.05 to 21.40 ± 0.10 µM (α-glucosidase), when contrasted with Acarbose, a well-known marketed drug (IC50 = 3.16 ± 0.22 & 4.8 ± 0.21 µM for α-amylase and α-glucosidase respectively). Analog-9 having tri-fluoromethyl group at para position of benzene ring emerged as lead candidate among these synthesized compounds. The effective activity of compound-9 may be due to involvement of fluoro atoms interacting via hydrogen-bonding with the selected sites of diabetic enzymes, α-amylase and α-glucosidase. Furthermore, for exploration of binding interactions of potent drugs and reactivity of potent analogues, molecular docking as well as DFT was performed. For investigation of drug likeness and toxicity, ADME analysis was also conducted.

The emulsion graft polymerization process was used to synthesize a novel polyglycidyl methacrylate grafted silanized bamboo fiber composites. The grafting percentage was assessed by varying surfactant, initiator and monomer concentrations. The surface morphologies and thermal behavior of the biocomposites were analyzed using FTIR, SEM, XRD and TGA techniques. In batch adsorption studies, the effect of adsorption parameters like pH, adsorption time, adsorbent dose and solution temperature were examined on the adsorption efficiency of lead ions. The adsorption capacity of biosorbent composites was enhanced through conversion of epoxy group of Poly glycidyl methacrylate (PGMA) into sulfonic acid groups via sulfonation process. The sulfonic acid groups were incorporated into VMBF-g-PGMA by stirring the grafted sample in H2SO4 (98 %) for 2 h at 90 °C to obtain sulfonated grafted polymer (VMBF-g-PGMA-S). By increasing the concentration of monomers up to 5 %, the maximum grafting percentage (289 %) was achieved. The grafting % increases rapidly from 0.5 to 0.20 g initiator and at 0.20 g of initiator, the highest grafting yield was 512 %. The maximum Pb+2 adsorption capacity of adsorbent was 200 mg/g. The thermodynamic parameters for pb+2 adsorption revealed an exothermic and spontaneous nature of sorption process, and the entropy change showed that there are no substantial structural changes occurred in biosorbent material. The experimental results confirmed that sulfonated biosorbent composites are effective, economical, and promising adsorbent which could be used for removal of lead and other ions from aqueous solution.

Recently, there have been significant developments in advanced porous materials, especially with types like porous organic polymers, metal-organic frameworks, hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks, covalent organic frameworks, zeolites, and porous aromatic frameworks. These materials are gaining attention for their remarkable characteristics, including high surface area, adjustable pore sizes, strong adsorption capacity, stability under various conditions, effective catalytic properties, and good electrical conductivity, making them useful across a range of applications. This review article highlights the various types, structures, and synthesis methods of POPs, MOFs, HOFs, COFs, zeolites, and PAFs, in addition to their important applications such as hydrogen generation, gas sensing, CO2 conversion, pollutant degradation, CO2 capture, hydrogen evolution/oxygen evolution reactions, and batteries. Lastly, the future perspective of APMs along with the necessary steps to be taken and embraced in order to make them usable for long-term and large-scale applications will help in opening new innovative gateways to the research field.

A new series of benzothiazole derived thiazole-based bis-benzohydrazide hybrid (1–20) analogs were synthesized. Initially, the product confirmation was identified by employing TLC and the basic skeleton of the new hybrid synthesized compounds was further confirmed through spectroscopic techniques such as 13CNMR, 1HNMR and HREI-MS. Moreover, the synthesized analogs were tested for their inhibitory activities against acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase. In the whole series, compounds 1, 2, 3 and 6 were found with potent activity against acetylcholinesterase (AChE), and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE). Molecular docking inveatigation of the potent compounds was performed within the active site of acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase revealing compounds 1, 2, 3 and 6 showing promising binding orientations against both enzymes as compared to reference drug donepezil with their IC50 values 1(2.20 ± 1.40 and 3.18 ± 0.45 μM), 2 (2.89 ± 1.25 and 2.78 ± 1.49 μM), 3 (2.94 ± 1.10 and 3.07 ± 1.23 μM), 6 (5.83 ± 1.45 and 6.03 ± 3.08 μM), respectively, and reference drug (IC50 = 8.73 ± 2.68 and 9.30 ± 2.60 μM for acetylcholinesterase and butyrylchlinesterase, respectively. In addition, ADME studies were conducted to gain a deeper understanding of the functional mechanisms of a drug on a living organism. It is considered that benzothiazole derived thiazole based bis-benzohydrazide hybrid analogs (1, 2, 3, 6) might be better inhibitors of acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase enzymes.

We have synthesized 1,2,4-triazole bearing benzenesulfonohydrazide analogues (1–21), characterized through different spectroscopic techniques such as 1HNMR, 13CNMR, HREI-MS and were evaluated against Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and Butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) enzymes. All the newly synthesized analogues showed excellent to good inhibition potential with IC50 values ranged from 0.30 ± 0.050 to 15.21 ± 0.50 µM (against AChE) and 0.70 ± 0.050 to 18.27 ± 0.60 µM (against BuChE) as compared to the standard drug Donepezil (IC50 = 2.16 ± 0.12 and 4.5 ± 0.11 µM, respectively). Analogues 2 and 4 which were found inactive against these enzymes. However, analogues 17 (IC50 = 0.30 ± 0.050 and 0.70 ± 0.050 µM) and 13 (IC50 = 0.70 ± 0.05 and 1.70 ± 0.050 µM) were found to have potent inhibitory potentials against the targeted enzymes. Structure-activity relationship was carried out which mainly depends upon the nature, position and numbers of the substitution present on phenyl rings that may be electron withdrawing/donating. Molecular docking study was carried out to know about the binding mode of interaction of the most active site of the synthesized analogues with the targeted enzymes.

One of the major neurodegenerative disorders, Alzheimer’s disease (AD) was targeted in the current study synthesizing bis-Schiff bases derivatives. All the synthesized scaffolds were found to have a range of IC50 values (2.50 ± 0.10 µM to 19.20 ± 0.10 µM) for AChE and (3.60 ± 0.10 µM to 19.90 ± 0.20 µM) for BuChE enzyme in comparison to reference drug donepezil (10.10 ± 0.20 µM to 11.50 ± 0.20 µM). Among the members of novel series, analogue 9 exhibited surpassing potential against both enzymes. Additionally, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial potential were also determined, where analog 9 showed higher anti-fungal inhibition (46.5 %) and analog 8 displayed strong inhibition potential (35.5 %) as anti-bacterial. Furthermore, in silico molecular docking approach was employed to explore the linkage between active site of proteins and active ligands. ADMET analysis conducted in this study predicted the drug nature of the lead compounds. The reactivity of the potent compounds for the attack of electrophile and nucleophile was elucidated via DFT. Moreover, the basic structural skeleton of the synthesized derivatives was characterized through modern methods of structure elucidation such as HREI-MS, 1H NMR and 13C NMR.

In search for a potent anti-Diabetes therapeutic agent, we have synthesized a series of indole based triazole derived sulfonothioate derivatives (1–15). These compounds were structurally elucidated via different techniques like 1HNMR, 13CNMR, and HREI-MS. Biological potential of all the derivatives against diabetes mellitus was contrasted with the reference drug Acarbose. In this regard, analog 7 (IC50 = 3.20 ± 0.10 and 4.20 ± 0.50 µM), 9 (IC50 = 5.10 ± 0.10 and 5.70 ± 0.30 µM) and 15 (IC50 = 3.20 ± 0.70 and 3.40 ± 0.50 µM) emerged as the leading inhibitor with captivating potential in comparison to standard drug acarbose (IC50 = 10.40 ± 0.50 and 11.50 ± 0.20 µM). Structure activity relationship determined the influence of substitution (−F, −Cl, –OH, NO2 etc.) on drug profile of the synthesized analogs. Drug profile of these compounds was also analyzed through molecular docking investigations, assessing the bonding interactions between ligands and enzymes. Furthermore, ADME analysis was performed on the promising compounds, revealing traits akin to those of pharmaceuticals.

The current study described the synthesis of pyrazine-based novel molecules (1–15) using stepwise processes and their structures have been identified using various characterization techniques such as 1HNMR, 13CNMR, and HREI-MS. Furthermore, biological assessment of these scaffolds as anti-Alzheimer, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal activities were evaluated. Their inhibitory potentials were determined using the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) in the presence of standard drugs donepezil (IC50 = 8.90 ± 0.20 µM), streptomycin (inhibition = 36.5 %), and Terbinafine (inhibition = 31.7 %) respectively. Among the screened molecules against acetylcholinesterase enzyme, the potent behavior was shown by scaffolds 1 (IC50 = 3.20 ± 0.40 µM), 2 (IC50 = 2.10 ± 0.20 µM), 4 (IC50 = 2.90 ± 0.10 µM), 5 (IC50 = 5.80 ± 0.30 µM), 6 (IC50 = 7.20 ± 0.20 µM), 8 (IC50 = 6.30 ± 0.30 µM), 9 (IC50 = 6.50 ± 0.20 µM), 10 (IC50 = 7.30 ± 0.20 µM) and 11 (IC50 = 7.10 ± 0.20 µM). Structure-activity relationship was carried out which mainly depends upon the substitution pattern around the phenyl ring. These compounds were further investigated by molecular docking studies which explore the binding interaction of ligands with active sites of enzymes. Moreover, ADMET prediction was also studied for potent scaffolds that displayed drug-like properties.

We have developed new thiadiazole-containing Schiff base derivatives and examined their ability to inhibit α-amylase and α-glucosidase. Among the members of series, analogue 1 showed excellent inhibitory potential (IC50 = 1.60 ± 0.20 and 2.40 ± 0.10 µM for α-amylase and α-glucosidase) as compare to standard Acarbose (IC50 = 5.30 ± 0.20 and 6.10 ± 0.10 µM). Trifluoromethyl substituted analogue-1 showed best properties because of hydrogen bond formation. Analogue 3 and 9 were also found potent against the target enzymes. All the compounds were investigated for their antibacterial and antifungal activity. Analogue 1, 3 and 9 exhibited bacterial inhibition of 42.3 %, 40.1 %, 38.2 %, and 36.5 %, respectively in contrast to streptomycin (44 %). Analogue 1, 4 and 9 exhibited excellent anti-fungal potency of 43.4, 31.9 and 34.3 %, respectively as compared to standard terinafine (50.6675 %). Scaffolds (1–12) were analyzed through HREI-mass spectrometry, 13C NMR, and 1H NMR. The functioning of active interacting residues for the enzymes was determined by molecular docking (MD), and it was found that thiadiazole bearing Schiff base derivatives could be considered suitable anti-diabetic drugs. ADMET and DFT analysis was also performed to determine stability, drug properties and electronic properties (electrophilic, nucleophilic, HOMO, LUMO) of the synthesized compounds.

The current study was conducted to establish a unique synthetic route for the synthesis of varied substituted benzimidazole derived thiazole base thiazolidinone derivatives by using molecular hybridization approach. For structural interpretation of these compounds, different spectroscopic techniques such as 13CNMR, 1HNMR and spectrometric technique HREI-MS were used. These compounds were examined in vitro against AChE and BuChE to evaluate their inhibitory profile in comparison with standard drug donepezil (IC50 = 1.60 ± 0.18 µM for AChE and IC50 = 5.3 ± 0.11 µM for BuChE). All the synthesized compounds exhibit excellent to moderate activity with IC50 ranging from 1.20 ± 1.07 µM to 28.14 ± 2.38 µM for AChE and 1.70 ± 3.10 µM to 27.65 ± 0.39 µM for BuChE in contrast to donepezil. Among the members of synthesized series, analog 2 and 7 emerged as most potent analogues having IC50 = 1.64 ± 0.04 µM (AChE) and 3.19 ± 0.18 µM (BuChE) and (IC50 = 1.20 ± 1.07 µM (AChE) and 2.38 ± 1.14 µM (BuChE), respectively. The active analogues were further explored by molecular docking to evaluate their degrees of binding interaction with active site of targeted enzymes.

This study was aimed to design and synthesize hybrid analogues of benzoxazole bearing thiosemicarbazide analogues 1–15 as promising β-Glucuronidase inhibitory activity using D-saccharic acid 1,4-lactone as the reference inhibitor. The newly afforded benzoxazole-thiosemicarbazide compounds 1–15 displayed a broad range of inhibitory potential with IC50 values ranging from 20.58 ± 2.46 to 87.89 ± 8.43 μM, as compared to D-saccharic acid 1,4-lactone (IC50 = 59.5 ± 5.36 μM). Among the synthesized series, the compounds 14, 2, and 5 demonstrated outstanding β-Glucuronidase inhibitory potential with IC50 values of 20.58 ± 2.46, 25.24 ± 2.34 and 24.53 ± 2.53 μM respectively. Further, the precise structures of synthesized analogues were confirmed using 1H NMR, 13C NMR and HREIMS. Additionally, the molecular docking approach was employed to correlate the in vitro β-Glucuronidase inhibitory activity well with in silico study and result obtained corroborated that active analogues established several key interactions with the active sites of β-Glucuronidase enzyme.

Sixteen new coumarin-based oxazole derivatives were synthesized and their structures were characterized by employing various spectroscopic tools including HREI-MS and NMR. The in vitro assessment of their α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibitory activities revealed that that compound 1 (bearing trifluoro methyl at 4-position of aryl ring D) & 16 (having 3-hydroxy & 4-fluoro groups on aryl ring D) exhibited potent α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibitory potentials with IC50 values of 0.70 ± 0.05 & 0.90 ± 0.05 (against α-amylase) and 1.10 ± 0.10 & 1.20 ± 0.10 (against α-glucosidase) respectively. Analogs 2, 3, 4, 5, 10 and 14 also displayed better inhibitory potentials compared to known potent acarbose inhibitor. Furthermore, the molecular docking studies of the potent analogs docked within the active site cavity of both α-amylase and α-glucosidase showed enhanced binding interaction with good predicted binding affinities. These compounds 1 and 16 could therefore be considered as potentials lead molecules for the development of potentially new improved α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibitors.

This investigation portrays the phytochemical screening, green synthesis, characterization of Fe and Zn nanoparticles, their antibacterial, anti-inflammation, cytotoxicity, and anti-thrombolytic activities. Four dissimilar solvents such as, n-hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and n-butanol were used to prepare the extracts of Phlomis cashmeriana Royle ex Benth. This is valued medicinal plant (Family Lamiaceae), native to mountains of Afghanistan and Kashmir. In the GC-MS study of its extract, the identified phytoconstituents have different nature such as terpenoids, alcohol and esters. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by SEM, UV, XRD, and FT-IR. The phytochemical analysis showed that the plant contains TPC (total phenolic content) 297.51 mg GAE/g and TFC (total flavonoid content) 467.24 mg CE/g. The cytotoxicity values have shown that the chloroform, n-butanol and aqueous extracts were more toxic than other extracts. The anti-inflammatory potential of n-butanol and aqueous extracts was found higher than all other extracts. Chloroform and n-hexane extracts have low MIC values against both E. coli and S. aureus bacterial strains. Chloroform and aqueous extracts have great anti-thrombolytic potential than all other extracts. Overall, this study successfully synthesized the nanoparticles and provides evidence that P. cashmeriana have promising bioactive compounds that could serve as potential source in the drug formulation.

Th is study offers empirical insights into investor behavior and its correlation with various behavioral biases in the context of investment decisions in the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX). Data was collected through a structured questionnaire from 261 individual investors in Pakistan. The study employs hierarchical regression analysis to test the hypothesis. It considers several behavioral biases, and statistically, anchoring and adjustment, overconfidence, and herding show a significant impact. The study uses financial literacy to examine its moderating effects on these biases, and the result suggests that it significantly influences behavioral biases related to investment decisions. The results underscore the unique investment behaviors in emerging markets, contrasting with established norms in well-developed financial markets. These findings can inform policymakers and stock market authorities about investor decision-making in emerging economies.

Objective: To synthesize hybrid compounds of indole and oxadiazole in search of highly effective anti-diabetic therapeutic agent. Methods: With the goal of advancing diabetes research, our group designed and synthesized a library of 15 compounds based on indole-derived oxadiazole bearing varied substituted thiazolidinone via a multistep synthetic route. 13C-NMR, 1H-NMR and HREI-MS were applied for the characterization of all the synthesized compounds. Their biological inhibitory activity against diabetic enzymes, i.e., α-amylase and α-glucosidase was also determined. Results: Compound 7, 9 and 15 exhibited excellent inhibition against α-amylase and α-glucosidase than the standard acarbose (IC50 = 8.50 ± 0.10 µM for α-amylase and 9.30 ± 0.30 µM for α-glucosidase. To ensure the inhibitory actions of these potent analogs in molecular docking, an in silico approach was used. To determine the drug likeness of the reported analogs, an ADMET investigation was also carried out to explore the nature of the designed compounds if used as a drug. Conclusion: Fluoro-substituted analog 15 has stronger inhibition profile against both enzymes. All the potent compounds can be used as effective anti-diabetic therapeutic agents in future.

In order to explore new acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) inhibitors, a series of benzimidazole-fused-thiazole bearing Schiff base derivatives (1–16) were designed and synthesized and further their precise structures were elucidated using various spectroscopic tools including 1H NMR, 13C NMR and HREI-MS. All the synthesized derivatives demonstrated better acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) inhibitory potential with IC50 values ranging from 0.10 ± 0.10 µM to 11.60 ± 0.40 µM (against AChE) and 0.90 ± 0.10 µM to 22.10 ± 0.60 µM (BuChE) when the results were compared with Donepezil (IC50 = 2.16 ± 0.12 µM (against AChE) & 4.5 ± 0.11 µM (against BuChE) as standard inhibitor. Specifically, the analogues 4, 5, 11, 14 and 15 were identified to be significant potent, even more active than standard drug having IC50 values of 0.80 ± 0.10, 0.50 ± 0.10, 0.60 ± 0.10, 0.10 ± 0.10, 0.10 ± 0.10 µM (against AChE) and 2.40 ± 0.10, 1.10 ± 0.10, 1.30 ± 0.10, 0.90 ± 0.10 & 0.80 ± 0.10 µM (against BuChE) respectively. The structure–activity relationship (SAR) studies were carried out for all synthesized derivatives based on substitution pattern around aryl ring. Furthermore, the molecular docking approach was developed to explore the binding mode of interactions between most active scaffolds and active sites of targeted acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase enzymes.

In this study, we have synthesized S-substituted benzothiazole derived thiazole bearing bis-Schiff base derivatives (1–19) and characterized via different spectroscopic techniques including NMR and HR-EIMS and then screened against α-amylase and α-glycosidase. All the analogues show excellent inhibitory capability. Analogues 1 (IC50 = 3.18 ± 0.72 µM and 2.30 ± 1.80 µM) and 4 (IC50 = 1.40 ± 0.59 µM and 2.10 ± 0.78 µM) were found to be the strongest among the all in contrast with standard drug acarbose (IC50 = 4.30 ± 0.18 and 6.45 ± 1.84 µM) for α-amylase and α-glycosidase. Some derivatives show good potency against both the enzymes while few were found moderately potent. For all the molecules structure–activity relationship was carried to determine the decrease/increase in potency due to steric hindrance, bulky nature, position, type, size, quantity of the substituent/s on phenyl rings. Molecular docking and ADME analysis were carried out to signify the binding interactions of the most potent derivatives with the active site of enzymes.

In this approach, fused triazole thiazole derivatives (1–14) were synthesized and designed as dual inhibitors of AChE and BuChE which exhibit promising inhibitory activity to cure one of the progressive disorders, Alzheimer’s disease. Different spectroscopic techniques (13C NMR, 1H NMR and HREI-MS) were employed for the synthetic confirmations of all the derivatives. Using the standard drug donepezil (IC50 = 10.60 ± 0.20 for AChE and 11.80 ± 0.49 µM for BuChE). All the analogues in the current series showed a wide range of inhibitory potentials such as (IC50 = 7.20 ± 0.10 to 17.50 ± 0.10 µM for AChE and IC50 = 8.10 ± 0.20 to 18.20 ± 0.10 µM for BuChE). The nature, number and position of the attached substituents in the phenyl ring greatly influenced the inhibitory activity of the current analogues in the series. However, Analogue 4 with IC50 values (7.20 ± 0.10, 8.10 ± 0.20 µM) showed immense potency due to para substituted tri-fluoro methyl moiety. Molecular docking studies and ADME analysis was also conducted for the excellent binding interactions with target enzymes and drug like properties of the potent analogues.

Hybrid molecules based on the 1,3,4-thiadiazole were always the choice of different researchers due to their significant application in medicinal as well as pharmaceutical application. In the present study, twenty analogs of 1,3,4-thiadiazole-bearing thiosemicarbazide moiety (1–20) were synthesized and screened for their anti-diabetic profile. The synthesized compounds were spectroscopically characterized through different spectroscopic techniques such as 1HNMR, 13CNMR, and HREI-MS. Comparing the whole set of afforded compounds to the standard glimepiride drugs (16.01 ± 0.02 μM), the inhibition profiles against α-amylase ranged from 21.02 ± 0.08 to 54.08 ± 0.04 μM. Comparing synthetic analogs to normal glimepiride (IC50 = 14.06 ± 0.05 μM), the range of α-glucosidase activity was likewise variable, ranging from 18.04 ± 0.07 μM to IC50 = 51.05 ± 0.03 μM (against α-glucosidase). Compound 19 demonstrated high potency among the produced analogs since it had both ortho-nitro substitution at the aryl ring. The pattern of substitutions around the aryl ring was used for all analogs to determine the structure–activity relationship. In addition, a molecular docking study was conducted on the potent analogs to examine the interactions between the active residues of the targeted enzymes with the synthesized compound. The synthesized molecule showed different types of interactions with amino acid. The outcome demonstrates that these compounds provide several essential interactions with the active sites of enzymes, hence strengthening their enzymatic activity for the future prediction as drug competitors.

Background: There were a number of restorative materials, which were fulfilling the requirements of a dental restorative material partially or somewhat completely with some limitations. 3M ESPE recently introduced a new dental restorative material, Filtek™ Silorane, which was claimed to fulfil the main objective completely, which was even confirmed by the recent studies. In order to make the best available dental restorative material an ideal restorative material it has to be bioactive. This study has been planned for the invention of a Silorane based bioactive material. It was proposed to incorporate the known bioactive materials (Hydroxyapatite and Fluoroapatite) in Silorane and analyze its chemical characterization. The main objective of a restorative dental material is to restore the function and aesthetics of the dental patient. Methods: Hydroxyapatite and Fluoroapatite were synthesized and incorporated in Silorane by 5, 10, 40, 50 and 60% weight ratio. The resultant samples were chemically analyzed by FTIR and Raman Spectroscopy. Results: The incorporation of synthesized Hydroxyapatite and Fluoroapatite into Silorane resulted in the innovation of a new bioactive restorative material. The resultant FTIR and Raman spectra shows that the Silorane incorporated by 40, 50 and 60% hydroxyapatite and fluoroapatite were altering the chemical structure of Silorane while spectrum of the samples with 5 and 10% of hydroxyapatite and fluoroapatite shows the apatites presence without changing the chemical structure of Silorane. Conclusion: A novel bioactive restorative material was invented by the incorporation of synthesized nano-Hydroxyapatite and Fluoroapatite into Filtek™ Silorane. The chemical characterization showed that bond was formed between the apatites and siloxane functional groups which results in the best available dental restorative material.

Background: Hydroxyapatite is a material which resembles the composition and crystal structure of hard tissues in human body. It is being used in dentistry as a bioactive material in dental implants and is a major constituent in the bone regenerative materials. Fluoroapatite is also a bioactive material and is more stable than Hydroxyapatite. The fluoride content is anti - bacterial and is working very efficiently as a component of dental restorative materials. Objective: The objective is to synthesize the nano Hydroxyapatite and nanoFluoroapatite powder via sol-gel method, and compare the FTIR and Raman Spectrums of synthesized material with the FTIR and Raman of nano Hydroxyapatite and Fluoroapatite. Methods: The materials were synthesized by sol - gel method and then evaluated by the FTIR and Raman spectroscopy to confirm the chemical structure of both the materials. Results: FTIR and Raman Spectroscopy of the synthesized Hydroxyapatite and Fluoroapatite are then evaluated and compared with market grade materials, which confirm the presence of hydroxyl, phosphate and carbonate group in the obtained samples. Conclusion: Sol - gel is proved to be a reliable and simple method for the synthesis of nano Hydroxyapatite and Fluoroapatite particles. The obtained samples then compared with the available materials to confirm that the material synthesized is pure and chemically identical.

ABSTRACT Background: Anxiety and depression are considered as an important mental health indicators in the community. Medical undergraduates face several emotional, mental and physical stresses during the academic years. Researches indicate that medical students experience a large amount of psychological pressure due to work required in a competitive environment, extreme working hours, examination stress, large amount of information to seek, lack of social life, responsibility of human welfare. Anxiety and depression ranks fourth as the leading cause of disability globally. Several studies suggest high prevalence depression and anxiety among medical students with distress levels consistently higher than general population. The objective was to assess the level of hypochondriasis among the medical and dental student from first year to final year. Methodology: A cross sectional survey was conducted amongst the students of medical and dental college at Ziauddin University. The study included total 404 students from both disciplines, a pre-structured questionnaire “The Illness Altitude Scale- IAS” was given to the students after validation. SPSS version 17 was used for data analysis and p value >0.05 was considered significant. Results: Of the total (n=450) 404 students completed the questionnaire. The average mean age was 22.05±2.6. Of the total (n=164) dental students, 10 students had mild, 83 moderate and 71 had severe hypochondriasis. Among (n=240) medical students, 13 had mild, 153 moderate and 74 had severe hypochondriasis. Conclusion: These finding confirms the presence of hypochondriasis among the medical and dental undergraduate students, which increases from mild to severe from initial to final years.

ABSTRACT Background: Contamination is the most common problem of the dental composites when the incremental technique is used to restore a tooth, which results in low bond strengths between the tooth and the resin composite. This study was designed to evaluate the best method to decontaminate the tooth resin interface by analysing the shear bond strength of two bonding agents used to bond a hybrid composite, Herculite XRV to a hydroxyapatite disk with and without contamination and decontamination procedures. Methods: The hydroxyapatite discs were acid-etched, rinsed and air-dried prior to bonding. Specimens were divided into 4 groups, Control group: Normal bonding, Group 1: Contamination, normal bonding Group 2: Contamination, air-blow, normal bonding Group 3: Contamination, rinse, normal bonding. Following bond application, the composite (4mm diameter, 4 mm height) was build-up in 2 X 2 mm increments cured with an LED curing light. Specimens were stored in damp gauze sealed in a bag at 37 °C for 24 hours prior to testing. The shear bond strength was determined and mode of failure assessed using an Optical Microscope. Results: The three-step etch and rinse adhesive, OptiBond FL, exhibited higher bond strength (43.2 ± 2 MPa) than OptiBond Solo Plus (32.3 ± 2.4 MPa) without contamination. However, OptiBond Solo plus was more resistant to bond failure and responded better to decontamination methods. Conclusion: Air drying was found the most reliable method for decontamination. However, isolation remains the key factor in protecting the resin-tooth interface by any contamination.

Background: Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is a chronic, precancerous condition of oral mucosa characterized by juxta-epithelial inflammatory reaction along with hyalinization of lamina propria. These alterations causes fibrosis and stiffness of oral mucosa leading to limited mouth opening and related problems. Objective: To evaluate the frequency and clinical forms of Oral Submucous fibrosis. Methods: A retrospective study conducted on patients from Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery department of Dr. Ziauddin hospital Clifton, Kemari & North Nazimabad campus from 2009 till 201 3. Patients with OSMF irrespective of age and gender were the inclusion criteria. The demographic information along with clinical presentation of patients was tabulated and analyzed by descriptive statistics. Results: A total number of 70 patients with OSMF were evaluated. The most commonage group was 11- 20 years in the study. There were 42 male and 28 female patients with male female ratio. The most common complaint of OSMF patients was burning sensation in oral cavity followed by limited mouth opening and dryness of mouth. The majority of patients presented with an advanced stage of disease with grade 3 interincisal distance. Conclusion: OSMF is becoming a disease of younger adults with a slight male predilection. The majority of patients presents with a progressive and advanced form of disease. Key Words: OSMF, Precancerous Condition, Fibrosis, Interincisal Distance.

Background: Silorane, introduced to the dentistry recently. It is named after the functional groups present in the material i.e. Siloxane and Oxirane. It is introduced in the market to overcome the main problems of composite resins i.e. Polymerization shrinkage. Claims are being made that the polymerization shrinkage have been overcome in the material and the material results in less than 1% polymerization shrinkage. The material claims to have properties which may fulfil the criteria of being the ideal restorative materials of all times. Objective: To confirm the presence of Siloxane and Oxirane in the chemical structure of the Silorane by Fourier Transform Infra-red (FTIR) and Raman Spectroscopy. Methods: Solvation of Silorane was done in Tetrahydrofuran (THF) using the magnetic stirrer. After the evaporation of THF, the resultant powder was then evaluated under the FTIR and Raman Spectroscopy. Results: The FTIR spectrum of Silorane shows some primary reference bands in the spectrum of Silorane and shows the absorption of primary oxirane bands. The peaks indicated the presence of Siloxane bands and CH groups. Raman spectrum of Silorane confirming the presence of ν phase of Siloxane. The peaks show the presence of O-Si-O and C = C group. Conclusion: The FTIR and Raman spectrums confirms the presence of Siloxane and Oxirane bands which results in low polymerisation shrinkage due to the cationic ring opening mechanism when compared with methacrylates which polymerises via a free radical mechanism. The study analyzes the impact of fintech adoption on the banking sector's stability in GCC countries from 2010 to 2022. The study also considers the role of fintech regulations in this framework. We construct an index of fintech adoption by banks by considering several factors such as banks' digital presence, mobile banking capabilities, support for open APIs, fintech partnerships, digital payment solutions, automation and artificial intelligence integration, innovation initiatives, user experience focus and embracing new technologies. The regulatory environment is measured through the existence or introduction of fintech-related regulations such as the regulatory sandbox. The findings imply that fintech adoption has reduced banks' stability in GCC. The fintech-stability relationship varies over various bank-specific and country-specific variables. For instance, large and well-capitalized banks are less likely to experience adverse effects of fintech adoption. Moreover, the negative impact of fintech on financial stability is lower for Islamic, foreign and government banks. In addition, banks operating in well-developed and more competitive banking sectors experience lower financial instability when adopting fintech innovation. We confirm these findings with an alternative indicator of fintech adoption. The study also discusses essential policy implications for the sample countries.

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are among the most common infections diagnosed in clinical practice. Treatment is often initiated before microbiological confirmation and anti-microbial susceptibility testing. With the rapidly rising antibiotic resistance treatment failures are not uncommon. Beta-lactamase production by gram-negative bacteria causing UTI is the commonest mode of drug resistance. The aim of current study was to detect and determine the hospital based prevalence of UTI, causative uropathogens and their antimicrobial susceptibility patterns. A total of 9,518 clean catch, mid stream urine samples were processed over 2 years. Semi-quantitative urine cultures and AST were performed. Diverse underlying resistance mechanisms were determined by detecting ESBLs, Carbapenemases, AmpC β-Lactamases, and Metallo-β-Lactamases through various standardized phenotypic methods. Out of the 9,518 samples tested 1171 (12.3%) were culture positive. Majority (66.7%) were from female patients. Highest prevalence (60%) was seen in patients > 40 years of age. E. coli (48%) was the predominant causative organism, followed by Enterococcus spp. (23%). Among GNB high resistance rates were observed against Beta-lactams, Beta-lactam/β-lactamase inhibitor combinations, and fluoroquinolones. 34.5% of GNB were confirmed as ESBL, 40% as carbapenemase, 36.5% as AmpC β-Lactamase, and 41.5% as MBL producers. We found very high levels of resistance against a broad range of antibiotics including the most widely used β-lactam group. With the resistance slopes getting steeper and steeper empirical treatment of UTIs might be fraught with the danger of many failures. Culturing and performing AST for all patients with UTI might be a prudent step for their rationale treatment and a step forward in halting the emergence of further resistance.

Modern industries rapid expansion has heightened energy needs and accelerated fossil fuel depletion, contributing to global warming. Additionally, organic pollutants present substantial risks to aquatic ecosystems due to their stability, insolubility, and non-biodegradability. Scientists are currently researching high-performance materials to address these issues. LaFeO3 nanosheets (LFO-NS) were synthesized in this study using a solvothermal method with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as a soft template. The LFO-NS demonstrate superior performance, large surface area and charge separation than that of LaFeO3 nanoparticles (LFO-NP). The LFO-NS performance is further upgraded by incorporating ZIF-67. Our results confirmed the ZIF-67/LFO-NS nanocomposite have superior performances than pure LFO-NP and ZIF-67. The integration of ZIF-67 has enhanced the charge separation and promote the surface area of LFO-NSwhich was confirmed by various characterization techniques including TEM, HRTEM, DRS, EDX, XRD, FS, XPS, FT-IR, BET, PL, and RAMAN. The 5ZIF-67/LFO-NS sample showed significant activities for CO2 conversion, malachite green degradation, and antibiotics (cefazolin, oxacillin, and vancomycin) degradation. Furthermore, stability tests have confirmed that our optimal sample very active and stable. Furthermore, based on scavenger experiments and the photocatalytic degradation pathways, it has been established that H+ and •O2− are vital in the decomposition of MG and antibiotics. Our research work will open new gateways to prepare MOFs-Perovskites nanocatalysts for exceptional CO2 conversion, organic pollutants and antibiotics degradation.

This study analyzes the impact of investor sentiment on firm's stock price crash risk by using Chinese A-Share firms data this study assesses the potency and existence of a relationship between crash risk and investor sentiment in the Chinese stock market and introduces analyst herding as a mediating variable for explaining the relationship between crash risk and investor sentiment. By utilizing a large data set of A-share listed firms on Chinese stock exchanges, comprising of 19,371 firm-year observations for the period of 2004–2019, an investor sentiment index is constructed. Results point towards a positive significant relation between stock price crash risk and investor sentiment. Furthermore, stock price crash is positively correlated with analyst herding i.e. it significantly mediates between stock price crash risk and investor sentiment. By measuring the relationship between crash risk, investor sentiment, and analyst herding this study provides systematic support on the mediating role of analyst herding in deepening the market sentiment which results in crash risk. These findings are robust by utilizing alternate proxies and controlling for firm specific variables, economy-wide shocks, and time trends year fixed effects.

Nanomaterials (NMs) have garnered significant attention in recent decades due to their versatile applications in a wide range of fields. Thanks to their tiny size, enhanced surface modifications, impressive volume-to-surface area ratio, magnetic properties, and customized optical dispersion. NMs experienced an incredible upsurge in biomedical applications including diagnostics, therapeutics, and drug delivery. This minireview will focus on notable examples of NMs that tackle important issues, demonstrating various aspects such as their design, synthesis, morphology, classification, and use in cutting-edge applications. Furthermore, we have classified and outlined the distinctive characteristics of the advanced NMs as nanoscale particles and hybrid NMs. Meanwhile, we emphasize the incredible potential of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), a highly versatile group of NMs. These MOFs have gained recognition as promising candidates for a wide range of bio-applications, including bioimaging, biosensing, antiviral therapy, anticancer therapy, nanomedicines, theranostics, immunotherapy, photodynamic therapy, photothermal therapy, gene therapy, and drug delivery. Although advanced NMs have shown great potential in the biomedical field, their use in clinical applications is still limited by issues such as stability, cytotoxicity, biocompatibility, and health concerns. This review article provides a thorough analysis offering valuable insights for researchers investigating to explore new design, development, and expansion opportunities. Remarkably, we ponder the prospects of NMs and nanocomposites in conjunction with current technology.

The present work describes the synthetic procedure of 1,2,4-triazole derivatives (1–14) synthesized efficiently in a single step reaction. Basic skeleton confirmation was achieved through different characterization approaches, such as nuclear magnetic resonance(1HNMR and13CNMR) and high-resolution electron ionization mass spectrometry(HREI-MS). In vitro biological assessment of these scaffolds as anti-urease and anti-cancer agents was analyzed in presence of their standard compounds thiourea (IC50 = 9.30 ± 0.20 µM)and Tetrandrine (IC50 = 11.70 ± 0.10 µM), respectively. Inhibition ranges were observed for all scaffolds with IC50 = 2.10 ± 0.20–––37.40 ± 1.10 µM and IC50 = 4.10 ± 0.10–––39.90 ± 0.20 µM, respectively. Among the screened, the potent behavior were shown by scaffolds 3 (IC50 = 2.10 ± 0.20 and 4.10 ± 0.10 µM), 4(IC50 = 3.20 ± 1.10 and 5.20 ± 0.20 µM), 5(IC50 = 4.20 ± 0.30 and 5.60 ± 0.10 µM), 13(IC50 = 5.80 ± 1.10 and 5.90 ± 0.10 µM)and 14(IC50 = 4.30 ± 1.20 and 6.10 ± 1.20 µM).These analogs show the excellent inhibition owing to the spellbinding reactivity of –CF3, −F, −Cl and –OH moieties, which decelerate enzyme potential via effective binding between drug molecule and enzyme. These compounds were further investigated by means of molecular docking studies which explore the binding interaction of ligand within the binding pockets of enzymes. In this regard, excellent results were found in both the activity profiles of these scaffolds. Additionally, ADMET investigations also strengthen the drug profile of the potent compounds.

The current study addressed the synthesis of thiazole-based thiazolidinone derivatives (1–18) using stepwise reaction processes, and their structure was confirmed using various characterization techniques such as 1HNMR, 13CNMR, and HREI-MS. Furthermore, the biological features of these analogues as anti-cancer drugs against human cancer cell lines (HCC78 and H3122) were identified. Their inhibitory potentials were determined using the half-maximal inhibitory concentration (MIC50) in the presence of their standard drugs Tetrandrineb (IC50 = 10.70 ± 0.30 µM), respectively. Structure activity relationship (SAR) was established for all the synthesized scaffolds and compared their inhibitory potentials with standard, in which scaffolds 1 (IC50 = 5.20 ± 0.40 µM), 2 (IC50 = 4.10 ± 0.20 µM), 3 (IC50 = 6.30 ± 0.20 µM), 4 (IC50 = 8.90 ± 0.10 µM), 6 (IC50 = 8.10 ± 0.20 µM), 7 (IC50 = 8.70 ± 0.10 µM), 8 (IC50 = 3.90 ± 0.30 µM), 9 (IC50 = 2.10 ± 0.20 µM), 10 (IC50 = 3.30 ± 0.20 µM) and 16 (IC50 = 8.90 ± 0.20 µM) exhibited the most influential activity. These compounds were subsequently examined using molecular docking experiments, which evaluate the binding interactions of ligands with enzyme active sites.

Alzheimer's dementia (AD), the most prevalent neurodegenerative disorder adversely affecting elderly citizens worldwide, is an incurable disorder with no effective medication found till date. Taking into account the seriousness of this issue, imidazopyridine-based benzothiazole-oxadiazole hybrid derivatives were synthesized as anti-Alzheimer's agents. The efficacy of these scaffolds was compared with the standard Donepezil (IC50 = 14.47 ± 1.20 μM for AChE and 19.90 ± 2.40 μM for BuChE). All the novel scaffolds exhibited biological activity covering a range of IC50 = 6.70 ± 1.65 μM and 41.65 ± 7.20 μM for AChE and 6.40 ± 1.80 μM for AChE and 44.65 ± 7.40 μM for BuChE. Analog 6p having IC50 = 6.70 ± 1.65 μM for AChE and 6.40 ± 1.80 μM for BuChE was found as the lead candidate of the series with maximum inhibition due to presence of small sized and highly electronegative fluoro moieties, inhibiting the enzymes through effective hydrogen bonds. These effective interactions were also studied in molecular docking investigations of the lead compounds. Furthermore, ADME analysis conducted in this study assisted the drug likeness of the potent analogs. Synthetic and structural confirmation of the hybrid derivatives was achieved through 13C NMR, 1H NMR and HREI-MS.

Background: The role of an optometrist as defined by the World Council of Optometry includes the management of ocular diseases. In 2015, the scope of optometry in South Africa was expanded to include ocular therapeutic drugs. To date approximately 27 optometrists have obtained full certification to exercise ocular therapeutic privileges. Aim: This study aimed to determine the interest, readiness, as well as challenges, of optometrists for the inclusion of ocular therapeutics into daily practice. Setting: The study was set in South Africa. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study design was employed. Convenience sampling was used to recruit 420 participants from a study population of optometrists registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa, with data collected using an online questionnaire hosted on social media platforms and distributed by professional organisations. Data were analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Science version 27. Results: The majority of respondents (73.3%) reported keenness for ocular therapeutics certification. While 75.7% of respondents had obtained diagnostics certification, only 9.5% were registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) with ocular therapeutics certification. Most (92.1%) respondents reported the required minimum of 600 h of clinical training as a major challenge to obtaining ocular therapeutics certification. Almost all (96.9%) of the respondents agreed that ocular therapeutics certification will improve provision of optimal eyecare. Conclusion: South African optometrists support and are personally interested in ocular therapeutics certification. However, while there is a preponderance of diagnostically qualified optometrists, very few are certified for ocular therapeutics with completion of the required clinical training for certification perceived as the greatest challenge. Contribution: This findings in this study highlight that, current requirements to support ocular therapeutics certification of South African optometrists should be reviewed to ensure an enabling environment for the completion of the clinical training.

It is well recognized that heterocyclic compounds have exceptional biomedical applications, which has led scientists to become increasingly interested in their use in this field in the recent past. It is the aim of this study, using a multistep method based on thiazolidinone derivative synthesis, to synthesize thiazolidinone derivatives derived from pyrazine molecules (1–12). As a result of analyzing 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and HREI-MS data, the structures of these derivatives were determined. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of these drugs was also determined alongside the donepezil (IC50 = 10.10 ± 0.10 µM) to determine their potential as anti-Alzheimer agents. Among the screened derivatives, 1 (IC50 = 4.10 ± 0.20 µM), 2 (IC50 = 2.20 ± 0.20 µM), 4 (IC50 = 2.30 ± 0.20 µM), 5 (IC50 = 5.80 ± 0.30 µM), 6 (IC50 = 6.30 ± 0.20 µM), 8 (IC50 = 5.20 ± 0.10 µM), 9 (IC50 = 5.20 ± 0.40 µM), 10 (IC50 = 8.30 ± 0.40 µM), and 11 (IC50 = 8.10 ± 0.70 µM) showed potent activity. In addition, the synthesized moieties were screened against E. coli to determine whether there were any antimicrobial properties. It was found that most of the compounds were more potent inhibitors of bacterial growth in comparison to streptomycin, the reference drug. There have been several molecular docking experiments conducted to gain a deeper understanding of how these compounds interact with the active sites of enzymes to gain a greater understanding of their functional mechanisms.

The study examines the significant factors affecting the capital structure decisions for banks’ in MENA region. An unbalanced panel data comprising of 132 banks operating in fifteen different countries of the MENA region from 2012 to 2017, data was extracted from Bank Scope resulting in 891 bank year observations. Macroeconomic indicators and institutional characteristics data has been taken from World Bank and World Bank governance indicators database and financial freedom data has been collected from heritage foundation. We use the two-step system Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) to explore the relationship between dependent and explanatory variables. The regression outcome between profitability and leverage shows a negative and significant relationship. No significant association between tangibility and leverage is found. Earnings volatility is negatively and significantly related to leverage. The relationship between growth and leverage is negative and significant. Macroeconomic indicators GDP growth and inflation show a positive relationship with leverage. Finally, the institutional factors, that is, government effectiveness, political stability, and rule of law have positive association with leverage. The study results will lend a hand to bank managers to make value-maximizing financing decisions to achieve an optimal capital structure. It will also help the policymakers to articulate an effective regulatory framework in the region. As per our knowledge, this is the first study to explore the determining factors of capital structure for banks operating in the MENA region. Moreover, the findings from MENA region banks could also support the comparative study with other regional blocks.

It is highly desirable and of utmost importance to find eco-friendly and green approaches for a sustainable environment. Nowadays researchers from different communities have determined that it is economical and highly demanding to synthesize green nanomaterials by utilizing plants, fruits, yeast, algae, fungi, and other green techniques as stabilizers and mediators. Compared to the chemical synthesis techniques, the plant-mediated approach is considered an eco-friendly, efficient, easy, stable, and cost-effective means for the synthesis of nanomaterials. Among various nano-size materials, Graphitic carbon nitride, g-C3N4, (CN) belongs to a new class of multifunctional metal-free n-type semiconductors. It has a polymeric structure with many potential applications in agriculture and energy sectors and other fields. So, it is highly demanding to explore the green synthesis approaches and their utilization for nanomaterials, especially g-C3N4. In this review, we comprehensively explored the green g-C3N4 based nanomaterials, their preparation, properties, applications, and opportunities. Adding more, this study aims to explore all feasible green synthesis approaches, applications, characterization techniques, and modification methods. Apart from this, the current statutes and future prospectus of the green g-C3N4 based nanomaterials are also explored. Finally, this work will open a new gateway for the synthesis of green g-C3N4 based nanomaterials and their utilization for a sustainable environment.

Thymidine phosphorylase (TP) is an angiogenic enzyme. It is crucial for the development, invasion and metastasis of tumors as well as angiogenesis. In our current research, we examine how structurally changing bis-thiadiazole bearing bis-schiff bases affects their ability to inhibit TP. Through the oxidative cyclization of pyridine-based bis-thiosemicarbazone with iodine, a series of fourteen analogs of bis-thiadiazole-based bis-imines with pyridine moiety were developed. Newly synthesized scaffolds were assessed in vitro for their thymidine phosphorylase inhibitory potential and showed moderate to good inhibition profile. Eleven scaffolds such as 4a-4d,4f-4 h and 4j-4 m were discovered to be more effective than standard drug at inhibiting the thymidine phosphorylase enzyme with IC50 values of 1.16 ± 1.20, 1.77 ± 1.10, 2.48 ± 1.30, 12.54 ± 1.60, 14.63 ± 1.70, 15.53 ± 1.80, 17.47 ± 1.70, 18.98 ± 1.70, 19.53 ± 1.50, 22.73 ± 2.40 and 24.87 ± 2.80 respectively, while remaining three analogs such as 4n, 4i and 4ewere found to be more potent, but they were less potent than the standard drug. All analogs underwent SAR studies based on the pattern of substitutions around the aryl part of the bis-thiadiazole skeleton. The most active analogs in the synthesized series were then molecular docking study performed to investigate their interactions of active part of enzyme. The results showed that remarkable interactions were exhibited by these analogs with the targeted enzymes active sites. Furthermore, to confirm the structure of synthesized analogs by employing spectroscopic tools such as HREI-MS and NMR.
