Abstract Background Chickpea is a key pulse crop grown in the spring in dryland regions. The cold resistance potential of chickpeas allows for the development of genotypes with varying sowing dates to take advantage of autumn and winter rainfall, particularly in dryland regions. In this study, we assessed grain yield, plant height, 100-seed weight, days to maturity, and days to flowering of 17 chickpea genotypes in five autumn-sown dryland regions from 2019 to 2021. Additionally, the response of selected chickpea genotypes to cold stress was examined at temperatures of -4 °C, 4 °C, and 22 °C by analyzing biochemical enzymes. Results Mixed linear model of ANOVA revealed a significant genotype × environment interaction for all traits measured, indicating varying reactions of genotypes across test environments. This study reported low estimates of broad-sense heritability for days to flowering (0.34), days to maturity (0.13), and grain yield (0.08). Plant height and seed weight exhibited the highest heritability, with genotypic selection accuracies of 0.73 and 0.92, respectively. Moreover, partial least square regression highlighted the impactful role of rainfall during all months except of October, November, and February on grain yield and its interaction with environments in autumn-planted chickpeas. Among the genotypes studied, G9, G10, and G17 emerged as superior based on stability parameters and grain yield. In particular, genotype G9 stood out as a promising genotype for dryland regions, considering both MTSI and genotype by yield*trait aproaches. The cold assay indicated that − 4 °C is crucial for distinguishing between susceptible and resistant genotypes. The results showed the important role of the enzymes CAT and GPX in contributing to the cold tolerance of genotype G9 in autumn-sown chickpeas. Conclusions Significant G×E for agro-morphological traits of chickpea shows prerequisite for multi-trial analysis. Chickpea`s direct root system cause that monthly rainfall during plant establishment has no critical role in its yield interaction with dryland environment. Considering the importance of agro-morphological traits and their direct and indirect effects on grain yield, the utilization of multiple-trait stability approches is propose. Evaluation of chickpea germplasm reaction against cold stress is necessary for autumn-sowing. Finally, autumn sowing of genotype FLIP 10–128 C in dryland conditions can led to significant crop performance.

Abstract Background Little leaf disease caused by phytoplasma infection is a significant threat to eggplant (also known as brinjal) cultivation in India. This study focused on the molecular characterisation of the phytoplasma strains and insect vectors responsible for its transmission and screening of brinjal germplasm for resistance to little leaf disease. Results Surveys conducted across districts in the Tamil Nadu state of India during 2021–2022 showed a higher incidence of phytoplasma during the Zaid (March to June), followed by Kharif (June to November) and Rabi (November to March) seasons with mean incidence ranging from 22 to 27%. As the name indicates, phytoplasma infection results in little leaf (reduction in leaf size), excessive growth of axillary shoots, virescence, phyllody, stunted growth, leaf chlorosis and witches’ broom symptoms. PCR amplification with phytoplasma-specific primers confirmed the presence of this pathogen in all symptomatic brinjal plants and in Hishimonus phycitis (leafhopper), providing valuable insights into the role of leafhoppers in disease transmission. BLAST search and phylogenetic analysis revealed the phytoplasma strain as “Candidatus Phytoplasma trifolii”. Insect population and disease dynamics are highly influenced by environmental factors such as temperature, relative humidity and rainfall. Further, the evaluation of 22 eggplant accessions revealed immune to highly susceptible responses where over 50% of the entries were highly susceptible. Finally, additive main effect and multiplicative interaction (AMMI) and won-where biplot analyses identified G18 as a best-performing accession for little leaf resistance due to its consistent responses across multiple environments. Conclusions This research contributes essential information on little leaf incidence, symptoms, transmission and resistance profiles of different brinjal genotypes, which together ensure effective and sustainable management of this important disease of eggplants.

ABSTRACT To evaluate performance stability for 13 lentil genotypes, experiments were performed at three locations, Ardebil, Zanjan, and Maragheh, during three growing seasons (2011–2013). Environment, genotype, and interaction of genotype × environment were significantly effective on 100‐seed weight, plant height, number of days to flowering, number of days to maturity, rate of seed filling, and single seed weight. Nominal grain yield biplot identified stability of 2, 12, 1, 3, and 6 genotypes with regard to grain yield. According to biplot analysis, Genotypes 1, 3, and 10 not only produced the highest grain yield but also showed the greatest stability in yield production. Genotypes 1, 6, 7, and 13 were identified as highly stable and productive based on grain yield, mean weight stability index, and weighted average of absolute scores of best linear unbiased predictions (WAASB). Genotypes 1 and 7 were best genotypes according to multitrait stability index (MTSI). Harmonic mean of the relative performance of genotypic predicted value (HMRPGV) recognized Genotypes 6, 1, 5, and 3 as highly stable, productive, and adaptable genotypes. In general, Genotype 1 indicated highest grain yield and desirable agronomic traits compared to other genotypes tested, suggesting this genotype as new cultivar.

This paper intends to provide a better understanding of how these models produce predictions, particularly in complex medical diagnoses, and at the same time bridging the gap between technical model outputs and clinical applications. This study addresses the critical problem of transparency of machine learning (ML) models in health care where interpretability is an essential aspect for ethical decision making and trust building.The goal of this paper is to present a clearer understanding of how these models generate predictions, especially in important fields like complex medical diagnoses, thereby bridging the gap between technical model outputs and clinical applications. The crucial issue of transparency in machine learning (ML) models within healthcare is addressed in this study where interpretability plays a vital role in ethical decision-making and fostering trust. The focus of the research is enhancing model transparency by using SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) and Deep Learning Important FeaTures (DeepLIFT), two crucial methods that are designed to elucidate the decision-making processes of ML models.This mode of approach helps to have more distributed comprehension of the decision pathways by models thus aiding in knowing how each feature contributed to the last prediction. It is this method that has been employed to showcase the efficiency of predicting melanoma and also diabetic retinopathy which are two vital medical diagnostic areas. In healthcare, SHAP along with DeepLIFT has improved the models’ explainability and trustworthiness significantly and hence making them easy for those in the field. The advanced interpretability methods presented in this document enhances ML model transparency especially when dealing with health issues. As a result, interpretability becomes an even bigger issue and they are supposed to be able to use these tools for reliable and open decisions when it comes to medical specialists.

In an attempt to reduce the consumption of natural resources, much research has focused on the development of mix designs with waste aggregates. While this research has demonstrated feasibility, investigations into the broader mechanical properties of concrete with various types of waste aggregates have been limited. To this end, this paper studies a wide variety of concrete properties with plastic, rubber, slag, glass and recycled concrete aggregates by analysing a large database of 5321 concrete mixes. The effects of waste aggregate type and replacement ratio on mechanical properties, workability and durability are investigated and relationships between the mechanical properties of concrete with various types of waste aggregates are quantified and compared to the existing design codes. The findings from this study can be used to assist in identifying optimum waste aggregate type and replacement ratio based on intended use and the databases compiled will assist in future data-driven modelling approaches.

Abstract Background The prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) in the North Africa and Middle East region is alarmingly high, prompting us to investigate the burden and factors contributing to it through the GBD study. Additionally, there is a lack of knowledge about the epidemiological status of T2DM in this region, so our aim is to provide a comprehensive overview of the burden of T2DM and its associated risk factors. Methods Using data from the 2019 Global Burden of Disease Study, we calculated the attributable burden of T2DM for each of the 21 countries in the region for the years 1990 and 2019. This included prevalence, mortality, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), and risk factors. Results Between 1990 and 2019, there was a significant increase in the age-standardized incidence (79.6%; 95% Uncertainty Interval: 75.0 to 84.5) and prevalence (85.5%; [80.8 to 90.3]) rates of T2DM per 100,000 populations. The age-standardized mortality rate (1.7%; [-10.4 to 14.9]), DALYs (31.2%; [18.3 to 42.2]), and years lived with disability (YLDs) (82.6%; [77.2 to 88.1]) also increased during this period. Modifiable risk factors, such as high body mass index (56.4%; [42.8 to 69.8]), low physical activity (15.5%; [9.0 to 22.8]), and ambient particulate matter pollution (20.9%; [15.2 to 26.2]), were the main contributors to the number of deaths. Conclusion The burden of T2DM, in terms of mortality, DALYs, and YLDs, continues to rise in the region. The incidence rate of T2DM has increased in many areas. The burden of T2DM attributed to modifiable risk factors continues to grow in most countries. Targeting these modifiable risk factors could effectively reduce the growth and disease burden of T2DM in the region.

Objectives: Women with endometriosis have a high risk of developing ovarian carcinoma that may occur due to endometriosis lesions. There is few research have so far focused on the clinical factors in patients with endometriosis-associated ovarian cancer (EAOC). Accordingly, this study aimed at comparing the demographic and obstetric characteristics between ovarian cancer with and without endometriosis Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 20 EAOC patients and 140 non-EAOC individuals who had gone under surgery from 2011-17 at Al-Zahra hospital. Clinico-pathological characteristics of the two groups including first group only had malignant epithelial ovarian tumor (non-EAOC) and second group had both malignant epithelial ovarian tumor and endometriosis (EAOC). P value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: EAOC cases were significantly younger (P=0.002) and had lower number of pregnancy (P=0.002), parity (P=0.004), and term pregnancy (P=0.005) than non-EAOC patients. Abstract Background Patients with autoimmune and immune-mediated diseases (AI-IMD) are at greater risk of COVID-19 infection; therefore, they should be prioritized in vaccination programs. However, there are concerns regarding the safety of COVID-19 vaccines in terms of disease relapse, flare, or exacerbation. In this study, we aimed to provide a more precise and reliable vision using systematic review and meta-analysis. Methods PubMed-MEDLINE, Embase, and Web of Science were searched for original articles reporting the relapse/flare in adult patients with AI-IMD between June 1, 2020 and September 25, 2022. Subgroup analysis and sensitivity analysis were conducted to investigate the sources of heterogeneity. Statistical analysis was performed using R software. Results A total of 134 observations of various AI-IMDs across 74 studies assessed the rate of relapse, flare, or exacerbation in AI-IMD patients. Accordingly, the crude overall prevalence of relapse, flare, or exacerbation was 6.28% (95% CI [4.78%; 7.95%], I 2 = 97.6%), changing from 6.28% (I 2 = 97.6%) to 6.24% (I 2 = 65.1%) after removing the outliers. AI-IMD patients administering mRNA, vector-based, and inactive vaccines showed 8.13% ([5.6%; 11.03%], I 2 = 98.1%), 0.32% ([0.0%; 4.03%], I 2 = 93.5%), and 3.07% ([1.09%; 5.9%], I 2 = 96.2%) relapse, flare, or exacerbation, respectively (p-value = 0.0086). ABSTRACT A combination of the two methods of stability analysis, the additive main effect and multiplicative interaction (AMMI) and the best linear unbiased prediction (BLUP), based on weighted average of stability (WAASB) estimated by the linear mixed models (LMM) index identified the improved genotypes. In this study, 17 advanced genotypes of lentil were studied at two locations, Zanjan and Maragheh, during the two seasons. To examine the genotype × environment interaction, the AMMI and BLUP methods using the WAASB and weighted average of mean performance (WAASBY) index were combined to evaluate the performance stability of genotypes according to different experimental plots. Considering the significant genotype × environment interaction based on likelihood ratio test (LRT), data were analyzed by the BLUP method. The highest grain yield was detected for genotype 13, followed by genotypes 7, 11, 20, 5, 12, and 19 with higher productivity than the grand mean. To select genotypes according to yield and stability, the WAASBY index was defined by combining mean grain yield and stability. Considering 50:50 contributions for the two components, the grain yield and stability of the 13 genotypes were higher than the grand mean. The highest WAASBY was observed for genotypes 7, 20, and 12, which were determined as the best genotypes of lentil under agroecological conditions encountered in the current study regions.

Abstract Objectives Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) are a group of clinical conditions involving muscles of mastication, temporomandibular joint (TMJ), and related structures or both. TMD is characterized by facial pain in TMJ and muscles of mastication, limitation or deviation of jaw movement, and TMJ sounds during jaw movement and function. The highest risk of TMD prevalence is between 18 and 24 years, and a relationship is between chronic TMD and psychological disorders such as stress and depression. The knowledge of the function of this joint and those with TMD symptoms when visiting the dentist will help to provide an ideal treatment plan for the patient. Therefore, if the therapist is familiar with the various etiological factors of this disorder, he will provide better treatment, especially if the simultaneous effect of psychological factors such as stress and obsessive‐compulsive disorder (OCD) along with occlusal factors such as posterior cross‐bite, overjet, and overbite is measured, it can be a valuable guide for clinicians. Methods and Materials In this study, 385 patients were examined by DASS42 and Maudsley's test and classified into normal, with stress, and stress plus OCD groups. TMJ was examined for each of them by the TMD‐RDC test. The presence or absence of TMD was noted in their file. Results The prevalence of TMD was 20.7% in the normal group, 30.70% in the stress group, and 44.68% in the stress and OCD group. After analyzing the data by SPSS 24 and performing analysis of variance and Duncan tests, no significant difference was found between the probability of TMD in normal and stressed groups, but the stress and OCD group has a higher chance of TMD. Conclusion Although the co‐occurrence of stress and OCD is associated with the prevalence of TMD, it cannot be considered a cause of TMD.

Abstract Background A heavy financial burden is imposed on patients suffering from chronic diseases due to medicine out-of-pocket payments. Objectives This study focuses on assessing the affordability of medications used for chronic respiratory diseases (CRDs) such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and cystic fibrosis (CF) in Iran, specifically on the category R medicines listed in the 2017 Iran drug list (IDL) that are used for the treatment of these diseases, based on the anatomical therapeutic chemical (ATC) drug code. Methods The affordability of medicines in mono and combination therapy approaches was assessed in CRDs using the World Health Organization/Health Action International (WHO/HAI) methodology. Accordingly, if out-of-pocket payment for 30-days of pharmacotherapy exceeds one day for the lowest-paid unskilled government worker (LPGW), it’s considered non-affordable. Results Based on the monotherapy approach, our finding demonstrates that all generic medicines of category R were affordable. However, branded drugs such as Symbicort®, Pulmicort Respules®, Flusalmex®, Seretide®, Fluticort Plus®, Seroflo®, and Salmeflo® cost between 1.2 and 2.5 days’ wage of LPGW and considered unaffordable despite 70% insurance coverage. Moreover, based on the affordability ratio in the combination therapy approach, all medicines used in asthma, COPD, and CF patients with mild respiratory problems are affordable except omalizumab (inj), which is non-affordable due to its high price and no insurance coverage. Conclusion Results showed that the existing insurance coverage does not protect households from hardship, so more considerations are needed such as different insurance schedules and patient support programs.

Chemical excipients used in topical formulations may be toxic to living skin cells. Here, we compared the in vitro toxicity of some common solubilizing excipients against human melanoma cells, human keratinocytes (HaCaT) and primary skin fibroblasts (FB) as examples of cancerous, immortalized and primary human skin cells, often used as experimental models representative of in vivo conditions. Two distinct endpoint assays (3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) and crystal violet (CV)) were used. The mechanism of cell death after excipient exposure was assessed through Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) production, cell membrane integrity and cell cycle progression. Results showed that the surfactants, Labrasol®, Labrafil® and Transcutol®, were less toxic than Triton X-100 (a model irritant) in all cell types whereas the oil, Labrafac®, was non-toxic. The human melanoma WM164 cell line showed the greatest sensitivity toward cytotoxicity after chemical exposure, while the other cell lines were more resistant. The relative excipient cytotoxicity responses observed in the MTT and CV assays were comparable and similar trends were seen in their estimated 50 % inhibitory concentration (IC50) values. DNA fragmentation by flow cytometry after exposing the cells to IC50 concentrations of the excipients showed negligible apoptotic populations. ROS production was increased in all cell types after toxic exposure; however, ROS elevation did not lead to apoptosis. The toxicity profiles of each excipient are not only relevant to their use in formulating safe topical products but also in the potential synergistic efficacy in the topical treatment of melanoma.

Background and purpose: Inflammation plays an important role in the development of neuropathic pain (NP). Considering the anti-inflammatory effects of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and their conditioned medium (CM), we aimed to investigate the effect of MSC-CM on the expression of CCL3 and CCL4 genes in the spinal cord of rats with NP. Materials and methods: In this experimental-interventional study, 28 male Wistar rats weighing 200-300 grams were included. NP was induced in male rats using the chronic constriction injury (CCI) model of the sciatic nerve. MSCs-CM was injected intraperitoneally (1ml) into each rat in the experimental group one day before surgery (-1), and 7 and 11 days after the surgery, while the rats of control group received DMEM. Abstract Background Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA), as a rare malignancy of the biliary tree, has a poor prognosis most of the time. CCA is highly epigenetically regulated and several long non‐coding RNAs (lncRNA) have been investigated to have a diagnostic and prognostic role in CCA. The current study aimed to assess the studies finding relevant lncRNAs in CCA systematically. Methods International databases, including PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Embase, were comprehensively searched in order to identify studies investigating any lncRNA in CCA. After screening by title/abstract and full‐text, necessary data were extracted. Random‐effect meta‐analysis was performed for pooling the areas under the curve (AUCs), specificity, and sensitivity of lncRNAs for the diagnosis of CCA. Results A total of 33 studies were chosen to be included in the final analysis, comprised of 2677 patients. Background. Psoriasis is a noncontagious auto-inflammatory chronic skin disease. So far, some of the inflammatory genes were upregulated in mouse model of psoriasis. This study examined changes in skin mRNA expression of L-kynureninase (Kynu), cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide (Camp), beta-defensin 2 (Defb2), and proenkephalin (Penk) in a mouse model of imiquimod-induced psoriasis. Materials and Methods. Tree groups of C57BL/6 female mice were allocated. The imiquimod (IMQ) cream was administered to the mice dorsal skin of the two groups to induce psoriatic inflammation. In the treatment group, IMQ was administered 10 min after hydrogel-containing M7 anti-IL-17A aptamer treatment. Vaseline (Vas) was administered to the negative control group. The psoriatic skin lesions were evaluated based on the psoriasis area severity index (PASI) score, histopathology, and mRNA expression levels of Kynu, Camp, Defb2, and Penk using real-time PCR. In order to assess the systemic response, the spleen and lymph node indexes were also evaluated. Results. The PASI and epidermal thickness scores were 6.01 and 1.96, respectively, in the IMQ group, and they significantly decreased after aptamer administration to 1.15 and 0.90, respectively (P0.05). Background The North Africa and Middle East (NAME) region has one of the highest burdens of ischemic heart disease (IHD) worldwide. This study reports the contemporary epidemiology of IHD in NAME. Methods and Results We estimated the incidence, prevalence, deaths, years of life lost, years lived with disability, disability‐adjusted life years (DALYs), and premature mortality of IHD, and its attributable risk factors in NAME from 1990 to 2019 using the results of the GBD (Global Burden of Disease study 2019). In 2019, 0.8 million lives and 18.0 million DALYs were lost due to IHD in NAME. From 1990 to 2019, the age‐standardized DALY rate of IHD significantly decreased by 33.3%, mostly due to the reduction of years of life lost rather than years lived with disability. In 2019, the proportion of premature death attributable to IHD was higher in NAME compared with global measures: 26.8% versus 16.9% for women and 18.4% versus 14.8% for men, respectively. The age‐standardized DALY rate of IHD attributed to metabolic risks, behavioral risks, and environmental/occupational risks significantly decreased by 28.7%, 37.8%, and 36.4%, respectively. Dietary risk factors, high systolic blood pressure, and high low‐density lipoprotein cholesterol were the top 3 risks contributing to the IHD burden in most countries of NAME in 2019. Conclusions In 2019, IHD was the leading cause of death and lost DALYs in NAME, where premature death due to IHD was greater than the global average. Despite the great reduction in the age‐standardized DALYs of IHD in NAME from 1990 to 2019, this region still had the second‐highest burden of IHD in 2019 globally.

Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is a leading cause of morbidity. Management of AD has traditionally been aimed at symptom relief rather than disease modification. Recently, AD research has begun to shift focus towards disease-modifying therapies that can alter the progression of AD. In this context, a class of immunotherapy agents known as monoclonal antibodies target diverse cerebral amyloid-beta (Aβ) epitopes to inhibit disease progression. Aducanumab was authorized by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat AD on June 7, 2021. Aducanumab has shown promising clinical and biomarker efficacy but is associated with amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIA). Neuroradiologists play a critical role in diagnosing ARIA, necessitating familiarity with this condition. This pictorial review will appraise the radiologic presentation of ARIA in patients on aducanumab.

Background: We aimed to document the current state of exposure to low bone mineral density (BMD) and trends in attributable burdens between 2000 and 2019 globally and in different World Health Organization (WHO) regions using the Glob al Burden of Disease (GBD) study 2019. Methods: We reviewed the sex-region-specific summary exposure value (SEV) of low BMD and the all-ages numbers and age-standardized rates of disabili ty-adjusted life years (DALYs), years lived with disability (YLDs), years of life lost (YLLs), and deaths attributed to low BMD. We compared different WHO regions (Africa, the Easte rn Mediterranean Region, Europe, Region of the Americas, Southeast Asia, and Wes tern Pacific), age categories, and sexes according to the estimates of the GBD 2019 report. Results: The global age-standardized SEV of low BMD is estimated to be 2 0.7% in women and 11.3% in men in 2019. Among the WHO regions, Africa had the highest age-standardized SEV of low BMD in women (28.8% (95% uncertainty in terval 22.0–36.3)) and men (16.8% (11.5–23.8)). The lowest SEV was observed in Europe in both women (14.7% (9.9–21.0)) and men (8.0% (4.3–13.4)). An improving trend in th e global rate of DALY, death, and YLL was observed during 2000–2019 (−5.7%, −4.7%, and −11.9% change, respectively); however, the absolute numbers increased with the highest increase observed in global YLD (70.9%) and death numbers (67.6%). South east Asia Region had the highest age-standardized rates of DALY (303.4 (249.2–357.2) ), death (10.6 (8.5–12.3)), YLD (133.5 (96.9–177.3)), and YLL (170.0 (139–197.7)). Conclusions: Overall, the highest-burden attributed to low BMD was observed in the Southeast Asia Region. Knowledge of the SEV of low BMD and the attributed burden can increase the awareness of healthcare decision-makers to adopt appropriate strategies for early screening, and also strategies to prevent falls and fragility fractures and their consequent morbidity and mortality.

Anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK)-positive histiocytosis is an uncommon condition, recently considered a separate condition from other histiocytosis by WHO 5th edition. It can involve intracranial structures. This manuscript describes a case of ALK-positive histiocytosis of the cavernous sinus, focusing on the radiologic and pathologic presentation of the entity. Our case had MRI manifestations mimicking meningioma, metastasis, and Langerhans histiocytosis. On CT imaging, benign osseous remodeling of the cavernous sinus was detected, which can be helpful in differentiating it from more common meningioma.
