The development of chemoresistance which results in a poor prognosis often renders current treatments for colorectal cancer (CRC). In this study, we identified reduced microvessel density (MVD) and vascular immaturity resulting from endothelial apoptosis as therapeutic targets for overcoming chemoresistance. We focused on the effect of metformin on MVD, vascular maturity, and endothelial apoptosis of CRCs with a non-angiogenic phenotype, and further investigated its effect in overcoming chemoresistance. In situ transplanted cancer models were established to compare MVD, endothelial apoptosis and vascular maturity, and function in tumors from metformin- and vehicle-treated mice. An in vitro co-culture system was used to observe the effects of metformin on tumor cell-induced endothelial apoptosis. Transcriptome sequencing was performed for genetic screening. Non-angiogenic CRC developed independently of angiogenesis and was characterized by vascular leakage, immaturity, reduced MVD, and non-hypoxia. This phenomenon had also been observed in human CRC. Furthermore, non-angiogenic CRCs showed a worse response to chemotherapeutic drugs in vivo than in vitro. By suppressing endothelial apoptosis, metformin sensitized non-angiogenic CRCs to chemo-drugs via elevation of MVD and improvement of vascular maturity. Further results showed that endothelial apoptosis was induced by tumor cells via activation of caspase signaling, which was abrogated by metformin administration. These findings provide pre-clinical evidence for the involvement of endothelial apoptosis and subsequent vascular immaturity in the chemoresistance of non-angiogenic CRC. By suppressing endothelial apoptosis, metformin restores vascular maturity and function and sensitizes CRC to chemotherapeutic drugs via a vascular mechanism.

Macrophages are essential for supporting tissue homeostasis, regulating immune response, and promoting tumor progression. Due to its heterogeneity, macrophages have different phenotypes and functions in various tissues and diseases. It is becoming clear that epigenetic modification playing an essential role in determining the biological behavior of cells. In particular, changes of DNA methylation, histone methylation and acetylation regulated by the corresponding epigenetic enzymes, can directly control macrophages differentiation and change their functions under different conditions. In addition, epigenetic enzymes also have become anti-tumor targets, such as HDAC, LSD1, DNMT, and so on. In this review, we presented an overview of the latest progress in the study of macrophages phenotype and function regulated by epigenetic modifications, including DNA methylation and histone modifications, to better understand how epigenetic modification controls macrophages phenotype and function in inflammation-associated diseases, and the application prospect in anti-tumor.

Fangji Huangqi Decoction (FHD) is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). FHD has been hypothesized to inhibit the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) process, which may positively impact breast cancer prevention and treatment. However, its exact mechanism of action is still unknown.This study aimed to screen potential targets of FHD for the treatment of EMT in breast cancer through network pharmacology, and to verify their therapeutic effects in vitro experiments and high-throughput second-generation sequencing.The data sets of effective components and targets of FHD were established through the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology database. The GeneCards and OMIM databases were used to establish breast cancer-related target datasets, which were then matched with the TCM target data. The interaction between key target proteins was analyzed using the STRING database; the gene ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) databases were used to identify the associated biological processes and enriched signal pathways, respectively. The active ingredient disease target network was analyzed using Cytoscape. Finally, next generation sequencing was used to verify the related pathways of FHD intervention in EMT in breast cancer. High-content screening was used to identify the genes/pathways affected by FHD. MDA-MB-231 and HCC-1937 breast cancer cell lines were used to evaluate the impact of FHD on migration, invasion, and EMT.Eighty possible significant targets were identified for the treatment of breast cancer EMT with FHD; GO and KEGG were used to identify 173 cell biological processes associated with breast cancer (P 0.05), including the NF-κB and PI3K-Akt signaling pathways. The high-throughput sequencing and network pharmacology results were highly consistent. The migration and invasion ability of MDA-MB-231 cells was reduced and their EMT status could be reversed by DSHR2 knockdown. The results of morphology and scratch assays showed that FHD could improve the EMT status of HCC-1973.This study provides more evidence to support the clinical application of FHD, which has reliable interventional effects on breast cancer EMT. Its therapeutic effects may involve a multi-target, multi-pathway, and multi-mechanism effect.

Entanglement transmission is utilized widely in quantum communication. In this paper we establish a model, which characterizes the performance of entanglement state passing through the composite free space channel. This free space channel is compounded with atmosphere, sea surface and underwater channel. Based on the model, the entanglement photon pairs transmitted through composite channel are simulated. Simulation results show that the beam wandering, the incident angle of the beam on the sea surface, the concentration of chlorophyll in the seawater and other factors will lead to the degradation of the entanglement and these factors have a nonlinear relationship with transmittance. Moreover, the increase of the chlorophyll concentration is found to be a relatively heavy impact on the entanglement. In addition, expanding the aperture size of the receiving telescope will improve entanglement. The research of this paper has momentous meaning to the transmission of quantum entanglement in free space. What’s more, the results have an extremely vital reference value for quantum communications in diverse natural environments.

From the perspective of β-amyloid (Aβ) toxicity and synaptic plasticity, the mechanism of electroacupuncture to improve learning and memory ability in the early pathological stages of Alzheimer's disease was explored.Twelve male amyloid-protein precursor (APP)/γ-secretase (PS1) double transgenic AD mice were randomly and equally divided into electroacupuncture (EA) group and model group, and other 6 male C57BL/6 mice were used as the normal group. EA (1 Hz/50 Hz, 0.5 mA) was applied to "Baihui" (GV20) and bilateral "Yongquan"(KI1) for 15 min, once every other day for 6 weeks. Immunofluorescence was used to observe the positive expression of Aβ in the left hippocampus. Immunohistochemistry was used to observe the positive expression of postsynaptic density-95 (PSD-95) in the left hippocampus. Western blot was used to detect the expression of PSD-95 and synaptophysin (SYN)in the right hippocampus.Immunofluorescence results showed that extracellular Aβ was seen in the model group and electroacupuncture group, but no senile plaques were seen. Compared with the normal group, the expression level of Aβ in the hippocampus of the model group increased significantly (EA can reduce the expression of Aβ in the hippocampus of APP/PS1 mice and increase the expression of PSD-95 and SYN, which may contribute to its effect in improving the synaptic plasticity.

The effects of sea salt concluded in oceanic atmosphere are ubiquitous in practical wireless optical links. Here a shore-to-reef atmospheric continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CVQKD) model is established on the basis of Mie scattering theory, with the aim to characterize the complex case of beam propagation in the atmosphere caused by sea salt particles. The effects on performance of shore-to-reef atmospheric CVQKD under the sea salt particles and relative humidity are also studied. Simulation results show that the increase of particle radius and relative humidity will lead to the degeneration of secret key rate. Extending the channel distance also reduces the secret key rate. This paper provides a basis for the establishment of practical shore-to-reef atmospheric CVQKD model. The research of this paper also gives momentous reference for the study of optical communication channel models with other suspended particles over the ocean.

A subchronic toxicity study were conducted in Wistar Han RCC rats to evaluate the potential health effects of genetically modified (GM), drought-tolerant wheat MGX11-10. Rats were fed a rodent diet formulated with MGX11-10 and were compared with rats fed a diet formulated with its corresponding non-transgenic control Jimai22 and rats fed a basal diet. MGX11-10 and Jimai22 were ground into flour and formulated into diets at concentrations of 16.25, 32.5, or 65%, w/w% and fed to rats (10/sex/group) for 13 weeks. Compared with rats fed Jimai22 and the basal-diet group, no biologically relevant differences were observed in rats fed the GM diet with respect to body weight/gain, food consumption/efficiency, clinical signs, mortality, ophthalmology, clinical pathology (hematology, prothrombin time, urinalysis, clinical chemistry), organ weights, and gross and microscopic pathology. Under the conditions of this study, the MGX11-10 diets did not cause any treatment-related effects in rats following at least 90 days of dietary administration as compared with rats fed diets with the corresponding non-transgenic control diet and the basal-diet group. The MGX11-10 diets are considered equivalent to the diets prepared from conventional comparators. The results demonstrated that MGX11-10 wheat is as safe and wholesome as the corresponding non-transgenic control wheat.

The aim of this study is to provide a sound support design for a large-scale underground water-sealed oil storage facility in China. The lithology of this study area consists of reddish-gray, medium-coarse grained granites interpenetrated by diabase, amphibole dioritic porphyrite and aplite. In order to obtain the geotechnical properties of intact rocks and rock masses, detailed field and laboratory studies were carried out. Rock masses at three sites were characterized in terms of Rock Mass Rating (RMR), Rock Mass Quality ( Q -system) and Geological Strength Index (GSI), and then rock mass properties of underground caverns were estimated, accordingly. The support systems obtained from empirical methods were analyzed using FLAC3D commercial software considering the effect of the water curtain system. The maximum thickness of plastic zones and the maximum total displacement occurred around underground caverns after installing the support systems suggested by the empirical methods were compared to the unsupported case. The results show that more reliable support design could be obtained by using both empirical rock mass classifications and numerical analysis method.

Ovulatory dysfunction refers to absent ovulation or luteal insufficiency. It is commonly seen in women with irregular menstruation or menstrual cycles, especially in those with oligomenorrhea or amenorrhea. Ovulatory dysfunction is considered the single-most frequent cause of female infertility. Clinically, the two major causes of ovulatory dysfunction are polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) and luteinized unruptured follicle syndrome (LUFS). Acupuncture-moxibustion improves ovulation and helps with infertility. Through a systematic review and analysis on relevant literatures in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture-moxibustion Databank over the last decade, this paper summarized the characteristics and pattern of acupuncture-moxibustion points for improving ovulation in order to provide an optimal acupuncture-moxibustion protocol in this regard.

Targeted therapy for acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is an effective strategy, but currently there are very limited therapeutic targets for AML treatment. Histone lysine specific demethylase 1 (LSD1) is highly expressed in many cancers, impedes the differentiation of cancer cells, promotes the proliferation, metastasis and invasion of cancer cells, and is associated with poor prognosis. Targeting LSD1 has been recognized as a promising strategy for AML treatment in recent years. Based on these features, in the review, we discussed the main epigenetic drugs targeting LSD1 for AML therapy. Thus, this review focuses on the progress of LSD1 inhibitors in AML treatment, particularly those such as tranylcypromine (TCP), ORY-1001, GSK2879552, and IMG-7289 in clinical trials. These inhibitors provide novel scaffolds for designing new LSD1 inhibitors. Besides, combined therapies of LSD1 inhibitors with other drugs for AML treatment are also highlighted.

Lower heart rate variability (HRV) is known to make patients more susceptible to tachycardia and possibly sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP). The heart rate (HR) at which tachycardia is present may vary by age. To date, no study has been done comparing adult and child seizures at different time points. The purpose of this study was to compare the frequency of HR changes with ictal tachycardia (IT) seizures at different time points in adults versus children. We retrospectively assessed the changes in the HR of 99 IT seizures in children and 96 IT seizures in adults. The difference between adults and children in gender, hemispheric lateralization or sleep/wakefulness, or seizure type on the HR changes and the difference between children and adults during 10 s preictal, ictal onset, and ictal and 60 s postictal were separately assessed. The HR difference and maximum HR increase with aging in children. The seizure duration in adults lasted longer as compared with that in children. There are higher HR at different points and HR difference at 10 s preictal as compared to baseline in children. The study illustrates that age and duration were respectively related to HR differences distinguishing children from adults. There may be an age-related effect of HR changes associated with seizures, with higher HR at different times and HR difference at 10 s before seizure onset as compared to baseline in children, which might explain that children are more likely to predict epileptic seizures than adults, contributing to subclinical seizures and treatment efficiency in refractory patients.

Migraine is a disabling neurovascular disorder, which increases risk of cardiovascular events and is a social burden worldwide. The present first-line anti-migraine medications can cause overwhelming side-effects, of which one includes the onset of cardiovascular disease. As one of the marketed Tibetan drugs, Ru-yi-Zhen-bao Pills (RYZBP) have been clinically used to treat cardiovascular disorders and as anti-migraine medication. However, there is currently no research exploring the anti-migraine actions of RYZBP.The current research was designed to assess the anti-migraine roles of RYZBP and explore the underlying mechanisms in a nitroglycerin (NTG)-induced migraine rat model trial.120 rats were randomly divided into the following six groups of 20 rats each: normal control group, model control group, positive control group, and RYZBP high/medium/low-dose groups (Ru-yi-Zhen-bao Pills; TH 1.00 g/kg, TM 0.50 g/kg and TL 0.25 g/kg). All rats were administered intragastrically for 7 consecutive days, which were subcutaneously injected with the NTG (10 mg/kg) after the last gavage (except in the normal control group). 3min after NTG treatment, 30 rats (5 rats from each group) were anesthetized and devoted to electroencephalogram(EEG) testing, which was used to evaluate the analgesic effect of RYZBP. One hour after NTG treatment, the rest of the 90 rats (15 rats from each group) were anesthetized and midbrain tissue sample was dissected. The dissection was then washed with physiological saline and collected. The histopathological changes in the periaqueductal gray(PAG) of 5 tissue samples were determined by aematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining, as well as an estimation of substance P (SP) and neurokinin 1 receptor (NK1R) expression through immunohistochemically staining(IHC). Another 5 midbrain preparations were carried out to evaluate calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), proenkephalin (PENK), SP, and cholecystokinin (CCK) expressions by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). The rest of the 5 brainstem tissues were then used to measure CCK, CGRP, and opioid peptide receptor (DORR) levels by western blotting(WB).In the EEG test, RYZBP (TM 0.50 g / kg) treatment transformed the EEG pain-wave of the NTG-induced migraine model rats in different time period. In the mechanism assay, compared with the model control group, RYZBP pretreatment reduced inflammatory cell infiltration, fibrosis and vacuolation of neuronal cells of PAG tissue seen by HE staining. IHC experiments further showed that RYZBPTM up-regulated SP expression levels and enhanced NK1R levels in the NTG-induced migraine rats (P 0.05). Therapeutic administration of RYZBP also increased PENK mRNA expression and DORR protein level. Both RT-qPCR and western blotting trials indicated that RYZBP treatment significantly decreased CCK and CGRP expression levels (P 0.01 or P 0.05) in the NTG-induced migraine rats.RYZBP has the potential to be an effective anti-migraine treatment through suppressing the EEG pain-wave, increasing the levels of SP, PENK, DORR and reducing expression of CCK and CGRP. Mediating the PAG anti-nociceptive channel and inhibiting central sensitization were the two potential mechanisms, which offers further evidence for clinical therapy.

The effects of weather conditions are ubiquitous in practical wireless quantum communication links. Here in this work, the performances of atmospheric continuous-variable measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution (CV-MDI-QKD) under diverse weather conditions are analyzed quantitatively. According to the Mie scattering theory and atmospheric CV-MDI-QKD model, we numerically simulate the relationship between performance of CV-MDI-QKD and the rainy and foggy conditions, aiming to get close to the actual combat environment in the future. The results show that both rain and fog will degrade the performance of the CV-MDI-QKD protocol. Under the rainy condition, the larger the raindrop diameter, the more obvious the extinction effect is and the lower the secret key rate accordingly. In addition, we find that the secret key rate decreases with the increase of spot deflection distance and the fluctuation of deflection. Under the foggy condition, the results illustrate that the transmittance decreases with the increase of droplet radius or deflection distance, which eventually yields the decrease in the secret key rate. Besides, in both weather conditions, the increase of transmission distance also leads the secret key rate to deteriorate. Our work can provide a foundation for evaluating the performance evaluation and successfully implementing the atmospheric CV-MDI-QKD in the future field operation environment under different weather conditions.

Objective: The study objective was to observe the effect of Dachaihu decoction and its “prescription elements” on intestinal flora of model rats with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Materials and Methods: Healthy male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into the following seven groups (n = 105): normal, model, pioglitazone hydrochloride (PH), Shuganlidan, Jianpihuatan, Tongfuxiezhuo, and dachaihu decoction (DD). 16SrRNA high-throughput IIlumina sequencing platform was used for sequencing, and bioinformatics analysis of rat intestinal flora was done. Results: Compared with the normal group, rats in the model, PH, Shuganlidan, Jianpihuatan, Tongfuxiezhuo, and DD groups showed significant differences in the intestinal microflora structure. The microorganisms that play an important role in the normal group are Ruminococcaceae, Oscillospira, Lactobacillales, Lactobacillaceae, Lactobacillus, bacilli, Ruminococcus, TM7, Spirochaetes, Clostridium, Elusimicrobia, Elusimicrobiaceae, Elusimicrobiales, Lactobacillus helveticus, Lactobacillus reuteri, Elusimicrobium, RF39, and Christensenellaceae; in the model group are Ruminococcus gnavus; in the PH group are Prevotella, Paraprevotellaceae, and Blautia; in the Jianpihuatan group are Bacteroidetes, Bacteroidia, Bacteroidales, Roseburia, Rikenellaceae, and Stridium methylpentosum; in the TongfuXiezhuo group are Bacteroidaceae, Bacteroides, Porphyromonadaceae, Parabacteroide, 4C0d_2, Cyanobacteria, YS2, Parabacteroides distasonis, Bacteroides uniformis, Verrucomicrobiaceae, Verrucomicrobiae, Verrucomicrobiales, Akkermansia, Akkermansia muciniphila, Coprobacillus, Parabacteroides gordonii, Blautia producta, and Ruminococcus torques; and in the DD group are Erysipelotrichales, Erysipelotrichi, and Erysipelothrichaceae. Conclusion: The Tongfuxiezhuo prescription elements of the DD significantly improved the intestinal flora of rats with NAFLD, improving the relative abundance of beneficial bacteria in the intestinal flora of NAFLD rats such as Bacteroides, Sartre genus, Vibrio pseudobutyrate bacteria, and Akkermansia muciniphila. This subsequently improved the glucose and lipid metabolism in NAFLD rats, reducing fat deposition in the liver, inhibiting intestinal inflammatory reaction, and maintaining the integrity of intestinal mucosal barrier. The action target is the intestinal axis of “intestinal–hepatic axis.”

A 90-day feeding study in rats was conducted to evaluate the subchronic oral toxicity of genetically modified (GM) DAS-81419-2 soybean. Wistar rats were fed with diets containing toasted soybean meal produced from DAS-81419-2 soybean grain that expresses the Cry1F, Cry1Ac, and Pat proteins or containing conventional soybean at doses of 30.0%, 15.0%, 7.5%, or 0% (control group) for 90 consecutive days. The general behavior, body weight and food consumption were observed. At the middle and end of the experiment, blood, serum, and urine samples were collected for biochemical assays. At the conclusion of the study, the internal organs were weighed and histopathological examination was completed. The rats exhibited free movement and shiny coats without any abnormal symptoms or abnormal secretions in their noses, eyes, or mouths. There were no adverse effects on body weight in GM soybean groups and conventional soybean groups. No biological differences in hematological, biochemical, or urine indices were observed. No significant differences in relative organ weights were detected between the experimental groups and the control group. No histopathological changes were observed. Under the conditions of this study, DAS-81419-2 soybean did not cause any treatment-related effects in Wistar rats following 90 days of dietary administration.

To observe the effect of San-Ao Decoction (, SAD) on water metabolism of bronchial asthra model mice.Forty-five female BALB/c mice were randomly divided into control, model and SAD groups by a random number table, 15 mice in each group. A composite method with ovalbumin (OVA) sensitization and challenge was developed to establish bronchial asthma model. Mice in the control group were intraperitoneally injected with distilled water without aerosol inhalation challenge. On day 15-22, 0.3 mL SAD was administered via gastric route in SAD group, one time per day, while an equivalent volume of normal saline was used for gastric administration in the control and model groups. Changes in airway resistance in the inspiratory phase (RI-R-Area) were detected using an AniRes2005 system, and 5-h urine output was collected by metabolic cages. Histopathological changes in lung and kidney were observed by hematoxylin-eosin staining. mRNA expressions of aquaporin (AQP) 1 and AQP2 in kidney were detected by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, and the protein expressions of AQP1 and AQP2 in kidney were detected by immunohistochemistry. Enzyme-linked immune sorbent assay was used to detect the OVA-specific endothelium-1 (ET-1), antidiuretic hormone (ADH), atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), prostaglandin ECompared with the control group, the serum IgE level in model group increased (P0.01). Following the pathologic changes in lung tissue, no significant change in kidney tissue was observed among 3 groups. Compared with the control group, the mice in the model group showed elevated airway resistance during inhalation phase, higher mRNA and protein expression levels on AQP1 and AQP2 in kidney tissue and higher ET-1 levels in serum, lung and kidney tissues, ADH and ANP in lung and serum, PGESan-Ao Decoction can regulate the urine volume through regulating AQP1 and AQP2 expression, and the expression of these in the kidneys might be regulated by ET-1, NO and Ang II.

As an important research direction in the field of biometrics, offline signature verification plays an important role. This paper proposes BoVW based on feature selection algorithm MRMR for offline signature verification. In this paper, eigenvectors were formed by extracting visual word features and the features were obtained by building a visual word bag of signature samples. In order to improve the relevance between eigenvectors and categories, and reduce the redundancy between features, the Maximum Relevance and Minimum Redundancy algorithm was used to select features of visual word eigenvectors. The algorithm can find the optimal feature subset. The experiments were conducted using 1200 samples from in our Uyghur signature database, and comparison experiments were carried on selecting 2640 samples from CEDAR database. It was obtained 93.81% of ORR from Uyghur signature and 95.38% of ORR using Latin signature from CEADER database respectively. The experimental results indicated the efficiency of proposed method in this paper.

The 4 properties of Chinese materia medica refer to cold, hot, warm, and cool. In the present study, the effects of the Coptis, the prepared aconite root, and dried ginger rhizome were compared with regard to the rectal and skin temperature changes of the related body surface acupuncture points (Dazhui, Zhiyang, Mingmen, Zhongwan, and Shenque). The investigation aimed to explore the thermal sensitive points, which can reflect the cold and hot properties of the Chinese herbs. This study showed that the prepared aconite root and dried ginger rhizome exhibited a warming effect on the body temperature, whereas the warming sensitive points were Zhongwan, Shenque, Dazhui, and Zhiyang. Coptis exhibited both a warming and a cooling effect on the body temperature, and the cooling sensitive point was Dazhui. The concomitant effect of these three Chinese herbs on the regulation of the body temperature was reflected by Dazhui. However, there are still some limitations and one-sidedness. For instance, the cold and hot property of some herbs cannot be fully reflected through relevant acupoints on the conception and governor vessels. More detecting sites such as ears and internal organs will be selected for further exploration of Chinese herbs' cold and hot property.

The thermister based temperature measurement scheme is widely applied for its low cost, strong stability and well flexibility. As the property between resistance and temperature is nonlinear, the practical application of thermister usually relies on the method of table look-up. Inevitably, that leads to the problems of poor versatility and large memory cost. Based on the analyses of resistance and temperature property, we propose an optimal linearization method of parameter design for NTC thermister interface circuit in this paper. The proposed approach is simple, but has a good linearity and high sensitivity. Test results are given to support the theoretical analyses and conclusions.

BACKGROUND/AIMS To evaluate the diagnostic significance of appendiceal orifice inflammation (AOI) in ulcerative colitis (UC) patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS We retrospectively examined data from patients with colitis from May 2010 to January 2014 and assigned them to two groups: UC cases and specific colitis cases. First, we clarified the difference in the AOI+ rate between the two groups. Thereafter, imaging findings of all the patients with colitis were re-examined. Features of AOI alone or in combination with proctitis (referred to as "combination features") were considered as the two separate diagnostic criteria for diagnosing UC. By comparing the current diagnoses with the previous diagnoses, evaluation indexes were obtained. RESULTS A total of 3582 colitis cases (UC cases: 427; specific colitis cases: 3155) were examined. The mean AOI+ rates in UC and specific colitis cases were 26.2% and 0.7%, respectively; a Chi-squared test indicated that the difference between these rates was statistically significant (x2=6.81; p

This study aimed to investigate the effects of baldrinal of Valeriana jatamansi on the expression of corticotropin releasing factor (CRF) and tryptophan hydroxylase 1 (TPH1) mRNA and levels of 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) in colon of rats with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and to explain its therapeutic mechanism on IBS through 5-HT pathway. Fifty-four male SD rats were randomly divided into 6 groups: blank group, model group, baldrinal high, medium and low dose groups, and pinaverium bromide group, n=9 in each group. The IBS rat models were established by using unpredictable chronic stress for 3 weeks followed by 1-hour acute restraint stress (CAS) after 7 days of rest and independent feeding. CRF expression was detected by IHC-P; TPH1 mRNA expression was detected by using RT-PCR and the 5-HT level was measured by high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC). The results indicated that the method of chronic stress with acute restrain stress method and independent feeding could lead to the increase in expressions of CRF and TPH1 mRNA and levels of 5-HT in IBS rats(P0.05). The expressions of CRF, TPH1 mRNA and 5-HT in baldrinal groups were significantly lower than those in model group(P0.05). The experimental results showed that IBS could result in increase in the expressions of CRF, TPH1 mRNA and levels of 5-HT, and the baldrinal of V. jatamansi could improve the symptoms of IBS by reducing the expressions of CRF, TPH1 mRNA and levels of 5-HT in colon of rats.

Compared with the fiber channel, the atmospheric channel offers the possibility of a broader geographical coverage and more flexible transmission for continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CVQKD). However, the fluctuation of atmospheric conditions will lead to the loss of performance in atmospheric quantum communication. In this paper, we study how temperature affects atmospheric CVQKD. We mainly consider the temperature effects on the transmittance and interruption probability. From the numerical simulation analysis, it can be shown that the performance of atmospheric CVQKD is improved as temperature increases, with the other factors fixed. Moreover, the results in this work can be used to evaluate the feasibility of the experimental implementation of the atmospheric CVQKD protocols.

In order to study the influence of mining-induced fractures field on gas drainage,the paper adopts software of numerical simulation COMSOL Multiphysics to simulate gas drainage of coal seam under the condition of high-strength underground mining. The main aspects can be seen as the following: (1) In the case without considering the fractures, gas drainage in single hole, the gas pressure distribution showed a funnel-type distribution in space along the drainage holes around. (2) The orientation and direction of fractures play a major role on the flow field of gas. In the region that exits fractures, the distribution of gas pressure has a clear fluctuation and adjustment.(3) The numerical simulation of coal seam gas drainage that considered the fracture of coal mining, was closer to the true gas flow.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of pulsatile flow on cerebral blood flow (CBF) in infants with the use of a mild hypothermic cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Thirty infants scheduled for open heart surgery were randomized to the pulsatile group (Group P, n = 15) and nonpulsatile group (Group NP, n = 15). In Group P, pulsatile perfusion was applied during the aortic cross-clamping period, whereas nonpulsatile perfusion was used in Group NP. The systolic peak velocity (Vs), the end of diastolic velocity (Vd), the mean velocity (Vm), and the pulsatility index (PI) and the resistance index (RI) of the middle cerebral artery were measured by a transcranial Doppler (TCD) ultrasound after anesthesia (T1; baseline), at the beginning of CPB (T2), 10 min after aortic cross-clamping (T3), 3 min after declamping (T4), at the cessation of CPB (T5), and at the end of the operation (T6). During T3 and T4, the Vs in Group P was significantly higher than in Group NP. However, there were no statistically significant differences between Vd and Vm. The PI and RI in Group P were also higher than those in Group NP (both P < 0.05). During T5, Vd and Vm were higher in Group P (P < 0.05), whereas there was no difference in Vs. Additionally, PI and RI in Group P were significantly lower than those in Group NP (P < 0.05). However, there was no difference during T6. Pulsatile perfusion may increase CBF and decrease cerebral vascular resistance in the early period after mild hypothermic CPB.

A new molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) for levofloxacin was prepared by the combined use of methacrylic acid and protoporphyrin as functional monomers. The adsorption properties of resultant imprinted polymers were evaluated by equilibrium rebinding experiments. The highest binding capacity of levofloxacin achieved from the optimized imprinted polymer in acetonitrile was 246.26 µmol/g with an imprinting factor of 2.05. A fluorescence quenching effect was observed when a protoporphyrin-based imprinted polymer was incubated in the solutions of levofloxacin. The results indicated that the protoporphyrin-based MIPs were able to create higher binding cavities for template compared with MIPs using only methacrylic acid as a functional monomer. It should be expected that the cooperative use of the protoporphyrin with supplemental different functional monomers may be an alternative to obtain MIP with the improvement of the selectivity. Objective To investigate the neurobiological mechanism of electroacupuncture in inhibiting bladder hyperactivity induced by L-dopa by observing frequency of urination and expression of vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) in sacral dorsal horn.

Nano-Cu modified glassy carbon electrode (nano-Cu-GCE) fabrication by reduction of CuSO 4 in the presence of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTMAB), through potentiostatic process, and catalytic oxidation of glucose on the nano-Cu-GCE were proposed. Optimum potential and time for deposition of Cu were –100 mV and 8 min, respectively. The potential used for the determination of glucose was 400 mV. The results indicated that nano-Cu-GCE showed an improved catalytic activity on oxidation of glucose compared with the electrode obtained in the absence of CTMAB. Current increment Δ i upon addition of glucose was linear with concentrations of glucose in the range of 1.0 × 10 −6 –3.9 × 10 −4 M in 0.1 M NaOH solution with a detection limit of 2.6 × 10 −7 M ( S / N = 3). Ascorbic acid (AA), para-acetaminophen (AP), and L -cysteine (Cys) had almost no interference in the glucose response.

Ten glioma cell lines were examined for abnormalities of exon 1beta of the p14 gene and then for abnormalities of the entire p14 gene with the use of previous findings of other exons. Abnormalities of exon 1beta and the entire p14 gene were detected in eight of ten cases: homozygous deletion of the entire gene in six cases, hemizygous deletion of exon 1beta with homozygous deletion of downstream exons in one case, and hemizygous deletion of the entire coding region with a missense mutation (A97V) at the C-terminal nucleolar localization domain in one case. The remaining two cases revealed no such abnormalities. p14 gene expression was observed in the latter two cases and one case with A97V mutation in the hemizygously deleted coding region, but not in the others, including one case with only exon 1beta. In the three cases with p14 gene expression, immunocytochemistry revealed p14 nucleolar staining, suggesting the retention of the functional activity of p14 protein and, in the case with the A97V mutation, an insufficient mutational effect as well. The present findings of the frequent and variable p14 gene abnormalities, including rare-type ones with or without sufficient mutational effect in glioma cell lines, might be of value for better understanding of the p14 gene and its related pathways in glioma carcinogenesis.

Tocotrienols have been shown many biologic functions such as antioxidant, anti-cancer, maintaining fertility and regulating the immune system and so on. In this study, after feeding with tocotrienol-rich fraction from palm oil (TRF) for 2 weeks, Balb/c nude mice were inoculated human colon SW620 cancer cell and then continued to feed TRF for 4 weeks. At termination of experiments, xenografts were removed and determined the expression of Wnt-pathways related protein by immunohistochemistry or western blotting. Liver tissues were homogenated for determining the levels of antioxidative enzymes activity or malondialdehyde (MDA). The results showed that TRF significantly inhibited the growth of xenografts in nude mice. TRF also affected the activity of antioxidative enzymes in the liver tissue of mice. These changes were partly contributed to activation of wnt pathways or affecting their related protein. Thus, these finding suggested that the potent anticancer effect of TRF is associated with the regulation of Wnt signal pathways.

Using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), six primary brain lymphomas, pathologically diagnosed as diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, were examined for rearranged V H -D-J H sequences of the immunoglobulin heavy chain gene, focusing on somatic mutations and intraclonal heterogeneity. The reliability of the isolated PCR clones was confirmed by in situ hybridization (ISH) with complementarity-determining region (CDR) 3 oligonucleotide probes. Sequence analysis of the PCR clones revealed a high frequency of somatic mutation, ranging from 8.8 to 27.3% (mean 18.2%) in the V H gene segments in all the lymphomas. A significantly lower frequency of replacement (R) mutations than expected was also seen in their frameworks (FRs) in all cases. These findings suggested that the precursor cells were germinal center (GC)-related cells in these lymphomas. However, despite extensive cloning experiments, intraclonal heterogeneity was not detected in any case except for one in which it could not be ruled out. Thus, it seemed likely that all of our brain lymphomas were derived from GC-related cells and that at least most of them were from post-GC cells.

A wet-chemical deposition method was developed to synthesize CeO2-mica pearlescent pigment using CeO2 as the coating material and mica as the base material. The main factors affecting the synthesis processes were studied. The optimum conditions were obtained were as: the coating reaction temperature is 70 ~ 80°C, cover ratio is 30 ~ 40%, stirring velocity is about 170 r/min, pH value is 6.50 ~ 7.50, heating rate is 3 ~ 5°C/min and heat treatment temperature is 800°C. The crystal phases and the microstructure of the pearlescent pigment powders were also analyzed by DTA-TG, XRD and SEM.
