In order to reduce the influence of environment on the flow rate of lubricating oil and improve the accuracy of dripping oil, this paper developed an optimized proportional integral differential (PID) precision lubrication controller for railway switch locking hooks. The system models the temperature-dependent flow dynamics of biodegradable lubricants. An improved PID algorithm is proposed, which uses velocity feedback to enhance setpoint tracking and disturbance suppression. The simulation results show that the flow control accuracy is improved by 0.8% compared with the traditional PID method. Field tests over a temperature fluctuation range of –3 °C to 35 °C validate the effectiveness and robustness of the method for maintaining a constant drop rate. This research enables adaptive, environmentally friendly lubrication to reduce friction and ensure the operability of railway switch.

It takes a long time to detect target information in noisy radar information and reduce the probability of false alarm. Therefore, it has become a research direction to reduce the probability of false alarm and the time of effective target detection. This paper introduces a new method to reduce the occurrence of false alarm in non-uniform environment and improve the efficiency of target detection. The proposed method involves a faster and more stable method that involves preprocessing the data set, splitting it into smaller parts, and utilizing a KTH minimum value M determined by an ordered statistics class constant false alarm detection algorithm. Each data point in the small segment is then compared to M, anything above M is classified as a target, and anything below M is ignored as clutter. Then ESVI-CFAR detection was performed on the selected target to obtain the final detection result. Experimental results show that the proposed method is superior to the traditional VI-CFAR and has better target detection performance.

BackgroundThe temporary neck bridging devices represented by Comaneci and Cascade are a type of promising endovascular device for the treatment of intracranial bifurcation or wide-necked aneurysms. This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to assess the efficacy and safety of Comaneci/Cascade devices for the treatment of intracranial aneurysms.MethodsWe performed a systematic literature search on articles in PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science that evaluated the efficacy and safety of Comaneci/Cascade devices for endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms, based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta Analytics (PRISMA) guideline. We extracted the characteristics and treatment related information of patients included in the study, recorded the rate of technical success, procedural related complications, and angiographic outcomes. The angiographic outcome was evaluated based on Raymond Roy classification, and adequate occlusion was defined as Raymond Ray I + II.ResultsNine studies comprising 253 patients with 255 aneurysms were included. Among them, eight studies were conducted in Europe, one study was conducted in the USA. All these studies were retrospective. 206 aneurysms (80.78%) were ruptured. The vast majority of patients with ruptured aneurysms did not receive antiplatelet therapy. The rate of technical success was 97.1% (95% CI, 94.9 to 99.3%, I2 = 0%). The rate of periprocedural clinical complications was 10.9% (95% CI, 5.4 to 22.1%, I2 = 54%). The rate of complete occlusion (RR1) and adequate occlusion (RR1 + RR2) on immediate angiography after the procedure were 77.7% (95% CI, 72.7 to 83.2%, I2 = 35%) and 98% (95% CI, 95.9 to 100%, I2 = 0%) respectively. The rate of complete occlusion (RR1) and adequate occlusion (RR1 + RR2) on the last follow-up angiography were 81.2% (95% CI, 69.2 to 95.2%, I2 = 81%) and 93.7% (95% CI, 85.6 to 100%, I2 = 69%) respectively, with follow-up range from 3 to 18 months. 22/187 (11.76%) cases of aneurysms progressed during the follow-up period. 39/187 (20.86%) cases of aneurysms received additional treatment during the follow-up period. No fatal complications occurred during the treatment.ConclusionThe Comaneci/Cascade device can be used as an auxiliary treatment for intracranial aneurysms, with a good occlusion effect, but the incidence of complications still needs to be monitored.

Understanding how pre-literate children's language abilities and neural function relate to future reading ability is important for identifying children who may be at-risk for reading problems. Pre-literate children are already proficient users of spoken language and their developing brain networks for language become highly overlapping with brain networks that emerge during literacy acquisition. In the present longitudinal study, we examined language abilities, and neural activation and connectivity within the language network in pre-literate children (mean age = 4.2 years). We tested how language abilities, brain activation, and connectivity predict children's reading abilities 1 year later (mean age = 5.2 years). At Time 1, children (n = 37) participated in a functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) experiment of speech processing (listening to words and pseudowords) and completed a standardized battery of language and cognitive assessments. At Time 2, children (n = 28) completed standardized reading assessments. Using psychophysiological interaction (PPI) analyses, we observed significant connectivity between the left IFG and right STG in pre-literate children, which was modulated by task (i.e., listening to words). Neural activation in left IFG and STG and increased task-modulated connectivity between the left IFG and right STG was predictive of multiple reading outcomes. Increased connectivity was associated later with increased reading ability.

Neural mechanisms behind noun and verb processing are ubiquitously separate, yet it remains controversial which factor, syntaxor semantics, is behind such separation. We conducted an ERP study using Chinese sentences with a specific construction, nounphrase + mei (“not/no”) + noun/verb/noun-verb-ambiguous-word, and excluding other grammatical or syntactic factors thatcould hint at the target words’ part-of-speech. Results showed significantly distinct P200, N400 and P600 between noun andverb processing in native speakers, indicating that semantic factors are essential for the differentiated neural mechanisms behindnoun and verb processing. Similar results were also found between noun-verb-ambiguous-word and noun processing, but notbetween noun-verb-ambiguous-word and verb processing, suggesting that lacking clues on part-of-speech makes the dynamicproperties of the ambiguous words more salient than the static ones, thus causing interpretation of such words more likely asverbs. This further elaborates the crucial role of semantic factors in noun and verb processing.

Naturally occurring oxides could react with zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles (NPs) and then change its transformation and toxicity to ecological receptors. The reaction may be affected by a variety of environmental factors, yet the relevant processes and mechanisms are limitedly investigated. Natural prevalent ligands, as an important factor, can sorb on natural oxide minerals and change its surface property, finally affecting ZnO NP transformation. Birnessite nanoflowers composed of layers have been proven to be the strongest adsorbent and oxidant in the surface environment. However, the current synthesis methods of birnessite nanoflowers are suffering from long reaction time and high reaction temperature. Based on these, this paper explores a new method for the rapid and controlled synthesis of layered manganese oxides. The method relies on the molar ratios of KMnO4 and H2O2 redox reacting species to drive the production of birnessite nanoflowers under acidic conditions. The molar ratios of KMnO4 and H2O2 are the key to the crystal structure of the as-prepared. It was found that when the molar ratios of KMnO4 and H2O2 is from 1:1.25 to 1:1.90, the sample is birnessite nanoflowers, and when the ratio is increased to 1:2.0, the sample is a mixture of birnessite nanoflowers and feitknechtite nanoplates. Among the as-prepared samples, BF-1.85 (molar ratios of KMnO4 and H2O2 is 1:1.85) shows the highest capacity for Pb2+ adsorption (2,955 mmol/kg) and greatest degradation efficiency of phenol and TOC. The method proposed herein is economical and controllable, and it yields products with high efficiency for the elimination of inorganic and organic pollutants.

The usual interpretation of the person and task variables in between‐persons measurement models such as item response theory (IRT) is as attributes of persons and tasks, respectively. They can be viewed instead as ensemble descriptors of patterns of interactions among persons and situations that arise from sociocognitive complex adaptive system (CASs). This view offers insights for interpreting and using between‐persons measurement models and connecting with sociocognitive research. In this article, we use data generated from an agent‐based model to illustrate relations between "social" and "cognitive" features of a simple underlying CAS and the variables of an IRT model fit to resulting data. We note how the ideas connect to explanatory item response modeling and briefly comment on implications for score interpretations and uses in practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and Purpose: Chronic inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) frequently affect extraintestinal organs including the liver. Since limited evidence suggests the presence of liver disease in IBD patients, we studied the frequency of hepatic steatosis and fibrosis in these patients and characterized disease-related factors. Methods: In this retrospective, cross-sectional, hospital-based, single-center study, consecutive patients with Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) were included who had undergone routine abdominal ultrasound including transhepatic elastography. Hepatic steatosis was diagnosed by hyperechogenicity on B-mode ultrasound and by measuring controlled attenuation parameter (CAP). Hepatic fibrosis was assumed if transhepatic elastography yielded a stiffness > 7 kPa. Results: 132 patients (60% CD) with a median disease duration of 10 years were included. Steatosis assessed by B-mode ultrasound and CAP correlated well. Of the IBD patients, 30.3% had non-alcoholic fatty liver (NAFL). Factors associated with NAFL were age, BMI, duration of disease, as well as serum activities of aspartate-aminotransferase (AST) and gamma-glutamyl-transpeptidase (GGT). In multivariate analysis, only disease duration was independently associated with hepatic steatosis. Hepatic fibrosis was found in 10 (8%) of all IBD patients, predominantly in patients with CD (10/11). Conclusions: Pure hepatic steatosis is common in both CD and UC, whereas hepatic fibrosis occurs predominantly in CD patients. Association of disease duration with NAFLD suggests a contribution of IBD-related pathogenetic factors. Longitudinal studies are needed to better understand the impact of IBD on hepatic disorders.

The material, δ-MnO2, has exhibited superior performance on the removal of methylene blue (MB), but the process is significantly impacted by pH, and the impacting mechanism is still unclear. In this study, the effects of pH on the removal mechanism of MB using synthesized δ-MnO2 were investigated by distinguishing the adsorption and oxidation of MB by δ-MnO2 during the removal process in the dark. The results show that the total removal efficiency of MB by δ-MnO2 decreased significantly with an increase in the pH. MB could be removed by δ-MnO2 via an adsorption mechanism and oxidation mechanism, and the proportion of adsorptive removal and oxidative removal was different under different pH conditions. With an increase in the initial pH from 2.00 to 8.05, the redox potential of δ-MnO2 decreased, and its oxidation ability for the removal of MB also gradually decreased. In contrast, the surface negative charges of δ-MnO2 increased with an increase in the pH, and the adsorption ability towards positively charged MB also gradually increased. This indicates that the effects of pH on the removal of MB by δ-MnO2 are primarily dominated by its influence on the oxidation ability of δ-MnO2. In addition, it is further proved that the pH value has a significant effect on the oxidation and adsorption of MB on δ-MnO2. Moreover, the significant effects of pH on the oxidation of MB by δ-MnO2 are further demonstrated by observing the changes in Mn2+ and the UV-Vis spectra of intermediate products during the reaction, as well as the changes in the FTIR and XPS characterizations of δ-MnO2 after the reaction.

With the intensification of human activities, arsenite (As(III)) pollutant from the soil and ground water has been a threat to human health, and the problem gradually becomes the focus of attention. In this study, the effects of several environment factors on As(III) removal ability of complex minerals are determined through the analysis of mineralogical characteristics of the complex synthesis of hematite and kaolin, using X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared, and specific surface area. In the results, the XRD patterns of hematite and kaolin complexes indicate that the loading covers up some characteristic peaks of minerals in kaolin, which can be that hematite loading decrease the order of structure for some minerals. With increasing Fe content, the hydroxyl sites gradually increase, therefore strengthening the As(III) removal ability of complexes. With increasing the As(III) concentration, the removal ratios of kaolin on As(III) almost keep unchanged and that of complexes show no obvious regularity. However, with the pH increasing, the removal ratios of all samples keep increasing. Furthermore, the increasing of As(III) concentration and pH both improve As(III) removal amount significantly, especially for As(III) concentration. In addition, there is no forming of new mineral through it as observed by XRD. Therefore, hematite loading can promote the As(III) removal on kaolin through adsorption in different environments, which can provide a better method for the remediation of arsenic pollution.

A novel family of cinnamic acid derivatives has been developed to be multifunctional cholinesterase inhibitors against AD by fusing N-benzyl pyridinium moiety and different substituted cinnamic acids. In vitro studies showed that most compounds were endowed with a noteworthy ability to inhibit cholinesterase, self-induced Aβ (1–42) aggregation, and to chelate metal ions. Especially, compound 5l showed potent cholinesterase inhibitory activity (IC50, 12.1 nM for eeAChE, 8.6 nM for hAChE, 2.6 μM for eqBuChE and 4.4 μM for hBuChE) and the highest selectivity toward AChE over BuChE. It also showed good inhibition of Aβ (1–42) aggregation (64.7% at 20 μM) and good neuroprotection on PC12 cells against amyloid-induced cell toxicity. Finally, compound 5l could penetrate the BBB, as forecasted by the PAMPA-BBB assay and proved in OF1 mice by ex vivo experiments. Overall, compound 5l seems to be a promising lead compound for the treatment of Alzheimer’s diseases.

Based upon the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) mechanism, a novel ratiometric fluorescent probe EB was developed to detect SO32−/HSO3−. The probe displayed both colorimetric and ratiometric responses toward SO32−/HSO3−. It displayed a quick response (within 60 s), good selectivity and high sensitivity (a detection limit of 28 nM) towards SO32−/HSO3−. The SO32−/HSO3− sensing mechanism was confirmed as the Michael addition reaction by ESI-MS. Moreover, the probe could be applied to measure the level of sulfite in real samples, like sugar and chrysanthemum, and it could also be used to detect SO32−/HSO3− in HepG2 cells through confocal fluorescence microscopy, which proved its practical application in clinical diagnosis.

Studying language evolution has become resurgent in modern scientific research. In this revival field, approaches from a number of disciplines other than linguistics, including (paleo)anthropology and archaeology, animal behaviors, genetics, neuroscience, computer simulation, and psychological experimentation, have been adopted, and a wide scope of topics have been examined in one way or another, covering not only world languages, but also human behaviors, brains and cultural products, as well as nonhuman primates and other species remote to humans. In this paper, together with a survey of recent findings based on these many approaches, we evaluate how this multidisciplinary perspective yields important insights into a comprehensive understanding of language, its evolution, and human cognition.

This study examined the developmental trajectories of executive function (EF) of children and adolescents with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in Han Chinese. Five hundred and fifteen children and adolescents with ADHD and 249 healthy controls took part in this study. All of them were administered four EF tests capturing inhibition, working memory, shifting and planning components. The participants were further divided into four age groups, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, and 13-15 years old, respectively, for developmental trajectories comparison. The performance of the typical developing children and adolescents aged 7-15 were reported to get stable at age 11-12 for inhibition, working memory and planning, and kept developing till age 13-15 for shifting. For inhibition and shifting, participants with ADHD displayed similar performance to the healthy controls who were 2 years younger whereas they did poorer than the healthy controls of their same age. And at age 13-15, such poorer performance disappeared for inhibition but maintained for shifting. No significant differences were found between participants with and without ADHD in working memory and planning across all age groups. The current findings suggested, compared with healthy controls, Han Chinese children and adolescents with ADHD displayed delayed developmental trajectories on inhibition and shifting, whereas they showed similar trend of development on working memory and planning.
