Frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar is an advantageous sensor scheme for target estimation and environmental perception. However, existing algorithms based on discrete Fourier transform (DFT), multiple signal classification (MUSIC) and compressed sensing, etc., cannot achieve both low complexity and high resolution simultaneously. This paper proposes an efficient 2-D MUSIC algorithm for super-resolution target estimation/tracking based on FMCW radar. Firstly, we enhance the efficiency of 2-D MUSIC azimuth-range spectrum estimation by incorporating 2-D DFT and multi-level resolution searching strategy. Secondly, we apply the gradient descent method to tightly integrate the spatial continuity of object motion into spectrum estimation when processing multi-epoch radar data, which improves the efficiency of continuous target tracking. These two approaches have improved the algorithm efficiency by nearly 2–4 orders of magnitude without losing accuracy and resolution. Simulation experiments are conducted to validate the effectiveness of the algorithm in both single-epoch estimation and multi-epoch tracking scenarios.

Abstract The mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase kinase kinase (M4K) family is evolutionarily conserved across plants and animals. In Arabidopsis, the protein kinase SIK1, an M4K member, is known to positively modulate reactive oxygen species (ROS) production during pattern-triggered immunity (PTI) by stabilizing BIK1, a key receptor-like cytoplasmic kinase (RLCK). While homologs of SIK1 exhibit conserved protein domain architectures across a range of land plants, their functional conservation remains incompletely understood. This study investigates the functional conservation and divergence of SIK1 homologs, focusing particularly on NbM4K3 in Nicotiana benthamiana. Silencing NbM4K3 resulted in an impairment of the flg22-induced ROS burst and expression of PTI marker genes. Additionally, silencing NbM4K3 led to diminished protein accumulation of RLCKs, while overexpression of the RLCKs prominently enhanced the flg22-induced ROS burst in NbM4K3-silenced plants. Furthermore, NbM4K3-silenced plants exhibited a compromised hypersensitive response (HR), reduced ROS accumulation, and diminished expression of effector-triggered immunity (ETI) marker genes when challenged with the avirulent strains Ralstonia solanacearum GMI1000 and Pseudomonas syringae DC3000, suggesting that NbM4K3 is a positive regulator of ETI. The attenuated HR phenotype observed in NbM4K3-silenced plants upon expression of RipP1 or RipE1, two avirulent type III effectors of GMI1000, further supports the affirmative role of NbM4K3 in ETI. In summary, our data indicate that the M4K NbM4K3 positively regulates both PTI and ETI in N. benthamiana, potentially by stabilizing RLCKs. These findings not only strengthen the role of M4K family in plant immunity but also suggest its potential in improving disease resistance in plants.

High-resolution and wide-swath (HRWS) multichannel synthetic aperture radar (SAR) provides extensive imaging coverage, playing a pivotal role in remote sensing applications. Although multichannel in azimuth SAR system has been proposed to deal with the contradiction problem between high resolution and low pulse repetition frequency, the channel errors caused by temperature, timing uncertainty and other factors may result in azimuth ambiguity and defocus. To address this issue, a deep learning-based channel calibration method is proposed in this article, in which multichannel errors can be simultaneously estimated to improve the performance of conventional separate channel estimation. Specifically, an end-to-end strategy over 3-D convolutional neural networks (CNNs) is proposed to estimate multichannel errors collaboratively by fully exploiting the correlation of both innerchannel and intrachannel signals. Furthermore, a simulation-based training data synthesis strategy is proposed to generate training samples with similar signal characteristics with the scene to be reconstructed, by which the proposed 3-D CNN can be well trained without real multichannel signals. Experiments over both simulated and real measured data demonstrate that the proposed deep learning-based channel calibration method can well estimate multichannel errors simultaneously to improve the performance of HRWS SAR imaging.

The ALOG (Arabidopsis LSH1 and Oryza G1) family proteins, namely, DUF640 domain-containing proteins, have been reported to function as transcription factors in various plants. However, the understanding of the response and function of ALOG family genes during reproductive development and under abiotic stress is still largely limited. In this study, we comprehensively analyzed the structural characteristics of ALOG family proteins and their expression profiles during inflorescence development and under abiotic stress in rice. The results showed that OsG1/OsG1L1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9 all had four conserved helical structures and an inserted Zinc-Ribbon (ZnR), the other four proteins OsG1L10/11/12/13 lacked complete Helix-1 and Helix-2. In the ALOG gene promoters, there were abundant cis-acting elements, including ABA, MeJA, and drought-responsive elements. Most ALOG genes show a decrease in expression levels within 24 h under ABA and drought treatments, while OsG1L2 expression levels show an upregulated trend under ABA and drought treatments. The expression analysis at different stages of inflorescence development indicated that OsG1L1/2/3/8/11 were mainly expressed in the P1 stage; in the P4 stage, OsG1/OsG1L4/5/9/12 had a higher expression level. These results lay a good foundation for further studying the expression of rice ALOG family genes under abiotic stresses, and provide important experimental support for their functional research.

The extensive deployment of wind farms has significantly impacted the detection capabilities of space–air bistatic radar (SABR) systems. Although space–time adaptive processing techniques are available, their performance is significantly degraded, and even unable to suppress clutter. This paper explores the geometric configuration of the SABR system and the selection of detection areas, establishing a space–time clutter model that addresses the effects of wind turbine clutter (WTC). Expressions for spatial and Doppler frequencies have been derived to deeply analyze the characteristics of clutter spreading. Building on this, the paper extends two-dimensional space–time data to three-dimensional azimuth–elevation–Doppler data. It proposes a three-dimensional space–time multi-beam (STMB) strategy incorporating the Ordering Points to Identify the Clustering Structure (OPTICS) clustering algorithm to suppress WTC effectively. This algorithm selects WTC samples and applies OPTICS clustering to the clutter-suppressed data to achieve this effect. Simulation experiments further verify the effectiveness of the algorithm.

Sleep deprivation (SD) triggers mitochondrial dysfunction and neural inflammation, leading to cognitive impairment and mental issues. However, the mechanism involving mitochondrial dysfunction and neural inflammation still remains unclear. Here, we report that SD rats exhibited multiple behavioral disorders, brain oxidative stress, and robust brain mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) oxidation. In particular, SD activated microglia and microglial mtDNA efflux to the cytosol and provoked brain pro-inflammatory cytokines. We observed that the mtDNA efflux and pro-inflammatory cytokines significantly reduced with the suppression of the mtDNA oxidation. With the treatment of a novel mitochondrial nutrient, hydroxytyrosol butyrate (HTHB), the SD-induced behavioral disorders were significantly ameliorated while mtDNA oxidation, mtDNA release, and NF-κB activation were remarkably alleviated in both the rat brain and the N9 microglial cell line. Together, these results indicate that microglial mtDNA oxidation and the resultant release induced by SD mediate neural inflammation and HTHB prevents mtDNA oxidation and efflux, providing a potential treatment for SD-induced mental issues.

IntroductionColorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cause of cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Microsatellite instability-high (MSI-H) is a distinct molecular subtype of CRC that occurs in approximately 15% of all cases. Recently, immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have emerged as a promising therapeutic approach for patients with MSI-H colorectal cancer, exhibiting higher response rates than standard chemotherapies. To assess the effectiveness and safety of ICIs for the treatment of patients with MSI-H CRC, we propose a comprehensive pooled analysis of clinical trial data.Methods and analysisA systematic search of multiple electronic databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and Clinicaltrials.gov, will be conducted from their inception until September, 2023 to identify eligible randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and non-randomized studies. Inclusion criteria comprise studies of adult patients with histologically confirmed MSI-H CRC treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors, with a comparison to a control group receiving conventional therapies. Outcomes of interest will be overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), objective response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR), and incidence of treatment-related adverse events (AEs). The Cochrane Risk of Bias tool and the Risk of Bias in Non-randomized Studies of Interventions (ROBINS-I) tool will be employed to evaluate the methodological quality of included studies. A random-effects model using the DerSimonian and Laird method will be applied for pooling the effect estimates, calculating hazard ratios (HRs) or risk ratios (RRs) with their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Heterogeneity will be assessed using I² statistics, and subgroup analysis and meta-regression will be performed to explore potential effect modifiers in case of substantial heterogeneity. Publication bias will be evaluated with funnel plots and Egger’s test. Sensitivity analysis will be conducted to assess the robustness of the results.DiscussionThis meta-analysis will synthesize available evidence from clinical trials on immune checkpoint inhibitors in treating MSI-H colorectal cancer. The findings will offer valuable information about the effectiveness and safety of ICIs in this patient population, contributing to the refinement of clinical guidelines and enhancing the decision-making process for healthcare providers, policy-makers, and patients. The comprehensive analysis of subgroups and sensitivity allows for an in-depth understanding of potential effect modification, providing essential directions for future research.Ethics and disseminationThis study will involve the use of published data; hence, ethical approval is not required. The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-borne video synthetic aperture radar (SAR) possesses the characteristic of having high-continuous-frame-rate imaging, which is conducive to the real-time monitoring of ground-moving targets. The real-time imaging-processing system for UAV-borne video SAR (ViSAR) requires miniaturization, low power consumption, high frame rate, and high-resolution imaging. In order to achieve high-frame-rate real-time imaging on limited payload-carrying platforms, this study proposes a miniaturization design of a high-integration UAV-borne ViSAR real-time imaging-processing component (MRIPC). The proposed design integrates functions such as broadband signal generation, high-speed real-time sampling, and real-time SAR imaging processing on a single-chip FPGA. The parallel access mechanism using multiple sets of high-speed data buffers increases the data access throughput and solves the problem of data access bandwidth. The range-Doppler (RD) algorithm and map-drift (MD) algorithm are optimized using parallel multiplexing, achieving a balance between computing speed and hardware resources. The test results have verified that our proposed component is effective for the real-time processing of 2048 × 2048 single-precision floating-point data points to realize a 5 Hz imaging frame rate and 0.15 m imaging resolution, satisfying the requirements of real-time ViSAR-imaging processing.

Abstract The non‐stationary clutter phenomenon and the severe range ambiguity make space‐based early warning radar as an intricate model of received ground and sea clutter. The received clutter is severely broadened in Doppler dimension, and the degrees of freedom (DOFs) of the received clutter is severely increased. Because the DOFs of the system is always lower than the theoretical DOFs of the received clutter, the adaptive processing capability of the system is insufficient and the performance of clutter suppression is seriously degraded. A multi‐domain cascaded adaptive processing method is proposed in this study. The proposed method takes full advantage of the digital antenna array to suppress a portion of the clutter energy by introducing the transmit pulse coding domain, and the remaining influential clutter energy is suppressed by introducing the elevation‐dimensional receive channel domain. Finally, the clutter after the two‐dimensional (2D) pre‐processed is suppressed by the 2D adaptive processing in the azimuthal receive beam‐receive Doppler domain. This method pre‐processes the clutter data by extending the processing dimension to meet the freedom requirements of the adaptive signal processing, and the capability of clutter suppression is significantly improved. Simulation examples show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The UAV-borne video SAR (ViSAR) imaging system requires miniaturization, low power consumption, high frame rates, and high-resolution real-time imaging. In order to satisfy the requirements of real-time imaging processing for the UAV-borne ViSAR under limited memory and parallel computing resources, this paper proposes a method of embedded GPU-based real-time imaging processing for the UAV-borne ViSAR. Based on a parallel programming model of the compute unified device architecture (CUDA), this paper designed a parallel computing method for range-Doppler (RD) and map drift (MD) algorithms. By utilizing the advantages of the embedded GPU characterized with parallel computing, we improved the processing speed of real-time ViSAR imaging. This paper also adopted a unified memory management method, which greatly reduces data replication and communication latency between the CPU and the GPU. The data processing of 2048 × 2048 points took only 1.215 s on the Jetson AGX Orin platform to form a nine-consecutive-frame image with a resolution of 0.15 m, with each frame taking only 0.135 s, enabling real-time imaging at a high frame rate of 5 Hz. In actual testing, continuous mapping can be achieved without losing the scenes, intuitively obtaining the dynamic observation effects of the area. The processing results of the measured data have verified the reliability and effectiveness of the proposed scheme, satisfying the processing requirements for real-time ViSAR imaging.

The non-stationary clutter of space-based early warning radar (SBEWR) is more serious than that of airborne early warning radar. This phenomenon is primarily attributed to the Earth’s rotation and range ambiguity. The increase in clutter degrees of freedom (DOFs) and the significant widening of the clutter suppression notch are not conducive to moving target detection near main lobe clutter. This paper proposes an effective approach to suppress non-stationary clutter based on an interpulse multi-frequency mode for SBEWR. Using the orthogonality of the uniform stepping frequency signal, partial range ambiguity can be effectively suppressed, and the clutter DOFs will be reduced. Subsequently, joint pitch-azimuth-Doppler three-dimensional spacetime adaptive processing and slant range preprocessing are used to perform clutter suppression. This combination not only curtails the estimation error associated with the clutter covariance matrix but also enhances the overall detection capabilities of the system. The simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract By harmonically fitting the arrival times of the P‐to‐S converted phases from the Moho, we systematically investigate the crustal anisotropy beneath the Cathaysia Block (CaB) and the surrounding areas in South China for the first time. The measured anisotropy parameters show strong lateral variations with an average splitting time of 0.35 ± 0.12 s. The resulting fast directions exhibit clear geographic variations with two possible boundaries that separate the CaB into three parts. The inconsistent fast direction of crustal anisotropy among each part, and the comparisons with teleseismic XKS splitting measurements indicate that the mechanisms of crustal deformation vary between distinct regions. The crust deforms coherently with the upper mantle in the western CaB, which is possibly driven by mantle flow. The fast directions of crustal anisotropy in the central CaB exhibit a radial pattern and show large discrepancies with XKS splitting measurements. We suggest that the crust has a complex deformation mechanism in this region. We propose a new scenario that emphasizes the interaction of the crust and upper mantle for interpreting the radial‐patterned crustal anisotropy, which involves the processes of subduction plate rollback, asthenospheric upwelling, crustal melting and lithospheric mantle intrusion. The fast directions of crustal anisotropy in the eastern CaB are dominantly parallel to the continental margin, suggesting subduction‐controlled crustal deformation in this region.

Formation flying synthetic aperture radar (FF-SAR) systems, as an important development direction of multichannel SAR, can achieve high-resolution wide-swath imaging. Coherently combining data from satellite receivers puts a strain on the traditional real-time processing systems based on individual satellites. Characteristics, such as the power of real-time on-orbit processing platform, must be properly balanced with constrained memory and parallel computational resources. This article proposes a distributed SAR real-time imaging method based on the embedded graphics processing units (GPUs). The parallel computing method of the chirp scaling algorithm is designed based on the parallel programming model of compute unified device architecture, and the optimization methods of memory and performance are proposed for the hardware architecture of embedded GPUs. In particular, the unified memory management method is used to avoid data copying and communication delays between the CPU and GPU. A hardware verification system for distributed SAR real-time imaging processing based on multiple embedded GPUs is constructed. The proposed algorithm takes 5.86 s to process single-precision floating-point complex imaging with a data size of 8192 × 8192 on a single Jetson Nano platform. The actual power consumption is less than 5 W, and the performance-to-power ratio is greater than 1.7%. The experimental results show that the real-time processing method based on the embedded GPUs proposed in this article has high performance and low-power consumption.

The Gannan region is situated in Ganzhou City, Jiangxi Province, China, and has a complicated geological background. Seasonal droughts significantly jeopardize the water security of the local population. Groundwater is essential to alleviate the region’s water needs. In this research, the groundwater potential (GWP) of the Gannan region was assessed using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) and the Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP). The groundwater recharge and rainfall estimated by the SWAT model exhibited notable inconsistencies regarding their spatial distribution. Eight groundwater potential assessment factors (lithology, fault density, land use, slope, convergence index, drainage density, rainfall, and groundwater recharge) were constructed by integrating remote sensing, geological, and SWAT output data. Two GWP maps were constructed by an overlay analysis based on the obtained weights using the AHP, with the rainfall and groundwater recharge assigned the same weight to calculate the GWP with the other six factors separately. Each map was split into five classes: excellent, good, moderate, poor, and very poor. Data from 23 wells and 42 springs were collected to validate the two maps by correlation analysis between the GWP and flow rates of wells and springs. The correlation analysis result indicates that the GWP calculated by the recharge (R2 = 0.8 and 0.74, respectively) is more accurate than the GWP calculated by the rainfall (R2 = 0.21 and 0.48, respectively) and can provide a theoretical basis for groundwater management and exploration in the area.

We introduce an approach for the direct measurement of the gravitational potential (GP) along the trajectory of a satellite, with a specific focus on Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites. A LEO satellite communicates with several Geosynchronous Equatorial Orbit (GEO) satellites via frequency signal links. The GP difference can be measured in real-time using the gravitational frequency shift approach by equipping both LEO and GEO satellites with precise atomic clocks. Since the GP at the high orbits of the GEO satellites can be precisely determined by the present gravitational field model EGM2008, the GP along the LEO satellite’s trajectory can be determined. In this study, simulation experiments were conducted, featuring a GRACE-type satellite as the LEO satellite in communication with three equidistant GEO satellites. The results indicated that the accuracy of the GP measurements along the LEO satellite’s trajectory primarily depends on the precision of the onboard atomic clocks. Supposing optical atomic clocks attain an instability level of 1×10−17τ−1/2 (τ in seconds), we determined the GP distribution covered by the LEO satellite’s trajectories with 30-day observations. Then, we determined a gravitational field at the centimeter level based on the GP distribution. The GP data derived from the trajectory of a LEO satellite can be utilized to establish temporal gravitational fields, which have broad applications in different disciplines.

The International Association of Geodesy (IAG) aims to establish the International Height Reference System (IHRS) as one of its primary scientific objectives. Central to the realization of the IHRS is global vertical datum unification, which requires the connection of existing local vertical height reference systems (VHS) robustly and consistently. However, conventional methods are not suitable for estimating the offsets between two distant local height systems. In this paper, we propose a framework for connecting two local VHSs using ultraprecise clock frequency signal links between satellites and ground stations, referred to as the satellite frequency signal transmission (SFST) approach. The SFST approach allows for the direct determination of the geopotential and height differences between two ground datum stations without any location restrictions between the two VHSs. The simulation results show that the VHSs of China and the US can be unified with an accuracy of several centimeters, provided that the stability of atomic clocks used on-board the satellite and at on-ground datum locations reaches 4.8×10−17τ−1/2 for an averaging time τ (in seconds). We conclude that the SFST approach shows promise for achieving centimeter-level accuracy in unifying the global vertical height datum and represents a new paradigm for the realization of the IHRS.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) has become a major public health problem that affects the elderly population. Therapeutic compounds with curative effects are not available due to the complex pathogenesis of AD. Daphnetin, a natural coumarin derivative and inhibitor of various kinases, has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities. In this study, we found that daphnetin improved spatial learning and memory in an amyloid precursor protein (APP)/presenilin 1 (PS1) double-transgenic mouse model of AD. Daphnetin markedly decreased the levels of amyloid-β peptide 1–40 (Aβ40) and 1–42 (Aβ42) in the cerebral cortex, downregulated the expressions of enzymes involved in APP processing, e.g., beta-site APP-cleaving enzyme (BACE), nicastrin and presenilin enhancer protein 2 (PEN2). We further found the reduced serum levels of inflammatory factors, including interleukin-1β (IL-1β), interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and chemokine (C-C motif) ligand 3 (CCL3), while daphnetin increased total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels in the serum. Interestingly, daphnetin markedly decreased the expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and the upstream regulatory molecule- phosphorylated signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (p-STAT3) in APP/PS1 mice, and mainly inhibited the phosphorylation of STAT3 at Ser727 to decrease GFAP expression evidenced in a LPS-activated glial cell model. These results suggest that daphnetin ameliorates cognitive deficits and that Aβ deposition in APP/PS1 mice is mainly correlated with astrocyte activation and APP processing.

The MS8.0 Wenchuan earthquake occurred on May 12th, 2008 on the steeply reverse fault of the Longmen Shan fault zone, Western China. Catastrophic failure and rupture occurred along the listric sliding surface. Several numerical simulations have been performed to reconfigure the dynamic processes of this strong earthquake. However, few scientific studies on the stick-slip of the listric fault have been conducted. In this study, finite element method is utilized to simulate the instant stick-slip fault responses at the triggering moment. The fault surface is a non-continuous and frictional contact interface. The simulation results demonstrated that the sliding friction and sticking friction interact spatially. This interaction occurred temporarily on swarms of slip patches, rather than the entire fault slipping surface. Stick-slip causes serrated energy release, and transient aseismic slip can occur spontaneously. These tremors propagate from the epicenter upwards to the ground surface. Therefore, they may provide important details on earthquake onset rupture.

When high-resolution wide-swath (HRWS) multichannel synthetic aperture radar (MC-SAR) system is used for ocean observation, vast amount of redundant data is generated, significantly limiting its applications. Though compressive sensing (CS)-based method has been applied to the traditional single-channel or dual-channel SAR imaging system, it is no longer applicable for MC-SAR due to the existence of channel error when using the space-time equivalent sampling technique for azimuth signal reconstruction. By analyzing such periodic channel error, i.e., frequency-dependence phase mismatch (FD-PM), in this article, a novel dictionary is constructed for CS-based HRWS MC-SAR imaging after an improved range cell migration correction method is applied. As a result, a novel CS imaging mode is proposed for the ocean moving target based on the sparsity of the target scattering centers, by which the amount of data in MC-SAR can be reduced by sampling below the Nyquist sampling rate and the swath width can be further increased. Experimental results show that the proposed method clearly eliminates the azimuth defocus and blur caused by low sampling rate and FD-PM, and significantly reduces the amount of data to about one-third when compared to sampling at the Nyquist rate.

In this article, an effective clutter suppression and moving target imaging approach is proposed for the geosynchronous-low earth orbit (GEO-LEO) bistatic multichannel synthetic aperture radar (SAR) system, which is robust for the fast moving target with Doppler centroid ambiguity. For the GEO-LEO bistatic multichannel SAR system, the characteristic of baseline with azimuth invariant in Doppler Fourier transform domain is not tenable. It is difficult to implement clutter suppression by the unified baseline compensation in azimuth Doppler Fourier transform domain. Fortunately, we discover that the baseline can be approximately regarded as a constant in chirp Fourier transform domain for the GEO-LEO bistatic multichannel SAR system. Hence, the corresponding baseline compensation can be achieved in the azimuth chirp Fourier transform domain for the clutter. With an orthogonality vector of clutter, the clutter can be well suppressed and the moving target is extracted. After that, the moving target imaging approach is developed with the baseband Doppler centroid estimation and Doppler ambiguity number estimation. Finally, the theoretical investigations and the proposed approach in this article are validated by some experiments, where the experiments for clutter suppression and experiments for fast moving targets are included. Especially, an experiment with real SAR scattering scene is involved. In addition, some discussions for blind velocity targets are presented.

Multichannel synthetic aperture radar ground moving target indication has been widely used and get great attention nowadays. Traditional adaptive methods like space-time adaptive processing (STAP) need to calculate and search the maximum of the test statistic pixel by pixel over a large range of radial velocity, which will cause great computational burden. Nonadaptive methods like displaced phase center antenna (DPCA) will cause signal loss of moving targets, thereby degrading the performance of moving targets detection and radial velocity estimation. To improve the problem mentioned above, this article proposes a novel two-step scheme based on greatest of (GO)-DPCA and Local STAP. In step I, GO-DPCA utilizes the complex images of the channels with different baselines for joint moving target detection. Then, in step II, only the local data of moving targets detected in step I needs to be extracted from the original image domain for clutter suppression and radial velocity estimation simultaneously by STAP. Since the processing gain of moving targets depends on the radial velocity and baseline length, the detection performance of moving targets with different radial velocity can be improved by proposed GO-DPCA compared to conventional DPCA. Considering the moving targets usually distribute sparsely in the scene, step II can avoid most computational burden caused by processing pixel by pixel. Finally, the experimental results of both simulated and acquired data are given to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Accurate estimation of the clutter covariance matrix for the cell under test (CUT) is a committed step in the spatial-temporal adaptive processing (STAP) algorithm. The unique nonstationary characteristic of signal for space-based early warning radar (SBEWR) leads to the spatial variation of training sample and the insufficient number of optional independent identically distributed (i.i.d.) training samples, which brings difficulties to training sample selection and covariance matrix estimation. To improve the estimation accuracy of clutter covariance matrix and the performance of STAP for SBEWR in a heterogeneous environment, a novel training sample selection and clutter covariance matrix estimation method is proposed. The method based on clutter subspace reconstruction and spectrum correction technology can improve the estimation accuracy of clutter covariance matrix in the case of nonstationary signals and heterogeneous environments. The clutter covariance matrix estimated by the proposed method is similar to the clutter covariance matrix of the CUT, and the performance of STAP is improved. The experimental results confirm the performance of the proposed method.

The ground and sea clutter received by space-based early warning radar (SBEWR) has severely range ambiguous characteristics due to its platform location, and the non-stationary factor caused by Earth’s rotation makes the received clutter at different range ambiguous positions seriously broaden in the Doppler dimension. The complex clutter suppression performance of SBEWR obtained by traditional method is degraded significantly. To solve this problem and achieve better clutter suppression performance, a novel multi-domain adaptive processing method for clutter suppression is proposed in this paper. The proposed method introduced a range related signal processing domain based on conventional space–time domain by using frequency diverse array phase multiple-input multiple-output (FDA-Phase-MIMO) radar. In addition, a novel multi-domain joint dimensionality reduction structure was designed. The novel multi-domain joint adaptive processing using the proposed dimensionality reduction structure could not only obtain great clutter suppression performance of SBEWR, but also minimize the requirement of the number of selected auxiliary channels. Simulation examples show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

C2H2 zinc finger protein (C2H2-ZFP) is one of the most important transcription factor families in higher plants. In this study, a total of 145 C2H2-ZFPs was identified in Sorghum bicolor and randomly distributed on 10 chromosomes. Based on the phylogenetic tree, these zinc finger gene family members were divided into 11 clades, and the gene structure and motif composition of SbC2H2-ZFPs in the same clade were similar. SbC2H2-ZFP members located in the same clade contained similar intron/exon and motif patterns. Thirty-three tandem duplicated SbC2H2-ZFPs and 24 pairs of segmental duplicated genes were identified. Moreover, synteny analysis showed that sorghum had more collinear regions with monocotyledonous plants such as maize and rice than did dicotyledons such as soybean and Arabidopsis. Furthermore, we used quantitative RT-PCR (qRT-PCR) to analyze the expression of C2H2-ZFPs in different organs and demonstrated that the genes responded to cold and drought. For example, Sobic.008G088842 might be activated by cold but is inhibited in drought in the stems and leaves. This work not only revealed an important expanded C2H2-ZFP gene family in Sorghum bicolor but also provides a research basis for determining the role of C2H2-ZFPs in sorghum development and abiotic stress resistance.

Wheat nutrition and processing-quality are primarily based on the endosperm ingredients. However, the effect of embryos on grain traits and components remains unclear. In this study, we found that in the cross-pollinated and self-pollinated progenies of the four wheat mtl mutants (mtl-A, mtl-AD, mtl-BD, and mtl-ABD) the haploid induction rates were 0–15.6% and 0–14.1%, and the embryo abortion rates were 0–27.4% and 0–24.1%, respectively, in which mtl-A had no effect on haploid induction and embryo development. The embryoless grains (ELG) were comparable to the normal grains (NG) from mtl-AD, mtl-BD, and mtl-ABD in grain length, grain width and thousand-kernel weight, but the grain traits were significantly less than those in NG from mutant mtl-A. During grain filling period, mtl-ABD had similar ELG ratio and amount of starch granule (SG) and protein body (PB) in ELG and NG. At maturity stage, the morphological features of A-type and B-type SG in ELG were similar to those in NG in mtl mutants; however, amylose, gliadin, and glutenin contents were higher in ELG, and total starch, albumin and globulin contents were higher in NG. Our results clarified the effect of the wheat mtl mutants on haploid induction and grain traits and nutrition composition in this crop, and provided new clues for studying the development of embryo and endosperm and their interaction in plants.

In 1954, the Yangtze River valley was hit by heavy precipitation anomalies, which caused large casualties and economic losses; however, systematic analyses of the causes are lacking. Adopting the latest national historical precipitation data collected by the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) and global sea surface temperature (SST) records, this retrospective study determined the spatial–temporal distribution characteristics of the precipitation in 1954 in Wuhan, a city situated in the Yangtze River valley. The results confirmed that the 1954 precipitation anomalies were characterized by a high volume and a long period of rainfall, plus numerous cloudbursts, with most of the precipitation concentrated during June and July at the mid- and low-Yangtze areas along the Yangtze. An El Niño event caused the West Pacific subtropical highs to continually move southward during the summer, creating a long-term rainband in the drainage basin. Moreover, the continued low SSTs in the Sea of Okhotsk generated an active blocking high that continuously brought high-latitude cold air into the south, boosting precipitation over the drainage basin. This study proposed a new causal model of summertime precipitation across the Yangtze River valley in 1954, whereby the unusual SST changes initially triggered atmospheric circulation anomalies, which caused the precipitation anomalies of 1954.

The upper crustal anisotropy of Yunnan area, SE margin of Tibetan Plateau, is investigated by measuring the shear wave splitting of local earthquakes. The mean value of the measured delay times is 0.054 s and far less than that from Pms splitting analysis, indicating that the crustal anisotropy is contributed mostly from mid-lower crust. The fast polarization directions are mostly sub-parallel to the maximum horizontal compression directions while the stations near fault zones show fault-parallel fast polarization directions, suggesting both stress and geological structure contribute to the upper crust anisotropy. Comparing fast polarization directions from shear wave splitting of local earthquakes and Pms, large angle differences are shown at most stations, implying different anisotropy properties between upper and mid-lower crust. However, in southwestern Yunnan, the fast polarization directions of Pms and S-wave splitting are nearly parallel, and the stress and surface strain rate directions show strong correlation, which may indicate that the surface and deep crust deformations can be explained by the same mechanism and the surface deformation can represent the deformation of the whole crust. Therefore, the high correlation between surface strain and mantle deformation in this area suggests the mechanical coupling between crust and mantle in southwestern Yunnan. In the rest region of Yunnan, the crust-mantle coupling mechanisms are supported by the lack of significant crustal anisotropy with NS fast polarization directions from Pms splitting. In plants, seedling growth is subtly controlled by multiple environmental factors and endogenous phytohormones. The cross-talk between sugars and brassinosteroid (BR) signaling is known to regulate plant growth; however, the molecular mechanisms that coordinate hormone-dependent growth responses with exogenous sucrose in plants are incompletely understood. Skotomorphogenesis is a plant growth stage with rapid elongation of the hypocotyls. In the present study, we found that low-concentration sugars could improve skotomorphogenesis in a manner dependent on BR biosynthesis and TOR activation. However, accumulation of BZR1 in bzr1-1D mutant plants partially rescued the defects of skotomorphogenesis induced by the TOR inhibitor AZD, and these etiolated seedlings displayed a normal phenotype like that of wild-type seedlings in response to both sucrose and non-sucrose treatments, thereby indicating that accumulated BZR1 sustained, at least partially, the sucrose-promoted growth of etiolated seedlings (skotomorphogenesis). Moreover, genetic evidence based on a phenotypic analysis of bin2-3bil1bil2 triple-mutant and gain-of-function bin2–1 mutant plant indicated that BIN2 inactivation was conducive to skotomorphogenesis in the dark. Subsequent biochemical and molecular analyses enabled us to confirm that sucrose reduced BIN2 levels via the TOR–S6K2 pathway in etiolated seedlings. Combined with a determination of the cellulose content, our results indicated that sucrose-induced BIN2 degradation led to the accumulation of BZR1 and the enhancement of cellulose synthesis, thereby promoting skotomorphogenesis, and that BIN2 is the converging node that integrates sugar and BR signaling.

Mianyang City is located in the varied topographic areas of Sichuan Province in southwestern China and is characterized by a complex geological background. This area is prone to disasters and its varied topography is inconvenient for emergency water storage and supply. Groundwater is essential for alleviating the demand for water and post-disaster emergency water supply in this area. This study applied AHP to integrate remote sensing, geological and hydrological data into GIS for the assessment of groundwater potential, providing a plan for the rational exploitation of groundwater and post-disaster emergency water supply in the area. Nine factors, including the spring calibration related to groundwater, were integrated by AHP after multicollinear checks. As a result, the geology-controlled groundwater potential map was classified into five levels with equal intervals. All the results were validated using borehole data, indicating the following: the areas with yield rates of <1t/d·m, 1–20 t/d·m, and 20–400 t/d·m accounted for 2.66%, 36.1%, and 39.62%, respectively, whereas the areas with yield rates of 400–4000 t/d·m and >4000t/d·m accounted for only 20.88% and 0.75% of the overall area. The flexibility of this quick and efficient method enables its application in other regions with a similar geological background.

Background: Temperature is one of the main variables need to be regulated in cryogenic wind tunnel to realize the true flight Reynolds number. A new control methodology based on L1 output feedback adaptive control is deployed in the temperature control. Methods: This design is composed of three parts: linear quadratic Gaussian baseline control, L1 adaptive control and nonlinear feedforward control. A linear quadratic Gaussian controller is implemented as the baseline controller to provide the basic robustness of temperature control. A L1 output feedback adaptive controller with a modified piecewise constant adaptive law is deployed as an augmentation for the baseline controller to cancel the uncertainties within the actuator’s bandwidth. The modified adaptive law can guarantee better steady-state tracking performance compared with the standard adaptive law. A global nonlinear optimization process is carried out to obtain a suboptimal filter design for the L1 controller to maximize the performance index. The nonlinear feedforward control is to cancel the coupling effects in control of the tunnel. Results: With these design techniques, the augmented L1 adaptive controller improves the performance of the baseline controller in the presence of uncertainties of dynamics. The simulation results and analysis demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control architecture. Conclusion: The modification of adaptive law plus the global nonlinear optimization of the filter in the L1 adaptive control architecture helps the controller achieve good control performance and acceptable robustness for the temperature control over a wide range of operations.

The spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is quite powerful in worldwide ocean observation, especially for ship monitoring, as a hot topic in ocean surveillance. The launched Gaofen-3 (GF3) satellite of China can provide C-band and multi-polarization SAR data, and one of its scientific applications is ocean ship detection. Compared with the single polarization system, polarimetric systems can be used for more effective ship detection. In this paper, a generalized extreme value (GEV)-based constant false alarm rate (CFAR) detector is proposed for ship detection in the ocean by using the reflection symmetry metric of dual-polarization. The reflection symmetry property shows big differences between the metallic targets at sea and the sea surface. In addition, the GEV statistical model is employed for reflection symmetry statistical distribution, which fits the reflection symmetry probability density function (pdf) well. Five dual-polarimetric GF3 stripmap ocean data sets are introduced in the paper, to show the contrast in enhancement by using reflection symmetry and to investigate the GEV model fit to the reflection symmetry metric. Additionally, with the detection experiments on the real GF3 datasets, the effectiveness and efficiency of the GEV model for reflection symmetry and the model-based ocean ship detector are verified.

An improved method based on a genetic algorithm (GA) is developed to design a broadband electrical impedance matching network for piezoelectric ultrasound transducer. A key feature of the new method is that it can optimize both the topology of the matching network and perform optimization on the components. The main idea of this method is to find the optimal matching network in a set of candidate topologies. Some successful experiences of classical algorithms are absorbed to limit the size of the set of candidate topologies and greatly simplify the calculation process. Both binary-coded GA and real-coded GA are used for topology optimization and components optimization, respectively. Some calculation strategies, such as elitist strategy and clearing niche method, are adopted to make sure that the algorithm can converge to the global optimal result. Simulation and experimental results prove that matching networks with better performance might be achieved by this improved method.

Some calculation strategies, such as elitist strategy and clearing niche method, are adopted during optimization to make sure that the algorithm can convergence to global optimal result. Simulation results show that the new method has advantages over designing complex impedance matching network.

This paper proposes a cooperative distributed extremum seeking control (ESC) approach for solving distributed optimization problems in static and dynamical multiagent systems, where the agents' coupled dynamics are unknown and only local cost values can be measured. The approach begins with each agent estimating the local gradient information of the unknown local cost function through recursive identification usingmeasured local cost values. Subsequently, the distributed identification-gradient tracking (DIGT) algorithm is employed to enable each agent to track the global gradient information of the global cost function, utilizing the estimated local gradient information from itself and its neighbors in the network. The proposed cooperative distributed ESC method enables the multiagent system to reach the extreme point of the global cost function under model-free scenarios. Furthermore, the convergence properties of the approach are established for both static and dynamical multiagent systems. Finally, numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and stability of the proposed approach. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
