Abstract The clinical significance and comprehensive characteristics of chemokines and chemokine receptors in female patients with advanced colorectal adenocarcinoma have not ever been reported. Our study explored the expression profiles of chemokines and chemokine receptors and constructed a chemokine- and chemokine receptor-based signature in female patients with advanced colorectal adenocarcinoma. Four independent cohorts containing 1335 patients were enrolled in our study. Univariate Cox regression and least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) analyses were performed to construct the signature. CIBERSORT was used to evaluate the landscape of immune cell infiltration. Thirty-two pairs of tissue specimens of female advanced colorectal cancer (CRC) patients and two CRC cell lines were used to validate the signature in vitro. Quantitative real-time PCR and western blotting were performed to validate the mRNA and protein expression levels of signature genes. EdU and colony formation assays were performed to examine proliferative ability. Transwell and wound healing assays were used to evaluate cell invasion and migration capacity. During the signature construction and validation process, we found that the signature was more applicable to female patients with advanced colorectal adenocarcinoma. Hence, the subsequent study mainly focused on the particular subgroup. Enrichment analyses revealed that the signature was closely related to immunity. The landscape of immune cell infiltration presented that the signature was significantly associated with T cells CD8 and neutrophils. Gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) confirmed that the high-risk group was chiefly enriched in the tumor-promoting related pathways and biological processes, whereas the low-risk group was mainly enriched in anti-tumor immune response pathways and biological processes. The signature was closely correlated with CTLA4, PDL1, PDL2, TMB, MSI, and TIDE, indicating that our signature could serve as a robust biomarker for immunotherapy and chemotherapy response. ROC curves verified that our signature had more robust prognostic power than all immune checkpoints and immunotherapy-related biomarkers. Finally, we used 32 pairs of tissue specimens and 2 CRC cell lines to validate our signature in vitro. We first provided a robust prognostic chemokine- and chemokine receptor-based signature, which could serve as a novel biomarker for immunotherapy and chemotherapy response to guide individualized treatment for female patients with advanced colorectal adenocarcinoma.

Molybdenum (Mo) is a rare and important element extensively utilised in aerospace, radar communications, optoelectronic devices, and the military. This study proposes an environmentally friendly physical method based on photon–phonon resonance absorption for the separation of Mo from sodium molybdate (Na2MoO4). We examined the vibrational spectrum of Na2MoO4 using the CASTEP code, employing first-principles density functional theory. Through dynamic process analysis, we analysed the vibrational modes and assigned peaks corresponding to experimental infrared (IR) and Raman data. We focused on the vibrational modes associated with Mo and identified that the highest-intensity IR-active peak at 858 cm−1 corresponded to Mo–O bond asymmetric stretching. Therefore, we propose the use of a high-power terahertz laser at ~25 THz to facilitate the separation of Mo from Na2MoO4. Experimental investigations are expected in the future.

Photosynthetic induction and stomatal kinetics are acknowledged as pivotal factors in regulating both plant growth and water use efficiency under fluctuating light conditions. However, the considerable variability in methodologies and light regimes used to assess the dynamics of photosynthesis (A) and stomatal conductance (gs) during light induction across studies poses challenges for comparison across species. Moreover, the influence of stomatal morphology on both steady-state and non-steady-state gs remains poorly understood. In this study, we show the strong impact of IRGA Chamber Illumination and Whole Plant Illumination on the photosynthetic induction of two rice species. Our findings reveal that these illuminations significantly enhance photosynthetic induction by modulating both stomatal and biochemical processes. Moreover, we observed that a higher density of smaller stomata plays a critical role in enhancing the stomatal opening and photosynthetic induction to fluctuating light conditions, although it exerts minimal influence on steady-state gs and A under constant light conditions. Therefore, future studies aiming to estimate photosynthetic induction and stomatal kinetics should consider the light environments at both the leaf and whole plant levels.

Abstract Continuous de novo fatty acid synthesis is required for the biosynthetic demands of tumor. FBXW7 is a highly mutated gene in CRC, but its biological functions in cancer are not fully characterized. Here, we report that FBXW7β, a FBXW7 isoform located in the cytoplasm and frequently mutated in CRC, is an E3 ligase of fatty acid synthase (FASN). Cancer-specific FBXW7β mutations that could not degrade FASN can lead to sustained lipogenesis in CRC. COP9 signalosome subunit 6 (CSN6), an oncogenic marker of CRC, increases lipogenesis via interacting with and stabilizing FASN. Mechanistic studies show that CSN6 associates with both FBXW7β and FASN, and antagonizes FBXW7β’s activity by enhancing FBXW7β autoubiquitination and degradation, which in turn prevents FBXW7β-mediated FASN ubiquitination and degradation, thereby regulating lipogenesis positively. Both CSN6 and FASN are positively correlated in CRC, and CSN6-FASN axis, regulated by EGF, is responsible for poor prognosis of CRC. The EGF-CSN6-FASN axis promotes tumor growth and implies a treatment strategy of combination of orlistat and cetuximab. Patient-derived xenograft experiments prove the effectiveness of employing orlistat and cetuximab combination in suppressing tumor growth for CSN6/FASN-high CRC. Thus, CSN6-FASN axis reprograms lipogenesis to promote tumor growth and is a target for cancer intervening strategy in CRC.

Chlorophyll content and fluorescence parameters are crucial indicators to evaluate the light use efficiency in rice; however, the correlations among these parameters and the underlying genetic mechanisms remain poorly understood. Here, to clarify these issues, we conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS) on 225 rice accessions. In the phenotypic and Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis, a weak negative correlation was observed between the chlorophyll content and actual quantum yield of photosystem II (ΦII). The phenotypic diversity observed in SPAD, NPQt, ΦNPQ, and Fv/Fm among accessions was affected by genetic background. Furthermore, the GWAS identified 78 SNPs and 17 candidate genes significantly associated with SPAD, NPQt, ΦII, ΦNPQ, qL and qP. Combining GWAS on 225 rice accessions with transcriptome analysis of two varieties exhibiting distinct fluorescence characteristics revealed two potential candidate genes (Os03g0583000 from ΦII & qP traits and Os06g0587200 from NPQt trait), which are respectively associated with peroxisomes, and protein kinase catalytic domains might involve in regulating the chlorophyll content and chlorophyll fluorescence. This study provides novel insights into the correlation among chlorophyll content and fluorescence parameters and the genetic mechanisms in rice, and offers valuable information for the breeding of rice with enhanced photosynthetic efficiency.

The representational image of the city has attracted people’s long-term attention. Nevertheless, the mechanism of interaction between the image and the built environment (BE) and image studies at the town scale have not been fully explored. In this study, we collected multi-source data from 26 characteristic towns in Tianjin, China. We explored a deep learning approach to recognize social media data, which led to the development of quantifiable town uniqueness image (UI) variables. We studied the influence of the BE on the town UI and the moderating effects of positive emotions on the relationship between the two. The results showed that positive emotions had significantly positive moderating effects on the water system ratio’s effect on UI, but weakened sidewalk density and tourist attraction density. They also inhibited the negative effects of road connectivity but could strengthen the negative effects of the sky view factor and points of interest (POI) mix. The moderating effects on other variables are relatively mediocre. This study helps to reveal the inner mechanism of BE and town image. It is conducive to accurately coordinating the relationship between planning policies and design strategies, optimizing resource allocation, and promoting sustainable town development.

Summary: A hypoxic microenvironment contributes to tumor progression, with hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) being a critical regulator. We have reported that 14-3-3σ is negatively associated with HIF-1α expression; however, its role in hypoxia-induced tumor progression remains poorly characterized. Here we show that 14-3-3σ suppresses cancer hypoxia-induced metastasis and angiogenesis in colorectal cancer (CRC). 14-3-3σ opposes HIF-1α expression by regulating the protein stability of HIF-1α, thereby decreasing HIF-1α transcriptional activity and suppressing tumor progression. Mechanistic studies show that the 14-3-3σ-interacting protein neural precursor cell-expressed developmentally down-regulated 4-like (NEDD4L) is an E3 ligase that targets HIF-1α. 14-3-3σ promotes the binding of S448-phosphorylated NEDD4L to HIF-1α, thereby enhancing HIF-1α poly-ubiquitination and subsequent proteasome-mediated degradation. Consistent with this anti-tumorigenic function for 14-3-3σ, low 14-3-3σ expression levels correlate with poor CRC patient survival, and 14-3-3σ enhances the response of CRC to bevacizumab. These results reveal an important mechanism for 14-3-3σ in tumor suppression through HIF-1α regulation.

Cl, Br, and I are elements in the halogen family, and are often used as dopants in semiconductors. When employed as dopants, these halogens can significantly modify the optoelectronic properties of materials. From the perspective of halogen doping, we have successfully achieved the stabilization of crystal structures in CH3NH3PbX3, CH3NH3PbI3−xClx, CH3NH3PbI3−xBrx, and CH3NH3PbBr3−xClx, which are organic–inorganic hybrid perovskites. Utilizing first-principles density functional theory calculations with the CASTEP module, we investigated the optoelectronic properties of these structures by simulations. According to the calculations, a smaller difference in electronegativity between different halogens in doped structures can result in smoother energy bands, especially in CH3NH3PbI3−xBrx and CH3NH3PbBr3−xClx. The PDOS of the Cl-3p orbitals undergoes a shift along the energy axis as a result of variances in electronegativity levels. The optoelectronic performance, carrier mobility, and structural stability of the CH3NH3PbBr3−xClx system are superior to other systems like CH3NH3PbX3. Among many materials considered, CH3NH3PbBr2Cl exhibits higher carrier mobility and a relatively narrower bandgap, making it a more suitable material for the absorption layer in solar cells. This study provides valuable insights into the methodology employed for the selection of specific types, quantities, and positions of halogens for further research on halogen doping.

Abstract Background An increasing number of studies have shown that immune-related long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) do not require a unique expression level. This finding may help predict the survival and drug sensitivity of patients with colon cancer. Methods We retrieved original transcriptome and clinical data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), sorted the data, differentiated mRNAs and lncRNAs, and then downloaded immune-related genes. Coexpression analysis predicted immune-related lncRNAs (irlncRNAs) and univariate analysis identified differentially expressed irlncRNAs (DEirlncRNAs). We have also amended the lasso pending region. Next, we compared the areas under the curve (AUCs), counted the Akaike information standard (AIC) value of the 3-year receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, and determined the cutoff point to establish the best model to differentiate the high or low disease risk group of colon cancer patients. Results We reevaluated the patients regarding the survival rate, clinicopathological features, tumor-infiltrating immune cells, immunosuppressive biomarkers, and chemosensitivity. A total of 155 irlncRNA pairs were confirmed, 31 of which were involved in the Cox regression model. After the colon cancer patients were regrouped according to the cutoff point, we could better distinguish the patients based on adverse survival outcomes, invasive clinicopathological features, the specific tumor immune cell infiltration status, high expression of immunosuppressive biomarkers, and low chemosensitivity. Conclusions In this study, we established a characteristic model by pairing irlncRNAs to better predict the survival rate, chemotherapy efficacy, and prognostic value of patients with colon cancer.

NOP56 is a highly conserved nucleolar protein. Amplification of the intron GGCCTG hexanucleotide repeat sequence of the NOP56 gene results in spinal cerebellar ataxia type 36 (SCA36). NOP56 contains an N-terminal domain, a coiled-coil domain, and a C-terminal domain. Nucleolar protein NOP56 is significantly abnormally expressed in a number of malignant tumors, and its mechanism is different in different tumors, but its regulatory mechanism in most tumors has not been fully explored. NOP56 promotes tumorigenesis in some cancers and inhibits tumorigenesis in others. In addition, NOP56 is associated with methylation in some tumors, suggesting that NOP56 has the potential to become a tumor-specific marker. This review focuses on the structure, function, related signaling pathways, and role of NOP56 in the progression of various malignancies, and discusses the progression of NOP56 in neurodegenerative and other diseases.

The theory of electron spin has been proposed for a century, but the study of quantum effects in biological molecules is still in its infancy. Chirality-induced spin selectivity (CISS) is a very modern theory that can explain many biochemical phenomena. In this paper, we propose a new theoretical model based on CISS theory and quantum chemistry theory, which can well explain the theoretical explanation of the chiral selectivity of chiral proteins. Moreover, this theory can predict the spin state of corresponding chiral molecules. Taking the L-DOPA and AADC enzymes as examples, this theoretical model elucidates the AADC enzyme’s chiral catalysis selectivity and successfully predicts the spin state of L-DOPA and D-DOPA’s valence electrons.

Two-dimensional (2D) ice I is atomic-level ice that is composed of two interlocked atomic layers saturated with hydrogen bonds. It has recently been experimentally observed, but its properties have yet to be clarified. Accordingly, we theoretically studied the hydrophobic properties of 2D ice I. On the contrary, a simulation of a hydrogen fluoride molecule on a 2D ice surface manifested that it destroyed the 2D ice structure and connected new hydrogen bonds with water molecules. Investigations of the interfacial effect between 2D and three-dimensional (3D) ice films indicated that the network structure of 2D ice was not destroyed by a 3D ice surface, as the former was saturated with hydrogen bonds. However, the surface of 3D ice reorganized to form as many hydrogen bonds as possible. Thus, the 2D ice film was hydrophobic and inhibited the growth of 3D ice. This shows that if 2D ice can be produced on an industrial scale, it can be used as an anti-3D-icing agent under low temperatures.

Abstract Background: Metastasis of colorectal cancer (CRC) extremely affects the prognosis of CRC patients. Recently, the genetic methylation has been shown to associate with tumor metastasis. This research aimed to explore the Syk gene, which is frequently hypermethylated in different cancers, and its impact on the metastasis of CRC cells. Methods: We employed the UALCAN database for the detection of the methylation levels of Syk in different cancers. CIBERSORT, TIMER and TISIDB tools were employed to analyze the association of Syk expression with immune features of CRC. Treatment with decitabine has been noted to restore the expression of Syk in CRC cells. The invasion and migration abilities of CRC cell lines were determined using transwell and wound healing assays. The correlation between Syk and c‐Myc was established using the GEPIA2 database and Western blot assays. ​Results: Our results, based on UALCAN, revealed that the methylation level of Syk was altered in diverse cancers including colon adenocarcinoma. We found that expression profile and methylation level of Syk was correlated with immune features of colon adenocarcinoma. Decitabine can restore the expression of Syk in HCT116 and SW480 cells, hence affecting their migration and invasion. Results from GEPIA2 showed that Syk expression was correlated with c‐Myc, while Western blotting analysis revealed a negative association between the expression level of Syk and c‐Myc. ​Conclusions:​ ​This study demonstrates that the expression of Syk could be restored by decitabine in colorectal cancer, thus affecting the migration and invasion abilities of CRC cells.

Abstract The hypoxic tumor microenvironment promotes tumor survival by inducing the expression of genes involved in angiogenesis and metastasis. As a direct target of hypoxia‐inducible factor, lysine demethylase 4B (KDM4B) is overexpressed in multiple cancers, suggesting that a general KDM4B regulatory mechanism may exist in these cancer types. In this study, we sought to further investigate the general and unique roles of KDM4B in ovarian, colon, and renal cancer cells. We first identified a set of potential KDM4B targets shared by SKOV3ip.1, HCT116, and RCC4 cell lines, as well as numerous genes specifically regulated in each cell line. Through Gene Ontology, KEGG, and Oncobox pathway analyses, we found that KDM4B primarily regulated biosynthetic and cell cycle pathways in normoxia, whereas in hypoxia, it regulated pathways associated with inflammatory response and migration. TCGA data analyses reveal high expression of KDM4B in multiple cancer types and differential expression across cancer stages. Kaplan–Meier plots suggest that elevated KDM4B expression may contribute to a better or worse prognosis in a manner specific to each cancer type. Overall, our findings suggest that KDM4B plays complex roles in regulating multiple cancer processes, providing a useful resource for the future development of cancer therapies that target KDM4B expression.

Resilience is an important indicator for measuring regional sustainable development capacity. The construction of a suitable evaluation indicator system is the premise of evaluating regional sustainable development. In this study, taking the Jiansanjiang Administration of Heilongjiang Province in China as an example, a preliminary selection library of the evaluation indicator system for the resilience of a regional agricultural soil–water resource composite system covering seven subsystems and 59 indicators was established. Selection criteria such as the Dale indicator criteria, subjective and objective combination weighting and principal component analysis were introduced to construct an optimization model for the resilience evaluation indicator system for the ASWRS. First, 14 indicators that were incomplete or incapable were removed. Then, the Dale indicator selection criteria were used to ensure that 14 indicators were selected. The binary fuzzy comparison method and criteria importance through interference correlation method were used to calculate the combination weight. Finally, an indicator system optimization model was established. The indicator system was optimized from 59 to 35 indicators, and the completeness of the indicator system reached 85.75%. The proposed method had obvious advantages in terms of indicator identification and elimination, and it may truly achieve the goal of indicator optimization. BackgroundHepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common malignancies in the world, with high incidence, high malignancy, and low survival rate. Cuproptosis is a novel form of cell death mediated by lipoylated TCA cycle proteins-mediated novel cell death pathway and is highly associated with mitochondrial metabolism. However, the relationship between the expression level of cuproptosis-related genes (CRGs) and the prognosis of HCC is still unclear.MethodsCombining the HCC transcriptomic data from The Cancer Genome Atlas(TCGA) and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) databases, we identified the differentially expressed cuproptosis-related genes (DECRGs) and obtained the prognosis-related DECRGs through univariate regression analysis.LASSO and multivariate COX regression analyses of these DECRGs yielded four genes that were used to construct the signature. Next, we use ROC curves to evaluate the performance of signatures. The tumor microenvironment, immune infiltration, tumor mutation load, half-maximum suppression concentration, and immunotherapy effects were also compared between the low-risk and high-risk groups. Finally, we analyzed the expression level, prognosis, and immune infiltration correlation on the four genes that constructed the model.ResultsFour DECRGs s were used to construct the signature. The ROC curves indicated that signature can better assess the prognosis of HCC patients. Patients were grouped according to the signature risk score. Patients in the low-risk group had a significantly longer survival time than those in the high-risk group. Furthermore, the tumor mutation burden (TMB) values were associated with the risk score and the higher-risk group had a higher proportion of TP53 mutations than the low-risk group.ESTIMATE analysis showed significant differences in stromal scores between the two groups.N6-methyladenosine (m6A) and multiple immune checkpoints were expressed at higher levels in the high-risk group. Then, we found that signature score correlated with chemotherapeutic drug sensitivity and immunotherapy efficacy in HCC patients. Finally, we further confirmed that the four DECRGs genes were associated with the prognosis of HCC through external validation.ConclusionsWe studied from the cuproptosis perspective and developed a new prognostic feature to predict the prognosis of HCC patients. This signature with good performance will help physicians to evaluate the overall prognosis of patients and may provide new ideas for clinical decision-making and treatment strategies.

Abstract In this paper, a novel silicon carbide (SiC) trench metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor (MOSFET) with improved reverse recovery charge and switching energy loss is proposed and investigated utilising ISE‐TCAD simulations. The proposed structure features an integrated Schottky barrier diode on one side‐wall of the trench below the P‐base region, and an inserted thicker oxide layer between the polysilicon gate and source metal on one side‐wall of the trench. The simulation results show that compared with Infineon's CoolSiC™ Trench MOSFET, the proposed device decreases the gate charge Qg by 29.2%, leading to significantly improved figures of merit (Ron,sp × Qg). The reverse recovery charge Qrr and peak reverse recovery current (IRRM) are reduced by 64.1% and 66.0%, respectively. Meanwhile, the total switching energy loss decreases 36.7% for the dynamic performance.

N4-acetylcytidine (ac4C) is an ancient and conserved RNA modification. Previously, ac4C mRNA modification has been reported promoting proliferation and metastasis of tumor cells. However, it remains unclear whether and how ac4C-related mRNA modification patterns influencing the prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. Hereby, we constructed an ac4Cscore model and classified patients into two groups and investigated the potential intrinsic and extrinsic characteristics of tumor. The ac4Cscore model, including COL15A1, G6PD and TP53I3, represented ac4C-related mRNA modification patterns in HCC. According to ac4Cscore, patients were stratified to high and low groups with distinct prognosis. Patients subject to high group was related to advanced tumor stage, higher TP53 mutation rate, higher tumor stemness, more activated pathways in DNA-repair system, lower stromal score, higher immune score and higher infiltrating of T cells regulatory. While patients attributed to low group were correlated with abundance of T cells CD4 memory, less aggressive immune subtype and durable therapy benefit. We also found ac4Cscore as a novel marker to predict patients’ prognosis with anti-PD1 immunotherapy and/or mTOR inhibitor treatment. Our study for the first time showed the association between ac4C-related mRNA modification patterns and tumor intrinsic and extrinsic characteristics, thus influencing the prognosis of patients.

BackgroundGenomic instability (GI) plays a crucial role in the development of various cancers including hepatocellular carcinoma. Hence, it is meaningful for us to use long non-coding RNAs related to genomic instability to construct a prognostic signature for patients with HCC.MethodsCombining the lncRNA expression profiles and somatic mutation profiles in The Cancer Genome Atlas database, we identified GI-related lncRNAs (GILncRNAs) and obtained the prognosis-related GILncRNAs through univariate regression analysis. These lncRNAs obtained risk coefficients through multivariate regression analysis for constructing GI-associated lncRNA signature (GILncSig). ROC curves were used to evaluate signature performance. The International Cancer Genomics Consortium (ICGC) cohort, and in vitro experiments were used for signature external validation. Immunotherapy efficacy, tumor microenvironments, the half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50), and immune infiltration were compared between the high- and low-risk groups with TIDE, ESTIMATE, pRRophetic, and ssGSEA program.ResultsFive GILncRNAs were used to construct a GILncSig. It was confirmed that the GILncSig has good prognostic evaluation performance for patients with HCC by drawing a time-dependent ROC curve. Patients were divided into high- and low-risk groups according to the GILncSig risk score. The prognosis of the low-risk group was significantly better than that of the high-risk group. Independent prognostic analysis showed that the GILncSig could independently predict the prognosis of patients with HCC. In addition, the GILncSig was correlated with the mutation rate of the HCC genome, indicating that it has the potential to measure the degree of genome instability. In GILncSig, LUCAT1 with the highest risk factor was further validated as a risk factor for HCC in vitro. The ESTIMATE analysis showed a significant difference in stromal scores and ESTIMATE scores between the two groups. Multiple immune checkpoints had higher expression levels in the high-risk group. The ssGSEA results showed higher levels of tumor-antagonizing immune cells in the low-risk group compared with the high-risk group. Finally, the GILncSig score was associated with chemotherapeutic drug sensitivity and immunotherapy efficacy of patients with HCC.ConclusionOur research indicates that GILncSig can be used for prognostic evaluation of patients with HCC and provide new insights for clinical decision-making and potential therapeutic strategies.

BackgroundGenomic instability (GI) is a critical feature of cancer which plays a key role in the occurrence and development of pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PAAD). Long non-coding RNA (LncRNA) is an emerging prognostic biomarker because it is involved in regulating GI. Recently, researchers used such GI-related LncRNAs (GILncRNAs) to establish a prognostic signature for patients with cancer and helped in predicting the overall prognosis of the patients. However, it is evident that patients with PAAD still lack such prognostic signature constructed with GILncRNA.MethodsThe present study screened GILncRNAs from 83 patients with PAAD. Prognosis-related GILncRNAs were identified by univariate Cox regression analysis. The correlation coefficients of these GILncRNAs were obtained by multivariate Cox regression analysis and used to construct a signature. The signature in the present study was then assessed through survival analysis, mutation correlation analysis, independent prognostic analysis, and clinical stratification analysis in the training set and validated in the testing as well as all TCGA set. The current study performed external clinical relevance validation of the signature and validated the effect of AC108134.2 in GILncSig on PAAD using in vitro experiments. Finally, the function of GILncRNA signature (GILncSig) dependent on Gene Ontology enrichment analysis was explored and chemotherapeutic drug sensitivity analysis was also performed.ResultsResults of the present study found that a total of 409 GILncRNAs were identified, 5 of which constituted the prognostic risk signature in this study, namely, AC095057.3, AC108134.2, AC124798.1, AL606834.1, and AC104695.4. It was found that the signature of the present study was better than others in predicting the overall survival and applied to patients with PAAD of all ages, genders, and tumor grades. Further, it was noted that the signature of the current study in the GSE102238, was correlated with tumor length, and tumor stage of patients with PAAD. In vitro, functional experiments were used in the present study to validate that AC108134.2 is associated with PAAD genomic instability and progression. Notably, results of the pRRophetic analysis in the current study showed that the high-risk group possessed reverse characteristics and was sensitive to chemotherapy.ConclusionsIn conclusion, it was evident that the GILncSig used in the present study has good prognostic performance. Therefore, the signature may become a potential sensitive biological indicator of PAAD chemotherapy, which may help in clinical decision-making and management of patients with cancer.

Increasing the surface charge density of a triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) under a single energy source is of wide interest. Here, the authors increase the surface charge density by comprehensively utilizing solar energy and tidal energy to develop a bioinspired photoelectric-electromechanical integrated TENG.

Manipulating the photoprotective mechanism has been demonstrated to be an effective way to enhance the photosynthetic productivity of crop plants. NPQ(T) is a chlorophyll fluorescence parameter for rapid estimation and imaging of non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) of excitons in the photoprotective mechanism. However, the variation and genetic basis of NPQ(T) are rarely reported in the Oryza sativa L. In this study, we collected 173 rice cultivars and investigated the NPQ(T) value. We found that the NPQ(T) has a wide variation, although it had not been under-selected in the different subspecies. A genome-wide association study (GWAS) utilizing 1,566,981 high-quality SNPs identified three significant associated signals on chromosomes 02, 05, and 07. Furthermore, one likely candidate gene Os02g0184100, underlying the associated signal on chromosome 02, was uncovered by identifying the expression pattern in flag leaves and testing the correlation between functional polymorphisms and phenotypic variation. The significant SNPs and candidate genes identified in this study provide us a comprehensive understanding of the genetic architecture of NPQ(T) and could be used for genetic improvement of rice photoprotection.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common malignant tumors in the world. CRC recurrence and metastasis cause poor prognosis. ANGPTLs (angiopoietin-like proteins) are a family of proteins that are widely involved in metabolic disease and tumorigenesis. The roles of ANGPTLs in CRC are still controversial and deserve further research. In this study, several databases were employed to explore the expression profiles, prognostic values, genetic alterations, potential biological function, and immune infiltration correlation of ANGPTLs in CRC. The expression of ANGPTL4 was significantly positively correlated with the stage of CRC. Therefore, cell and molecular experiments were further performed to explore the roles of ANGPTL4. Our results showed that the transcriptions of ANGPTLs in colon cancer and rectal cancer tissues were lower than those in normal tissues, but the protein expression varied among different ANGPTLs. In addition, the high expression of ANGPTLs led to a relatively poor oncological outcome. Specifically, the expression of ANGPTL4 is significantly positively correlated with the stage of CRC. Further investigation revealed that ANGPTLs are mainly involved in signal transduction and the regulation of transcription, while KEGG pathway analyses demonstrated pathways in cancer. Additionally, we also observed that ANGPTL4 could promote the proliferation and migration of CRC cells, and four specific small molecule compounds had potential ANGPTL4-binding capabilities, suggesting the clinical application of these small molecule compounds on CRC treatment. Our findings imply the prognostic values and potential therapeutic targets of ANGPTLs in CRC.

Liver metastasis of colorectal cancer (LMCRC) severely damages patient health, causing poor prognosis and tumor relapse. Marker genes associated with LMCRC identified by previous study did not meet therapeutic demand. Therefore, it is necessary to identify new biomarkers regulating the metastasis network and screen potential drugs for future treatment. Here, we identified that cell adhesion molecules and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR) signaling pathway were significantly enriched by analyzing the integrated-multiple expression profiles. Moreover, analysis with robust rank aggregation approach revealed a total of 138 differentially expressed genes (DEGs), including 108 upexpressed and 30 downexpressed genes. With establishing protein–protein interaction network, we also identified the subnetwork significantly enriching the metastasis-associated hub genes including ALB, APOE, CDH2, and ORM1. ESR2, FOXO3, and SRY were determined as key transcription factors regulating hub genes. In addition, ADH-1, epigallocatechin, CHEMBL1945287, and cochinchinenin C were predicted as potential therapeutic drugs. Moreover, the antimigration capacity of ADH-1 and epigallocatechin were confirmed in CRC cell lines. In conclusion, our findings not only offer opportunities to understand metastasis mechanism but also identify potential therapeutic targets for CRC.

For wireless sensor networks, sensing data without location information are useless for future processing and decision-making systems. A wireless localization method can provide critical position information for the sensing data in the coverage field. Trilateration localization is applied widely in many systems due to its low cost and widespread availability. However, there are many negative factors that lead to low localization accuracy. Many improved versions of trilateration localization, including the weighted trilateration localization, the trilateration centroid localization, and other related methods, have been proposed to improve localization accuracy. However, these methods do not consider the influence mechanism of the negative factors, and the localization results are unsatisfactory. In this paper, considering the uncertainty propagation mechanism during trilateration localization, we propose an improved trilateration localization method with minimum uncertainty propagation and optimized selection of anchor nodes (ITL-MEPOSA). In this method, we consider the uncertainty propagation from distance estimation to localization calculation and evaluate the uncertainty propagation of each distance estimation result. Then, we utilize a single scan-sliding window with an optimized algorithm to select anchor nodes with minimum uncertainty propagation. Finally, based on the selected anchor nodes and their corresponding distance estimation results, an accurate localization result can be obtained through the least square criterion. The simulations and experimental results show that the proposed method can obtain high localization accuracy with acceptable efficiency.

The social networks as a complex set of networks fully reflect internal relations of individual interactions between them. Individual as an integral part of networks can show different functions under different levels. In the vast majority of current research realm of spatial evolutionary game, individuals who are often treated as identical peers interact with the local neighbours on a single, isolated same network, even the independent networks extended the content of spatial reciprocity. However, the individual diversity, including gender, wealth and social status and so on, usually is presented within the population. Individual heterogeneity impacts on the evolution of cooperation amongst selfish individuals. With this motivation, here we consider that two forms including Prisoner’s Dilemma (PD) and Snowdrift Game (SG) take place on interdependent weighted networks via the mixed-coupling in which individuals participate in different networks of interactions, cooperative behaviour can be maintained. Remarkably, the numerical analysis shows that, as the network interdependence considering individual diversity increases, cooperation thrives on one network joining in PD, the other engaging in SG may be plagued by defectors. Meanwhile, there exists an optimal region of mixed-coupling between networks to persist in cooperation of one network. Furthermore, individual diversity may be a link between non-trivial systems across the network connection, thus probing in how to schedule heterogeneous competitive tasks and services in complex manufacturing systems.

In this paper, a kind of green triboelectric nano-generator based on natural degradable cellulose is proposed. Different kinds of regenerated cellulose composite layers are prepared by a blending doping method, and then assembled with poly(tetrafluoroethylene) (PTFE) thin films to form tribioelectric nanogenerator (TENG). The results show that the open circuit output voltage and the short circuit output current using a pure cellulose membrane is 7.925 V and 1.095 μA. After adding a certain amount of polyamide (PA6)/polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF)/barium titanate (BaTiO3), the open circuit output voltage peak and the peak short circuit output current increases by 254.43% (to 20.155 V) and 548.04% (to 6.001 μA). The surface morphology, elemental composition and functional group of different cellulose layers are characterized by Scanning Electronic Microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and tested by the electrochemical analyze. Moreover, after multiple assembly and rectification processing, the electrical output performance shows that the peak value of open-circuit output voltage and the peak value of short circuit output current increases by 132.06% and 116.13%. Within 500 s of the charge-discharge test, the single peak charge reached 3.114 V, and the two peak charges reached 3.840 V. The results demonstrate that the nano-generator based on cellulose showed good stability and reliability, and the application and development of natural biomaterials represented by cellulose are greatly promoted in miniature electronic sensing area.

In this study, effects of different pretreatment methods on the enzymatic digestibility of Pennisetum alopecuroides, a ubiquitous wild grass in China, were investigated to evaluate its potential as a feedstock for biofuel production. The stalk samples were separately pretreated with H2SO4, NaOH and FeCl3 solutions of different concentrations at 120 °C for 30 min, after which enzymatic hydrolysis was conducted to measure the digestibility of pretreated samples. Results demonstrated that different pretreatments were effective at removing hemicellulose, among which ferric chloride pretreatment (FCP) gave the highest soluble sugar recovery (200.2 mg/g raw stalk) from the pretreatment stage. In comparison with FCP and dilute acid pretreatment (DAP), dilute alkaline pretreatment (DALP) induced much higher delignification and stronger morphological changes of the biomass, making it more accessible to hydrolysis enzymes. As a result, DALP using 1.2% NaOH showed the highest total soluble sugar yield through the whole process from pretreatment to enzymatic hydrolysis (508.5 mg/g raw stalk). The present work indicates that DALP and FCP have the potential to enhance the effective bioconversion of lignocellulosic biomass like P. alopecuroides, hence making this material a valuable and promising energy plant.
