The scope of this article is to analyze the temporal trend and macro-regional distribution of the options on offer in terms of collective activities of bodily practices and physical activities (BPPA) and the number of participants in primary health care, developed by all health professionals and by Physical Education Professionals in Brazil. It involved an ecological time-series study, using data from the Health Information System for Primary Health Care (Sisab) between 2014 and 2022, which was assessed using regression analysis and Joinpoint software. At the national level, the results revealed an increase in the number of collective BPPA activities and participants in primary health care developed by all health professionals and by Physical Education Professionals between 2014 and 2019, followed by a reduction in both in 2020. The upward trend resumed in 2021 and 2022. The conclusion drawn is that, despite the exceptional scenario caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, upward trends have been identified in both the options on offer of collective BPPA activities and in the number of participants.

Objective: To identify and describe pollutants with carcinogenic potential that contaminate indoor and outdoor air, food and soil., Data Source: The descriptors environmental pollutants, occupational cancer, prevention and soil pollutants were used to conduct the research for literature review. Articles published from 2003 to 2024 in the electronic databases Pubmed Medline, Lilacs and Scielo, in Portuguese and English, were included., Summary of Findings: There are multiple sources of pollution in the external and internal environments, including motor vehicles, industrial facilities, smoke from tobacco products, agricultural activities, fires and domestic combustion devices. The most important pollutants related to chemical substances include all forms of asbestos, benzene, exhaust gases from gasoline engines, food and water contaminants, such as arsenic and inorganic arsenic compounds, in addition to persistent organic pollutants, such as dioxins. The use of fossil fuels and biomass for domestic heating are also important sources of pollution. The carcinogenic potential of pollutants varies according to the sources of pollution, climate conditions and the region's topography., Conclusions: Global environmental pollution is an international public health problem with multiple health effects. Many environmental pollutants are proven to be carcinogenic to adults, while few causes have been scientifically established for children. Pollution is mainly caused by uncontrolled urbanization and industrialization. Introduction: Growth failure in chronic kidney disease is related to high morbidity and mortality. Growth retardation in this disease is multifactorial. Knowing the modifiable factors and establishing strategies to improve care for affected children is paramount., Objectives: To describe growth patterns in children with chronic kidney disease and the risk factors associated with short stature., Methods: We retrospectively analyzed anthropometric and epidemiological data, birth weight, prematurity, and bicarbonate, hemoglobin, calcium, phosphate, alkaline phosphatase, and parathormone levels of children with stages 3-5 CKD not on dialysis, followed for at least one year., Results: We included 43 children, the majority of which were boys (65%). The mean height/length /age z-score of the children at the beginning and follow-up was -1.89 ± 1.84 and -2.4 ± 1.67, respectively (p = 0.011). Fifty-one percent of the children had short stature, and these children were younger than those with adequate stature (p = 0.027). PTH levels at the beginning of the follow-up correlated with height/length/age z-score. A sub-analysis with children under five (n = 17) showed that 10 (58.8%) of them failed to thrive and had a lower weight/age z-score (0.031) and lower BMI/age z-score (p = 0.047)., Conclusion: Children, particularly younger ones, with chronic kidney disease who were not on dialysis had a high prevalence of short stature. PTH levels were correlated with height z-score, and growth failure was associated with worse nutritional status. Therefore, it is essential to monitor the growth of these children, control hyperparathyroidism, and provide nutritional support.

A previous optimization of supercritical extraction from guarana seeds was performed applying orthogonal array design (OA9(34)). The antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of these extracts, as well as metabolomic profiling and correlations from the compounds by statistical analysis were determined. Extracts 1 (40% ethanol; 20 min; 40 °C and 100 bar), 2 (40% methanol; 60 min; 40 °C and 200 bar), and 8 (40% methanol; 40 min; 60 °C and 100 bar) had the highest combined values of antioxidant capacity for the DPPH, FRAP, ABTS and xanthine oxidase system methods, and were identified by chemometric analysis. Similar chemical profiles of the extracts were obtained by LC-DAD-MS, and were identified: methyl-xanthine, (epi)catechin and dimers and trimers of type A and B proanthocyanidins. The heat map analysis showed positive correlation between antioxidant methods DPPH, FRAP and ABTS and with flavan-3-ols and proanthocyanidins. Extract 3 was active against Gram-negative and -positive bacteria and Candida tropicalis .

Longitudinal monitoring of indicators of accidental falls can facilitate the planning of effective care and prevention actions. This article aims to analyze temporal trends in variables related to falls among older persons in Brazil and in the state of São Paulo during the period 2000-2020 and estimate the projected economic burden on the health system in 2025. We conducted a quantitative retrospective observational study using data from the Health Information System. The Joinpoint Regression Program version 4.7.0 and SPSS version 20.0 were used to perform linear regression and calculate the Average Annual Percent Change (AAPC), adopting a 95% confidence interval. There was an increase in mean and total admissions costs due to falls at national level in both intervals of the study period. There was an increase in total admissions costs and the total number of admissions due to falls in the state of São Paulo (AAPC of 8.5% and 4.3%, respectively). Projections for the year 2025 suggest that the total number of admissions due to falls in Brazil will be around 150,000, resulting in costs of approximately R$ 260 million. There was an increase in the variables analyzed by this study, revealing the importance of fall prevention programs associated with national public policies.

Objective: To investigate whether family participation in intensive care unit interdisciplinary bedside rounds affects family satisfaction., Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at a 56-bed, adult, mixed intensive care unit of a tertiary hospital in Southern Brazil. From May to June 2019, family members of patients who stayed in the intensive care unit for at least 48 hours were invited to participate in the study at the time of patient discharge. The main exposure variable was participation in intensive care unit bedside rounds during the intensive care unit stay. Family satisfaction was assessed by using the Brazilian version of the Family Satisfaction in the Intensive Care Unit questionnaire., Results: Of the 234 screened individuals, 118 were included. Eleven participants withdrew consent. A total of 107 individuals were assessed; 58 (54%) reported being present during bedside rounds, and 49 (46%) reported never being present. General satisfaction and satisfaction with the decision-making process were higher among families who were present during rounds than among families who were not (p = 0.01 and p = 0.007, respectively)., Conclusion: The presence during interdisciplinary rounds was associated with improved general satisfaction and satisfaction with the decision-making aspect. This outcome indicates that efforts must be directed to conduct studies with more robust methodologies to confirm this association.

Brazilian biodiversity includes species of the genus Solanum that have several biological activities, in addition to their relevance to agriculture, economics and popular medicine. The ripe fruits of Solanum lycocapum are an important nutritional food source, since they have levels of vitamin C, total soluble sugars, sucrose, phosphorus, and iron comparable or exceed the levels present in fruits such as pineapples, bananas, oranges, and mangoes. The pulp of the fruit is consumed by the population, and it is also used to produce jellies; to make marmalade, replacing the quince, and it can also be mixed with peaches in the preparation of peach. The objective of this study was to evaluate the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activities of fractions obtained from the ripe fruits and to identify the constituents with these biological properties. The ripe fruits were collected, dried, crushed, and subjected to extraction by exhaustive percolation, obtaining an ethanol extract that was partitioned with solvents of increasing polarities, obtaining hexane (HEX), ethyl acetate (AC), and hydroethanol (HE) fractions. The AC fraction showed higher antioxidant potential compared to BHT (2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol) and similar activity to AA (ascorbic acid) by DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) radical assay, while HEX and HE fractions exhibited of IC 50 values similar to BHT. The AC fraction also presented similar activity to BHT by FRAP (Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power) test. Intraperitoneal treatment with HEX (100 and 300 mg/kg) and HE (100 mg/kg) fractions caused significant inhibition of paw edema induced by carrageenan, 4 and 6 h after the inflammatory stimuli. When analyzed by GC-MS, fatty acids, phytosterols, and triterpenoid were identified in the HEX fraction, whilst 31 compounds were annotated in the AC and HE fractions analyzed by LC-DAD-MS, being phenylpropanoid derivatives, chlorogenic acids, and steroidal glycoalkaloids. The ripe fruits of S. lycocarpum have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, and the detected chemical compounds, especially caffeoylquinic acid derivatives, spermidine, stigmasterol, and β-sitosterol, may be correlated with these activities. The aim of the current article is to identify scientific evidence about advances, possibilities, and challenges of using the Back Home Program (BHP) to deinstitutionalize former psychiatric hospitalization patients. This study is an integrative review based on the scientific literature available in the Virtual Health Library and the PubMed portal, as well as in the Cinahl, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, Scopus, and PsycINFO databases. The analysis of all nine selected studies was based on the interpretation of discursive practices observed in public domain materials. Results have shown that the investigated program is an undeniable social achievement and civilizing advance, and that it contributes to deinstitutionalization, as it helps to change beneficiaries' lives, with emphasis on their new consolidated place in society and on the dispensability of psychiatric hospitals. However, the program needs to overcome some challenges, such as access and equitable distribution in the national territory, professional training, and the involvement of individuals in the appropriation of benefits. It is crucial to emphasize the need to develop strategies to promote autonomy, citizenship, access to a broad mental health network of assistance and care resources, patients' return to family life, and insertion in the labor market.

Objective: To contribute to updating the recommendations for brain-dead potential organ donor management., Methods: A group of 27 experts, including intensivists, transplant coordinators, transplant surgeons, and epidemiologists, answered questions related to the following topics were divided into mechanical ventilation, hemodynamics, endocrine-metabolic management, infection, body temperature, blood transfusion, and checklists use. The outcomes considered were cardiac arrests, number of organs removed or transplanted as well as function / survival of transplanted organs. The quality of evidence of the recommendations was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation system to classify the recommendations., Results: A total of 19 recommendations were drawn from the expert panel. Of these, 7 were classified as strong, 11 as weak and 1 was considered a good clinical practice., Conclusion: Despite the agreement among panel members on most recommendations, the grade of recommendation was mostly weak.

Paullinia cupana Kunth, commonly known as guarana, is a native Brazilian plant species from the Amazon area that presents various biological effects, including antimicrobial action. The aim of this study was to chemically analyse the semipurified aqueous extract (AqF) of the plant and to evaluate the activity of crude (CE), ethyl-acetate (EAF), and AqF extracts against Helicobacter pylori . The chemical profile of AqF was determined based on solid analysis 13 C-NMR, direct infusion mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), and MALDI-TOF. The 13 C-NMR spectrum showed characteristics of flavan-3-ol and oligomeric proanthocyanidins. ESI-MS revealed the presence of procyanidin, caffeic acid and its derivatives. MALDI-TOF analysis detected procyanidins of up to 6 units and profisetinidins of up to 5 units. Whereas CE and EAF showed inhibitory activity against H. pylori , CE, EAF, and AqF presented not high inhibitory activity against urease. The results demonstrate the potential of P. cupana to control and prevent H. pylori infection.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate intra-day (test) and inter-day (re-test) reliability of surface electromyography (sEMG) signals of the masseter and temporal muscles in patients with Down syndrome (DS). We determined the reliability of sEMG variables in 33 patients with DS. EMG signals were recorded at rest as well as during maximum voluntary clenching and maximum habitual intercuspation (MHI). The signals were analyzed considering the amplitude in the root mean square (RMS), mean frequency (MNF), median frequency (MDF) and approximate entropy (ApEn). The intraclass correlation (ICC 2,1 ) for the three trials recorded during MHI in the two sessions (test and retest) revealed excellent intra-session and inter-session reliability (ICC 2,1  = 0.76 to 0.97) for all sEMG variables and muscles. In the rest position, excellent reliability was found for RMS and ApEn (ICC 2,1  = 0.75 to 1.00) and good to excellent reliability was found for MDF and MNF (ICC 2,1  = 0.64 to 0.93). The intra-session (test) and inter-session (re-test) analyses demonstrated the reliability of nonlinear sEMG variables of the masticatory muscles in adults with Down Syndrome.

This study aimed to use RNA-Seq to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in muscle of uncastrated Nelore males phenotypically divergent for ribeye muscle area (REA). A total of 80 animals were phenotyped for REA, and 15 animals each with the highest REA and the lowest REA were selected for analyses. DEGs found (N = 288) belonging to families related to muscle cell growth, development, motility and proteolysis, such as actin, myosin, collagen, integrin, solute carrier, ubiquitin and kelch-like. Functional analysis showed that many of the significantly enriched gene ontology terms were closely associated with muscle development, growth, and degradation. Through co-expression network analysis, we predicted three hub genes (PPP3R1, FAM129B and UBE2G1), these genes are involved in muscle growth, proteolysis and immune system. The TP53 R337H mutation is associated with increased incidence of pediatric adrenocortical tumor (ACT). The different environmental conditions where R337H carriers live have not been systematically analyzed. Here, the R337H frequencies, ACT incidences, and R337H penetrance for ACT were calculated using the 2006 cohort with 4165 R337H carriers living in Paraná state (PR) subregions. The effectiveness of a second surveillance for R337H probands selected from 42,438 tested newborns in PR (2016 cohort) was tested to detect early stage I tumor among educated families without periodical exams. Estimation of R337H frequencies and ACT incidence in Santa Catarina state (SC) used data from 50,115 tested newborns without surveillance, ACT cases from a SC hospital, and a public cancer registry. R337H carrier frequencies in the population were 0.245% (SC) and 0.306% (PR), and 87% and 95% in ACTs, respectively. The ACT incidence was calculated as ~6.4/million children younger than 10 years per year in PR (95% CI: 5.28; 7.65) and 4.15/million in SC (CI 95%: 2.95; 5.67). The ACT penetrance in PR for probands followed from birth to 12 years was 3.9%. R337H carriers living in an agricultural subregion (C1) had a lower risk of developing pediatric ACT than those living in industrial and large urban subregion (relative risk = 2.4). One small ACT (21g) without recurrence (1/112) was detected by the parents in the 2016 cohort. Purpose: To evaluate the in vitro stability of resin-ceramic bond strength provided for silanes with acidic functional monomers., Methods: Five ceramic blocks were fabricated. The blocks were randomly divided into groups (n=30) and assigned to the following surface treatments: ( C) HF + RelyX Ceramic Primer, ( G1) HF + Porcelain Liner M, ( G2) HF + Clearfil Ceramic Primer, ( G3) Phosphoric acid ( H₃PO₄) + Clearfil Ceramic Primer, ( G4) H₃PO₄ + Porcelain Liner M. Two adhesives were used: Single Bond in Group C and Clearfil SE Bond in the other groups, after which, each block received four 1 mm increments of resin composite Filtek Z350. The resin-ceramic blocks were sectioned, obtaining samples of approximately 0.8 mm + ࡩ 0.8 mm. The groups were subdivided according to aging mode: I - immediate ( 24 hours storage in artificial saliva) and A - aged ( 3 months in artificial saliva + 5,000 thermal cycles 5°C/55°C). The microtensile test was performed with a 0.5 mm/minute crosshead speed ( n = 15) on a universal testing machine. The fracture patterns were categorized with scanning electron microscopy. The results were analyzed using three-way ANOVA and Tukey's test ( P≤ 0.05)., Results: Silanes containing acidic functional monomers did not affect the stability of the resin-ceramic bond strength. The use of HF acid was a necessary condition for stability. The highest values after aging were obtained by silanes with functional molecules without a statistically significant difference. The storage influenced the values of bond strength. The use of acidic functional monomers did not affect the resin-ceramic bond after storage in saliva followed by thermal cycling., Clinical Significance: Silane agents containing acidic functional monomers did not influence the stability of the resin-ceramic bond.
