Hearing loss (HL) is the third most prevalent chronic health problem among older adults and is quite common in our study group research. Aim of the study: This study wants to illustrate the research on the connection between HL and depression as well as the therapeutic ramifications for diagnosing and treating comorbid like intraoral rehabilitation, HL, and mental disorders also. Material and methods: The evaluated study sample was represented by 28 patients with HL, aged between 50 and 65 years old, from the Prosthodontic Clinic at „Mihail Kogalniceanu”, Iasi, whose presented for treatment of TMDs in association with prosthetic treatment. Results: Most patients were with minor Grade 1 so Grade 2 (moderate), hearing depreciation with audiogram exam that it is considered obvious but tolerable, interfering with daily activities, and patients actively seek therapy. Conclusions: The treatment of patients taken in study has demonstrated a recovery through complex oral rehabilitation that certainly requires time present dedication and interest, in favour of the final patient to obtain a homeostasis at the level of the stomatogenous system and adjacent to it.

The current study intends to highlight the relationship and, at times, the influence between anxiety disorders and dental dysfunctional syndromes of stomatognathic system(SDSS) in young students from our institution : Basis Of The Dental Care Clinic ,,Mihail Kogalniceanu,, Iasi. These are involved in various stressful intellectual activities and have identified a complex health problem that needed to be solved in light of the constant stress that the present time offers, laying the foundations for a focused and direct approach that will increase the certainty of growth. the quality of life. Be the way, the types of young social cases will be able to be solved, and will gather an extent of the accessible tools and skills. We also rely on the acquisition of skills through the experience conferred in this study to offer optimal solutions in these clinical situations.

In order to determine the effects of frontal sinus morphology on the morpho-functionality of the dento-maxillary apparatus and the therapeutic management of pathologies in the orthodontic or maxillofacial surgery area, paraclinical evaluation is extremely important. During time, radiography – a relatively old method, allowed complex explorations of the extreme cephalic area, providing details of cephalometric and facial indexes and information regarding the pneumatization and neuro- and viscera-cranium at the same time. Aim: This manuscript focuses on the correlation of elements related to craniofacial anomalies, in which frontal sinus malformations hold a particularly important place, with various dental anomalies which are particularly important aspects in optimizing the diagnostic and therapeutic protocol in both, orthodontic and orthognathic surgical approaches. Materials and methods: We set out to examine the frontal sinus, including a number of 112 patients, aged 4 to 78 years old, with malocclusions, the research being performed in the Radiology Clinic of Emergency Clinical Hospital “Sf. Spiridon” Iasi, during 2018-2020. We used in our research the landmarks represented by the frontal median septum and the upper orbital margin, on the basis of which we calculated the dimensions of the frontal sinus. The cases were as follows: 66 women (58,9%) and 46 men (41,1%), and age distribution was as follows: •4 – 9 years (20 cases – 17,9%); •10 – 19 years (22 cases – 19,6%); •20 – 45 years (31 cases – 27,7%); •46 – 60 years (19 cases – 17,0%); •over 60 years (20 cases – 17,9%). Results and discussions: The data obtained in our study are superimposable on those found in the literature, noting a frequency of absence of bilateral frontal sinus in 9,8% of cases, the elements of specificity belonging to the percentage of 6,1% for women and 15,2% for men, all cases being between 5-15 years. There are not significant differences between the planimetric measurements at patients with sinusitis compared with the others; instead, we found statistically significant differences between the planimetric measurements concerning the right sinus as well as the left sinus at the 3 classes of malocclusion – the patients in the I-st class have the smallest sinuses, the patients in the II-nd class have intermediary mesurements, while the patients in the III-rd class have the biggest measurements of the sinuses. Conclusions: In dental practice, cascading effects are extremely important, starting from frontal sinus malformations, which lead to different types of dento-dental anomalies, the implications being found in specific orthodontic therapy and orthognathic surgery.

While scaling and root planing is an affordable strategy for treating periodontitis in its initial stages, it is unable to completely eliminate subgingival pathogens and to stop the loss of progressive attachment in certain cases. For some patients, the degree of clinical attachment gain and probing depth reduction offered by nonsurgical periodontal treatment might be enhanced by the supplementary administration of hyaluronic acid (HA) right after scaling and root planing is completed. This article analyzes the evidence for the effectiveness of HA, explores the justification for its prescription, and lists relevant practical concerns that should be considered when using HA as an adjunctive periodontal therapy. HA generates a variety of beneficial effects, including the enhancing of wound healing, in a manner which is similar to periodontal tissues. HA is already widely used in different medical fields and has exciting potential uses in dentistry. HA can be used as an adjunctive periodontal treatment for patients with gingivitis and periodontitis, greatly improving their quality of life in the process.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of smoking on salivary RANKL and OPG levels in patients with generalized, stage III, grade B periodontitis. Material and methods: The salivary concentrations of RANKL and OPG were determined for 18 patients, aged between 23 and 50 years old, of which 8 were smokers, all presenting with a form of generalized, stage III, grade B periodontitis. Results: smokers had higher salivary levels of RANKL (p=0,0009) and a higher RANKL/OPG ratio (p=0,019), compared to non-smokers. OPG salivary levels did not differ much between smokers and non-smokers. Conclusions: Smoking has a higher impact on RANKL than on OPG salivary levels, for patients with generalized, stage III, grade B, periodontitis.

The influence of orthodontic treatment on periodontitis-susceptible patients is a subject of interest. Dental malposition caused by periodontal disease are often observed in this type of patients. Also, these patients often are undergoing orthodontic treatment in order to restore the esthetics and functions of the dental and periodontal apparatus. Thus, it is important to question and verify in what conditions and parameters the orthodontic treatment improves the status of the periodontium. This review analyses several studies concerning this important topic and highlights the parameters that influence the outcome of orthodontic treatment.

The term “periodontal disease” is properly assigned to gingivitis and periodontitis. Generally, gingivitis is a condition of the epithelial and connective tissues located in the immediate vicinity and subcolletal area of the tooth. From the etiopathogenic point of view, gingivitis is the result of the immediate exposure of the aggressive microbial factor through bacterial plaque, physical, chemical, thermal or other traumas such as irradiation, smoking. Cortisol induces metabolic processes antagonistic to insulin, especially during times of hunger and sustained stress. Cortisol influences the immune and inflammatory defense system. Selected articles involving psychosocial stress, anxiety, and depression directly related to periodontal disease reached the following conclusions: psychological stress highlighted by increased salivary cortisol levels influences periodontal disease by exacerbating it and increasing loss of attachment. at probing, potentiation of probing bleeding; the increased index of anxiety is correlated with the increased level of salivary cortisol and chronic periodontitis

The main objective of this study is to quantify the implications of the complications of periodontal pathology and dental mobility on the pathology of dysfunctional algo syndrome, a clinical entity with profound implications for the patient’s quality of life. Methodology: Clinical and laboratory evaluation was conducted in the 2018–2022 period, on a group of 110 women and 130 men, aged between 20–69, selected from our practice venue, Policlinica Stomatologica nr. 1 Iasi, Clinical Base of Dentistry Education “Mihail Kogalniceanu” Iasi, “Grigore T. Popa” University of Medicine and Pharmacy Iasi and “Apollonia” University Iasi. Overall, 125 subjects were diagnosed with periodontal disease with complications and TMJ disorders and followed periodontal therapy in the context of oral complex rehabilitation treatments (study group); the results of their clinical evaluation were compared with the results of the evaluation of the control group, made from the other 115 patients). Results: Dental mobility and gingival recession were identified as more frequent in the study sample compared with the control sample, the differences being statistically significant in both cases. In total, 26.7% of patients had different types of TMJ disorders and 22.9% of patients had occlusal changes; the percentages are slightly increased in the study sample compared with the control one, but the recorded differences are not statistically significant. Conclusions: Dental mobility, most of the time, is a negative consequence of periodontal disease, leading to the alteration of the mandibular-cranial relations, materializing in an important proportion as an etiopathogenic factor of the dysfunctional syndrome of the stomatognathic system.

Introduction: Orofacial pain is a common occurrence in daily dental practice; it is frequently attributed to temporomandibular dysfunction, one of its major causes, followed by pathology of the salivary glands, without avoiding interference at the level of the pain pathways caused by complications of periodontal pathology. The main objective of this study is to identify an important cause of pain in the oral–maxillofacial territory by quantifying the changes at the salivary glandular level using stereological methods. The secondary objective of the present research is to identify the implications of periodontal changes as a consequence of salivary quantitative and qualitative changes, quantified using periodontal indices, on the balance of the temporomandibular joint, dysfunction of it being an important cause of facial pain and having a profound impact on the complex oral rehabilitation algorithm of each clinical case, a condition evaluated with the analysis of the results of the Souleroy questionnaire. Material and methods: In a retrospective study, we evaluated the clinical results obtained after applying complex rehabilitation treatment to 35 subjects, 20 women and 15 men with salivary and TMJ dysfunctions, selected between 2020 and 2021 from the Clinic of Maxillofacial Surgery, Iasi. Results and discussion: The most common symptoms of temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) that were identified through the Souleroy questionnaire were pain and different types of damage to the masticatory muscles. The most significant changes in elders are reported in the case of serous cells, which reduced their percentage volume from 46.7% to 37.4%. Conclusion: As regards stereological analysis in conjunction with histological images, there were significant changes in diameters, perimeters, and longitudinal axes in the adult patients as opposed to the elderly patients, which were also influenced by the type of pathology at this level. The scores recorded on the diagnostic Souleroy scale indicated a large number of patients with low efficiency and maximum stress levels: 20.0% in level 1, 25.7% in level 2, and 25.7% in level 3.

The inflammatory response of the host in periodontitis is the phenomenon that underlies the onset and evolution of periodontal destructive phenomena. A number of systemic factors, such as diabetes mellitus (DM), can negatively affect the patient with periodontitis, just as the periodontal disease can aggravate the status of the DM patient. Host response modulation therapy involves the use of anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant products aimed at resolving inflammation, stopping destructive processes, and promoting periodontal healing, all important aspects in patients with high tissue loss rates, such as diabetic patients. This paper reviews the data available in the literature on the relationship between DM and periodontitis, the main substances modulating the inflammatory response (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, sub-antimicrobial doses of doxycycline, or omega-3 fatty acids and their products, specialized pro-resolving mediators), as well as their application in diabetic patients.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of adjunctive periodontal therapy of 5 mg/mL indocyanine green irradiation by an 810 nm diode laser (aPDT), supplementary to scaling and root planing (SRP) in patients with periodontitis and type II diabetes mellitus (DM) compared to the SRP alone, on periodontal clinical parameters and glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c). The study was conducted on 49 subjects with type II DM and periodontitis, divided into two groups: the SRP group (n = 25), who followed SRP alone, and the SRP + aPDT group (n = 24), who followed SRP and four weekly sessions of indocyanine green irradiation by an 810 nm diode laser. Plaque Index (PI), Bleeding on Probing Index (BOP), probing depth (PD), clinical attachment loss (CAL) and HbA1c were investigated at baseline and after 6 months. At 6 months, both SRP alone and SRP + aPDT generated significant reductions in all the investigated parameters; SRP + aPDT produced more significant reductions for BOP, PD and CAL (p < 0.001) but not for PI and HbA1c, than SRP alone. aPDT with indocyanine green therapy was well tolerated, with two subjects reporting slight discomfort. Therefore, aPDT with indocyanine green might represent a good adjunctive periodontal treatment option for SRP in patients with type II DM and periodontitis.

Scaling and root planing represent the gold standard in the treatment of periodontal disease, but these therapeutic methods cannot eliminate the remaining periodontopathogenic bacteria in cement, tubules, and periodontal soft tissue. Thus, a number of additional therapeutic means have been adopted, including local and systemic antibiotic therapy, as well as the use of photodynamic therapy techniques. Recently, special attention has been paid to potential phytotherapeutic means in the treatment of periodontal disease. In this review, we aim to present the effects generated by the extract of Curcuma longa, the various forms of application of turmeric as an additional therapeutic means, as well as the aspects related to its biotolerance.

Xerostomia is a common complication post-radiotherapy in patients with oral cancer. The acute and long-term side effects can considerably reduce the patient’s quality of life. The aim of our study was to perform analysis of salivary flow and pH in patients after radiotherapy. Methodology: Clinical and laboratory evaluations were conducted in the 2014–2019 period; out of a total 58 subjects aged between 45 and 84, 28 individuals with oral cancer were selected from St. Spiridon Hospital, Clinic of Maxillo-facial Surgery and Oncology Hospital, Iasi post-radiotherapy. Results: Significant downsized mean values of the hydrogen ion concentration (pH) in saliva (p < 0.001) were recorded in patients after radiotherapy, pH value = 4.580 (±1.051). The mean value of resting salivary flow (MRSF) was significantly lower for the group of patients with radiotherapy (MRSF) = 0.145 mL/min. In 89.29% of cases (25 post-radiotherapy cases), in order to perform oral complex rehabilitation treatment, several endodontic and periodontal treatments were performed. A total of 78.57% of the cases received complex oral rehabilitation as mobile or hybrid prostheses or fixed solutions. Conclusion: Understanding post-radiotherapy salivary biochemic modifications in patients with oral cancer could be of critical importance, in view of related oral disorder prevention.

Guided tissue regeneration (GTR) and guided bone regeneration (GBR) became common procedures in the corrective phase of periodontal treatment. In order to obtain good quality tissue neo-formation, most techniques require the use of a membrane that will act as a barrier, having as a main purpose the blocking of cell invasion from the gingival epithelium and connective tissue into the newly formed bone structure. Different techniques and materials have been developed, aiming to obtain the perfect barrier membrane. The membranes can be divided according to the biodegradability of the base material into absorbable membranes and non-absorbable membranes. The use of absorbable membranes is extremely widespread due to their advantages, but in clinical situations of significant tissue loss, the use of non-absorbable membranes is often still preferred. This descriptive review presents a synthesis of the types of barrier membranes available and their characteristics, as well as future trends in the development of barrier membranes along with some allergological aspects of membrane use.

Oral rehabilitation is a main branch of dentistry focused on diagnosing the patient’s problem and creating a treatment plan to restore aesthetics, recondition morphologically all components, and recover the functionality of the oral cavity. Biological compatibility of the materials used has a major importance, due to the direct contact with essential tissues, such as the soft and hard tissue of the periodontium and the potential influence on the outcome of the treatment. The present material aims to assess the inflammatory response after subcutaneous implantation of three materials frequently used in endodontics (Mineral Trioxide Aggregate—MTA, DiaRoot BioAggregate, and Sealapex). The evaluation of the reparative tissue reaction after 7, 30, and 60 days, respectively, subsequent to in vivo implantation, was carried out through electron microscopy imaging. Moreover, evaluation of the dynamics of the osteogenesis process was an indicator for the maintenance of internal homeostasis in the context of complex intraoral rehabilitation treatments that include fixed prosthodontics correlated with the particular periodontal-aesthetic aspects and completed by cranio-mandibular repositioning. Our study showed increased absolute values of alkaline phosphatase in all material-implanted cases (more pronounced in MTA and Bio Aggregate), highlighting that this enzyme could be an effective indicator of bone formation, which takes place after the material implantation, with the most significant elevated values at 30 days postoperatively.

Finite element analysis studies have been of interest in the field of orthodontics and this is due to the ability to study the stress in the bone, periodontal ligament (PDL), teeth and the displacement in the bone by using this method. Our study aimed to present a method that determines the effect of applying orthodontic forces in bodily direction on a healthy and reduced periodontium and to demonstrate the utility of finite element analysis. Using the cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) of a patient with a healthy and reduced periodontium, we modeled the geometric construction of the contour of the elements necessary for the study. Afterwards, we applied a force of 1 N and a force of 0.8 N in order to achieve bodily movement and to analyze the stress in the bone, in the periodontal ligament and the absolute displacement. The analysis of the applied forces showed that a minimal ligament thickness is correlated with the highest value of the maximum stress in the PDL and a decreased displacement. This confirms the results obtained in previous clinical practice, confirming the validity of the simulation. During orthodontic tooth movement, the morphology of the teeth and of the periodontium should be taken into account. The effect of orthodontic forces on a particular anatomy could be studied using FEA, a method that provides real data. This is necessary for proper treatment planning and its particularization depends on the patient’s particular situation.

RANKL (receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-β ligand) and OPG (osteoprotegerin) are two proteins involved in bone remodelling. During the active phase of periodontal disease, an imbalance between the ratios of the two elements can be noticed. While the expression of RANKL is elevated compared with that of OPG, the RANKL is available to bond with RANK (receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-β). This study was conducted on 41 patients: 19 with generalized aggressive periodontitis, 18 with severe chronic periodontitis, and 4 periodontal healthy subjects. For each patient included, we determined the salivary levels of RANKL and OPG with the help of two Human ELISA kits. The results show that the patients affected by periodontitis, either aggressive or chronic, have significant higher values of RANKL and RANKL/OPG ratio. This values correlate with the local inflammation status.

This paper aims to evaluate ,,in vitro’’ the tightness of root fillings in monoradicular teeth using distinct techniques: monocone classic technique, cold lateral condensation technique and warm vertical condensation ultrasound associated technique, underlining some issues of particular interest regarding clinical outcomes over time for endodontic treatment. The study group consists of 45 permanent, monoradicular maxillary and mandibular teeth. The study results showed a higher degree of dye infiltration in the teeth root, filled with monocone classic technique compared to cold lateral condensation and hot vertical condensation ultrasound associated methods; slightly higher dye infiltration in teeth filled by cold lateral condensation technique compared to the teeth group with hot vertical condensation ultrasound associated technique; the control group showed overall richest dye penetration in root canals and dentinal tubules. Warm root canal filling with fluid gutta-percha makes a more qualitative 3D sealing, especially in the medium and coronal thirds compared to other techniques used.

The aim of this study was to identify the anatomo-clinical features of tissues relations in the cervical area and to establish the presence and retention of bacterial biofilm related to the types of cementoenamel junction (CEJ). Material and methods: The study included 16 extracted teeth (4 incisors, 2 canines, 4 bicusps, 6 molars). The teeth, having unaffected cervical area, were cut in 4 sections preserving the bucal, lingual, mesial and distal cervical areas. The dental sections were assessed regarding the aspect and the morphology of the cementoenamel junction using SEM. Also the retention degree of bacterial biofilm was examined. Results: The highest percent (62%) CEJ are represented by the type of edge-to-edge. The bicusps present a percent of 76% of edge-to-edge CEJ, with a 14% percent of CEJ junctions associated with enamel covered by cement. Conclusions The type of cementoenamel junction varies accordingly to dental type and topography. The retention of bacterial biofilm was highest in cementoenamel junctions with exposed dentine.

Aim of the study Evaluation and improving of periodontal status through alignment of the molars in mesial tipping. Material and methods We studied 26 patients, affected by aggresive periodontitis, with age between 26-35 years old, with extracted 3.6 and 4.6 from different reasons and second molar rotated and mesialized. Periodontal clinical exam revealed thin gingival tissue of 3-4 mm (21 cases, 80, 7%) on the mesial surface of the second molar. Radiographic exam revealed the enlargement of the periodontal space and the resorbtion of the interproximal mesial bone. The treatment for the second molar consisted in fixed orthodontic devices and different uprighting techniques depending on the periodontal status of the patient: 50% with uprighting spring, 30% with orthodontic implant and 20% with tip back technique. Results After treatment it was noticed an improving of the gingival tissue status, the reduction of the periodontal pockets with 2 mm and the reshaping of the bone. Conclusions Orthodontic treatment applied to partial toothless aims to create optimal conditions for the insertion of oral implants to represent elements of support for future prosthetic reconstruction.

The anti-convulsivant drug therapy represents a risk factor for the periodontal impairments in patients with epileptic syndromes. Aim of the study We proposed an evaluation of the periodontal changes in epileptic patients, correlated to the systemic alterations induced by the disease and to the drug intake. Material and methods We examined the periodontal status on a number of 58 patients with epilepsy; the data regarding the seizure type, drug therapy and periodontal changes were registered and statistically analyzed. Results A high percentage of patients followed mono-therapy; from these patients, 69.04% presented periodontal changes. Phenytoin determined the most frequent and severe forms of gingival overgrowth. Discussions We observed a high percentage of periodontal lesions, determined by a complex mixture of risk factors (local risk factors, associated to the anti-epileptic systemic medication). The periodontal impairment was directly proportional to the disease and drug history (as period of time). Conclusions The anti-epileptic drug regime determines significant changes in the periodontal tissues. The anti-epileptic drugs are an important systemic risk factor but, still, the bacterial plaque quantity and quality remains the main determinant factor for the various forms of periodontal disease.

Introduction Our study aims to identify: the incidence of external root resorption (ERR) in current practice, the etiologic factors that could leading to ERR, the possible associations with other local and general factors, and also criteria indices upon that, teeth recovery with ERR is possible. Material and methods The study was performed in a lot with 264 patients, 153 women and 111 men, which were presented in 2010 at dental office in Iaşi. Excluded patients from our study were them aged less than 15 years, who had received treatments for temporary or permanent teeth with incomplete root formed. Also, we selected all patients who required achieving at least one intraoral radiograph for complementary teeth diagnosis Results In our entire study group, mostly aged between 40-60 years, ERR percentage level was in males at 13% of cases and at 16% in women. The most affected teeth by ERR were molars (59%) and premolars (29%) and the most common etiological factors were by endodontic way (81%). In 10% of cases ERR involved more than one tooth or it was combined with internal root resorption (IRR). The study group was limited to adult patients requiring dental radiographs as complementary diagnosis, so relatively insignificant cases were excluded when they were presented for other motivations, such as prophylactics, or with mild pathology. The incidence was highest in patients older than 40 years, especially at molar levels. For a large number of cases, there was evidenced in the same patient both: more than one ERR, or ERR combined with RRI. Conclusions External root resorption (ERR) is not a very rare entity in general dental practice, due to his complex aetiology: inflammation, occlusal trauma, impacted teeth, and iatrogenic causes. External root resorption management requires differentiated approach, tailored to diversity etiological factors.

Introduction: Cardiovascular diseases are one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in the European countries, including Romania. Over the last several years, many studies on the relationship between oral infections, especially periodontitis and cardiovascular diseases were published. The aim of this study was to analyse a possible association between cardiovascular diseases and periodontitis by marginal bone loss assessment on orthopantomographs (OPGs). Materials and methods: 171 patients with history of cardiovascular diseases diagnosed by specialist doctors (cardiologist, neurologist) were selected. Several parameters were evaluated in the dental office according to the health questionnaire and the recommended blood tests (cholesterol, triglycerides, complete hemoleucogram, C-reactive protein etc.). The same examiner assessed the dental and periodontal status of each patient on the OPGs. We analysed irredeemable teeth, periapical lesions, interradicular lesions, 4-5mm bone loss from the enamel-cement junction (ECJ) and >6mm bone loss from the enamel-cement junction (ECJ). Results: The study group presented high percents of irredeemable teeth (11%), teeth with periapical lesions (>3 mm; 4%), interradicular lesions (12%), 4-5 mm proximal bone loss (11%) and >6 mm bone loss (17%). Conclusions: The present study confirms the existence of correlations between endodontic infections, periodontal infections and cardiovascular diseases; idea supported by authors and justified by the influence of permanent discharge of proinflammatory factors (cytokines, Il-1 β, TNF-α, etc.) from the oral cavity into the bloodstream, contributing with other factors (cholesterol, triglycerides, etc.) to the appearance and evolution of cardiovascular diseases.

Common radiologic exams offer information about the presence and type of marginal bone loss, but they cannot provide any data on the bone density assessment. Materials and methods We selected 69 CT scans of patients with different degrees of the supporting periodontal tissue diseases, and measured the interdental septum density. Results The present study confirms the dental CT scanning utility in diagnostic imaging of the proximal, interdental bone. The results of the mean alveolar bone density measurements in different depths of the interdental septum show that its correlation with periodontal diseases becomes evident between at a depth of 3 up to 5.5mm. Conclusion Classic or volumetric CT scanning provide valuable data on the interdental bone density, information that cannot be obtained with the same accuracy by any other classic radiologic exam

Objectives: Links between periodontal diseases and systemic diseases have been well documented by epidemiological studies. Cardiovascular diseases are one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality in the European countries, including Romania. One focus of interest is atherosclerosis, the underlying event of cardiovascular diseases due to its serious health impact. The aim of this study was to analyze a possible association between ischemic stroke and periodontitis by marginal bone loss assessment on panoramic radiography (PR), Dental CT or CBCT. Material and methods: 103 patients, 28 to 50 years old, with recent history of ischemic stroke or transient ischemic attack diagnosed by specialist doctors (neurologists) were selected. Several parameters were evaluated in first five days in the dental office according to the health questionnaire and the recommended blood tests (cholesterol, triglycerides, complete hemoleucogram, C-reactive protein etc.). The same examiner and also two radiologist assessed the odontal and periodontal status of each patient on the PR, Dental CT or CBCT. We analyzed irredeemable teeth, periapical lesions, interradicular lesions, 4-5mm bone loss from the enamel-cement junction (ECJ) and >6mm bone loss from the enamel-cement junction (ECJ). Results: The study group analyzed by PR, Dental CT or CBCT presented high percents of irredeemable teeth (12%), teeth with periapical lesions (>3 mm; 3%), interradicular lesions (10%), 4-5 mm proximal bone loss (11%) and >6 mm bone loss (19%) associated with different localization of ischemic stroke. Conclusions: The present study confirms the existence of correlations between endodontic infections, periodontal infections demonstrated by panoramic radiography, CT/CBCT and ischemic stroke.
