We present a multiwavelength investigation of the H ii region G347.600+00.211, located at a distance of 7.9 kpc. We analyse the gas and dust properties aiming to disentangle the origin of the region as well as its role in the formation of new stars. G347.600 + 00.211 is very conspicuous at 1420 MHz and infrared wavelengths, showing an incomplete shell-like structure with two distinct zones of very intense emission. The infrared bubble S8 is part of the shell structure. The spatial distribution of the molecular gas shows the presence of six clouds located around the ionized region and showing a good morphological correlation with the 8-$\mu$m emission. Cold dust is coincident with the dense gas shown in the CO measurements. As for the origin of the region, we found that the massive cluster [DBS2003]179 and two Wolf–Rayet (WR) stars are located at the same distance than the ionized gas. Based on a stellar density analysis, we inferred that one of the WR stars, 1181-81L, is also a probable member of the cluster. Both the cluster and the WR stars are not only within the ring-like structure, but are also located near the two spots of very heightened emission, suggesting they may be responsible for this bright emission. Finally, as expanding H ii regions are hypothesized to trigger star formation, we used different infrared point source catalogues to search for young stellar object candidates (cYSOs). A total of 33 cYSOs and 4 CH ii regions were identified projected on to the photodissociation regions and molecular clouds.

Massive stars leave their imprint on the interstellar medium as they radiate their energy and undergo episodes of mass ejection throughout their lives. In this paper, we analyse the case of the Wolf–Rayet star WR16 combining archival multiwavelength data with new molecular observations obtained with the Atacama Submillimeter Telescope Experiment (ASTE). Our results suggest that during the main-sequence phase, WR16 swept up the surrounding gas creating a molecular structure (which we call Component 1) which also contains very cold dust observed in the infrared band. In a subsequent stage of evolution, as an LBV, the star underwent mass eruptions that were later overrun by the fast winds of the current WR phase. The final result is the round nebula revealed by the optical and IR images, and the molecular clumps detected. We have also computed the peculiar velocity of WR16 using Gaia data and, accordingly, confirm it as a runaway star. We propose that several features observed in different wavelengths can be explained under a bow-shock scenario linked to the high velocity of WR16.

Aims. With the aim of studying the physical properties of Galactic IR bubbles and to explore their impact in massive star formation, we present a study of the IR bubble S169, associated with the massive star forming region IRAS 12326-6245. Methods. We used CO(2-1),13CO(2-1), C18O(2-1), HCN(3-2), and HCO+ (3-2) line data obtained with the APEX telescope using the on-the-fly full sampling technique to study the properties of the molecular gas in the nebula and the IRAS source . To analyze the properties and distribution of the dust, we made use of images obtained from the IRAC-GLIMPSE, Herschel, and ATLASGAL archives. The properties of the ionized gas in the nebula were studied using radio continuum and Hα images obtained from the SUMSS survey and SuperCOSMOS database, respectively. In our search for stellar and protostellar objects in the region, we used point source calalogs obtained from the MSX, WISE, GLIMPSE, 2MASS, AAVSO, ASCC-2.5V3, and GAIA databases. Results. The new APEX observations allowed us to identify three molecular components, each one associated with different regions of the nebula, namely: at −39 km s−1 (component A), −25 km s−1 (component B), and −17 km s−1 (component C). Component A is shown to be the most dense and clumpy. Six molecular condensations (MC1 to MC6) were identified in this component, with MC3 (the densest and more massive one) being the molecular counterpart of IRAS 12326-6245. For this source, we estimated an H2 column density up to 8×1023 cm−2 . An LTE analysis of the high density tracer lines HCO+ (3-2) and HCN(3-2) on this source, assuming 50 and 150 K, respectively, indicates column densities of N(HCO+) = (5.2 ± 0.1) × 1013 cm−2 and N(HCN) = (1.9 ± 0.5) × 1014 cm−2. To explain the morphology and velocity of components A, B, and C , we propose a simple model consisting of a partially complete semisphere-like structure expanding at ∼ 12 km s−1. The introduction of this model has led to a discussion about the distance to both S169 and IRAS 12326-6245, which was estimated to be ∼ 2 kpc. Several candidate YSOs were identified, projected mostly onto the molecular condensations MC3, MC4, and MC5, which indicates that the star-formation process is very active at the borders of the nebula. A comparison between observable and modeled parameters was not enough to discern whether the collect-and-collapse mechanism is acting at the edge of S169. However, other processes such as radiative-driven implosion or even a combination of both mechanisms, namely, collect-and-collapse and radiative-driven implosion, could be acting simultaneously in the region., Instituto de Astrofísica de La Plata

Las estrellas de gran masa tienen una gran influencia sobre el medio interestelar (MIE) que las rodea, no sólo al final de sus vidas cuando explotar como supernovas, sino también durante fases más estables de su evolución. Este impacto se debe a que estas estrellas emiten gran cantidad de fotones muy energéticos y poseen altas tasas de pérdida de masa. Debido a esta interacción, en el MIE cercano a la estrella se forma una región de baja densidad y alta temperatura conocida con el nombre de burbuja interestelar. Observacionalmente, una burbuja interestelar puede ser detectada a través del análisis del MIE en distintas frecuencias. En la línea de 21-cm del HI la misma se evidencia por la presencia, alrededor de la estrella, de una zona de baja densidad de HI rodeada por una cáscara de HI en expansión. En el continuo de radio y en el óptico, debido a la alta emición de fotones energéticos, se manifiesta por la existencia de una región HII. En el infrarrojo esta interacción se evidencia a través de un incremento en la temperatura del polvo en las cercanías de la estrella. También la distribución de moléculas puede verse afectada por esta interacción. Con el objetivo de incrementar el número de objetos analizados y poder llegar a comprender la interacción entre las estrellas de gran masa y el medio que las rodea en mayor profundidad, en este trabajo de Tesis presentamos un análisis observacional del MIE alrededor de algunos de estos objetos. We present a polarization study towards the supernova remnant (SNR) Puppis A based on original observations performed with the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA). Based on the analysis of a feature detected outside the SNR shell (called `the tail' throughout the paper), it was possible to disentangle the emission with origin in Puppis A itself from that coming from the foreground Vela SNR. We found a very low polarization fraction, of about 3 percent on average. The upper limit of the magnetic field component parallel to the line of sight is estimated to be B$_\parallel \sim$ 20 $\mu$G. The statistical behavior of the magnetic vectors shows two preferential directions, almost perpendicular to each other, which are approximately aligned with the flat edges of Puppis A. A third, narrow peak oriented perpendicular to the Galactic plane suggests the existence of an interstellar magnetic field locally aligned in this direction. There is evidence that the magnetic vectors along the shell are aligned with the shock front direction. The low polarization fraction and the statistical behavior of the magnetic vectors are compatible with a scenario where the SNR evolves inside a stellar wind bubble with a box-like morphology, produced by the interaction of the different stellar winds, one of them magnetized, launched by the SN progenitor. This scenario can furthermore explain the morphology of Puppis A, rendering little support to the previously accepted picture which involved strong density gradients to explain the flat, eastern edge of the shell., Comment: Accepted for publication in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society

We present a multiwavelength investigation of the HII region G25.8700+0.1350, located in the inner part of the Galaxy. In radio continuum emission, the region is seen as a bright arc-shaped structure. An analysis of the HI line suggests that G25.8700+0.1350 lies at a distance of 6.5 kpc. The ionized gas is bordered by a photodissociation region which is encircled by a molecular structure where four molecular clumps are detected. At infrared wavelengths, the region is also very conspicuous. Given the high level of visual absorption in the region, the exciting stars should be searched for in the infrared band. In this context, we found in the literature one Wolf-Rayet and one red supergiant which, together with 37 2MASS sources candidates to be O-type stars, could be related to the origin of G25.8700+0.1350. Finally, as expanding HII regions are hypothesized to trigger star formation, we used different infrared point source catalogues to search for young stellar object candidates (cYSOs). The Milky Way, when viewed in the neutral hydrogen line emission, presents large structures called Galactic supershells (GSs). The origin of these structures is still a subject of debate. The most common scenario invoked is the combined action of strong winds from massive stars and their subsequent explosion as supernova. The aim of this work is to determine the origin of 490 GSs that belong to the Catalog of HI supershell candidates in the outer part of the Galaxy. To know the physical processes that took place to create these expanding structures, it is necessary to determine their kinetic energies. To obtain all the GS masses, we developed and used an automatic algorithm, which was tested on 95 GSs whose masses were also estimated by hand. The estimated kinetic energies of the GSs vary from $1\times10^{47}$ to $3.4\times10^{51}$ erg. Considering an efficiency of 20% for the conversion of mechanical stellar wind energy into the kinetic energy of the GSs, the estimated values of the GS energies could be reached by stellar OB associations. For the GSs located at high Galactic latitudes, the possible mechanism for their creation could be attributed to collision with high velocity clouds (HVC). We present a study of a new molecular shell, G 126.1-0.8-14, using available multiwavelength Galactic plane surveys and optical Gemini observations. A well-defined shell-like structure is observed in the CO(1-0) line emission at (l,b) = (126°.1, -0°.8), in the velocity range -10.5 to -15.5 km s-1. The H I emission shows a region of low emissivity inside G 126.1-0.8-14, while radio continuum observations reveal faint non-thermal emission possibly related to this shell. Optical spectra obtained with Gemini South show the existence of B-type stars likely to be associated with G 126.1-0.8-14. An estimate of the stellar wind energy injected by these stars shows that they alone cannot be able to create such a structure. On the other hand, one supernova explosionwould provide enough energy to generate the shell. Using the MSX, IRAS and WISE point source catalogues we have found about 30 young stellar object candidates, whose birth could have been triggered by the expansion of G 126.1-0.8-14. Massive stars with strong stellar winds are expected to have a huge impact on their interstellar surroundings, an effect which, in a surprisingly large number of cases, is not observed. This work is part of a concerted effort to obtain a better and more homogeneous observational data base with which to test the predictions of theoretical models. Analysis of the interstellar medium around the Of star HD 229196 shows that it coincides (in projection) with a region of lower radio continuum emission. This suggests that the star has shaped the surrounding interstellar medium via its ionizing flux and stellar wind. However, we find no clear evidence of the star's action in atomic hydrogen images. The radio continuum morphology and absence of a clear expanding H i shell are consistent with the possibility that the star, which is travelling supersonically at ∼30 km s-1 with respect to its local interstellar medium, is creating a weak bow shock. We cannot however rule out the possibility that the observed asymmetry is due to an inhomogeneous interstellar density distribution. We observed the supernova remnant (SNR) Puppis A in the 21 cm line with the Australia Telescope Compact Array with the aim of determining the systemic velocity and, hence, the corresponding kinematic distance. For the compact, background sources in the field, we obtain absorption spectra by applying two methods: (a) subtracting profiles on- and off-source towards continuum emission, and (b) filtering short spacial frequencies in the Fourier plane to remove large scale emission. One of the brightest features to the East of the shell of Puppis A was found to be a background source, probably extragalactic. Removing the contribution from this and the previously known unrelated sources, the systemic velocity of Puppis A turns out to be limited between 8 and 12 km s$^{-1}$, which places this source at a distance of 1.3 $\pm$ 0.3 kpc. From the combined images that include both single dish and interferometric data, we analyze the distribution of the interstellar hydrogen. We suggest that an ellipsoidal ring at $v \sim $+8 km s$^{-1}$ could be the relic of a bubble blown by the progenitor of Puppis A, provided the distance is $\lesssim$ 1.2 kpc. The main consequences of the new systemic velocity and distance as compared with previous publications ($v =$ +16 km s$^{-1}$ and $d = $2.2 kpc) are the absence of a dense interacting cloud to the East to explain the morphology, and the decrease of the shell size and the neutron star velocity, which are now in better agreement with statistical values., Comment: Accepted for publication in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society

Aims: We present very large array (VLA) and Effelsberg radio continuum and 21 cm Hi line observations of the interstellar medium (ISM) surrounding the runaway star WR 124 and the nebula M 1-67. The HI data have been used to investigate the effects that a star with a strong stellar wind and a high peculiar velocity has on the ISM. Methods: The VLA 21 cm HI observations were combined with single-dish Effelsberg observations to produce a series of HI images sensitive to all angular scales from the VLA resolution limit (∼46") up to the primary field of individual VLA antennae (FWHM = 36'). MSX and IRIS images were used to analyze the infrared emission around the star. Because the star is highly supersonic with respect to its local ISM, the observed HI distribution around the star is interpreted in terms of a simple bow shock model. Results: The analysis of the HI data reveals the presence of a cavity centered on the star at an LSR velocity of ∼60 km s-1, consistent with a distance estimate of 5 kpc for WR124. A second HI cavity is observed located 10' to the north of the stellar position, consistent with the direction of motion of WR 124. The VLA continuum image at 8.5 GHz shows a remarkable resemblance to the optical images. All available radio continuum data suggest a purely thermal spectrum for the nebula. The MSX and IRIS infrared data show a changing morphology with wavelength. We present a study of the molecular CO gas and mid/far-infrared radiation arising from the environment surrounding the Wolf-Rayet (WR) star 130. We use the multiwavelength data to analyse the properties of the dense gas and dust, and its possible spatial correlation with that of young stellar objects (YSOs). We use 12CO J=1-0 data from the Five College Radio Astronomy Observatory survey as tracer of the molecular gas, and mid/far-infrared data from the recent Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) and Herschel space surveys to study the dust continuum radiation and to identify a population of associated candidate YSOs. The spatial distribution of the molecular gas shows a ring-like structure very similar to that observed in the H I gas, and over the same velocity interval. The relative spatial distribution of the H I and CO components is consistent with a photodissociation region. We have identified and characterized four main and distinct molecular clouds that create this structure. Cold dust is coincident with the dense gas shown in the CO measurements. We have found several young stellar object candidates that lie along the regions with the highest gas column density, and suggest that they are spatially correlated with the shell. We show radio continuum observations of the WR ring nebulae around WR 101 and WR 113 obtained using the VLA and H i 21 cm line data of the interstellar bubble around the O type stars BD +24° 3866 and BD+25° 3952 obtained with the DRAO Synthesis Telescope. We review previous radio continuum and H i line results toward WR and O-type stars.

Aims. We carry out a multiwavelength study to characterize the H I supershell designated GS118+01-44, and to analyse its possible origin. Methods. A multiwavelength study has been carried out to study the supershell and its environs. We performed an analysis of the H I, CO, radio continuum, and infrared emission distributions. Results. The Canadian Galactic Plane Survey (CGPS) H I data reveals that GS118+01-44 is centred at (l,b) = (117°.7, 1°.4) with a systemic velocity of -44.3 km s-1. According to Galactic rotation models this structure is located at 3.0 ± 0.6 kpc from the Sun. There are several H II regions and three supernova remnants (SNRs) catalogued in the region. On the other hand, the analysis of the temperature spectral index distribution shows that in the region there is a predominance of non-thermal emission. Infrared emission shows that cool temperatures dominate the area of the supershell. Concerning the origin of the structure, we found that even though several OB stars belonging to CasOB5 are located in the interior of GS118+01-44, an analysis of the energy injected by these stars through their stellar winds indicates that they do not have sufficient energy to create GS118+01-44. Therefore, an additional energy source is needed to explain the genesis of GS118+01-44. The neutral hydrogen distribution has been studied in the direction of three Galactic Wolf-Rayet (W-R) stars, using the 100 m Effelsberg radio telescope. Neutral hydrogen voids, regions of low H I emissivity, are observed over a 10–16 km s-1 velocity range for the stars WR 2 (=HD 6327), WR 128 (=HD 187282), and WR 151 (=CX Cep). These minima are interpreted as the observable 21 cm counterpart of the interstellar bubble created by the powerful winds of W-R stars and their progenitors. The H I cavities are elongated structures having an axial ratio ranging from 1.3 (WR 151) to 2.0 (WR 128). As pointed out in previous studies, the W-R stars are always off-center with respect to either the geometric center of the H I void or the absolute minimum inside the cavity. This offset ranges from 40% to 70% of the H I hole's minor axis. The major axes of these cavities are ~30 pc for both WR 2 and WR 128, and ~50 pc for WR 151. The missing H I mass amounts to 96 M⊙ (WR 128), 200 M⊙ (WR 2), and 480 M⊙ (WR 151). Some of the physical parameters of the ring nebula associated with WR 128, such as its expansion velocity, 80 ± 22 km s-1, radius, 6.3 ± 0.2 pc, and characteristic age, (7.4 ± 2.4) × 104 yr, are derived from a simple geometric model that accounts for the discrepancy between the radial velocity of the H I hole and the ring nebula related to WR 128.

The main goal of this work is to a have a new neutral hydrogen HI supershell candidates catalog to analyze their spatial distribution in the Galaxy and to carry out a statistical study of their main properties.}{This catalog was carried out making use of the Leiden-Argentine-Bonn (LAB) survey. The supershell candidates were identified using a combination of two techniques: a visual inspection plus an automatic searching algorithm. Our automatic algorithm is able to detect both closed and open structures. A total of 566 supershell candidates were identified. Most of them (347) are located in the second Galactic quadrant, while 219 were found in the third one. About $98 \, \%$ of a subset of 190 structures (used to derive the statistical properties of the supershell candidates) are elliptical with a mean weighted eccentricity of $0.8 \pm 0.1$, and $\sim 70 \,\%$ have their major axes parallel to the Galactic plane. The weighted mean value of the effective radius of the structures is $\sim$ 160 pc. Owing to the ability of our automatic algorithm to detect open structures, we have also identified some "galactic chimney" candidates. We find an asymmetry between the second and third Galactic quadrants in the sense that in the second one we detect structures as far as 32 kpc, while for the 3rd one the farthest structure is detected at 17 kpc. The supershell surface density in the solar neighborhood is $\sim$ 8 kpc$^{-2}$, and decreases as we move farther away form the Galactic center. Aims. This work aims at investigating the molecular gas in the surroundings of the ultra-compact HII region G045.47+0.05 looking for evidence of molecular outflows. Methods. We carried out observations towards a region of 2 arcmin x 2 arcmin centered at RA=19h 14m 25.6s, dec.= 11deg 09m 27.6s (J2000) using the Atacama Submillimeter Telescope Experiment (ASTE; Chile) in the 12CO J=3-2, 13CO J=3-2, HCO+ J=4-3 and CS J=7-6 lines with an angular resolution of 22 arcsec. We complement these observations with public infrared data. Results. We characterize the physical parameters of the molecular clump where G045.47+0.0 is embedded. The detection of the CS J=7-6 line emission in the region reveals that the ultra-compact HII region G045.47+0.0 has not completely disrupted the dense gas where it was born. The HCO+ abundance observed towards G045.47+0.0 suggests the presence of molecular outflow activity in the region. From the analysis of the 12CO J=3-2 transition we report the presence of bipolar molecular outflows with a total mass of about 300 solar masses . We derive a dynamical time (flow's age) of about 10^5 yr for the outflow gas, in agreement with the presence of an ultra-compact HII region. We identify the source 2MASS 19142564+1109283 as the massive protostar candidate to drive the molecular outflows. Based on the analysis of its spectral energy distribution we infer that it is an early B-type star of about 15 solar masses. The results of this work support the scenario where the formation of massive stars, at least up to early B-type stars, is similar to that of low mass stars., Recently accepted for publication in A&A

Context. Massive stars have a profound effect on the surrounding interstellar medium. They ionize and heat the neutral gas, and with their strong winds they sweep up the gas, forming large H I shells. In this way, they generate a dense shell that provides the physical conditions for the formation of new stars. Aims. The aim of this study is to analyze the origin and evolution of the large H I shell GS 100-02-41 and its role in triggering star-forming processes. Methods. To characterize the shell and its environs, we carried out a multi-wavelength study. We analyzed the H I 21 cm line, the radio continuum, and infrared emission distributions. Results. The analysis of the H I data shows an expanding shell structure centered at (l,b) = (100°.6,-2°.04) in the velocity range from-29 to-51.7 km s -1. Taking into account noncircular motions, we infer for GS 100-02-41 a kinematical distance of 2.8 ± 0.6 kpc. Several massive stars belonging to Cep OB1 are located in projection within the large H I shell boundaries. The analysis of the radio continuum and infrared data reveals that there is no continuum counterpart of the H I shell. On the other hand, three slightly extended radio continuum sources are observed in projection onto the dense H I shell. From their flux density determinations we infer that they are thermal in nature. An analysis of the H I emission distribution in the environs of these sources shows a region of low emissivity for each of them, which correlates well morphologically with the ionized gas in a velocity range similar to the one where GS 100-02-41 is detected. Conclusions. Based on an energy analysis, we conclude that the origin of GS 100-02-41 could have been mainly caused by the action of the Cep OB1 massive stars located inside the H I shell. The obtained age difference between the H I shell and the H II regions, together with their relative location, lead us to conclude that the ionizing stars could have been created as a consequence of the shell evolution., Facultad de Ciencias Astronómicas y Geofísicas

This work aims at investigating the molecular and infrared components in the massive young stellar object (MYSO) candidate IRAS 18544+0112. The purpose is to determine the nature and the origin of this infrared source. To analyze the molecular gas towards IRAS 18544+0112, we have carried out observations in a 90" x 90" region around l = 34.69, b = -0.65, using the Atacama Submillimeter Telescope Experiment (ASTE) in the 12CO J=3-2, 13CO J=3-2, HCO+ J=4-3 and CS J=7-6 lines with an angular resolution of 22". The infrared emission in the area has been analyzed using 2MASS and Spitzer public data. From the molecular analysis, we find self-absorbed 12CO J=3-2 profiles, which are typical in star forming regions, but we do not find any evidence of outflow activity. Moreover, we do not detect either HCO+ J=4-3 or CS J=7-6 in the region, which are species normally enhanced in molecular outflows and high density envelopes. The 12CO J=3-2 emission profile suggests the presence of expanding gas in the region. The Spitzer images reveal that the infrared source has a conspicuous extended emission bright at 8 um with an evident shell-like morphology of ~ 1.5 arcmin in size (~ 1.4 pc at the proposed distance of 3 kpc) that encircles the 24 um emission. The non-detection of ionized gas related to IRAS 18544+0112, together with the fact that it is still embedded in a molecular clump suggest that IRAS 18544+0112, has not reached the UCHII region stage yet. Based on near infrared photometry we search for YSO candidates in the region and propos that 2MASS 18565878+0116233 is the infrared point source associated with IRAS 18544+0112. Finally, we suggest that the expansion of a larger nearby HII region, G034.8-0.7, might be related to the formation of IRAS 18544+0112., Comment: 14 pages, accepted for publication in A&A. GSH91.5+2-114 is a large HI shell located in the outer Galaxy at a kinematic distance of about 15 kpc. It was first identified in the Canadian Galactic Plane Survey (CGPS) by Pineault et al. (2002) as being possibly associated with objects possessing infrared colors which indicates strong stellar winds. The HI shell has no obvious continuum counterpart in the CGPS radio images at 408 and 1420 MHz or in the IRAS images. We found no evidence for early-type massive stars, most likely as a result of the large extinction that is expected for this large distance. An analysis of the energetics and of the main physical parameters of the HI shell shows that this shell is likely the result of the combined action of the stellar winds and supernova explosions of many stars. We report the detection of the radio and infrared (IR) counterparts of the ring nebula around the WN3(h) star HD 211564 (WR 152), located to the south-west of the H II region Sh2 132. Using radio continuum data from the Canadian Galactic Plane Survey, we identified the radio counterparts of the two concentric rings, of about 9 and 16 arcmin in radius, related to the star. After applying a filling factor f = 0.05-0.12, electron densities and ionized masses are in the range 10-16 cm-3 and 450-700 M⊙ respectively. The analysis of the H I gas emission distribution allowed the identification of 5900 M⊙ of neutral atomic gas with velocities between -52 and -43 km s-1 probably linked to the nebula. The region of the nebula is almost free of molecular gas. Only four small clumps were detected, with a total molecular mass of 790 M⊙. About 310 M⊙ are related to a small IR shell-like source linked to the inner ring, which is also detected in the MSX band A.AnIRAS young stellar object candidate is detected in coincidence with the shell-like IR source. We suggest that the optical nebula and its neutral counterparts originated from the stellar winds from the Wolf-Rayet star and its massive progenitor, and are evolving in the envelope of a slowly expanding shell centred at (l,b) = (102.30, -0°.50) of about 31 pc in radius. The neutral hydrogen distribution has been studied in the direction of three Galactic Wolf-Rayet (WR) stars using the 100 m Effelsberg radio telescope. Cavities in the HI distribution, regions of low HI emissivity, are observed over a 8-9 km s-1 velocity range for WR 126 (≡ST 2), WR 154 (≡HD 213049) and WR 155 (≡HD 214419). These minima are interpreted as the observable 21-cm HI line counterpart of interstellar bubbles created by the winds of the WR stars and their progenitors. The HI cavities are elongated structures depicting an axial ratio ranging from 1.3 (WR 155) to 3 (WR 126). The WR stars are always eccentric with respect to either the geometric centre of the HI cavity or the absolute minimum inside it. This offset ranges from 50% to 80% of the HI hole's minor axis. The major axis of these structures range from 13 (WR 155) to 27 pc (WR 126), while the missing HI mass amounts to 45-50 M⊙ (WR 126), 60 M⊙ (WR 155) and 85 M⊙ (WR 154)., Facultad de Ciencias Astronómicas y Geofísicas, Instituto Argentino de Radioastronomía

Based on an H I line and 408- and 1420-MHz radio continuum survey carried out at the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory (DRAO), the environment of the O star HD 10125 has been studied. In addition, complementary radio continuum images, as well as infrared data of the same region have been analysed. An arc-like structure is found in all the radio continuum data. From the 21 -cm line data, an H I minimum is found in the velocity range ‒27 to ‒32kms-1. Although HD 10125 is not at the centre of the H I cavity, its eccentric position is consistent with the observed stellar proper motion. The H I cavity and the continuum arc-like structure show an excellent morphological correlation. The radio continuum emission has a spectral index (Sv ∼ vα) α = 0.0 ± 0.1, which establishes the thermal nature of the arc-like feature. The dust temperature obtained from the infrared data is higher in the area where the continuum emission is present. A distance of 3 kpc is derived for the star, the H I cavity and the radio continuum structure. We conclude that all the features we have found are physically related to each other. We investigate the ISM in the vicinity of the O-type stars BD +24°3866 (O8.5II(f)), BD +24°3881 (O6.5III(f)) and BD +24°3952 (O8) based on radio continuum and HI line data obtained with the Synthesis Telescope of the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory (DRAO) with synthesized beams of 1′.5 and 7′ at 1420 and 408 MHz, respectively. High angular resolution IRAS data (HIRES) are also analyzed. BD +24°3866 is found to be located close to the inner border of a slowly expanding shell. The evolved HII region Sh2-88, which is excited by BD +25°3952, appears to be interacting with neutral material in the approaching part of this shell. The whole structure is ata distance of 2.4 kpc and is about 23×15 pc in radius. The total swept up mass is 1300 M⊙. The stellar winds of BD +24°3866 and BD +25°3952, are mainly responsible for shaping the HI structure. An HI expanding shell was also found to be related to the HII region G61.7+0.9. At a kinematic distance of 2.4 kpc, this feature is 10 pc in radius and has neutral and ionized masses of 200 and 135 M⊙, respectively. The present observational data do not allow us to identify a definite interstellar HI feature associated with BD +24°3881. The structure and dynamics of the interstellar medium (ISM) are strongly affected by the action of massive stars. They deposit in the ISM a huge number of ionizing photons and transfer to it vast amounts of mechanical energy via their powerful stellar winds. As a consequence, massive stars create what is known as an interstellar bubble, i.e., a minimum in the gas distribution characterized by a low volume density and a high temperature, surrounded by an expanding envelope (Weaver et al. 1977). The star should be seen projected onto, or close to, the centre of the H i minimum.

Aims. This work aims at investigating the interaction of HD 192281 (O5 Vn((f))p) with its local ISM. The purpose is to analyse the effects that a massive star has on the structure and kinematics of its surrounding gas. Methods. To carry out this study, we used high-resolution radio continuum and 21-cm H i line data from the Canadian Galactic Plane Survey (CGPS). This data base was complemented with radio continuum, infrared, and molecular data retrieved from available surveys. Given that HD 192281 is very likely a runaway star, we attempt to establish whether the observed H i distribution can be interpreted in terms of a simple bow shock model. Results. Analysis of the H i data shows the presence of an H i feature likely to be associated with HD 192281. This feature remains detectable from ~5 to-10 km s-1. At the most negative radial velocities, the shape of the H i feature is highly reminiscent of a bow shock structure seen projected onto the plane of the sky. This feature has counterparts at radio-continuum, infrared, and CO emissions.
