In this article, we present OntoDomLab-Med, a domain label ontology focused on medical and health sciences. We have developed a taxonomy from thelabels included in the list of abbreviations of the Dicionário da Língua Portuguesa Contemporânea of the Lisbon Academy of Sciences. Our goal is to connect OntoDomLab-Med to a set of selected entries from the dictionary which have been encoded in TEI Lex-0, a stricter and more suitable format than TEI for dictionary encoding, in line with the FAIR principles. The ontology, built with Protégé and represented in OWL, allows the knowledge to be exported using an interoperable exchange format, thereby enabling the ontology to be applied to different lexical resources and to various domains, regardless of the natural language being used. Nowadays, the most used approach to process an XML file is based on the processing of a DOM structure and a set of operations that collects or edits information in the model using some kind of selectors (usually CSS-like or XPath). Nevertheless, the process of performing a depth-first walk through the DOM, and synthesizing values, is a simple way to traverse and transform an entire XML document. In this document we discuss the details on the implementation and usage of a Python package for XML document processing based on this structure. Representing words with semantic distributions to create ML models is a widely used technique to perform Natural Language processing tasks. In this paper, we trained word embedding models with different types of Portuguese corpora, analyzing the influence of the models' parameterization, the corpora size, and domain. Then we validated each model with the classical evaluation methods available: four words analogies and measurement of the similarity of pairs of words. In addition to these methods, we proposed new alternative techniques to validate word embedding models, presenting new resources for this purpose. No âmbito do Mestrado em Equipamentos e Sistemas Mecânicos, Área de especialização em Construção e Manutenção de Equipamentos e Sistemas Mecânicos, do Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Coimbra, foi realizado um estágio na empresa SRAMPORT. Esta empresa é um fabricante de correntes de rolos, montagem de rodas e cubos de bicicleta, detida pelo grupo norte-americano, fabricante de componentes para bicicletas, SRAM. O presente relatório de estágio tem como principal tema o desenvolvimento de uma plataforma elevatória em aço com o objetivo de eliminação de tarefas relacionadas com o manuseamento de cargas pesadas numa secção da empresa SRAMPORT, a secção da “Niquelagem”. Este relatório visa, essencialmente, o desenvolvimento de todos os componentes associados ao projeto da plataforma elevatória de cargas pesadas tais como o tapete transportador, a secadora, o cilindro pneumático e as barreiras de segurança. Foi também estudado os esforços do ponto de vista analítico e teórico a que toda a plataforma está sujeita durante a sua utilização avaliando-se também os componentes críticos e que estão sujeitos a maior intensidade de forças aplicadas. Posteriormente, foi feito um estudo de simulação em Solidworks de avaliação de tensões e deslocamentos a que a peça móvel da plataforma está sujeita durante a elevação de cargas. Por outro lado, foi feita também uma análise ao processo e operações da secção da “Niquelagem” da empresa tendo em conta que movimentação excessiva de material ou operadores durante as suas tarefas são um dos vários tipos de desperdícios existentes na indústria. Todo o tipo de processamento que não cria valor ao cliente, deve ser considerado desperdício. Assim sendo, e devido ao eventual aumento da unidade fabril da SRAMPORT, foi também feita uma proposta de layout futuro para que a empresa tenha uma base quando quiser fazer esse aumento em termos de espaço.

The Web Ontology Language (OWL) is a World Wide Web Consortium standard, based on the Resource Description Format standard. It is used to define ontologies. While large ontologies are useful for different applications, some tools require partial ontologies, based mostly on a hierarchical relationship of classes. In this article we present bOWL, a basic OWL browser, with the main goal of being pluggable into others, more significant, web applications. The tool was tested through its integration on LeXmart, a dictionary editing tool.

There are countless reasons cited in scientific studies to explain the difficulties in programming learning. The reasons range from the subject’s complexity, the ineffective teaching and study methods, to psychological aspects such as demotivation. Still, learning programming often boils down to practice on exercise solving. Hence, it is essential to understand that the nature of a programming exercise is an important factor for the success and consistent learning. This paper explores different approaches on the creation of a programming exercise, starting with realizing how it is currently formalized, presented and evaluated. From there, authors suggest variations that seek to broaden the way an exercise is solved and, with this diversity, increase student engagement and learning outcome. The several types of exercises presented can use gamification techniques fostering student motivation. In this paper we describe the methodology and evaluation of the expansion of Galnet - the Galician wordnet - using a multilingual Bible through lexical alignment and semantic annotation. For this experiment we used the Galician, Portuguese, Spanish, Catalan and English versions of the Bible. They were annotated with part-of-speech and WordNet sense using FreeLing. The resulting synsets were aligned, and new variants for the Galician language were extracted. After manual evaluation the approach presented a 96.8% accuracy.

Question answering systems are mainly concerned with fulfilling an information query written in natural language, given a collection of documents with relevant information. They are key elements in many popular application systems as personal assistants, chat-bots, or even FAQ-based online support systems. This paper describes an exploratory work carried out to come up with a state-of-the-art model for question-answering tasks, for the Portuguese language, based on deep neural networks. We also describe the automatic construction of a data-set for training and testing the model. The final model is not trained in any specific topic or context, and is able to handle generic documents, achieving 50% accuracy in the testing data-set. This article documents some experiments on teaching a class on a Master Degree Program using a different perspective on gamification. Instead of winning badges or getting achievements, students earn classification points. This allows them to work as hard as they are willing, having in mind their current classification and how far they can reach. In the specific experiment being reported, students can earn final grade points with pull requests to a shared class project. UIDB/03213/2020 UIDP/03213/2020 LeXmart is an open-source web platform used to support the lexicographer’s work through editing, control, validation, management, and publication of lexical resources. This tool was specifically developed to facilitate the compilation of general monolingual dictionaries in which data is encoded according to the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI) schema (chapter 9). Here, we will describe the challenges of adapting LeXmart to deal with TEI Lex-0 and distinct types of lexical resources, namely Dicionário da Língua Portuguesa (DLP) and Vocabulário Ortográfico da Língua Portuguesa, lexicographic works from Academia das Ciências Lisboa, and Dicionário Aberto, the retro-digitised version of the Cândido de Figueiredo dictionary. This article describes the steps taken to update the LeXmart platform to deal with the TEI Lex-0 schema and describe the challenges on properly encoding these three projects while allowing the lexicographical team to work continuously. This work builds on automatic operations performed on top of the original resources. Dans cet article, nous présentons OntoDomLab-Med, une ontologie des marques de domaines des sciences médicales et de la santé. Nous avons élaboré une taxonomie à partir des marques présentes dans la liste des abréviations du Dicionário da Língua Portuguesa Contemporânea de l’Académie des Sciences de Lisbonne. Notre objectif est de mettre en rapport OntoDomLab-Med et les entrées sélectionnées du dictionnaire balisées en TEI Lex-0 – système de balisage plus stricte et plus adapté que TEI au codage des dictionnaires – en ligne avec les principes FAIR. L’ontologie construite avec Protégé et codifiée en OWL permet l’exportation des connaissances dans un format d’échange interopérable permettant que l’ontologie puisse être appliquée à différentes ressources lexicales pour référencer les domaines indépendamment de la langue utilisée. OntoDomLab-Med sera utile non seulement pour rechercher de l’information par domaine, mais permettra au lexicographe d’être plus cohérent dans son travail de chercheur et de codeur de l’information à des fins lexicographiques.

In this document we present the first developments on an Umbundu dictionary for a jSpell, a morphological analyzer. Initially some comments are performed regarding the Umbundu language morphology, followed by the discussion on jSpell dictionaries structure and its environment.
