Abstract

In the process of curing or service, epoxy resin is prone to crack damage due to complex stress, resulting in material performance degradation and other catastrophic accidents. Self‐healing microcapsules offer an effective strategy to address the aforementioned issues and enhance the long‐term durability of materials. However, traditional microcapsules face challenges in achieving non‐contact repair, as the healing agent requires high temperature or other extreme conditions to achieve curing, which necessitates the artificial provision of these conditions. Moreover, such extreme conditions may accelerate equipment aging or negatively impact the matrix material. To address these issues, this paper reports a photosensitive microcapsule that can achieve healing by natural light for non‐contact self‐healing of insulating composites. In particular, SiO2 nanoparticles are incorporated into the shell of the microcapsules to construct a UV shielding layer, effectively preventing premature curing and failure of the untriggered microcapsules. Experimental results indicate that the proposed photosensitive microcapsule@SiO2 exhibits excellent thermal stability, remaining intact at temperatures up to 200°C. With a healing agent content of approximately 77.5%, the photosensitive microcapsule@SiO2 ensures effective repair. Furthermore, when cross‐linked with epoxy resin, it has minimal negative impact on the epoxy matrix, with a slight improvement in mechanical properties. The composites demonstrate outstanding self‐healing performance in response to mechanical scratch damage. Without the need for any artificial stimuli, the healing process can be easily activated by natural light, facilitating intelligent, contactless, and autonomous self‐healing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

[Display omitted] High-performance insulating materials are essential for developing lightweight, compact, and green offshore wind power equipment. It has been shown that nanoporous structures can limit the development of electron avalanche, leading to a significant increase in the breakdown electric strength of dielectrics. Hence, we fabricated a polysiloxane nanoporous biopolymer insulating material (PNBIM) with the nanoporous structure that presents exceptionally high electrically insulating properties. Under a CO 2 atmosphere, the breakdown electric strength of the PNBIM was remarkably improved, exhibiting 761.01 % enhancement relative to that of the pure gas gap. Moreover, the PNBIM demonstrates excellent dielectric performance, with a low dielectric constant (1.63) and dielectric loss (0.014), as well as high hydrophobicity and excellent thermal stability. The investigations revealed that the nanopores inside the material can effectively suppress gas discharge and improve the breakdown electric strength. This study widens our understanding of conventional insulating materials and provides a promising approach for exploring high-performance insulating materials provide valuable insights. 37. AC and Lightning Impulse Breakdown Voltage Comparative Study of Mineral Oil-Based Fe3O4, Al2O3, and TiO2 Nanofluids

Abstract

This article deals with the comparison of ac and lightning impulse breakdown voltage (LI-BDV) of mineral oil (MO)-based Fe3O4, Al2O3, and TiO2 nanofluids (NFs) in different low concentrations. A statistical analysis that was performed to evaluate the ac breakdown voltage at different insulation failure risks using Weibull and normal distributions, and the optimal concentration of different nanoparticles (NPs) at the range of 0–0.1 g/L under ac condition was determined. At the optimal concentration, the ac breakdown voltage at 1% insulation failure risk of three kinds of NFs is improved at least 20%, and especially, for TiO2 NFs, the increment of breakdown voltage reaches 60%. The effect of NPs on the breakdown of NFs is analyzed, and the possible charge capture and release processes are proposed. This study can serve as a reference for insulation design using NF as an insulating material.

38. A UV-responsive mechanically robust insulating polymer that achieves intrinsic self-healing of electrical tree damage based on reversible anthracene photodimerization.

Abstract

Microscale damage, including cracks and electrical trees, is inevitably generated in the polymer insulation materials used in the packaging of power equipment and power electronic devices during long-term operation, which leads to premature insulation failure or even widespread power outages. Self-healing insulation materials are the most promising way to solve this problem. However, the mechanical/electrical strength or the dimensional stability of the materials could be sacrificed during the repair process, which has limited their application as insulation materials. In this study, we report an intrinsic self-healing epoxy resin based on reversible anthracene photodimerization (ISEP-RAP) that remains mechanically robust while ensuring efficient healing via a reversible reaction. The damaged area is decrosslinked by 254 nm UV and thermal excitation, which accelerates the molecular chain diffusion to the damaged area to fill and repair the damaged channels. The ISEP-RAP is recrosslinked by 365 nm UV to restore the mechanical and electrical properties after self-healing. Due to the combined action of the epoxy-amine permanent crosslinking sites and the anthracene reversible crosslinking sites, high crosslinked ISEP-RAP possesses excellent tensile and dielectric strength similar to that of standard epoxy resin and a lower permittivity constant. Importantly, the decrosslinked ISEP-RAP still possesses sufficiently high strength to keep the macrostructure unchanged. ISEP-RAP achieves high-efficiency, repeatable, non-contact intrinsic self-healing of scratches and electrical trees with whole-process dimensional stability. This work provides a new method for intrinsic self-healing in mechanically robust insulation materials to eliminate microdamage with repeatability, high reliability, and high efficiency.
