Abstract Background Since May 2022, mpox outbreaks have been occurring in non-mpox endemic areas, with the main population affected being men who have sex with men (MSM). Outbreak prevention and control depend not only on the effectiveness of vaccines but also on people’s willingness to receive these vaccines. Currently, there is lack of synthesis on the overall rates and influence factors of MSMs’ willingness to vaccinate against mpox. Therefore, we systematically reviewed studies that assessed the willingness of MSM to receive mpox vaccine. Methods Studies reporting mpox vaccination intentions among MSM were included by searching five databases (PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, CINAHL, and SCOPUS) from inception to May 12, 2024. The quality of the included literature was assessed using Joanna Briggs Institute’s critical appraisal tool. The data analysis software is Stata17. The systematic review has been registered with Prospero (registration ID: CRD42023452357). Results Twenty cross-sectional studies were included in the review. Meta-analysis results showed that the pooled willingness rate of vaccinate against mpox was 77.0% (95% CI: 73-81%, I2 = 99.4%). According to subgroup analysis, study countries (P = 0.002), research sample size (P = 0.001), and whether participants were infected with HIV (P = 0.002) may be sources of heterogeneity. The results of the meta-analysis of influencing factors showed that more number of sexual partners (OR: 2.24, 95%CI: 1.86–2.69), pre-exposure prophylaxis use (OR: 6.04, 95%CI: 4.80–7.61), history of sexually transmitted infections (OR: 2.96, 95%CI: 2.33–3.76), confidence in the vaccine’s effectiveness (OR: 2.79, 95%CI: 2.04–3.80) and safety (OR: 10.89, 95%CI: 5.22–22.72), fear of mpox infection (OR: 2.47, 95%CI: 2.11–2.89) and epidemics (OR: 2.87, 95%CI: 2.22–3.70), high mpox knowledge (OR: 2.35, 95%CI: 1.51–3.66), and the belief that people at high risk should be prioritized for vaccination (OR: 3.09, 95%CI: 1.40–6.84) were the facilitators of vaccine willingness. In addition, as a secondary outcome, meta-analysis results showed a pooled unwillingness rate of 16% (95% CI: 13-20%, I2 = 98.1%, 9 studies). Conclusion Willingness to vaccinate mpox was high among MSM, but some participants still had negative attitudes towards vaccination. Therefore, the Ministry of Public Health should develop targeted and effective strategies against those influencing factors to prevent and manage mpox outbreaks.

Abstract Background To date, multiple cases of adverse reactions to COVID-19 vaccines have been reported worldwide. Alopecia areata (AA) is an uncommon type of adverse reaction reported in some articles and has a significant social and psychological impact on patients. Our study aimed to review the AA and COVID-19 vaccine literature. Methods This systematic review was conducted by searching for articles on AA following COVID-19 vaccines in international databases such as Embase, MEDLINE, PubMed, Web of Knowledge, and Ovid from December 2019 to December 30, 2023. We included studies that provided data for AA patients following COVID-19 vaccination with at least one dose. Data on sex, age, country/region of origin, vaccine type, days between vaccination and symptom presentation, manifestations of AA, trichoscopy and histopathological findings, treatment, and outcomes were included. Results In total, 579 explored studies were identified and assessed, and 25 articles with a total of 51 patients were included in the review. Twenty-seven (52.9%) patients developed new-onset AA following receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, and AA recurrence or exacerbation occurred after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine in 24 (47.1%) patients with preexisting disease. Five vaccines were reported to cause AA in all cases. The Pfizer vaccine (45.1%) was the most frequently reported, followed by the ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 vaccine (27.5%), Moderna mRNA-1273 (19.6%), Sinopharm (3.9%) and SinoVac (3.9%). AA occurred most frequently within one month after the 1st dose, and then, the incidence decreased gradually with time. Topical or systemic corticosteroids were used in 38 patients. Eleven patients were treated with a Janus Kinase inhibitor (jakinib) inhibitor, eight with tofacitinib, and three with an unspecified jakinib. However, 3 of the 11 patients experienced exacerbations after treatment. Conclusion AA after COVID-19 vaccination is rare, and physicians should be aware of this phenomenon to improve early diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Abstract Background Epidemiological studies have revealed a significant association between impaired kidney function and certain mental disorders, particularly bipolar disorder (BIP) and major depressive disorder (MDD). However, the evidence regarding shared genetics and causality is limited due to residual confounding and reverse causation. Methods In this study, we conducted a large-scale genome-wide cross-trait association study to investigate the genetic overlap between 5 kidney function biomarkers (eGFRcrea, eGFRcys, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), serum urate, and UACR) and 2 mental disorders (MDD, BIP). Summary-level data of European ancestry were extracted from UK Biobank, Chronic Kidney Disease Genetics Consortium, and Psychiatric Genomics Consortium. Results Using LD score regression, we found moderate but significant genetic correlations between kidney function biomarker traits on BIP and MDD. Cross-trait meta-analysis identified 1 to 19 independent significant loci that were found shared among 10 pairs of 5 kidney function biomarkers traits and 2 mental disorders. Objective: Flexible ureteroscopy (fURS) has become a widely accepted and effective technique for treating kidney stones. With the development of new laser systems, the fURS approach has evolved significantly. This literature review aims to examine the current state of knowledge on fURS treatment of kidney stones, with a particular focus on the impact of the latest laser technologies on clinical outcomes and patient safety. Methods: We conducted a search of the PubMed/PMC, Web of Science Core Collection, Scopus, Embase (Ovid), and Cochrane Databases for all randomized controlled trial articles on laser lithotripsy in September 2023 without time restriction. Results: We found a total of 22 relevant pieces of literature. Holmium laser has been used for intracavitary laser lithotripsy for nearly 30 years and has become the golden standard for the treatment of urinary stones. However, the existing holmium laser cannot completely powder the stone, and the retropulsion of the stone after the laser emission and the thermal damage to the tissue have caused many problems for clinicians. The introduction of thulium fiber laser and Moses technology brings highly efficient dusting lithotripsy effect through laser innovation, limiting pulse energy and broadening pulse frequency. Conclusion: While the holmium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet laser remains the primary choice for endoscopic laser lithotripsy, recent technological advancements hint at a potential new gold standard. Parameter range, retropulsion effect, laser fiber adaptability, and overall system performance demand comprehensive attention. The ablation efficacy of high-pulse-frequency devices relies on precise targeting, which may pose practical challenges.

Objectives: A noticeable increase in HIV-positive cases among women, particularly those of middle and old age, has been observed worldwide. This study aimed to describe women’s perceived HIV risk, HIV/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) knowledge, attitude, and sexual behaviors to determine factors associated with condom use among these women in Hunan, China. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from July 2019 to August 2020 among 958 women aged 40 and older in four regions of Hunan, China. We collected data on sociodemographic characteristics, perceived HIV risk, HIV/AIDS knowledge and attitude, condom use, and sexual behaviors. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression were performed to identify factors related to condom use. Results: Out of 958 participants, 60.6% perceived no risk of HIV infection, and 46.8% reported they had never used a condom during their past sexual life. Those who were older, had lower monthly household income for family, had not received HIV education in the past year, were unwilling to use condoms, could not determine condom use during sexual activity, and had more negative attitudes towards HIV/AIDS and HIV-positive people were less likely to use condoms in their past sexual behaviors. Conclusions: In Hunan Province, most women aged 40 and older perceived themselves as having a low or no risk of HIV infection; their rate of condom use was low, and six factors were associated with condom use. It is imperative to strengthen HIV prevention and control programs among women aged 40 and above, particularly focusing on those who may use condoms infrequently or not at all.

In the era of internet-based data, recommendation systems are crucial for helping users access personalized content and facilitating business promotion and sales. Recommendation systems based on social relationships have gained popularity due to their ability to use social influence and enhance the impact and credibility of recommendations. However, building a successful recommendation system faces the challenge of protecting user data privacy, as it requires a significant amount of sensitive user data. For this challenge, we propose a privacy-preserving recommendation system based on social relationships in the dual-cloud model. To achieve the secure computation of this system, we also design and improve some underlying secure protocols such as secure equality protocol and secure comparison protocol. Our underlying protocol has the advantages of high efficiency and provable security. As a result, our recommendation system can provide excellent recommendations while ensuring privacy protection. Experiments show that our system can perform secure recommendation calculations on 128-bit data with semi-honest security in approximately 5.5 s.

BackgroundCryoballoon ablation (CBA) and laser balloon ablation (LBA) are two innovative ways for the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF). This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of cryoballoon ablation and laser balloon ablation in patients with AF.MethodsWe searched Pubmed, Embase, Ovid, Web of Science and other databases for comparative trials comparing CB and LB ablation in the treatment of AF, from establishment of database to August, 2023.ResultsA total of 13 studies and 3,582 patients were included (CBA, n = 2,308; LBA, n = 1,274). There was no difference between CBA and LBA in acute PVI rate per vein, 12-months recurrence rate of AF, 12-months recurrence rate of atrial arrhythmia, occurrence rate of pericardial tamponade, occurrence rate of inguinal complications. LBA presented a lower acute PVI rate per patients (CBA 97.0% vs. LBA 93.4%, RR = 1.04, 95%CI: 1.01–1.07). Transient nerve palsy was more likely to occur after CBA (CBA 2.7% vs. LBA 0.7%, RR = 4.25, 95%CI: 2.06–8.76). However, the occurrence of persistent nerve palsy between CBA and LBA groups were similar (CB 1.4% vs. LB 1.0%, RR = 1.09, 95%CI: 0.55–2.14). In terms of procedural duration, the procedural time of CBA was shorter than that of LBA (WMD = −26.58, 95%CI: −36.71–16.46).ConclusionsCompared with LBA, CBA had a shorter procedural duration. Abstract Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine and metabolic disorder characterized by chronic low-grade inflammation. Previous studies have demonstrated that the gut microbiome can affect the host tissue cells’ mRNA N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modifications. This study aimed to understand the role of intestinal flora in ovarian cells inflammation by regulating mRNA m6A modification particularly the inflammatory state in PCOS. The gut microbiome composition of PCOS and Control groups was analyzed by 16S rRNA sequencing, and the short chain fatty acids were detected in patients’ serum by mass spectrometry methods. The level of butyric acid was found to be decreased in the serum of the obese PCOS group (FAT) compared to other groups, and this was correlated with increased Streptococcaceae and decreased Rikenellaceae based on the Spearman’s rank test. Additionally, we identified FOSL2 as a potential METTL3 target using RNA-seq and MeRIP-seq methodologies. Cellular experiments demonstrated that the addition of butyric acid led to a decrease in FOSL2 m6A methylation levels and mRNA expression by suppressing the expression of METTL3, an m6A methyltransferase. Additionally, NLRP3 protein expression and the expression of inflammatory cytokines (IL-6 and TNF-α) were downregulated in KGN cells. Butyric acid supplementation in obese PCOS mice improved ovarian function and decreased the expression of local inflammatory factors in the ovary. Taken together, the correlation between the gut microbiome and PCOS may unveil crucial mechanisms for the role of specific gut microbiota in the pathogenesis of PCOS. Furthermore, butyric acid may present new prospects for future PCOS treatments.

In this study, the temperature-dependent chemical toxicity of three insecticides and the resulting thermoregulatory (TR) behavior of the lizard Eremias argus have been consolidated into the current risk assessment framework. According to acute dermal toxicity assays, an increase of ambient temperature from 15 °C to 35 °C decreased the acute dermal toxicity of beta-cyfluthrin (BC) but increased the toxicity of chlorpyrifos (CPF). The toxicity of avermectin (AVM) did not show significant temperature-dependent responses. Based on thermal preference trials, lizards changed their body temperature via TR behavior to adaptively reduce toxicity under sub-lethal doses, which can be understood as a “self-rescue” behavior attenuating lethal effects. However, the risk quotient indicated that the effectiveness of this “self-rescue” behavior is limited. Metabolomics analysis showed that six different metabolites (i.e., creatine, glutamate, succinate, N-acetylaspartate, acetylcholine, and lactate) contributed to TR behavior changes. Biochemical assays and insecticide residue results demonstrated that the temperature-dependent toxicity of BC, CPF, and AVM affected lizards in the three aspects of biotransformation, oxidative stress, and neurometabolic interference. This work clarifies the ecotoxicological impacts of representative insecticides on reptiles from toxicological understanding to risk relevance. This knowledge may improve ecological predictions of agrochemical applications in the context of global climate change.

Due to the equivalent keys revealed by a chosen-plaintext attack or a chosen-ciphertext attack, most of the existing chaotic image encryption schemes are demonstrated to be insecure. In order to improve security performance, some scholars have recently proposed the plaintext-related chaotic image encryption scheme. Although the equivalent effect of a one-time pad is achieved, an additional secure channel is required to transmit the hash values or other parameters related to the plaintext before the ciphertext can be decrypted at the receiving end. Its main drawback is that an absolutely secure channel is needed to transmit the information related to the plaintext, which is not feasible in practical applications. To further solve this problem, this paper proposes a chaotic image encryption scheme based on global dynamic selection of a multi-parallel structure. First, a chaotic sequence is employed to dynamically select DNA encoding rules. Secondly, the permutation with a multi-parallel structure is performed on the DNA-encoded matrix, and the DNA decoding rules are dynamically selected according to another chaotic sequence. Finally, the diffusion rules obtained by the ciphertext feedback mechanism are introduced to determine the dynamic diffusion. Compared with the existing local dynamic encryption schemes, the main advantage of this scheme is that it can realize global dynamic selection, so as to ensure that there is no equivalent key, and it can resist the chosen-ciphertext attack or chosen-plaintext attack and does not need an additional secure channel to transmit parameters related to plaintext, which is practical. A theoretical analysis and numerical experiments demonstrate the feasibility of the method.

This paper analyzes the security of an image encryption algorithm based on a two-dimensional hyperchaotic map. This encryption algorithm generated chaotic sequences through a combination of two one-dimensional chaotic maps and used them as the permutation and diffusion key. Then, the image was encrypted by using the structure of row–column permutation, forward-diffusion, and backward-diffusion. The proposer claimed that the above algorithm was secure. However, it was found through cryptanalysis that the algorithm cannot withstand the chosen plaintext attack. Although the forward-diffusion and backward-diffusion of the original algorithm use two different diffusion keys and there is a ciphertext feedback mechanism, the analysis of the diffusion by iterative optimization showed that it can be equivalent to global diffusion. In addition, the generation of chaotic sequences in the encryption process is independent of the plaintext image, so the equivalent diffusion and permutation key stream can be obtained by adjusting the individual pixel values of the chosen plaintexts. Aiming at the security loopholes in the encryption algorithm, the theoretical and experimental results are presented to support the efficiency of the proposed attack and suggestions for improvement are given. Finally, compared with the performance analysis of the existing cracking algorithm, our cryptanalysis greatly improved the cracking efficiency without increasing the complexity of the data.

Objective To explore willingness and preferred ways to use HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), factors associated with willingness, and potential barriers to PrEP use among men who have sex with men (MSM) in Changsha, China.Design A cross-sectional survey was conducted from 25 June to 31 August 2019. In this paper, we study an HP TiO2 memristor model with a parasitic memcapacitor, and it is shown that the parasitic element has significant effects on the volt-ampere characteristics and the dynamics of the memristor circuits. Further, the study shows that the pinched point on the hysteresis loop of the HP TiO2 memristor may deviate from the origin. We also show that the memristor with a parasitic memcapacitor will eventually lose its stored flux when its power is switched off. Furthermore, in order to study the parasitic effects in circuits, we derive a simple three-element series circuit that contains an inductor, a negative resistor, and an HP TiO2 memristor. If the parasitic memcapacitor of the memristor is considered, we observe a parasitic periodic oscillation occurred in the circuit.

A new memristor-based hyperchaotic system is described in this paper. After studying on its basic dynamic characteristics, it is found that the hidden attractors can be obtained by adding a nonzero parameter (which named optimized factor in this paper) to the system. Moreover, when the optimized factor is varying, the corresponding hidden attractors of the system is symmetrical and can convert between double scrolls and a single scroll. Further, the optimized memristor-based hyperchaotic system is implemented by analog circuits. Corresponding experimental results are completely consistent with the theoretical analysis.

This paper analyzes the security of the image encryption algorithm based on a two-dimensional (2D) infinite collapse map. The encryption algorithm adopts a permutation–diffusion structure and can perform two or more rounds to achieve a higher level of security. By cryptanalysis, it is found that the original diffusion process can be split into a permutation–diffusion structure, which comes after the original permutation, so these two permutations can be merged into one. Then, some theorems about round-down operation are summarized, and the encryption and decryption equations in the diffusion process are deduced and simplified accordingly. Since the chaotic sequences used in encryption algorithm are independent of the plaintext and ciphertext, there are equivalent keys. The original encryption algorithm with single-round, two-round, and multi-round of permutation–diffusion processes is cracked, and the data complexity of the cryptanalysis attacks is analyzed. Numerical simulation is carried out by MATLAB, and the experimental results and theoretical analysis show the effectiveness of the cryptanalysis attacks. Finally, some suggestions for improvement are given to overcome the shortcomings of the original encryption algorithm.

In this paper, the security analysis of a color image encryption algorithm based on Hopfield chaotic neural network is given. The original chaotic image encryption algorithm includes permutation encryption and diffusion encryption. The result of cryptanalysis shows that the chaotic sequences generated by this algorithm are independent of plaintext image, and there exist equivalent permutation key and equivalent diffusion key. Therefore, according to chosen-plaintext attack, the equivalent diffusion key and the equivalent permutation key can be obtained by choosing two special plaintext images and the corresponding ciphertext images, respectively, and the plaintext image is further recovered from the ciphertext image. Theoretical analysis and numerical simulation experiment results verify the effectiveness of the analytical method. Finally, some improved suggestions for the original encryption algorithm are proposed to promote the security.

In this paper, the security analysis of an image chaotic encryption algorithm based on Latin cubes and bit cubes is given. The proposed algorithm adopts a first-scrambling-diffusion- second-scrambling three-stage encryption scheme. First, a finite field is constructed using chaotic sequences. Then, the Latin cubes are generated from finite field operation and used for image chaotic encryption. In addition, according to the statistical characteristics of the diffusion image in the diffusion stage, the algorithm also uses different Latin cube combinations to scramble the diffusion image for the second time. However, the generation of Latin cubes in this algorithm is independent of plain image, while, in the diffusion stage, when any one bit in the plain image changes, the corresponding number of bits in the cipher image follows the change with obvious regularity. Thus, the equivalent secret keys can be obtained by chosen plaintext attack. Theoretical analysis and experimental results indicate that only a maximum of 2.5 × w × h 3 + 6 plain images are needed to crack the cipher image with w × h resolution. The size of equivalent keys deciphered by the method proposed in this paper are much smaller than other general methods of cryptanalysis for similar encryption schemes.

Recently, an image encryption algorithm based on DNA encoding and spatiotemporal chaos (IEA-DESC) was proposed. In IEA-DESC, pixel diffusion, DNA encoding, DNA-base permutation and DNA decoding are performed successively to generate cipher-images from the plain-images. Some security analyses and simulation results are given to prove that it can withstand various common attacks. However, in this paper, it is found that IEA-DESC has some inherent security defects as follows: (1) the pixel diffusion is invalid for attackers from the perspective of cryptanalysis; (2) the combination of DNA encoding and DNA decoding is equivalent to bitwise complement; (3) the DNA-base permutation is actually a fixed position shuffling operation for quaternary elements, which has been proved to be insecure. In summary, IEA-DESC is essentially a combination of a fixed DNA-base position permutation and bitwise complement. Therefore, IEA-DESC can be equivalently represented as simplified form, and its security solely depends on the equivalent secret key. So the equivalent secret key of IEA-DESC can be recovered using chosen-plaintext attack and chosen-ciphertext attack, respectively. Theoretical analysis and experimental results show that the two attack methods are both effective and efficient.
