5. Analysing Moderators and Critical Factors That Affect Early Childhood Education with the Usage of Touchscreen Contrivances: A Hybrid Fuzzy AHP-Fuzzy TOPSIS Approach

Abstract

Context: In the children's education process, not only children but parents, educators, and teachers are using touchscreen technology-enabled contrivances for better quality of life. Every stakeholder has their perspective on the usage of touchscreen contrivances. A lot of moderators and critical factors affect this perception. Objective: To analyse the moderators and critical factors that affect early childhood education. Method: A comprehensive literature survey and focused group discussion members have finalized six moderators and ten critical factors that affect early childhood education. A hybrid fuzzy AHP-fuzzy TOPSIS has been used to rank identified critical factors. Fuzzy AHP is used to get the weights of the moderators and fuzzy TOPSIS used these weights to rank the critical factors. Results: The moderator 'children age' is having the highest normalized weight (0.211) and the 'screen size' is having the lowest normalized weight (0.106). The two most critical factors that ranked first and second are 'app features and content' and 'applied pedagogical approach' having closeness coefficients of 0.9713 and 0.9594. Potential future scope: The results of the study will help the teachers, parents, and educators to focus on the highly ranked factors which will directly or indirectly improve the children's education.

Abstract

An independent ethical assessment of an artificial intelligence system is an impartial examination of the system's development, deployment, and use in alignment with ethical values. System-level qualitative frameworks that describe high-level requirements and component-level quantitative metrics that measure individual ethical dimensions have been developed over the past few years. However, there exists a gap between the two, which hinders the execution of independent ethical assessments in practice. This study bridges this gap and designs a holistic independent ethical assessment process for a text classification model with a special focus on the task of hate speech detection. The assessment is further augmented with protected attributes mining and counterfactual-based analysis to enhance bias assessment. It covers assessments of technical performance, data bias, embedding bias, classification bias, and interpretability. 7. Consumer Demand Modeling During COVID-19 Pandemic

Abstract

The current pandemic has introduced substantial uncertainty to traditional methods for demand planning. These uncertainties stem from the disease progression, government interventions, economy and consumer behavior. While most of the emerging literature on the pandemic has focused on disease progression, a few have focused on consequent regulations and their impact on individual behavior. The contributions of this paper include a quantitative behavior model of fear of COVID-19, impact of government interventions on consumer behavior, and impact of consumer behavior on consumer choice and hence demand for goods. It brings together multiple models for disease progression, consumer behavior and demand estimation-thus bridging the gap between disease progression and consumer demand. We use panel regression to understand the drivers of demand during the pandemic and Bayesian inference to simplify the regulation landscape that can help build scenarios for resilient demand planning. We illustrate this resilient demand planning model using a specific example of gas retailing. We find that demand is sensitive to fear of COVID-19: as the number of COVID-19 cases increase over the previous week, the demand for gas decreases -- though this dissipates over time. Abstract

Mycobacteriophages Deby, LaterM, LilPharaoh, Paola, SgtBeansprout, and Sulley were isolated from soil using Mycobacterium smegmatis mc2155. Genomic analysis indicated that they belong to subclusters K1 and K5. Their genomic architectures are typical of cluster K mycobacteriophages, with most variability occurring on the right end of the genome sequence.

Abstract

Network traffic is difficult to monitor and analyze, especially in high-bandwidth networks. Performance analysis, in particular, presents extreme complexity and scalability challenges. GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) technology has been utilized recently to accelerate general purpose scientific and engineering computing. GPUs offer extreme thread-level parallelism with hundreds of simple cores. Their data-parallel execution model can rapidly solve large problems with inherent data parallelism. At Fermilab, we have prototyped a GPU-accelerated network performance monitoring system, called G-NetMon, to support large-scale scientific collaborations. In this work, we explore new opportunities in network traffic monitoring and analysis with GPUs. Our system exploits the data parallelism that exists within network flow data to provide fast analysis of bulk data movement between Fermilab and collaboration sites. Experiments demonstrate that our G-NetMon can rapidly detect sub-optimal bulk data movements.
