Abstract

Dynamic behaviour of a WMN imposes stringent constraints on the routing policy of the network. In the shortest path based routing the shortest paths needs to be evaluated within a given time frame allowed by the WMN dynamics. The exact reasoning based shortest path evaluation methods usually fail to meet this rigid requirement. Thus, requiring some soft computing based approaches which can replace "best for sure" solutions with "good enough" solutions. This paper proposes a framework for optimal routing in the WMNs; where we investigate the suitability of Big Bang-Big Crunch (BB-BC), a soft computing based approach to evaluate shortest/near-shortest path. In order to make routing optimal we first propose to replace distance between the adjacent nodes with an integrated cost measure that takes into account throughput, delay, jitter and residual energy of a node. A fuzzy logic based inference mechanism evaluates this cost measure at each node. Using this distance measure we apply BB-BC optimization algorithm to evaluate shortest/near shortest path to update the routing tables periodically as dictated by network requirements. A large number of simulations were conducted and it has been observed that BB-BC algorithm appears to be a high potential candidate suitable for routing in WMNs., Comment: 8 pages, 19 Figures

Abstract

Due to dynamic network conditions, routing is the most critical part in WMNs and needs to be optimised. The routing strategies developed for WMNs must be efficient to make it an operationally self configurable network. Thus we need to resort to near shortest path evaluation. This lays down the requirement of some soft computing approaches such that a near shortest path is available in an affordable computing time. This paper proposes a Fuzzy Logic based integrated cost measure in terms of delay, throughput and jitter. Based upon this distance (cost) between two adjacent nodes we evaluate minimal shortest path that updates routing tables. We apply two recent soft computing approaches namely Big Bang Big Crunch (BB-BC) and Biogeography Based Optimization (BBO) approaches to enumerate shortest or near short paths. BB-BC theory is related with the evolution of the universe whereas BBO is inspired by dynamical equilibrium in the number of species on an island. Both the algorithms have low computational time and high convergence speed. Simulation results show that the proposed routing algorithms find the optimal shortest path taking into account three most important parameters of network dynamics. It has been further observed that for the shortest path problem BB-BC outperforms BBO in terms of speed and percent error between the evaluated minimal path and the actual shortest path., Comment: 11 Pages, 7 Figures

Abstract

With the ever increasing volume of information over wireless medium, security has assumed an important dimension. The security of transmitted data over a wireless channel aims at protecting the data from unauthorized intrusion. Wireless network security is achieved using cryptographic primitives. Some properties that give encryption mechanism their cryptographic strength also make them very sensitive to channel error as well. Therefore, security for data transmission over wireless channel results in throughput loss. Trade-off between security and throughput is always a major concern in wireless networks. In this paper, a Link Adaptive Encryption scheme is evaluated that adapts to channel variations and enhances the security level of WLANs without making any compromise with the network performance. Numerical results obtained through simulation are compared with the fixed block length encryption technique in two different modes of operation- Electronic Code Book (ECB) & Cipher Block Chaining (CBC). Optimal block length is also computed, which is assumed to be the effective strength of the cipher. It has been observed that security attained with link adaptive scheme operating in ECB mode of cipher is a better solution for security and throughput trade-off. Fourth Generation (4G) Wireless System will integrate heterogeneous wireless overlay systems i.e. interworking of WLAN/ GSM/ CDMA/ WiMAX/ LTE/ etc with guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) and Experience (QoE).QoS(E) vary from network to network and is application sensitive. User needs an optimal mobility solution while roaming in Overlaid wireless environment i.e. user could seamlessly transfer his session/ call to a best available network bearing guaranteed Quality of Experience. And If this Seamless transfer of session is executed between two networks having different access standards then it is called Vertical Handover (VHO). Contemporary VHO decision algorithms are based on generic QoS metrics viz. SNR, bandwidth, jitter, BER and delay. In this paper, Error Vector Magnitude (EVM) is proposed to be a generic QoS trigger for VHO execution. EVM is defined as the deviation of inphase/ quadrature (I/Q) values from ideal signal states and thus provides a measure of signal quality. In 4G Interoperable environment, OFDM is the leading Modulation scheme (more prone to multi-path fading). EVM (modulation error) properly characterises the wireless link/ channel for accurate VHO decision. EVM depends on the inherent transmission impairments viz. frequency offset, phase noise, non-linear-impairment, skewness etc. for a given wireless link. Paper provides an insight to the analytical aspect of EVM & measures EVM (%) for key management subframes like association/re-association/disassociation/ probe request/response frames. EVM relation is explored for different possible NAV-Network Allocation Vectors (frame duration). Abstract

Healthcare is the foremost concern for any country. UN has also fixed 'good health' and well‐being' as its third sustainable development goal. CoVID‐19 era has shown the vulnerability of health infrastructure worldwide. As per WHO, aging population of the world would put enormous pressure on health infrastructure in coming decades. With lack of healthcare professionals and limited budget to achieve UNSDG goal‐3, IoMT with its huge umbrella of medical services and applications can address these issues. 5G has been deployed in many countries and vision for 6G have been finalized by different research groups. 6G will help Internet of Medical Things to realize its full potential. In this work, an open '6G enabled IoMT' architecture has been presented. It can integrate a wide number of services. The limitations of 5G in catering to such a network are also highlighted. The challenges and open issues are presented in the light of services and applications that can be provided by the purposed architecture. A brief overview of 6G is also provided. 37. Study of range free centroid based localization algorithm and its improvement using particle swarm optimization for wireless sensor networks under log normal shadowing

Abstract

Localization deals with the determination of coordinates of unknown nodes for proper routing of data in wireless sensor networks. The centroid based localization algorithm (CLA) has been explored to a great extent till date. Its basic and improved form suffers from large localization error. In the present work the basic range free centroid based localization algorithm is studied under log normal shadowing and evaluated in terms of localization error. Further the basic CLA is improved by using the particle swarm optimization (PSO) under the same environment. The localization error for basic and PSO based CLA is calculated by varying the anchor ratio, communication range, number of unknown nodes, and network area. In every condition the PSO based CLA performs well over basic CLA in terms of reduction in localization error. The localization error in the proposed work is smallest as compared to other known centroid based localization algorithms.
