Introduction: Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) has enabled the Government of India to become a strategic purchaser of health care services from private providers. To generate base cost evidence for evidence-based policymaking the Costing of Health Services in India (CHSI) study was commissioned in 2018 for the price setting of health benefit packages. This paper reports the findings of a process evaluation of the cost data collection in the private hospitals. Methods: The process evaluation of health system costing in private hospitals was an exploratory survey with mixed methods (quantitative and qualitative). We used three approaches–an online survey using a semi-structured questionnaire, in-depth interviews, and a review of monitoring data. The process of data collection was assessed in terms of time taken for different aspects, resources used, level and nature of difficulty encountered, challenges and solutions. Results: The mean time taken for data collection in a private hospital was 9.31 (± 1.0) person months including time for obtaining permissions, actual data collection and entry, and addressing queries for data completeness and quality. The longest time was taken to collect data on human resources (30%), while it took the least time for collecting information on building and space (5%). On a scale of 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest) difficulty levels, the data on human resources was the most difficult to collect. This included data on salaries (8), time allocation (5.5) and leaves (5). Discussion: Cost data from private hospitals is crucial for mixed health systems. Developing formal mechanisms of cost accounting data and data sharing as pre-requisites for empanelment under a national insurance scheme can significantly ease the process of cost data collection. Managing the early-age thermal behavior of mass concrete structures like dams, dykes, bridge piers, thick raft foundations, etc., is the major concern during their construction. The heat of hydration (HOH) of the fresh concrete pour does not get easily dissipated to ambiance since concrete is predominantly a poor conductor of heat. Eventually, in the presence of external boundary conditions (thermal or mechanical), the slower rate of heat dissipation may at times induce a substantial thermal gradient within the mass concrete which further may induce thermal stresses leading to the formation of cracks. The article attempts to develop a thermo-mechanical numerical model based on the finite element (FE) methodology to mimic the early age behavior of mass concrete that accounts for time and temperature-dependent heat generation during the hydration process with the evolution of thermal and mechanical properties over time. A two-stage sequential thermo-mechanical model is developed consisting of a thermal model to assess the thermal history of a particular concrete mix which is experimentally validated by performing thermal monitoring of a fresh concrete pour for 10 days, and a mechanical model to assess the stress and the cracking states, the model utilizes the concrete damage plasticity (CDP) model based on the principle of continuum damage mechanics which is characterized by experimental results. Background: In low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), provisioning for surgical care is a public health priority. Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri-Jan Aarogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) is India’s largest national insurance scheme providing free surgical and medical care. In this paper, we present the costs of surgical health benefit packages (HBPs) for secondary care in public district hospitals.The costs were estimated using mixed (top-down and bottom-up) micro-costing methods. In phase II of the Costing of Health Services in India (CHSI) study, data were collected from a sample of 27 district hospitals from nine states of India. The district hospitals were selected using stratified random sampling based on the district’s composite development score. We estimated unit costs for individual services—outpatient (OP) visit, per bed-day in inpatient (IP) and intensive care unit (ICU) stays, and surgical procedures. Together, this was used to estimate the cost of 250 AB PM-JAY HBPs.At the current level of utilization, the mean cost per OP consultation varied from US$4.10 to US$2.60 among different surgical specialities. The mean unit cost per IP bed-day ranged from US$13.40 to US$35.60. For the ICU, the mean unit cost per bed-day was US$74. Soil biology is vital for maintaining productivity, enhancing soil health, and creating resilient agroecosystems. However, many questions remain on how microbial communities are impacted by different soil properties and management practices, especially on grower‐managed fields. This study examined soil biological health properties (0–15 cm) and field history data from 310 grower‐managed fields within Michigan between Fall 2019 and Spring 2021. The objectives were to evaluate the impact of soil texture, tillage, and crop diversity on microbial populations and examine the relationship between soil health indicators and microbial community. Phospholipid fatty acid analysis was used to estimate total microbial abundance and composition of broad taxonomic groups like bacteria, fungi, arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi, actinomycetes, and eukaryotes. Other soil health indicators measured were organic carbon, permanganate oxidizable carbon, potentially mineralizable nitrogen, phosphorus, calcium, potassium, magnesium, and water‐stable aggregation. Soil texture did not significantly influence microbial community except for actinomycetes, which were significantly higher in fine‐textured soils. Tillage had the largest influence on microbial communities, with significantly lower values for all microbes in tilled compared to no‐till fields. Crop diversity had a minimal impact, affecting only arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and eukaryote populations. All measured soil health indicators were positively associated with microbial populations except for phosphorous, which had a negative correlation (r = −0.56 to −0.66). Overall, we conclude that tillage is the dominant driver of soil biological health on grower‐managed fields across Michigan. Consequently, adoption of no‐till management practices where possible can help restore soil health and long‐term sustainability in agroecosystems. Applying rubber aggregates (RA) obtained from used rubber tires in concrete is an innovative method to substitute natural aggregate (NA) to perform sustainable construction practices. RA in concrete is not only helpful to remove the burden of used rubber tire heaps from the earth but may also give a better alternative to the fast-depleting NA. Graphene oxide (GO) was mixed in the RC to modify the physical and mechanical properties of rubberized concrete (RC). An experimental study was performed on the sixteen different concrete samples of GO-mixed RC with the help of workability, density, air content, compressive strength, tensile strength, and flexural strength tests. The research findings indicated that GO had a beneficial impact by enhancing the density, compressive strength, tensile strength, and flexural strength by counteracting the detrimental effects caused by RA on concrete. Increments up to 0.72 %, 16.23 %, 8.82 %, and 6.48 %, respectively, were reported in the density, compressive strength, tensile strength, and flexural strength of RC after the inclusion of GO. However, the incorporation of GO tended to reduce workability (up to 13.04 %) and air content (by 1.5 %) in the RC. Different optimization techniques like response surface methodology (RSM), analysis of variance (ANOVA), and heatmap correlation were applied to the experimental results. Long‐term weather patterns (environmental conditions or stresses exceeding 10 days in length) have the potential to influence corn (Zea mays L.) growth, development, and yield. This review summarizes the current knowledge (with emphasis placed on the Midwestern U.S. production environment) on how long‐term weather conditions affect corn growth and yield, including (i) drought and heat stress, (ii) solar radiation, and (iii) distribution of heat unit accumulation during the season. Each section contains summaries of how these environmental factors influence corn growth and yield and provides context into past events experienced. The focus of the review is on dent corn grown for grain production, though relevant issues related to other types (i.e., silage corn) are included. This review also discusses agronomic recommendations or considerations to help alleviate the negative effects of stress conditions and identify areas where future research would be beneficial to continue improving the resiliency of corn cropping systems. Periods of high heat and water deficit as well as limited light availability challenge the ability to maximize yield production in corn. Temperature affects crop growth and development through the season, and accurately describing phenological progression using heat unit accumulation is a challenge. Advances in corn breeding and genetics, hybrid selection, and agronomic management practices will be key to ensuring long‐range productivity and fully leveraging possible benefits from the shifts in long‐range weather patterns. Use of agro-chemicals in forage crops is restricted due to the fear of direct toxicity to livestock and risk of pesticide residue accumulation in the food chain. Wheat and barley can be used as green fodder and silage, and herbicide residue estimation in green fodder and silage is important for ensuring the safety of dairy cattle. A field experiment was conducted for two years to study pendimethalin residues in the green fodder and silage of wheat and barley. In both cereal crops, pendimethalin (1.125 kg a.i./ha) was applied as pre-emergence along with an unsprayed control. Pendimethalin residues in fodder, silage, and soil were estimated using gas chromatographytandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS). At harvest, pendimethalin residues in fodder and silage of wheat and barley were below the limit of quantification (<0.01 mg/kg) during both crop seasons. Background: A national study, 'Costing of healthcare services in India' (CHSI) aimed at generating reliable healthcare cost estimates for health technology assessment and price-setting is being undertaken in India. CHSI sampled 52 public and 40 private hospitals in 13 states and used a mixed micro-costing approach. This paper aims to outline the process, challenges and critical lessons of cost data collection to feed methodological and quality improvement of data collection. Methods: An exploratory survey with 3 components–an online semi-structured questionnaire, group discussion and review of monitoring data, was conducted amongst CHSI data collection teams. There were qualitative and quantitative components. Difficulty in obtaining individual data was rated on a Likert scale. Results: Mean time taken to complete cost data collection in one department/speciality was 7.86(±0.51) months, majority of which was spent on data entry and data issues resolution. Data collection was most difficult for determination of equipment usage (mean difficulty score 6.59±0.52), consumables prices (6.09±0.58), equipment price(6.05±0.72), and furniture price(5.64±0.68). Human resources, drugs & consumables contributed to 78% of total cost and 31% of data collection time. However, furniture, overheads and equipment consumed 51% of time contributing only 9% of total cost. Seeking multiple permissions, absence of electronic records, multiple sources of data were key challenges causing delays. Conclusions: Micro-costing is time and resource intensive. Addressing key issues prior to data collection would ease the process of data collection, improve quality of estimates and aid priority setting. The 'Cost of Health Services in India (CHSI)' is the first large scale multi-site facility costing study to incorporate evidence from a national sample of both private and public sectors at different levels of the health system in India. This paper provides an overview of the extent of heterogeneity in costs caused by various supply-side factors.A total of 38 public (11 tertiary care and 27 secondary care) and 16 private hospitals were sampled from 11 states of India. From the sampled facilities, a total of 327 specialties were included, with 48, 79 and 200 specialties covered in tertiary, private and district hospitals respectively. A mixed methodology consisting of both bottom-up and top-down costing was used for data collection. Unit costs per service output were calculated at the cost centre level (outpatient, inpatient, operating theatre, and ICU) and compared across provider type and geographical location.The unadjusted cost per admission was highest for tertiary facilities (₹ 5690, 75 USD) followed by private facilities (₹ 4839, 64 USD) and district hospitals (₹ 3447, 45 USD). Differences in unit costs were found across types of providers, resulting from both variations in capacity utilisation, length of stay and the scale of activity. In addition, significant differences in costs were found associated with geographical location (city classification).The reliance on cost information from single sites or small samples ignores the issue of heterogeneity driven by both demand and supply-side factors. The CHSI cost data set provides a unique insight into cost variability across different types of providers in India. The present analysis shows that both geographical location and the scale of activity are important determinants for deriving the cost of a health service and should be accounted for in healthcare decision making from budgeting to economic evaluation and price-setting. The phenological and growth parameters of CERES-Maize were estimated using data from field variety trials in 2017 and 2018 to simulate hybrid maize (Zea mays L.) grown in Michigan. Multiple calibration methods used include GENCALC (Genotype Coefficient Calculator), GLUE (Generalized Likelihood Uncertainty Estimate), NMCGA (Noisy Monte Carlo Genetic Algorithm) and ensembling approach. Three irrigated sites were used for calibration while six rainfed sites for evaluation. Better results were obtained when using multiple years of data in calibration than using only a single year. Model evaluation also suggests that fixed soil root growth factor (SRGF) used in calibration (irrigated condition) tended to restrict root dynamics under rainfed condition. This resulted in substantial yield mismatch due to poorly modeled yields, although phenology was better predicted. Adjusting SRGF under rainfed condition resulted in better model evaluation for both years. Moreover, weighted averaging of genetic coefficients resulted in better predictions of phenology and yields. • Ensembling of genetic coefficients improved phenology and yield predictions. • Root growth factor in CERES-Maize needs adjustment under water stressed conditions. • Robust genetic coefficients calibrated over multiple seasons can help improve prediction of phenology and yield. Summary Anduril is an analysis and integration framework that facilitates the design, use, parallelization and reproducibility of bioinformatics workflows. Anduril has been upgraded to use Scala for pipeline construction, which simplifies software maintenance, and facilitates design of complex pipelines. Additionally, Anduril's bioinformatics repository has been expanded with multiple components, and tutorial pipelines, for next-generation sequencing data analysis.
