Relating this to complete denture impression technique, we have been provided with a set of philosophies - "no pressure, minimal pressure, definite pressure and selective pressure". The objectives and principles of impression-making have been clearly defined. Do you think any philosophy can satisfy any operator to work on these principles and achieve these objectives? These philosophies take into consideration only the tissue part and not the complete basal seat, which comprises the periphery, the tissues and the bone structure. Under such circumstances, should we consider a code of practice dangerous or should we develop an evidence-based approach having a scientific background following certain principles, providing the flexibility to adapt to clinical procedures and to normal biological variations in patients rather than the rigidity imposed by strict laws?

The proposed dual-core photonic crystal fibers (DC-PCFs) structure has been simulated using FIMMWAVE and its performance has been evaluated using Finite element method (FEM). The requirement of full crown restoration for abutments of existing Cast partial removable denture is common. Retrofitting a crown to existing cast partial denture (CPD) clasps and guiding planes is a challenging task. Literature describes various direct, indirect, and direct-indirect techniques to overcome this dilemma. All these involve elaborate steps, necessitating refabrication of CPD or extended clinical adjustment time for ensuring a proper fit that is elusive in most cases and also patient has to do without CPD during laboratory procedure. The recent use of computer-aided design-computer-aided manufacture technology for this purpose is proving to be a promising but expensive option. A simple technique is presented here to generate a blueprint of required final contours to facilitate a fully contoured metal crown to fit under an existing CPD. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nutrition is the science of how the body utilizes food to meet requirement for development, growth, repair and maintenance. A variety of physiologic and psychosocial changes occur with aging that detrimentally impact nutritional status and general health of geriatric denture population. An understanding of nutritional status, requirement and systemic/oral factors influencing nutrition intake will assist dental clinician in identifying the risk and further referring to dietician. This paper provides an overview on the factors affecting nutritional status, and the phases of assessment of nutritional status of geriatric denture population.
