Purpose: The current study aimed to determine the effect of a synthetic-grass sport surface on core body temperature, skin temperature, heart rate, thermal sensation, thermal comfort, and rating of perceived exertion (RPE) during intermittent exercise in hot conditions. Methods: Using a randomized crossover design, 13 trained/developmental team-sport athletes completed two 50-minute standardized intermittent running protocols on a synthetic and a natural-grass surface, on separate days (control-condition air temperature 32.6 °C [1.3 °C], relative humidity 43.2% [5.3%]). Results: Final skin temperature was significantly higher on synthetic compared with natural grass at the calf (40.1 °C [2.5 °C] vs 33.4 °C [0.6 °C]; P <.001), shoulder (36.6 °C [1.7 °C] vs 33.7 °C [0.7 °C]; P <.001), and chest (33.2 °C [1.1 °C] vs 31.8 °C [1.2 °C]; P =.02). Thermal sensation (median: 2.3; interquartile range [0.5] vs 2.2 [0.5], P =.03) and sweat rate (1.5 [0.4] L·h−1 vs 1.2 [0.3] L·h−1; P =.02) were also significantly higher on synthetic grass. While final core body temperature was significantly higher on the natural than synthetic grass (38.4 °C [0.3 °C] vs 38.2 °C [0.4 °C]), there were no significant differences in delta core temperature, as well as heart rate, thermal comfort, or RPE. Conclusions: Higher skin temperatures, thermal sensation, and sweat rates suggest that exercising on synthetic grass in hot conditions may increase some markers of heat strain during exercise. Purpose: Precooling (PreC) may only benefit performance when thermal strain experienced by an individual is sufficiently high. We explored the effect of mixed-method PreC on 20-km cycling time-trial (CTT) performance under 3 different apparent temperatures (AT). Methods: On separate days, 12 trained or highly trained male cyclists/triathletes completed six 20-km CTTs in 3 different ATs: hot-dry (35 °C AT), moderately hot-humid (40 °C AT), and hot-humid (46 °C AT). All trials were preceded by 30 minutes of mixed-method PreC or no PreC (control [CON]). Results: Faster 2.5-km-split completion times occurred in PreC compared with CON in 46 °C AT (P =.02), but not in 40 °C AT (P =.62) or 35 °C AT (P =.57). PreC did not affect rectal and body temperature during the 20-km CTT. Skin temperature was lower throughout the CTT in PreC compared with CON in 46 °C AT (P =.01), but not in 40 °C AT (P = 1.00) and 35 °C AT (P = 1.00). Heart rate had a greater rate of increase during the CTT for PreC compared with CON in 46 °C AT (P =.01), but not in 40 °C AT (P =.57) and 35 °C AT (P = 1.00). Ratings of perceived exertion (P <.001) and thermal comfort (P =.04) were lower for PreC compared with CON in 46 °C AT only, while thermal sensation was not different between PreC and CON. Conclusion: Mixed-method PreC should be applied prior to 20-km CTTs conducted in hot-humid conditions (≥46 °C AT). Alternatively, mixed-method PreC may be a priority in moderately hot-humid (∼40 °C AT) conditions but should not be in hot-dry (∼35 °C AT) conditions for 20-km CTT. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The menstrual cycle is a loop involving the interplay of different organs and hormones, with the capacity to impact numerous physiological processes, including body temperature and heart rate, which in turn display menstrual rhythms. The advent of wearable devices that can continuously track physiological data opens the possibility of using these prolonged time series of skin temperature data to noninvasively detect the temperature variations that occur in ovulatory menstrual cycles. Here, we show that the menstrual skin temperature variation is better represented by a model of oscillation, the cosinor, than by a biphasic square wave model. We describe how applying a cosinor model to a menstrual cycle of distal skin temperature data can be used to assess whether the data oscillate or not, and in cases of oscillation, rhythm metrics for the cycle, including mesor, amplitude, and acrophase, can be obtained. We apply the method to wearable temperature data collected at a minute resolution each day from 120 female individuals over a menstrual cycle to illustrate how the method can be used to derive and present menstrual cycle characteristics, which can be used in other analyses examining indicators of female health. The cosinor method, frequently used in circadian rhythms studies, can be employed in research to facilitate the assessment of menstrual cycle effects on physiological parameters, and in clinical settings to use the characteristics of the menstrual cycles as health markers or to facilitate menstrual chronotherapy.

To improve occupant comfort and save energy in buildings, we have developed a closed-loop air conditioning (AC) sensor-controller that predicts occupant thermal sensation from the thermographic measurement of skin temperature distribution, then uses this information to reduce overcooling (cooling-energy overuse that discomforts occupants) by regulating AC output. Taking measures to protect privacy, it combines thermal-infrared (TIR) and color (visible spectrum) cameras with machine vision to measure the skin-surface temperature profile. Since the human thermoregulation system uses skin blood flow to maintain thermoneutrality, the distribution of skin temperature can be used to predict warm, neutral, and cool thermal states. We conducted a series of human-subject thermal-sensation trials in cold-to-hot environments, measuring skin temperatures and recording thermal sensation votes. We then trained random-forest classification machine-learning models (classifiers) to estimate thermal sensation from skin temperatures or skin-temperature differences. The estimated thermal sensation was input to a proportional integral (PI) control algorithm for the AC, targeting a sensation level between neutral and warm. Our sensor-controller includes a sensor assembly, server software, and client software. The server software orients the cameras and transmits images to the client software, which in turn assesses occupant skin temperature distribution, estimates occupant thermal sensation, and controls AC operation. A demonstration conducted in a conference room in an office building near Houston, TX showed that our system reduced overcooling, decreasing AC load by 42% when the room was occupied while improving occupant comfort (fraction of “comfortable” votes) by 15 percentage points.

In India, where dairy production leads globally, infrared thermography (IRT) and short milking tube thermography specifically are vital for managing mastitis. Therefore, the present study focuses on thermal imaging of the udder and short milking tube (SMT) of the milking machine during the peak milking process of Sahiwal cows and Murrah buffaloes during winter, summer, rainy and autumn seasons to identify sub-clinical (SCM) and clinical mastitis (CM) cases using the Darvi DTL007 camera. The udder health was assessed using the California Mastitis Test, Somatic Cell Count (SCC) and IRT throughout the year. Log10SCC and thermogram analysis revealed a difference (p < 0.01) between healthy, SCM, and CM cases during different seasons in both breeds. Further results showed an increase (p < 0.01) in SMT thermograms of SCM and CM cases compared to healthy quarters in Sahiwal cows during winter, summer, rainy, and autumn were 4.26 and 7.51, 2.37 and 4.47, 2.20 and 3.64, 2.90 and 4.94 ºC, respectively and for Murrah buffaloes were 3.56 and 5.55, 2.70 and 3.81, 1.72 and 3.10, 3.14 and 4.42ºC, respectively. The highest degree of increase in milking udder skin surface temperature and SMT of SCM and CM cases compared to healthy quarters was observed during the winter and the least during the rainy season. Background: The efficacy of whole-body cryostimulation (WBC) may be influenced by individual characteristics. The aim of this study is to determine the optimal exposure time required to reach the analgesic threshold of 13.6 °C, which has been proposed to be a target temperature to be reached at skin level. Our objective is also to follow the skin temperature changes during and after WBC considering the participants body mass index (BMI). Methods: Thirty healthy men were assigned into 2 groups based on their BMI [normal weight (n = 15; BMI = 21.53 ± 1.63 kg·m−2) and overweight (n = 15; BMI = 27.98 ± 1.16 kg·m−2)]. In a random order, each participant experienced a 4-min WBC exposure, as well as a control session with no cold exposure. Skin temperature was measured using a thermal imaging camera during and after cold exposure. Results: Normal weight participants reached the threshold in 4 min, whereas overweight participants reached it in 3 min 30 s. Following WBC, a rapid mean skin temperature (MsT°) increase was observed for both groups, immediately after exposure. However, after 30 min, MsT° remained significantly lower than at baseline. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that appropriate WBC dosage may differ according to BMI. WEMAC is a unique open multi-modal dataset that comprises physiological, speech, and self-reported emotional data records of 100 women, targeting Gender-based Violence detection. Emotions were elicited through visualizing a validated video set using an immersive virtual reality headset. The physiological signals captured during the experiment include blood volume pulse, galvanic skin response, and skin temperature. The speech was acquired right after the stimuli visualization to capture the final traces of the perceived emotion. Subjects were asked to annotate among 12 categorical emotions, several dimensional emotions with a modified version of the Self-Assessment Manikin, and liking and familiarity labels. The technical validation proves that all the targeted categorical emotions show a strong statistically significant positive correlation with their corresponding reported ones. That means that the videos elicit the desired emotions in the users in most cases. AbstractThe term vibration perception threshold (VPT) refers to the minimum amplitude required for a vibration to be consciously perceived. Knowledge of VPTs can be used to aid in the diagnosis of various pathologies, or to support design decisions during human-machine interface development. However, several factors affect VPT measurements (e.g., contactor size and pressure), thus, comparing VPT results from multiple studies should not be done without considering both the similarities and differences between said studies. This paper presents a systematic review on VPT results obtained across multiple studies, taking into consideration the different factors affecting the values reported in the literature. We intended to answer the following question: “What are the Vibration Perception Thresholds assessed on the glabrous skin of the hands and fingers of healthy humans?” To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt at conducting a systematic review focused specifically on numerical VPT results. Starting from 936 records, VPT results from 37 studies were organized according to various factors (gender, age, probe size, contact pressure, psychophysical method, room temperature, skin temperature, and hand location). This data was organized into a table, the Organization Table that is available for readers. This review can help future researchers and developers working on or working with the topic of human perception of vibrations by examining the factors that affect VPTs and discussing strategies to address them. The model for predicting thermal comfort conditions established by Fanger remains widely used in scientific work, as a default means of in situ measurements. However, the use of Fanger data leads to dissatisfaction among users of air-conditioned buildings in humid tropical areas. This conclusion emerges from the work of Kemajou and al. (Cameroon) and Olissan and al. (Benin) in 2012, after survey studies on the judgments of thermal sensations of people occupying various air-conditioned spaces. This article develops a correction model for the Fanger model, by coupling the latter to models for predicting skin temperature and heat loss by evaporation of sweat through the skin, as well as to the skin thermal sensitivity of people active in a humid tropical climate. The model thus determined shows that the predicted optimal comfort temperatures are located in the range of 26.1 °C to 27.5 °C and better meets the expectations of the populations in this region. The respective differences with the investigations of Kemajou and al. and those of Olissan and al. are 0.40 °C and 0.55 °C. Background/Objectives: Infrared thermography (IRT) is an imaging technique used in clinical practice to detect changes in skin temperature caused by several dysfunctions, including breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL). Thus, the present study aimed to assess the reproducibility and accuracy of IRT in diagnosing BCRL. Methods: This cross-sectional study included participants who underwent a unilateral mastectomy and used indirect volumetry for lymphedema detection. IRT analysis was recorded in four positions, analyzing maximum, mean, and minimum temperatures, as well as the temperature differences between the upper limbs. The analysis encompassed reliability, agreement, accuracy, and the establishment of cut-off points for sensitivity and specificity. A total of 88 upper limbs were included; 176 thermograms were captured, and 1056 regions of interest were analyzed. Results: IRT presented excellent intra- and inter-rater reproducibility and reliability with excellent intraclass correlation coefficient values (0.99 to 1.00). In addition, this assessment reached a sensitivity of 85% and a specificity of 56%; the cut-off point considered a temperature difference of −0.45 °C. Conclusions: IRT was a reliable and reproducible assessment, and the temperature difference between the upper limbs evidenced moderate accuracy. Inversion of the photoplethysmographic (PPG) signal is a rarely reported case. This signal anomaly can have implications for PPG-based cardiovascular assessments. The conditions for PPG signal inversion in the vicinity of the dorsalis pedis (DPA) artery of the foot were investigated. Wireless multi-wavelength PPG sensing with skin-probe contact pressure and local skin temperature were studied at different sensor positions, and the occurrence of inversion (OOI) was investigated. Twelve healthy adult volunteers were studied over four LED wavelengths at three levels of contact pressure for 11 probe positions. A novel algorithm quantified the proportion of inverted samples with respect to the abovementioned variables. Our algorithm classifying inverted vs. non-inverted pulses achieved 98.3% accuracy. Ten of the participants had at least one inverted signal identified. The impact of interindividual variation on inversion prevalence was large, but different LEDs, relative position to the DPA and sensor contact pressure also affected OOI. Skin surface and room temperatures showed no impact on OOI. Lateral measurements showed 39.6% more inversion at maximum compared to minimum contact pressure. Mechanical capillary bed variations and arterial reflections during venous engorgement are considered viable explanations for our observations. The paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus (PVN) regulates physiological and behavioural responses evoked by stressful stimuli, but the local neurochemical and signalling mechanisms involved are not completely understood. The soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC) within the PVN is implicated in autonomic and cardiovascular control in rodents under resting conditions. However, the involvement of PVN sGC‐mediated signalling in stress responses is unknown. Therefore, we investigated the role of sGC within the PVN in cardiovascular, autonomic, neuroendocrine, and local neuronal responses to acute restraint stress in rats. Bilateral microinjection of the selective sGC inhibitor ODQ (1 nmol/100 nl) into the PVN reduced both the increased arterial pressure and the drop in cutaneous tail temperature evoked by restraint stress, while the tachycardia was enhanced. Intra‐PVN injection of ODQ did not alter the number of Fos‐immunoreactive neurons in either the dorsal cap parvocellular (PaDC), ventromedial (PaV), medial parvocellular (PaMP), or lateral magnocelllular (PaLM) portions of the PVN following acute restraint stress. Local microinjection of ODQ into the PVN did not affect the restraint‐induced increases in plasma corticosterone concentration. Taken together, these findings suggest that sGC‐mediated signalling in the PVN plays a key role in acute stress‐induced pressor responses and sympathetically mediated cutaneous vasoconstriction, whereas the tachycardiac response is inhibited. Absence of an effect of ODQ on corticosterone and PVN neuronal activation in and the PaV and PaMP suggests that PVN sGC is not involved in restraint‐evoked hypothalamus‐pituitary‐adrenal (HPA) axis activation and further indicates that autonomic and neuroendocrine responses are dissociable at the level of the PVN. Following the global progressive deployment of 5G networks, considerable attention has focused on assessing their potential impact on human health. This study aims to investigate autonomous nervous system changes by exploring skin temperature and electrodermal activity (EDA) among 44 healthy young individuals of both sexes during and after exposure to 3.5 GHz antenna‐emitted signals, with an electrical field intensity ranging from 1 to 2 V/m. The study employed a randomized, cross‐over design with triple‐blinding, encompassing both ‘real’ and ‘sham’ exposure sessions, separated by a maximum interval of 1 week. Each session comprised baseline, exposure and postexposure phases, resulting in the acquisition of seven runs. Each run initiated with a 150 s segment of EDA recordings stimulated by 10 repeated beeps. Subsequently, the collected data underwent continuous decomposition analysis, generating specific indicators assessed alongside standard metrics such as trough‐to‐peak measurements, global skin conductance and maximum positive peak deflection. Additionally, non‐invasive, real‐time skin temperature measurements were conducted to evaluate specific anatomical points (hand, head and neck). The study suggests that exposure to 3.5 GHz signals may potentially affect head and neck temperature, indicating a slight increase in this parameter. Furthermore, there was a minimal modulation of certain electrodermal metrics after the exposure, suggesting a potentially faster physiological response to auditory stimulation. However, while the results are significant, they remain within the normal physiological range and could be a consequence of an uncontrolled variable. ABSTRACT In this research, animal samples were subjected to skin rejuvenation using the floating electrode dielectric barrier discharge plasma device. Plasma processing was performed on the dorsal area of the rat's neck, covering a surface area of 18 cm2. Biometric assessments, encompassing measurements of skin surface evaporation, moisture content, melanin and erythema levels, as well as skin firmness and elasticity, were conducted before treatment initiation, immediately posttreatment, at the 4th and the 10th week during the follow‐up period. Physical examinations were employed to investigate and record the active species generated by plasma as well as the temperature of the skin surface. Assessing the responses to the application of photobiomodulation using red and infrared spectrum light-emitting diodes (LED) on diabetic foot ulcers. Diabetic volunteers, of both genders, aged between 30 and 65 years, with grade I or II ulcers, were randomized into the groups: red LED, infrared LED, LED associated, and control. Home-based interventions took place on a daily basis for 12 weeks. Assessments of sample characterization were performed on day 1 and 90, and the variables wound healing index, mean skin temperature, sensitivity and pain in the wound area were measured at the pre-intervention time on days 1, 30, 60 and 90, with subsequent follow-up 30 days after the end of treatment. For statistical analysis, the software SPSS, version 17.0, intention-to-treat analysis, data normality was tested, and the linear mixed effects model, with a significance level of 5%. Magnitudes of clinical effect by Cohen's d. At the pre vs post intervention time of 90 days, we found a large clinical effect of G-LED V (d=1.7) and G -LED IV (d=1.6) in relation to G-C, where these intervention groups showed a tendency for faster wound healing compared to G-C. We also observed small clinical effect of G-LED IV, which showed greater reduction in the area in relation to G-LED V (d=0.4) and G-LED A (d=0.3). Conclusion: The use of individually applied red and infrared LED phototherapy clinically tended to be more effective for the reduction of diabetic foot ulcer areas, and infrared LED was the most effective. Polyurethane resin (PU) and boron nitride (BN) are used to develop a series of boron nitride/polyurethane (BN/PU) composite fibers by a wet‐spinning method. The thermal conductivity of the composite fibers was improved by blending modified thermally conductive particles with polymer. The improvement of thermal conductivity depends largely on the interfacial effect between them. The results show that PU composite fabric filled with BN functionalized with polyethylenimine and glutaraldehyde (GPBN/PUF) has a high thermal conductivity, revealing an increase of 226% compared to the PU fabric. The GPBN/PUF fabric can reduce the simulated skin temperature by 2.3°C compared with conventional cotton fabric. Additionally, the as‐prepared GPBN/PUF fabric possesses good mechanical stability and washability. This work provides a strategy for developing flexible heat‐conducting fabric. Introduction: Athletic training requires both challenging stimuli for adaptation and sufficient recovery for improved performance. While cold water immersion (CWI) is already a popular recovery method, handheld percussive massage (PM) devices have also gained popularity in recent years. This study aims to assess the effects of CWI and PM on performance recovery after strenuous eccentric exercises compared to a passive rest (PR) control condition. Methods: Thirty-four healthy physically active participants (9 females, 25 males) were randomly divided into three groups: CWI (n = 11), PM (n = 11), and passive rest (PR) (n = 12). They underwent an exhausting eccentric exercise protocol and different measurements at six time points (baseline, POST1, POST2, POST24, POST48, and POST72) over the time course of 72 h. These included subjective assessments of muscle soreness and perceived stiffness as well as measures of skin temperature, leg volume, creatine kinase activity, and three different jump tests. The eccentric exercise protocol consisted of 15 min downhill running (slope: 12%, speed: 10 km/h) and 3 sets of successive depth jumps (dropping height: 0.5 m) until individual exhaustion. After POST1 measurements, participants received 12 min of either CWI (11 ± 0.5°C), PM (40 Hz) or PR (supine posture). Results: No significant group effects were found for the number of depth jumps performed during the exhaustion protocol. All jump tests displayed a significant group x time interaction effect. Post-hoc analysis indicated significant lower jump heights in Î"POST2 between CWI and both PM and PR. No other significant group effects were observed at any time point. No significant group x time interaction effects were noted for CK, leg volume, and soreness. The perceived stiffness showed a significant group x time interaction effect. Post-hoc analysis revealed a significant decrease in stiffness for PM compared to PR at Î"POST2. Conclusion: Neither CWI nor PM showed any significant improvement in performance recovery over the 72-h period following strenuous eccentric exercise compared to PR. Simple Summary: The skin microclimate can be defined as the relationship between temperature and moisture of the skin surface, being considered a risk factor for the development of pressure injuries. The objective was to evaluate the effect of pressure loading on skin temperature and moisture in the heel region of healthy adults. The study was performed at the University of Passo Fundo, Brazil, in October 2022. Ten individuals were evaluated. The pressure loading leads to a decrease in temperature and changes the skin moisture of the heels of healthy individuals. Recent studies emphasize the significance of skin microclimate in the prevention of pressure injuries (PI). The objective was to evaluate the effect of pressure loading on skin temperature and moisture in the heels of healthy adults. This is a before-and-after study performed at Brazil, in October 2022. Skin temperature (°C) was measured by an infrared digital thermometer, and skin moisture (%) using electrical bioimpedance. Ten individuals/twenty heels were evaluated. The average temperature of the right and left heel was the same at baseline (27.2 °C). It was recognized that after 30 min of pressure loading on the heels, there was a decrease in temperature, and after 15 min of pressure offloading, the temperature decreased again. It was found that at t0, the moisture of the right heel (12.6%) was lower than the left heel (15.6%). The median moisture in the right heel increased from t0 to t1 and decreased in t2, while in the left heel, there was a small variation of the median from t0 to t1, as well as to t2. Purpose: Healthcare workers (HCWs) wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) experience physiological strain that can impair motor and psychological functions, potentially affecting patient care. We assessed the effects of heat exposure on maximal strength and risk-taking behavior among PPE-wearing HCWs and the efficacy of ice slurry to alleviate adverse effects. Methods: Seventeen HCWS completed two experimental trials in a crossover design, consuming 5 g·kg−1 of body mass of ambient drink (AMB) or ice slurry (ICE) before donning PPE and undergoing 2 h of simulated decontamination exercise (wet-bulb globe temperature (WBGT): 25.9° C ± 0.8°C, PPE microenvironment WBGT: 29.1°C ± 2.1°C). Body core temperature (Tc), heart rate (HR), chest skin temperature (Tsk), ratings of perceived exertion (RPE), thermal sensation (RTS), maximal voluntary contraction (MVC), risk-taking behavior (balloon analogue risk-taking task (BART)), and salivary cortisol were assessed. Results: Predrinking to postdrinking ΔTc was greater in ICE (−0.2°C ± 0.1°C) than AMB (−0.0°C ± 0.1°C, P = 0.003). Post-drinking RTS was lower in ICE (2.7 ± 1.2) than AMB (4.1 ± 0.4, P < 0.001). ICE and AMB had similar Tc and HR (both P > 0.05), but Tsk was lower in ICE than AMB (P = 0.049). A lower MVC (30.3 ± 6.7 vs 27.4 ± 4.9 kg, P = 0.001) and higher BART-adjusted total pump count (472 ± 170 vs 615 ± 174 pumps, P = 0.017) was observed pretrial to posttrial in AMB but absent in ICE (both P > 0.05). Salivary cortisol was similar between trials (P = 0.42). Conclusions: Heat-exposed PPE-wearing HCWs had impaired maximal strength and elevated risk-taking behavior. This may increase the risk of avoidable workplace accidents that can jeopardize HCWs and patient care. Summary: The present study examined the relationship between subjective sleep onset latency (SOL), sleep structure, changes in skin and body temperature, and subjective evaluation of sleep in healthy young adults to elucidate the pathophysiological mechanisms of insomnia. A total of 28 participants (age 21.54 [0.50] years) with no sleep problems participated in a 1‐h polysomnographic recording that obtained objective sleep parameters during the daytime while skin and body temperatures were recorded. The distal–proximal skin temperature gradient (DPG) was calculated. Subjective parameters, such as subjective SOL, sleep time, and restorative sleepiness, were evaluated before and after sleep. Most participants estimated their sleep latency as being longer than their actual SOL (13.7 versus 7.6 min). Objective SOL was significantly correlated with each sleep stage parameter whereas subjective SOL was negatively correlated with Stage N2 sleep duration (Rho = −0.454, p = 0.020), slow‐wave activity and delta power (Rho = −0.500, p = 0.011 and Rho = −0.432, p = 0.031, respectively), and ΔDPG (the degree of reduction of heat loss before and after lights‐off). Stepwise regression analysis showed that ΔDPG was the strongest predictive factor in explaining the length of subjective SOL. The degree of heat dissipation before and after lights‐off contributed most to the sensation of falling asleep in healthy young adults. The Arabian Peninsula (AP) is notable for its unique meteorological and climatic patterns and plays a pivotal role in understanding regional climate dynamics and dust emissions. The scarcity of ground-based observations makes atmospheric data essential, rendering reanalysis and satellite products invaluable for understanding weather patterns and climate variability. However, the accuracy of these products in the AP's desert environment has not been extensively evaluated. This study undertakes the first comprehensive validation of reanalysis products—the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts' European Reanalysis version 5 (ERA5) and ERA5 Land (ERA5L), along with Clouds and Earth's Radiant Energy System (CERES) radiation fluxes—against measurements from the Liwa desert in the UAE. The data, collected during the Wind-blown Sand Experiment (WISE)–UAE field experiment from July 2022 to December 2023, includes air temperature and relative humidity at 2 m, 10 m wind speed, surface pressure, skin temperature, and net radiation fluxes. Our analysis reveals a strong agreement between ERA5/ERA5L and the observed diurnal T2m cycle, despite a warm night bias and cold day bias with a magnitude within 2 K. The wind speed analysis uncovered a bimodal distribution attributed to sea-breeze circulation and the nocturnal low-level jet, with the reanalysis overestimating the nighttime wind speeds by 2 m s−1. This is linked to biases in nighttime temperatures arising from an inaccurate representation of nocturnal boundary layer processes. The daytime cold bias contrasts with the excessive net radiation flux at the surface by about 50–100 W m−2, underscoring the challenges in the physical representation of land–atmosphere interactions. The thermal grill illusion (TGI), a phenomenon in which the juxtaposition of innocuous warm and cold temperatures on the skin elicits a burning sensation, offers a unique perspective to how pain occurs in response to harmless stimuli. We investigated the role of the spinal cord in the generation of the TGI across 2 experiments (total n580). We applied heat and cold stimuli to dermatomes, areas of skin innervated by a single spinal nerve, that mapped onto adjacent or nonadjacent spinal segments. Enhanced warm and burning ratings during the TGI were observed when cold and warm stimuli were confined within the same dermatome. Furthermore, we found the spatial organisation of warm and cold stimuli within and across dermatomes affected TGI perception. Perceived warmth and burning intensity increased when the cold stimulus projected to the segment more caudal to the warm stimulus, whereas perceived cold during the TGI decreased compared with the opposite spatial arrangement. This suggests that the perception of TGI is enhanced when cold afferents are projected to spinal segments positioned caudally in relation to those receiving warm afferents. Our results indicate distinct interaction of sensory pathways based on the segmental arrangement of afferent fibres and are consistent with current interpretations of the spread and integration of thermosensory information along the spinal cord. This study investigated the impact of a multiday heatwave on nocturnal physiology, behavior, and sleep under controlled conditions with comprehensive monitoring of environmental factors and participant activities. Seven young healthy males were confined for 10 days in controlled conditions that ranged between hot-to-warm (day: 35.4 °C, night: 26.3 °C) during nights 4–6 and temperate (day: 25.4 °C, night: 22.3 °C) before (nights 1–3) and after (nights 7–10) the heatwave. Measurements included core and skin temperatures, heart rate, sympathovagal balance, vasomotion indicators, urine samples, blanket coverage, subjective sleep assessments, and partial polysomnography. The average nocturnal core temperature was 0.2 °C higher during and after the heatwave compared to the pre-heatwave period, with this difference being more pronounced (+0.3 °C) in the first 2 h of sleep (p < 0.001). For every 0.1 °C rise in overnight core temperature, the total sleep time decreased by 14 min (pseudo-R2 = 0.26, p = 0.01). The elevated core temperatures occurred despite the participants exhibiting evident thermoregulatory behavior, as they covered 30% less body surface during the heatwave compared to pre- and post-heatwave periods (p < 0.001). During the heatwave, mean skin temperature at bedtime was 1.3 °C higher than pre-heatwave and 0.8 °C higher than post-heatwave periods (p < 0.001). No differences in other responses, including heart rate and vasomotion indicators, were observed. Aim: This study assessed the effects of hand‐bathing on sympathetic nervous activity exacerbated by psychological stress. Participants immersed one hand in warm water for 2 min while exposed to noise, and changes in blood flow and skin temperature of the non‐immersed hand were observed. Methods: Twenty‐nine healthy university students aged 20 years or older were randomly assigned to either the hand‐bathing group (n = 14) or the control group (n = 15). After a brief rest in a quiet environment, participants were exposed to noise for 6 min. Those in the hand‐bathing group submerged their left hand in a 40°C thermostatic bath for 2 min, starting 2 min into the noise exposure. The tympanic temperature, blood flow, and skin temperature of the non‐immersed hand were continuously measured, along with blood pressure and subjective evaluations before and after the noise exposure. Results: Both groups experienced a decrease in fingertip skin temperature at the start of the noise exposure, persisting longer in the control group. Conversely, the hand‐bathing group showed increased fingertip skin temperature after 150 s, significantly higher after the noise exposure than the control group (p =.04). Participants in the hand‐bathing group reported significantly increased overall body warmth, thermal comfort, and relaxation during hand‐bathing (p =.007, p =.01, p <.001). Conclusions: The 2‐min hand‐bathing intervention reversed the pronounced vasoconstrictive response induced by noise exposure and elicited heightened sensations of overall body warmth, thermal comfort, and relaxation. Dairy cows experiencing heat stress (HS) during the precalving portion of the transition period give birth to smaller calves and produce less milk and milk protein. Supplementation of rumen-protected methionine (RPM) has been shown to modulate protein, energy, and placenta metabolism, making it a potential candidate to ameliorate HS effects. We investigated the effects of supplementing RPM to transition cows under HS induced by electric heat blanket (EHB) on cow-calf performance. Six weeks before expected calving, 53 Holstein cows were housed in a tiestall barn and fed a control diet (CON, 2.2% Met of MP) or a CON diet supplemented with SmartamineM (MET, 2.6% Met of MP, Adisseo Inc., France). Four weeks precalving, all MET and half CON cows were fitted with an EHB. The other half of the CON cows were considered thermoneutral (TN), resulting in 3 treatments: CONTN (n = 19), CONHS (n = 17), and METHS (n = 17). Respiratory rate (RR), skin temperature (ST), and rectal temperature (RT) were measured thrice weekly and core body temperatures recorded biweekly. Postcalving BW and BCS were recorded weekly, and DMI was calculated and averaged weekly. Milk yield was recorded daily and milk components were analyzed every third DIM. Biweekly AA and weekly nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA), BHB, insulin, and glucose were measured from plasma. Calf birth weight and 24 h growth, thermoregulation, and hematology profile were measured and apparent efficiency of absorption (AEA) of immunoglobulins was calculated. Data were analyzed using the MIXED procedure of SAS with 2 preplanned orthogonal contrasts: CONTN versus the average of CONHS and METHS (C1) and CONHS versus METHS (C2). Relative to TN, EHB cows had increased RT during the postcalving weeks and increased RR and ST during the entire transition period. Body weight, BCS, DMI, and milk yield were not affected by the EHB or RPM. However, protein percentage and SNF were lower in CONHS, relative to METHS cows. At calving, METHS dams had higher glucose concentrations, relative to CONHS, and during the postcalving weeks, the EHB cows had lower NEFA concentrations than TN cows. Calf birthweight and AEA were reduced by HS, whereas RR was increased by HS. Calf withers height tended to be shorter and RT were lower in CONHS, compared with METHS heifers. Overall, RPM supplementation to transition cows reverts the negative effect of HS on blood glucose concentration at calving and milk protein percentage in the dams and increases wither height while decreasing RT in the calf. Pressure ulcer is considered a common and costly problem in the care of patients. Prevention and management of pressure ulcer are very important due to the high cost of treatment and the adverse consequences of pressure ulcer. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of implementing “aSSKINg” model in reducing pressure ulcer risk. This study used a before- and afterintervention quasi-experimental design. This study was performed on 60 patients who were not randomly selected and assigned in to control and study group. The data collection tool was a 3-part sheet (Braden scale, skin health assessment, and Pressure ulcer assessment). The incidence of pressure ulcer was 19 (60.0%) in the control group versus 9 (30.0%) in the study group with statistical significant differences. The most common site of pressure ulcer was coccyx (6 [31.6%]) in the control group and Heel (3 [33.3%]) in the study group. Total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is the most effective method of pain relief and increased functional status for end-stage knee arthritis. We aimed to assess in patients undergoing unilateral, primary TKA whether the temperature of the operated limb, compared to the nonoperative limb, remains elevated up to 1 year postoperatively. Using a prospective, longitudinal, observational study design, 1,094 patients were enrolled, and 889 patients completed a minimum of 4 out of 5 follow-up appointments. There were 864 patients who had a normal postoperative course, while 25 patients were deemed to have a superficial or deep infection. Skin temperatures were measured using an infrared thermometer on the operated and nonoperated knees preoperatively, at 2, 6, 12 weeks, and 1 year postoperatively. A subgroup analysis was performed on the 25 patients deemed to have a superficial or deep infection. There was a statistically significant increase in skin temperature in the operated versus nonoperated knee at every follow-up, with a P <.001. However, the effect size was small at the 1-year follow-up, with a mean difference in skin temperature of 0.3 °C. In the infected subgroup, there was a statistically significant difference in skin temperature at 2, 6, and 12 weeks, with a greater difference in skin temperature between the operated and nonoperated knees (4.05 versus 3.78 °C in the noninfected). However, there was little clinical difference (0.27 °C) at 2 weeks between infected and noninfected patients. This study could improve postoperative interactions between patients and surgeons. It is normal for skin temperature post-TKA to increase initially and improve over time, but it can take up to 1 year before there is little clinical difference. Because of the small difference in the rise of skin temperature between infected and noninfected patients, there is little indication that skin temperature is a reliable indicator of infection. Introduction: Due to the possible impact of the thermoregulatory process on sports performance, it is necessary to explore the existing relationships between kinetic, mechanical, and physiological variables. The objective of this study was to evaluate metabolic stress using thermography in the lower limb after the Spanish Championship 2023 walk. Method: A descriptive study was carried out on national and international race walkers before and after the 2023 Spanish Championships. The participants performed different tests within the same circuit. Five walkers completed the long-distance race of 35 km, four walkers completed the middle-distance race of 20 km and finally, two walkers completed the short-distance race of 10 km. Result: Statistically significant changes were observed in the lower limbs of the walkers after completing the test. We observed a decrease in skin temperature in all the anatomical regions analyzed, except for the back of the leg. More specifically, the decrease was in the hip (−1.92 °C: p = 0.004), quadriceps, hamstrings (−1.23 °C: p = 0.002), and tibia (−1.23 °C: p = 0.030). However, in the posterior region of the leg, a significant increase in temperature was observed (+0.50 °C: p = 0.011) following the competition. Discussion and Conclusions: The findings in this descriptive investigation support the notion that thermography may serve as a useful tool in the acute analysis of muscle functional activation and metabolic response in professional marching athletes. Moreover, the results confirmed that the change in skin temperature is the result of a variation in acute metabolic and functional activation in the lower extremities of race walkers during competition, with infrared thermography representing an instrument capable of detecting such a change in a rapid and non-invasive manner. A sore neck and back are very common among cyclists and can be caused by a change in spinal curvature and forward head posture during cycling. In addition, elite cyclists were found to have a decreased infrared thermography measurement during incremental exercise, and increased measurements after exhaustion. This study aims to assess the benefits of corrected cycling posture, evaluated by the OpenPose evaluation system and physical therapists, on exercise performance as determined by infrared thermography. We adopt a case–control study design. Thirty participants were divided into the group riding with a natural posture (control group) and the group riding with a corrected posture (experimental group). While both groups had comparable back and neck temperatures before and 10 min after finishing the exercise, the corrected posture group had a statistically lower temperature compared to the control one after riding for 30 min (33.58 ± 0.69°C vs. 35.18 ± 0.89°C; p < 0.001). This observed decrease in skin temperature during exercise implies better heat dissipation mechanisms and hence fatigue avoidance among cyclists with corrected posture. Larger studies with various static and dynamic cycling positions are required to gain better insights about the correlation between those positions, infrared thermography measurements, enhanced athletic performance and injury prevention. Background: In March 2024, our hospital confirmed a case of Mycobacterium fortuitum infection in the left thigh. In January 2024, the patient underwent buttock augmentation surgery at a private plastic surgery hospital. One month after the surgery, the patient sought medical attention at the plastic surgery hospital, due to pain in both legs while sitting. Upon examination, two subcutaneous masses were found in the left thigh, the tumors were painful to pressure, with obvious redness and swelling and elevated skin temperature; therefore, the patient was treated with intravenous infusion (cephalosporin drugs), but after one month of treatment, no significant improvement was observed. In order to seek additional diagnosis and treatment, the patient came to our hospital for treatment. Methods: Clinical treatment of the left lower limb included wound debridement, abscess incision and drainage, and photodynamic therapy with 5-aminolevulinic acid-mediated photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT). During surgery, subcutaneous tough tissue was taken for pathogen examination, including acid fast staining, bacterial culture, and identification. Additional auxiliary examinations: urine routine, blood routine, coagulation function, liver function, kidney function, blood lipids, and blood sugar. Results: Bacterial acid-fast staining: positive. Bacterial Culture and Identification (MALDI-TOF MS): Mycobacterium fortuitum. Clinical treatment plan: clarithromycin 500 mg po bid, moxifloxacin 400 mg po qd, abscess incision and drainage, ALA-PDT. After 24 days of treatment, the patient's condition was good, the surgical incision healed well, there was no bleeding, exudation, or bruising, no redness, swelling, or tenderness, and the skin temperature was normal. The patient improved and was discharged. Conclusions: This article reports a case of Mycobacterium fortuitum infection in the left thigh. The Mycobacterium fortuitum was quickly and accurately identified by MALDI-TOF MS, and reasonable treatment measures were adopted clinically. The patient improved and was discharged. Featured Application: This work demonstrates to healthcare professionals who treat patients with diabetic foot disease that the recommended physical activity must be adjusted to the physiological response parameters in the foot of each patient. One of the most significant complications of diabetes mellitus is diabetic sensory neuropathy. A reduction in pain perception increases the risk of diabetic patients developing foot ulcers and requiring amputation, which in turn results in impaired mobility and a diminished quality of life. Despite recent advances in our understanding of the aetiology of diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), there remains a significant gap in the clinical prevention and management of these ulcers. Given that inflammation represents the initial stage in the formation of skin wounds, the utilisation of infrared thermography for the early detection of inflammatory tissue, the analysis of plantar pressures and the monitoring of controlled physical activity (PA) may facilitate the close observation of plantar skin alterations that are susceptible to the development of DFUs, thereby enabling the implementation of timely interventions such as personalised PA for these patients. It is recommended that an integrated approach be adopted which encompasses the utilisation of all emerging technologies in order to enhance outcomes in the prevention and management of DFUs. The aim of this study is to examine the existing literature on the relationship between temperature, pressure and physical activity in the diabetic foot. To this end, a systematic review was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) format across the PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science databases, with no temporal restriction. A total of 14 studies were included in the review. The use of infrared thermography for the early detection of inflammatory tissue, plantar pressures and the monitoring of controlled PA can facilitate the close monitoring of changes that may pose a risk for the formation of UFDs and provide timely intervention, thereby personalising the PA of the diabetic patient. Passively elevating body temperature can trigger a potentially beneficial acute inflammatory response. However, heat therapy often causes discomfort and negative thermal perceptions, particularly in females who generally have lower heat tolerance than males. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of facial cooling on thermal comfort and interleukin-6 concentration in response to 60 minutes of dry heat exposure, and to investigate sex differences in physiological responses and perceptions. 22 healthy young adults (10 females, 12 males; age: 24.4 ± 3.3 years) completed three trials in randomized order using a dry sauna device: 1) Hyperthermia (71.1 ± 1.9°C; HEAT), 2) Hyperthermia with facial cooling via fans (71.1 ± 3.0°C; FAN), and 3) Normothermia (27.0 ± 0.9°C; CON). Blood samples to determine interleukin-6 (IL-6) plasma concentration were collected before and after exposure; basic affect and thermal comfort, rectal and skin temperature were assessed throughout the intervention. Rectal temperature following HEAT (38.0 ± 0.3°C) and FAN (37.8 ± 0.3°C) did not differ between males and females (p = 0.57). Females had higher forehead skin temperatures than males (p ≤ 0.019). Thermal comfort remained more positive in FAN compared to HEAT (p ≤ 0.002). Females felt more thermal discomfort than males in HEAT (p ≤ 0.03), but not in FAN (p = 0.28). The increase in IL-6 plasma concentration was similar between HEAT and FAN (p = 1.00), and higher than CON (p ≤ 0.02); there was no difference between males and females (p = 0.69). Here, an innovative creation is presented known as the BB‐Skin, a highly realistic bionic bimodal electronic skin, meticulously designed to mirror the thermal sensitivity and tactile perception found in human skin. This technology allows for precise object recognition and offers remote temperature sensing feedback. The BB‐Skin comprises temperature sensing, heating, and tribo‐electrode modules. Through the utilization of machine learning algorithms that measure the thermal conductivity and electronegativity of materials, a bimodal bionic robot object recognition system is developed, achieving an impressive accuracy rate exceeding 98.11%. The bimodal nature of the system, based on different types of electrical signals that operate independently, significantly enhances the reliability of the device. Moreover, harnessing the inherent capabilities of the BB‐Skin, a novel remote temperature sensing and feedback system is successfully implemented. In order to explore the effects of constant and altered workload sequences on mental fatigue in a thermoneutral environment, experiments and surveys were carried out in this study. n‐back tasks were used to design different workload sequences. Fifteen healthy right‐handed males were required to experience three different workload sequences for 30 min, respectively, including a constant workload (2‐back task) and 2 altered workload sequences that contained an elevating workload sequence (1‐2‐3‐back tasks) and a reducing workload sequence (3‐2‐1‐back tasks). The PANAS, VAS‐F, and NASA‐TLX scales were selected to investigate changes in the mood, the perceived fatigue, and the perceived workload. Meanwhile, the skin temperature during these three workload sequences was continuously collected. Results from the NASA‐TLX scale indicated that no significant difference in total workload was observed among all three workload sequences. Meanwhile, results from the VAS‐F scale showed that no significant changes in self‐reported mental fatigue were observed among these three workload sequences, which meant that mental fatigue was only related to the total workload. However, self‐reported "energy" from the VAS‐F scale did not reduce significantly during the reducing workload sequence, which meant that the reducing workload sequence could conserve more "energy" than that of the elevating and constant workload sequences. Furthermore, both positive and negative moods changed significantly under the constant workload sequence (2‐back task), but they did not show much changes under altered workloads, which meant that the altered workload sequence could attenuate the mood deterioration. What is more, the mental demand, physical demand, temporal demand, effort, and the total workload increased significantly after both the constant workload and elevating workload sequence, but no significant changes in all these six items of the NASA‐TLX scale were observed under the reducing workload sequence. Finally, the mean skin temperature under the constant workload sequence was lower than that under the altered workload sequences (p > 0.05), but significant changes in skin temperature at the left hand and neck were only observed between the constant and reducing workload sequences. In conclusion, constant and altered workload sequences contributed equally to the mental fatigue in a thermoneutral environment, but the differences in workload sequence produced some differences in mood, energy, and mental demand, which would affect the working performance. A fully self‐healing sensor patch consisting of an in‐plane integrated dual‐mode sensor and a pressure sensor with a vertically integrated electrocardiogram (ECG) electrode is reported. For a full‐device self‐healing, interlayer self‐bonding by using self‐healing oxime‐carbamate bond‐based polyurethane and room temperature self‐healing TUEG3 capped Au nanosheet (T‐Au NS) electrodes are devised. Via the use of a self‐healing sensor foam prepared by a coating of a self‐healing composite of polyurethane and polyaniline onto a microporous graphene foam, a self‐healing dual‐mode sensor is fabricated to detect the pressure and temperature simultaneously without interference. Furthermore, the interdigitated self‐healing electrode of T‐Au NS is applied to the pressure sensor to enhance the sensitivity up to 208.62 kPa−1 (<1 kPa), enabling the detection of small pulse signals even after multiple self‐healing events. By using the common self‐healing T‐Au NS electrode vertically integrated onto the sensor patch, ECG signals are also detected. With this sensor patch, skin temperature, wrist pulse, and ECG signals are successfully detected after a simultaneous full‐device self‐healing from complete bisection. This study demonstrates the facile fabrication of a high‐performance, fully self‐healing patch of multi‐sensors via the deliberate selection of sensor design and the associated functional materials, confirming its high potential applicability to highly durable health monitoring systems. Introduction: Cervicogenic headache (CEH) is a secondary headache characterized by chronic, unilateral headache. Ultrasound-guided injections of the greater occipital nerve (GON) and the third occipital nerve (TON) are effective in the treatment of CEH, as is meridian sinew tuina for the treatment of CEH, but the evidence of clinical efficacy of combining these two therapies is valid. Therefore, we have designed a randomized controlled trial with the aim of investigating the efficacy and safety of ultrasound localization meridian sinew tuina combined with GON and TON injections for the treatment of CEH. Methods and analysis: In this study, we enroll 60 patients experiencing CEH. The control group receives ultrasound-guided injections of GON and TON. The intervention group is treated with ultrasound localization meridian sinew tuina combined with the injection of GON and TON. Meridian sinew tuina is performed once a day for 30 min for 3 days. The primary observational index includes the Short-Form of McGill Pain Questionnaire (SF-MPQ). The Secondary outcomes include Cervical Range of Motion (ROM) and Medical Infrared Thermography (MIT). MIT is used to measure the change in skin temperature in the area of the patient's meridian sinew tuina treatment of GON and TON before and after the intervention. There are 5 time points assessed as baseline, day 3, day 15, day 30, and day 60. Discussion: This study proposes to combine ultrasound-guided injections of GON and TON for the treatment of CEH after identifying the treatment area of meridian sinew tuina under ultrasound localization. Personal radiative cooling fabrics are a promising zero‐energy solution for creating a cool and comfortable microclimate for outdoor crowds. Despite significant progress, achieving efficient radiative cooling under some extreme situations, such as thermal shock and intensive physical activity, remains a challenge. Herein, a bioinspired metafabric with a dual‐gradient Janus design is reported for personal radiative and evaporative cooling. The hierarchical fiber structure allows for an excellent solar reflectance of 99.4% and mid‐infrared emittance of 0.94, inducing a skin temperature drop of 17.8 °C under intense sunlight. Mesoporous silica nanoparticles fixed in the fibrous network can store evaporative cooling capacity by atmospheric moisture‐absorption in the mild and humid nighttime and release such cooling capacity by moisture‐desorption in the hot daytime, providing an additional skin temperature drop of 2.5 °C. Dual‐gradient Janus design endows the metafabric with an outstanding sweat‐wicking effect and high‐performance sweat evaporative cooling capacity. In the steady‐state evaporation tests, a maximum sweat consumption of only 0.5 ml h−1 can cool the skin to a comfortable temperature, preventing harmful excessive sweating. Additionally, the bioinspired metafabric also possesses favorable wearability and color expansibility. While foot immersion and neck cooling have been recommended for protecting heat-vulnerable groups, recent evidence does not support their efficacy for mitigating increases in physiological heat strain in older adults. However, their influence on self-reported environmental symptoms and mood-state remains unclear. Seventeen older adults (nine females, median [interquartile range] age: 72 [69–74]) completed three randomized heat exposures (6-h; 38°C, 35% relative humidity) with no cooling (control), foot immersion to mid-calf in 20°C water for the final 40-min of each hour (foot immersion), or foot immersion with a wet towel (20°C) around the neck (foot immersion with neck cooling). Core temperature, skin temperature, and heart rate areas under the curve (AUC) were assessed as indicators of cumulative physiological strain. Environmental symptom scores (68-item environmental symptoms questionnaire) and mood disturbance (40-item profile of mood states questionnaire) were evaluated at end-heating (adjusted for pre-exposure). Core temperature AUC was not different between conditions (p = 0.418). However, the skin temperature and heart rate AUCs were 11.8°C · h [95% confidence interval: 8.1, 15.5] and 12.5 bpm · h [0.1, 24.8] lower for foot immersion and 16.6°C · h [12.9, 20.3] and 19.6 bpm · h [7.2, 32.0] lower for foot immersion with neck cooling compared to control (p ≤ 0.032). Environmental symptom scores were 0.8-fold [0.6, 1.0] lower for both foot immersion with and without neck cooling, compared to control (both p = 0.036). Mood disturbance was not different between conditions (both p ≥ 0.275). Human body temperature is a critical physiological indicator, reflecting metabolism and temperature regulation. Biomimetic temperature sensors with high temporal and spatial resolution are highly desired to emulate human skin's temperature perception capabilities. Here, a selective filtration method is proposed to fabricate a jointless p‐n thermoelectric module, integrating p‐type and n‐type materials with minimal interfacial barriers. The structure enables rapid response, minimal signal variation, and a robust linear relationship between open circuit voltage and temperature difference, making it suitable as a biomimetic thermoreceptor for enhancing humanoid robots with intelligent sensing capabilities. A smart thermoelectric sensing system with a high temporal and spatial resolution is developed using with jointless p‐n module as the sensing element. In temporal thermal sensing, the sensing system can timely and effectively identify the heat source, with a fast response time of <0.1 s. In addition, in spatial thermal sensing, the system reliably detects thermal stimuli within discrete regions of each measuring area of <1 × 1 cm2. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of whole-body cryotherapy (WBC) on acute recovery after a single high-intensity training day. Twelve elite professional male rowers from the national aquatic training base. They were randomly divided into a WBC group (n = 6) and a control group (CON group, n = 6). They performed a high-intensity training program, with a single session immediately followed by WBC (-110°C, 3 min) or recovered naturally for 3 min (CON group). Rowing performance, skin temperature, heart rate, blood pressure, and blood lactate concentrations were recorded before training, immediately, 5 min, and 15 min after the intervention. Blood samples were collected early in the morning of the day of intervention and that of the following day. The results indicated that 1) the blood lactate concentrations after WBC were significantly lower than pre-training (p < 0.05); 2) the maximum power significantly decreased immediately after WBC compared to pre-training (p < 0.05); 3) a significant main effect of time was observed for average speed, which significantly decreased after WBC (p < 0.05); 4) a significant main effect of time for blood parameters was observed. Specifically, hematocrit, cortisol, and hemoglobin were significantly lower after WBC than pre-intervention, whereas testosterone/cortisol was significantly higher than pre-intervention (p < 0.05). The results of this study showed that a single session of WBC had a positive effect on accelerating the elimination of blood lactate after HIT, but did not significantly change rowing performance and physiological parameters. Seasonal heat acclimatization is known to enhance autonomic thermoeffector responses, whereas the behavioural response following seasonal heat acclimatization remains unknown. We investigated whether seasonal heat acclimatization would alter autonomic and behavioural thermoregulatory responses. Sixteen healthy participants (eight males and eight females) underwent two trials involving 50 min of lower‐leg passive heating (lower‐leg submersion in 42°C water) with (Fan trial) and without (No fan trial) the voluntary use of a fan in a moderate thermal environment (27°C, 50% relative humidity) across winter and summer months. In Fan trials, participants were allowed to use a fan to maintain thermal comfort, but this was not allowed in the No fan trials. Cool‐seeking behaviour was initiated at a lower change in rectal temperature [mean (SD): 0.21 (0.18)°C vs. 0.11 (0.13)°C, P = 0.0327] and change in mean skin temperature [2.34 (0.56)°C vs. 1.81 (0.32)°C, P < 0.0001], and cooling time was longer [16.46 (5.62) vs. 20.40 (4.87) min, P = 0.0224] in summer compared with winter. However, thermal perception was not modified by season during lower‐leg passive heating (all P > 0.0864). Furthermore, rectal temperature was higher in summer (P = 0.0433), whereas mean body temperature and skin temperature were not different (all P > 0.0631) between the two seasons in Fan trials. ABSTRACT Objective Methods Results Conclusion Hot flashes (HFs) are experienced as sudden sensations of heat. We hypothesized that brown adipose tissue (BAT) activation could increase the likelihood of HFs in winter. The aim of this study was to test whether women with more BAT activity were more likely to experience self‐reported or biometrically measured HFs.Women aged 45–55 years (n = 270) participated in face‐to‐face interviews and anthropometric and ambulatory measures. Level of BAT activity was estimated from the difference in supraclavicular skin temperature measured by infrared thermography before and after cooling. Logistic regressions were applied to examine whether bothersome HFs (yes/no) during the past 2 weeks were associated with BAT activity, adjusting for menopausal status, childhood exposure to cold, waist/hip ratio, and self‐reported health. Linear regressions were used to examine the frequency of self‐reported and biometrically measured HFs during the study period and BAT activity, adjusting for potential confounders.Menopausal status, childhood exposure to cold, waist‐to‐hip ratio (WHR), and self‐reported health were associated with both BAT activity and HFs. After adjusting for potential confounders, an increase in BAT activity almost tripled the likelihood of bothersome HFs (OR 2.84, 95% CI 1.26–6.43). In linear regressions, BAT activity was not associated with frequency of subjective or objective HFs during the study period, but childhood exposure to cold was associated with subjective HF report (β = 0.163, p = 0.010).To our knowledge, this is the first study of BAT activation and HFs. The current investigation aimed to comprehend the inflammatory and related immune responses in intrauterine calves subjected to heat stress (HS) during late gestation. For this purpose, 48 Sahiwal cows in late gestation were chosen and categorized into four equal groups: naturally heat stressed (NHS), cooling-treated (CLT), spring, and winter, and likewise their neonate calves born in summer (IUHS - intrauterine heat stressed and IUCL – intrauterine cooled), spring, and winter seasons. Environmental parameters were recorded, and the temperature-humidity index (THI) was calculated daily throughout the study period. The average THI values ranged between 84.18 (summer-NHS), 73.88 (summer-CLT), 78.92 (spring), and 64.91 (winter). NHS and spring groups exhibited thermal stress based on THI (> 76.00). Various treatments significantly (P < 0.01) impacted parameters like rectal temperature (RT), respiratory rate (RR), pulse rate (PR), and skin temperature (ST) in Sahiwal cows and their calves during the study, except for heart rate (HR). Blood samples collected during different seasons and from cows housed in a climatic chamber were used to extract plasma. Plasma cortisol, interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) levels were notably higher (P < 0.05) in the NHS compared to the CLT group. Conversely, total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and immunoglobulin G (IgG) levels were higher (P < 0.05) in the CLT and winter groups. IUHS calves exhibited significantly (P < 0.05) lower overall mean plasma TAC and IgG levels but higher inflammatory and oxidative biomarkers, such as IL-6, TNF-α, and TBARS. Additionally, significant impacts on body weight were observed for factors such as interval (P < 0.01) and the interaction between treatment and interval (P < 0.05), exhibiting consistently lower body weight in IUHS calves throughout the study period. These findings suggest that late gestation heat stress may lead to physiological alterations in future calves. Strategies aimed at mitigating heat stress during late gestation should be considered not only for the productivity and well-being of the pregnant dam but also for the development and future performance of the calf. Wound temperature is one of the wound biomarkers representing the wound healing progress. The diabetic wound is associated with a prolonged inflammation phase marked by an increasing wound temperature and erythematous wound. Purple sweet potato extract (PSP), an anthocyanin-rich plant, improved wound healing in both diabetic and non-diabetic wounds in animal studies. This study aims to know the effect of purple sweet potato ethanol extract on wound temperature and erythema in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Rats were divided into four groups: normal rats + gel placebo; diabetic rats + gel placebo; diabetic rats + PSP 10%; and diabetic rats + PSP 15%. Diabetes mellitus was induced by streptozotocin injection. After diabetic confirmation, the back of the rats was excised and the gel was administered daily for 14 days. The wound temperature was measured at the wound surface using infrared thermography on days 0, 3, 7, and 14. The wounds were photographed and erythema analysis was conducted using Corel Photo paint®. Diabetic wounds exhibited higher surface temperature compared with the normal wound (37.08°C ± 0.29 vs 35.13°C ± 0.46) on day 14 of examination and topical application the purple sweet potato ethanol extract gel 10% and 15% markedly decreased the wound temperature at day 7 and 14 compared with the diabetes wound (p<0.0001). Wound erythema was significantly reduced in the PSP 10% and 15% diabetic wound treatment groups on day 14 (p<0.05). Sleep quality (SQ) is a crucial aspect of overall health. Poor sleep quality may cause cognitive impairment, mood disturbances, and an increased risk of chronic diseases. Therefore, assessing sleep quality helps identify individuals at risk and develop effective interventions. SQ has been demonstrated to affect heart rate variability (HRV) and skin temperature even during wakefulness. In this perspective, using wearables and contactless technologies to continuously monitor HR and skin temperature is highly suited for assessing objective SQ. However, studies modeling the relationship linking HRV and skin temperature metrics evaluated during wakefulness to predict SQ are lacking. This study aims to develop machine learning models based on HRV and skin temperature that estimate SQ as assessed by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). HRV was measured with a wearable sensor, and facial skin temperature was measured by infrared thermal imaging. Classification models based on unimodal and multimodal HRV and skin temperature were developed. A Support Vector Machine applied to multimodal HRV and skin temperature delivered the best classification accuracy, 83.4%. This study can pave the way for the employment of wearable and contactless technologies to monitor SQ for ergonomic applications. The proposed method significantly advances the field by achieving a higher classification accuracy than existing state-of-the-art methods. Our multimodal approach leverages the synergistic effects of HRV and skin temperature metrics, thus providing a more comprehensive assessment of SQ. Quantitative performance indicators, such as the 83.4% classification accuracy, underscore the robustness and potential of our method in accurately predicting sleep quality using non-intrusive measurements taken during wakefulness. Elastomeric interphases (liners) protect the residual limb and distribute mass bearing to the prosthetic socket. However, discomfort due to excessive sweat and heat in the residual limb is the most relevant factor that negatively affects the quality of life in transfemoral prosthetics users. Additionally, a warm and humid environment and the non-uniform mass distribution can compromise blood flow in the residual limb; these factors favor the development of skin lesions, the dropout rate of prosthetic use, and subsequent amputations. Previous mathematical models that predict skin temperature distribution based on Pennes' model and explain the Fourier and non-Fourier thermic response are available. However, these models require knowledge of difficult parameters to obtain in conditions that lead to amputation. Therefore, the current study aims to propose an experimentally based method to design a personalized liner with areas of different diffusivity rates by using perforations according to thermal needs, preserving the mechanical properties of the liner. After thermal and mechanical characterization, we elaborated a personalized plane liner according to the thermal expression of the anterior thigh using infrared analysis. Recent methods using thermistors as an early detection of skin cancer require the higher resolution of 5 mK. Previously, the authors developed a vacuum insulated temperature device that calibrates the resistance temperature characteristics of thermistors, so that it improves the temperature resolution and accuracy of skin cancer diagnosis. In this study, the operational methods of the calibration system were compared for improving further accuracy using the temperature calibration device and the oil tank calibration device. Despite optimal cognitive function being essential for performance, there is a lack of research on the effectiveness of combined cooling interventions on team sport athlete's cognitive function when exercising in the heat. In a randomised, crossover design, 12 unacclimatised men (age: 22.3 ± 3.0 years, body mass: 73.4 ± 5.1 kg, height: 181.0 ± 5.3 cm and V˙O2 $\dot{\mathrm{V}}{\mathrm{O}}_{2}$ max: 51.2 ± 9.5 mL/kg/min) participated in a control (CON) and combined cooling trial (ice slurry and ice collar; COOL). A battery of cognitive tests were completed prior to, during (at half‐time) and following a 90‐min intermittent running protocol in the heat (33°C, 50% relative humidity (RH)). Perceptual and physiological measures were taken throughout the protocol. In CON, response times were quicker on the Stroop task complex level (p = 0.002) and the visual search test complex level at full‐time (p = 0.014) compared to COOL. During COOL, response times were quicker at half‐time on the Stroop task complex level (p = 0.024) compared to CON. Lower rectal temperatures were seen during COOL (CON: 37.44 ± 0.65°C and COOL: 37.28 ± 0.68°C) as well as lower skin, neck and forehead temperatures (main effect of trial, all p < 0.05). Lower ratings of thermal sensation and perceived exertion and enhanced thermal comfort were recorded during COOL (main effect of trial, all p < 0.05). Whilst minimal differences in cognitive function were found when using the combined cooling intervention, the findings highlight a practical and effective strategy to improving many physiological and perceptual responses to intermittent exercise in the heat. The temperature of melt blowing (MB) and melt spun fibers is frequently measured using infrared thermography (IRT). However, measurements are affected by the size and curvature of the fiber and by reflected radiation from the nozzle. A procedure was developed to obtain accurate measurements of fiber temperature, which corrects fiber size, fiber curvature, and reflected radiation. This procedure is more general than the ones used so far to correct fiber temperature because it corrects the three abovementioned factors using a single correction formula, this being the first time that fiber temperature correction for reflected radiation has been accounted for. It is also more accurate because it uses the local fiber diameter to correct fiber curvature, instead of mean fiber diameter. The procedure was used to measure the temperature of MB adhesive fibers produced by two multi-hole nozzle designs, the results indicating that, in melt blowing applications, the distortion caused by fiber curvature and reflected radiation on the measurement proves to be far more significant than that caused by fiber size, while correction generally leads to an increase in fiber temperature. Considerations as to the effect of different parameters on temperature correction, as well as the quality of thermographic images, are also provided throughout the text.
