High-fat diet (HFD)-induced obesity has been involved in the development of diabetic nephropathy (DN). Tenovin-1, a potent selective SIRT1/2 inhibitor, regulates various target proteins. The present study evaluated the protective effect of Tenovin-1 against renal fibrosis in HFD-induced Zucker diabetic fatty (ZDF) rats. Rats were fed a normal chow diet or HFD. Tenovin-1 (45 mg/kg) administered to HFD-fed rats decreased inflammatory cytokine expression in the serum of the rats. The antioxidant status and oxidative damage to lipids or DNA were significantly restored by Tenovin-1. Additionally, Tenovin-1 reduced the levels of blood urea nitrogen (BUN), serum creatinine (sCr), microalbumin, and urinary protein-based biomarkers in the urine of HFD-fed rats. The abnormal architecture of the kidney and pancreas was restored by Tenovin-1 administration. Tenovin-1 also reduced apoptosis in the kidneys of the HFD-fed rats and HG-treated NRK-52E cells. It significantly lowered the levels of ECM proteins in the kidneys of HFD-fed rats and HG-treated NRK-52E cells. Additionally, Tenovin-1 markedly reduced claudin-1, SIRT1, and SIRT2, but increased SIRT3 and SIRT4 in HFD-fed rats and NRK-52E cells treated with HG. Furthermore, Tenovin-1 altered epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), platelet-derived growth factor receptor-β (PDGFR-β), and signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 (STAT3) levels in the kidneys of HFD-fed rats. Conclusively, this study shows that Tenovin-1 can be a potential candidate drug for the treatment of HFD-induced renal fibrosis, in vivo and in vitro models.

OBJECTIVES This study compared the current smoking prevalence among adults with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection to that of the general Korean population and analyzed changes in smoking prevalence and cessation rates from 2009 to 2020. METHODS The study included a total of 10,980 adults with HIV infection who underwent a health screening examination (National Health Insurance Service-National Health Information Database; NHIS-NHID), 1,230 individuals with HIV infection who participated in the Korea HIV/AIDS Cohort (KoCosHIV), and 76,783 participants from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). We estimated the current smoking prevalence and the quit ratio, defined as the ratio of former smokers to ever-smokers. RESULTS In the NHIS-NHID and KoCosHIV studies, the prevalence of current and former smoking among adults with HIV was 44.2% (95% confidence interval [CI], 43.2 to 45.1) and 15.6% (95% CI, 14.9 to 16.3), and 47.7% (95% CI, 43.7 to 51.8) and 16.9% (95% CI, 11.8 to 22.0), respectively. In the KNHANES, these rates were 22.5% and 18.1%, respectively. The standardized prevalence ratio of current smoking among adults with HIV was 1.76 in the NHIS-NHID and 1.97 in the KoCosHIV. Furthermore, the likelihood of quitting smoking was lower among adults with HIV than in the general population (NHIS-NHID: 26.1%; 95% CI, 25.0 to 27.1; KoCosHIV: 26.2%; 95% CI, 20.2 to 32.1; KNHANES: 44.6%; 95% CI, 44.5 to 44.6). Among HIV-positive adults, there was a 1.53% decline in the current smoking rate and a 2.86% increase in the quit ratio. CONCLUSIONS Adults with HIV were more likely to smoke and less likely to quit smoking than the general adult population. Tobacco screening and cessation strategies should specifically target this population.

Yeast formulations such as dry yeast are essential for supplying microbial starters to the alcoholic beverage industry. In Korea, the expensive freeze-drying method is used to manufacture brewer’s dry yeast, and therefore an economical process such as fluidized bed drying is needed. In the dry yeast manufacturing process, the medium and drying conditions are key factors that determine its quality and manufacturing cost. In this study, we aimed to optimize the medium composition and fluidized bed drying conditions for the efficient production of dry yeast. Muscovado and corn steep liquor were used as the carbon and nitrogen sources, respectively, and their optimal concentrations were identified using response surface methodology for efficient cultivation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae ReY4-7 isolated from nuruk. Central composite design analysis revealed that the optimal medium composition was 146.12 g/L muscovado and 58.68 g/L corn steep liquor. A dry cell weight of 36 g/L was achieved during 24 h of batch fermentation in a 30-L bioreactor containing this medium. Analysis of protective agents against fluidized bed drying revealed Span 80 as the strongest protective agent for S. cerevisiae ReY4-7. Response surface methodology revealed 50 °C and 41.45 min as the optimal fluidized bed drying conditions, under which the viable cell count reached 10.28 log CFU/g, comparable to that of the commercial dry yeast products. Overall, optimization of the medium and drying conditions significantly improved the final cell concentration in the cultivation process and the viable cell count in the drying process of dry yeast.

Abstract This study aimed to characterize the molecular features and virulence profiles of carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) isolates. Clinical CRAB isolates were obtained from blood cultures of adult patients with CRAB bacteremia, collected between July 2015 and July 2021 at a Korean hospital. Real-time polymerase chain reaction was used to detect 13 virulence genes, genotyping was conducted via multilocus sequence typing (MLST), and a Tenebrio molitor infection model was selected for survival analysis. Herein, 170 patients, from whom CRAB isolates were collected, showed the in-hospital mortality rate of 57.6%. All 170 clinical CRAB isolates harbored bla OXA-23 and bla OXA-51. MLST genotyping identified 11 CRAB sequence types (STs), of which ST191 was predominant (25.7%). Virulence genes were distributed as follows: basD, 58.9%; espA, 15.9%; bap, 92.4%; and ompA, 77.1%. In the T. molitor model, ST195 showed a significantly higher mortality rate (73.3% vs. 66.7%, p = 0.015) than the other groups. Our findings provide insights into the microbiological features of CRAB blood isolates associated with high mortality. We suggest a potential framework for using a T. molitor infection model to characterize CRAB virulence. Further research is warranted to elucidate the mechanisms by which virulence improves clinical outcomes.

This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of neutralizing monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) with usual care in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Randomized controlled trials comparing the efficacy and safety of neutralizing mAb treatment in patients with COVID-19 were identified using electronic database searches through March 10, 2023. This systematic review was conducted following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Overall, 13 trials (23 articles) involving 25,646 patients were included in this systematic review. Compared with usual care, neutralizing mAbs were associated with significantly reduced all-cause mortality in outpatients with COVID-19 (pooled risk ratios [RR], 0.41; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.20–0.83; 12 studies), but not in inpatients. In the subgroup analysis, only outpatients infected prior to the emergence of Delta variant or those with mAb–VOC match had significantly reduced mortality, while no significant benefit was observed in patients infected with Delta and post–Delta variants or mAb–VOC mismatch. Moreover, the rate of hospitalization and number of hospital visits had significantly reduced only in outpatients infected prior to the emergence of the Delta variant and those with mAb–VOC match. Our systematic review used majority of the high-certainty evidence. Our study found neutralizing mAbs were beneficial for outpatients infected prior to Delta variant or mAb–VOC match. In the face of the continuous emergence of new COVID-19 variants, additional clinical data are needed to determine whether neutralizing mAb treatment will be effective for the newly emerging variants.

Purpose This study aims to verify whether the Reflective Practice Questionnaire (RPQ) developed by Priddis and Rogers is valid in the Korean context to identify the level of reflection of medical students in clinical practice. Methods A total of 202 third- and fourth-year medical students from seven universities participated in the study. After receiving approval for use from the authors, a survey was conducted on the students through an adaptation process. The original scale consists of 10 factors with 40 items. The Self-efficacy in Clinical Performance Scale (SECP), Korean Self-reflection and Insight Scale (K-SRIS), and Reflection-in-Learning Scale (RinLS) were used to validate the scale. Exploratory factor, confirmatory factor, correlation, and reliability analyses were used for data analysis. Background/Aims This study aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics and outcomes of fluorescent antinuclear antibody (FANA)-positive patients admitted for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and identify FANA as a prognostic factor of mortality. Methods This retrospective study was conducted at a university-affiliated hospital with 1,048 beds from September 2020 to March 2022. The participants were consecutive patients who required oxygenation through a high-flow nasal cannula, non-invasive or mechanical ventilation, or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, and conducted the FANA test within 48 hours of admission. Results A total of 132 patients with severe COVID-19 were included in this study, of which 77 (58.3%) had FANA-positive findings (≥ 1:80). FANA-positive patients were older and had higher inflammatory markers and 28-day mortality than FANA-negative patients. In the multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression analysis, FANA-positive findings (hazard ratio [HR], 2.65; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.04–6.74), age (per 1-year; HR, 1.05; 95% CI, 1.01–1.10), underlying pulmonary disease (HR, 3.16; 95% CI, 0.97–10.26), underlying hypertension (HR, 2.97; 95% CI, 1.28–6.87), and blood urea nitrogen > 20 mg/dL (HR, 3.72; 95% CI, 1.09–12.64) were independent predictors of 28-day mortality. Remdesivir (HR, 0.34; 95% CI, 0.15–0.74) was found to be an independent predictor that reduced mortality. Conclusions Our findings revealed an autoimmune phenomenon in patients with severe COVID-19, which provides an ancillary rationale for strategies to optimize immunosuppressive therapy. In particular, this study suggests the potential of FANA to predict the outcomes of COVID-19.

This study investigated the efficacy and safety of interleukin-6 (IL-6) receptor antagonists with standard care treatment in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The randomized controlled trials were identified through systematic searches of electronic databases through February 10, 2022. In total, 17 trials comprising 8,614 patients were included. Compared with exclusive standard care or placebo, IL-6 receptor antagonists with standard of care treatment were associated with a significantly reduced all-cause mortality at 28 days (pooled risk ratios [RR], 0.88; 95% confidence interval (CI), 0.82–0.95; 17 studies) and progression to invasive mechanical ventilation (RR, 0.79; 95% CI, 0.71–0.88; nine studies). Particularly, the subgroup of patients with moderate-to-severe COVID-19 showed a significant mortality benefit (RR, 0.89; 95% CI, 0.81–0.96; four studies) and a reduced risk for mechanical ventilation (RR, 0.80; 95% CI, 0.70–0.91; three studies) with tocilizumab treatment. The frequency of serious adverse events was lower in the tocilizumab treatment group than in the standard of care treatment group (RR, 0.83; 95% CI, 0.71–0.97; 11 studies), with no significant difference in the sarilumab treatment group (RR, 1.12; 95% CI, 0.89–1.40; four studies). Our meta-analysis demonstrated that tocilizumab treatment showed promising results in reducing 28-day mortality and progression to mechanical ventilation in patients with moderate-to-severe COVID-19, without the burden of serious adverse events.Trial registration: PROSPERO: registration number CRD42021294120.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of non-coding RNAs that act as regulators of disease. An evolutionary approach to the disease could reveal factors such as diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis prediction. The expression patterns of transposable element (TEs)-derived miRNAs could help elucidate diseases, and their evolutionary patterns are also valuable. The 34 miRNAs were compared in terms of stage survival and tumor status in 33 carcinomas from TCGA. Expression levels were compared using a t -test and presented as differentially expressed miRNAs (DEMs). For DEMs showing statistically specific expression patterns for 3 conditions (normal and cancer, early and advanced stage, and survival), interactions with related genes in 10 species, including humans, were compared. The enrichment term was discovered for the gene-miRNA interactions. In 18 out of the 33 carcinomas, at least one miRNA was retrieved with P .05. A total of 128 DEMs for the 9 miRNAs were identified. Based on the TargetScan database, interactions between miRNAs and genes in 10 species, including humans, were confirmed. The evolutionarily conserved miR-130a was observed in all 10 species, whereas miR-151a was only observed in humans. GO terms of related genes were selected for the miRNAs commonly found in each species. Evolutionary analysis of TE-derived disease-associated miRNAs was performed, and the evolutionarily conserved miR-130a-related carcinomas included renal and thyroid cancers. Human and rhesus monkey-specific miR-625 is associated with various carcinomas.

Abstract The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether monitoring the changes of skin blood flow may be effective in assessing blood perfusion during endoscopic lumbar sympathectomy (ELS) in patients with plantar hyperhidrosis. In this study, a total of 30 patients who underwent surgical treatment for plantar hyperhidrosis at the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery in Yonsei University Gangnam Severance Hospital, Seoul, Korea, between July 2020 and December 2020, were retrospectively analyzed. Sympathetic denervation was performed on the third lumbar ganglion, and intraoperative laser doppler flowmetry (LDF) was used to detect the lumbar sympathetic chain accurately. We observed an abrupt increase of peripheral blood flow after sympathetic denervation, and the median percent changes of perfusion unit were 173.27 (inter-quartile range, IQR 195.48) and 392.98 (IQR 597.27) for the left and right sympathectomies, respectively. This study demonstrated the efficacy of monitoring skin blood flow via LDF during ELS. This result suggests that exact detection of blood flow using LDF is essential for improving the accuracy of ELS by checking the perfusion site on the sole in patients with plantar hyperhidrosis.

Objectives This study examined the effect of out-of-pocket (OOP) payment reduction on the potential utilization of low-value magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) across income groups. Methods We conducted an experimental vignette survey using a proportional quota-based sample of individuals in Korea (n=1229). In two hypothetical vignettes, participants were asked whether they would be willing to use MRI if they had uncomplicated headache and non-specific low back pain, each before and after OOP payment reduction. To account for the possible role of physician inducement, half of the participants were initially presented with vignettes that included a physician recommendation for low-value care. The predicted probability, slope index of inequality (SII), and relative index of inequality (RII) were calculated using logistic regression. Results Before OOP payment reduction, the lowest income quintile was least likely to use low-value MRI regardless of physician inducement (36.7–49.6% for low back pain; 30.5–39.3% for headache). After OOP payment reduction, almost all individuals in each income quintile were willing to use low-value MRI (89.8–98.0% for low back pain; 78.1–90.3% for headache). Absolute and relative inequalities concerning potential low-value MRI utilization decreased after OOP payments were reduced, even without physician inducement (SII: from 8.15 to 5.37%, RII: from 1.20 to 1.06 for low back pain; SII: from 6.99 to 0.83%, RII: from 1.20 to 1.01 for headache). Conclusions OOP payment reduction for MRI has the potential to increase low-value care utilization among all income groups while decreasing inequality in low-value care utilization.

Objective: To examine the status of early clinical exposure (ECE) programs in Korean medical schools and to determine the educational needs for ECE in undergraduate medical education. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 30 medical education experts and 65 professors from 30 medical schools across Korea were surveyed about the status of ECE programs in medical schools and the educational needs for ECE. This survey was conducted between January and March 2024 using Google Forms, and the collected data were analyzed using frequency analysis. Results: Out of the 30 participating medical schools, 70% had implemented ECE programs. In most schools, ECE programs were required courses and offered from the first year of pre-medical phase to the second year of medical phase. Among 95 respondents, 88.4% recognized the necessity of ECE programs. Most respondents considered "understanding the role of a doctor" an essential objective (70 out of 95, 73.7%) and outcome (73 out of 95, 76.8%) of ECE programs. Most respondents considered "observation/field trips" and "reflection journal" as essential teaching methods (69 out of 95, 72.6%) and assessment methods (68 out of 95, 71.6%) in ECE programs, respectively. Furthermore, most respondents (68 out of 95, 71.6%) considered the "lack of educational support personnel" a concern in implementing ECE programs in medical schools. Conclusions: This study sheds light on the status of ECE programs in Korean medical schools. Additionally, its results regarding the educational needs for ECE have implications for the future implementation of ECE programs in Korean medical schools. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to evaluate the usefulness of amplicon-based real-time metagenomic sequencing applied to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) for identifying the causative agents of bacterial meningitis. We conducted a 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing using a nanopore-based platform, alongside routine polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing or bacterial culture, to compare its clinical performance in pathogen detection on CSF samples. Among 17 patients, nanopore-based sequencing, multiplex PCR, and bacterial culture detected potential bacterial pathogens in 47.1%, 0%, and 47.1% samples, respectively. Nanopore-based sequencing demonstrated a sensitivity of 50.0%, specificity of 55.6%, positive predictive value of 50.0%, negative predictive value of 55.6%, and overall accuracy of 47.1%, compared to the gold standard method for bacterial culture. In 44.4% (4/9) of culture-negative cases, nanopore-based sequencing detected potentially causative pathogens, whereas four (23.5%) patients were positive only in culture. Using nanopore-based sequencing alongside bacterial culture increased the positivity rate from 47.1 to 70.6%. However, these values may be overestimated due to challenges in distinguishing significant pathogens from background noise. Meanwhile, the bioinformatics module in EPI2ME reduced the turn-around time to 10 min. Nanopore-based metagenomic sequencing is expected to serve as a complementary tool for pathogen detection in CSF samples by facilitating rapid and accurate diagnosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract We investigated the in vitro activity of various antimicrobial combinations against carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) isolates. The in vitro activity of six two-drug combinations against CRAB isolates collected from the blood samples of patients with bloodstream infection was evaluated using the checkerboard method and time-kill assay [0.5 ×, 1 ×, and 2 × minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC)] to identify potential synergistic and bactericidal two-drug combinations against CRAB isolates. The effects of meropenem, colistin, tigecycline, rifampin, and ceftolozane/tazobactam combinations were investigated. All 10 CRAB isolates in our study produced the OXA-58-type and OXA-23-type carbapenem-hydrolyzing oxacillinases. The colistin-ceftolozane/tazobactam combination showed synergistic effects in both the time-kill assay (using an antibiotic concentration of 1 × MIC) and the checkerboard method. It also showed bactericidal effects in the time-kill assay. For all 10 CRAB isolates, time-kill curves showed synergistic bactericidal activity of the colistin-ceftolozane/tazobactam combination at 0.5 × MIC. Overall, there was substantial discordance of synergistic activity between the checkerboard microdilution and time-kill assays (with a concordance of 31.7%). Our study demonstrated that two-drug combinations of colistin and ceftolozane/tazobactam could be useful treatment alternatives for CRAB infections. The effects of these antibiotic combinations should be evaluated using in vivo experimental models.

BackgroundAn artificial intelligence (AI) model using chest radiography (CXR) may provide good performance in making prognoses for COVID-19. ObjectiveWe aimed to develop and validate a prediction model using CXR based on an AI model and clinical variables to predict clinical outcomes in patients with COVID-19. MethodsThis retrospective longitudinal study included patients hospitalized for COVID-19 at multiple COVID-19 medical centers between February 2020 and October 2020. Patients at Boramae Medical Center were randomly classified into training, validation, and internal testing sets (at a ratio of 8:1:1, respectively). An AI model using initial CXR images as input, a logistic regression model using clinical information, and a combined model using the output of the AI model (as CXR score) and clinical information were developed and trained to predict hospital length of stay (LOS) ≤2 weeks, need for oxygen supplementation, and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The models were externally validated in the Korean Imaging Cohort of COVID-19 data set for discrimination and calibration. ResultsThe AI model using CXR and the logistic regression model using clinical variables were suboptimal to predict hospital LOS ≤2 weeks or the need for oxygen supplementation but performed acceptably in the prediction of ARDS (AI model area under the curve [AUC] 0.782, 95% CI 0.720-0.845; logistic regression model AUC 0.878, 95% CI 0.838-0.919). The combined model performed better in predicting the need for oxygen supplementation (AUC 0.704, 95% CI 0.646-0.762) and ARDS (AUC 0.890, 95% CI 0.853-0.928) compared to the CXR score alone. Both the AI and combined models showed good calibration for predicting ARDS (P=.079 and P=.859). ConclusionsThe combined prediction model, comprising the CXR score and clinical information, was externally validated as having acceptable performance in predicting severe illness and excellent performance in predicting ARDS in patients with COVID-19.

BackgroundThe emergence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variants and the persistence of the pandemic, even with mass coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination, have raised questions about the durability of immunity and extent of cross-reactive immunity after vaccination. This study aimed to characterize the humoral and cellular immune response to the mRNA-1273 vaccine using a prospective longitudinal cohort.MethodsWe recruited 177 young SARS-CoV-2 infection-naive adults. Two doses of mRNA-1273 vaccine were administered at 28-day intervals, and blood samples were collected at five time points: pre-vaccination (T0), 4 weeks after the first (T1) and second dose (T2), and 3 months (T3) and 6 months (T4) after the first dose. Anti-SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (anti-S) IgG antibody, neutralizing antibody, and T-cell immune responses were evaluated.ResultsThe two-dose mRNA-1273 vaccination induced robust anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibody responses, which remained higher than the titers at T1 until T4. A higher peak anti-S antibody titer at T2 was associated with better cross-reactive immunity against Delta and Omicron variants and long-lasting (anti-S IgG and neutralizing antibody) humoral immunity up to T4. The overall T-cell immune response was not correlated with peak antibody titers (T-lymphocyte subpopulation analysis was not performed).ConclusionThis study showed that an early strong antibody response is predictive of longer humoral immunity and better cross-reactive neutralizing immunity against Delta and Omicron variants.

Abstract Background Critically ill patients in intensive care units (ICUs) often acquire opportunistic infections or are colonized by vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE), which limits therapeutic options and results in high case-fatality rates. In clinical practice, the beneficial effects of universal chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) bathing on the control of VRE remain unclear. This study aimed to investigate whether 2% CHG daily bathing reduced the acquisition of VRE in the setting of a medical ICU (MICU) with VRE endemicity. Methods This quasi-experimental intervention study was conducted in a 23-bed MICU of a tertiary care hospital in Korea from September 2016 to December 2017. In a prospective, interrupted time-series analysis (ITS) with a 6-month CHG bathing intervention, we compared the acquisition and incidence of VRE and the incidence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) between the pre-intervention and intervention periods. The primary and secondary outcomes were a change in the acquisition of VRE and incidence of VRE, MRSA, or CRAB between the two periods, respectively. Results All the adult patients admitted to the MICU were enrolled in the pre-intervention (n = 259) and intervention (n = 242). The overall CHG daily bathing compliance rate was 72.5%. In the ITS, there was a significant intervention effect with a 58% decrease in VRE acquisition (95% CI 7.1–82.1%, p = 0.038) following the intervention. However, there was no significant intervention effects on the incidence trend of VRE, MRSA, and CRAB determined by clinical culture between the pre-intervention and intervention periods. Conclusion In this real-world study, we concluded that daily bathing with CHG may be an effective measure to reduce VRE cross-transmission among patients in MICU with a high VRE endemicity.

Objectives Previous studies have shown that participation in social activities (SA) can prevent cognitive decline (CD) and that living arrangements (LA) can affect cognitive function. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of SA and LA on CD, as well as their interactions, using longitudinal data. Methods Data were used from the 2006-2018 Korean Longitudinal Study for Aging, which followed 10 254 adults older than 45 years over a 12-year period. CD was defined as a ≥4-point score decrease in the Mini-Mental Status Exam over 2 years. We developed an extended Cox proportional hazards model for time-dependent covariates to estimate the hazard ratio (HR) of CD in 4 groups: (1) socially active and living with others, (2) socially active and living alone, (3) socially inactive and living with others (SILO), and (4) socially inactive and living alone (SILA). The model was stratified by gender and adjusted for important confounders. Results The HR of CD was significantly higher in the SILO group in men (HR,1.36; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.08 to 1.78) and in the SILA group in women (HR, 1.72; 95% CI, 1.08 to 2.75). However, the interaction term for gender was not significant. Conclusions Among socially inactive elderly adults, the HR of CD was elevated in men who lived with others and in women who lived alone, although the interaction term for gender was not significant. Socially inactive men who live with others and socially inactive women who live alone are particularly encouraged to participate in SA to prevent CD.
