However, survivors found it difficult to build their lives in Bangladesh upon return. The specific challenges encountered by Bangladeshi trafficking survivors remain underexplored, particularly regarding individual, socio-cultural, and systematic factors. We aim to investigate the obstacles survivors encounter during social reintegration by examining survivors’ experiences, and subjective perspectives of experts and social workers who provide life-skill and vocational training to survivors.This qualitative study intends to gather in-depth insights by conducting 40 semi-structured interviews with the key stakeholders, including survivors, experts, and service providers.After thematically analyzing the qualitative data, the study denotes that survivors encountered several challenges to social reintegration, including social stigmatization, victim blaming, family rejection, limited access to essential support services, economic hardship, health issues, and difficulties in relationships. Notably, social reintegration is more challenging for female survivors than for male survivors in Bangladesh due to the widespread misconceptions about sex work and trafficking.Our findings contribute to the literature by offering new insights regarding previously underexplored challenges to social reintegration, highlighting significant gender differences in social stigmatization and systematic barriers like the scarcity of essential support services. Finally, the article puts forward actionable implications for social workers and policymakers in developing targeted interventions to foster survivors’ successful social reintegration in Bangladesh, ultimately contributing to achieving the UN SDGs, especially Goals 1 (No Poverty), 3 (Good Health and Well-being), 5 (Gender Equality), and 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). Since the economic boom in the Gulf region in the mid-1970s, it has been an attractive destination for Sri Lankan migrant workers seeking better opportunities. However, Gulf monarchies do not grant citizenship to these workers, making return and reintegration into Sri Lanka a crucial aspect of their migration journeys. While numerous studies have explored the economic aspects of the reintegration of returnees from the Gulf, there is a noticeable gap in the literature concerning the social aspects, particularly among returnees at the upper end of the skill spectrum. This study aims to fill this gap by examining the social dimensions of reintegration, which also impact economic reintegration, drawing on primary data from twenty-one in-depth interviews and a survey of 205 returnee migrants across the skill spectrum. The study's findings indicate that while most returnee high-skilled, skilled, and semi-skilled migrant workers find it relatively easy to readjust to life back in Sri Lanka with their family, friends, and relatives, some face hurdles in settling into new workplaces and reintegrating into the local work culture, which negatively affects their overall social reintegration experience. Furthermore, the study underscores the interconnectedness of economic and social reintegration, each influencing and sometimes exacerbating challenges in the other domain. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Klitih is a form of street violence committed by teenagers in Yogyakarta and is a serious concern. This research aims to analyze the application of restorative justice in the settlement of juvenile crime in klitih cases. The research approach used is normative juridical and empirical juridical, with primary data in the form of interviews and observations, as well as secondary data which includes legal documents and case reports. The results showed that the application of restorative justice can provide rehabilitation for the perpetrator and facilitate social reintegration, while restoring the victim's condition through the mediation and negotiation process. This process increases the offender's understanding of the impact of their actions, fosters responsibility, and builds empathy. However, the implementation of restorative justice faces obstacles, such as limited resources, community stigma towards offenders, and law enforcement skepticism towards the effectiveness of this method compared to the conventional punishment system. This research offers a new contribution by highlighting the unique sociocultural dynamics of Yogyakarta that influence the effectiveness of restorative justice in klitih cases. In addition, it provides policy recommendations, including community involvement in community-based programs and culturally sensitive training for facilitators. The conclusion of this study confirms that restorative justice has significant potential to effectively address juvenile delinquency, provided it is supported by training, adequate facilities, legal reforms, and strategies that are adaptive to the social and cultural context.

The search for ways to optimize social support for people leaving penitentiary units is an incentive to consider the institution of halfway houses, which successfully reduce return crime in other countries. The idea of transitional homes is also made real in the Polish legal and social order, which is sometimes signaled in the literature on the subject. The study concerns research on the concept of halfway houses expressed by Prison Service officers dealing with post-penitentiary assistance in prisons. It raises the issues of the location of halfway houses, procedures for qualifying and directing convicts to this type of institution, organization and functioning, as well as the impacts conducted in the halfway houses. The indicated issues relate to the need to evolve the Polish model of social readaptation of convicts, as well as to conduct research on the effectiveness of the process of implementing halfway houses and their effectiveness in Polish legal and social conditions.

ABSTRACT This study examines the challenges of social reintegration of men involved in the insurgency in the Southernmost provinces of Thailand. Social reintegration involves men taking up their family, economic, and cultural roles in their community. In Southern Thailand, the reintegration process is not adequately desecuritized as the notion of security held by the Thai Military and State clashes with the rights of former detainees accused of involvement in the armed conflict. The data was collected through multiple means, including interviews with 31 informants (comprising former detainees and their family members, authorities, and staff of non‐governmental organizations), alongside focus group discussions and a dialogue process. This study shows that social reintegration is complex to achieve when the State pursues a security‐centric approach that involves close monitoring and denial of rights of movement and work. The findings of this study illuminate the necessity for three paradigm shifts to improve the social reintegration of former detainees in Thailand's Southern Provinces. First, it urges a redefined threat perception, recognizing former detainees as citizens with rights rather than inherent security risks. Second, it advocates for a collaborative approach, integrating civilian oversight and local stakeholders to reduce tensions and build community trust. Finally, the study proposes adaptive securitization policies responsive to evolving conflict dynamics, allowing for gradual desecuritization as reintegration advances. This study uses the Q methodology to investigate the subjective perceptions of social reintegration among cancer survivors in their 20s and 30s. We organised a Q population through a pilot study and interviews and finalised 40 Q sample items. For P sample representativeness, we used purposive sampling and selected 12 individuals by age and cancer type. After a Q sorting process, we conducted a key factor analysis using Ken-Q Analysis Desktop Edition. We identified four types of P samples based on their perceptions and noted the main characteristics of each type. We characterised Type 1 as "recovery of presence through social reintegration seeking", Type 2 as "confusion in social reintegration due to social prejudices", Type 3 as "psychosocial support in the process of social reintegration", and Type 4 as "blessing in disguise for post-traumatic growth". The results suggest a need for practical and institutional support reflecting cancer survivors' characteristics by type. This study provides basic data that researchers could use to develop coaching and counselling services to support the social reintegration of cancer survivors in their 20s and 30s. Literature on recidivism and desistance has acquired increasing relevance in the criminological discussions of recent years. This study seeks to contribute to this discourse by implementing an instrumental variable analysis to examine inmates' expectations regarding the factors that play a central role in their perceptions of factors for successful social reintegration. Results indicate that education is perceived as a key factor, while the support of family and friends exerts a limited influence over incarcerated persons' perceptions of social reintegration possibilities in Mexico. Background: The purpose of the study was to identify whether the presence of a pre-injury psychiatric history, subacute post-concussive symptoms (PCS) and personality traits were predictive of less favorable social reintegration for 3 months following a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). Method: A total of 76 patients with mTBI were included, and the presence of a pre-injury psychiatric history was identified from the medical chart. One-month post-accident, these patients completed the Millon Multiaxial Clinical Inventory, 3rd Edition assessing personality traits and the Rivermead Post-Concussion Symptoms Questionnaire to measure subacute PCS. Social reintegration was measured using the Mayo-Portland Adaptability Inventory, 4th Edition at 3-month post-accident. Results: The presence of pre-injury psychiatric history, high levels of subacute PCS and Cluster B personality traits such as histrionic and borderline features were significant predictors of social reintegration quality at 3-month post injury. The social reintegration of terrorism-related convicts in Europe is a pressing issue. Public opinion can play an essential role in this by making it easier or more difficult to implement (and succeed with) social reintegration strategies. Considering the media's influence on shaping public opinions, attitudes, and social representations, the present research offers a case study by reviewing a decade (2011–2022) of media coverage of the social reintegration of terrorism-related convicts in the seven most read national daily newspapers in France. Results reveal that the topic is very little covered, with 395 newspaper articles published over a decade, and mostly discussing deradicalization, specifically, rather than social reintegration at large. Cluster analysis via Reinert's method reveals that when the topic is discussed it revolves around political and security management (political discourse and security measures), target population (radical Muslims and returnees), and tertiary prevention programs (programs in prison and open settings). A time series analysis of clusters shows their chronological evolution. These findings and their implications for generating (mis)trust in the social reintegration of terrorism-related convicts amongst the general public are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study looks at post-detention migration and focuses on the reasons, challenges and solutions for preventing recidivism and ensuring reintegration into society. This research involves an analysis of the factors influencing the intention to emigrate of criminally sanctioned persons in Romania, the differences between the types of crimes and their impact on the desire to leave the country, as well as the causes of external migration, such as unattractive jobs and inadequate income at the level of the family of origin. The results show that people who have committed crimes against a person are more inclined to emigrate compared to those who have committed crimes against property. Unattractive jobs and insufficient income are also significant factors contributing to the decision to emigrate. This study proposes solutions to facilitate the reintegration of these people into Romanian society and reduce recidivism rates. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: Therapeutic group interventions are commonly provided in acquired brain injury (ABI) inpatient rehabilitation settings, but little is known about the extent of therapeutic groups run for community-dwellers with ABI. This paper seeks to review current literature concerning the nature of therapeutic groups run for community-dwellers with ABI and the involvement of occupational therapists. Materials & Methods: A scoping review was conducted with systematic searching of relevant databases guided by Arksey and O'Malley's framework. Studies were included if they reported on therapeutic groups for community-dwellers with ABI. Articles were collated and summarised with key findings presented in narrative form with accompanying tables. Results: Seventy articles met inclusion. Groups are used as therapeutic change agents for community-dwellers with ABI and target a diverse range of participation barriers. Participants valued group programs that established safe environments, a sense of belonging, growth opportunities and social connections. Group accessibility needs to be improved, with better funding avenues available for service providers, as well as greater consumer involvement in group design and facilitation. Conclusions: Groups are a valuable therapeutic modality supporting community-dwellers with ABI. Further research is warranted into the use of groups by occupational therapists working with community-dwellers with ABI. IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION: Therapeutic groups can support the development of social connections, community participation and help community-dwellers with ABI re-establish a positive self-identity. Conducting groups in community settings and involving consumers in group design and facilitation may enhance the group experience for participants. The objective of this article is to analyze the social and symbolic resources that intra-prison Pentecostalism provides to converted inmates for their intra- and then extra-prison community reintegration. To conduct this analysis, we present two sections. Firstly, we present a characterization of two prison spaces between 1950 and 1970: the Public Prison and the Santiago Penitentiary, both located in the city of Santiago de Chile. In them, Pentecostal communities developed and adjusted to the prison contexts with different proposals. Secondly, we see religious work as an organizer of meaning based on the three most important religious rituals of prison spaces: the invocation ritual, which is prayer as sacred work; music, which is sung work; and preaching, which is the work that makes the community grow. The theoretical framework we employ is that of structuralism, to adapt to the era explored in this article, complemented by the phenomenological proposal of René Girard. Methodologically, this study is a qualitative vision focused on the autobiography of a religious leader, to which two autobiographical novels of the time are added, in addition to institutional magazines (Pentecostal) and a magazine of journalistic reportage, to contextualize the information provided by the autobiography. Drug use is considered a problem in today's society. Most people come to use drugs out of a desire to try something new, others out of curiosity, but the most common causes of drug use are family problems and the desire to belong to a particular group. The integrated programme of assistance for substance users is expressed through a varied system of therapeutic, social and psychological programmes, which materialize in an individualized plan of assistance for their reintegration. The methods used to carry out the research were a sociological survey based on an interview guide and an opinion survey which were administered to drug users. The aim of this research is to identify the perception of drug users regarding the causes that led them to consume illicit substances and the importance of family support, as well as the way in which specialists get involved and act for the social reintegration of drug users. Drug use is a growing phenomenon, which without the intervention and support of specialists will have negative repercussions both on the population, but especially on the people who use drugs. Abstract Background Social reintegration relies on the support given to prisoners not only during their reentry into society but also throughout their imprisonment. Our goal was to analyze the expectations reported by cisgender and transgender women returning to society and of the justice and social welfare professionals from the Brazilian prison system. Methods A qualitative analysis using saturation sampling was conducted. The participants were selected through a non-probabilistic sampling technique. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews with professionals involved in the management of the prison system and female former inmates. Interviews were transcribed and analyzed using an open and focused coding process. Textual data was stored, organized, and coded using Atlas software according to emerging themes. Results The study involved 15 professionals and 13 female former inmates, five of them identified as transgender women. Among the professionals, the age range went from 38 to 65 years old; they reported a work history in their respective fields, from 10 to 35 years, with an equal distribution across genders. As for the female former inmates, their ages ranged from 24 to 42 years old, and the most reported crime was drug trafficking. Their incarceration time varied from 1 to 8 years. Female inmates were vulnerable to abuse and violence, including physical, sexual, and emotional violence. Women in situations of prior vulnerability faced additional challenges during their sentences. Transgender women were even more neglected and discriminated against by the system. Despite the professionals being aware and concerned about vulnerabilities and the need to improve the reintegration process, in general, they were not sensitive to the gender perspective. There were no specific policies able to support social integration for this public. Conclusions Data showed multifaceted challenges faced by female former inmates within the Brazilian prison system, highlighting the insufficient policies for both cisgender and transgender women. Additionally, the results revealed a lack of sensitivity among professionals regarding gender issues and their particularities in the prison system and social reintegration. These findings emphasize the need for a more comprehensive and intersectional approach that addresses the diverse socio-economic backgrounds of these individuals.

Work preservation is crucial for the reintegration of ex-prisoners and the prevention of recidivism. We describe the application of an interdisciplinary diagnostic protocol (occupational health visit, psychiatric interview, psychological counselling and testing) in the case of a dairy industry worker (female, 45-year-old), released on half-freedom after approximately a year of detention in prison for attempted murder. This crime can seriously hamper job resumption. The evaluation revealed a slightly depressed mood (consistent with recent life events), in the absence of major psychiatric disorders or other disturbances that could compromise working abilities or represent a danger for the coworkers. The patient was, therefore, judged able to resume her job. At six months follow-up, she had fully served her sentence and had returned to her previous job, with good relations with her colleagues. However, she encountered hostility from her employer, which induced her to find a new job as a secretary. Her mental health status was improved. The interdisciplinary approach described here may allow ex-prisoners to return to work by helping the company physician to formulate the judgement of job fitness, offering at the same time suggestions for a rational occupational reintegration. Although kidnapping and banditry are increasingly rampant in northern Nigeria, research on their psychological impact on female undergraduate students is lacking. To fill this gap, this study investigated the psychological impact of kidnapping on female undergraduate students in Zamfara State, Nigeria, focusing on their social reintegration and academic pursuits. Kidnapping and banditry have become pervasive in northern Nigeria, severely disrupting the lives of vulnerable communities including students in both pre-tertiary and tertiary institutions, particularly Zamfara State. The study adopted qualitative research design. Seven out of the female undergraduates of Federal University Gusau who had recently been released after prolonged captivity participated in the study. A combination of purposive and snowball sampling techniques was used to select participants based on availability, willingness, and ability to provide detailed accounts. Data was collected through structured interview. Thematic analysis revealed profound psychological trauma, including symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety, and depression. Social reintegration challenges found in the study include stigmatization and alienation, while academic difficulties involved concentration, memory issues, and decreased motivation. The study recommends implementing comprehensive psychological support programmes within educational institutions located in high risk locations such as Zamfara State, including professional counseling and peer support groups, to address the long-term psychological effects and facilitate better social and academic reintegration of the victims

The current criminal code has been in force in Indonesia since 1918. Indonesia formulated criminal law reform in 1963 and in 2023, a law on the national criminal code was issued. The spirit of the Indonesian criminal code is reformative, progressive, and responsive to changes to the law. One of the strengths of criminal law is regulating criminal law from the perspective and achievement of justice to repair and restore the situation after the event and judicial process known as restorative justice. The desire to strengthen restorative justice programs takes a long time and is complicated. This research aims to analyze the development of the concept of social reintegration through the application of restorative justice in the criminal justice process. This research was conducted qualitatively using secondary data and doctrinal legal study methods. The results showed that changes in criminal law arrangements caused opinion differences since restorative programs are widely used as a substitute for traditional and retributive approaches. The application of restorative justice in national criminal law must be implemented. Social reintegration in the implementation of restorative justice as regulated in the Criminal Code can be successful through commitment and collaboration between the community, government and law enforcement officials

This article analyzes the institutional approaches in two European states (Norway and Romania) regarding to the social reintegration of inmates. The analysis of public policies and potential of the two prison systems, as well as the results obtained following the implementation of the two systemic approaches, are the main objectives of the study. Also, the study highlights the collaboration between the two European states, the logistical and financial support and the example of good practice that the Norwegian state offered to Romania, in order to streamline the process of social reintegration.

Convicted terrorists released from prison often experience social stigma, exclusion, and difficulties reintegrating into society. Authorities have identified the utility of using formerly convicted and released terrorists or disengaged terrorists as an intermediary to help and support terrorist inmates as they go through social reintegration processes. This article explores their role as an intermediary who advocates for fair treatment and rights for their fellow ex-inmates, assisting families and helping them undergo the reintegration process. This research involved interviews with members of three foundations: Yayasan Persadani, Hubbul Wathon Indonesia 19, and DeBintal. By analysing the narrative of the participants, this study found that social reintegration efforts led by disengaged terrorists fostered a sense of social belonging and connectedness among ex-inmates. In addition, these foundations offer valuable assistance to terrorist inmates while ensuring community safety. They serve as a reliable support system during times of need and act as a communication bridge between them and the government. This framework positions these foundations as integral components in addressing concerns about the effectiveness of government-led integration initiatives. The approach adopted by these foundations has positive effects on preventing the re-engagement of released inmates with extremist networks. Despite the need to measure the effectiveness of these initiatives comprehensively, efforts made by these foundations provide potential for societal resilience against terrorism. The study has been developed under the quantitative approach; On the one hand, it explains whether there is an influence of restorative justice on social reintegration and on the other hand, it seeks to include the Academy in the restorative processes within the framework of the observational explanatory design, using the deductive method, the survey technique with causal questions, and as an instrument the scale by the application of Likert ranges, after validation of content and reliability for which experts and Cronbach's alpha were used respectively. Likewise, under the qualitative approach, the interview technique was used, after validation of the content of the questions, and the answers were analyzed and interpreted taking into account the statistical information and the corresponding regulations. The quantitative results indicate that there is an influence of restorative juvenile justice on social reintegration, since the p-value obtained was 0.000 (Somers' D). This study investigated the experiences of ex-offenders and the perceptions of society regarding their reintegration. A descriptive-correlational design was employed in the study, which took place in Abuyog, Leyte, Regional VIII (Eastern Visayas). The study revealed that most ex-offenders were male, with differing age ranges and educational backgrounds. A significant portion of ex-offenders had been involved in illegal drug trade, murder, or homicide. The majority of ex-offenders served sentences ranging from 1 to 10 years and had a middle socio-economic status, with a significant percentage lacking permanent employment. The study examined social support provided to ex-offenders, revealing a high prevalence of rehabilitation programs and parole and probation officer monitoring, but lower rates of other forms like re-entry programs, legal aid, mentoring, vocational training, and housing assistance. Ex-offenders faced numerous challenges in reintegration, including humiliation, rejection, isolation, and difficulties in family, friendship, and romantic relationships. Disclosure of their criminal history also led to employer rejection. Society's perceptions of ex-offenders reintegration were mixed, with stakeholders expressing both support and skepticism. Barriers included community hesitance, but opinions among ex-offenders differed on other identified barriers. Age and personal association with ex-offenders significantly influenced stakeholders' perceptions, while other demographic factors did not. These findings contribute to a better understanding of the complexities surrounding exoffenders' reintegration. They emphasize the need for comprehensive support systems and interventions to address challenges and promote successful reintegration. This article analyzes the institutional approaches in two European states (Norway and Romania) regarding to the social reintegration of inmates. The analysis of public policies and potential of the two prison systems, as well as the results obtained following the implementation of the two systemic approaches, are the main objectives of the study. Also, the study highlights the collaboration between the two European states, the logistical and financial support and the example of good practice that the Norwegian state offered to Romania, in order to streamline the process of social reintegration. In this review article, the latest knowledge in the area of the importance of employment in the process of rehabilitation is presented. The goal is a literature review and an analysis of the similarities and differences between female and male criminals in the context of employment during the prison sentence and the chances of finding employment after release. Also, the relationships between employment and later recidivism are analyzed. To present the relationship between employment and recidivism holistically, the following points were referred to: the role of work in rehabilitation and adaptation to freedom; differences between males and females in employment experiences and peculiarities in social background affecting their labour force attachment; the employment of prisoners before, during and after punishment; opportunities and barriers in finding a job by former prisoners; bidirectional relationship – employment as a way to reintegrate ex-offender with the society and as a way to prevent recidivism. Different phases of rehabilitation (being in prison, leaving prison) were distinguished and labour force attachment prior to imprisonment spell were also discussed. Also, the article consists of a discussion section where conclusions and recommendations are presented. The indications for further research were also listed, one of which is to examine the real benefit of the work of convicts – whether it provides the possibility of subsistence. In the article, study results from various countries, and consequently, various judicial systems, are referred to.

This study looks at post-detention migration and focuses on the reasons, challenges and solutions for preventing recidivism and ensuring reintegration into society. This research involves an analysis of the factors influencing the intention to emigrate of criminally sanctioned persons in Romania, the differences between the types of crimes and their impact on the desire to leave the country, as well as the causes of external migration, such as unattractive jobs and inadequate income at the level of the family of origin. The results show that people who have committed crimes against a person are more inclined to emigrate compared to those who have committed crimes against property. Unattractive jobs and insufficient income are also significant factors contributing to the decision to emigrate. This study proposes solutions to facilitate the reintegration of these people into Romanian society and reduce recidivism rates.

Following the conflict that prevailed from 1976 to 2005, a state of social disintegration persisted between former combatants of the Gerakan Aceh Merdeka - GAM (Free Aceh Movement) and the civil society in Aceh. This disintegration was typically fueled by the former GAM combatants’ militaristic and pragmatic mindsets, instability, and low economic well-being. Interestingly, former GAM combatants in Nisam Antara Subdistrict, North Aceh Regency, have managed to collaborate and coexist with local communities, exemplifying successful social reintegration that distinguishes them from their counterparts in other regions of Aceh. This article delves into the reality of social reintegration between former GAM combatants and the local populace, with a specific focus on the oil palm plantations managed by former GAM combatants. The study adopts a descriptive qualitative approach, and data was gathered through a combination of observations, in-depth interviews, document analyses, and focus group discussions. Key informants for this study included former GAM combatants, community and traditional leaders, plantation workers, and members of civil society. The study reveals that moral obligations within communities are guided by local wisdom, which acts as a form of social capital that fosters economic and social collaborations. Local wisdom serves as a social capital that nurtures the development of fraternity, mutual trust, cooperation, and solidarity. Moreover, it has the capacity to minimize differences and resentments, thereby promoting unity between former GAM combatants and local communities. This unity significantly contributes to the sustainability of peace in Aceh, Indonesia.

Convicted terrorists released from prison often experience social stigma, exclusion, and difficulties reintegrating into society. Authorities have identified the utility of using formerly convicted and released terrorists or disengaged terrorists as an intermediary to help and support terrorist inmates as they go through social reintegration processes. This article explores their role as an intermediary who advocates for fair treatment and rights for their fellow ex-inmates, assisting families and helping them undergo the reintegration process. This research involved interviews with members of three foundations: Yayasan Persadani, Hubbul Wathon Indonesia 19, and DeBintal. By analysing the narrative of the participants, this study found that social reintegration efforts led by disengaged terrorists fostered a sense of social belonging and connectedness among ex-inmates. In addition, these foundations offer valuable assistance to terrorist inmates while ensuring community safety. They serve as a reliable support system during times of need and act as a communication bridge between them and the government. This framework positions these foundations as integral components in addressing concerns about the effectiveness of government-led integration initiatives. The approach adopted by these foundations has positive effects on preventing the re-engagement of released inmates with extremist networks. Despite the need to measure the effectiveness of these initiatives comprehensively, efforts made by these foundations provide potential for societal resilience against terrorism.

A growing body of research has explored the contribution of prison art interventions indicating that these hold substantial rehabilitative value. Recent literature in this area has drawn attention to the need to expand social action and community-enhanced art interventions with the aim of aiding incarcerated individuals to reconnect to the community. The following research focused on a unique artist-led prison intervention model, wherein participants who are currently imprisoned create alongside participants who are art students from the local university. This joint space aimed to connect people by providing opportunities to engage with creativity in ways that are both individually and socially transformative. Through a phenomenological approach, this model was explored, aiming to yield relevant insights into the quality and processes of change it enhanced. Semistructured interviews were conducted with 18 participants involved in the workshop, and data were analyzed aiming to establish an insider's conceptualization of the meaning for them of the art group experience. The findings point to participants' experience of the workshop as a unique space in which barriers and stigmatic preconceptions were broken and where a sense of acceptance, belonging, and bonding developed in a nonjudgmental atmosphere of joint creativity. Understandings of the way these essential elements of the joint creative experience served to promote implicit processes toward growth and positive trajectories of change are discussed in light of the broaden-and-build and polyvagal theories. Victims of trafficking in persons are understood as Victims of crime are persons who have suffered personal or collective harm, including physical or mental injury, mental suffering, financial loss, or substantial damage to their basic rights, as a result of acts or omissions that violate applicable criminal laws and laws. That prevents criminal abuse of power. Victims of human rights crimes, namely the right to obtain restitution, medical rehabilitation, social rehabilitation, social reintegration, and refoulment. This study uses normative legal research methods with a research approach, namely the statutory approach and the legal concept analysis approach. As well as the data analysis technique used is a qualitative descriptive analysis technique. the result of the social reintegration of victims of trafficking in persons as a process of reuniting victims with their families or communities includes physical, psychological and rehabilitation protection and ensures that the reintegration process of applicable social norms can be understood by victims who wish to return to their hometowns. In the Indonesian context, especially the Social Service in Malang, victims must also ensure that they have identity cards, family cards, and other supporting data as tools for identification and a complete assessment of human trafficking victims. However, considering that human trafficking victims are vulnerable, especially in population data and administration, other identification options are needed to make integrating human trafficking victims easier. The research addressed challenges and prescriptions for reintegration of homeless people who use drugs. Data were collected through conducting semi-structured interviews. Twenty-nine participants were recruited. The primary codes were extracted and divided into two main categories of challenges and prescriptions; the former included becoming homeless after a long term recovery, workplace stigma, service users' different cultural backgrounds, dismissing the 12-Step Program, message fatigue, negative effect of relapse on groups and cyberspace overuse; and the latter included connection by hook or by crook, abstinence-harm reduction orientation, organizational service collection, pushing boundaries of interventions, and expanding services umbrella. This paper will develop what is understood by the right to education and how it is specifically regulated in the contexts of confinement, taking into account how the educational stimulus regulated in article 140 of Law 24.660 operates and its importance in the process of social reintegration of inmates. A comparison will be made between what is sanctioned by the National Education Law and the international human rights instruments with constitutional hierarchy that support this right and what actually happens in the penitentiary system. Likewise, an analysis will be made of Argentine jurisprudence that recognizes the right to education of persons deprived of liberty and its importance for the system of progressiveness regulated by the law of penal execution. On the other hand, an analysis will be made of how, in practice, the reduction regulated by article 140 has lost its virtuality due to the introduction of a group of offenses that are not eligible for the liberatory institutes through Law 27.375. The main objective lies in the need to emphasize that education in prison contexts is essential for social reintegration and that the State has the obligation to guarantee this right. This paper explores community perceptions about traditional authorities' roles during the disarmament, demobilisation and reintegration (DDR) of former combatants. We have selected the case of Somalia, where both government institutions and traditional authorities have partnered with international actors and institutions, as well as non-governmental organisations (NGOs), to prevent and counter violent extremism (P/CVE). International actors have related to traditional authorities based on the assumption that these actors wield a kind of social power that facilitates the reintegration of former members of the violent extremist organisation al-Shabaab. Based on mixed methodology research we explain social reintegration in Somalia from the community perspective, and find that P/CVE programmes are expressive of co-optation of traditional authorities. We make the case that 'risk coping' helps explain why a majority of civilians prefer the government-led formal reintegration pathway of ex-combatants to the traditional authorities pathway. Abstract Background Prison sentences are a particular type of penalty that aim to reintegrate individuals into society. Nonetheless, research suggests that prison sentences have a null or a criminogenic effect on recidivism and a critical impact on inmates’ mental health, negatively interfering with their successful reintegration into society and recidivism. Prevalence rates of mental health disorders among individuals who commit crimes are high, but little is known about how incarceration perpetuates and/or worsens mental health symptoms. In the Portuguese context, no studies focused on understanding the impact of imprisonment on prisoners’ mental health. Thus, this project aims to understand incarceration’s mental health and well-being impact on male and female individuals convicted to prison, both while incarcerated and after release. Methods The study will follow a quantitative cross-sectional design of male and female individuals in prison and parole, aiming to assess different samples at different moments of the prison sentence. It will also follow a longitudinal design in a subsample of male and female individuals sentenced to prison and on parole who will be followed for one year. Discussion This study intends to have a meaningful impact on the understanding of imprisonment effects, giving important clues for developing and implementing evidence-based prevention and intervention strategies to address prisoners’ and ex-prisoners’ mental health and improve their ability to successfully reintegrate into society and reduce recidivism.

The objective of this work is to develop a diagnostic process to determine the current state of literary education in the context of distance education for persons deprived of liberty (PPL hereinafter) at the Catholic University of Santiago de Guayaquil. The students who are part of the project aspire to social reintegration, to study a university career, and to improve in particular their reading comprehension and, consequently, their literary education. The research was carried out through surveys and interviews with students, the recommendations of teachers and directors who are related to the training process, with the possibility of being actively involved in the project. Results are expressed on the recognition of the PPL with potentialities to develop the training process, the level of presence as a tool for the university training of the PPL and the recognition of distance education as a fundamental tool for university training. Objectives. This pilot study aimed to explore the personality of young people convicted of violent crimes, in relation to a series of variables, such as: family characteristics, the criminogenic potential of the group of friends, the situations of conflict and support experienced by them as a result of interaction with colleagues and employees in the educational center. Material and methods. The sample was made up of 21 boys interned in Buziaș and Târgu Ocna educational centers. The data collection was carried out by the survey method based on questionnaires. For this study, the responses to the 5-Factor Personality Questionnaire were retained. The data analysis was carried out through Little’s MCAR test, Chi-Square, T-test, Hedges’ g index. Results. Depending on the relationship with the primary caregivers, differences were identified in terms of the variables investigating the level of conscientiousness, amiability and desirability. At the level of the variable investigating autonomy, differences were recorded depending on the criminogenic potential of the group of friends. Regarding the period of deprivation of liberty, participants who came into conflict with colleagues in the educational center showed a lower level of desirability, and those who reported conflicts with employees scored higher for extraversion. At the same time, those who reported moral support from the cadres scored higher on the amiability and desirability scales. Conclusions. The social reintegration steps in the educational centers targeting young people who have committed violent crimes can be adapted depending on the particularities of the family, the group of friends and the young person’s relationship with colleagues and employees in the center. The partnership between the staff of the educational centres and the adults with whom the young internees have a close relationship becomes essential.

Childhood cancer survival is increasing in low- and middle-income countries like Kenya, which comes with a new healthcare challenge: late effects and quality-of-life of survivors. A case was studied to depict a Kenyan Hodgkin lymphoma survivor, illustrating some of the childhood cancer survivors' difficulties in Kenya. Late effects of therapy, stigmatization and social reintegration were explored. The investigators reviewed medical records and used semi-structured interviews and stigma assessments using the Social Impact Scale. The survivor developed severe pulmonary hypertension during treatment with ABVD and salvage protocols. Three years after treatment, the patient experienced chemotherapy-induced late effects (chronic heart disease) that hindered personal care, social activities and job opportunities and required follow-up. Stigmatization by the community burdened his family life and marital prospects. This case report is one of the first that testifies of combined medical and psychosocial challenges that childhood cancer survivors may face in sub-Saharan Africa and underlines the need for a holistic approach.

With the purpose of ending wars, international organizations and governments promote reintegration projects that seek to transform combatants affiliated with illegal armed groups into citizens through education. The assumption behind these efforts is that through education, ex-combatants will become economically independent, overcome marginalization, experience personal transformations, and integrate into communities. This paper questions this optimistic narrative of education by highlighting the differentiated meanings of education for ex-combatants reintegrating in urban Colombia. Listening to the voices of ex-combatants who have engaged in technical and vocational education programs, this paper compares policy narratives with ex-combatants' narratives regarding the role of education in the reintegration process. The analysis reveals how for ex-combatants, education is a complex social practice that redistributes resources and contributes to positive psychosocial and empowerment transformations. At the same time, it is a process of insertion into an individualistic system and adaptation to unequal participation within the country's socio-economic hierarchy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
