Abstract

The relevance of the work is due to the need for experimental studies to determine the mechanical characteristics of epoxy resin samples, which can be used to check the correctness of the choice of parameters and criteria for the onset of crack growth within the framework of elastic fracture mechanics, cohesive models, models such as virtual crack closure technique, extended finite element method, etc. Thus, the article is aimed at determining the parameters of fracture toughness of samples of brittle epoxy resin with applied eccentric cracks. The leading method for the study of this problem is the experimental method, which makes it possible to determine the critical stress intensity factor for three-point bending of samples with an edge crack, as well as to study samples with an eccentric (relative to the center of the sample) location of cracks. The paper presents the results of experimental studies to determine the critical stress intensity factors for samples of brittle epoxy resin L285 with hardener H 285 (Hexion), obtained without the addition of a plasticizer. The results of testing samples with asymmetric cracks are compared with the results of numerical modeling within the framework of elastic fracture mechanics with the energy fracture criterion. The materials of the article are of practical value, first of all, for the calibration of fracture mechanics models.

Abstract

Indirect Trefftz method is proposed for solving two‐dimensional boundary value problems of the strain gradient elasticity theory (SGET). A system of trial functions satisfying the fourth‐order equilibrium equations of SGET are developed based on the generalized Papkovich‐Neuber potentials. The classical part of the displacement solution is represented through the T‐complete system of functions satisfying the Laplace equation. The gradient part of the solution is represented through the system of heuristic functions satisfying the Helmholtz equation. The least squares collocation method is used to enforce the boundary conditions. Numerical examples are presented for the square domain under non‐uniform tensile and bending loads. It is shown, that the advantage of the presented method is that it allows to directly control the accuracy of the fulfillment of all nonstandard boundary conditions, that are prescribed in SGET on the surfaces and edges of the body. 17. Binder Jetting of Si3N4 Ceramics with Different Porosity

Abstract

This article presents the results of the binder jetting technology application for the silicon nitride ceramics production. A modified version of the Plan-B 3D printer with an epoxy-based binder was used for silicon green bodies preforming. Silicon powder was pre-coated with epoxy resin, and the curing agent was added during 3-D printing of green bodies using a standard cartridge. Curing and removal of organics was carried out during the high-temperature vacuum drying of the printed preforms. Reaction-bonded silicon nitride was obtained by using pressureless sintering. An additional compaction of green bodies is proposed to reduce the porosity of green bodies and sintered ceramics. It is shown that the proposed methods allows to improve the mechanical properties of sintered specimens.
