This article provides a description of a qualitative study of supervisees' experiences of supervision in the Professional Academic Response Model (PARM) program, a supervision intervention/program designed for school counselors. Themes from individual interviews included: (a) the supervisee's relationship with the supervisor, (b) the supervisee's relationship with the student, (c) the supervisee's professional role as a school counselor and (d) the supervisee's professional identity as a school counselor. These findings underscore the need for additional research in the field that specifically addresses school counselor supervision. (Contains 1 figure.)

School counselors acknowledge the need for supervision but rarely receive it. This article describes the counselor performance improvement system in one school district. Supervision is embedded in a process that assesses counselors' levels of professionalism on a matrix of competence and commitment. Administrative and clinical supervisors determine which of four quadrants from the matrix best describes an individual counselor's current performance, and they tailor their responses accordingly. Examples of counselors in each of the categories are provided. (Contains 3 figures.)

This article provides a brief review of the literature describing successful aging life tasks, such as reminiscence, meaning-making, and forming substantive connections. Using Relational-Cultural Theory as a base, the article addresses the need for connection and ways that connections can be developed and sustained in later life. Through a personal account, the authors also illustrate how grown children can use music to connect with their parents. Finally, the authors adapt "A Musical Chronology and the Emerging Life Song," an intervention that uses music and memories, for use with older adults.

Research has found that school-based interventions for children of divorce help counter the adverse effects. Studies of school-based interventions have identified effective means for helping children of divorce cope with their situation and produce a significant reduction in clinical symptoms. Those components include activities that: (a) help children identify and express common feelings associated with conflictual divorce and custody issues; (b) teach coping skills; (c) provide peer support, helping to normalize their experiences; (d) foster parent-child communication; (e) develop realistic perceptions of things they can and can't control; and (f) enhance their understanding of divorce. The creative intervention described in this article incorporates those components into a small group counseling program utilizing child-made paper bag books. The child-made bag book served as a catalyst for communication between child and parents. This helped empower the children to express their inner-most feelings and connect in a more authentic manner with their parents. This authenticity helped parents recognize the need to work together to protect the children from the harmful effects of their divorce and custody battle. (Contains 7 photos.)

The article focuses on the activity of making paper bag books as a creative intervention for elementary school children experiencing high-conflict parental divorce. Research shows that school-based interventions for children can help counter the adverse effects of divorce. It states that the paper bag book activity aims to offer a compassionate environment for meaningful connections and perceived commonality among students with similar traumatic experiences. Furthermore, the child-made paper bag books can help empower the child to express his or her innermost feelings.
