Abstract

The shifted frequency-based electromagnetic transient (SFEMT) simulation has greatly improved the computational efficiency of traditional electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation for the ac grid. This letter proposes a novel interface for the co-simulation of the SFEMT model and the traditional EMT model. The general form of SFEMT modeling and the principle of analytical signal construction are first derived. Then, an interface for the co-simulation of EMT and SFEMT simulation is proposed based on rotational invariance techniques. Theoretical analyses and test results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract

With the large-scale hybrid AC-DC grids coming into being, electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulation is required to accurately describe the dynamics of systems. However, the EMT steady-state initialization for hybrid AC-DC system is difficult and time-consuming when the system scale is huge. In order to provide a stable snapshot for EMT simulation with nonlinear components and black-box components, this paper proposes a general initialization scheme for EMT simulation (EMT-GIS) which can be implemented in the electromagnetic transient program (EMTP)-type simulators. First, an integrated power flow (IPF) algorithm is introduced to provide the steady-state results. Then, an initialized snapshot calculation-and-splicing mechanism is designed for EMT-GIS. The proposed EMT-GIS is tested using a hybrid AC-DC system in China on the CloudPSS simulation platform. Test results verify the effectiveness of the proposed EMT-GIS.

Abstract

With the complex hybrid AC-DC power system in China coming into being, the HVDC faults, such as DC block faults, have an enormous effect on the frequency stability of the AC side. In multi-infeed HVDC (MIDC) system, to improve the frequency stability of the receiving-end system, this paper proposes an emergency DC power support (EDCPS) strategy, which is based on a designed droop characteristic between the active power of LCC-HVDC lines and the receiving-end system frequency. Then, a coordinated optimization method is proposed to determine the droop coefficients of the MIDC lines. To test the proposed EDCPS method, the electromagnetic transient (EMT) model of a MIDC system is built on the CloudPSS platform, and the test results verify the effectiveness of the proposed EDCPS strategy., Comment: 5 pages, 11 figures

7. CloudPSS: A High-Performance Power System Simulator Based on Cloud Computing

Abstract

With the increasing computations in power system simulations, high-performance and cost-effective power system simulator is highly required. In this paper, a cloud-computing based power system simulator, namely CloudPSS, is designed. Based on an open service integrating framework, a self-developed electromagnetic transients (EMT) simulator with an automatic code generator is provided to accelerate EMT simulations using heterogeneous devices in the cloud, such as CPU and GPU. Test results show that CloudPSS can achieve significant speedups for both large-scale simulation tasks and multi-scenario tasks. Moreover, benefit from the time-sharing of cloud computing resources, the computational cost can be greatly reduced.

Abstract

Electromagnetic transient programs (EMTPs) are widely used for simulating electromagnetic transient in power systems. With the increasing interest in integrated energy system (IES), it would be beneficial to extend the scope of EMTP‐type application to multi‐physics transients in integrated electrical and gas networks. An efficient and accurate model of gas pipeline is proposed in EMTP for the simulation of pneumatic transients. The pipeline is split into a number of segments using spatial discretization. Analogies between pneumatic and electric quantities, such as flow and pressure, current, and voltage, are used to create a circuit representation of pipe segment. The pipeline is represented by a distributed‐element model. In order to enhance the computational efficiency, the nodal equation for pipeline model is reformulated. The pipeline model appears as a two‐port Norton equivalent with constant admittances. Case studies are performed to demonstrate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed pipeline model. The implementation of the proposed pipeline model in the EMTP‐type program power systems computer aided design (PSCAD) enables the analysis of diverse transients in integrated electrical and gas systems (IEGSs). Abstract

Power systems are becoming more and more complicated. Traditional simulation tools such as transient stability programs and electromagnetic transients (EMT) programs are unable to meet the accuracy or efficiency requirements. This paper proposes a shifted frequency‐based EMT (SFEMT) simulation in the symmetrical component‐domain (abbreviated as SCSFEMT simulation) for the three‐phase transmission system. The sequence‐decoupled SCSFEMT modeling for the power system components is first presented based on the symmetrical component transformation. Then, the solution procedure of the presented SCSFEMT simulation algorithm is elaborated in detail based on the EMTP‐type solution and multi‐sequence Thevenin equivalence (MSTE). With the MSTE, the three sequence networks can be decoupled during the whole simulation. Thus, the dimension of the system is greatly reduced. Last, the accuracy and efficiency of the SCSFEMT simulation are validated on the 10‐machine 39‐bus New England system by comparing it with traditional EMT and SFEMT simulation. Test results show that the SCSFEMT simulation algorithm is much more efficient than traditional SFEMT simulation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

33. Accuracy Enhancement of Shifted Frequency-Based Simulation Using Root Matching and Embedded Small-Step

Abstract

Electromagnetic transients (EMT) simulation is fundamental in power system design and operation. To improve the computational efficiency of EMT simulation, the shifted frequency-based EMT (SFEMT) simulation with large time-steps has been proposed in the literature recently. Nevertheless, the existing SFEMT simulation methods with a large time-step have accuracy issues when there is a sudden change in the power system. In this paper, the causes of the poor accuracy of traditional SFEMT simulation in sudden-change scenarios are first analyzed. Then, it proposes a highly accurate SFEMT simulation algorithm based on the root matching (RM) and embedded small-step (ESS) techniques. Next, the RM-based SFEMT (RM-SFEMT) models of the power system components are derived and the flowchart of RM-SFEMT simulation with ESS is presented. Test results on three power systems of different scales demonstrate the improved accuracy of the proposed SFEMT simulation algorithm.

Abstract

Digital twin technology provides dynamic planning, operation optimization and other complex business applications for multi-energy system based on high-performance simulation computing. As it involves the scheduling and management of massive simulation computing tasks, how to assign simulation computing tasks to computing servers in a balanced manner and minimize the completion time of all tasks are the key to scheduling. Analyzed and discussed the existing problems of task scheduling algorithms, based on this, combined with the characteristics of simulation computing tasks, this paper proposes a dynamic scheduling management method for multi-energy system digital twin simulation computing tasks. Taking into account the characteristics of stable computing completion time for simulation computing tasks, a comprehensive priority index is designed to quantify the execution sequence of simulation computing tasks, then based on this comprehensive priority index, a task assignment mechanism as the goal of minimizing computing completion time of application is proposed. Illustrate the rationality and efficiency of this scheduling management method for simulation computing tasks through a specific case.
